Getting Married! And Fish For Magic! Big Day Here..

Well, the big new tonight WAS going to be that Magic (EG F1 Bengal Rescue) has his new friends, that being six Goldfish and two Fiddler Crabs (hey, I am a Fiddler, seemed right) But there seems to be BIGGER news than this....

Yes, Boss is getting married to Amanda Palmer, you may have heard. This makes me VERY happy, and I am beyond happy to have her, (and her Camp) in our Family now. I love them all, and wish My Boss and Miss Amanda much joy and happiness. Life just got a whole lot more love.

(Life, will not be dull, I suspect.)

I love working with them, being with them and am happy the arrangement is going to be permanent.

Which I suspected long before their first date.

Hoped for anyway.

Joy to you, Boss, and Amanda!

Now, back to Bengals. I got Magic his fish today, and they SEEM to be a big hit. I got him two Fiddler Crabs as well, which he is seeming to watch more than the fish.

Yes, I now have a Half Leopard, 2 Crabs and 6 Fish all living together in peace and harmony. In one room.

So far. This could of course, end badly for someone.

Magic can't live in the main house, with the other cats, at least as of now, and I suspect in the future. Sometimes the later generation Bengals tend to pick on the early ones. Mim bullies him shamelessly on the Scream Porch. Which he can't go on in the winter much.

I want him to be happy. He has two cat trees, one of which is next to the shelves which he loves to climb on. I thought having fish and crabs to watch would give him something more while I am gone during the day.

Yes, he does like Underworld. Or would if he had ever seen it, being a cat of fine taste. He has four Underworld posters to look at.

He also has an Ottoman covered with a blanket, and blankets under for a cave, which he likes to hide in.

And a cabinet where he jumps up to eat.

LOTS of toys too. And we play Hide The Steak, which is always fun.

I do the best I can for him. We have playtime, and now he has fish. (And Fiddler Crabs) His options were Zero when he came to our Rescue Groups attention. Shelters won't take Bengals a lot of the time, and they really don't want early generation Bengals. We could take him. Or he could die.

They do bond tho, if they find their person. He talks to me. Lots. I think we are friends, of a sort.

And I am glad he is here.

And glad my Boss is getting married to such a wonderful women.

Love, Marriage, Fish and Fiddlers,
Lorraine

  1. Well just...congratulations to everybody!

Neil and Amanda, Magic and his menagerie (for however long), you and Beth of All Trades for your new work family/consolidation.

Magic sure is enamored of his new critters, isn't he?

What wonderful news for everyone! Hurray!

  3. Great News!

    all of it

But I've just had the wildest idea for project for Woodsman Hans (when he is bored and fancies playing with plastic tubing). Wouldn't it be the coolest to have Magic's fish tank be a hamster like tubing set so he could run along the fishes or from one hidey hole to another..etc.

I just saw it in my MIND. Ooh what a fine idea. Maybe I'll go into business with this.

Anyhow, very happy to hear about everything and lovely pics of Magic, finally! (is it odd that I'm more excited about Magic and his fish than Boss getting married? Probably. Whatever)

    Anyway..

Magic seems happy, too. At least, very interested in what's happening in his new aquarium.

  8. Please don't second guess yourself in regard to Magic. You're providing him with the best living situation you can considering his special needs. You're doing something wonderful -- though I'm sure he's enjoying the fish and crabs. :-)

A few years ago I adopted a stray who was very sick and had been abused. She had toxo, so we had to keep her in the basement so she wouldn't infect the rest of our cats (even after treatment, a cat can potentially spread toxo to other cats. It was a less than ideal living situation but we did the best we could and once Amber got over her fear and kitty PTSD, she was clearly grateful. My only regret is that she had suffered before meeting us. I wish I knew who her prior owners were so I could punch them.

Nothing is perfect but love counts for a lot. You love Magic. That's what's important.

And congrats to everyone for the engagement! I'm sure they're going to be very happy (and that life will, indeed, become even more interesting than it already is. ;-) ).

  10. Great news about Amanda & Neil. I wish them many, many years of happiness together.

Magic is a gorgeous cat. He's beautiful!

  11. That is really wonderful news! Congrats to everyone! Also, Magic is adorable. :)

  12. Magic, and fishes and crabs. This makes me happy. Look how beautiful and glossy he is, photos of Magic always make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. And Quiche, that's not a cat tree - its a cat palace. I'm so glad Tysie moved from next to me and didn't see that, or should be putting in demands.

And of course, congrats all around on the newly extended family.

  13. Thanks all! I do feel I am doing the best I can for Magic. I just wish I could do MORE....

Thanks for the rescue stories. We do what we can and it DOES make a difference.

CHICKENS??? That would end badly, I am thinking.

Just checked, every one is still alive, tho the crabs seem to be chasing each other around.

  14. Magic seems enchanted with the tank, I hope it stays entertaining!!

And yay for happy people! Like it hasn't been obvious for months they're head over heels, or anything.

  15. For cat trees, look on Ebay. Less than half of what stores charge.

Look for the ones that say "Free shipping" many of them say one cent, or something stupid, they will be scams, badly made and charge for an arm and a leg for shipping.

The tan one was $130 and the other $60, with free shipping. Kid you not.

    ReplyDelete
  16. They ARE pretty disgustingly in love. It's really cute watching them.

Boss and Amanda, not Magic and the fish. Yet anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Have you named the fishes? May I suggest Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Supper, Afternoon Tea and Dessert?

All the best to Boss and Amanda!

I know that look (the one Magic is giving the fish). Hours of entertainment in the future (assuming the lid is nice and tight).

Congrats to Boss and Amanda, and best wishes.

  20. Yay for boss and amanda. Way to go Q...it would have taken far longer to happen without your magic....not Magic, your fabulousness. ;)

Magic looks so happy! Entertainment is good!

Time to get the boys fed and in front of a movie.

    Happy happy happy friday!!! (#LOFNOTC!)

  21. magic feeshes:) magic looks so happy and such a very different kitty form when he found you. such a beautiful heartwarming story.

huzzah for himself and herself. they do look to be quite in love, which is so lovely to watch vicariously through twitpics. is it bad that my first thought was...oh the shenanigans those two are going to shower upon Quiche and Beth. life will certainty not be dull.

  22. What a beautiful beautiful cat Magic is! And clearly fish and crabs are just The Thing.
And so is the news about The Boss and AFP. I look forward to many exciting stories!

  25. Coraline just didn't win the critic's choice award.

    Up did

    ReplyDelete
  26. We have been prepared for this, Siri. Up may take them all. A horse race at this point, but keep your hopes up.

    Noms are the important thing.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would have a hard time choosing between "Coraline" and "Up." I love both of them, and they are very different movies. We own both DVDs, though "Coraline" doesn't play in 3D on our BluRay player, but the regular version works. We haven't watched "Up" at home, yet, mainly because Ariane doesn't want to watch it because it makes her cry. FWIW, "The Golden Compass" doesn't play on our BluRay either.

    ReplyDelete
  28. oh i just saw that they both posted smush face posts, how ridiculously cute. *melts* i love a good romance

  30. katie; naming the fishes!!! what about elevensies? LOL. GREAT news all round! Magic is truly wonderful news & I'm so glad he has you Fab! It's wonderful seeing him out; so different from whence he first came to stay with you. Fish are a grand idea & one I may steal for Jenga who spends her days in my room on her cat tree next to the window. She growls at the gardeners!

    Wowzers....

Due to the logistics efficiency of Army Reserve Dental Health Readiness, spent five hours this afternoon in dentist's chair receiving a)nitrous b)good drugs c)root canal d) did I mention nitrous? e) extraction of broken/abscessed/fused molar...

And have been learning the joys of Hydrocodone (vicodin) after many years absence.

SO....finally regain some semblance of conscious thought, and what BIG NEWS I missed!!

    Magic's got Crabs!! Just kidding...

Seriously, I am very pleased Neil and Amanda Palmer have found such beauty and happiness in each other. What a grand thing. Much love and felicitations to them and their extended family in all its permutations.
Plus, call me old fashioned, but I LOVE it when people get married!

In good(er) news, I applied for a job today at a local student Jewish organization. I'm optimistic! Also, I'm going to be visiting the Jewish Day School for field experience!

and also, really good luck with the fishes, I hope they settle in well. Maybe find a fishy expert for help and advice if needed?

I finally feel almost like a person. Doctor gave me motion sickness pills to deal with what turned out to be inner ear infection make my world feel unstable. It was quite an awful feeling, I'm so glad the pills work.

Fingers crossed Wendy, hope it all works out!

On all counts: glossy Magic and his shiny friends, happy couple taking the plunge, happy rescue stories, happy Q.

Best wishes to you, Wendy. May work happen if aid does not!

  42. Sally, is "Tall Poppy" really an Autralian expression for "important and powerful person"?
Strangely enough I used a drawing I'd made of Amanda to illustrate this on WOD and it was published today...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yup, and we like knocking our tall poppies down, hence you often hear it used in a not so positive vein, because we Aussies like supporting the underdog.

    ReplyDelete

  45. Very happy to hear Boss & Amanda a
re going to get married - as long as someone reminds AFP that *this* bride is not a living statue & has to walk down the aisle.....

Maybe all these goats can be diverted to Heifer International? They also do bees.

Lovely to see Magic with his new fishy friends, and how happy & interested he is. You really have worked some magic there.

On a Bengal note, William has been looking at some of the Bengal-pictures on the blog with me, because he is very fond of cats, and going, "Aaaawwww." If only our mother weren't so allergic. And didn't hate cats.

And Magic and the tank... he looks so interested. Just wait until he gets nipped... My money's on Magic, though.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Stacy- I wanted to work in Elevensies somewhere... Possibly the crabs could be Elevensies and Second Breakfast?

Oooh, between Up and Coraline? If I were voting, I'd choose Coraline because it's different. Pixar wins every year with the exact same technique, they do a fantastic job, and I loved Up, but, er, doesn't someone get credit for originality?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Can't think about goats yet, tho I will..

One of the fish died in the night and one of the Fiddlers is eating him. Fish might have died on its own, hard to say.

Golden Globes are tomorrow and Boss and Amanda will be there. This involved a LOT of Assistanting, but I think most everything is set.

I will be watching, done too much on this not to. Here's hoping for creative ones winning.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ickle fishes often don't make it due to stress of being moved etc. Double check that temp etc of tank is all right. (also, maybe Magic gave it an evil eye.)

Do you think that Boss and AFP sometimes say to eachother (when, say, they wish to organise a trip together or similar): "I'll get my people to talk to your people."

It makes me giggle to think they do.

Golden Globes should be interesting. G'luck and all that.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Lots of warm fuzziness being felt while reading this post and comments. I love the pictures of Magic with the new fishies.

I'll be thinking positive thoughts for you, Wendy.

Q, yeah. You really sound bereaved *koff*not*koff*

    ReplyDelete
  58. Love the photos. Magic has entertainment! Sorry about the dead fishy and the eating thereof. Not sure if the crabs and the fishies really want to live in the same home...

Seems like the PA life will be even more interesting and exciting (and busy and stressful) than usual (whatever that is)! Congrat to all!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I miss having fishies. Tysie misses having fishies. We helped look after 3 huge tanks when we used to live at Craig's house. The tetras and Tysie were friends...they'd come up to the tank where she was sitting and say hi. Hours of fun for fishies and kitty.

Hey - did you notice the spammers are getting personal?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah, need to figure out about the spammers. Getting irritated.

No fish or crabs are dead. I think I may get the crabs their own home tho. Need to figure this one out...

    ReplyDelete
  61. isn't there like a 3 day return rule for the fish? try taking crabs back and get better fishies?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Ok so I am home playing featherstick, introducing Mim and Magic again, watching fish and crabs...

You are all, like OUT somewhere? On a Saturday night???

I think I am the one having the real fun...

    ReplyDelete
  63. if by "put" you mean cleaning out a closet of stuff i haven't touched since i move 2 years ago, then yeah, i'm "out"

and let me tell you i'd rather be in, cleaning and throwing stuff out sucks.

featherstick sounds delightful. do your kitties enjoy a round of laser pointer as well?

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm not out somewhere. Featherstick sounds much more fun than laying here watching this one-sided football game.

Jess, that sounds bad. Had a similar reaction when visiting a reptile shop in Berkley last summer. Had to work really hard to stop myself from releasing them all there and then, poor things.

  68. I'm definitely in. So in I'm out (of it... :))

Thank havens my mother gifted me w/lovely bedclothes and a thick memory foam topper. I has a nest o'comfort to recover in....

Featherstick would be fun, as long as the cats were up to manipulating it themselves...they could take turns playing with each other. And I'd watch.

  69. *pats poor Lys on the back* sore mouths and jaws are just yuk. Thank goodness for thoughtful mothers and painkillers.

I think the cold weather you were all sending our way last week has finally arrived. I've been reading under a duvet. Brrrr.

  70. Nah, Fiddler crabs are legal pet store/aquarium store fodder.

It's just they get sold as a fresh-water aquarium thing, and they need salt/brackish water -and- access to land or they croak in a month or so.

I was out! Took the fam to see Avatar tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I was out, but it was very important. My friends let me borrow enough money to stay in New Orleans for another month. I have to pay them back when I get my financial aid or get a job. But, that's a lot of stress that's gone.

(My financial aid isn't coming until March.)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Wendy--you SO have my sympathies!! Last fall (even though I'd applied and been told I was eligible and approved in May) we got the news that our GI Bill stuff wasn't going to come through until mid-October. The school, fortunately, believed the gov was going to pay and let us attend...

In actuality, didn't come through until November. Hence the benefits in this case of living at home and free groceries. But it was still very worrisome--esp when one is unsure whether the school will cooperate and be patient!!

ON teh plus side, once you are in the system w/both school and financial aid, subsequent semesters (as long as you don't skip any) should be much better.

Okay, back to heavier duty drugs and actual sleep....

Have a good night, outties and innies!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Lys- I have a few friends who had the same problem with the GI Bill and Veterans benefits. I was thinking about how scary it must be, and now I'm in a similar situation.

Since I moved here two weeks ago, I've seen two different jobs posted with Jewish organizations that I might qualify for. I already applied to one. I'm going to apply to the other tomorrow. Now is the time for the sleeping. But, I'm hoping I can get myself a real job that will pay for school instead of having to rely on substituting.

I'm also going to set up an appointment to meet with the principal of the Jewish Day School and do some teacher's observations there. I'm also going to see what kind of qualifications he looks for in a teacher when he hires. Who knows? I might decide I want to teach at a similar school some day.

I'm so glad to hear your financial situation is looking up, Wendy, and hope the job interviews go well and that they offer you the jobs.

I agree with the Fiend-in-law, Fiddler crabs do sound inherently dodgy and untrustworthy, if not downright illegal, but I suppose that are not to blame for their name....

Isn't the pre-show, w/red carpet walking and possible ninja ukelele (sp?) attack, earlier than the 7 pm start time, even for you folks? Might want to check on Entertainment Tonight type channels....

Also. Coming up out of drug haze. Needed (entertaining) reading material. Read Q tweets. Now will have image forever seared in my brain by these two words:

    Impulse crabs.

    Bwahahahahaha!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. That sounds like wonderful fun, Cecily.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Okay....Entertainment (E!) channel has Golden Globes Red Carpet Pre-Show (I kid you not) at 3:00 pm here (so probably 4:00 pm your time.)

Then, same channel has Golden Globes Red Carpet Show at 4:00 pm (once again, probably an hour later in Minnesota.)

Local NBC affiliate (which I think is your 13) has Pre-Show at 5:00 for an hour, then Golden Globes broadcast at 6:00 pm. More evidence that if you *wanted* to watch red carpet kvetching, they will start at 6:00 pm in Minnesota.

So....is all of that confusing enough?

All I can say is, look out for Joan Rivers! Would be an absolute delight, to see her ask AFP "who are you wearing, dear? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  86. It doesn't look as if it is being shown at all here, except highlights on expensive channels I don't have. Will have to rely on y'all tweeting if anything exciting happens!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Marjorie, you might try going to the Golden Globes website:

    http://www.goldenglobes.org/

I just saw a quick vid there w/Rachel Zoe....evidently viewers can vote Fashion Iconic (don't ask me why it isn't "Icon") awards for best male and best female dressed on the red carpet by going to a facebook page.

I'll have to get that...because...somehow I think Fiends will want to vote for AFP--*all* of the dress choices she posted were seriously iconic!!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Such excitement!

All is going well in LA tho, Boss will be walking the red carpet, not sure if just photos or media too will be after he and Amanda, but don't hurry to your tv, they haven't left the hotel yet.

    Soon tho!

Hey!!! I just saw Neil and Amanda walking by in the background, behind the blond whoever is on the TV Guide channel!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. E. Sadly.

This is really kind of fun, these last couple hours. Studio writes/calls me, updates, I call/text Boss.

Feel kind of involved. Damm the rain tho.

Actually relayed message "Ask driver for his umbrella. Tell him to bill studio"

    ReplyDelete
  97. Lysandwr17:04

Just got lucky, flipping back an forth.... hard to tell where htye were in the process...

    ReplyDelete
  98. Lysandwr17:09

You can watch one channel on tv and log onto tvguide.com to watch their coverage on computer, btw. They just announced.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Lysandwr17:21

Neil spotting--on E!, right behind Lisa Edelstein from House who was being interviewed...he happened to glance right over towards the camera for a sec, but then disappeared in the crowd of celebs...

Also AFP has posted a pic of her successful Death on the Red Carpet.

oh...update..he is still in that group ....if you watch carefully he might pop up again. Or not. This is WAY more fun than Where's Waldo!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Saw him on E!

Was excited until he CALLED from the red carpet. Now I am more than excited.

Trying for some Amanda screen time next.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Lysandwr17:25

Henry Selig being interviewed on FB stream right now!

    ReplyDelete
  102. What fun! I've been busy with something else and missing the entertainment.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Lysandwr17:35

Holy Chao!! Phone call FROM the Red Carpet. That is INSANEly cool! wOOt wOOt wOOt

    oh noes...computer froze...

Or I would have reported IMMEDIATELY that Amanda's back was showing on E, to the left of the interview camera. They are evidently still in the big celebrity lobby area.... Want to see MORE of that dress!!

    ReplyDelete
  104. I can't be online and in front of the TV here at work, damm.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Lysandwr17:44

To be honest, I don't think it's mixingt well w/VIcodin...I'm getting kinda Dizzzie....

    ReplyDelete
  106. *pouts* No Golden Globe coverage here at all that I can find. Guess I'll just have to wait until the pictures start flooding in.

    ReplyDelete
  107. shiz my boyfriend says golden globe edition..."well at least i got to see 1 of mariah carey's boobs. 2 halfs equal 1 boob, right?"

    *face palm*

    ReplyDelete
  108. I sorta wish I had cable. Call from the red carpet! That is too cool! Wee!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Lysandwr19:23

    bleh.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Lysandwr19:23

They didn't even show the actual PEOPLE nominees...sigh

    ReplyDelete
  111. Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
    And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Mudville—

Coraline has lost to UP at the Golden Globes.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Coraline should have won. Not that I have seen Up, but Coraline should have won and this I know.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Lysandwr20:00

btw please blame earlier misspelling of Henry Selick's name on Vicodin. I certainly will.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I should do an entire blog on just how much Assistanting is involved in getting a Boss and his wife to be to these Golden Globes.

    I need an award here!

    ReplyDelete
  115. You should found the PA awards. They should be called the Qs!

    ReplyDelete
  116. *PA extraordinaire award*

and the winner is...Lorraine Garland \o/

    ReplyDelete
  117. No. I wish to WIN this award. Not run the show.

Can you IMAGINE a PA awards??? 100's of PA's fixing things...

    ReplyDelete
  118. i bet it would be the smoothest award show ever. it would certainty not rain. rain knows better than to piss off the pa's.

up only won because it was pixar. it's a shame that was why.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Lysandwr21:22

    Glee!!

"This show is about the importance of arts in education......and this award is for anybody and everybody who ever got a wedgie in high school."

    Gotta love those kids....

    ReplyDelete
  120. Lysandwr21:23

Vampi--I don't know what this THING is the HFPA has for Pixar..Dream Works and a few others. Though at least Princess and the Frog (why was that nominated?) didn't win....

    ReplyDelete
  121. I am still with these Golden Globes. Not happily, but still here.

    ReplyDelete
  122. At least Jeff Bridges and Robert Downey Jr have classy tuxes on....modern and stylish w/out looking like they outgrew them last year. Not into the white shirt below the belly button showing thing....

    ReplyDelete
  123. there's a big surprise.....time to take more Vicodin and go to bed.....well, at least Sigourney Weaver gets to go on stage.....

    ReplyDelete
  124. James Cameron is NOT Stanley Kubrick!!! What tech was invented to create Avatar? Not improved, but actually invented full stop?

Personally, Coraline was more groundbreaking. But obviously far too subtle.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Just watched the whole enchilada, and saw no glimpse of Boss or AFP. Liked Cher's dress, and a couple of the others. Boo for UP, should have been Coraline...and now I have that slightly sick feeling that comes from watching too much drivel....

    ReplyDelete
  126. Gaaa (as I posted on fb) watched Up yesterday for the first time, and was not impressed, thought "Kevin" was the most believable character, and where does that leave you? Have watched and will watch Coraline a number of times. Don't know about others in that category, but have to go with the boo-hiss ACK.

Still - exciting evening, sounds like!

    ReplyDelete
  127. No matter how many times I come back to this page, I keep thinking for a split second, "OMG! Lorraine is getting married!!!!" And, "Wait, who is she getting married to? :/"

    ReplyDelete
  128. Disappointing news to wake up to, but going back & looking at Amanda's photos is fun - the dress is gorgeous, an so happy she managed to be dead on the red carpet, too!
Phone call from red carpet too - I feel quite dizzy from associating with such a well-connected lady, Q! (And I think a blog about the work involved in getting Boss to an event like this would make fascinating reading - maybe even get Beth to do a simultaneous gues post about her side of getting Amanda the dresses etc.)

    BTW, How was the Beast?

    ReplyDelete
  129. BTW, i just looked to see wheterh Icould findany pics of Boss & Amanda on the Red carpet - I didn't, but I did find this one of "Amanda Palmer and guest" arriving at an after party... giggle...

    ReplyDelete
  130. (I can understand why they might not have stopped to identify her 'guest' in this one... and love that they just have the standard 'Amanda Plamer arriving at...' caption, as though guests changing on the red carpet was absolutely standard! Hope lots of fun was had, deite not winning the globe.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Coraline was honestly one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. And the animation was so much more stunning than that of Up, no?

Also, Lorraine should definitely win a PA award. I think this would be the next Fiend gathering.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Totally agree with both of those Emily!

Love and Magic, how lovely! Congrats to all. Just found out some friends of mine got engaged too, which leaves me & my b/f as the last ones standing in the group...no pressure there or anything!

Apparently today is the most depressing day of the year - well I feel pretty cheery actually!

    ReplyDelete
  133. Morning!

Very sleepy and up too early after ending up being awake way too late.

Hoping for a ride today, first time in a long time. I would be excited if I was more awake.

It was an honor to be nominated, and we are very happy for the GG winner UP last night and wish them the best.

(doesn't mean YOU all can't say what you want , hee-hee)

    ReplyDelete
  134. Anonymous09:58

Happy news for boss & AFP. congrats to all around.
Magic looks sooooooo entertained with his new buffet. Just a note, fiddler crabs are escape artists, if there is ANY little nook or cranny those suckers are outta there!
Many a morning i've staggered down the hall in search of caffeine and met one of the little buggers going the other way, ack!
At the moment i have three hermit crabs, if you don't keep their tanks clean and bathe them they "do" get that odd musty smell. They're my cats entertainment. Fidget (the japanese bobtail) sleeps on top of their tank regularly.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I just read that as Hollywood running on MORMON juice!! heeheehee

    ReplyDelete
  136. Well all I can see is all-singing, all-dancing, sequin-covered Mormons, sort of a "Witness" (yes, I know they were Amish) crossed with "Moulin Rouge".

Is it nearly time to go home yet?

    ReplyDelete
  137. You know, I wouldn't mind being regularly accosted by mormons on the bus on my way to work if they did a glitzy dance routine in the aisle first :oD

    ReplyDelete
  138. Anonymous12:40

Jess - Yep, you're supposed to bathe them weekly, but, I cheat... i've got a bowl of water that they can paddle in and they just get an actual bath once a month or so... which reminds me they're overdue.

Then pop them in the tub to wander around til they dry and i've usually got three cats & three crabs in the tub ^_^.

they make interesting if non-lovable pets, if you can put up with clunks and crashes in the wee hours of the night, (nocturnal you know)

    ReplyDelete
  139. Anonymous12:48

so far it hasn't happened...yet ^_^ I figure when it does it's gonna be toes or tails.

but one of the crabs is a big boy, his shell is about 3-1/2 going on 4 inches long, so trust me, if he gets ahold of anybody i'll hear it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Afternoon all.

Lorraine: I offer you an honorary HoTY Achievement award for Most Assisting Assistant in an Assisting Roll. We don't have statues yet, but here's a "Fun Sized" Twixt Bar (Need a moment? Grab a Twixt!), a coupon for a free Fiddler Crab waxing (that's a nice one, hold on to that), and an autographed copy of my future book. I'm...actually only on like page 2, but I can send that to you and like...owe you the rest. Later.

    ReplyDelete
  141. well jess, it all depends on who's voting. the Annie awards are voted on by members of ASIFA which is the animation society. animators voting on animation. pixar does not always sweep those.

    ReplyDelete
  142. "a pinchy disaster waiting to happen" What a way with words you have :-)

    ReplyDelete
  143. I had lunch with someone who thought Up was wonderful. And he saw Coraline, liked it, too, but LOVED UP. I didn't have any interest in seeing Up and thought Coraline should have won the GG, but, my friend's judgment is usually good, so we're going to watch it...I did record the entire GG broadcast, now have no interest in watching it as Boss didn't make a speech...

    ReplyDelete
  144. up was ok, i just didn't find it amazing and timeless.

    ReplyDelete
  145. That is kind of what I expected and so had no interest in seeing it.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Apropos of nothing at all, we took the cats to the vet this evening.

    Ow...

    ReplyDelete
  147. Oh dear, poor F.I.L.

Did the felines survive the outing?

    ReplyDelete
  148. They're in better shape than ever, apparently.

It was the supposedly nice one who did that.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Ow! Quick, get the soap and warm water and rubbing alcohol and aloe....

Argh. As was typing the above, the monsters called out, "Hey mom!" They've put all couch and a few other cushions on the floor, removed most clothing and are now doing stage dives onto the cushions. Now you know, breaking news from Chez Jass...

    ReplyDelete
  150. I don't think we have any rubbing alcohol.

Beer, on the other hand, we do have.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I didn't know you guys had Bengals! How cool! Yes, they DO that don't they? You should ALWAYS wear long sleeves when playing "Shred and Attack the Arm", Mr Jess...

    Safety gear first!

(Go watch the Mean Kitty Song again on You Tube)

    ReplyDelete
  152. Crikey - why can't I keep up? I tried to catch up this weekend with the Terry Pratchett Board and totally missed all the big news - Jess, I'm SO sorry to see that bloody mauling.

Hm. What else? Weather's nice. In the low 70's - windows open. Just had a celebratory martini after hearing my friend got married. She is so happy and deserves it. NOW I'm going to have to make ANOTHER martini to toast Mr. and Mrs. Neil R. Palmer (that's right, right? Etiquette is so complicated.)

Lys, hope the mouth feels better soon.

And I have to add, Fiends, that I laughed out loud at lease a dozen times reading these comments. I lurves you guys.

And Ima lurve you more in a minute - brb.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I wish Blogger would let us edit our typos - "at least", not "lease."

    ReplyDelete
  154. Raar! (That means "I kill you!" in Cat)

Just drank a toast to the happy couple - and I'm sorry I got it wrong - it's obviously Mr. & Mrs. Neil R. F.(ing.) Palmer.

And it was too much trouble to make another martini, so I went to get a shot of vodka but it was too high up so I settled for Coconut Rum. It wasn't as horrible as I anticipated. Quite nice, akcherly. I predict a quick deterioration of my already-feeble typing skills.

And Lorraine, re: Boss's eagle sighting - I saw an eagle here in Texas a few years ago on my way to examine a bank in Graham (BFE) Texas. They aren't generally seen in West North Central TX. My coworkers had quite a hilarious time with that piece of info, and told me I had seen the elusive White-Headed Buzzard.

Visigoths and Huns. Surrounded by 'em.

  156. Doughnuts are good, especially when they've got lovely apple filling.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Oh, and I shall definitely be wearing long sleeves in future, even if it's the middle of summer next time!

    ReplyDelete
  158. What a week it's been already with the wonderful news, fishies (dinner and a show?) for Magic, and fabulous frockage.

A Golden Globe would be nice, but I guess we shouldn't be greedy, hmmmm? :)

And we could have done without the scratches. Scratches are no fun.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Yay Fluffy! If you're in Texas, you're very close to New Orleans!

And, I visited lions today for MLK Day. I have pictures up on my LJ.

Also, my friend met someone she wants to introduce me to for a possible love connection. And, the executive director of my synagogue wants me to be on the local Jewish People Death Watch. It's actually an honor, but I don't know if I'm up to it.

Oh, and tomorrow is the day I find out of I'm really a UNO student.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Would you stop talking about donuts already? One of the naughty foods that I really really miss.

Ohhh, Wendy - digits crossed again.

I've had a big day, and I'm tired now. I need a donut. I think I might investigate making a fructose friendly donut right now.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Phew.
I've just spent 2 hours sorting out cat documentation (receipts, microchipping info, insurance etc) and updating it all on the excel sheet I keep for this purpose.
Why? Because Dear Mr Ex Husband messed up all my nicely sorted docs when he was last putting in an insurance claim and I had to shift through 3 years worth of info and separate it all again.
Finally, it's all neat and in order again; 3 folders for paper docs and 1 excel workbook for each year with 2 sheets of info per workbook.
I like to be Precisely Organised.

And I need a pat on the back. :/

grrr, hate it when people mess up my organised stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  163. wow, all that organization made me exhausted. :D

hera sighting on mental floss they have an article on something called a yike bike. i'm watching the video and thinking, man that voice sounds familiar. that girl looks a bit like hera, and it was! fiendspotting:)

    ReplyDelete

Hera tweeted a YouTube link for that song not (I think) too many months ago, iz wonderful! ... ha! found it. *crosses fingers link is done right*

In email, got something from Amazon declaring 2010 Newbery and Caldecott winners, and thought, has it really been a whole year since TGB got the Newbery?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  165. Wow, so much happening!

And I've got the Night Garden in my head, now:

I was just wondering if there is a way to navigate to the Night Garden stuff from the "Fiends" page of the site. It does not seem that there is, or at least I can't find them when I look through the site. So the stuff appears to be only accessible as the project to those of us who get the links emailed to them. It's kind of hidden. I was thinking it would be good to be able to just find the project and all its pieces through that page since it is hosted on that site.

I know that we are lucky to have space AT ALL, and that it is entirely due to the generosity of Quiche & Dr Wicked, so I feel a bit snotty asking for MORE. It is only that we are talking about doing cool Stuff, and I want to see it and share it...

    ReplyDelete
  166. Indeed. It used to be under "writing" but it's not even there anymore. I suppose Jeff (aka wicked elf) is busy moving things around?

    ReplyDelete
  167. aha, i don't know if i saw the video through her tweet or just by visiting her website, but yes her video is so nice. i was just amused to fiendspot in a totally unexpected place :)

    ReplyDelete
  168. I love how on the first day of the workweek, no one has time to post here during the day, and how as the week moves on, we chat and chat and chat.

Ice Storm a'comin'. I hate Ice Storms. Maybe SoCal will suck all the moisture out of the clouds, and we'll get nothing.....

    ReplyDelete
  169. we are trying siri. i posted a pic of the resulting rainbow on my facebook. i'll upload some more f my weather pics later.

    ReplyDelete

Been a very busy day today. More tomorrow. Eeek.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Hi All, HOME!

Had plans for a nice blog on SOMETHING, but went for a nice ride after work, not on my horsie yet, but another, and then to dinner.

Now it feels late. Like bath and bed late. Never made it home last night, Boss was REALLY late, like 2 and it seemed as easy to sleep there as the morning was an early one.

Why am I telling you this?

    Need sleep.

    Yes.....

    ReplyDelete
  172. News:

My financial aid has posted correctly. All of my classes are still there. I am okay, for now. Plus, my Social Security Card came in the mail, so as of Friday I will be able to substitute teach.

    ReplyDelete
  173. *twirls* wendy :) that is good news to hear.

    enjoy your bath quiche.

  174. I am now tracking my celebratory pizza through Domino's. Tomorrow, I'm going to a celebratory goth/ industrial night at a local nightclub. (One of the members of VNV Nations AND one of the members of Combichrist are going to be DJing!!!!!

Amiable brief and this post helped me alot in my college assignement. Thank you for your information.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Wendy, that's such a relief!

I'm in rural Vermont, sitting in meetings. (Yes, even right now.) Wheeeeeee.

    ReplyDelete
  178. No meetings for me today (wheeee!).
And good morning to waking (or thereabout) fiends.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Phiala, where in rural Vermont? I have cousins in Burlington.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I'm claiming the "thereabout" catagory though I've been out of my bed for hours. Brain will not shift out of dial-up speed today. [Have you tried switching it off and back on again?]

    ReplyDelete
  181. Try to open and close the windows, Louisa. You never know, maybe your brain went over to the dark side during the night.

    ReplyDelete
  182. dammit, I hate when it does that, stoopid brain

    ReplyDelete
  183. Morning. Late. Sleepy. Ack! DIdn't exactly go right to bed...

Right. RIde. Work. Think of something cool to blog about tonight. I am so there.

    Whereever that might be.

    ReplyDelete
  184. 1) Sad about Robert Parker - I also love the Spenser stories.

    2) Vampi - you failed to suck all the moisture out - .25" of ice. Home again for me, until/unless the temps get up to and above freezing. Parking lot at work described as "skating rink". 3" icicles on the garbage cans I put out last night. Did I mention I hate ice? (falling is bad, very very bad.)

    3) Wendy - you go girl - teach financial aid to mess with the combined forces of Fiendom. Ha, we say, Ha.

    4) Which should I do, laundry that really doesn't need done, or read a book. Finished the crossword, jumble and math quiz. Sheesh.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Do you like math, Siri?

    ReplyDelete
  186. I am here (though not technically in the middle of the lake, though I see an ice skater, several pedestrians and a dog, plus a snowplow out there right now).

I foolishly left my camera at home or I'd show you.

    ReplyDelete
  187. We're on day 3 of torrential rain and wind. Wheee! Ben just headed off to his mountain-top school. I have to drive tomorrow. I will be taking the AWD Beast. I know, you all (except you SoCal-ers) have *real* weather...but this is it for us!

Ben stayed home sick yesterday so i didn't get online much at all except sneaking on my phone once in a while.

I still have 1/2 of my interview w/ Kim Boekbinder to transcribe...we were chatty!

Hope everyone is surviving their weather (be it wet, icy or hot!!)

    ReplyDelete
  188. Not really, EOP. I only do the one in the paper (Squares that have to add up in all directions)when it is 1 minute or less. It was 59 seconds today. That, I can do.

    ReplyDelete
  189. My wife and I (and our little dog) took a little weekend trip to Burlington this past weekend. Was kind of cold to do TOO much, but it was really about getting out of the house anyway. I visited the Magic Hat brewery, got some maple syrup at a farm, got some BPal at a grocery store. Good times.

    ReplyDelete
  190. It's raining just a bit here. Well, it stopped for now but this was 9:30am.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Nice rain Chantrelle.
