Very Tired Just Now Assistant...
Home now, feeling slightly shell shocked, if truth must be told. Rather a long day. Or couple of weeks since we are being truthful.
Boss is off to China for a few weeks, and all looks good. Kitty is on a plane and tho she may miss her connecting flight, we have hopes that will work too. I think I miss them. I know I miss them. I got home and fed the Bengals and have been running around since thinking "ok, next, what do I do next, what's up"
Doesn't seem to be anything.
Weird feeling.
I can stop for a moment. But I am not exactly sure how. When weeks get intense, it goes like that. Work, gigs, music, bees, Bengals...And all of a sudden, done.
Not exactly done, the e-mail has worked its way up to monster level, and there are a LOT of people waiting for replies. I have a lot to do, but 14 hours into this work day, in a stretch that hasn't had any time off in a couple weeks now, I think I am justified in saying that for tonight, at any rate, I am done.
Kitty and got to spend a couple hours at the MAUL of America today. After dropping Boss off, before her flight, we had gone looking for the cool spooky store we had been to two years ago in St Paul, but alas, it was gone, so the MAUL it was.
Very fun. I made it out of the Mac store largely un-scathed, makeup people see me and instantly KNOW I am the person they have been waiting for, and know that I Need Them. Not sure I needed the "Primer" but did like the moisture thing, and now have some new lips that help aids research, so I am happy about that.
The entire "Looks, clothes, makeup" bit is something that I am not well up on in this life. I love my long purple hair, and do the hair stylist bit every other month, but makeup, clothes and I are not one with the universe.
I watch Project Runway, and adore Heidi Klum, but when they do the runway bit, if I think "WOW, now there is a cool outfit!!!" you can place your bets that it will be in the bottom three. Likewise, if I think "NO WAY, who would wear THAT!" you have your winner.
Go figure.
Kitty also turned me onto the best shoes ever, Dansko shoes, road veteran that she is, she says 18 hours days were made for these shoes. I think she is right. And for an added bonus, they make them in both leopard print and black patent leather.
Why am I telling you all of this? Well, someone needs to listen, and you are it, I am thinking. This is one Assistant who is full on done, for tonight. Chatter me some nice comments and tell me it will all look better in the morning, sleep will cure a multitude of ills and I will wake and answer emails, ride my pony, get a massage, learn some new music and all will be well once again.
I am thinking it will..
Love and done,
Lorraine

Martha and I just spent over an hour harvesting verbena - I told her she had to work for her lasagna - it felt like plucking a gigantic vegetarian turkey...
the were somewhat shocked i came and said something. they stayed for a few more minutes then left. i believe they continued they conversation and they adults kept telling the kids to talk quieter. if they hadn't been totally crass, i wouldn't have said anything, just been irritated they were being loud.
Vampi, I'm sorry your night was ruined by such rudeness. So many kids seem to be raised without any rules at all lately, judging by the behavior. I don't expect either the kids or the "adults" reacted well to your comment, but they sure needed to hear it from someone.
Good on you, Nathilie, lasagna must be worked for. Wish I was there!
Vampi, I think I wouldn't have gone over and said anything, simply because it probably did no good. Turns it into "That women sure had a problem" the parents aren't suddenly going to go, oh yes, "she is right, we shouldn't let out kids talk like this."
If they were that smart the kids wouldn't be talking like that in the first place.
I would have simply waked by, carrying my biggest drink, and "tripped" as I got near them, then gotten really distressed, and said"Oh so sorry! I guess we fat people are just like that! SO clumsy of me"
The rest of the place would have applauded, and The Ruddies would have looked like idiots.
See? I did it to someone making racist remarks in line at the grocery. You've NO idea what happens when you shake a soda like that and point right. I was SO sorry......
hahahah! i will be better armed with soda next time!
Oh, the other thing you can do is toss out remarks in loud asides as you go by like "Oh, gods, it's like those people who let their kids watch BL, and make remarks about fat people, poor kids, growing up with parents like that, etc..."
Or general remarks about low class white trash and how badly you feel for them not having advantages..
Or just staring like "OH my gods, those parents must be SO embarrassed! Can you believe that, while looking at other people works too.
Get really downright upper class, icy, and snobby. They'll shut up.
Would have loved to see that grocery line scene.
Re: grocery line
I think I love you.
I love your suggestions, Q, and wish I'd been there to witness the Soda incident!
Hi Fiends!
I like both Vampi and Lorraine's ways of dealing with the rude. I say do what works for you -- you can't control how people will respond anyway, so do what makes you feel right.
I think it was really brave of you to take action, Vampi. I am sure that there was an important impact on someone that witnessed that. Maybe the moms or kids, or maybe a bystander who will be more brave in the future.
The soda incident was pretty funny, but a long time ago..
Blogger is being irritating about uploading photos. Shall wash my hair and try again. Take THAT blogger!
oh i tired the loud comments about being quiet. it was only once the kid started really getting descriptive that i got up and said something specific.

Home from our punk rock weekend in San Francisco. It really did rock. Melvins and Butthole Surfers friday night and ran in to the wonderful Amacker there. Had a conversation w/ her and Jello Biafra, having no idea I was talking to Jello until afterward thinking, "he looked really familiar..." Duh.
Saturday was The Jesus Lizard at the Fillmore which was loud and raucous and tight and a great show. Managed to nab seats in the balcony, helps me enjoy the show more if I can comfortably watch the whole thing rather than having my back start killing me and just needing to sit down by the end!
I caught up enough on posts here on my phone to see the vampi-rockin-response as well as Q's fantastic soda story. You guys are so damn cool. I just fume and never say anything. I hate confrontation. I'm glad someone has more balls than me!
OK, gotta unpack!
Lorraine, you really DO rock. Now I know I must keep a small bottle of soda on hand to deal with the obnoxious.
Finally! New post is up! And the pics download!
I know everyone's moved on but wanted to say, like Aleta said - I like both vampi and Lorraine's approaches. And even if it your statement, vampi, is likely to have zero effect on the parents, there's the hope you've planted a seed in the kids' minds. It might be a long shot, but it's there.
And the question keeps popping up in my mind is WTF were they doing out so late with kids that young?!?
yeah na, we were wondering that as well. it was way late for kids. the place is open until 11pm, and jon has to be at work at 11pm, so we hit them up frequently at night. this is the first time we've really seen kids out that late.
and while i was obviously annoyed, i made sure i kept my tone even and civil.
