Did I Mention Ireland?

Morning! Lots to cover here and not much time, In fact I am going to Blog while doing four or five other things, so keep up. Or get culled from the pack.

I'm leaving for Ireland in the morning. For my first Holiday in, hmm. Let's go with a very long time. (Don't start in on the Evils of My Boss and how he doesn't let me go anywhere, he's all for it, when ever I want a Holiday, things just get busy, you know, and I forget about such things)

Doesn't this all sound nice? I am using my Writing Filter to put it all down, where the thoughts happen, enter the Filter and flow to my hands, and are typed up here, each word a pearl, and in the right order.

Let's try it with the Filter removed, straight from my Brain:

"Ack Ireland cool must write Fiends need Plan for Holiday fly small plane oh no bad idea what have I done New York Hotel tomorrow Kitty Wedding train where dog meds walk Plan Bengals desk papers file claim email gad oops need hotel la meetings talk to guy set up book 10 new messages stop hate blinking blackberry light need pants oops don't call them pants trousers in Ireland going Ireland help need assistant and dalek bag like Boss hope they like me"

See? Kid you not.

So the Plan for tomorrow and no, I can't tell you how I got myself into this is, for my Doctor to fly me in his little plane to the airport, to catch my Big Plane for Ireland. Seems easier than driving. (Flying out of a little airport to Chicago rather than Minneapolis, which was kind of farther away, but the price dropped insanely.)

I hate little planes. In fact, when this Doctor offers to fly Boss anywhere, I throw what can only be described as a Hissy Fit, complete with stomping feet and screaming. But this entire adventure feels a bit like stepping off a cliff anyway, so may as well start as we mean to go on.

Then I go to Ireland. Louisa who owns Raven Books in Dublin, has been helping me. (Small word, she's taking care of EVERYTHING) the Octocon people have been wonderful, I have SO many people all saying come, be with us here, including my own little Spirit Guide from Twitter whose name I can't remember who has offered to be my TOTAL tour guide in the days leading up to the Con. I am meeting up with Fiends Marjorie, Nathilie, Hellie. (The letter I meant to send you all was confirming breakfast Monday week and then suggesting doing, er, stuff. Cool?)

I am no longer worried about clothes. One gets a belt for the pants (STOP calling them Pants, pants there are Panties. This will be important.) And I bought SOCKS, tall ones. It's Ireland. They have clothes there. People will lend you clothes. It will work.

The important things to remember now are things like cords for the camera, so you can see lots of pictures of me bopping about (Hopefully with TROUSERS on) and the right Plug things so I can use my Computer.

I am staying at the Con hotel the entire time. (That's enough info, if you want to stalk me, do your homework)

Looking at my ME notes, as opposed to WORK notes, for the day, I see I also need: Shoes, Cord ack, moist, Octokitty, NOTb fr write and Glamour Magazine (that one I know, they mention Naptown Roller Derby Team this month!) Shower (yes, I do write that down, trust me) and Hot Tub Scale (For Ireland?)

Love and Ireland,
Lorraine

  1. Staying at same hotel so I SHALL stalk you (which make you sound a bit like a flower but, hey, why not?).

Bring your bee seal to sign off cool stuff for fans: I have three long sticks of purple sealing wax for you in my bag already.

You are flying directly to Ireland? But what about Kitty's wedding? Or is that in Ireland too?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Hugs and hugs and hugs. It will be fabulous, as you are, and many things will take care of themselves.
I do all that stuff in my head before traveling (you should hear me about HOTR, well, maybe not, no one should.)

Just go have fun, in the way you know how to do. And come back and tell us all about it.

    ReplyDelete
  3. SO excited about your big adventure!

Yes. They have most anything you may forget to take with you. Yes. The clothing thing also works out (even if you buy cool trousers on you trip that FIT)

Have fun! Post lots of pics! Take us all with you!

  4. The sans-filter part sounds very familiar. You would think, since I mostly only travel for conferences, that I'd have the getting ready part down pat. But I don't.

Wow, this is going to be exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I don't mind you stalking me, Nathilie. Kind of like that idea, really.

Sadly, I am missing Kitty's wedding. And Big Johnnie's. And the Dressage Event that I helped my Trainer work out her routine for.

(Also DRESSED her, in addition to her whip and tall black boots, she now will be wearing leather pants, leather corset, flowing white shirt and a top hat. WIN!)

    (I want to be her)

  6. Hey! I did call the card company (well, actually my personal banker had her assistant to do. Yeah. Some parts of me are spoiled)

I got travelers check, cash. I got a PASSPORT. I made copies of my entire wallet.

Those ducks are all in a row.

The hot tub doesn't need descaling, I think I just wanted to hot tub tonight, and weigh myself tomorrow.

And it may be TMI but I don't much wear, er, PANTS.

  8. Have a wonderful wonderful time. Remember to demand the same service for you that you do for your Boss.

  9. I am planning to stalk you & Nathalie & Hellie, which as we'll all be in the same hotel shouldn't be too difficult, which is good, as my stalking abilities are sadly lacking. I'm gonna stalk Louisa anytime she's around, too.

Breakfast Monday sounds good - I would also muchly appreciate your assistance in celebrating my birthday on Friday. Maybe your Spirit Guide can suggest somewhere good to eat?

I admit, I love the thought of a little plane, but if you don't then I deeply admire your 'jump off a cliff' attitude.

I'd intended to go shopping today - I need a couple of things for Ireland, but had a really crappy day at work yesterday, got very stressed, didn't sleep & have been zombified all day today, so no shopping. Still, what the hell. I once spent a week in Barcelona with no luggage at all.

BTW did you know Cheryl Morgan will be there too? I know she's avfriend of Boss's, not sure how well you know her.

    Five more sleeps till Fiends-In-Dublin!

  10. I have nothing much to add except I laughed out loud for much of this post. I love you Lorraine!!! Have a wonderful trip!!

You deserve this wonderful trip, but I bet around here it will feel like one of nature's forces has gone missing the minute your plane's wheel lift off.

  12. No pants does mean that the 'no trousers falling down' plan is especially important )

    ReplyDelete
  13. So amazing, so wonderful, have THE most incredible time EVER.

    ReplyDelete
  14. VERY important. If I had cute undies it wouldn't matter.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes, purple would work better. Still sparkly, Quiche, that has to happen, okay?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Purple with skulls.
    Like these only purple.

    ReplyDelete
  17. should you consider having a personal assistant (hey, if Rachel Zoe's assistant gets one, so should you!) you'd have a ton of eager applicants!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sitting in Boston Logan airport, waiting for my first flight home (already taken trips on ferry and bus today)(have two flights to get home).

Slightly incoherent - I may have been up drinking with Elizabeth Bear until 4am. It's all a little fuzzy. Well, she isn't, but hopefully you knew what I meant.

Since I have no brain for anything useful and another two hours to waste^H^H^H^H^H do things, I'm going to sort my photos next. I took lots! All will go on Flickr; some may be twittered, and one is likely to show up in Locus next month (!!!). One with me in, taken on my camera but not by me, that is. Apparently doing this sort of thing makes one potentially big-league, and therefore worthy of a group shot in Locus. (!!!)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sounds like my pre-trip chipmunk-on-the-wheel brain. And as I zip the last suitcase (after much angst) it all goes away and is just fun. Good luck in your travels!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Phiala, that's marvelous. You should post a little to Facebook!

    ReplyDelete
  21. It wasn't all alcohol and photographs! (That's my suitemate.)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Not having enough brain to leave a coherent thought, I do hope you enjoy your time there, Ms. Medeadly!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Bless your heart!! It sounds exciting. Oh, take duct tape, just a small roll.

Why is it anytime you plan something ALL other plans by friends will be made for the same day?

    I hope your instructor puts a vid up. I wanna see. The outfit sounds fabulous {hee}

Y'all are gonna have a blast! Have fun.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Duct tape?
That's not going to make customs think you might be planning a little light kidnapping?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Phiala, I am definitely looking forward to hearing/seeing more, if you have time & energy to post at some point.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hope you have the greatest time in Ireland! Well deserved :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wow!! Have fun!! Can't wait to hear stories and see pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wheee! I'll be flying (on a semi-small plane) from little ol' Alabama to Atlanta, and on a definitely-not-tiny plane to Dublin, on Thursday.

Will be in Ireland till the 26th...would love to buy you a drink or meet you for tea (isn't that the thing to do?) one day...! Even if you aren't wearing pants. BUT--wear TROUSERS, as the weather looks a bit chilly.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Please let us know Doctor Dan has transported you safely to Rochester

    ReplyDelete
  30. Marjorie~ Duct tape will go thru customs. My hubby refused to let me bring it on our first Scotland trip and we spent hours in a small Scot town trying to find some duct tape the piece of Brit car bumper my hubby broke off. After that he doesn't complain. I've gone to UK and Euro several times with it now.

However, if you SHOULD decide to kidnap someone it does come in handy :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Where to start...

    Phiala - like WOW woman!

I'm so envious, you are all going to have an awesome time in Ireland.

Marjorie, you've given me a serious case of want for those braces, very very call.

    Happy flying Lorraine.

    ReplyDelete
  32. uh oh, watch out for the avalanche after Boss blogged about you Quiche. He put tears in my eyes. Everyone should have such an appreciative Boss.

  42. Have a great trip Lorraine!! I wish I was going with but I will have to wait until I can afford such a trip, though it is still on the top of our list for honeymoons!

Bring back a few new toons and a list of places and people that I should meet. You know, if you don't have anything better to do.

    You deserve this.
    Live it.
    Love it.
    Return to us safely.

  51. And the prophet spake, saying,

On the morning of the seventh day, if thou hast been consuming of the grape in celebration on the evening of the sixth day, thou shallst brew great quantities of coffee, and it shall be good. And thou willst take manna and toast it in the flames and smother it in chocolate spread, and it will be better.

    Here endeth the lesson.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I never realized scriptures were so sensible about those things.

    ReplyDelete
  53. But what if thy lack of forward planning means that there is no chocolate spread in the house?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ya'll going to have me weepy here. And I'm not EXACTLY leaving YOU.

I really like the way Louisa thinks. Seriouly cannot wait to hang with this women!

  66. And She-who-is-Fabulous is landing already.

  67. Wheeee she's on her way!!! Couldn't be more excited!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Isn't it just, EmilyLiHua P! I know not everyone twitters so I thought I'd link. Did you see the other pictures Q tweeted?

Louisa - Verily, I shall harken unto the Angel of Nutella, and shall add it unto my shopping list.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Only a small one, Jess?
    Queen of Dublin, probably.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Haha, it's just like Quiche to END UP DRIVING THE PLANE, and then it'd be like her to end up QUEEN OF IRELAND. I mean, she makes stuff like that come to reality and then we're like, "Of course ... should this be a surprise to us?"

    Sorry, Marjorie, I don't tweet.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Em, no need to apologize. I just didn't want the non-tweeters to miss out on Q's pictures :-)

    ReplyDelete
  72. She's leaving, on a jet plane...

    Vicarious travel. Excitement.

Have a wonderful flight in the big bird Medeadly. We won't behave while you're gone.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I never realized how well Jack would get along with the Fiends' filthy minds.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I bet it's a real magic wand. Heh, heh. I guess I need to get back on Twitter to keep up.

I was thinking last week that Q is really going to be appreciated when she gets back, and, lo, Boss started in early on that!

And, as I told the offspring a few weeks ago, Life Looks Better Through Nutella Goggles! And as you can see, I buy it in the multi-pack. Mmmm.

And don't say 'suspenders' if you get some to hold up your 'pants!' As Jess says, it's braces and trousers all the way. Remember the Lumberjack Song?

    ReplyDelete

Have you finished the book yet? I loved it! I had to go back and read Equal Rites just to refresh my memory.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Nearly, only about 30 pages left...I've been reading at night until I can't keep my eyes open any longer but not during the day because I don't want to finish...

    ReplyDelete
  93. time travel is never easy.

i was wrecked the whole time i was in floroda, then i come back here and i was just on east coast and wrecked here!

I hope you are having a wonderful time floating around.

    ReplyDelete
  94. You are in Ireland! It's a magical place. Not magical like, oh that dress looks magical on you, but the real old kind. Beautiful and lush, even in barren weather, and full of song and story and long, long roads. Have a wonderful vacation and enjoy your wanderings.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm off to my my second interview now. I have a head cold, so i hope i can keep it together and make a great impression.

  96. Luck Vampi!

Hope your head stays connected to your neck Quiche - I imagine that right now it feels more like its flying away...enjoy

    ReplyDelete
  97. Good Luck, Vampi!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Never been far away enough to have to endure jetlag, actually. I don't yet know the weirdness of it. But wow, Lorraine, you're in Ireland! Awesomeness!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Quiche - I forgot to say - our motto while in Ireland was

    "Left, Left, Left, Left, Left."

Always look that way, and turn into that lane.

I can't believe no one wants to hold your hand.

    ReplyDelete
  100. They write look right in those big letters. And I did. Only to the wrong side of the road...
I tend to abide more with traffic signals when in the UK or Ireland.

    ReplyDelete
  101. You're all assuming we do sensible things like cross the road at pedestrian crossings! Much more fun to wander out into traffic at random, unexpected points and see what happens. Our Empress was [cue understatement] a little startled by the number of people just weaving in and out of cars.

Weather's turned cloudy and colder this morning. Hope you're feeling a bit better today, Nat? Echinacea will be your friend.

    ReplyDelete
  102. PS - Quiche, the hotel reception are waiting on a plug adapter to be returned to them and will have it sent up to you asap. Of course you won't get to read this if you're battery has already run out but you can have fun wondering about psychic hotel staff for a while...

    ReplyDelete
  103. Thanks, Louisa.
Whiskey took care of the throat itchiness already. And I am taking 20 drops of the echinacea every hour. That ought to settle the matter in a jiffy.

    ReplyDelete

Hey there, linked to you from Neil's blog, and because you're in Eire I thought I'd say hello!

I'm in Ireland, and while I can't give you a place to stay (sorry!), I can give you recommendations! If you're looking for crazy wild beautiful places I vote go west, because while Dublin is enchanting for small periods of time, the west, especially Mayo, is teh awesome. The ocean and mountains and even the bog are worth seeing...any time of year, but especially autumn. Anyway, if you get the chance to even go as far as Westport, that's cool. If you can get to Achill, even better, but anywhere in the west really...I live in the middle of nowhere and can hear the sea...

Then again, if you don't want to that is also cool. I hope you enjoy your holiday and have a marvelous time with all us crazy Irish folk!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Hooray for Lorraine being in Dublin!

Hope the echinacea and whisky is doing away with the lurgy Nathalie! I'll do my best to get Thea (and her guitar) into my hand luggage :o)

Can't wait to meet you all (see you again in Marjorie's case!) Monday breakfast & stuff sounds good to me. I'm staying at the con hotel too so there's going to be lots of mutual stalking going on.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I just ordered my New Orleans AFP tickets! Is anyone in the area (like the Texas peeps) going too?

    ReplyDelete
  107. If only we'd planned ahead we could've all had "Stalk A Fiend Today" t-shirts made..

    ReplyDelete
  108. Just so you know, I have licked all the doors & windows, Jess.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Hehe. I locked them. Although Tybalt has licked some of them.
And the grammar Nazis are closing in on us all.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Hehe. I locked them. Although Tybalt has licked some of them.
And the grammar Nazis are closing in on us all.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I did think for a moment that you had some rather strange window cleaning habits, Marjorie.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I just thought it might be part of a protective spell.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Had Tea in a crypt today.

Going looking for serious ghosts on Monday night, Nathilie, Hello and Marjorie. Get ready.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Will you be ignoring the flippant ghosts then?

    ReplyDelete
  115. Serious ghosts?
But I have to leave on Monday afternoon :-(

    ReplyDelete
  116. I am ready! Willing! Chomping at the bit, even.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I'm ready for ghosties! Serious or otherwise. No door licking for me though ;o)

    ReplyDelete
  118. Oh Marjorie didn't realise you had to leave on Monday afternoon :o(

    ReplyDelete
  119. I couldn't get the Tuesday off work.
On the plus side, I arrive on Thursday afternoon - so there should be time for a bit of touristing / hanging out with fiends as well as the con. Pity we don't overlap all the way, though.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Serious ghosts are serious, they quote Shakespeare at you in their best BBC accents.

Huh, I rather liked the image of you licking all your windows Marjorie - sufficiently weirdly Fiendish.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Only serious ones.. No time for anythng else.

New post from ireland up people!!!!!
