The Royals Take A Bath...
The Royals, King Lear the Huge, and Little Queen Mab are making progress by huge leaps and bounds. For folks reading for the first time, Lear and Mab were rescues I took in Foster with Great Lakes Bengal Rescue about a year ago. After about nine months, we reluctantly came to the conclusion that they could not be adopted out. Lear is an F2, an early generation Bengal, much closer to the Asian Leopard Cat than a regular (F4 or higher) Bengal.
Early Gen Bengals are only for people who know what they are doing, they have special needs, bond fiercely, and need the exactly perfect home and person, who can understand what they need, and how to handle them. Lear will not tolerate men, or indeed, with a couple exceptions (and getting better) most women other than me.
The Bengals waiting for homes currently in foster care are later generation Bengals, who will make wonderful friends, adding love and excitement to their new friends.
This is, believe it or not, their water dish in my bathroom. Most Bengals LOVE water, and like to drink IN their dishes.
It's hard to see from this exactly how big Lear is. (I know, I called him Luka for a while, but it isn't sticking, sometimes I call them Boy and Girl. Or Babyface. Or Lovie Doll. Go figure) Lear is over 20 pounds, which is large for a Bengal.
I call this one "This can only end badly". I recently remodeled my Bathroom and it being winter, have been taking baths and The Royals, as we call them have been getting really curious. I want to state very clearly now, for the record, if I am found dead and bloody in my bath, it was NOT suicide, but a bad accident, which is bound to happen when one of them falls in.
Until then, it's kind of fun. Yes, there was a handy camera for this, they have been doing it for a few nights now, and OBVIOUSLY I wasn't going to have just anyone come in and shoot us in the bath (that would be an entirely different sort of photo shoot, eh?) so I did bring my camera in, hoping I could get some G-rated bath shots.
Below, Little Queen Mab, hops up for a look. She is a later gen Bengal, and very sweet. We didn't want to split them up tho, as they had been together since they were kittens.
Lear, when he came, was the most worried Kitty I had ever seen. He worried constantly, not that he came out much. He clearly needed a home, a forever home, with someone who understood. He worried about his friend, if he would get enough food, where he was.
Seeing him go from that, to someone (yes, someone, he is THERE) who can trust, and love means so much. I think if I had to look back at this year, I would say deciding to keep the pair of them, and watching them learn to be safe, and feel loved, would have to be perhaps the greatest thing that I did.
I would never recommend having five Bengals. (I have two more later gen downstairs and also a half Leopard who has his own room, another rescue) It's a lot of work. Bengals need time, love, attention, things to do...But if the idea of a little bit of Leopard intrigues you, go and google. Read everything you can. Drop me a note.

I had a water-friendly cat once, not a bengal, but he would take showers with me. And crawl up my leg while I was at the sink, and stick his head under the water. And he would watch me in the tub.
Then one day he fell in.
I had that scar on my ankle for many years...

Venus will ONLY drink from the faucet now. She comes and yowls every time she needs a drink.
I don't think much would happen if it did fall in, it's a pretty small camera. Might not be good for the CAMERA...
I will give you better bathroom pics once I get my art done. Like th ekitchen, it is going to be all Gorey, I think, from a poster book tho, not nice prints or signed. Bathrooms and good art aren't the best combo. It did turn out nicely tho, I love havign a bath!

Angus is sleeping next to me even as I type; he is shiny and happy due to a fresh package of raw meat and my latest addition to his winter diet: a tablespoon or so every day of butter.

Microbo does the bath thing too (and strangely enough, my first cat - Pu Yi - who he looks like, did that as well).
Morgan will sit on the edge of the bath. He will flip his tail, and eventually it will end up in the water. Morgan is not so bright, and it takes him a while to realize that his tail is wet. Then, of course, he will be entirely offended and blame me. Morgan then stalks off with a soaked tail, presumably to groom himself.
Of course, if there's bubbles I keep an eye on him, to keep all cat-parts OUT of the water.
I had a friend who left a tub filling with water. her curious cat pushed the door open, jumped up, fell in and then couldn't get out, which is where my friend found him moments later. She got him out and he disappeared for a solid week, sooo angry at the damage done to his rep and dignity. Love these pics, Quiche and really looking forward to the pictures of the completed bathroom.

The Abyssinians all love running water and can only drink from a glass. In the bathroom. On the basin. Convenient? Not really, but this house is run for the convenience of the cats for sure!
Or I should say for the CAT, as Calvin is the only one left. He had a bad night but seems OK this morning. Some serious gastrointestinal something...messy for all of us!

My little devils love water so much that they don't care getting soaked through in the rain or taking a dip in the pond if a tumble goes the wrong way. I don't encourage their bathroom visits because, well, I'm shy. I couldn't be in a bath if there was a cat there, it would put me off.
But Tonks loves water and has been found drinking from the faucet, from the toilet and from the drips left at the bottom of the bathtub.
Mostly, they just like to drink from the pond.
And they love 'kissyhead'. (its when I say kissy head, and they incline their little heads so that I can kiss the top of it)

I have some good size scars on my back that I got when my bengals (3 of them) were visiting while I was tubbing. Lacey fell in and couldn't figure out how to grab onto anything to get out. Unfortunately my back and hip took the brunt of her front and back claws. And then there was the time I was cleaning the small aquarium and she took a jump from the floor expecting to land on the hood, no hood, landed in the aquarium. Lots of water everywhere including on Lacey. As much as I hated loosing Ms. Q as a foster home I was so happy that she adopted the Royals and Magic. Would have had to make some hard decisions that I didn't want to make.
I'm envisioning a new product.... AQUA-PAWS! They'll be like softpaws crossed with floaties, in case a bengal falls in.
Love hearing about the Royals. And Magic. And, well, your whole pride, really.
Phoebe doesn't like to get wet, but she somehow never remembers that that's what happens when she rubs against my legs before I've dried off from the shower.

Love the tub shots of the Bengals--my cat Patches will wade in the tub when the water is just above his paws. He splashes around a bit and hops out. The other two cats want nothing to do with wading or wet paws.
