Raining Cats And Dogs....

The Doggie Sleepover has been going very well indeed. Cabel gets really happy when his best friend Freckles comes over. No one went to the ER this year, and Freckles hasn't tried to bury anything in the Leather Sofa. (Mainly because he has been denied access to that room) His friends will be back from the Blueberry Festival soon. Very Soon.

An Assistant tip here: How you pack something to ship it is VERY important. This arrived today and you don't want to know how the books inside ended up.

Ok, I do know these next shots would have made a far cooler video, and we will get it on vid when our Miss Kitty comes back from the Jonas Tour (MAN! I miss her!)and I know you will shake your little Fiendish heads and say to yourselves "That girl has GOT to get a life", but these shots made me happy, so I am posting them.

I have this little Pom on elastic string that I have gotten really good at shooting to the top of the window, due to the almost constant practice I have been getting learning this Amazing Trick.

Venus of course, then hops on up and brings it back to me. Most considerate of her.

If you would also like to learn these kinds of Amazing Tricks, consider becoming a Bengal Foster Home. It's easy, they are generally lovely kitties, who find homes quickly, you just need a room for them, and it will do your heart good. (the Hard Cases are sent only to willing homes of crazy people, like me) Save a Bengal today!

Love and Raining Cats and Dogs,
Lorraine

What a beauty!

The cat I mean. Glad the dog sleepover is going well, too.

You have GOT to get video of that. It's so sweet!

At 18:30 Blogger DataGoddess said...

I love how Mim is on the stove watching Venus fetch the pom. And Venus has some l-o-n-g hind legs!

At 18:32 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Mangled books! The heart weeps.

Nope, wasn't thinking you need to get a life. Not at all. Playing fetch with cats? That's very cool. Tossing things up onto windowsills from across the room? True talent.

Cabal looks so happy to be playing host.

At 18:41 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I will get vid, once Kitty is back.

Data, switch those names around and you'll have it. Venus is the blue one, and Mim on the stove.

They were books, now they are a beat up mess of Crazy Hairs....

At 18:42 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Oh, thought of you when I saw this ad. Or rather the critique of the ad. Maybe you need to upgrade your title from "fabulous" to "unprecedented".

At 18:44 Blogger Jess said...

Hurrahs! What an excellent pom-retriever Venus is. She is a Fine Cat.

And yay for no dogs at the vet! I like that first pic. They look like a Run-DMC video.

Speaking of packing stuff, here comes the Annoying Pesterment Section of my comment: did the cello bow come yet? Did it huh did it huh did it huh? I packed that sucker really well, I'll have you know. I am the queen of packing stuff in most cases, but I am dead proud of the job I did on that one: perfectly balanced, no shifting, practically weightless, airtight. It was a Priority mailing of near-transcendental beauty, that's what.

Well it was.

At 18:46 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Very funny! They are right tho, if someone had "Unprecedented writing skills" they would sure as heck be out there writing.

It does sound tho, in their defense like they really NEED a personal assistant, and not part time either!

At 18:47 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Oh, yes Jess, came this morning, very sorry! It has been a DAY and I am only now winding down a bit...

Jess has very nice packing skills.

At 18:48 Blogger Dragonsally said...

I'm with OSS - mangled books make me want to weep. How can you be so cruel to them?

We need this on video - cats playing fetch are so fun. My friend's cat plays fetch with balls of scrunched up foil, better than any dog I have ever known.

At 18:57 Blogger Jess said...

FEAR my packing prowess. Muhahahaha!

I am glad it got there. I get very paranoid about these things.

And amazed I found my 1st boyfriend - history from 10 years ago (who I've lost contact- plus he lives on the other side of my country) through...............
Neil Gaiman's twitter!

how odd can it be? :P
(actually he found me in his list by accident)

Yes, packing is a very important matter from what I see... but I guess every mail delivery is always a surprise there...

and yes... I really want to see a video of the too! ;)

At 20:08 Blogger Beez said...

A-ha! You perfected the pom trick! Kudos, one more Mad Skill to add to all your others. Venus must be very happy.

The pups look like a couple of kids on the edge of YEEEAAHHHHH!!!! crazy running around. Glad Frecks avoided the vet this time.

Erm, Jess- you kind of reminded me of one of the kids too with your "did it? huh? did it?". That right after the pup-faces cracked me up.

Another weekend on deck- sweet!

Yeah. Right. Sure, Lorraine, I'm really convinced you've got to get a life.

And hooray for not going to the ER.

That package really makes me cringe, being a former FedEx employee. And because I packed and shipped THOUSANDS of them from my production center, I know that books are one of the easiest things to pack, which makes me want to find the people who so sorely abused those poor books, and educate them. (There's a hell of a run-on, huh?;)

Venus is adorable playing fetch.:)

I love that picture of Cabal and Freck..they always look so happy when they're together.

OSS, that's one intimidating ad!

At 21:03 Blogger Dan Guy said...

Watched Coraline tonight with the kids. The 3D made me nauseous, alas. *ulp*

I saw Maddy on the Bonus disc!

At 22:01 Blogger dabbler said...

From the looks of that package, whoever packed it DIDN'T CARE. Books are, indeed, one of the easiet thigs to pack. Regularly shaped, non-shiffty, solid. Bah.

Evening has been just fine (two glasses of blackberry mead have assisted.) Off to bed. Goodnight, dear fiends, sleep well and have lovely days.

At 22:06 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I do have some words to the people who shipped it...Mostly curious as to what they were thinking.

I'd forgotten about Maddy being in that! Can't wait to see it myself!

At 22:09 Blogger Jess said...

Woo foir bonus disc appearances! \o/ Awesome sauce.

At 22:11 Blogger Jess said...

At 23:19 Blogger Dragonsally said...

So am I (well, not with a piece of paper, but you know what I mean)

Aren't the Flight of Concords fantastic!
we had our 12 going on 25 year old 'adopted' daughter here last night. Introduced her to the joys of Torchwood, and then Father Ted.
Now, I think I will go and watch some Shaun The Sheep

At 00:00 Anonymous kali_licious said...

Dabbler, not only did they not care, they thought wrapping the whole thing in plastic would somehow make up for it. *shakes head*

Blackberry mead? I never knew such a thing existed. Sounds wonderful!

Jess that was excellent! Now I'm giggling. "Redheads not warheads"..LOL

At 00:02 Blogger ariandalen said...

Yay! for not needing to go to the doggy ER this sleepover! Cabal sure looks like he's laughing in the first picture.

That was a package of books?!
And all copies of the same book? So that all books were the same size and shape? Sheesh. :P

All hail Venus, the mighty hunter! Are Venus and Mim quiet during this play? I mean, vocally quiet; I'm fairly sure Venus makes some noise getting to the the top of the tree and back down.

And since I was too busy running around trying to get a Blue-Ray Special Edition of "Coraline" today, I didn't get to post a poem. So, here is my current choice "Homage to My Hips".

At 00:28 Anonymous kali_licious said...

Ariandalen: great poem!

And another poem, by Patricia Monaghan.:)

Warning

She won't make wigs
of it. She has more brutal plans.
Some she feeds to pigs.
Some she burns in distant lands
you never want to visit.
Is it
strange that nude
before a flat stone altar
she fashions crude
and obscene figures from your hair?
Beware
women who don't falter
when they pick up scissors
or a knife,
who know the names of poison plants,
the purpose of each star,
the absolute anatomy of life.
Such women are, however,
individual and rare.
A single warning:
never let one cut your hair.

At 00:32 Blogger ariandalen said...

That made me smile, kali. :)

And now, to bed with me.

At 05:02 Blogger Marjorie said...

Q, I don't think you need to get a life, I'm ptetty sure you already have at least 3, you wouldn't have time for another.

I, too, mourn the books. And, if they were sending lots of Crazy Hairs to Boss they must surely have come from a publisher or bookshop or the like - i.e. people who should surely care about books? Sad.

Love the pics of retreiving-venus ;-) When I was a student, we had a visiting kitten (I think she came to see us because she got more attention than at home, where there were other cats. She used to retrieve. She used to climb our potted plant, too - it wasn't strong enough and would gradually bend as she got higher, until the plant was U shaped and she was hanging upside down from the very top, just millimeters above the carpet...

Q, speaking of packages, didya get the one I sent? (flattish, Dave McKean stamps...)

At 05:03 Blogger Marjorie said...

You know, my coffee machine makes coffee ever so much faster if it's switched on. Who knew?

At 07:29 Blogger Phiala said...

Marjorie, that's odd. Mine does too!

Today has no scheduled plans, so I can work on this list of things. Fix the textile disaster (I hope - wish me luck!), write the class I'm teaching in a week, write some fiction, do some yardwork if it doesn't rain...

No schedule but lots of plans.

At 07:39 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Cool trick, Marjorie.

A lovely warm morning here in RI. I think it might be time to take a walk. If, that is, my blood sugar cooperates and doesn't send me into a coma. (Kidding. Well, about the second part, at least ...)

At 07:39 Blogger EmilyLady said...

(Half kidding. It could kill me. But that's not going to happen. Really.)

At 08:15 Blogger Ticia said...

It's too early for me to be away. So, I will say "hi!", ricky the box, and go back to sleep.

I love the pictures. Cabal has the oddest ears and nose. I love his face. He's so handsome.

And the Bengals are just magnificent!

Quiche, youu have mad tossing skills. Even if I got years of practice in, I could never do that. I'm lucky to hit my garbage can at work 1 in 5 times and it's only 5 feet away. *grin*

I've been loving all the poetry. Thank you evrleryone for sharing. Especially The Moth one Q. I'm working on that right now, so it's very appropriate.

Life is too short to be boring. And time is too precious

At 08:16 Blogger Ticia said...

Morning.

I had WAY too much to dream last night. I won't bore you with the concert, backstage, being a back up dancer, AFP, escaped Bengals, Boss on G4 as a rock god, losing my clothes, horses to ride while waiting to go on stage ect...But it ended up with Simon Cowell doing my makeup.

Really weird Cirque de Soleil makeup.

REALLY glad I have milk for my tea this morning.

At 10:23 Blogger vampi said...

At 10:31 Blogger Jess said...

That is way better than my dream about the jet pack.

Good morning.

So (and this is not a dream) my cousin's in this band, right, and the other day I twittered a link to a music video they did. Next thing I know, his agent's following me. I think it's hilarious. Boy, is she gonna be sorry. :D

Marjorie, almost every morning I think it is a cruel trick that I have to make coffee before I have had my coffee. And all I have to do is push a button.

At 11:41 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Dang, my dreams are always so dull. Last night's featured more packing. It's a theme. Don't know why.

Now for a fun-filled day of reading and reviewing bibliographical description. Getting a late start, since I had a much needed sleep-in, then went to the post office (hi Emily!) first.

At 12:10 Blogger Kate said...

Love the retrieving Bengals - that's very cool indeed.

However, I should point out that I'm pretty sure Cabal doesn't spell his name Cabel (first par of post)

All's fair in love and pedantry...

At 12:41 Blogger Phiala said...

Cabal may not, but Lorraine spells things any way she wishes. If you are looking for lexicographic correctness, you are in the wrong place.

Besides, I think we'd need Scent-o-vision to spell the dog's name properly.

At 13:17 Blogger vampi said...

There. Divination article done.

I meant to have it done by lunchtime, but am a couple hours late. My brain got slammed this morning - ran into something online that I wasn't expecting in that particular place, and it rather knocked me off-kilter. Better now, I think, mostly. I think it would have been okay if I'd been expecting it, but out of the blue, when I expected something entirely different? Not so much.

Stupid brain.

At 14:20 Blogger Marjorie said...

Ohhh, I love it when I can remember bizarre dreams like that.
I had a weird one last night...it involved being in a lift with members of a rock band, and one of them falling through the crack between the lift and the door and being, well, deaded. And then those of us who were there had to avoid some counselor government type bloke. It involved lots of running up and down stairs and hiding and...things I can't remember now.

On a happier note, today is the day I finally get to see Coraline.

Went out tonight for dinner and a movie with the horse friends. Meaning, the people I ride with, not the horses themselves.

At 22:32 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Going to try for early to bed and early to rise kinda thing tonight/tomorrow morning. We'll see how that goes.

At 22:51 Blogger One Sock Short said...

A funny thing that only just occurred to me--

I kept thinking that I could not handle a job like yours, Lorraine. With so little separation between work and free time. Now I look at the "Principles of Bibliographical Description" on my lap--on a Saturday night. I have to laugh at myself.

Now, all the phone calls you have to handle? That still and truly does make me cringe.

At 22:52 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Well, no, did not see a good movie. Wasn't a BAD movie. OK, it was a bad movie, but it was so bad, some of it was pretty funny. I think it was called Ugly Truth or something very like.

The choices were kind of limited as we didn't want to drive to the next town.

The horses would have livened it up, I am thinking.

At 22:55 Blogger ariandalen said...

Weird dreams...yes. I've been having them, too. Twice in one month I dreamed I was pregnant, and very surprised. Then a couple of weeks ago I dreamed "Smallville" slash (Oliver Queen/Clark Kent). That was a first. . .though the thought of being the middle of a OQ/CK sandwich did run through my brain.

At 22:58 Blogger One Sock Short said...

And with that flash of "insight", I'm off to bed. Hope I dream of something more interesting than packing. Or lockers.

Sorry it was a bad movie. But maybe the fun of making snarky comments with the horse friends afterwards made up for it?

At 23:02 Blogger ariandalen said...

"The Ugly Truth" starring Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl opened this weekend. The review posted in the "Waco Tribune-Herald" gave it 1.5 stars out of 4, just ahead of "G-Force," which only got 1 star.

At 23:19 Anonymous Lysandwr said...

I *do* love Rosetta Stone; the Dept of Def provides it free online to graduates of the Defense Language Institute, so it keeps my Korean skills viable. And so MUCH more fun than the school was, trust me! :)

Gaypet--I have only to lift a lever and then press a button, but have the same thought as you. The more one needs the coffee, the less capable one is of obtaining it (another bad proverb?)

I have to stop reading pom as porn.
What DOES that say about me. hrmph.

Oh, if you aren't already following @NathanFillion on Twitter (and are a Twit, I mean Tweeter anyway) do the guy (and his browncoat fans) a solid and follow him. He may not make his 100,000 goal in time for an appearance at Comic Con tomorrow (Sunday) but at least he might feel more loved. /commercial break

Few movies, in my opinion, would NOT be improved by viewing with horses. They whinny at all the best parts.

Oh, and as for dreams.... was unable to mention it when it happened last week, but had very strange and extremely vivid dream involving Dread Val/Culfingin and I on a Safari through Northern Africa....only for some reason she got the camel and I a wee donkey--with a giant camel saddle.

It was a very uncomfortable dream. Probably just fraught w/undercurrents and deep meaning.

Good morning (Phiala Local Time)!

I have not yet summoned the willpower to make coffee. I should obviously grind beans and load the machine the night before. I think I could manage the button.

If I do get it made, I have highly inferior chocolate cake to have with it. I foolishly tried a Hersheys recipe last night, and it came out overly sweet, with too little chocolate flavor, and an odd texture. Huh. Imagine that. I should have stuck with the trusty Ghiardelli recipe.

Today it is going to be hot and rainy, not a good combination for getting things done. I desperately need to do more yard work, but it looks unlikely.

Q, I'm glad you had an actual social evening. Sounds like fun, even without the horses.

At 08:04 Blogger Jess said...

G'mrng. Mumble.

I need to do yard work, too. Still haven't finished mulching. IWas supposed to have it all done by the end of April. Gah.

I would eat inferior cake this morning. I'm hungry and not very awake.

Heh, dinner with horses.

Last night I did not dream of donkeys or jet packs. I may however have dreamt something that someone ought to turn into a comic book. Someone other than me. I'd feel silly. An ex-chiropractor who can rearrange people's faces with her bare hands could be a compelling supervillian, though, yes? Not that there's any science I can think of which would make that work.

There was also a Scooby-Doo-like subplot which should probably get left out. That part was crap.

Conversation at breakfast was great...Native American mythology, steampunk, archetypes. This is why I miss them!

And now the house is empty, they've gone off with DH to put up wiring for the Philly Folk fest, and I've begged off. Must tackle giant tumbling stack of books in middle of floor so people have room to move.

Really want to just read.
Life is good. Enjoy the day, fiends!

The guys are in the car when I come out and upon approaching the vehicle, a woman a little shorter than me, apparently not seeing I have travel companions, pins me to the door and tries to take my wallet and passport. As I'm fending her off the men jump out of the car and the muggee becomes the mugger: I took all the cash she'd obviously stolen from other tourists, we kick her to the curb, and drive off. We've got thousands in euro bills, and in my dream, in addition to being varying sizes and colors, each one has a picture and ad, complete with blurb in several languages, for a different country or tourist spot in the EU - "Come see beautiful Andorra!"

Saw Easy Virtue yesterday and while not great, was fun, and easy on the eyes. Both Colin Firth and Jessica Biel are eyecatching.

Thanks for the Ugly Truth review - not seeing that one!

Reading Practical Demonkeeping and wondering what in the world is going to happen next...

Quiet here..Big, Noisy storm overhead where I am. Continuous muttering thunder.
Big bright flashes. Great stuff!

Mm, feeling suddenly and strangely like I'm going to throw up ... probably humidity. Chewing ginger gum.

Oh, I suddenly realize jumping on the trampoline in this humidity probably had something to do with it.

You okay, Emily? Heatstroke can make you feel that way-- I've had the same thing happen to me before (sans trampoline). Stay in the cool, have some water. It'll pass. (If it hasn't already.)
