Going To See Some Derby!

Here you are, for those of you who missed it, the Famous Weeping Angel Honey! The Birdchick goes into no little detail about our Honey Extracting Adventures over HERE if you would like the Full Story. I can't tell you why Weeping Angel Honey, I will have to just stick with Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time.

Here's a close up of the Little Dear. Don't Blink.

And onto something I know is going to be one of the Best Ideas I Ever Had, tomorrow I am nipping off to see the Naptown Roller Girls bout with Chicago in Indianapolis! It's my first ever live up close and personal Roller Derby Bout!

I suspect one of two things will happen. Either I will become firmly convinced that this is a Bad Idea and Very Much Not a good sport for me to participate in, or I will come back completely convinced this is a GREAT idea, can't possibly be safe but what the heck, life is short and what a Fabulous way to get REALLY FIT and I have never really been a safe person anyway.

I am pretty sure I know which way it's going to go.

Some things you just know, and this has been creeping at me, teasing my heart, weaving dances around me and sending me dreams (the cool kind which may or may not be Night Mares) since I got that darn calender from Joan of Dark a year ago.

(I believe she sent it to my Boss, but only because she didn't know ME at the time, I think it was simply Fates way of hooking us up)

And, you know, I have a score to settle with Skating. Once upon a Time, I was a figure skater, a competitive one. And a good one. Might have been a Really good one. Might have been. Got the rug more or less yanked out from under me at 16, which happens in families, and had to find a different path. Which led HERE and now, so I'm not complaining. Nor blaming anyone, I could have found a way. But therein lies the score to settle. How many times do you get to go back and Do Over?

I want to skate. And I've never forgotten how it feels to skate. Skate hard. To fall and get up, again and again. Competing with yourself, and seeing just how far you can go, and how good you can be.

Yeah. I want to skate again.

Wheels this time. Life's like that. There's a reason for everything in this funny old world.

So I'm going to see some Derby this weekend!

Here's Good Night from Bengals Venus and Magic. Actually, it was this morning, but they aren't particular about sleeping hours, so who's counting?

Just me. And the hours until it's time to see my first Bout.

Love and Derby,
Lorraine

  3. Have BIG FUN.

I know that if you fall on the Nice Ass you'll just get up and go again, so I expect a new tiara/crown for you soon.

That's what Derby Queens get, right?

Also- bring leftover bail money from Nola. Might be handy.

Winter Storm Warnings are up here but by the time it starts I WILL NOT BE HERE!!!!!!

  9. And if you are lucky you might get stuck there on account of the weather!

    ReplyDelete
  10. But if Q gets stuck, doesn't that put Boss at risk of being eaten by ravening airlines, or deprived of tea?

Looking forward to hearing about fiends meeting- I think I must have missed Notanyani/Andrea's tweet

  18. I remember what that rug ripped out from underneath moment as a teenager felt like, and its power to change paths in life. That said, all the work you put into skating (or anything else, really) in the past is still within you, and you'll be able to pull from those skills in the future... because, it really is clear which way this is going to go ;)

    Have an astoundingly good trip!

  19. Hmm. Just looked at the rules for Derby... might make some sense. I'll have to watch a match and see. Mind, no way in heck would I ever try it. But I might end up a fan...

    Have a wonderful trip, Medeadly!

  27. Off to be the Pocket Lady at the Waldorf School Christmas fair. Some of you saw the costume at HOTR when I transformed it into Lady Luck.

No skellies in the pockets now, though, just tiny toys and cool rocks...

Would love to watch the roller derby...what time will it be streamed?

  28. Wish I could watch derby today but we'll be heading up to San Francisco to see Coraline the musical! So excited!

I saw from AFP's tweet that she's in SF but she didn't respond when i asked her if she wanted to do a FoodPorn interview....Boss made it sound so easy at HOTR when he suggested, "You should take amanda out for foodporn!" Well, no kidding! ;-)

    Breakfast, shower, CORALINE!

  32. Hello Sally, hello all!

I woke up this morning to find freezing fog outside, and no Internet, (landline) phone or (presumably - I haven't checked) TV inside.
And can't get enough signal for phone-Internet downstairs.

Good thing I wasn't planning a day slumped in front of the TV watching junk & idly surfing the net...

Did JoanofDarkKnits & her team win last night?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Good Lord Marjorie - everything has really frozen in England!

    Enjoy your quiet day!

  34. Good Morning!!!!

I am all awake here, but so far, the only one. I am also the only one who managed the entire after party with no alcohol so I'm thinking I MIGHT be a little livelier than the rest, poor dears.

I am thinking Joan of Dark is going wake up and know the answer to the question she asked me last night after doing shots: What's Patron?

Oh, Naptown won, both bouts. They skated really well, and they work as a team. I'll do a proper post later on things, when I can do pics too.

Not sure how many rumours you've heard about what, but they were all true. And those girls hit HARD. I am coming back here, on each of their B'days.

Yes. I am home. Have you been behaving yourselves while I was gone?

You see, I've been hanging out with Derby Girls all weekend, and I have some new ideas.

You're going to love this new adventure. You will get used to the pain. And you may find yourself in places you never thought you would go.

    But I'll be with you.
