Whole Lot Going On Up There....

Since I do seem to be spending Friday night here at the Spooky House, cleaning it, in preparation for people who are coming to clean it tomorrow, I might as well go all out and share this adventure with you. It wasn't that the place was all that bad, but one thing leads to another and another.....

Boss gave me this present today! It was a surprise gift from him, he had seen it in a shop the other day and couldn't figure out if it was wonderful or exactly what, but he knew it didn't belong in his house. Funny thing was I had also seen it a few weeks before and thought the same thing (tho I knew I KNEW it belonged in my house) and the nice lady who owned the shop mentioned that I loved it, and so he got it for me. Again, I love it. The dinning room seems to have ended up full of strange gilt things. The just wander in, and there they are. (if you have lost any, this is where they go)

Here's a close up of the Angels. Or one of them. There are only the two, tho it does seems as tho there might be more at any time. It's that sort of piece. Kind of a cool mirror too. No matter WHAT you look like, it simply doesn't matter. You can't compete with it, and will not end up looking at yourself.

Magic's room has been a source of irritation to me for some time. I've never really done anything with it. First it was sort of a closet. Then it was the room where the Fosters lived. But Magic has been there some months, and tho it has had what he needs in there, it isn't much of a place to hang out, which I find myself doing more and more, as he gets more social. SO we had a talk about it, and he told me he wanted window treatments and Underworld Posters.

The windows aren't done yet. I only THOUGHT I had bought enough fake flowers and vines. I want a jungle of the things, but the posters were easy enough, just gathered them up, and up they went. (No, actually, that wasn't all I had in the house. REALLY liked those movies I did. Magic can do with out the signed one.)

If I had known where things were going, I would never had got such a deep rich long purple carpet. Zero to a mess in a day. I thoughtfully added a large white carpet today, which Magic thought sucked until he noticed that the canned food and chicken bits showed up much clearer on it, and the Ball on a string practically bounces. At any rate, the room is way nicer to be in, and that, works for me. It's a proper room now, and not a space where he stays.

Sometimes order is good. Did I mention I love my new Mirror?

Love and Spring and Clean Houses,
Lorraine

Great Mirror!

And you are in the Losers on a Friday Night on Their Computer club too yes? :)

Ben's in bed, must see what child-inappropriate TV I have to watch.

Love what you have done with the place! (Fabulous mirror by the way)

I, on the other hand, have indulged in too many distilled spirits and watched my daughter defy gravity once again in her circus show.

Yoga is either going to be great or totally suck tomorrow morning. This remains to be seen, and I am about to retire to a horizontal posture.

Happy new Magic space and mirror!

At 23:32 Blogger vampi said...

lol, child inappropriate tv, that's almost everything now. they should give macguyver a "reboot" hot guy who fixes things with duct tape? i'd so watch it. and i'm sure there is a dict tape fetish group out there, so it's a guaranteed hit.

that mirror is so you. i do like how the frame is bigger than the actual mirror. i would be somewhat obsessed with finding the right word to bring it to life.

hoory for framed posters. i still have many to be framed. i have 5 nice ones all measured, i just need to find frames.

aha! a Lady gaga mirror!
it is gilt-eriffic.
I know you have wanted to do something with the spare room for some time, glad to see it happenng.

Its a WOW mirror - to be looked at, not looked in.

Magic's room is looking awesome. Are you sure you shouldn't be an interior decorator?

And I just lurve Mim and Venus sitting aristocratically so in that photo.

Vampi -'duct tape fetish group'. Thank Fods I didn't have a mouthful of tea when I read that.

Love the mirror and love that it overshadows any reflection. Why am I still up?

Night Fiends.

Love the way you explained the mirror.....
Can't compete with it....

Thought of you tonite.
i was in my living room and found a bee crawling up my pant leg..i screamed. Not the cute "eek" scream,
i SCREAMED!
Like being stabbed in the shower...
My company was quite confused as i stripped off my pants and ran half naked into the other room.
--maybe one day i'll be as brave as you.
but i'd settle for being less embarrassingly myself.
Still i giggle.

At 00:35 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Bobbina, that was very funny...I mean, I am sorry for you, but it was funny....

I think I ought to be in the club, Chantrelle, but too busy doing window treatments for my cat tho, hee-hee..She does make me laugh tho...

If I wasn't so tired, I would go sit in Magics room. I should go to bed. Wait, I am in bed. Why am I typeing???

My night of clubbing is over...sleep now.

I love this idea of a place where Lost Gilt Things Go. And that Magic's room is feels like a "proper room", too.

At 00:50 Blogger Na said...

Lorraine, are those poster frames anything particular? I have some movie posters I'd like to put up, but would like to find frames which would allow me to switch out posters from time to time, vs getting 'em permanently mounted/framed/etc.

At 00:53 Blogger Maure said...

Better by far than a place where lost guilt goes. That would be my apartment.

At 01:40 Blogger Rubius said...

I love the mirror, very Gaga indeed (I have to admit that I've been listening to a lot of her lately). It's definitely Fabulous. Magic's room looks nice too.

At 02:00 Blogger Lexocat said...

Mirror! Congrats.

Many thanks to all of you who well-wished my headache away. It seems to have worked.

Still, feeling better or not, one must go to bed.

At 02:31 Blogger Marjorie said...

love the mirror - you & Boss are right, it belongs in your house. And Magic's room is great, too - It sounds as though he was confident and interested enough to come out and investigage pretty much straight away, as well, which when you consider what he was like when he arrived is the most amazing of all.

I was watching a documntary last night about bees and the bee-sickness - v. interesting (and sad) - also had the somewhat surreal sight of 100's of beesuited beekeepers marching on parliament (campaigning against overuse of pesticides, I think)

I should relaly get out of bed and start the day, now. Your post reminds me I have some pictures to take to the framer, and cleaning to do..

At 02:31 Anonymous kali_licious said...

That mirror is wonderful..in an over the top kind of way. Perfect for that room too..I love the idea of a room where strange gilt things go. And Venus is showing it off to lovely effect in that photo. (Nice singing bowl btw) And Magic's room looks much more homey..he has good taste in interior decorating.;)

Love the ticky box.
Love to sleep.

G'night!

At 05:37 Blogger spacedlaw said...

He's going to have a field day with those dangly bits about the window...

So you have a magic mirror.
Be careful of the world it reflects, lest it spills out. Never trust an angel: They are shifty as hell and end to think that, just because they have cute butts, they can get away with just about anything. Bit like cats, except they don't purr.

At 06:13 Anonymous Anonymous said...

My favorite is the electric bengal lamp in the last picture. Every spooky house should have one.
Best,
Billy

At 06:59 Blogger Jess said...

Wow! I love it. It is a monstrosity of marvellous. :)

Magic's room lookin' good! All lookin' good.

Love that last picture -- Venus is good at being a conversation piece.

At 07:05 Blogger Unknown said...

Somehow I think that if you look into that mirror you might not see yourself looking back out. I'm sure you're quite safe: in house with cats nothing is permitted to be more dangerous, more beautiful or more magical that The Cat.

At 07:43 Blogger Phiala said...

Hooray for spontaneous thank-you presents, redecorating, and cats.

My house is not decorated, except with piles of dog fur. Instead, stuff is randomly distributed. I live in a house full of boys, and, well. (No offense to other boys who are good at such things; mine is not, nor does he ever put anything away.)

At 09:08 Blogger Jane said...

Love the mirror, but beware of the angels - they may be weeping angels.

Also love the Bengal lamp :-)

Don't Blink.

At 09:37 Blogger Siri said...

Starting to think about maybe getting ready to go to a new farmer's market this AM. Mostly trying to avoid going to a homeowners association lunch today. I am expending so much mental and emotional energy at work right now that I don't want to waste any of it on people I don't particularly like. I didn't move here because of the people in the neighborhood - they aren't my friends. So, I'm going to go to an annoymous place, and wander until they go to lunch.

In the wind.

At 09:41 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Thank you Jane, but I am more powerful than you can possibly know. Don't, for Fods sake TELL anyone this.

A Magic Mirror was just the next logical step. Had to happen.

Magic likes his new room. Or not. Hard to tell. He peed twice on his futon. But, hey, it's been more, it's been less. I still like it.

Today I need:

Something to lounge on that can get wet.
100 feet of super strength screening
A book case
one lovely bunch of grapes

First work tho.

At 09:46 Blogger Siri said...

Somthing to lounge on that can get wet - I recommend one of those pool loungers - they blow up, have backs, and places to put your drink. Who cares if there's no water to float them in.....

At 10:03 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Siri. Most things here have claws. Things that blow up have a very short life span.

Think big. Today is all about possibilities. I want a couch.

Missing my first horse show today, but the cards fall where they do. No point in closing the barn door after the milk is spilt.

At 10:13 Blogger Lysandwr said...

quick hello on my way to bed after a short work day, er, night, er morning?

Anyhoo....

Lorraine--they make sorta foam versions of the blow up item Siri described. Much more cat appropriate, and often surprisingly sturdy/comfortable.

House looks lovely, unsurprisingly. I am envious green (as opposed to curious yellow.)

sleep now....more picture perusing later.

At 10:15 Blogger Lysandwr said...

Or....(just remembered this) Not sure if you were ever at my place on Oak Grove (by Loring Park) but I had a wee foam rubber couch w/washable slipcover that was a lot of fun (think Linda Smith gave it to me, upon reflection)...perhaps that is more the direction you were thinking....

At 10:17 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Hmmm, maybe a poolside lounger with one of those really thick cushions?

Love the mirror - and it does fit in so well!!

At 10:18 Blogger spacedlaw said...

On the other hand (or paw), poor Magic has been declawed. And inflatable chair might work in his room.

At 10:27 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Oh Nathilie! I can only picture Magic's little brain if I put an inflatable chair in there! Remember he thought the CARPET sucked. And claws or no, that cat can take OUT a roll of paper towels.

Not foam. Couch. Here:

http://www.maxfurniture.com/images/full/149-106-RA-4194low.jpg

And yes, I will be adding the waterfall. Why not? Think BIG today.

At 10:28 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I want that house.

At 10:48 Blogger Marjorie said...

the bengals would love the waterfall, too, I'm thinking. That couch looks good - and washable - what's not to like?

At 10:50 Blogger Jane said...

Gorgeous couch. Magic (and you) are going to have a great room. Sanctuary for you and the cat. Doesn't get much better than that.

At 11:18 Blogger Kitty Cat said...

spacedlaw & maure, you girls were in touch with your writer muse. guilt and angel asses....

At 11:18 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Actually, the couch is for the other porch, Venus and Mim's, Magic porch is different, and too small for a couch. He gets a Really cool tree tho, that Hans will build for me....

And I can't ACTUALLY get that couch, well, I could, but seems kind of spendy for a porch.

At 11:20 Blogger spacedlaw said...

More like the writer muse is in touch with me. So much in touch that she actually batters me around the pesky thing (and she knows how to hit where it doesn't show too).

At 11:21 Blogger spacedlaw said...

What about a rocking chair? I thought that was traditional for a porch.

At 11:51 Blogger Marjorie said...

Do you have an IKEA anywhere nearby? I seem to recall that they have v. cheap wicker arnchairs and couches, and you could then add your own cushions.

At 12:03 Blogger gaypet said...

Oh, very nice mirror! And the couch is extra fab. Do the girls claw furniture? The wicker may not survive. Of course my cats claw everything. And the dogs chew things up. But it may fair better at your place.

I like "think big" as the mantra for today.

Thanks to all of you lovelies who have offered to help me move. I think we have it covered and should be OUT by tomorrow night. I will facebook later. Right now what I need is a night out soon. ;)

At 12:26 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Ben got himself dressed today (motivated by playing Wii) and came out in his Scary Trousers shirt that we got from Kitty at WonderCon. I will send pics :D

Not sure what the plans are today but I think it's supposed to include wine tasting!

And that waterfall would be a lovely addition to spooky house, good call! :P

At 12:32 Blogger vampi said...

would it be a spooky water fall? maybe the water would go up and not down?

At 13:00 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

The Benagls and I have a deal. They have ONE chair they can scratch the heck out of, and they leave the others alone. Kid you not.

I need something I can LOUNGE on, I don't like sitting in chairs.

Yes, the waterfall will go up, and it will be filled with piranha...

Just got a call from my next door neighbors, Mim, the stupid fur butt, had got the porch door open and was gone walkabout, and they got her in, but could not find Venus.....

All well, except for two very freaked out Kitties....

At 13:17 Blogger Marjorie said...

Thank Fod for good neighbours. And glad to know the cats are back home & safe.

At 13:29 Blogger Na said...

Perhaps Mim and Venus occupy multiple timeframes, and mistakenly thought their screened porch was in the Now.

May your shopping excursions be fruitful, Q. (Four hammers?)

Chantrelle, sounds like you're having a very relaxing day! Chuckling at Ben and his Black T-shirt. :) I find it challenging to find kids clothing in black. Just sayin'.

I am having a slow morning, too. Oops; had. Morning spilling over into afternoon. Mostly resisting the urge to tidy and clean. Slept in, read some, played with the kids (marbles! if you can believe it), music on the stereo, and it's sunny out. *contented sigh*

Marjorie, I just spent 30 minutes trying to buy the Mythical Creatures Presentation Pack from the Royal Mail, but it doesn't like me, no not at all (I think my address spooks it). Could I impose upon you to buy me 3 packs (I want 2 for gifts) and I'll pay you immediately upon landing in June?

Please?

At 14:32 Blogger Siri said...

Oh. And thank you, Marjorie. You give much better service than the Royal Mail!

At 14:42 Blogger Marjorie said...

well, I'm probably brighter than their website, at least ;-). They are usually better at delivering mail, and persauding talented people to draw stamps.

At 16:45 Blogger vampi said...

i'm looking at the stamps, whats the difference between the presentation pack and the first day cover?

At 16:47 Blogger Siri said...

I think the 1st day covers get mailed to you. I just want the package, since I won't be using them.

At 16:49 Blogger Marjorie said...

Vampi, presentation pack you get mint (unused) stamps plus additional information (in this case Boss's stories) 1st day cover is all of the stamps on an envolope which is mailed to you on the day the stamps are issued, so it has a dated post-mark. They mostly have a special postmark created to go with the stamps.

I'm not sure whether you get the stries as well with a 1st day cover but I don't think so.

At 16:51 Blogger vampi said...

thanks :) it wasn't well explained for not philatelists. presenter sent ordered. :)

the phone number was tricksy, glad boss had explanation posted.

At 17:01 Blogger Marjorie said...

I've never actaully read the explanations - my mum collects stamps so I'm familiar with how the royal mial does it... I wonder whether they will get a lot more international orders with this one?

Lys, I used to live on Oak Grove. A million years ago (80 and 81). Have we talked about this before? I don't think so. I worked in a store in the basement of the building I lived in and was robbed at gun point while working one Sunday morning. That said I really enjoyed my time there.

Saw Star Trek. Very fun. Seems I will not make to Art-a-Whirl this evening. Maybe tomorrow.

Sunny, kinda cold and crisp, rather lovely day.

Hurray for good neighbors.

At 18:57 Blogger Lexocat said...

Re stamp orders: is the part that asks for "at least one flat number, property name or number" the same as just putting the numbered bit of my street address there? My home has no flat number or property name as far as I know.

At 19:18 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I promise to come back and comment when the computer decides to cooperate and show the pictures. Your new mirror sounds very, very exciting. I am going to the library tomorrow. Perhaps THOSE computers will be less grouchy.

At 19:18 Blogger EmilyLady said...

The computer heard my Comment.

The mirror is wickedly cool!

At 19:46 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Wicked cool mirror, indeed. Lorraine, your house looks like a feast for the senses.

Lovely day here. Perfect river boat tour. Devon tour would have been more fun if we were given time to look around in the Indian groceries, etc. I was tempted to ditch the group when they headed back downtown, but that felt impolite, so I didn't. So glad there's one day a year when these tours are free. I'm already looking forward to next year's tours.

At 20:12 Blogger vampi said...

I would think so. i think i filled mine out wrong, but i still think it's ok. it puts the flat number in front of the street when it confirms address.

that was in response to Lexo, i forgot to add that important bit in.

At 20:24 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Stamps.Boss was talking to someone about Stamps when I left. I forget what he might or might not have been saying tho, the old memory...

HOME!!!!!!!!!!

To a really clean Spooky House!!!!!!!!!!!!

And hungary Bengals.

Didn't get any of the things I wanted to today, but I did get to meet and hang with Melissa Marr, who I really liked.

Did pick up Underworld 3 which I had serious issues with in the theater, but hey, maybee I just need to watch it a few more times.

At 20:32 Blogger Phiala said...

We just got back from shopping, where we acquired Underworld I and II, neither of which I've seen.

And my grocery store has your waterproof wicker couch on sale. Doesn't help you much, I suppose.

At 20:44 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I'll find that couch tomorrow, Mistress, I am sure of it.

It took me a couple tries before I got Underworld, the story is pretty involved, which I consider a bonus in a movie. It's a great story tho, and it's really beautifully done.

3 is a different Director, guy who did all the effects on the first two, or design, not sure which. I wish he had stuck to the story and not tired to improve it.

Frost tonight. Not kidding. It's about 45 out there now. Turned on the heat. In late May. Sigh. Brought all the plants in too.

(well, not ALL of them, I mean, some of them GROW and all out there. They are on their own.)

At 20:48 Blogger Dragonsally said...

I am such a girl, I looked at the waterfall behind the couch and thought, god, I wonder if the people in the house want to pee all the time!

I wonder if Boss's blog has broken the Royal Mail site!

At 20:49 Blogger Phiala said...

It's not unheard of to get frost here in mid-May either. Tomatoes won't go out until the end of the month, or at least another week. Memorial Day is usually okay. It's supposed to be in the low 40s here tonight (another reason we are NOT camping this weekend).

I'm sure you will find the perfect couch - you seem to have a knack for that sort of thing.

I have done very nearly nothing useful today. Messed around online, blogged, random odds and ends. Nothing substantial, nothing stressful. I'm tired anyway. It will be another early night, I think.

At 20:52 Blogger Lexocat said...

Thanks, Vampi!

Back to placing the order. Got interrupted by boys, large and small, earlier.

At 20:59 Blogger Phiala said...

I'm wearing my green sparkly-lettered "Cat, Dog, Beer, Laptop" tshirt. I only have three of the four, though. Cat jumped up on the couch, was startled by the green sparkles, sniffed them, was startled again (jumped back both times), and decided this was just too much for him.

Not so bright, my cat.

At 22:52 Blogger Na said...

Phiala - funny, silly cat. >^..^< And, sounds like not camping this weekend was an excellent call.

We had sun and relative warmth today. But it's a long weekend here - Victoria Day on Monday. And this long May weekend has a reputation for getting snow-type weather. Waiting for it. Have new plants to bring in, too, if it looks to happen. Still digging grass out of overgrown planting areas outside. Then the new plants will go in the ground.

Babble babble. Reading, maybe some Torchwood for me. Hope all are having a lovely weekend.

Week, week, week. Almost over. Daughter had acute appendicitis and an appendectomy on Wednesday, we had a little 3.2 earthquake right here today and I feel like I has teh ulcer since Thursday. Ima call the Dr. and get the barium milkshake and the carnival upside-downy ride next week.

Other than that it's niiiiice. We have rain, the flowers are blooming and the kitties are fine. And the daughter is feeling better. I thought about ordering those stamps when I first read about them, but then forgot. I might do that as a prize for me this week.

At 23:16 Blogger Na said...

At 23:16 Blogger Beez said...

Gayle, I am up for a night out- last weekend of Work II is next week so I shall be able to sleep in the next day.

What a concept!

Maure- you should get the Guilt Exterminators in while you're out of town- otherwise you may find yourself becoming Catholic like my family.

I must say that they do guilt well though.

So Fiends, we got a house for real and truly this time- we close on the 9th of June. It's a full duplex that we are going to use as a single-family house (at least for the first few years). Going from 3 humans and 3 pets sort of crawling each other in 750 sq. ft. to 2,000+ square feet.

I wish we weren't working on it all summer before we move- Hope (and Buster too Sue if you wanted) could come and live with us. There will definitely be a couple more pets moving in.

I was also thinking that you needed an outdoor couch/loveseat, even before you said it was to go on Venus' and Mim's porch. How about an outdoor chaise?

Beez, that's great news!

Fluffy, hope it's just a stomach virus. There has been one going around the Temple area. I guess you'll know Wednesday. Sorry your daughter had to make an emergency visit to the hospital. I hope she's feeling better. {{Fluffy}}

mmmm Eurovision highlightsSo is there any more news on Hope and her kittens? If there's frost I hope they've good shelter somewhere, assuming they've survived thus far.

Beez!! Good news on the house front, congrats!

Fluffy, ouch for ex-appendix, ouch for hopefully-not-an-ulcer.

Yay for Underworld and silly kitties - got to bring my big guy to the vet today as I have admitted defeat in giving him his pills by myself due to the bruising and the gushing blood and the tears (all mine, he seems only mildly perturbed).

Happy Sunday Fiendlings, I'm off to Get Things Done!

At 07:27 Blogger Marjorie said...

Fluffy, waht a week - so glad your daughter is OK and successfully de-appendixed, and hope that you feel better yourself, too, soon.

Lexa (I think it was you) - house number comes before street name in addresses here, so it will be back to front from your POV.

If anyone has trouble with the site let me know - I'm happy to get more and bring them out in June (or mail them if anyone not coming to the Fiend-Fest wants some)

Beez, good to hear about the house - will keep finders crossed that it all goes smoothly this time.

At 08:27 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Good morning from RI, Fiends. It is gloomy here; even gloomier now that the forsythias have perished.

There is a busy Sunday coming up. And then Monday I go to a clinic in Providence. And then Tuesday I go to the same stupid clinic. Sigh. Aren't they like DONE with me yet?

Anyway. Sorry. So, er, good morning either way.

At 09:12 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Morning. I have to water my grass for 15 minutes each morning now. I am very likely to forget this, so I may need Fiend reminders on this. It's just new. My neighbor is re-seeding it again.

Remember last summer with the Bobcat and all? Well, it's not a LAWN yet. The only problem is he wants to kill my creeping charlie.

I LIKE creeping charlie. He says it will kill the grass, and take over.

Call me koky but WHY would one want to kill a lawn full of little purple flowers and a plant that grows OUT and not UP and replace it with a plant that has no flowers and grows UP.

Grass cutting is not CHEAP.

I'd better get some tea.

At 09:20 Blogger Ticia said...

Good Morning Lorraine!

Q, I'm with you on the lawns. The less grass the better. I've let the creeping charlie (aka ground ivy) and the ajuga take over the back patch. The front part has grass, except where I've dug beds. That's the part the neighbors see the most.

I like my aromatic purple herbs.

Emily, that sounds unpleasant. I hope they do finish with you very soon.

And Fluffy, what a week! I hope you and your family recover quickly from what ails you.

At 09:29 Blogger Ticia said...

Okay, signed onto the laptop so I could actually post soething longer than a sentence.

Fluffy - Tough week. I feel for you and yours. I've had an appendectomy, so I can understand your nervousness. Good luck on the ulcer front.

Emily - Hopefully this round of tests will be the last.

Gayle - Thinking of you.

Quiche - I see a perfect couch in your near future.

Beez- Congratulations!!

Wow, I started this post off thinking I had so much more to say... I obviously need caffeine.

if you like the creeping charlie, stick with it (I've been googling to see what oit looks like, but it seems very elusive)I think thyme can make a decent lawn, too. . .

At 09:47 Blogger Phiala said...

Marjorie, here.

Purple flowers, creeping, smells nice, makes good bruise salve. It grows in northern Europe - you may well have seen it.

At 09:54 Blogger Marjorie said...

Phiala - thanks. I have something v. similar in my garden - mine mostly grows in the cracks in the wall and patio, not the grass. It's pretty, and, I suspect, pretty much impossible to get rid of. I just thin in out when it gets to enthusiastic!

At 10:03 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I also like dandelions. Bees like them. I want to make more garden and less lawn every year.

It's TIME I don't have. If anyone wants to come and DO anything garden wise, come over. I will make you tea. I will buy you plants and bush things. You can put them in the ground.

Fun, eh?

At 10:13 Blogger Marjorie said...

Maybe we could have a garden-planting-party at the end of Fiendom come? Many hands, and all that...

At 10:28 Blogger Phiala said...

Lorraine, I'd be happy to. Just the commute is a little far. If I ever move to MN I will do so. :)

At 10:38 Blogger Marjorie said...

100th!

Do you have any lavender in your garden, Q? It's nice and low-maintenace, smells good and the bees like it.

At 10:44 Blogger Phiala said...

Marjorie, Minnesota is too cold to grow lavender reliably, unless it can be taken indoors for the winter. I have some here that does pretty well, but I'm a couple climate zones warmer.

At 10:45 Blogger gaypet said...

ME, me! I want to garden! When I lost my house last year the thing I missed the most was gardening. :)

Marjorie, lavender won't grow here. I mean it won't come back after the winter. Russian sage, however, grows well and has a similar effect.

At 10:45 Blogger Siri said...

What is it with Men and Creeping Charlie? I love it too. All my yard guys have fits.

Grrr

At 10:49 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I have lavender inside, all year. Put it outside and it dies. Winter summer. Just dies. Loves the inside tho.

Gayle, come on over, if you have that kind of time. Merryhousekeeper, Hans and I and Big Johnny are working on House all week this coming week. Garden away....Fullfill all you dreams and fantasies, my block will no doubt take up a collection.

Right. Late, I am off to work. And to buy some hammers. And a trampoline. And a couch, bookcase, screens, fake flowers, a small swimming pool and a lovely fountain.

At 10:49 Blogger Phiala said...

This could be fun: Nick just told me that Tim Burton is doing Alice in Wonderland. Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Stephen Fry as Cheshire Cat, Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen.

Stop motion and live action.

At 10:59 Blogger vampi said...

Phiala, that sounds AMAZING. imdb oohe christopher lee and matt lucas s ell. *squee*

oh fiends, on the twitting, i have decided one and for all to make my twits private for good. i had been doing a seesaw, but decided i prefer private. i have gone through and blocked all the people i didn't know. if i inadvertently blocked you, please private message me s i can add you back. i don't think i blocked any fiends, as i checked their follows first and no one had any followers in common with me. i'm vampiress if you want to add.

At 11:31 Blogger AletaMay said...

Wow, very good energy here in fiendland this morning.

Fluffy! What a week! Hope all is moving in the right direction. Take care.

Gayle! Glad it is all coming together on the move.

Beez! Congrats on the house!

Sue! WTF? So sorry about the mess. Argg.

Q! That is a lot of shopping!

Okay, time for me to get some life happening!

At 11:55 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey!! That's a singing bowl on the table below the mirror! Neat!

I have one like that that is a fountain bowl. Have you checked to see if yours is? Does? Whatever.

At 12:17 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Fluffy, I didn't realize you'd had such a wild ride lately. Hoping things pick up for you and sending Fiend love.

At 12:44 Blogger Marjorie said...

I hadn't thought about the cold killing lavender. Do you have the smae trouble with rosemary? (Something else that does well under my reighn od benign neglect)

At 12:50 Blogger Phiala said...

Marjorie, rosemary is even less cold tolerant than lavender. I can't grow it here, except in pots.

At 12:57 Blogger Marjorie said...

I thought it might be.I've a feeling it is a mediterranean plant originally. This is why I should only be allowed to help implement other people's gardening directives... My own gardening tends to take the 'plant stuff that looks pretty, and see whether it survives' route..

At 13:37 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Hey, this didn't post earlier....

There's a big "Food not Lawns" movement around here.
I have a small lawn in front and a small one in back. Just enough to give ben somewhere to kick a ball around or whatever. The rest is either edible or flowering plants (or both!).

Just woke up...wayyy to earlyfor a sunday but i have a hair appt. 9am on a sunday for a haircut. too early but the only time he had.

Need Tea.

----
and now....

I have the same approach to gardening, i've rotated through many plants and found some that work and replaced many. We have the easiest climate to grown in here though, v. lucky since i really don't have a green thumb!

Fritatta, bacon, potatoes, toast, OJ and Mocha....i'm stuffed!

At 14:06 Blogger EmilyLady said...

People get their hair cut at nine in the morning?!

On a Sunday?!

Jack has been struck with the plague. Isn's this nonsense supposed to be gone now that May has arrived? Oh well; now is the very best time for him, since he feels that life is lifeless without his best friend Michael around, and Michael is in Maine this week, so Jack doesn't mind spending the day in his pajamas in bed watching "School of Rock."

At 14:09 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Emily -That's what I said! But that's when he had an opening...crazy. Got to see all the people wandering out of their houses in last nights clothes, heading to recover their cars. LOL.

I saw on twitter that Jason Webley is near my house. Trying to get him to come to dinner w/ me. Send him "yes, have a foodporn dinner" vibes ;-)

At 15:23 Blogger vampi said...

we are doing tomatoes in pots on our porch. apartment living. i have noticed since we put the plants out, the flying rats do not mate on our porch anymore.

oh and for nice smelling purply plants, i like heather as well. it drys pretty too. it is probably has temp issues as well. :(

i think we have completed our garden. we have strawberries, borage, 3 types of tomatoes, jalapeno, tomatillo, cilantro, chives, parsley, basil, peppermint, and some mystery herbs. oh and sunflowers and marigolds. most from seed.

At 15:38 Blogger Marjorie said...

I hadn't thought of heather (I'm v. sensitive to it's flowers, so I avoid it) but you're right - it *is* pretty, and you get it on mountains so maybe tougher than lavender...

Your garden sounds great.
I have tomato, cauliflower, corgette(zuchinni) and dwarf bean & parsley plants in tubs, and lavender and rosemary bushes in the garden, as well as lots of geranium family plants which I inherited from the previous occupants.

At 20:28 Blogger Beez said...

Quichie, I would love to come out and help with the "less lawn- more garden" party. It's my favorite thing to do, and I can't start on the new place because...er, we don't really own it until June 9 :P
(I am itching to dig in). I have lots of time now since school's out at the U.

Hey Lys and Aleta- I lived on Oak Grove too. Late '78 to summer of '80.

At 21:24 Blogger AletaMay said...

We may have overlapped for a time Beez! Small world.

At 21:33 Blogger ariandalen said...

Ummmmmm...if your neighbor is reseeding his lawn, why do you need to water yours? I think he should leave your creeping charlie alone. He can take it out of his yard, but leave your yard alone. Grass takes an awful lot of water and upkeep to look. . . "presentable." Sheesh.

At 21:34 Blogger Ticia said...

I lived there then too!!

Well, no, not really.. But wouldn't that have been funny? :-D

At 21:51 Blogger Lysandwr said...

No surprise that there has been a surfeit of Fiends on Oak Grove, now is there? :)

I was there off and on...oh...96 to 99 ish? Didn't even live in Mpls until 94 (after the infamous June 93 visit....those who are to blame know who they are :) )

I miss the squirrel wars in Loring park. The summers here seem to be counter-squirrel supportive.

At 21:58 Blogger Jess said...

I lived then! Not there where you all were, but I was alive. Totally spooky. ;P

Oh! Creeping Charlie is Ground Ivy! Wasn't sure. Phiala ftw.

You could always try digging up some lawn and planting Sweet Woodruff or Lamium. Both are really pretty ground covers (though you would want to avoid walking on them-- they're more a bed plant than a lawn substitute). They like part shade best, though. And there's always myrtle, of course, which will grow anywhere.

It's supposed to get down to 29F tonight. What the heck? I had to use an old car cover to cover my one azalea after I ran out of tarps and dropcloths and old shower curtains. My yard looks like it's beseiged by blob monsters. Or obese ghosts.

At 22:19 Blogger Beez said...

Even clover makes a nice lawn, smells good and makes bees happy. It's also very hardy and hold up well under foot traffic.

I bring my rosemary in for the winter, and before I moved my 2 plants were 8 and 5 years old.

If anyone wants something for the look of lavender and/or heather (but not the yummy scent)I suggest Russian sage. Any sage is dead-easy to take care of, they are hardy here in the Northland and they look great.

NOT plant obsessed.....really I'm not.

At 22:23 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Hmmm, Jess, you raise a point. You never see obese ghosts do you...

At 23:41 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

HOME!!!!!!!!!

Ah yes....Kind of along-ish day, but I did get the coolest thing ever!

At 23:43 Blogger ariandalen said...

You got something cooler than the mirror?

At 23:46 Blogger vampi said...

i'm sensing a trend. your title might have been changed to "princess of cool"

At 23:49 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Yup. Give me five and I will show you...
