First Ride On Dimil, and Some Dreams....

Here's Dimil, called Dim for short, my own personal horse in his new Blankie! Dim is a 4 year old, pure Arab, gelding. ("Gelding" is to a horse what "Neutered" is to a cat.) Dim lives outside, tho the horses have several shelters to go for warm. Outdoor horses don't get shaved either, so with a blanket, they are quite warm.

I've wanted a horse since I was four, and still can't quite believe I have one. Riding is the best. It's helping me with my quest for FIT (anyone who says the horse does all the work does not RIDE) and I can sleep at night. If I ride, I am out like a felled Ox (no, no idea where that came from) in about 60 seconds. If that. And it feels really good to be working at a sport again. Getting good at something, not that I am not good at many things, mind you, but this is a new game, which I think everyone needs from time to time.

Like owner, like horse. This is the EXACT same face I make while playing violin. I've seen the pictures people take. Serious here.

Before riding come lunging. Let's the horse run and stretch out a bit. Gets you and he used to each other, and working together. Can get kind of adventurous. Dead gallop with bucking is not uncommon.

I had my first ride on Dim on my Birthday! He was hurt before I got him, and has been in training with my amazing Horse Whisperer Trainer friend Melissa. He's getting stronger, learning to use his back again. And I've been learning to ride, so that when we start together, it will be done RIGHT. There's a LOT to it.

I ride English, for preference. Dim has a Western saddle on here. Didn't complain. The riding styles are a bit different, and my friend Jen, who has been riding him for me, rides Western, so that's what he had on. Apples and Oranges, just what you like better.

Not sure when I am going to ride Dim again, up to Melissa. In the meantime, I have a lot of work to do. I want to get GOOD at this. I want to look good doing it. I want to ride a piece of the wind and be a part of it. I want to push myself and see how far I can go. I want muscles that scream and are grateful, and grow stronger.

I want to chase this dream around the ring until I am living it, the way I see it in my dreams at night, as I have since I was four.

I'll catch it too. See if I don't.

Love and Dreams,
Lorraine

  2. I have no doubt you will master this adventure in your life as well. What a beautiful horsie you OWN! DUDE! That's just so damn cool.

  3. Lovely. That would be you and the horse.

  4. There is sheer joy pouring out of those pictures.

Although when you're playing your lower lip isn't nearly as extended as his is there :D

You two are so cute together!!

  5. This is so wonderful! Dim is beautiful, and you look so happy!

If you want to see HAPPY and Frisky Zoraline, just click.

And I'm so pleased with how Ziggy came back from the nearly-dead three weeks ago (not sure I bothered to be clear about how VERY close he was when it happened - it was a near thing.) Look at how AWESOME and frisky and FIERCE he is with his teensy TEETH and paws and DOTS OF DOOM!

This is what homework is like for me now.

  6. I loved this blog. It made me 'eart a leetle achy, it did. So happy that you have filled that horse shaped hole you've been carrying around all this time. :)

  7. Kimberly - fantastic videos! How cute is that kitty tummy?

Is the momma the one from the shelter with the hurt leg?

(I've been away to the south dealing with some family stuff and I'm wayyyy behind on all things Fiendish.)

  8. @Lyndyn Yup - that's the one! Hard to believe when you see her move around like that, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  9. That face does look like you.

Lorraine, I just want to check: you know Li Hua is Emily, right? You know it's me? Because I don't want to confuse anyone, particularly you. I think most of the Fiends know I use my Chinese name most of the time these days.

    ReplyDelete
  10. It is hard to believe, K. Her leg looked so stiff in the pic from the shelter that I saw, it's awesome to see her pouncing around.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The other two kittens (I think there were 3?) didn't make it, I'm guessing. :(

Awesome! You both look happy and relaxed. I like the frame and your hands looks awesome kind. This is Vinity BTW! Congrats again.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Lyndyn there were two kittens, and the other one was either stillborn or died soon after. Ziggy was the only one that was ever really seen alive. Her leg is quite stiff in certain maneuvers, but running and walking she manages pretty well!

If you go to http://community.livejournal.com/bengalcats/ and scroll back you should find a total of 4 entries about their rescue and life here, chock full of pics and video and story.

  14. Wonderful, happy pictures of both of you!

Kimberly - it's amazing how much different Zoraline is now from when she was in the shelter. They bounce back ~so~ fast when they get a little loving attention. She's marked up so pretty and it's cool the way she compensates for that stiff leg. And, Ziggy is going to be the best socialized Bengal kitten out there, boy's not going to know how to not be a loving kitty! So happy you could save them, go you!

Fablo, so happy you found Dim for your horsey-shaped hole. You both look soooo happy!

  16. That made me smile. You'll get your own, dream catcher!

    ReplyDelete
  17. We all need to fulfill in some small way the dreams we had at four ... and fourteen ... and so on. You and Dimil both look so fine!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Dimil looks handsome in his jacket. You two look so happy together. :)

Also glad that the kitty's owner wants to work towards getting her kitty happy. I'm also happy to say that all our feral cats are now neutered or spayed. :)

Hi, Vicki, Anne, laughing star, cookie, and Jean! Glad you decided to show the world that you are a member of Fiendom! Here are your personal white, buckled jackets. Over there you'll find whatever you may want to personalize your jacket. :)

    Beauty and joy.

  20. Dim has the sweetest face...and you can see from his expression that he adores you as much as you adore him.

And yeah, on those riding muscles. People should sit on a moving fitball to get an idea of the muscles used in riding.

  21. I LOVELOVELOVE the last pic of you guys together. So much joy.

I don't know why, but this line, "I want to chase this dream around the ring"

made me think of a carousel I went on with my biological father as a young child. There were these large gold rings on the awning that if you could get them while it was going round you got money.

  23. Found my couch! It's perfect and easily turns into a bed. I went and looked at futon couches, and the problems IS, well, they LOOK like futon couches. This one doesn't.

Found a coffee table too that turns into a computer desk, how cool is that>

AND a screen for the Forest bedroom.

Came in at the upper end of the budget, wanted to spend $500 could go a grand, but hey, it's really cool...

Saw cooler, but the Bengals would have it trashed to fast with their little claws, no leather alas....

  26. Woohoo! I am in awe of your shopping prowess! You are the Queen of the Retail Hunter Gatherers.

Seriously, well done you. It's always good when a plan comes together.

  27. Sorry, I was reading a book about frogs. Oh wait ... that sounded soooooooo rude ... but REALLY I was reading a book about frogs. I was.

    ReplyDelete
  28. All good, all good, we like frogs and appreciate your enthusiasm...

Actually it isn't a futon after all, it's a proper couch that turns into a bed, but not a pull out thing.

It might look good. Hope so. It's the coffee table that turns into a desk that I love. It has WHEELS too!

  30. Oh I do like that sofa. :)

It looks much better than the evil ones that are basically folded foam squabs. In my experience the top squabs tend to work their way fowards while you're sitting on them, so you have to get up every so often to nudge the seat chushions back into position. Bah, humbug.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This one is comfortable as both a sofa and a bed, I tried it. And it's REALLY easy to convert.

I have a coffee table desk now too, and sit on a squishy couch kind of hunched, and I work here WAY too much for that.

This one will let me sit UP. It's smaller than this one, the new table, which the Bengals won't like, but aren't going to like ANY of this, so...

It will be like I tried to do last summer, with the futon, which didn't work. I want a Pod to lounge on, and sleep on some nights. This works.

They had cool REALLY affordable things, I was pretty surprised...

There was a pie shaped coffee table too, with TWO things that came up, but I don't really NEED that...

There was this amazing sort of overstuffed two oversized recliners with a cup and table thing in the middle, in sort of a curve shape, whic rocked, but I don't need reclining things and one couldn't sleep on it either. Or cuddle, which may yet be needed at some point.

This one has a handy storge thing in the bottom too, so I can put the duvet, sheet and pillows down ther efor when I want to sleep there.

  32. @redheadpixie21:33

    Dear Fabulous Lorraine,

Not only does that furniture sound amazing, but it is comforting to know that I am not the only person who gets the 'must turn house upside down' feeling.

I read your blog often - your 'Day in the Life of a P.A' has so many similarities to my job (Admin Assistant (Nerd Herder) to 400 high-maintenance creative types) that I sometimes feel I need a Princess of No tiara. Very inspiring. Thanks for speaking up for the assistants!

    ReplyDelete
  33. That looks awesome. Definitely not futon-y at all.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Congrats on the sofa!

I have four regular cats and they are slowly shredding everything. Le sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Great sofa at a great price!

Owning a horse seems like such a big deal to me. taking on that responsibility is amazing. And I love the way humans and animals open their hearts to each other. What big hearts you and Dim have...

  36. Hi, red-headed pixie! Welcome to Fiendom! Grab a white, buckled jacket and supplies for personalization and go for it! Looking forward to seeing you, and other new Fiends, around. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi RedPixie and welcome! Glad you like it, hop in some more, we're all friendly here.

    More or less.

    Couch is not a futon. It's a couch-couch.

The futon will go UP, into the Cuddley Bedroom (Kitty's room) on top of the one there already, which has its own frame, for sort of a Princess and the Pea effect.

    Wait till I re-do UP!

  40. You both look so happy! It's very heartwarming coming here :o).

I've never been on a horse in my life; we are hopefully moving somewhere a bit more countryside-y in the near future so there may be opportunities! Viewing some houses tonight in fact.

Lovely sofa/bed combo, those ones are generally very comfy in my experience!! I take my sleep very seriously :o)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Nice couch/couch-bed thing! Looks comfy.

Jess, I hear that sound in my head all the time!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I tried to work the three-our shift ... but I was too dead to finish ... I am so sick and totally forgot that when I said, "Sure, I'll work the extra hour."

    ReplyDelete
  43. Odd. Blogger had somehow decided I hadn't asked for follow-up comments to be emailed to me anymore. I was wondering why Fiends had gone so quiet.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oooo, Jess. I needed that button. You are so the find cool things on the net Fiend.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Long day! Started way too early with planes, and a sore throat. Now tho, we have tea and a fire. My fireplace got fixed today! No more exploding thing...

My new furniture comes tomorrow too, the couches went today, by couches, I will miss you....(oddly enough, they have been here since I was) tonight I have a futon on the floor and two bengals sacked out by the fire...

    More sleep soon...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh my Fods we can TOTALLY be sore throat buddies this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I totally missed that I had missed this post. No wonder the email got so boring. So tick, then read comments.

It's so wonderful to see how happy you and Dimil are together. And the lunging photo is grace captured.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm glad your fireplace is working now, Lorraine.

The pictures of you and Dim are awesome. I had no idea horses were just big, lovable kitty cats! I swear he looks like he's purring in that pictures of you two snuggling! And you look SO happy.

Happy Belated Birthday, btw. I meant to stop by here but barely got to say "hi" on twitter.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Dim's such a pretty boy, and very handsome in his blanket. Don'tcha love lunging..you can always tell when the horse is feeling good by the amount of silly bucking and kicking (and the explosive farts the bucking and kicking cause are pretty funny too)! Ah someday I'll be able to have a horse of my own, I miss 'em.

That couch looks soooo comfy. I didn't know they made any that weren't those with the awful fold-away beds. And this one has storage too? Awesome!

Jess..you always make my inner Anglophile happy. Especially on a bad PMS-y day like today, I needed that laugh, so thanks!

Hope all those under the weather feel better soon.:)

  50. Dim and Fablo playing in the ring, L-U-N-G-I-N-G. It's lurve!

Um. Yeah. I'm a little punchy. Working 'til I can't see quite straight, for weeks. :P

But this is lovely pics and story, and go furniture!

I've been thinking - we rent, so can't do much, but I could buy inexpensive door knobs to put in place of the yechy faux-brass knobs in the kitchen which are buggin' me. That's as much Home Improvements as we get. /random tangential thought

  63. I'm at a noisy HS Basketball game. We're standing on the bleachers in what is affectionately called "The Den" with all the students.

(They're supposed to throw the ball through those little hoops, right?)

I hope you're feeling better, Q! Lemon, ginger, honey for the throat. *smoochies*

    ReplyDelete
  64. Sorry I've been so quiet. My best friend is getting married tomorrow. I am jumping out of my skin excited. We just got home from our grandmothers 80th birthday party. It was a surprise party, and it was really awesome.

I hope you feel better soon Quiche!

    ReplyDelete
  65. This game would be so much more fun with fiends, Paul & Lorraine, or Irish car bombs.

    Not dissing, just saying....

Bengals could make it interesting too...

    ReplyDelete
  66. TICIA!!!!

    Poke and smooch and swoosh.

    ReplyDelete
  67. See, I was right! This game is MUCH more fun with fiends in the house. Even when they're sickly, hot, and far away!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Ticia, you should probably be glad I'm not there with you. I played basketball in junior high and high school, so I tend to be loud. :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. YOU loud? I don't think any fiends could possibly be LOUD, could we? We're a shy, retiring lot that doesn't get passionate, riled, rowdy, or excited about anything, right?

    *grin*

    ReplyDelete
  70. Siri, I am SO picturing us all in tutu's at a bar in a ballet studio going and poke and smooch and swoosh as we practise our positions....of course our tutus would be black and purple.

    ReplyDelete
  71. You are right Ticia. We ARE such shy quiet retiring types.
    *snicker*

    ReplyDelete
  72. No, no. I NEVER get loud. Nor would I know how to project my voice so that everyone could hear me without my having to yell. And I have such quiet children.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Funny you should say that, Sally. The halftime show was a dancetroop of goth ballet dancers in black tutus, corsets, and skully makeup FTW!

Only purple was missing, otherwise the outfits would have been Quiche Awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  74. No tutu for me, Sally. I have a purple hip scarf with black fringe. Give me the beat, baby!

And, Ariandalen, your girls are incredible!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Sometimes, yes they are. I also always know where they are in the grocery store (which is slightly smaller than Sam's Club).

Not that I let them run around, because I'm mean like that.

  80. How much longer must this level of he'll be endured?

    Oh, 2 min. 30 seconds.

At least that's not football time!!

now taking a break, to go to a neighborhood winter festival with the guy and monsters. we've been promised a sleigh ride and fun, and i think hot chocolate might be part of the plan! should be perfect day for it, as high temps have been hovering just below freezing for several days (i.e. in local parlance, it's "warm" but not "too warm"). wheeeee

  93. Hey Fiends. Still had trouble getting to sleep last night, but eventually did fall asleep and made up for lost time. Today I woke up at 5:30. PM. Yeah, PM.

    Still feel like hell.

But the sleep was good. I desperately hope I can sleep tonight.

Will take a quick look at twitter, but have no hope of catching up there. Lemme know if I missed anything important.

Hope all the other ailing fiends are feeling better.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Glad you got some quality sleep, Linda. Sleep is a wonderful way the body heals itself.

May you get more tonight. :)

    ReplyDelete
  95. Hey Linda - what you missed on Twitter was all the speculation that Phoebe ate you and was going to start Twittering as you - nothing much :-)

Glad to hear about your 18 hour sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Love Dimil and Lorraine pics.

I'm buried in costuming The Mikado... much better than last year's Wizard of OZ, only 23 costumes rather than 80. But still... kimonos, and brocades, are some loaner real kimono rumored to be worth 3000.00 First tech rehearsal this coming Friday, after that, I might have my brain back...

    Miss you, fiends!

    ReplyDelete
  97. festival was fun. the hot chocolate was only warm, but the sleigh ride was soothing, the monstress and i went around about seven times. draft horses! Dick and Sugar. we played at curling, done on the neighborhood ice rink - most neighborhood parks have a rink which is made by someone skillfully flooding a patch of grass next to the community league center at the beginning of winter weather, with marks for hockey and curling painted in later. we played at curling, using "stones" made by pouring water into small or large plastic jugs and letting 'em freeze. and we made bannock over a wood fire and ate it with raspberry jam.

sympathizing with ailing ones. had a rough cold i finally kicked after a couple weeks.

meanwhile working through two time-consuming assignments. nearly done with the academic press gig, at least in terms of any major responsibility. hoping hoping hoping to have a few days off soon, to catch up with fiends and assorted friends and family, and spend some unstructured, unhurried chunks of time with my monsters.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Thanks, Ariandalen, I did sleep well last night too. So good to finally get some healing time.

Heh, Jane, that might yet happen. Got really low on kibble while I've been homebound.

Na, that festival sounds like so much fun. Fingers crossed for some time off for you. You deserve an extra long break for dealing with all those social science "words".

Ooo, Dabbler, will you be able to show pictures of your costumes? They must be gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  99. There's a lot of joy in those pictures. I'm glad you and Dimil found each other :-)

  101. It is eerily quiet around here.

Q, hope the dr. fixes you up and you're back on your feet, sore-throat and cough-free soon!

Hubby turns 40 this year and wants to go to Barcelona for the MotoGP races. I have always been an off-season traveler. I had NO IDEA how flippin' expensive it is to fly to Europe in the summer!! Jumpin' Jesus on a pogo stick! All 3 of us should be able to fly for the cost of just one ticket!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Can anyone help please?

I have been asked to suggest someone in the Bay area who may be able to help foster a cat for 6 months to a year while the owner sorts out her domestic situation and gets her operation out of the way. The owner would pay for the food.
This is quite urgent so if you do know anyone please let me know. it's an acquaintance of my Mum who lives in Oakland, I can pass the contact details along.
They were unable to find anyone in their circle who could do this and the lady doesn't want to part from the cat or give it up for adoption and also she is worried the cat would be put down if she did.

As far as I know the cat is an indoor cat.

    Thank you kind fiends.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Hey, I'm here. Have you been to Barcelona? We were there a few years ago and if I'd had the cats with me I think I would have tried to stay.

We're flying to UT in May and those flights seem like they're going to be hugely expensive, too. Gah!

  104. Happy 1 month Birthday to little Ziggy!

  112. glad you cleared that up jess, because typically you would not want to be om nom'ed by a bobcat...

  113. Getting nom'ed by any type of bobcat would be a drag. Evil Intent notwithstanding.

  114. Beautiful horse! Ah I love horseback riding! Isn't it every little girl's dream to someday own their very own horse?!

And I AGREE. Horseback riding requires a lot of skill and energy... years ago I used to horseback ride when I still lived in the country and last year when I went camping, I went horseback riding on some trails and man oh man was I ever sore afterwards... You need some serious leg muscles and such... Amazing though!

  117. @Lorraine I'm glad you've got a little cheer ... how about an update on any rescues you can give updates on, if you can't think of anything else.

Keep up the resting and fluids - feel better soon!

  118. Rest well, Lorraine. How about a post-as-placeholder for something you request from us to entertain you? Want some poems? Jokes? You-name-it!

  119. Ok OSS, good idea.

New Post is UP. Go you, entertain, give me love and sympathy!

  120. We've got snow. Not 1", or 2", but around 5" of snow on the ground. Schools closed at noon, and won't start until 10:00 AM tomorrow (Wednesday). This part of Texas hasn't seen this much snow since 1982.

Ariane and Seren had fun playing in it. Ariane made a small snowperson and snowchicken right after school. Seren was too cold, mainly because she refused to dress warmly to go to school. She dressed warmly to go build a snowperson when Don got home, though. :)

Stay warm and take all your medicine, Ms. Fabulous. Don't overdue and have bronchitis turn into pneumonia.
