Some Good Things....
Rode Horsie AnnaMontana tonight and got cheers from my trainer. I am using my BUTT and sitting back so far my abs are challenged. (this is a good thing) You wouldn't THINK so, but the further you sit back, the more in control you are. It's way easier.
I also have the hang of sort of squeezing my BUTT on the way up, and legs on the way down while trotting. Between the abs, and legs, I believe I have discovered the origins of the Thigh Master AND the Ab Cruncher. (very good thing)
Then I did ground work with my own personal Horsie, Dim, I am taking it over now, and doing it all. (this is also a good thing) That has to do with a thing called lunging, where the Horsie sort of walks, trots and canters (and in Dim's case, bucks a bit and goes wild, like his desert ancestors, we're working on that) in a circle around you. You also have a Really Long Whip, which Horsie THINKS could smack him at any point. Interesting sport.
The trick to it is to stay in control of the horse, keep him from tangling himself in either the Really Long Lead or the Really Big Whip AND as you are sort of spinning around in a circle, to do this and not get so dizzy you fall to the ground and watch the room spin. (pretty cool thing)
On another note, remember a few weeks ago when I drank a LATTE before going out to the stable, and my head nearly exploded? Well, tonight I made an interesting discovery. I really wanted something yummy, as I had neglected to recall I would, say, want DINNER, and there was no time. I kind of, oddly enough, had liked the taste of the LATTE thing, but not the head exploding effect of all that caffeine.
Here's the secret: They can make this stuff DECAF!
No. Seriously. Decaff Skim no sugar vanilla au lait.(My new favorite thing) You just, apparently, have to know how to order. All the lovely indulgence, with no calories OR head exploding caffeine. Won't have it often mind you, but sometimes a girl has to let GO.
And finally, I have been on my new Plan, of Eat Less-Move More (more or less, more like eat RIGHT move more) for nearly three weeks now. I have lost eight pounds.
This is the best of the Good Things.
Love and Sleep Now,
Lorraine

Sleep is good - may be having snowmagedden here - not looking outside. 8lbs less of you to love - good on you.
Or, more correctly, good off you.
Congrats on your weight loss!
I love lunging my horse, especially as I've trained her from the ground up - it's been awesome to watch her progress :D I hope you're having as much fun with Dim!
Yet another arena you have chosen to rock and are succeeding.
Holy heck - 8 pounds! Well done you
It's not *quite* no-calorie, skim milk still has calories. And you do need some calories for energy!
Gotta try that "eat less, move more" thing...
There is a horse trainer show on late at night on one of our PBS stations. I've seen him doing that thing with the wipe and teaching people to do it. Very cool. Love seeing this piece of your life open up in such a lovely way!
Way to go with the FIT. I knew riding was quite the workout; now I see why. That's a lot of muscle work. Dim is looking great too.
good off you!
sounds like fun. i have this awesome mental picture of a whirling dervish quiche making the airlines go around in a circle with her long whip.
Congratulations! What great discoveries! And what a handsome Arabian fellow you have there. My Arab is a little portly in her old age (26 in May) and never had a dishy face, but boy-howdy can she prove her "hot-bloodedness" at the drop of a hat!
And congratulations again on the 8 pounds. That is, I have heard, the weight of the human head...
Well done that woman! :)
Lunging is so much fun!! I end up loving it as much as riding, tho' I work for a horsey rescue, so most come in needing lunging before any riding can be done.
Congrats on the weight loss!! :) Riding + Lunging = LOTS OF MOVING/EXERCISE!! If you get to play in a round pen w/o a lunge-line... and free lunge, even MORE fun + running (minus the tripping hazard... I have a mustang that enjoys laughing when I inevitably trip over our lunge line.)
Good on you!
Although I must say that your latte vanilla has calories in it (from milk and vanilla syrup) but much less than the normal kind.
But calories are okay.. You do need them to survive, in particular in the cold.
Hurrah for Good Things, of all kinds! And for pretty pictures of Dim.

Is your horse Dim any relation to the Chinese horse Dim Sum?
Yay decaf and horsies!
I have come to the realization that I don't have a kitten, I actually have a very small and furry DUCK! Ziggy's little quacks are about the cutest thing EVER!
Also, Zoraline wants to PLAY with her baby.
And a trifecta of kitten cute: whiskers, nose, fuzzy ears, and deadly claws ... wait, that's a quadfecta! Just click it ;)
I'm sorry I've probably exceeded many of your regeneration capabilities - we'll probably just have to continue in zombie mode ;)
I am following all the kitty's adventure of Flickr and they make my days! I like that Zoraline wants to play (she must be quite young herself).
@spacedlaw yeah, the shelter paper-work says 1-2 years. Honestly, I'd be surprised at 2, and agree with the lower end of that estimate. She's past kittenhood and teenagerhood, but not by much, if I'm any judge.
Yeah - hanging out on my flickr stream isn't a bad idea if you need your Ziggy fix QUICK ;)
Horses. And cute therapy.
It seems to be the kind of morning where I can't remember whether I took headache meds or just thought about it. Ouch.
Congratulations on feeling great. And on finding a happy latte.
Not thinking about it might help, but aspirin works better.
This time drugs have definitely been consumed. Next a hot shower, and finally some caffeine, and I'll be entirely recovered.
So... Friday night we were predicted to get 4-8" of snow and received 14".
Tonight we are predicted to get 8-12". I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean 21" of snow, but may mean a whole lot more shovelling. A day at home would be nice - I could actually get this manuscript revision finished (working at home can be so effective) - but my boss (who doesn't approve of working at home) also doesn't approve of snow days. We can take vacation days without prior approval if the weather is too bad to commute in.
Okay, I'm babbling parenthetically. Time to go stand in the shower.
Is the whip and long leash thing how you work with Delta Airlines, too?
Having fun AND losing weight? Good for you!
Lunging a horse? I know so little about this - off to the Internet to read more about it. I think I have a good mental picture from your description, but want to know more.
Kimberly, haven't looked at the new pictures yet but they are definitely a part of my morning routine :-) And Steve looked at Zoraline and noted that she has the worried cat look sometimes. Since she's safe now, it's kind of cute. But sad that she ever needed it...
Spending the day with Mom, lunch and eye Dr - she has macular degeneration and Dr looks at her retinas and tries to preserve as much of her sight as he can - she's lost a lot already but he has been able to do some amazing work on her, IMO.
Well, yes of course it has SOME calories. The trick is COMPARATIVE calories. Skim sugar free small vs medium or large whole milk/cream sugar syrup.
Eggs w/ spray vs cooked in butter.
Pasta w/ healthy sauce vs oil.
Personal pan veggie pizza w/ half cheese vs big meat eaters.
Tea w/ stevia and unswetened soy vs milk and honey.
Huge salads w fatfree dressing vs blue cheese.
Eat what you LIKE but make it LESS calories.
You will see, on St Pats when we live broadcast, I am on track for -20 by then.
Good morning!
Quantities are also important, but reductions should be gradual to allow the stomach to return to a normal size.
Trisha, good on you for the horse rescue! People forget that they are neglected as much as cats and dogs (or anything else) and few people have the resources to help with horses.
I wish we had a round pen! We have an indoor arena, and an outdoor one (for the summer, which is still a long way away, sadly)
May be feeling confident enough to ride Maisie again tonight. She is such a brat.
Actually tho, it may be more if I get out there before it is dark. Catching her in the huge cold dark pasture is not very fun.
Morning Nathilie...You miss my point tho, I eat as much as ever, and I am not hungry, I just changed WHAT I eat.
If I have to go for fast food, it's not a Big Mac, fries and a coke. It's grilled chicken salad, baked potato, water.
Dinner out would be salad, steak and steamed veggies. Not pasta w/ cream sauce, deep fried app. and bread w/ butter before.
It's still really early, only been three weeks, which isn't enough to say, but the indicators are good.
Woot, woot, and woot! All fine things indeed. Dim is looking perky and happy!
Latte sounds good. Calories, schmalories-- I watch fat grams instead. Which...is why I weigh more than I should. :/ But on the bright side, I gain it veeerrry slooowwly. Learned from my doc last week that I've only gained 7 pounds in the last three years, and that it's taken me twelve extra years to get up to what my mom weighed when she was 23. So, still too much, but, erm, yay me for taking my time about it?
Maybe not.
We're either due for an extra 10 inches (snow, not bum sizes), or nothing. They can't decide. The local weather guys have decided to compensate by spreading the ten inches out over the next three days. I guess I can handle that-- if it happens in easily shovelable amounts. We're still stuck, though! Mr. Jess attempted to drive in to work this morning, and gave up halfway through. (Fine by me. I like having him here.)
HALF-Caffeine coffee and low sugar chocolate soy milk. I could live on the stuff!
I first got called fat in the third grade and have been on every diet there ever was. Here's what it comes down to:
Avoid:
High Salt
All Trans Fats
Refined Sugar
Refined Flour
High Fat
Corn Products
Enjoy:
Low Fat
High Fibre
Whole Grain
Veggies!
Lean white meat
Nuts
Peanut Butter (natural or w/honey)
Lower fat dairy
Fruits
Omega Eggs
POPCORN- try Black Jewel
Limit:
Cheese
Potatoes
White Rice (try brown)
Regular Pasta (they make it with fibre now...)
As far as fast good goes, there is only ONE answer: SUBWAY
Good for you and your horse! I can't get the Cats or the Bees to do so much......tho baby Rio cat is leaping through the snowdrifts this morning, I'm NOT likely to join her. (even the shop cat has snuck in the house today) It'll have to be a yoga dvd.
Congrats on the eight pounds!
Decaf espresso drinks got me through all three of my pregnancies. They helped when I was craving a coffee and sick of steamed milk with flavoured syrups.
~Valya
Hey - how's Bubba the kitty doing?
Congratulations on the 8 pounds! That's awesome. I just keep gaining.:(
Fighting a cold. Snow is everywhere. May be heading for a hysterectomy soon.(Don't know if anyone actually wanted to know all that, but there it is)
Oh, Marjorie and Siri, who commented on my new blog (the Li Hua one): One of the links didn't post. But it's there now. Sorry for any confusion ...
The city is shut down for the Saints parade and all of my classes for tonight were cancelled. This makes me vaguely anxious that I've done something wrong (almost like a showing up to school naked kind of dream).
Quacky Zigster! :D
Yeah, how is that Bubba Kalahari?
Mr. Jess says Yay Nineness. It's greyscale because the photo came out all grainy, not for arty reasons. Light is crap in here.
Oh look, more snow. I'm all jaded like a Minnesotan now. :P
I'm just sitting here contemplating my 9 project...and listening to thunder wondering if I should be on the computer or not.
wendy - my variation of that dream was turning up to school in my pj's. Don't know now why that was so scary a thought.
After I lunged Dim tonight, I let him off lead, me being the only one there. He followed me around like a HUGE puppy while I picked the arena.
(I'll leave it to you to figure out what I was picking up)
He neighs too and comes right up in the pasture. And gets really irritated when I take Anna or Maisie for a ride first. I love that horse.
Just had a letter from a really nice gentleman with a lot of questions about a book he has written, a military memoir, and getting it published.
I told him you Fiends were great for chatting on writing and he should come comment.
SO, if he does, mind your MANNERS. I know you have some. Well, some of you.
Not Jess, apparently. Woodsman Hans seems to have blocked her on Twitter.
Whatever did you do jess?? ;-)
Ben's in the shower. We leave for disneyland tomorrow...wheeeee!
I added my 9th anniversary blog photo :)
What? We have to play nice? *kicks rug morosely*
Ohhh, Jess, whatcha do?
Good for you for finding healthy, reasonable ways to meet your goal!
Sounds like Dim is in love. Smart horse.
So, new person, talking about writing = be nice. Gotcha.
I'm so tired that even going to bed sounds like too much effort.
Perhaps I seemed spammy. Really, I don't know. I wish I did. Got blocked within about five minutes of reciprocal follow-ship. Never even got to say hi. :( Fair enough, I figured.
Woodsman Hans blocked her on Twitter? He added me. I would think I would be much more annoying on Twitter than Jess.
I guess I'd better mind my manners. :O
Hey, we're not questioning my godlike powers of annoyment, here. That's just a given. :D
Tries to remember that time Jess was really annoying... hmmm... ...
Nope, can't think of one. Must be an accidental blocking during a bot purge.
Sock - Really? You can't recall? I can fix that.
My Followers just follow me, I don't add them, they just show up.
I've only blocked a couple, for saying something out of line. If I know you and you cross the line you get a warning and a query, if I don't know you. BY!!!!!
it's cute that he follows you around while you scoop.
i block first, and don't remember to ask questions later. i'm just not nice on twitter, because i get a lot of "omg drink blud 4tw" types.
Vampi, You get vampires? Sheesh. I only get "Internet Marketing Experts". And as of last week, the occasional chiropractor.
I should be in bed. But I think the dishwasher is leaking. The thought will bug me until the thing finishes running, so I'm isitting up waiting, and making sure no more puddles happen. p.s. I am nuts.
i can send them your way jess...muahahaha
Nuts? I think not.
Okay, obsessive then.
Vampi, that's cruel. It'd be like giving me a barrel of fish and a gun.
I'm the most boring person in New Orleans tonight. I'm probably going to go to bed in about 10 minutes (midnight) and I don't even have to be awake until 10 a.m. tomorrow morning. I spend this night working on assignments for school (while everyone else was partying and parading).
oh god, not nuts. leaks are very serious. my grandparents had to move out for 2 months while 2 rooms were completely redone due to a leak in the wall form the line that feeds the fridge ice maker. the mold was toxic and the drywall all needed to be redone.
\o/ You have a horsie to follow you! How extremely cool.
I've never blocked anyone on Twitter, but others may have blocked me - how do you tell if you are blocked? Is it obvious?
Anyhoo, horsey and weighty stuff seems all great. Wish I could lose some, but even tho I eat really healthy, my portions are GINORMOUS and I don't exercise (much). Bad girl.
Been to doctors to get free nicotine patches today though, so please keep fingers crossed that I manage to stop this time.
tickety boo
oh i tell I lie I did block those Brittany bots and similar!
Q, you have a big puppy! That's so cute!
I don't get much in the way of ramdon followers on Twitter, since my account is locked. I get them more on my "professional" Twitter account, though, but I just block them.
Of course, on my main Twitter it's pointless to reply to anyone like Q or Boss, since they can't see them because my tweets are locked. So I just reply to those who can see me.
Wendy, there's nothing wrong with being 'boring'. If you don't feel like partying, there's no need to. I'm all about doing the things that satisfy me, rather than what everyone else is doing. I also shake my cane at tell the kids to get off my lawn ;-)
Morning!
Still no tea kettle. The situation is bad.
Wishing I could crawl back in bed...
Awww...
Downloadable internet tea needs to be invented and quickly!
Excellent news on the FIT, I am following your example and went on my first run for ages at the weekend. I was definately the most unfit person running around the park, but I shall persevere :o)
Going on a course to learn how to knit shortly, everyone will be getting scarves for their xmas gifts this year!
Hm, I suppose boiling the water in the saucepan on the hob is not an option? (that's how they did it in the olden times, you know, and everyone knows the olden times tea is the best tea)
Camera - check
iPod - check
Comfy shoes - check
Gris Grimly Cabaret Macabre shirt - check
That's about all i need for disneyland.
Ben is so insanely excited. Got even more so when I mentioned buying things with the money he's saved..."You can BUY STUFF at Disneyland!?!?!?" The thought had never occurred to him!
*headdesk* Nothing I can talk about, so just *headdesk*
Finally remembered to take my nine picture...
With tea (of course)
Nat, that's great!
(((OSS)))
Stopped work to look at Nathilie's 9. Well worth it. Boss will love it.
And it's made with tea!
And Kitty's earrings!
NatLaw's lovely pic inspired me to drop my chem lab report for a few minutes (after licking my wounds...chem test today was not fun, either) and do a little something for the blogiversary.
A scosh surreal geek w/that touch of cat, as it were.
It is here.
now back to the regularly scheduled programming. And lab reports....
If you go to the actual Blogiversary page, down after SOOO many pics to the last few rows as of 13:30 Mn time, you will see Nathalie's and then mine two rows below .... in the row between us, just above mine, is a very nicely done Poppet dressed to the 9s....literally.
Some neat stuff on there.
have I mentioned that I want a horse now??? I want to be followed around by something ten times my body weight!! Seriously....having a bit of the green reaction here...
and really going back to work this time. Bye!!
The medical drama here at Chez Jess continues: I had to get a stitch this morning! In my finger! Due to jabbing it with a kitchen knife whilst trying to slice toast! :O
I am hurty, but I will live. Knife safety, kids. That's all I gotta say. Don't use a pointy fillet knife to slice a loaf of stale bread with nuts and raisins in. Ow ow ow ow ow ow. Also, I am lucky there was a doctor's office open within walking distance. FOR IT IS SNOMG.
I hope everyone has tea now. Mr. Jess is sad bacuse he's down to twelve tea bags, and the place he buys his tea from is shut (from SNOMG).
Twitter is weird. Half the time it feels like crashing a party I wasn't necessarily invited to. The other half feels like belming into the darkness. Mmmnngh. Then there's a tiny sunny patch with all you lot in. That bit's nice.
Stale bread is a killer. It is way too easy for the knife to ripped from it. And of course there is the case of the social faux pas: Filleting knife of course should only be used for that. Not cutting bread. So it probably exacted a revenge for the slight of being made to attack an old load.
I am deeply ashamed. And the lovely numb drugs have now worn off my finger. Ow ow ow! Poor me. Wah.
Ack! I had a similar incident with a fillet knife and a pita of all things. Doesn't the universe recognize that you JUST had a shoulder injury?
Oh, the shoulder's getting better! Still pinchy, but it doesn't really hurt any more. 'sokay.
eeee, OW Jess.
I knew there was something I was meant to do yesterday - my 9 photo. Now it will be very hard to be original.
I suppose I could do a stitch-based ninething, now, if I wanted. But I'm not about to jab myself eight more times. Not even for Bossblog. Sorry.
When I change the bandage, I could wind the gauze around my hand nine times. :P
Oh, poor ouchy Jess. (but the no 8 more stabs is probably a good idea - wasn't blood one of the top 10 things never to send your favourite author?)
I need to do a 9 photo, too, but I am not very inspired right now.
Mr Jess is not down to twelve tea bags - Mr Jess is down to TWO tea bags. This is an emergency.
Oi! How can you just go upstairs like that and do internet and leave comments when I'm all wounded and hurty down here on the sofa? I am totally coming up there. And then you're in trouble. I'M NOT BRINGING TEA, THATS FOR SURE.
Oh No, Mr Jess, I feel your panic. A house without tea is not a good place to be. (especially with an injured Jess)
Not just leave a comment.....leave a comment that might divert Fiendish sympathies away from the person who was bleeding!
But obviously it's his own fault, for drinking ten cups of tea when he should be tending his injured wife.
I used to slice into my hand all the time while cutting sweet potatoes. Sometimes blood spurts out of a hand.
Friday is Shabbati Gras! If I wasn't Jewish already, I would convert!
Pat, pat, poor Jess! Pat, pat, poor Mr. Jess.
Snomg is here, as well...and doesn't seem to be following my forwarding to DragonSally a bit. We've had a lot more today. I'm too lazy to go and measure, but I'm guessing about 11 " on top of the 20" from last Saturday. We have cookies, and coffee and meatballs...yum.
Some of it has made it here Dabbler - with all the storms we're having and all. I've been trying to send you all some humidity, but it just keeps sticking around.
Really meant to come home and do a new post, but ah, such plans we make.
Bare with this drought of Adventures for another couple of weeks, my Fiends, and then there will be time again.
DO want to show you the new bathroom, I mean, hello, I spend enough time in the bath there.
The icanhazcheeseburger.com people want to make Ziggy famous ... specifically his quacking video. What do the fiends think? :)
(they approached me about Broccoli Kitten, and he totally went viral because of them...)
well o fabulous one, i do hope you are enjoying your new bathroom, because there is nothing like a relaxing oasis for a nice bath.:)
how interesting that icanhas wants to take zigster viral.
they turned a fiend into an iphone app
skynet begins...
"Siri is young and, like a child taking its first steps, may be awkward at times. Siri may occasionally misunderstand things you ask it to do even within its range of understanding."
this description of an iphone app really made me giggle.
He is already known the world over....go for it! Actually, have you asked Ziggy if he wants to be a viral video star?
And heh, we can all say "I knew him when he was first whelped"
Dear Lorraine and Fiends,
My next door neighbour is a 16 year old outdoor only cat. Recently, his fur has gone from grey to brown. He walks at least four miles a day as far as I can track him and is no longer grooming himself. I have seen him nearly hit by busses and cars on many occasions. I know he gets food from around the neighbourhood but he still looks gaunt. He probably has worms...again...
I have treated the guy for fleas and worms in the past. This time it's worse. I believe if he became an indoor only cat with lots of vet care, he could live for many more years. I can't do that.
I know if I call the humaine society, they would put him down. There is no non-kill place in my county. This guy needs help. Do I call the humaine society and let him go before a car hits him? Do I let him be because he is my neighbours cat?
Do I do something else?
Please give us your thoughts.
MUCH LOVE,
yerseester.
HEY!!!!!!
I resemble that remark.
{giggles with Vampi!}
Don't faint or anything, but the new Bathroom Post is UP!
On a roll this morning!
A very brief Ziggy and Zoraline update on his three-week-old birthday!
This: http://is.gd/8dvri turns into this: http://is.gd/8dvvb and also this: http://is.gd/8dvyf
Two tons of pics on my flickr account, of course.
And if you didn't see Little Mr. McWhappy Paws in motion from my twitter update earlier, you really can't know the true meaning of adorable. There are several videos up, of course, and more to come, I'm sure.
And of course Zoraline is gorgeous, as ever.
Ziggy is adorable, but I LOVE his mama.
It's snowing. For the second time since this morning and this time my garden is looking as if covered in powered sugar.
