Spring Cleaning and The Transformer Room....

It was one of those teaser Spring like days. Kind of warm, kind of light, where you wake up motivated and Ready for Action. I had eight different plans in place before I left my bed (which turns into a couch) and made myself tea.

After making Tea I remembered I was possibly still not QUITE well, and recovering from BRONCitius, and scaled the Plans back a bit.

I did manage to open all the windows (as one does on the first day it FEELS like Spring) and make the Sunroom with my new couch (which turns into a bed) and coffee table (which turns into a desk) all nice and new again, ready for summer with easy access to the windows..

I shall now call it The Transformers Room.

I've been operating on a Plan I like to call "Lob It Out The Back Door" when it comes to the garbage bags these past couple weeks. Hey, it's been COLD and there is about 8 feet of snow between the door and bins. No one but me can SEE this travesty of garbage pile...At any rate, Dealt with that little embarrassment.

(Why am I telling you this??? Confession?)

I cleaned out ALL the cupboards in the kitchen and got rid of everything I didn't like, or that bothered me, or I didn't use. (Been listening to AFP's Assistant Beth moan all month about her accumulation of STUFF and what happens when you have to move. Not that I'm moving, but why wait?) And I made food for the next several days, for me, and five Bengals. (Not as hard as it sounds, we pretty much eat the same things, only I have veggies with my meat.)

I took off all the blankets from my bed of the past week (which turns into a couch) and re-sheeted all the upstairs beds (which don't turn into anything and aren't in fact anything BUT beds) Vacuumed (yes I do know HOW, I'm just not very GOOD at it) Took out the rubbish (TO the bins, thank you very much, no more lobbing) AND did all the laundry. Even the weird bits. (you know, those leftover things one always seems to have after laundry is DONE. Pillows, odd towels, things you've never seen before and don't recall having worn)

And I bathed.

And put on my Jammies.

It's nearly six.

And I'm done.

Love and Spring Cleans,
Lorraine

That sounds like a lovely day of getting stuff done. But I am happy to hear you scaled it back some as the BRONCitis is bad and should not be messed with.

And I totally love the coffee table that turns into a desk.

Holy crap I was first? There must be something wrong with the fibers of the universe, somewhere I ripped a seam, I'm quite sure of it.

Sounds like you're working your way back into the world! Yay!

Today was laundry day for me as well. I'm zonked from getting home late from The Magnetic Fields show w/ Ticia though! GREAT show and ran into Mike Gaiman after the gig. He agreed, wonderful show.

Going out to dinner w/ ben tonight because i am very much not in the mood to cook. zzzzzzz

There is a round coffee table too, that comes up into a triangle, pretty cool.

I am not so into EITHER of us getting canned, Kitty! Tho I am happy to come and see you, and soon I hope!

Is there something in the air? I'm deep cleaning all sorts of areas in the house.

Glad you're feeling better!

Very productive - I'm impressed. I woke up full of ambition to tackle a book project I've been poking at, and did make quite a bit of progress. Yay me.

Started a new weaving project instead of finishing the existing ones.

Had friends over for dinner.

Also grocery shopping, and a bit of cleaning.

All in all, not nearly as ambitious as your day!

At 20:51 Blogger Jess said...

Well done you! Glad you feel so much better. That coffee table is AWESOME. I dig that. And the Transformers Room is looking altogether stylish.

We also vacuumed. Hooray for clean floors! Not so impressed with the amount of LONG HAIR which had to be cut from the roller brush afterwards. This is why I hate vacuuming.

There. Big hairballs trump frozen garbage piles, surely. And anyhoo: frozen garbage doesn't stink. (Tip: bins on the porch are a good idea. Did that when we had the SNOMG and life has been considerably easier for it.)

At 21:00 Blogger dabbler said...

Me, I spent the day dealing with kimono crises, doling out millions it seems) of safety pins, resisting the attempts of the producer to complicate everything three days before the show opens (Always has to be off-stage drama, it's required!), and generally doing what the costumer does during the second run through with tech and first with orchestra. the kids were brilliant. This bunch is so focused and into it. (AND THEY HAVE GREAT VOICES.)

I get a couple of days off to do my real job, and then four days of performances and it all goes back in the box. I'm envious of time to make my living space clean and pretty. Next year I'm going to try a February/March without a show to costume. Really. Yup. I've told them. And me. I've told me. If I can just remember.

My house is in serious need of a spring cleaning. Soon, I hope.

Spooky House looks good. Glad you decided not to do more just yet. :) You definitely got more done than I did today, though I did get the girls' beds changed and made a trip to the grocery store.

Today is going to be some GET STUFF DONE. All on the computer tho, and not very interesting to talk about. Trips round the world, flights cars hotels schedules, that sort of thing.

Yes indeedy, Happy Firbday Dan!

Q - seems like it would be nice to have a not-too-hectic hanging out with Boss & Birdchick & NBB kind of morning, even if it is then followed with hard work whipping the worlds airlines and hotels into shape.

May all the connections work, all the rooms be upgraded and all the cars arrive on time ;-)

Have you had the opportunity to start planning your own European visit for October, yet?

I have a coffee table that's very similar to yours, Ms. Fabulous. We put open baskets to hold stuff like the girls drawings/pencils, and all the games and controllers for the Wii. It isn't as pretty as yours, in part because Don bought it at Ashley Furniture's scratch and dent sale last May.

I should be tidying my flat and doing the great chuck out, not just in preparation for next week's flat inspection, but because I want to be rid of the crap. (There is no nice way to put it.) But the festival has started and there are much more interesting things to tempt me...
(BTW Boss is being described in as a literary superstar in the advertising. Cool, huh?)

So instead I can recommend the Seraphine Pick exhibition (kind of surreal images, dark in tone and pallette - mostly), and the guy who danced with a digger.

At 19:06 Blogger Ms T said...

Hoarders is on tonight. Total clean out inspiration. (I forget why I know this, I don't FOLLOW the thing)

Venus is in a "All the food you feed me sucks big time" mode, and is getting kind of skinny. Not good. Trying everything.

Any ideas? Tried, different tins, tuna, steak, raw and cooked, chicken, different dry....She will eat steak if -I- have it on m plate and cut her bits off, or tins if I open several and let her pick.

Yes. I know. But it's weird.

Lorraine, sounds like a picky toddler! Geez! No ideas here, I don't think my parenting food ideas work for bengals.

Still waiting for plane fare to Spain in June/July to drop dramatically. Blargh. Can you have a chat with the airlines Q? Thanks! ;-)

Got house cleaned up a bit today since housekeeper comes tomorrow and i hate when she has to spend her time picking up instead of doing the actual cleaning i need her to do. AFP playlist gets me cleaning. Then I switched to magnetic fields and all motivation stopped adn i had hot chocolate :P

Happy Birthday Dan,
Goblin Guy who holds the keys
to reality,

or so they tell us.
He'll have that teleporter
ready any day

now. Science takes time,
and quantum physics ain't just
moving atoms round.

You've got to believe
in Schrödinger's cat, the box,
the poison, the quarks,

spherical music;
you fox trot from here to there
like Fred and Ginger.

They knew gravity,
how the Earth's tilt moves bodies
round, shifts dimensions,

spins through time and space.
Listen, and you'll hear music,
four bars in 5/4

time. When the note fades,
throw the switch, press the button.
That one. The red one.

Then you'll know how far
the mind of a god can waltz.
Slow, slow, quick-step, turn.

Jess that was awesome:)
And of course Happy Firbday to Dan.

That's bad when Venus doesn't want any food BUT yours. Hopefully nothing's wrong with her teeth? That's the only thing I can think of that would put her off (well, other than her natural personality;).

That first picture of her with the Vampire Candy Corn made me want to caption it "Venus inspects the new intruder to see if it does in fact suck."

Yep, bad puns r us.

Lorraine, I am in awe of all that you achieved on a supposedly slow day. And I loved the happy "I have found a heat source and I'm loving it" Bengal photos on the last blog. Hopefully Venus gets over her pernicketiness soon.

At 21:25 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

Happy happy happy firbay Dan!

Fablo- would she be happier with food that had a little bit of fruits or veggies in it? I know there's some kind of frou-frou raw food that includes a tiny bit in. I need to change Serious Black's diet to a raw meat one. He's about to stink me out of house and home.

I'm hoping I can get away with just scooping out the litter tonight. I just finished the bag, and my new litter is in the car. In between me and the car is a scary, cold New Orleans storm that has been cutting the power. I can hear the elevator powering on and off every time the power goes out, and I'm on the 7th floor.

My apartment is messy right now, but not hoarder messy. Okay, maybe the kitchen might be, but I'm right next to the garbage room and can stuff dishes in the dishwasher. I guess that's my project for tonight.

Also, maybe I should update pictures. Serious Black has some cute modeling poses with his Mardi Gras swag.

I have no comments on the Marmite/Tamborine/Zombie Pony Wars, but yes, I am involved in the Curling thread.

There's a lot more to curling than meets the eye, and it IS going to take some doing to pull this off. Fortunately, we have time on our side, it being Spring and all.

SO far we have settled on Lemonade stands and Glitter Outfits.

(Sure, you laugh, but we are going to learn to curl next winter. Kid you not.)

Fablor, if I can get the money up I will be curling next winter too! I doubt we'll go glitter though, more likely all black with accents of black, because I'm pretty sure I won't be able to convince any of my friends to do it skyclad. ;-)

At 09:18 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

NO ONE does curling Skyclad! It's like, winter and all!

Glitter. Me and Elyse, going for the Gold in 2014!

At 09:23 Blogger Cecily said...

Yes, most people wouldn't do it skyclad, but if I could get away with it, I totally would. I have in the past made naked snow angels and gone out side in blizzards with sandals and no jacket. Granted I usually run inside fairly quickly, but the rush is pretty awesome. It gives a whole new meaning to "That's Brisk Baby!"

At 09:30 Blogger Hellie said...

Ooh Chilly! Isn't it a Scandinavian thing to heat up in Saunas of increasing temperature then run outside and dive in the snow?

Glittery outfits definately, curling needs some glamour! Fiendish cheerleaders with skelly pom poms too I think.

Briefly sticking my head out of the pile of grant applications around me. Can't I just give everyone money?

At 09:31 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Frankly I think glittery outfits and a lemonade stand are all anyone needs. There's your happiness right there. Why ruin it with organized sports?*

So Venus is eating again, in bulk? Almost sounds like her stomach's been bugging her. Ally got a bit like that about a month ago, when she was on antibiotics. Now she's off, she likes food again. Oh my yes.

I'm with Jess on the lingering bitterness from social-torture/gym classes. Never seen curling, but it sounds like it might not be quite an "organized sport" though. And if anyone could redeem sports for me, it would be Lorraine. However, the commute from Chicago for practice and matches would get pretty expensive. So I can't be the designated librarian.

At 11:10 Anonymous kali_licious said...

Argh, sounds like Venus had a bit too much fiber.

I'm with Jess about organized sports as well. Being an uncoordinated and chubby kid made me all about the lemonade and glitter and not so much about competition.

However, curling does look fairly disorganized as a sport, so it may have a chance.

At 17:10 Blogger ariandalen said...

Ms. Fabulous, I think curling definitely needs glitter. Having fallen in love with the sport 8 years ago, I have learned that a team is composed of 4 people. One of the commentators during the most recent Olympics stated that there are now curling clubs in several states, including Texas! This means that you can curl just about anytime of the year. Maybe it's just one night or afternoon a week at the nearest ice rink, but the ice rinks in Texas (at least) are open year round, just very far apart.
I played basketball in junior high and high school. We didn't win a game for three years, but I still loved to play. Played soccer, too, on a mixed gender team. Girls play rougher than boys, especially when the referee isn't looking.

Vampi- I suggest trying to find 'me time' during your vacation. I have found family gatherings require it. I became quite god at it with the exes family, as they were quite unbearable at times.

Joypeg- Quite beautiful!

Right, the bugs. Also a problem for me. Will this be your first spring in this apt?

Yay for a St Pat's Day webcast...I'll be tuning in :o)

Funny, I always dread January & February as I believe it to be the time when BAD THINGS happen. Irrational I know, just had some bad years, I'm sure GOOD THINGS happen too, but for some reason I form a pattern with the bad ones? I'm always glad to get to March anyhow, heave a sigh of relief and look forward to Spring proper!

OSS: That was the one bad thing about my old apartment. Oh, and the draftiness because there was no insulation to speak of. Bugs probably depressed me the most.

Update: I submitted my Louisiana state teaching application last night, and this morning the parish I sub for requested more info from my school. I'm going to take that as a good sign!

On the downside, I seem to have caught a sore throat. I am treating it with tea and yoga. And, maybe a nap soon.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm not exactly sure what a fiend is, but I often visit FabulousLorraine's fabulous blog to smile at pics of her fabulous Bengal cats. And horse. And bees. (Mostly the cats.) FabulousLorraine, it's your passion for your animals that really makes me smile. Thank you.

The rain is making me move slowly today. At least I'll blame it on the rain!

I'm sure I have tons to do. Instead I'm just poking around online. Offering to be boss's date to the Oscars on twitter. You know, the usual morning.

Hope it stops raining by 2:30. I hate going to the farmer's market in the rain.

What to do now.....

Hi Joypeg!
Fiends started out as a typo for friends, we just felt it described us all pretty well....

At 15:40 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Ohhh, St Pat's day webcast.

I might see if I can get my niece here, we can set up the computers side by side and I'll have someone here to enjoy the webcast with as well as all my Fiends. The music is too good to enjoy it alone, if you know what I mean.

I'm quite happy for March to arrive because it should mean the worst of the heat has gone. I tend to really enjoy the changing of seasons, you know, that point when you are tired of hot/cold/wind.

My mother and I have been enjoying ourselves a leetle too much (with this ... not with its subject): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HM-SumuKIk&feature=related

And here I sit, waiting to be conquered (or was that earlier in the week and we're now under a new regime but I missed it?).

You could try for table-top curling. Perhaps that's what your stepmother was thinking of when she sent you that mini-brush thing? Not that I'm suggesting you swipe it back from it's new home...

Danth, hope you're having a moste excellent firbday week.

Gee, I don't know why but this made me think of The Spooky House.

At 01:39 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I had exactly the same reaction, Sally... Who knows why?

At 02:03 Blogger Dragonsally said...

I'd like to think its because of our towering intellects

HEY! It's getting light out! I can see the sun coming up! Spring is coming!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will do us a new blog later, I want to do some pics as tomorrow is the bog change over here at the Spooky House. Very exciting.

Not EXACTLY ready to be up here, getting light or no...

At 06:14 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Well, good morning?!
You fell out of bed early.

At 06:53 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Yes, the Boss is off today. Hopfully. Looks like he was up at least until 3:30. Not so good.

There is LIGHT all over my office! From the sun! I must find some music to go with it, and my tea. And my Monster Schedule which grew in the night!

At 07:30 Blogger spacedlaw said...

And there was me, thinking you were getting up so early to go out and ride... I do hope tea is plentiful.

At 07:34 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Tis! The tea I mean.

Riding happens at night now. My friend/trainer Mel had to switch her schedule around. I actually like it better, I get done with work, and THEN go ride, come home tired and feeling good..

Easier than riding and going into work, then I am dead by 6pm...

At 07:51 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Makes sense.
Have you found some music as well?

At 08:05 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Monsoon, featuring Shelia Chandra, From India I believe. Lovely morning sort of fusion music..

At 08:20 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Off to Last.fm to try this...

At 10:00 Blogger Jess said...

I should go try that, too. I need something to knock Ok Go out of my head. Been watching that one video too much. They've officially overstayed their earwormy welcome.

The sun is out here! Actual sunshine and blue sky! I can't believe it. I may have to go outside and run around with my arms in the air.

At 15:28 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Kind of running out of OOMPF here. Still planning to do a blog and ride. Or ride and do a blog.

Maybe.
