Keep Your Heros....

THAT, my dears, is Nancy Wilson from Heart, still rocking. Still my hero. After all these years. My second guitar, when I was 13, was the Exact Same Very Guitar that Nancy played. (An Ovation) Of course. And one of my first solos I learned was the intro to Crazy On You.

I never got to see Heart as a teenager, or after. Saw them on Sunday. I'm still happy about that.

I had a lot of thoughts on the importance of Heros this week. They seem to have fled me, the thoughts, not the Heros. They've turned into something like: "Heros. Good." Nancy was one of the first woman musicians I loved, admired and wanted to be, along with Mary Travers, at nine, and Frida Lyngstad from Abba, at 11. They were my Heros. And Dorothy Hamil, and Chris Evert, For skating and Tennis. Strong women all.

I still have Heros. Keep your Heros. Find new ones. Follow them. And get inspired. Again. And again. Take from that and let it come out in everything you do, every moment. And you may find out you are someone's Hero too. Or just make them happier. For that moment.

There. That's my Deep Thought for tonight.

I am home now, Woodsman Hans having agreed to sleep with the Dogs tonight, while the Boss is gone. (OK, so that came out really wrong, you know what I mean.) Cabal is a lot better, so much that it is hard to keep him quiet, and not playing. The operation was a complete success, and he will have his TPLO surgery on August 10th. And another 6 weeks of recovery. But then, Dog Party!

Dim pulled himself up lame on Monday. No idea why, but it doesn't seem serious, say Those That Know These Things. He's not limping now, tho very scary at the time it was. Very scary. He lurched. He must have strained something, running about. We walk tho now, and it seems to be healing well.

No riding him of course, so I rode two other horses this week. Which was great, to put it mildly. Learned a LOT in my lessons on them. I've learned that your leg needs to be completely relaxed as it has four parts (so far that I know of) to it, each of which one uses independently at any moment. Your hands have fingers, which work two reins, each of which do different things. At any moment. And your elbows of all things play a huge part. Your seat sits Back, and your upper body turns. And your Core can stop a horse in its tracks. You use all of these, all the time and all at once.

Pretty cool, eh?

All the Bengals are lovely. Well, not really. They are grumpy. They are not liking this Not At Home Much, but they forgive.

Remember Zoraline? The Bengal in San Fransisco we saved, with her kitten? She needs a home. Her Foster home is only taking kittens now and is full up, and this beautiful girl needs her Forever Home. If you are out there, think about it. No problems, except her fused leg, which doesn't slow her up much. Sweet, and loving she is. Think about it.

And Beez has a new Friend she saved from the street. We need to find some low cost vet care for the Baby, or start sending Beez some Fivers to help out. Poor thing was very close to being dead, and then Someone, in this case Beez, cared. If they cross our paths, we save them.

And that makes a difference.

You are my Heros.

Love and Admiration,
Lorraine

  2. I love the inspiration I find here. Feeling kind of quiet and introspective, which I hope means personal growth is in my future.

  3. This post made me smile. Heros. Good.

I feel inspired now to think about who my heros are right now. I know I am inspired by so many people here and off line.

I love love love the description of what you are learning in your riding lessons. I love the way this is challenging your whole self. Make me think about many much stuffs.

  4. wherefore to help the beez out?

i love it when you write about what you learn horsing around. it's very poetic and descriptive in an animated way.

oh and i'm glad i caught my typo as horing around is a whole different type of learning.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Well thanks, Data!

Thinking is good. We all have Thinks about these things. And I feel like I should try and write some of them sometimes. It's such a cool time, and I learn so much from you when I do.

    Challenging is so good.

Vampi, just you WAIT till I start horing around. Or even just dating. THEN we will have some STORIES!

  6. BEEZ! SO, how do we help? Where can we send you some fivers? You cared. You saved him. Hims costs lots. That's what we are here for.

We need it on Twitter too.

  7. Um....wow. I didn't expect this. Let me think.
If anyone has a line on a vet that would do reduced fee/sliding fee in the Twin Cities area (I will travel too- some of the outlying vets may be cheaper) let me know please?

Oh- here is the New Baby. He can actually walk across a room now, which is a vast improvement.

    Rorschach the kitteh

    ReplyDelete
  8. And where can we send Fivers, if we have them lying about? Paypal?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Didn't even think of that. I could set up a Paypal account for him.

    *goes to do so*

    ReplyDelete
  10. Paypal says that the account can be reached through marybz56@yahoo.com.

I never had much to do with Paypal before. I feel kind of...Luddite-ish?

Also, I have emails out to some local rescue groups, hopefully for info on vets that might help. Haven't heard back, but I know they're swamped.

Thank you so much for this.

  11. Yay heroes!

On friday, ben's camp is having theme day. This week it's Superhero day. One kid raised his hand and said, "can we just be a hero? not a superhero?" I want to know what he's dressing up as but we won't be there friday!

I've notice that since I don't play tag w/ ben as much these days, my skirt waistbands are a little tighter...well, not too big like they got there for a bit. Guess I need to start playing tag again.

  12. I have heroes and actally never told anyone, ever, who they were until this evening. He's the most amazing friend, really, so it was okay to tell him.

    Hope Dim is okay.

  14. I wouldn't mind horing around right now. But, I have cats. And, pecan beer. Did you know they make beer out of pecans? Must be a Southern thing.

I have been drinking pecan beer. And, watching True Blood. It made me cry. Now I have to wait impatiently for the next disc to arrive from Netflix.

My posting will be infrequent until monday. Tomorrow I work, then go to dinner for the neighbor's 6th bday, then have to pack stuff for our weekend in Monterey at the motorcycle races! Woo! MotoGP baby. I'll be tweeting but the subject of my tweets will be boys going way too fast on 2 wheels so i'll probably bore you all ;-)

  22. Morning! Seems to be raining. Not exciting storming. Just raining. Doesn't make me want to LEAP up and go out to the stables and walk my Horsie thru the woods.

    Hmmph.

May do yoga in the Romance Room. I have these exercises I do now every day, too, for core and triceps. She Who Owns It All , is sneaky, she keeps adding to them.

It's riding lessons AND a personal trainer. All in one. And stress relief.

  26. Gotta agree with DG. You're one of my heroes. Inspiring as all get out, you are.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well thank you! Just let me tell you what your hero is inspiring tomorrow night!

SALT. Drive in. Me and the Dogs.

    I am SO excited!

As of yet, no PEOPLE, not sure if this is a party or pathetic. But oh yes! Me and the Dogs are going out for Friday Night!

Should I bring pillows and a sleeping bag? Make a bed for the three of us in back and watch out the back of the 4 Runner? Like we did when we were kids?

    ReplyDelete
  28. That sounds like so much fun. I miss drive-ins. When the whole family went, we would make big paper grocery bags of popcorn before going.

What was less fun (for me) was when I was sent along with my older sisters when they had a date at the drive in. They always went to boring films, and I would fall asleep. It was as if they meant for that to happen ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh, I've always loved Heart! Good stuff! I'm glad Cabal is doing well. I've missed a lot lately.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Get into you PayPal account, go to "send Money" and enter the email address and the amount. That should work.

    ReplyDelete
  33. make sure in paypal that you mark it as a gift. below the dollar there is an area to click what type of money transfer it is, ebay, goods and services, etc. the gift option is on a second tab in that little area.

that way there shouldn't be any extra paypal fees on it.

  35. Your Heroic Leader is TIRED. SLoooowwwing down. This day hasn't STOPPED since I woke at 6:30.

    Kind of need it to.

Last FM radio is playing me Things It Thinks I like. SO far it thinks I like Dresden Dolls, Amanda Palmer and Evelyn Evelyn.

    YOU THINK????

I get to sleep at home tonight again! May watch a little Underworld with the Bengals before bed, they LOVE that movie. To make up for not taking them to the drive in. You know.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Days going on too long: I feel your pain.
Lying here on the sofa trying to achieve the energy to get off the sofa & go to bed, but lapcat is so putty & snuggly it seems mean to disturb him.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Do Not Disturb Putty Cat

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am also sleepy. I consulted with the head of the English graduate program today, and he was VERY optimistic about me getting in. The downside: I will be in a three year program. The upside: I can apply to be a graduate assistant for the last two years in the program. Which means I would be going to school for free and would be teaching classes at the university.

My definition of hero has changed. It used to be people like Ron Perlman and David Carradine- people I really admired. Now, it is people who inspire me to live a better life, like FabLo and Kyle Cassidy.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Burned my tongue on my tea today. Ate a tomato. Am now tempted to run myself over with a car.

    ReplyDelete
  40. *ahem* for "putty" read "purry"

I wonder whether a putty cat would squeeze into smaller holes than the normal kind, or just get dry & flaky round the edges?

Am feeling very slightly guilty: when I went out to check his water I realized the reason he'd been yelling at me since I got home wasn't, as I thought, because I failed to give him my cheese, but because his food dish was empty.
Of course, he then pointedly ignored it when I filled it. Should I read him the story of the Boy Who Cried Wolf, do you think?

Also, LiHuaEmily No running yourself over. That *never* ends well. You may, however, eat another tomato if you wish. Did you see Nathalie's tomato-y recipe?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Huh, and here I was thinking putty - the soft & squishy kind was the perfect description for a relaxed cat.
That, and the fact that we are putty in their cute little pawses.
Lorraine, if you're going to the drive in you have to watch from the back of the 4 Runner. I'd even go so far as putting a sofa in the back *grin*
I'm still getting a fright when I walk past a mirror Fiends.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Home home home!!!!!

    I love this place.

Watching UNDERWORLD, in French, with the Bengals, since I am taking Lola and Cabal to the Drive in to see SALT tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh please, like I'm gonna eat another tomato with THIS flaming tongue.

    ...

Oh. My. Fods. I have flaming tongue. All shall fear me. HAH. Yes.

  44. argh....the flaming tongue...

  45. Trying to Facebook. Clearly, I am not in my element!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Beez, Facebooked the Pay Pal info for Rorschach. I hope you get an avalanche of 5's. :) How is he?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh right, just toss that around, Gayle "I facebooked the paypal info" like that is EASY or something!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ha! It's all an illusion. It took me, like, half an hour. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Watching you on Facebook is FUN Lorraine!
Almost as good as you on coffee!

I vote back of 4Runner, but bring an air mattress or something. May as well be comfortable (and we're not 10 any more. Really we're not).

Rory seems a little better every day- I'm still concerned about the amount of water being drunk (lots) but it seems to be slowing down. Definitely filling out a wee bit, doesn't seem quite as if you could touch his backbone by rubbing his tummy. Honestly, I've never seen such a caved-in looking animal except in the ASPCA ads.
We found what looks like a semi-healed injury on his (her?) front right leg, but he's putting weight on it all right.

    Rory being woken up

(S)he's decided that the small cat-carrier is just perfect for a cave, even though there is also a nice box with a comfy towel.

    ReplyDelete
  50. One might learn to like Facebook. Though it depends on the Friends one accepts. My brother's crowd and my goofy aunt? Pain ensues.

  56. Fiends! Hi!

The Albuquerque airport has free WiFi, and I have lots of extra time. I got here early in hopes they would sort my seat assignments out, but no such luck.

So I might get to actually sit on the plane I paid so much money for, and I might actually get home for the funeral. I'm not convinced...

Albuquerque was very good - weaving and friends, and oh the shopping! Except for the looming stress, and sadness, and some guilt about enjoying myself instead of staying at home.

My class went very well, except I misremembered the time I was to end and rushed through the last bits only to discover that I had 20 minutes. Ooops. Despite that, people told me good things afterward.

    ReplyDelete
  57. The ABQ internet blurped, and I'm not sure if I got the little box checked...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well Phiala, I am pleased to hear you had a great time!

    And Jess.

THANKS, now I love Mr. Stabby! Heh!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Phiala, will keep fingers crossed that you get on the plane and home in time for the funeral.
And glad that, in spite of everything you enjoyed your stay. I'm sure the class members were glad, too.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Heck Jess, you scored big: even Jack found Mr. Stabby disturbing.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Exactly! That poor little bunny!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Here's hoping you got aboard Phiala.
I'm glad Albuquerque was good- you needed and deserved it.

Jess, I like Mr Stabby! I have a sick mind like yours.

I cannot wait to hear about Fearless Leader's adventure @ drive in with Dogs. Should be awesome.

Rory progresses a little bit each day, seems a bit farther from death's door. Even got a tiny little purr, almost more of a faint hum, but there.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Jess, you are the, the, the...overload of Weebl madness? I just got stuck there snorting evilly.

And returning to serious programming. Hope you get home in time Phiala.

    Ugh. caffeine. need.

    floaty flying thoughts for phiala

i wonder if there is a drive in around here. i used to love going to drive ins!

i so did not believe it was friday, that's what kind of a week it was.

    :)

  65. Yay Friday. Except Mom is way sick. CAT scan tomorrow. We'll see what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yikes, Lihua, I'll keep your Mom in my thoughts.... keep us informed, please!

    ReplyDelete
  67. :( sending thoughts for your mom lihua

    ReplyDelete
  68. LiHua, I hope everything is okay with your mother, and that the CAT scan is just the doctor CHA. Positive vibes heading your way in any case. {{Li Hua}}

Has anyone heard from Lysandwr? Still keeping her and Brenda in my thoughts.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh LiHua, best thoughts and good health prayers for your mom.

    Ariandalen, Lys recently posted that:

"Mom is doing *much* better (for someone who will presumably need supplemental oxygen for the rest of her life) and actually made it up the stairs yesterday to spend a few hours in her own bed!!! YAY! BIG celebration!"

    ReplyDelete
  70. LiHua, sorry to hear your Mom is sick. I hope she feels much better, very soon.

Adventures at drive in sound fun. I've never been to one, all my mental images are based on the drive-in scene from 'Grease'..

    ReplyDelete
  71. Lihua - sending lots of love and good health vibes for your mom, and comfort for you. Gmail ate your comment - I had to come to the blog to see what had happened :(

    ReplyDelete
  72. hmmm. i haven't thought about heroes for ever so long, either. but thinking on it some, have decided that people who rescue and help rescue animals are an excellent place to start thinking about it again... :)

healing, supportive thoughts to Brenda and Lys (what great news!), to LiHua's mum, to Phiala and Nick's family in the coming days.

past midnight, monsters still awake; i'm on the way from Arizona to Alberta. *whew* in Missoula tonight, in a quite nice hotel, with an excellent pool, and a CREEK outside the window! non-chain hotels FTW.

    Sally I likes teh hair!

and ... what? doggies at the drive-in? and what is SALT?

and i've taken long enough to type that teh monsters are now sleeping. so go i.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks Na...and yeah, what is Salt?
    Happy Travelling Na

  75. Salt It isn't out yet. Maybe not in Australia either?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Blogger just ate my very long comment about sleeping in airports and how spending hundreds of dollars will not get you to funerals.

I don't have the energy to rewrite it, but you get the idea.

    *cries*

    ReplyDelete
  77. Phiala, I'm sorry to hear that ...

So she's on her way to get scanned now ... Ben and I will both be at work. I'll update you. We were supposed to goto Mohegan Sun, but unfortunately had to cancel that. I'm okay about it but we haven't told William yet. He's been talking about going to the hotel, all excited, so my mom is of course dreading that news. But at least Ben and Jack can still go to their Goo Goo Dolls concert.

    ReplyDelete
  78. {{{{Phiala}}}}

Do you get to get home today, at the very least?

    ReplyDelete
  79. hah! Found an outlet. Detroit airport is not nearly as nice as Albuquerque.

I'll be home today, DG. I'm on a flight that leaves here at 10;15 and gets to State College about 11:15. Run home, take a shower, apologize to the cat, put on clothes I didn't sleep on an airport floor in. Make the 2-hour drive to the family. See Nick & Grendel, meet friends and relations I don't know. The usual major family event stuff, complicated by being 12 hours later than planned, and without much if any sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I don't think my mom would like me actually mentioning her diagnosis here but it is what she thought it was. You know. Treatable but hindering. She'll be really sick for a while, I guess. We're going to try and line up another hotel trip for William so that when we drop that bomb on his head, he'll have something else to look forward to.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I am glad it's treatable, and I would imagine quite a relief for you all to have a definite diagnosis.
Lots of love and good wishes for all of you. ((LiHua))

    ReplyDelete
  82. Very sorry she'll be sick for a while, tho'.

Do you have family or friend nearby who will be able to help out?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Ah....love to your mom Lihua. I'm sorry- being sick for an extended time is tough, and hard on the family too. I'm glad it's treatable.

William may surprise you. Sometimes the little guys do.

    ((Phiala)) :(

    ReplyDelete
  84. Thanks, Fiends ... Marjorie, my mom's friend has been a great help. Got Ben and me to work this morning, so we didn't have to walk the mile to the bus stop, which of course would have been fine but it's nice to have help.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Sending love to them's that need it. I'm glad we are here, for anything.

The Dogs loved the drive in, and I had a great time! SALT was great in exactly the way I wanted it to be, and I can't wait to see it again, I think there's more there than meets the eye.

The lightning in the background from the severe storms that moved in was a GREAT edition.

Cabal and Lola and I went to the Farmers Market today. They love the Bacon Scones. I do Asian for breakfast and all are happy. We meet a LOT of new friends, lol. And I have two friends who come and help wrangle. One CANNOT buy eggs with two dogs along.

I think tonight is stay home and watch movies. With the dogs. Cabal cant' be alone yet.

No. The Bengals DO NOT Like this. AT ALL!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Look, All Y'all (Love the phrase!) I only have a couple hours here. Being a Hero and all, SOMEONE should chat with me.

Don't make me go to Facebook! It scares me.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I'm here...and there...and FB. Don't be afraid Little 'Lo, it'll be okay *grin*

    ReplyDelete
  88. I'm here! But it's nearly my bedtime, what with waking up at 5 am today. (I don't think there should be allowed to BE a 5am at weekends)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Farmers Market sounds fun. I went to the library this morning. It was full of Daleks & Cybermen & Sontarans & Stormtroopers & Children. I'm chosing to believe this is all about teaching children that sci-fi comes in books as well as on screen, and not a cunningly disguised alien invasion.
    No Doctor, sadly.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Just catching up - Emily, sorry about your mom and glad something can be done.

Phiala - best laid plans don't always work - so sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Hey, Fiends. Hi Quiche; sorry I wasn't around. Did you end up Facebooking? ((0.0))

    ReplyDelete
  92. Emily, sending heaps more love and strength to you, your Mom and your brothers.

Phiala, not fair! I hope things go as well as possible when you manage to get to Nick's side.

And yes, I imagine buying eggs and keeping them whole with 2 energetic dogs in tow would be very difficult Quiche.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Thanks, Sally ... she sure does have a lot of crap in store. And she knows it.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Ben and Jack are busy rocking out. You might like to check out their FB page? http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Remedy/101900869858715?ref=ts Sadly they don't have any videos up (yet) but you'll get, you know. The idea.
