Bengal Painting Has Arrived!

My Bengal painting came today from Kelli Bickman! I know you have seen this painting but it made me so happy, we are having a second showing. I need to get it framed, and then decide where to hang it. It's really them, all together in a tree. And it is perfect.

I was thinking we might have pictures of the new bathroom (Finally!) but my camera is out of batteries and the charger far away, alas. Perhaps tomorrow we can go touring the Spooky House. Especially if my Cleaning Teen comes, looks WAY better when she has been here. I have NO housekeeping skills.

Don't have much more to say, been a long week. It's Friday, I am home, and content with Bengals for the night. We've eaten well of Fancy Feast, played Featherstick and cooked some steak. (ok -I didn't eat the Fancy Feast. Or the steak.)

I am thinking tea, bath and bed.

Sounds pretty good.

Love and Home,
Lorraine

    good rest and stuffs x

  2. I think there's more room on those branches, too!

We're hunkered down for the snOMG!

  3. What a great thing to get at the end of a busy week. How big is it?

Tea, bath and bed sounds great. Also sounds like a name for a store. Or maybe an Inn.

  4. Bah, I scoff at your snowmageddon. We hold a record here for the most days with at least 5" of snow on the ground - nearly 60 now. With more today, and more tomorrow and more Monday. We haz snow to burn, but it won't.

Also, you can always eat Manwife. He'll feed you for days....

(End of the week crazies? Nah, not me.)

  5. The picture is awesome! I hope you can get some rest.

Snow has been accumulating here all day. I'm not a fan.

I think I'll go eat some nachos. Nachos just sound good right now.

  6. I do not have time to read the post word for word but I really like the Bengal painting. Extremely cool. Good night Fiends.

  7. Oh goodie, our leader has emerged from under a workavalanche...enjoy your TBB Quiche.

Snowmageddon sounds like fun from here, so exotic.

  8. I am not looking forward to snowmageddon set to start here any moment,I work then ight shift at a petro (trucker gass station) so i'll be busy as hell making coffee and cleaning showers ugh. and we can't call out even if they close the roads because if they lcose the roads we get busier.

  9. Oh! Are the Bengals on the tree from top down in order of their arrival at Spooky House?

Not snOMG here. But. It snowed through the morning, curtains of tiny, lovely, shiny, plate-like crystals covering everything. It was quite a surprise when the sun came out. Well, just to see the sun was surprising. Also, everything with the new snow on sparkled and glittered and twinkled, all day in the sun and now in the street lights.

Time for putting monsters to bed.

  10. jess, do you have a cricket bat or a local pub called the winchester?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Jess! His but isn't big. He is just drawn that way!

It's a pretty large painting, more than 3 feet by 2, I would say?

Hi Fai Fai, and welcome. I hadn't thought about that, you would get rather busier.

I wish we were having snowmegeddon! I want to be part of a Weather Event too!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Fab, the Weather Channel is calling for snOMG Snowmageddon to be "Up to 18-24" with a possibility of more is spots".

    That's the hardest hit areas.
    :P

Okay, yes it is the wet slushy crap. Yick

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah but Beez... 18-24 inches of snow in Washington DC causes an unholy mess.

Here the promised 4-8 looks remarkably like 12 and still snowing. That's plenty for me, though I know it's wimpy. It's supposed to keep snowing until mid-Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I know- I should me more merciful.

4" to you? I have friends from State College who seemed sure it was going to be more- and they moved there from Albany so they are kind of used to the snow belt.

I was reading on the 'net how some banking guy was the only one in his D.C. office who came in- he was just disgusted with how the Americans were dealing with snow.

    He was from Finland.

    ReplyDelete
  15. He can be disgusted all he wants - they just don't have the equipment. I was in a snowstorm in North Carolina once. Six inches, and everything was shut down for a week. Turned out they only had one plow for the county!

But not 4" here - looks like about a foot right now, and not supposed to stop just yet.

    ReplyDelete
  16. You sound in dire need of a rest. I hope you are getting it right now as I type (no checking email in the middle of the night, eh?)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Beez, Phiala it's a bit like that with snow here - hen we had the snow in January there were loads of news reports of people complaining that we aren't properly prepared -interspersed with news reports about how it's the worst snow in 13 years. It makes no sense to invest in lots of ploughs etc when you only need them for 3-4 days once every few years.

I remember it snowed when I visited my sister when she was living in North Carolina - less than half an inch, so even to us Brits it didn't seem much, but the schhols all closed and everything ground to a halt!

Hope all fiends stay warm & dry.

I love that painting - Magic in particular as it seems to capture him so beautifully. I think I have ti start saving up...

    ReplyDelete
  18. We've gotten nothing but wimp snows. We wake up to a meek leetle frost on the ground that actually looks comical. Or sad. It quite depends on your perspective.

It isn't that we want snow, but that the morning sprinkle just looks ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Good Morning All! For some reason I am awake, though I could still be sleeping. We have (goes and finds the yard stick, reaches out door as far as arm allows) 15" of snow thus far, and still coming down.

It's so quiet...all muffled up in white crystalline sound absorbency.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wimpy flurry again. Look at that.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I absolutely adore that painting (envy..)and can't wait to see photos of the house today (maybe today?)

Much more snow in NC than normal. The schools do all close... Our precipitation turned to rain yesterday and washed some of the accumulated snow away.

More flurries today but no big deal. Still v grey outside.

Steve went off to yoga class and I'm hunched over the computer with coffee and toast with ginger spread. Eyeballing the still fully decorated and lit Christmas tree. Thinking today might be the day.

Going to see A Single Man this afternoon.

    Missing Calvin :-(

Everyone stay warm and dry and happily fed!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Still love the painting!

The system that's creating snOMG/snowmageddon in the East came through Texas a couple of days ago. We set a record for the amount of rain on February 4, around 1.5". It was supposed to end by 3:00 PM Thursday, but didn't until around 9:00 PM. Don't you just love El Nino years?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Our poor planet's weather...

I'm fine, really. Doing both better and worse than I expected, if that makes sense.

Feeling good about the decision, it was the right one at the right time, relief about not having so much cat maintenance to do (though he was OK with most of it and it made him feel better without question). It took a serious toll on us.

Bad because OMG he's gone :-( But I expected that and know for sure from previous experiences that it will pass and the good memories will still be with me. And we talk about him a lot.

Got a lovely note from the vet yesterday - he really touched her, too.

New cats will definitely be in the future but it may be a few months.

Need to stand up and get a jump on this day! What? Too late for that? Surely not!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hugs and sympathy, Jane.

    We have 14-16 - it's been blowing a lot.

The wonderful man with the snowblower lives two houses in one direction, and when there's a lot of snow he likes to clear the walk for the lady who lives alone one house in the other direction. So he just runs the snowblower around half the block! He even cleared off the end of my driveway for me (the dreaded plow mound).

So I went across the street and helped the poor unsuspecting guy who moved here from Florida. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. While you guys deal with snowmageddon, I'm going to decide whether or not I want to brave drizzlemageddon to get to my synagogue.

    Everyone be safe!!!!!

Oh, and there's a Mardi Gras going on out there.

And, a Saintsmageddon, which officially started at the end of the last Saints game.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm sorry, Jane, but I am glad you're pulling through like the Fiend you are.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Morning!

No snow here, nothing to talk about anyway.

Going into work for a few hours, then for a ride! Sounds good to me. Can't find any socks tho, where do they GO???

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ask Venus and Mim. I bet they know.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Love the painting. Asian Leopard Cats have small heads compared to their body and a long torso so when sitting it looks like they have large bottoms. Because Magic is so close to the ALC he has retained the small head, long torso and looks bottom heavy.

Jane, I so understand. There is relief at having made the decision you know was coming, relief that they aren't in pain, relief that you don't have to "deal" any longer and GUILT, lots of guilt, even though you did everything you could. Good thing hearts heal even if they are never perfect again.

  30. Another Bengal Saved
A kind person in OH read a Craigslist Ad for a FREE 7 year old bengal neuter. She was so worried that he would be scooped up for dog bait that she contacted the owner and picked him up and then contacted me. We met 1/2 way Thursday night and he is now in foster care. Big, beautiful, brown spotted boy that is sooo sweet. This is the 2nd time in a month that a kind person has gotten a free bengal and then emailed us to put the cat into rescue. Thanks Robyn.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Out of curiosity, with all the rescuer folks here, has anyone here ever braved the process of actually filing for 501c3 status? I have the Nolo Press book, and all the paperwork, but it still seems a bit daunting and would love to know which ticky boxes, etc. someone else filled out specifically for animal rescue, which worked with the IRS.

Amanda and I have been meaning to do this for a year. We have the name, and the website, but we'd really like the non-profit status for fund-raising, etc.

    anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Kimberly, GLBR is a 501c3 and we did all the work outselves, headed by a volunteer, Juli. We passed the first time so I am very proud of the work we did on this, it was difficult but not impossible. I will be happy to send you our paperwork to use as a guideline, just send me your email address.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Bengalgirl that would be AWESOME!! kimberly@jennery.com works! Thanks SO much!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Janet, your words are so true and a comfort.

And yea for another Bengal saved!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Now there's a package to cheer an especially overworked assistant. Can't wait to see it in place.

No snow here. Normally I wouldn't mind if there were, but I have an honest-to-goodness party to go to tonight. A swank party (by my casual standards), for which I need to Dress Up. This is the Chicago chapter of Kyle Cassidy's Virtual Party. I still can't believe I'm going. I'm rather nervous about it. When I came to FiendFest, I at least knew all of you here. These will be completely new people. People who I fear will be way out of my league. But I am going to go. I am.

I still need to make the cake I'm taking. The infamous vegan Guinness chocolate cake. And take a shower. And try to dress up. Gulp.

Wishing warmth and safety to all the snowed in fiends. And a lovely weekend all around.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yay for saving bengals! I'm really not used to seeing another Robyn...I thought, "what did i do? oh, not me!" ;-) I"m not Robyn here anyway! Maybe i need more tea.

We've been getting rain rain rain rain rain here but it's mellowing out now. The ground is more than saturated so things are starting to shift and slide. We don't get the dramatic SoCal mudslides but our main highway into Silicon valley had some mud creeping onto it yesterday. I'm very very glad we fixed our backyard drainage problem and put in sump pumps a few years ago. If we hadn't our living room would be soaked.

    ReplyDelete
  37. OSS - You Rock ChiTown tonight, my girl - and get a picture of you looking all swanky. I saw on Kyle's blog that you were invited, and got all giddy there. You are a fiend - you are every bit as special as they are!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Who likes you rock the party? You like to rock the party! Not sure if you're Flight of the Conchords fan...

    ReplyDelete
  39. OSS! Have fun and send reports. We're with you there in spirit.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Jane, Thinking of you in your missing of Calvin and LOVING that you still have your tree up. It was not unusual when I was growing up for us to keep the tree up into Feb!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wow, Jess, that's a lot of snow!Pretty, but I hope it's cleared before you *have* to drive anywhere.

OSS - they are probably all thinking you're out of their league, having given Mr Cassidy the idea, an' all.

Have a wonderful time (and remember, those bearing chocolate cake are always going to be welcome!)

Look forward to hearing all about it, and maybe seeing pictures, later.

I've mostly been doing housework today. The house is now clean & shiny (downstairs, at least) and my heap-of-stuff-that-needs-sorting which has been growing on the table since Christmas is now all sorted and filed where it belongs. Not fun, but it leaves me with a sense of accomplishment.

    ReplyDelete
  42. OSS- OMG!!!!! Have fun at the digital party! I'm thinking of holding one in New Orleans when I get some money together!!!!!!!

They are not out of your league! You are awesome! Just remember that you're there to have fun and meet awesome people (like yourself) and you'll be fine.

    <3 for the Fiends!!!!!

  43. For those not on twitter, I have to share my new board game.

  44. By popular demand (well, Aleta asked), here is the recipe for Vegan Chocolate Stout Cake. Impress your vegan friends. Amaze your non-vegan friends.

This is pretty much just a Wacky Cake with beer. So it's crazy-easy.

    3 c flour
    1 1/2 c sugar
    1/2 c cocoa
    1 t salt
    2 t baking soda
    2/3 c oil
    4 t vinegar
    1 t vanilla
12 oz stout (I use Guinness, but a chocolate stout would be great too.)
    1/2 c water

Stir all dry ingredients together. Make three wells in the dry mix. Pour in oil, vinegar, and vanilla, one in each well. Pour stout over all and add water. Mix well. Bake at 350 in a lightly oiled 9x13 pan for 25-35 min.

I never frost this, but a sprinkling of powdered sugar soon before serving is pretty.

Thanks for all the reassurances. What can I say, I'm easily intimidated by cool people. I've had time to get used to the collective coolness here.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm sure someone was waiting for more Z&Z, right?

Well, here they are, fresh from this morning!

Zoraline and Ziggy in a video that shows how much of a love Zora is

    Also, Pillsbury Dough Kitten

As always, there are more where those came from if you click through. I need to upload yesterday's vids... too cute, of course!

    ReplyDelete
  46. OSS, it will be fun. And your cake will be a great hit. You are a cool kid too, you know. After all, none of them went to the first ever Fiendcon. *grin*

My version of Snowpocalypse. I know it doesn't compare to places that actually get snow (I grew up in northern Michigan), but nonetheless unexpectedly deep.

Kimberly, those two are sooo cute, and you've done a wonderful job with them.

    ReplyDelete
  47. So our total is about 20"! Neighbor down the street plowed the driveway twice....for $40.00. Well worth it, as the chiropractor (after we shovel out 100' of drive) is way more expensive, not to mention the avaoidance of pain. We have one and a half cars dug out, cookies made, the woodstove going, and have been enjoying the quiet. So little noise outside. Lovely!

Penny and our extra young adult, Liam, built a great snow tunnel. The only really unhappy being is the cat, who is certain this snow is intended to annoy her. She's been following me around all day, staring accusingly at me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Um, okay Fiends, will I do?

I feel like such an impostor on the rare occasions I wear makeup.

Don't think I can manage a picture of the outfit with Photo Booth. It's a long black skirt with different textures in the panels, and an uneven hem. The top has some black embroidery and a few metal sequins. It has extra long sleeves that extend several inches beyond my hands when they're hanging down. In a word, hippy-dippy, which is my version of evening wear.

    ReplyDelete
  49. OSS, you look great! Go have a good time :-)

    ReplyDelete
  50. P.S. I'm counting on the drunken earrings to give me Fiendish confidence!

    ReplyDelete
  51. OSS you look absolutely fabulous! And you are so so cool. And El-rings will bring the power of the fiendom with you!

    Rock on!

    ReplyDelete
  52. oss, looking awesome have tons of fun:)

    ReplyDelete
  53. OSS, you look beautiful.
    ((((((J/S))))))))
It is a year ago today that those awful fires burnt out 1/4 of my state and killed all the people, and I remember well how you all helped me through the terrible hours worrying listening to the updates and hoping family and friends were okay.
I am listening to the memorial service through tears.
I will get some joy watching Z & Z when the service is over.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yay OSS You look awesome! Everyone at the party will be in awe! Of you and the cake, I'm sure!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Charged camera battery. It's very charged, in fact it is STILL charging out at work. No bathroom pics tonight.

Interesting ride. First off YOU try going out, 15 degrees to a dark pasture looking for a dark horse in a black blanket.

It's just all cats that are grey in the dark.

Maizie is really a horse.I need to learn to ride. I think the first thing I said after I got on her was I AM NOT IN CONTROL OF THIS SITUATION. She is a tricksy beast!

The answer of course was SIT BACK on my BUTT, and kick that horse. (Yes, I do wear a helmet) Lot of horse that one, but if I can't handle her, I can't handle DIm.

One nice thing, my half chaps zipped up easily. I think I've lost weight. Yeah, in my CALVES!

    ReplyDelete
  56. OSS, you look GREAT!

That is some righteous snow there Jess & Phiala, by any standard.
Hopefully y'all can just relax and enjoy the fact that life can slowwwww way down.

Ack! Killed again by Ziggy cutes! How many times can one little kitty slay me?
Kind of in love wit ZoraMom too.

  58. Watching COPS. (yeah, but I really like it sometimes)

When will these people learn that when the cops find crack in your pocket, purse or car "That's not mine" is NOT a real good defense? But then, one supposes people carrying crack are not the brightest bulbs on the marquee...

Am switching to Toddlers and Tiaras. Need some good horror...

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yeah, anything over a foot of snow is downright inconvenient no matter where you live. The availability of equipment just determines whether it's a problem for a few hours or a few weeks.

Q, sounds like fun. Except, you know, for the hunting the horse down, and the making it behave.

My chocolate chip pecan cookies should be out of the oven very, very soon. Why did I not start baking with really good vanilla much earlier????

    ReplyDelete
  60. My... those descriptions make me so glad I don't have a tv.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Riding in the dark. Seems it would be more romantic in the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I am watching SUV. I much prefer the fictional COPS to the "real" ones.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The arena is lit, we can't ride outside in the winter or the dark...

AM going to switch to SUV soon. T and Tiaras is REALLY scary. 4-7 year old swimsuit contest? In Bikinis? These Mom's need to meet up with the Intervention people...

    ReplyDelete
  64. I REALLY do not get that whole pageant thing. I mean I barely get it for teens and adults. Toddlers? Yicks.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sally, I was thinking about that just the other day, wondering when that was. I'm sure it was a hard day - sending love your way.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Spiritless Prices for Despondent P--

    Exactly!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Jess, personal tunnels = Habitat Trails.

    Think about that.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Sock, lookin' GREAT! And chocolate cake and guaranteed good conversations, I imagine. Sounds like a blast.

You folks out east, enjoy the quiet. :)

{{Dragon Sally}} I'm amazed to know it's been a year. I remember your posts, and watching the memorial ceremony online, with Princess Anne, wasn't it? And the many prominent spiritual and cultural folks, and I cried through most of it. I've since learned, someone brought the "We Are Australia" (is that the name? the folk-type song?) here, and now there's a "We Are Canadian" version.

I'm sitting upstairs with the laptop while the monsters fall asleep. Had another family reading night, tonight the chapter where Harry Potter gets on the Hogwarts Express for the first time.

We're getting snow, as often happens, but just flurries, and some sunshine again today, but mostly I'm stuck inside with a cold.

Q, have you ever heard Rev. Payton's Dig Damn Band? They've got this a song called Your Cousin's on Cops.

    ReplyDelete
  69. OSS - beautiful photo. You seem to have the right makeup touch. Hope the party was fun!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yes, I think Princess Anne was here. I'm sure you'll see clips from his ceremony in too, being in Canada and all.
    Thanks Siri
And pageants, I REALLY don't get them either, especially for children.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Has it been a year already?

*hugs* Sally. I remember thinking how hard it would be to even fathom such a disaster by fire.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Wow Sally, really hard to believe it has been a year. Thinking of you and your people on this anniversary.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks Aleta and Beez. I was listening to one of the speakers this morning -she and her husband lost their house and son. It amazes me how people go on after such tragedies.

    ReplyDelete
  74. {{{Sally}}}

Thank you, dear Fiends. I did enjoy the party. Met lots of interesting people, all of whom I hope to meet again. Got typically tongue-tied when meeting Kyle and Trillian online though.

Now I'm turning into a pumpkin. A quick tour of twitter, then off to bed.

    ReplyDelete
  75. snow? thankfully the rain stopped for a bit. thinking dry non-slidey thoughts for the people who live at the foots of mountains, this rain is nail biting.

i like the idea of monochromatic horses, i was thinking it's a bit like wizard of oz, all the horses the same grey, and then they come inside and it's all technicolor.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hey, snowmaggedon is on out tv news. Incredible juxtaposition...last year's fires, flooding in Queensland today and snowmaggedeon. A definite theme

Jess, maybe you should build an igloo?

Glad you like the new name. Fablor. burninating everywhere! Need the strenth thee days I do.

  85. While I was out in campusland this afternoon I remembered to go into one of the campus bookstores too see if they had art supplies. I now own a sketchbook and pencils again. Time to think more about my Night Garden contribution.

    Maybe just tired.

My Horse was too wild for me today. Rode Anna and worked on sitting on my BUTT, by which one sits BACK, way further than you think you ought to, but it works better.

  92. When I can't figure out Moody or Danc-y, I choose chocolate then it doesn't matter which it was.

  94. Morning.

    Sleepy.

I think my tea kettle broke, like between one cup and the next. The light is on but the water does not get hot.

    Not helping the morning.

  95. Oh no! Tea disaster!

  96. teamageddon!

  97. Kimberly, that is one of my favorite Ziggy pictures.

I am tea lazy, have a hot water faucet in the sink and just zap that water in the microwave.

  98. i should add, that i just have the monday mornin blues, not anything specific at work bothering me. change is exhausting, and right now my job is all flux and new things.

Yep, change is very exhausting. Sending energetic wishes your way.

  100. Hi, I have the Monday blues too. Tonight I leave for a vehicular business trip - at least I'll get a change of scenery, which might perk me up, though I'll drive back home in teh snowz.

Ziggy is still my leader. All hail kitty paws and warm bellies!

  101. We're taking Ben to Disneyland this week. First trip, totally excited. Just bought tickets, holy expensive batman! I thought I put too many in my cart but nope! Jeebus!

  102. Chantrelle, have fun!!

Monday pukes here. Not so fun. I hate being sick. And watching M be sick. At least I have time to read comments. Between cleaning out "The Bowl Of Doom"!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Oh dear, I thought it was only M sick but if you both are...
Get well soon. Immediately, in fact!

    ReplyDelete
  104. It was just M 'till about an hour ago.

Thanks! I will get on that getting better part.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Oh dear, hope you & M both feel better very soon, Gayle.

And that a new teakettle can quickly be obtained for Q. Even La FabLo cannot be expected to rule the universe without tea.

    (((((V)))))) for a better day.

Anyone else need a hug while I'm handing them out?

  109. Hey, Sal...Here's the 20" we got Saturday, and I'll happily forward the 10-18" they're predicting for Tomorrow night into Weds.

Let me know when it gets there, okay? I couldn't figure out how to send it with delivery confirmation.

(More seriously, I hope you ate least get some relief soon.)

    ReplyDelete
  110. Err...that would be at least, not ate least.

  111. Friday. It will arrive on Friday I'm told.

    Eagerly awaiting delivery.

  112. Thanks, all. Nap was had. We are on the mend I think. My temp is still high but M's is going down. Short-lived sick is better than long!

  113. I'm watching The Visitor (which is not an alien movie, like I was expecting, some of my Netflix queue movies have been sitting unwatched for WAAAYYYYY too long) and I keep thinking about projects I could do with students, like have them watch the movie and lead discussions about diversity and immigration and have a mock immigration trial where students get to represent the immigrant in the movie and the state in his case.

I am also drinking lots of tea with sugar. If I start spazzing out, that is why. Brown sugar is surprisingly good in tea.

    ararararrraaahhhhrarararhhahhahhra (rabid tea drinking noises)

Also, Kitty got locked in the closet all day while I was at school. And, someone keeps batting their favorite toy, a pink fuzzball, under the crack in the door and into the hall. I think it's Serious.

Right now they're playing by chasing each other around the apartment (not fighting, they keep asking each other trilling questions and trying to pounce on one another) and Kitty was surprised when she pounced on a garbage bag in the middle of the floor.

    That is all.
