My, and I Mean MY Illicit Affair....

You never know what's going to happen in a day. And today, my Boss left for the Holiday, and I had most of the day off. So I went to Breakfast. Went for a long ride. Went to lunch. Came back to the stables and bought a Horse of my Own.

These things happen.

I hadn't PLANNED on that. I lease a horse, and that had always seemed fine to me. Why bother buying one? But then, this Illicit Affair came along. I wrote about him a while back. There is something really special about him. I don't know. Horses were horses before.

He talked to me. I fell in love.

My trainer Melissa owned him. She knew how I felt about him. She knew (As I didn't) how much I really needed my own horse. She saw us together. She listened to me go on about him, his potential, his love. She laughed when I came up with him today, instead of my lease horse Anna Montana, just to hang with him and brush him and make him pretty. Melissa KNEW he was my horse. (I've known her over 10 years now and I think she has been biding her time, she knew it would happen)

I've been wanting my own horse since I was four. Badly. Didn't think I would ever have one. Melissa and I talked. Talked about expenses, board, what happens if I start to ride him in a month or so, and we don't work together, what happens six months from now if it doesn't work for me, owning my own horse.

It works. I still think of it as a joint venture, between me, her and Illicit Affair. Couldn't do it without her, when I say she has made me VERY HAPPY that does not beging to cover it.

His back was hurt some months ago, but is better now. He is still underweight, and needs training and work. He's only four. Pure Arab too. I won't be riding him for another month or six weeks, at least. I want to be sure he's ok.

For the moment tho, I own a horse. For the first time. There's something about a dream you've carried your entire life coming true that is so overwhelming. I cried all the way home. I can say My Horse.

I think, really think, that when the Universe speaks, you need to listen. You can see where you need to go if you are very quiet and listen, and what you need will be there and come to you, if you do. Very often, it is right there in front of you, and you realize you have been there the entire time.

This is so right.

Love and Illicit Affair,
Lorraine

Ok. I am typing on a really weird keyboard here, and it is NOT going well. It's a laptop of Bosses I am useing this week while I stay with the Mads here, so we can sit and tv and type, but it is weird. And windows.

  29. Oh hooray! My father says the animals that need you will find you. My first horse was a skinny, abused mess, but he was the most beautiful thing I ever saw. No one in their right mind would have bought him but he was perfect for ME. And over 28 years, he proved time and again that he was in the right place. I'm so happy for you and Illicit Affair. You are lucky to have found each other.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Aww, Congratulations! It's always exciting when things like this work out, it's even making me smile.:)

  31. Congratulations!!!
You're allowed to have a Silly Grin you know, you only just achieved a childhood dream and all;)

He definitely needs another name though. Spot is just not dignified enough.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Both of you are just beaming in those pictures. It's amazing.

For a new name, maybe a play on Q or Quiche? Something that reflects he's your Boy. Hmmmm...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Duuude. He totally goes with your hair.

    Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Quixote sprang to mind.

Ooooo, not a "Q" name, but what about Khayam? "A loaf of bread, a jug of wine, and thee..."

Congratulations on a match well, and mutually, made!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I like that we can share the joy in your life. It's been a long, interesting road, following you in abstentia.

  37. Appleblossombeck! Long time no see. Glad you're back commenting. :)

Wow! Billy Bones' friend came out of his closet here. Even if he was at Fiendom Come, I do believe it's a first here. :)

Welcome to Fiendom, Madeleine Bouquet/Laura! Grab a white jacket, and personalize it to your hearts content. :)

Oh, sweetie! I read your blog aloud to my mother tonight...she *really* got the end, especially. She said "go, Quiche" :)

Just wanted to say, the last time I saw pictures of a horse so obviously stuck with the right human, they were an Olympic-medal winning team who had been training for years and years. Yep, you are that horse's..fer shure.

(and once again I toss up the name Ianto, for all of us Torchwooders, and brought to you by the letters I and A.)(um, pronounced "Yanto", for the non-Torchies.)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Lysandwr, that's perfect!! Ianto is perfect! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh, I third Ianto.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Congratulations and jubilations!

Pure Arab...oh, that was the breed of my dream horse. But whatever the breed, once the animal is yours, it's *yours*, and much delight is the result.

The pair of you will generate enough love and happiness to put a permanent glow over your corner of the world, believe you me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good night happy horse owner...and fiends!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Awwwww. He seems happy about it too.
    (total heart melt)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Congratulations!
You both look so happy in those pictures.

I like Ianto as a name, too, but maybe like Luka he will let you know, now that he is yours.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hi Lorraine. Congratulations on buying a horse!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I can see why his call name is Spot, but the mark on his forehead makes me think of someone taking a mouthful of moon.

Are you going to have a call name naming contest? If so, my suggestion is Moonpie.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Morning! Happy day, all. Off to dentist.

    And tickle box.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anonymous08:13

Congratulations! Have to tell you sweetie, I saw this one coming from several miles away!!!! He's a beauty and you both look sooo happy.
The only horse i've ever owned was a beautiful little Welsh pony with the barrel of a Shetland. She was a spitfire and her name was Dixie. Didn't ride her that much, we were just buddies.
Again Best Wishes forever for you and your Illicit Affair!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Morning all! Morning new people! Morning Martin Millar!!!

Chris Lincoln, might have a contest. Not sure that should be your entry tho.

Can't be Torchwood name, never seen the show.

Ought to relate to Illicit Affair. Thought about Romeo, THAT was sure an illicit affair, but didn't end real well for Romeo..

    ReplyDelete
  50. New Illicit Affair related name suggestion: Fling.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It might be worth seeing if he answers to "Bill" in honor of the pony from Lord of the Rings. He was abused and had a hard life at first but absolutely flourished with proper care.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Nice. But not right. Maddy is trying too and has come up with some good ones, but I suspect he will tell me in time.

I always thought I would name my pony Magic, but that's kind of out...

    ReplyDelete
  53. ...Mojo? Magus?

    Okay, I'll stop now.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yay! Yay! What a wonderful thing, and what a lovely bond.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Can I hijack for a minute for the sake of good food? Dear friends of mine raise pigs on Sugar Mountain Farm in Vermont, a beautiful wild place where the animals are treated with just as much respect and care as the humans. Well, except that they do end up as food. Largely to lessen the trauma (for pigs and humans) of having to use an external butcher, my friends are building their own slaughterhouse and are offering CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) pre-buys to help fund the project (which is already progressing nicely). If you live in VT and like pork and have the cash, this is full of win. As a vegetarian I can't personally vouch for their pork but have heard from reliable sources that it is superb.

Their blog's fun too - if you're a fan of Wife Swapping (the TV show) or want a giggle, check this out.

Apologies for HOGging the comments *runs*

    ReplyDelete
  56. I have decided, now that you have a horse, that I want to be YOU when I grow up.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Lorraine, how wonderful! Congratulations on your new family member.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Maybe a Shakespearean name?

    Lysander, Orlando, Oberon, Claudio, Puck?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh, oh, we're looking for names, are we? I'll have to think on this one. I will get back to you. I love the name thing.

    ReplyDelete
  60. \o/

You need something for him, a delectable name that simply rolls off the tongue. Like, Hrothgar?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Ooo! Names! 17 years ago we went to the shelter and called out the name until a kitty answered to it. I still have Finnian with me. :-)

And Chris is out! Hiya Chris, we met in Stillwater & I've been keeping up a correspondence with Billy. Hope he occasionally passes along my "hellos!"

    (I like Tryst, Arwenn!)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Ani - love how you got your cat! Pick the name and then get the matching cat :-)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hi Andrea!
Billy is so good at passing along hellos, it's almost like I've been a part of your conversations.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Lysandwr17:36

So I guess Fast Eddie is out of the question? :)

Seriously, Q, how did I miss that you'd not seen Torchwood? Granted that I just got into it myself last winter.....but I hadn't exactly had much television exposure for a few years there. Though you have been a mite busy on occasion :)

Anyway, CAPTAIN JACK!! sigh. And Gwen (SOOO Welsh!!) Not together. Both for me. Cause I'm selfish that way.

I just thought of Ianto because a) the I and A factor
    b) He's pretty cool
    c) most importantly, he has your job....sorta. Make the tea, pass the ammo, two impossible tasks before breakfast... that kind of thing. :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm envious. Just flat out envious. I too have always wanted a horse. I even still have all my horsey books from when I was a kid.
But I'm also so happy for you. Congratulations.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Nope, don't even know what Torchwood IS, oddly enough.

Horse is a fine thing. I spent time with him today and told him. And everyone at the stable was so happy. I spoke to his former owner too who was so happy as well.

When the Universe talks. Shut up and listen.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Now THAT is Twu Wuv if ever I saw it.

You both look giddy with JOY.

    *beams*

    ReplyDelete
  68. So I totally responded to this earlier but must not have actually hit publish. *facepalm*

Anyway...you look so ecstatically happy. Over the last few months you seem to have a lot of things falling into beautiful place. It makes me so happy to hear about someone who can hear what the universe is saying to them and they accept it and are joyous in it. It is not a common thing. And I find joy in your happiness. Hugs and Love,
    ~Cecily

    ReplyDelete
  69. Well, Jess, as Steve Brust would say "Those are certainly ideas that you, yourself have thought of..."

    Name generator, hee-hee...

At the stable Romeo is way out in front. As far as Illicit Affairs go, it WAS a pretty good one...

    ReplyDelete
  70. Romeo rolls off the tongue nicely, but I rather like Tryst...in my head I've been commentating at a show "And as Tryst and Ms Garland approach the third jump..."

    ReplyDelete
  71. Wow! You'll never regret fulfilling this dream.

    ReplyDelete
  72. What about Lothario?

Currently watching Wisconsin Death Trip, which is about a bunch of crazy newspaper stories from the 1800s, like a lady who would take cocaine then smash windows across the state. I love history!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Didn't know that was a movie, Wendy. I love the book.

Her Dr. prescribed her the cocaine for hysteria. She lived in ST Paul, and she would coke up every few months, and take the train to Black River Falls, and throw bricks thru windows, and the mayor would come get her and put her back on a train and send her home.

It got to be pretty regular.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Lysandwr21:20

    Casanova?

Lancelot (I mean, he was pretty illicit :) *and* he went to Arabia, anyway, in some versions.

or if you want to consider Arabic, for that matter...

Imshallah (also pronounced Inshallah) means "as Allah wills"
...my less devout Arabic friends used it rather more to mean "whatever will be, will be" or "as fate deals the cards."

    ReplyDelete
  75. Big thunderstorm has just hit here, its gone really dark..lightening huge raindrops. Silly Shiraz is trying to tell the thunder off. We've all been sitting behind the scream door watching.

I love watching thunderstorms, and the smell of them - sublime.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Lysandwr21:24

How did I miss that? Will have to find it...

..oddly enough, there was a pickup w/Wisconsin plates ahead of me at the drive-through this evening....we don't get many folks from up thataway...leastways not driving their own vehicles :)

Stop snickering! We have SIX drive-throughs, thank you very much. Not counting the one for cigaretts. Or, um, adult videos.:)

    ReplyDelete
  77. So I went and looked up synonyms (a words that I can not pronounce correctly btw) for Magic, these are the ones I thought were neat. :-)

alchemy, hocuspocus, horoscopy, presage, prestidigitation, rune

    ReplyDelete
  78. Lysandwr21:31

Oh, I do like Alchemy. Just a great word...

    How about Paris?
He was certainly illicit (starting a war with Helen)
...and it also works as perhaps the very best city to HAVE an illicit affair in. Just thinkin...

Can you tell I don't have class this week? AARGGG...I mean, my classes aren't meeting this week.

Okay, back to working on final projects. Really. Not going to read ANY MORE comments. (ooh, go Shiraz! Put that thunder in its place :))

    ReplyDelete
  79. This is not really the direction you seem to be going, but I was thinking of Lic or Lis, short for Illicit.

Sweet potato pie in the oven smells so very good. Hope it turns out alright.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Lysandwr22:01

Okay, I lied. Just couldn't resist Sally and Jess....

Sally--that is SERIOUSLY evol good! :)

Jess--okay, what does this mean? Used the name generator twice, got

    Jolly Jingle (oh, please)

    and (much better)

    Flame Throwing Soliloquy

Seriously. Not making this up. heee.

    oh, Loverboy. C'mere, Loverboy

    ReplyDelete
  81. Hi Lorraine. When I heard you talking about him at the bonfire, I had a feeling this might happen. You two look so happy together. Congratulations.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Isn't it wonderful Lys...and my favorite Beaker was on it. Fods I love him.

Flame Throwing Soliloquy -that is rather good!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I was looking through Netflix for movies to watch for my marathon tonight, and it randomly appeared. I Googled it and saw it was a book, so now I might have to check it out and see if I can get my grubby hands on it. Mary Sweeney is definitely awesome.

I went to college for a semester in St. Peter. On one of the first days there, my freshmen group leader told us all about how St. Peter was supposed to become the state capitol but the city was robbed of the designation and how the big draws to the city are the mental hospital and the college. Fun times.

  84. I have such a strangely wired brain, I was reading the comments and MythBusters. I think, OO! Myth Buster! No Mystic! Nooo Mystic Pizza! I think i might need to close my computer.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I should jump in here and remind you the name we are looking for is his barn name.

He registered name is Illicit Affair, and that stays, ure arab that he is, we just need a call name for him.

I like Romeo, but he was pretty fickle..Rosalind rosalind, I mean hello! Juliet juliet....

Of course when he poops I could say A rose by any other name would smell as sweet...

    ReplyDelete
  86. Given you're recent history with discovering true names, I feel confident that you will find this one too. I'm just having fun being silly.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I just finished the movie. I was sad when Mary Sweeney was sent to the asylum (for good?) but happy when the opera singer escaped to Chicago to sue ventriloquists.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Oh goodness! Please be as silly as you like my dears! You may find it yet that way....

Everyone should own Wisconsin Death Trip....LOVE that book. Want the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Lysandwr00:07

I thought Loverboy was a pretty good barn name....esp if by chance you're a secret Dirty Dancing aficionado.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Okay. Posted my Thanksgiving wishes before reading the last 20 or so comments. Now I need to say....

Somehow my brain put together Lys's comment about people driving rental cars (implied) with drive through windows for adult videos...
and then a commingled name generator suggestion became open zipper....

NOT the image I was looking for on Thanksgiving morning, let me tell you!

Time to go scrub my brain..

  101. Hello, Lorraine! I've not had time to visit for a while, but saw it back when you tweeted about owning Illicit Affair. I am soooo happy for you! This is excellent news. News I had sort of expected to hear, considering how much you love him. I've always wanted a horse of my own, so I totally get where you're at with this. Congratulations, and I wish you well on this journey!
