Snow Day Part 2...

Here is the sad face of someone about to go out into the COLD and snow to try and do a bit of digging out. It would actually be Adventure Land, and quite fun except the windchill is down around -10 to -15 and the temp skulking around Zero. The wind puts a damper on Adventure Land.

The Gentlemen Who Plow come with their Big Trucks and Plows and Shovels for me, but they can't do much with Prius IN the driveway. I don't mind the workout bit of shoveling, but I know myself well, and know this isn't going to happen regular, hence The Gentlemen Who Plow.

I started with a Broom, which, I have to tell anyone thinking of attempting something like this, is the COMPLETELY wrong tool for the job. I waded out to my Little Shed, and true wonder, there was a Shovel in there. As you may have suspected, the Spooky House does not yet have a garage. In time tho, in time. It did have a Shovel, which is progress. (It needs a toaster too, which anyone following the Blackened Frying Pan Toast Saga yesterday will recall)

Looks lovely, doesn't it? Don't be fooled. And don't try and come see me up those steps for a while.

Here is my Artists Rendering of a shoveled path to my back door. It's like a real Path, only not as, er, passable.

AND one to my Garbage House. Very necessary, one does not wish garbage to pile up until Spring. We had a path to the Hot Tub, and indeed, I spent a nice time last night there with some friends last night, but it seems to be gone now. I'm done in tho, and shall wait until someone else wants to come over and Hot Tub. We'll see how badly they want this, I'm thinking.

Prius. On the street! The Gentlemen Who Plow had come in the night and done a quick pass up the drive TO Prius, so all I had to do was clean it off, and shovel thru the street snow that had been shoved in at the bottom.

Yes, all I had to do. I then used the Watch For Traffic and Floor It method, and we got thru.

Not that I am going anywhere. Nope. Staying IN for the day now. By the fire, in my bed that turns into a couch. It is possible that my Glued Together Concussion Head was not QUITE up for this Adventure.

But I'm glad that it happened.

Love and More Snow and COLD,
Lorraine

Be gentle now with that head. Bravo for getting Prius out, but there's nowhere to go anyway, is there?

Toasters at Target for cheap, around here.

Quiet, rainy day here.

At 12:38 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Why dig out the car and move it to the street if you're not going anywhere?

And, rest, woman! You are Injured!

At 12:39 Blogger dabbler said...

Bah. Forgot tick trick.

At 12:46 Blogger EmilyOliveP said...

A broom? For snow? Interesting. For sure.

At 12:46 Blogger Beez said...

So- Prius is in street but now you have to get 'er back in driveway right?
Snow plowing rules or is your street done?
Someone else should do it, because you are FrankenQuichie right now.

REST THAT HEAD!!! REST!!

I'm at work, but there's a space heater here and possibly hot chocolate so I will make do.

Not having five feet of snow and a zillion below wind chill I have no excuse to not be here.

You, on the other hand, are Concussion Girl and should REST.

At 12:59 Blogger Marjorie said...

I was wondering why you enter Prius out now, and at mercy of plow-related tickets, but if you wanted it out, I'm glad it is!

Take it easy now. Glued together head does not heal overnight (sadly)

At 13:15 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

It's more that I wanted it out for tomorrow, didn't want to have to try and get it out early, see? If I needed help, or it got stuck, I wanted to be able to have time to deal with that.

Prepared I am, assistants think of these things.

Snow tickets ARE in force, but I've got it down now. It's only enforced between 2am and 6am Nov to April and has NOTHING to do with snow or how much snow there is or is not.

Bwetween 2am and 6am you have to park on the even side for even days, and the odd for odd. ONLY those hours tho. Rest of the time, anywhere.

No towing either at least. Only a $15 ticket.

Stupidest winter parking rules EVER.

At 13:17 Blogger Marjorie said...

I see. I knew there must be a good reason for it, just couldn't think of it off the top of my head!

At 13:31 Blogger meganagitor said...

so. i exist.
i'm just not the best at existing.

regardless, if i lived closer i would totally remake the hot tub path for you.

i am odd, in that i hate cold weather, but i like shoveling snow?
so. shoveling in order to obtain heated hot tubby goodness seems like a fair deal in my mind.

and i love the bengal snowsuits [from earlier].
i decided to be a bit of a torturer and got reindeer antlers for my kitty. but she HATES it. ha. so it's only as punishment for when she beats up the christmas tree.
it works out, i think?

sigh. it's past my bedtime.
but i felt bad for being absent for so long.

stay warm lady! and try and keep your head in one piece pleeeaaassee <3

Concussions are odd injuries. Unless they are serious enough that they have to keep you awake when you want to sleep, then the most important thing is to try to avoid a second knock to the head before the first one is healed.

When I was younger I managed to space them out a couple of years apart. And turned out imperfectly normal...

Still, resting up is unlikely to be a bad thing for you, and Neil has said he can get his own tea while you heal.

Wish you were here. There NOLA temperature made it down to 43 degrees today. You could help pick up the pieces of my soggy heart when my crush girl leaves for good in two weeks. I'm knitting her an octopus; she left her car in my parking lot and will be picking it up on Friday. Then, off she goes, out into the world.

Fly, fly bird of my heart.

take care o' that head, do.

and crikies! we've got those temps, but that much snow over several weeks. very glad we are not travelling anywhere this winter. and i've started helping to clear snow from the neighborhood skating pond (it's not quite a rink). coming from southern climes, i'm fascinated with the idea of people making their own ice rinks/ponds/patches.

been wrapping up work projects here and this weekend Made An Effort to make the home look holidayish. i think it's working.

Beez, i didn't finish my ice candles from weeks ago. staked the containers one snowy evening and now they're all stuck together. :(

At 23:48 Blogger Na said...

stacked the containers, not staked. tho' that sounds interesting, too.

At 00:39 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I had my eyes on a skull toaster for you but the distributor (a German company) does not have it anymore...
:(

All this shovelling sounds like excellent work out, although not necessarily the best thing to do when one is concussed. Just saying.

At 02:03 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Bloody hell its cold where you live Lorraine. I had to go and put a jumper on reading about your adventures. Brrrrrr.

I'm glad that you decided to stay in and let your poor head heal.

Na, or Beez, what are ice candles? Are they tubes of ice with wicks in them?

At 02:26 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Hey - Minnesota was just on our evening news...the collapse of the football stadium roof in particular.

At 02:50 Blogger Marjorie said...

Morning Sally!

I wondered about ice-candles, too

I found
this but I like the idea of a candle inside an ice lantern even more. I wonder if it could be done, maybe for outdoor use somewhere really cold, so it didn't melt

At 02:52 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Marjorie...hello there! Has your snow gone now?

At 03:33 Blogger Marjorie said...

Oh yes, the snow only hung around for a day, and it's got much milder now so the really heavy hoar frost has gone too.

How are you?

At 04:25 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Orright...recovering from another trek into the hospital to visit the Mater. I really need a "Beam Me Up" device to cut down on the traveling time!

At 08:50 Blogger Na said...

yesh, ice lanterns is a better term. Beez pointed me to directions last year, and i may have modified from that:

* fill a medium-sized plastic container (ca 1/2-L) about 1 inch deep with water
* set outside to freeze
* then set a plastic cup in the center, weighing down it down with rocks, and pour more water around it, so there'll be a center hole for a tealight
* set outside to freeze again

last year i set seven of them along the front of our townhome unit. very pretty!

At 08:52 Blogger Na said...

oh Sally! i was just catching up on comments last night, your last note here reminded me - sorry you're ma's having such a hard time just now. here's wishes for her speedy improvement!

At 08:54 Blogger Na said...

argh. it is absolute dark outside, but i must wake the monsters and persuade them that bundling up and trudging through this to school for the day is a good idea.

At 09:24 Blogger Cecily said...

So I haven't read anything and have no clue when I will be able to...but I glanced at what emails I had and i do one little move from one state to another and I miss an opportunity to be Quiche's wife...AND I'm sick! Man this sucks.

At 09:34 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

GOOD MORNING!!!!!

Hoo ya! Cold here. And I haven't even gone OUT yet! My head feels ok tho, so we shall try this. Not exactly now tho.

Sally, very sorry, I know that's hard.

Cecily, you picked the wrong time to move, but I'm still happy for you, don't you have a bath tub now??? Good lord, that is way cooler than being my wife!

Wendy, Crushes come easily, they'll be another one along any day, not worth a soggy heart over, truly. I'm not the best with such things tho, being Aquarian, we move on FAST. You live in NOLA, it's all over that town!

It's a School Canceled Day! If I went to school still I'd be happy, but I am going to work. Which I am not UNhappy about. I like it there.

At 09:45 Blogger Cecily said...

I DO! I DO! I DO!

Heh that is excitement over my new soaking tub, which I have already used twice. But it could be wifely excitement too. ;-)

This move has been hell. I have moved a LOT in my life, this is by far one of the most challenging ones.

At 09:55 Blogger Marjorie said...

Na, those sound much prettier than the ones I found!

At 09:57 Blogger Marjorie said...

Also, Good Morning, Lorraine - hope your drive to work is uneventful and that your day is not too stressful. How is the head this morning?

At 10:10 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

The drive will be fine. In MN, we are pretty darn prepared for such things, we SUSPECT in the fall that winter is coming you know...

Head's doing good so far! Nothing too exciting for it today tho, all brain work, and my BRAIN is fine.

Have to brush my hair tho now, which is NOT exciting.

At 10:13 Blogger Cecily said...

Take it easy on that beautiful head of yours!

At 10:20 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

LOW braids today, very easy on the head.

At 10:34 Blogger Na said...

Marjorie - finally clicked through. yes, i'd say they're prettier, and a whoooole lot simpler to make!

Fablor, glad you're head is improving. take care!

we had a strange sunrise this morning, at least, nothing i've seen before. scattered clouds all over the dome were pale but vibrant pink, and all the sky showing through was a deep aqua colour.

At 11:33 Blogger Jess said...

Mister says with a concussion you know whether or not your brain is fine within 24 hours. (His brother had a rather bad one when they were kids, I guess.) So I've no doubt your brain is fine. But boy are you fun on codeine. :D

OMG WE ARE TRAVELLING. Aieee! What do I do? What do I do? House sitter arranged. Floors vacuumed. Final laundry Wednesday. Change sheets. Remember Majorie's poster. Polish walls. Spit-shine carpets. Bags! Throw things in bags. Pants shirts pants socks bras pants more pants pants Christmas presents pants. What else?? I'm forgetting something. For the love of fod, what is it?! HELP.

At 11:44 Blogger Marjorie said...

Socks, sweaters, tickets, possibly Valium to cope with the stress of flying

books for the journey

At 11:49 Blogger Jess said...

I'm thinking I'll just chug a bottle of wine before we go. That'll go over well with airport security.

At 11:59 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Jess, don't you need some trousers to go with all those pants?? It's cold over there!

At 12:06 Blogger Jess said...

Goodness me, you're right. To be honest, it's a litte nippy without them right now.

At 12:37 Blogger Marjorie said...

That's right, DG, spoil ALL my fun ;-)

At 13:38 Blogger Jess said...

She had to go and ruin the surprise...

I'm sitting here trying to think of something witty to tell you...my eyes keep going to the blue sky outside though and telling me I should be out in the sun, with a book to read.

I think I might obey my eyes for once!

At 18:14 Blogger Jane said...

Yes, rest. Takes longer to recover from injuries than one would think.

Feeling dull and tired from a fruitless (mostly) day of shopping.

Kittens have caught a tiny tiny cricket and are cooing at it...poor cricket.

FINAL TOMORROW OOOOOHHHHH

Having been homeschooled since mid-fourth grade, I have never. Had. A final.

At 21:34 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Good Evening!

My brain IS fine, and I won't deny being pretty darn entertaining on codeine, but alas, I think I can do without it now mostly. My head hurt by the end of the day but I rested for a while and it feels better.

Want to get back to working out.

Let's see:

Emily: Finally!

(See? Still funny!)

Considering a bit of travel for Xmas, which I never do, but what the heck, might as well join in and DO something for a change.

SO, how does this Xmas thing work? Anything I should know?

At 21:50 Blogger Kitty Cat said...

Why the HECK do i not have a snowsuit on and am digging nicely out of the driveway, the hell with the plow dudes....

This new lead off photo of you is delicious, Benson.

At 21:59 Blogger ariandalen said...

Emily: Don't sweat it. It's just a long, comprehensive test. Just another test.

Xmas: Feast, presents, laughter, hopefully with people you want to be with, including family. Depending on where you are, maybe fireworks, though that's more often at New Year's. Maybe some eggnog, but it doesn't have to have alcohol in it.

Well there you go, the conditions in the Us were on our news again, and Minnesota starred!.

I do hope you're all keeping safe and warm.

At 04:55 Blogger EmilyOliveP said...

Wow Lihua Emily, way to get freakin' sick the morning of the final. Oh well, Ima drag my little self through it. Canceling work at the chocolate place, though. No chocolate should be poisoned by these hands.

At 08:49 Blogger vampi said...

li em, i think it'd a right of passage to take a test when ill.n you can check that one off on you life experiences list ;)

At 09:37 Blogger vampi said...
