My Very Own Office Picture Feature...

I have been getting a Rash of requests (yes, that was the adjective of choice) lately for pictures of Boss's workspace, or writing space, or Office. Quite a lot. Oddly enough. He has several, and we have taken shots and sent them off into the world, but no one has asked ME for any pictures of my office, nor has decided that Assistants work space be featured anywhere.I'd like to change that, and feature MY office tonight here.

It would be lovely, and indeed I start every day with such a plan, if it were a thing of beauty and neatness, but it simply isn't possible. Or at any rate, I have not achieved it YET. It is, however, efficient, and it works. The file cabinet there is where the current files go. The archives take up half the attic, and are in tubs. I mention this as Kitty and I have a Plan for that attic this summer, and you will no doubt be visiting.

Here's another shot I like, as you can see I waste no space, and use under the desk as well as on top. Sometimes I work down there. It's very peaceful under my desk. I like it there. Often no one can find me.

We get a lot of books. Kind of like it rains in the Amazon. Or the Birdchick likes birds. Or Bengals are fairly active cats, if you see my point. They come in, and go to this spare desk, and every so often we have a grand sorting and they go off to the To Be Read Shelf, or one of the libraries.

And there you have it. MY office, featured in a full colour spread, here first. Where it all happens. How things happen. And what let's me make things happen. The Chair of the Princess of NO. No doubt, it will be in magazines all over the world shortly, but, you saw it here first. I will be taking questions, having a Q&A so, please, feel free. All media requests will be considered, but interviews will, of nessesity, be short.

I have a lot of work to do.

Love and MY Office,
Lorraine

One of the last vinyls I bought was Adam Ant - forget which one. first Tim Curry, and then he made makeup on a guy sexxy!

I need to order some lavender plants from Goodwin Creek so they have a chance to get rooted before it hits 100F.

I wanted to reply to some funny and interesting posts, but I believe my brain is in neutral right now. I could be wrong, for obvious reasons.

I probably should have checked I had some risotto rice before deciding to prepare risotto, and starting the rest of the ingredients, shouldn't I?

At 15:08 Blogger Marjorie said...

Fluffy,
You're coherant and on topic - surely that has to count as at least being in 2nd or 3rd?

At 15:20 Blogger Adri said...

Marjorie, now you just have to make rice pilaf instead! (At least there's a lot less stirring)

Mmmm. Rice pilaf.

**goes to dig around in the pantry**

Moving furniture *would* be great. esp if it doesn't bite you *and* it would do as it's told.

At 16:04 Blogger Marjorie said...

Pliaf. Yes, thats what it was...

(Memo to self, now need to buy 2 kinds of rice...)

At 16:06 Blogger Adri said...

I'm making pilaf now, too, Marjorie. Mine has purple onion, artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach. With dill and coriander to season.

Thank you all for good thoughts however they were to no avail. The officer, to give him his due, was very nice and knew a lot more about the necessary paperwork than I or, evidently, my Bolivian. So I believe she is now on her way back to Frankfurt airport and lord knows what will happen there - I am recognising the limitations of my influence in this situation and going to pour myself a large glass of wine before retiring with my book (just started Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned and liking it muchly so far). Enjoy your risottos, pilafs and misc. other repas. Night all

sounds yummy.

Mine had onion, leek, mushrooms and a little bit of chicken.

On which happy note, I shall leave you all, and go to bed.
Good Night.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that.
(I read your comment after posting mine, Louisa)

Oh, just remembered a question from earlier - I am just a little way into the De Lint book and haven't figured out what's going on yet!

At 16:40 Blogger Adri said...

Fluffy, which de Lint are you reading?

At 17:01 Blogger Fluffy said...

The new one - The Mystery of Grace. And it certainly has started out mysterious.

At 17:56 Blogger Dragonsally said...

I'm on the waiting list at the library for that one Fluffy.

Louisa, what a bummer about your Bolivian. will she be able to try again from Franfurt if all paperwork is done?

Pterry's luggage would be very handy for moving...just load everything into it, no trucks needed!

I still have to wait a few months for Coraline. Apparently it is opening her in Aus on my birthday. A nice birthday present, but I would have liked to see it sooner.

Nat - I loved your postcard story.

At 18:08 Blogger Jane said...

Fluffy - I'm the one who asked about the de Lint book, wanted to know what you thought. I loved the beginning and IMO it is one of those books where knowing nothing in advance is a good thing :-)

We're having farfalle with arugula, sundried tomatoes and goat cheese.

And some kind of cocktail from DH the former bartender, but it won't be absinthe - might be a Sazerac, though! Must go see...

At 18:15 Blogger Jane said...

I've been showered with de Lint, I checked out Widdershins and The Mystery of Grace from library, bought Memory and Dream, was loaned the Onion Girl, the Circle of Cats and Medicine Road.

I like a book backlog, can you tell?

At 18:28 Blogger Fluffy said...

I thought you wrote that you just showered with De Lint and I thought, "Well, that can't be right. Unless you're MaryAnn."

Sigh. I think I'll go make myself some real oatmeal for dinner. With diced apples. And cinnamon. BRB.

What a tasty bunch of comments...
I love DeLint, but haven't invested in the new one yet. Have most of what he's written, and he's one of the writers, along with Boss, of course, that I regularly recommend to people. And the Charles Vess collaborations are so beautiful. Jane, I envy you the experience.

And risotto/pilaf sounds great. i am munching my way through a grocery store salad bar salad, with very tasty bits. Family have gone off to run sound for a concert featuring Celtic rock band Tempest, and an opening act, Creaking Tree String Quartet. Now, I love Tempest, but this is in a 200 seat venue which is the chapel for an exclusive boys' school. Gorgeous oak pews, lovely small balconies with organ pies, small alter area, er, stage. Fabulous stained glass, but medievelesque and modern.
Tall lead singer likes to leap straight up. All I can picture, in addition to too loud, beastly hot, crowded beyond capacity, is Leif bashing his head on the bottom of the pipe balcony.

So, after several conversation with the person who booked this probable disaster and who declined to change anything...I decided that even if it goes well, I will be entirely too snarky and miserable to enjoy myself. And DH has enough equipment carrying hands, so here I am, quietly and peacefully at home.

Wow...way long, that!

At 18:56 Blogger dabbler said...

Rats...that's organ pipes, not pies, and 'both' medieval and modern' Preview button, huh.

At 19:00 Blogger Dragonsally said...

The thought of headbutting pies is funny - headbutting pipes, not so much!

Chatty day, I see. I've been out and about, doing the daughter thing all day. Love mum... but long day.

Siri, hope the flood waters keep at bay. I lived in Des Moines in '93 (grew up there too, mostly). I'm sure you remember that one. Eleven days without running water. "Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink." Makes for good stories now, but definitely not fun at the time.

Snagged another edition of archy and mehitabel today. A couple of gems from it for you, Lorraine:

"the honey bee is sad and cross
and wicked as a weasel
and when she perches on you boss
she leaves a little measle"

"the bees got their
governmental system settled
millions of years ago
but the human race is still
groping"

I'm itching to pick up my drop spindle now that I've been reminded of it (blush). But I haven't managed to do any of the other things I meant to do this weekend. Did start another attempt at a french press cozy. But no alpaca shawl or Firefly sweater. Where do the weekends go???

At 19:43 Blogger Phiala said...

Apparently I'm not just one but TWO books behind on reading de Lint. Hooray!

I have accomplished this weekend's round of activities. Now I would like a couple of days off before Monday. How's Dan coming on the stretchy time? Anyone heard?

But I have tiny cute baby lettuces, just today. *grin* The peas will be up shortly, I'm sure. But if it's already in the 80s, there won't be much of a crop from either, I'm afraid.

OSS - where did you live? I was in DM, but my parents were in WDM, so I could shower regularly.

Something the rest of the fiends don't know about me - I never mastered the art of flushing a toilet with a bucket of water.

At 20:03 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Siri - are you keeping dry? Not getting flooded?

Buckets of water don't really flush that well - I have discovered this. Just shows how much water is used with a flush.

Fascinating topic?

Siri - I lived across from Vet's Hospital. I remember collecting rain water to fill up the tub for washing water. So incredibly sore after that. Also standing in line in a parking lot to get drinkable water from the National Guard. That sure felt surreal. Hope that none of us have to do that again...
