Bengal Boy Needs A Ride....
This has been an amazing day! Kind of a long day with so much work coming in, I feel like I just got here and it's nearly five.
In the midst of all this day of work, I had an e-mail from Janet at Great Lakes Bengal Rescue. It seems there is a Bengal boy, 4 years old in a kill shelter in Escanaba, MI which is north of Green Bay by 2 hours. We have a foster home waiting to take him in Milwaukee , but the boy needs a ride. They say they will keep him until Saturday.
Good news is, I Twittered it (and many thanks for all the RT's!) and so far two people in the general area have volunteered to help. We are just working it out logistically, with each of them doing part of the very long drive.
I can't tell you what it means. That people who don't know me much, and certainly don't know this Kitty, would off to do this so he doesn't die. Well, yes, I can tell you what it means. It means that you are making a difference. It means that you can't sit by and let a Bengal die, just because it's a long drive.
I realize most of you live nowhere near Northern WI, and it would be logistically impossible, and I know just as well, you would help if you could.
And to the two people who think they live near enough to help make a difference: You have my gratitude.
It's a good world.
Onto little matters, the garden is in, and there's this new weird hair, I am still not SURE of it. Much shorter, and, uh, all colours found in natural growing hair. And I do know you want some pics of both. Give me a day or so while I think on it, yes?
Love and Bengals,
Lorraine

This warms my heart. There are good people in the world. There are!
Lorraine, there is a spot saved for you in Kitty Heaven, already stocked up with milk and Good Food and lots of scritches.
Thank you for your efforts on behalf of our Feline Friends.
Roxanne
Yaaaay! Which garden is in?
Yaaaay hair.
Um.....yaaay?
I am so glad the Bengal boy is getting a ride. Look what you (and Twitter hath wrought). A year ago who would have imagined it going like this?
How how wonderful about the Bengal!
We can be patient about the pics. Really we can. Good to hear from you, and even better to hear the happy in your "voice".
Hi, Roxanne, and welcome! Grab the fashionably fiendish jacket and personalize away!
::sniff::
::Sniff SNIFF::
Aaaaahhhhh
SPICY!
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Another Bengal rescued thanks to Ms. Fabulous and Twitter!
:)
Hair grows. Extensions can be changed. We love you no matter what your hair looks like at the moment. :)
I can totally sympathize onthe hair. i did get what i asked for, but i still have some regret. i like it, i don't like it, it's so hard to put into words.
back to the salt mine. today at work is just a big pain in the arse.
Yay for wonderful kitty savers!
Can't wait to see the hair, but i understand you need to bond with it before sharing ;)
The spicy welcomes totally crack me up....especially when i look at it from a newbies point of view where they may not have the foggiest idea what you are talking about! LOL!!
Hubby is home from dublin. well, at work right now but back on this continent! Yay, daddy's home and got to read stories last night!
Ben would love to go to the science museum...previous post reference...we're going to the planetarium in chicago w/ the grandparents before we head up to Mpls.
(and OK, you foodies out there, you have a week to send me recipes via foodporn's anniversary contest!!)
So good to hear your voice!
Yay! for kitty lovers everywhere.
As for the hair, well, It's just hair. It will grow or it will be changed.
Good luck with the Bengal. Will you be hearing about his progress and how things are going for him?
Hey, we're going to see you later this month anyway, so whether or not you show pictures ...
Good to hear your voice, Q!
We've done some rescue rides before, part of relays to get cats and dogs from point A to point B, usually from a shelter to a foster home, or to a new shelter where they have a chance. I can't imagine how much it takes to organize something like that, I was always just a cog in the machinery.
Someone at Fiendom Come will need to take pics of Q so we can all check out the new hair!
Any other good days out there? I could sure use some happy fiend stories.
Re: all the things people want to do in MN - we will accomplish much. AletaMay and I made plans, and it all will come together. Really.
Q - I missed your writing and wit and charm, and am glad you are well.
Fiends - pray for me now in the hour of my working really really hard - T-21 work days until these projects are due. I am wiped out totally, and have to go back for more tomorrow, etc., etc., etc.
I shall survive!
Kylie says "go Other MOther! you helped save kittys"
however, i can't be patient.
would like to view the new hair please.
please!?
Not that I wouldn't lend an ear if a fiend needs to vent, mind you. But I'm about to pull out the Pasty Cline and wallow.
Hurrah for the Bengal chauffeurs!
Glad you're feeling better, Q. Shorter hair really is hard to get used to-- always feels odd to me. Am betting it looks great on you, though.
Saw your new hair on FB, Vampi, speaking of new hair. I like it. :)
I'd do science museum and sculpture garden, if anyone's up for that. And birds. Very definitely want to bird.
So get this: we're sitting in our living room earlier this evening, and we see a Blue Jay land on the porch railing outside. It's got something...bloody in its beak. Something like the back end of a sparrow with the guts still attached. Eewww! Anyway, the Blue Jay looks around, casual-like, then very carefully places the bloody thing on the railing and flies away. What I want to know: is that the Blue Jay equivalent of leaving a horse's head in your bed? Whatever did we do to him?
Such good bengal news!
Wondering if I missed the continuing story of Hope the kitty while I was off feting my mother and her 80th birthday. Is there a postscript for her?
Good fiend stories? Well, I did take the school literary magazine to the be trimmed so the book is full bleed. That was groovy. The rest of the day - feh -
Hair! oh hair! Can't seem to justify the $ for the woman who gives my fine, straight hair a great cut - but I should probably go to the OSCO salon and do something about these lovely dark and gray roots - so Madonna!
Daughters making me laugh - discovered that the DVD player will also play CDs, and on fast forward! Imagine Coldplay has never sounded so good!
I have to read these essays. Now. So have fiendish fun here without me this evening.
Bengal rescue! :)
Uncertain hair, with no photos. :(
CSA veggie night. :)
Pooch has very bad hips, vet says, though he never complained. :(
Ice cream to go with the last piece of strawberry rhubarb pie. :)
Not accomplishing *anything* on my list for the evening, including not getting the house to myself for a few hours. :(
Settling in for the rest of the evening with the second Naomi Novik novel. :)
And special bonus: new post from Q! :)
Bengal Boy has a ride and a foster home!!!!!!
A new foster home to GLBR, but judging from his e-mail about his cats, and also his willingess to do an 8 hour round trip to save him, we're not the least bit worried about him now. Which we very much were.
People SAY they like the new hair...I'm just not SURE....
Jess, THAT made me laugh. Odd for Bluejays, but they are the enforcers of the bird world.
I am TIRED. Nearly done with first round of catching up on SPooky House. I think there are about 6 rounds.
I am watching L&O while working on last minute details for the Housing Works event tomorrow.
I am working with 2 people named Emily, and for both Neil and Amanda. And the Bad Guy is named "Lorraine" SO every so often I hear "Lorraine is a cold blooded murderer!"
Might be confusing. A bit. Surreal to be sure.
Well, you're Quiche so..."Quiche is a cold blooded murderer" doens't have the same impact ;-)
Just finished dinner, get ben in bath, waiting for hubby to come home from work. Typical tuesday.

sorry for the double post, blogger wigged out on me.
Ripping back on the sock that was supposed to be too easy to mess up.
Hearing your name in such a context would be odd. I don't suppose it happens often to you. At least, you're the only Lorraine I've (almost) met. I usually only hear mine in old films.
Are you sure it is L & O and not just your TV talking to you? (hee hee)
Blue Jay story odd.
Yay for the saving of the Bengal Boy!
All the things people are talking about wanting to do while in MN seem very doable. Yay!
Heartwarming news about Bengal boy.
I'm busy getting used to my new mobile (cell) phone. So much to play with. All contacts now added, so I can do the fun things.
Law & Order: Assistant on the Loose?
Nearly took a picture of the guts for purposes of Science, then realized I wasn't Birdchick. Pushed them off the porch with a stick instead. Which will undoubtedly come back to haunt me when I go out to weed. Mmm, hindsight.
Goodfeathers. That's all I can say.
Phiala, my CSA starts soon, too! Yay!
Goodfeathers! Oh yes, indeed.
Where are my Animaniacs anyway?
When oh when will I ever remember to tick the frigging box the first time aargh
Home from shopping at Michaels and Dollar Store and Cub.
I had to help son+ so he can dress as Hieronymus Bosch to give a report for art. And when is this report due?
Tomorrow of course. No matter how old they get, it doesn't change. Come college and I'm putting my foot down! No costumes from mom!
The wonderful thing is the sweetheart is involved in the kid and his stuff- they share a lot of interests that I don't have and I find us doing things as a family.
So different from life with the ex.
PRETTY sure it was L&O. My neighbour came over tho, so I turned it off. She got to watch me do e-mail. She says she misses the purple.
Me too. Might get it re-done.
A little purple never hurt, I say. Maybe some hot pink, too!
Me, when I get to MN, I want to hang out and talk and not do very much. I can dream, can't I?
And, OSS, I had a very good day. Got to rest after a hectic weekend. Slept late through a big storm. Stayed in my nightshirt until after 2 pm and then caught up with my online friends. Also posted cake pictures on FB. Ate some of the cake. And weeded for about an hour, but not too strenuously - they were all new weeds.
Now I'm thinking of going to bed again!
Oh Beez that sounds so great! It really says something when ALL the pieces come together like that.
I am behind. Do I give up or try to get some of it done before bed. :sigh:
The Bees, (Russians that sting, not BEEZ) may come tomorrow or Thursday.
The Birdchick is out of town.
Of Fods.
FOUR Boxes to hive.
Want some help? I'm not working yet.
Ick...stingy bees. Is Boss home yet? Stingy bees need lots of willing hands I'd imagine
Boss is way gone.
Maybe Beez. It is, uh, all about being Covered In Bees, you know. It's kind of Freaky. I'll drop you a note in the morning if they come....
Okay, let me know.
I have no fear of bees, so you and Hanzie can teach and I promise I won't bolt or shriek.
Aaaand- I've been stung before and it's not a problem.
I hope you have many fearless helpers Q.
Well Sally, I was one of the weirdo kids who would catch bees in my hands and hold them up to my ear to hear them buzz.
I loved bugs (still do) but that was rather witless of me.
That is so cool Beez. I probably would have done similar things if I weren't so allergic to them. Bugs have always fascinated me, I used to love catching grasshoppers, admiring them and being tickled by them.
*sigh*
Me, laptop, reclining on the bed.
My face once more has a case of Inevitable Cat Butt.
Dear Fiends,
Summertime has hit the North West.....
at least for now.
Chocos not Dancos
Black skirts not pants
Fans and open windows not heat and bumbershoots.
love it.
iffin you want to see me blog and cannot,
lemme know.
Chacos and heatwaves,
-bobina.
Chantrelle, it's only the new Fiends who haven't been lurking that would be going "WTF?" Delurkers should know what to expect. ;)
Granted, not everybody is O/C enough to read every comment like I am. ::sigh::
Ms. Fabulous. . .it will all work out.
Breathe.
:)
Yeah, I know. Easy for me to say, I ain't there.
yay oh yay!!! hurray for the bengal boy getting sprung from the shelter!
bobina, i like the way you chatter. :)
hair. if you're not truly in dislike with it, Lorraine, that's good! i still need/want to get the lame 80s-ish cut I got in April fixed (nothing like what the stylist and i discussed before he started cutting!). why is a lousy haircut so bothersome? it's just HAIR. ah well.
off to watch another episode of Torchwood, wheee!
Waiting eagerly for pictures of the new you. And do not fret about the length. It all grows back.
So glad the kitty could get a ride to a foster home. Twitter isn't so evil after all.
new post. Yay!
glad to hear bengal has new home. I can wait for hair pictures (just as long as I don't have to do it patiently)
New bees sound exciting!
Just watched the season finale of breaking bad from sunday...now to bed i go.
night all!
"Breaking Bad" is brutal. I don't think I could bear to watch it right before bed.
What we need here is a Hands Across America event, only a little smaller. More like a Raptor-Gloved Hands Across Wisconsin. Surely, once the Boss is added in, we cumulatively have enough Twitter followers in the area to form a human chain and pass the bengal from hand to hand up the line all the way across the state and to his destination? ^_^
waving, ticking box and shuffling off again.
Ticky box; trying to come back around because I miss fiends in my inbox, but lots of things going on right now (mostly good).
Hi everyone! Yay for the kitty! Yay for the power of the Fiendish and Fabulous networks!
Take your time on the hair, sweetie! Decide what you want--just know that we love you and are excited for you whatever.
Wow, Roxanne--Kitty Heaven sounds NICE.
Ack. The contractor and plumber were just here about the bathroom. It's never just one thing now, is it? I'm taking out the horrible shower and puttting in a nice tub/shower, and hopfully a washer dryer, so I don't have to go into the evil basement for laundry, and darned if all the tile doesn't need to be replaced...
Exciting. Sigh.
Ack indeed. Hate dealing with contractors and construction messes. New tile is fun, though-- one of those things that instantly makes a room look like a billion bucks. (Which I see from Twitter that you won this morning! Congratulations, and what a coincidence! That'll easily pay for all the new tile you could ever hope for. ;) )
I have mulch, but it's raining. So I won't mulch today. But I may go buy me a mulchin' fork. Why am I telling all of you this?
The contractor is Merry Housekeepers husband, and does all the work on Boss's place, so that's no problem, we've worked with him for years.
Would really love new tile, we'll have to see if it is possible. It's just a LOT you know.
Caught up (sort of) on morning e-mail. Off to work..
Hey, did I tell you the tooo small jeans I bought three weeks ago now fit! Whee-hoo!
Whee-hoo indeed!
Hurrah! Smaller jeans = WIN.
Q, you are rocking the FIT. Good going!
A contractor you trust is worth his weight in...diamond-crusted platinum at least, but yeah, it's always something.
Reminds me of what I have to look forward to soon.
Hey, someone else mentioned and I was wondering- any news on Hope the cat?
my voice software is possessed again.
once again it's typing: him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him
him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him
I wasn't even saying anything!! creepy!!!
Chantrelle, I think the question is who (or what) is your software possessed *by*
New tub/shower sound good. I really want a new shower and tiling but I can't afford it right now :( Also i'm pretty sure that if I let any plumber loose near my bathroom they will tell me I have to have a new boiler as well...
I shall take vicarious pleasure in your new bathroom instead :)
i need people to prod at me and remind me to go swimming, in about 2 hours time, if anyone is about to do so...
The old ones are coming!
(although I never imagined them coming through a piece of software, but why not).
It is a lot! Will be very worth it, though. I may complain about contractor-dad turning my life upside-down on a regular basis, but I don't regret having done any of it. :)
Yay smaller jeans! Go you! \o/
Chantrelle, that is a thousand shades of eeek.
Marjorie, go swimming.
/brevity blog
Lorraine, how great that the cat lovers stepped up to help the Bengal boy. And hurray for smaller jeans, you're doing the FIT rite!
OSS--Good day, I has it. I got the keys to my new house last night! I'm still a little shocked that a single half-time university employee can buy her own house, complete with 100-year old tree. It makes me tear up a bit when I think about it. But in a happy way.
Siri--I'm sending you my extra energy, I have a lot of it. It's sort of jittery energy, so be careful where you use it.
Kate, full-bleed is very classy, nice going!
Jess, "mmm, hindsight" made me laugh very hard.
Hi, bobina! I'm packing and moving in the Seattle heat (I hate the sun and hotness, that's why I live in the PNW) and telling myself, at least my stuff isn't getting rained on, plus the normal people are so cheerful when it's sunny.
Dan Guy, your Cats Across America would probably go very slowly, as some of us would want to cuddle the handed-off cat a bit.
More Kyle Cassidy photos coming tonight!
Wish he was here to take some of me, sigh.
Hope - Hurrah for new house!
I have never quite got used to the idea that I am apparently considered grown up enough that people will let me have things like a house, and a mortgage. I live in faint fear that one day thay will Find Out, and make me give it all back unless I can get a note from my mother to say I'm allowed...
Oh Marjorie, you crack me up. That was perfect.
Morning. Well, afternoon, but I just got up. Stayed home with another headache today. I don't get migraines so I don't know what these things are. I'm hoping the new glasses will help. Plus they're very cool. I hope they stay that way on me. Cool things often don't.
By my clock it's about time to say "Marjorie, go swimming! It will be fun!"
Hope - Congratulations! That is all kinds of wonderful. Have fun with the new house.
Woot! on the smaller jeans, Lorraine.
And thanks for all the "good days". Even mulching forks ;) Hey, I've never had a garden, so vicarious gardening is fun.
Hee hee I like that Marjorie! When I'm in meetings at work I often feel like I'm a little kid who's been allowed to stay up with the grown ups....until I remember I'm expected to make a meaningful contribution ahh!
Me & boyf are starting to talk about going for our first house and first mortgage...scary, I definately don't feel like I'm grown up enough!!
Happy days, one more happy homed Bengal, and a happy Hope with a new home too! And I have one day at work before a week holidaying in Devon, yay!
I've started a little windowsill garden to lessen my garden envy!
Hope your new glasses do the trick OSS. I've discovered tension in my neck is what gives me headaches, massages and/or pilates really help me.
Then you'll be distressed to learn that I didn't buy a mulchin' fork after all, Sock. The one they had at L'Hardware was $36, and the wrong sort for my mulchy intent. Forget it!
This concludes another episode of Gardening Vicariously with Jess. Next time: Will she resort once again to mulching with a shovel? Or will her wheelbarrow wheel deflate before she can make the choice? Stay tuned for the thrilling conclusion!
Love it!
Every episode could end with a cliffhanger...."will our heroine stake the tomatoes in time?" plus it could deal with heartwarming social issues "tonight on a very special Vicarious Garden"
Um, well, yes I am bored at work!
OOoooh the suspense!
oh noes, i hate mulch hangers. you never know at the start of the episode that it is a 2 parter.
i'm slightly freaked out that i am a manager of a fairly large staff or 11 people. who the hell put me in charge? what were they thinking? what am i thinking? oh noes!
i can't even begin to wrap my mind around owning property. i am happy for those that do. one of these days. i'm not ready for those decisions, like to i get ahouse wiht boy? we aren't married. will we ever get married? i don't know. at 4.5 years, we've stay together longer than any brittney spears marriage. i'm not feeling rushed yet.
Tonight, on a very special Vicarious Garden: Jess leans over the deck rail to refill the suet feeder and gets bird poop on her shirt.
Oh, the tomatoes are already well caged, I assure you. It's the basil I'm worried about: I think we've got rabbits.
Having rabbits is inevitable. I have a hundred-pound wolfie in my yard, and I have rabbits.
For those not on twitter, I'm rather entertained by this photo of Boss.
It just sunk in today that it's June, and that something happened to May. June is a month of much travel, and much, MUCH work, and big scary deadlines. And Fiends. Fortunately the Fiends come at the end, after all the conference presentations and scary deadlines are over. But how the *(&@# am I going to get everything done in less than a month? How can it be June?????
No reason to rush those things, Vampi, especially given property prices out your way. Even with the crunch iot's still nuts, isn't it?
I think after nine years of pretending to be a grown up, I can say with some confidence that there are no grown-up police. No one ever suspects. They just take it for granted that you know about everything, given that, well, people who own cars and houses and mortgages must know, if they have them. Plus they're pretending, too. The terrifying truth is that we're all three, and none of us have a clue, and it's all just mad, anyway-- cars and mortgages and insurance and knowing what a garlic press is for. Secretly we long to return to the trees and spend our days lounging in leaf hammocks, munching guavas and picking our teeth with twigs.
Right?
I'm enjoying no longer being a property owner, as strange as that sounds. Selling the house lifted a weight, to be honest.
I am amazed at myself - I went from perfectly fine (if royally pissed at the orthopod who told me my knee wouldn't hurt anymore if I had bariatric surgery - I guess that makes cartilage magically grown back) to bronchitis today. Doctor has given me antibiotics (bright aqua things), a new rescue inhaler, and syrup with the Good Stuff in it. You know, the stuff you have to show your driver's license to get?
Wheee!
When I lived in Binghamton, one could easily tell the homeowners from the renters by their reaction to deer and rabbits. We renters would be "oh, how cute!" The homeowners would be muttering "rats with antlers/ears."
I suppose if I had stayed in Binghamton, I might have eventually bought a house. But now that I'm in Chicago, I expect I'll always rent.
I'm right there with you about June, Phiala. June is the month for writing fiscal year end reports, staff evaluations, etc. Plus getting ready for conferences. I just have minutes to write this year, at least. We'll both be coming to Fiend Fest exhausted and ready to relax. Good thing too, since we'll be roomies :)
Er, well, yes. Just another interview, nothing to see here, move on....
Hey, if Bosshimself posts the pic on twitter...
OSS, yup! Fiendly vacation to look forward to at the end of a long and crazy month. Or actually, a short and crazy month, thus part of the craziness.
Dear 'Lo
Too late!
Yowza! This coming Saturday just got even better. After getting to hear Boss at Printers Row, I'll be able to amble down the street to meet this knit designer!
And the bad news is : We are having way too much wicked fun with this picture...
(and that's because we are really fiendish at heart)
Oo look, OSS - she does a Coraline cardigan!
Jess - your comment suggests t aht there is more than one kind of Mulching Fork. Is this so? I had no idea that vicarious gardening could be so exciting.
I don't have rabbits. I have very large slugs instead. They are currently enjoying my cauliflowers.
(BossPhoto - what happened to his legs? Do his hips bend sideways or something?)
I have a compost fork - is that the same as a mulching fork? Also have border forks and a regular long-handled one.
Oh, Fods. You do NOT want to hear about the Beetle Horror on Vicarious Gardening With Fiends (but you will, anyway.) I am planning to finally go out with the diatomaceous earth and get the suckers. First time I've seen these in my 22 years here, and they breed like CRAZY. AND they are eating all the bluebonnet seedpods and the daylily flowers...
Will our heroine prevail??
Great Photos! Not so great photos! It's all up on a new post!!!!!!!
Chantrelle, DD says there's a band named him, standing for His Infernal Majesty.....
Back to catching up!
Dabbler - that's awesome, a band has possessed my microphone. Macspeech twittered me saying maybe i'm breathing into the mic too closely. I didn't realized I breathed "him"...i'm so romantic.
Yeah, diatomaceous earth! Go get 'em Fluffy!
Well, shoot. I'm in northern Wisconsin (Green Bay itself, actually) and drove to Milwaukee on Friday. SO LAME THAT I MISSED THIS UNTIL TODAY.
