Thank You SO Much!

Bengal Diesel has been saved! He will shortly be on his way to Michigan, where a vet there has donated her services and care, which is going to be expensive. He will have a home.

I am in awe of the love and support you have given. For one Bengal you haven't even met. So that he can live.

The vet, the drivers, Janet from GLBR and each of YOU, who sent in the $$, each of you, guess what?

You made a difference.

The world is a better place because you cared enough to DO SOMETHING. Our corner (yes corner, you didn't think that whole "Round world" thing was true did you?) is a better place because of it.

We saved a Bengal. When he needed us, when it was his life on the line.

Without each of you doing something, donating a fiver, RT'ing my pleas, caring in any way for one moment, it wouldn't happen.

The Bengal pictures here today are of Bengals currently in Foster care at GLBR. They are safe because we found them, and got them to safe homes.

But they are waiting for their forever homes, with their special person. If you'd like a Bengal consider contacting Great Lakes Bengal Rescue (Or a rescue group in your area) and adopting one of these kitties, who have lost their homes. Thru no fault of their own.

They're waiting for you.

And never, ever, adopt a Bengal from a pet store.

Love and Thanks,
Lorraine

Hooray and huzzah! The cat gods are smiling upon you all.

Such refreshingly good news after coming home from work to learn my mom was in a car wreck. She's apparently okay - bruised and sore - but her car's probably totaled.

Fortunately, she wasn't injured badly and fortunately, the accident wasn't her fault. You'd think being the THIRD freakin' car through a green light at an intersection would save you from the red-light runners, don't you?? Not when the other driver is a punk teenager, apparently.

I am fairly seething - over what is and what could've been.

At 20:33 Blogger vampi said...

oh my jill. i am so happy that your mother wasn't seriously injured. as inconvenient as it is, cars can be replaced. i hope insurance is swift in resolving.

i'm still quite a bit mental when driving and stopping at red lights afraid someone is going to rear end me again.

moonface is beautiful.

At 20:57 Blogger Jill said...

Thank you, Vampi, I appreciate your kindness and will doubly appreciate it on behalf of my mom. :>)

I'm hoping it won't be a pain in the neck regarding insurance and such. If this kid's insurance company tries to put up a fuss [although I don't know that they'd have a leg upon which to stand, considering he got a citation for Failure to Yield], I will go ballistic. And they don't want to see me ballistic.

Once you're in an accident, I don't think that nagging feeling of anxiety ever totally goes away. Of course, that's probably due to the fact that some people are I.D.I.O.T.S. when they drive so you always have to be guarded when you're on the roads.

It's been an Odd Sort of Day. I called someone who works at a company two blocks away from my workplace [which is in Minnesota] and wound up being transferred to an office in Seattle. Oooookay.

This post makes me SO happy. Yay!

Jill, I'm glad your mother is okay.

At 21:36 Blogger bengalgirl said...

LOL, that moon face is because he was still whole when we took him in. Those are called stud jowls. Romeo, named that because he is such a lover, is a wonderful cat that unfortunately has a heart condition. He was found stray and the shelter contacted me and I went to get him a couple hours away. When he was taken in to be tested prior to neuter he was found to have a heart murmur. So he couldn't be neutered but he wouldn't make a pet until neutered so hubby and I took him to Lansing, MI at the Vet college for a heart ultrasound. He is on beta blockers and needs to be rescanned next month. Good thing is he was able to be neutered, which we did. Each scan is over $300, plus his testing, neuter, and shots, he is an expensive kitty that no matter how beautiful he is so far nobody wants to adopt him.

Lovely photos. Lovely news on Diesel.

Car accidents are very scary. Glad your mom's ok, Jill.

My cold seems to be on the way out. Yay! But I am feeling... concerned about humanity and a bit down in the pondering thereof. This blog helps though! People are able to do good things!

At 23:10 Blogger AletaMay said...

So interesting about Moonface. I predict a forever home for him soon!

I would so adopt one if I was anywhere near that shelter. And less cat loaded.

I am happy that kitties are saved, once again, through your calling out to the world (and it answering back with something different than the usual F&@k Off too).
Super Fabulous!

At 01:28 Blogger Dragonsally said...

oh damn, ticky boxy. No wonder my email box has been quiet.

At 01:30 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Jill - I'm glad your mom is okay, but all the same huge hugs for her, and you.

At 07:56 Blogger Jill said...

Thank you, good fiends, for all the well-wishes and kindnesses. I didn't mean to hijack Diesel's thread though so carry on. :>)

Aleta, I know what you mean about being concerned about humanity. I get very down when bearing witness to all the cruelty and inhumanity around us.

It's always lovely when I am reminded that some people ARE good and true and kind. A small light shining in the great darkness.

At 10:44 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Uisge, I saw that, Loved it!

Jill, there is no hijacking thread here. We're all whatever at any moment. Trust me.

Anything anyone wants to talk about is just fine with me, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.

At 10:57 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I feel totally whatever right now.
I want to go home to my furries.

At 11:01 Blogger Chantrelle said...

OK, how weird is this. I'm squeezing honey into my 50th cup of tea in the last 2 days trying to get my voice back. It's the blackberry honey i've always bought at our farmer's market. The bottle is stamped "Stillwater, MN"!! I guess the company who makes the squeeze bottles is there!

At 12:32 Blogger Jess said...

I likes a happy rescue post, I do. Go internet!

Hello, peeps. How are you. I am coughing. I am tired of coughing.

I have only recently discovered the joys of squeezy honey-- by which I mean one of those type with the nozzle-guard-thing to prevent drips, and not a honey bear. But the honey itself, says the label, is "a product of Brazil and India". What does Whole Foods need to import honey all the way from India for? We got bees. I hope it's at least a Fair-Tradey situation. The label doesn't say.

Cough cough gak cough argh etc.

At 13:40 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hurray for Diesel.

It's a bit late but I just heard of a site called http://pilotsnpaws.org/ which will fly animals to other places like shelters or forever homes.

There's a lot of heart on the internet.

At 14:15 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Yay for kitty rescue!

I hope all the poorly fiends feel better soon.

Yay for fiendish rescues! (ticky box)

At 16:47 Blogger Phiala said...

Oh wait... I have to go home, then go shopping, because I am completely out of cat litter.

Ack. Too much to do. Tired.

I suppose theoretically I could get some on the way home...

At 17:05 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Ordered by doctor not to talk. Not even to whisper (actually i guess that's even worse than forcing a voice). For those of you who have met me, you know how HARD this will be for me!!

Luckily Ben can read so I can write him notes.

At least twitter and email make me feel like I"m talking to people.

At 22:46 Blogger Laura B said...

Hurray on the Diesel news!

Hope all fiends who are feeling poorly feel well again soon!

I am in zombie mode. That's what happens when you have a teething toddler nearing two.

At 22:57 Blogger AletaMay said...

Sister Robyn has taken a vow of silence. Could be interesting! Hope you are better soon.

Jess is coughing. Me too but it is less violent now. Hope yours is also on the way out.

Lihua Em is doing science. In a lab. I smell something bee bengal alliance related.

And Pearl. I wonder what sort of recipe she is cooking up in her stomach. So happy that Cabal has the company. Love that goofy dog.

I must sleep now and try to catch up on life tomorrow. Some sunshine would be nice. And maybe some warmth. :sigh:

Be well fiends! You make me smile every day, even when it is cold and rainy. Especially when it is cold and rainy.

At 23:06 Blogger ariandalen said...

Hi, shakatany! Glad you decided to unveil your true Fiend! Here is your white, buckled jacket. Personalize it any way you want with the supplies over there. :)

The cat litter crisis has been averted for now. I picked up a small bag on the way home. For those perplexed, if any: home is a 2-mile walk. But I decided I did not have time to go home, then go shopping so I hauled the litter along.

I was supposed to have training at 10am, but it has mysteriously vanished. Oh well.

At 17:48 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

WHoa! My day just slowed down! Ah-ha!!! Riding might be too wet, so darned if I don't have an evening pretty much, dare I say it...Free?

At 18:03 Blogger Dragonsally said...

A Free Evening?

Enjoy every second Quiche.

At 19:58 Blogger One Sock Short said...

A free evening? What *shall* you do??

I'm about to start Sir Terry's Wyrd Sisters. I'm celebrating the first good workday I've had in a very, very long time.

At 20:05 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I keep meaning to read that. Or any Pratchett. Why can't I? I'm moderately intelligent and all...

At 20:16 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Rather more than moderately, as far as I can tell :-)

Sometimes books have a "season" for me. I came to Tolkien late, for example. Just couldn't get into his stuff at the age most people read him. Maybe your Pratchett season has not yet come.

So what are you doing this fine evening? I'm multi-tasking by being a lap too, so everyone's happy here for a bit.

At 20:35 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I'm entering a bidding war for Kitty's watercolours with some unknown foe on EBAY, commenting about it on Twitter, TRYING to watch the newest SUV,(poor tired fav show) and IM'ing with four of my horse friends.

Oh, and watching Venus and Mim chase Magic all over the house and picking up bits of broken things.

The usual.

At 20:52 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Even at rest you make me look like a slug ;-)

Haven't seen the watercolors, since I can't see them on the Crackberry and I'm too lazy to fire up the laptop. Bet they're wonderful though. Vanquish that other bidder, mighty Princess!

At 21:11 Blogger Fiend-in-law said...

Good Omens is a good one to start with for Pratchett. I understand he co-wrote it along with some bloke who's name I can't seem to remember.

At 21:17 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Oh, a girls got to amuse herself..

Good Omens. THAT one I think I read,.

At 21:20 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

I got my grades in for my first semester of graduate school! I have a 3.67 GPA, which is 2 A's, a B, and a P(ass). I have an update up on my LJ. I have also gone on 3 date-type-things with the guy who is not the 21-year-old. He is a 26-year-old computer science guy who works at a local university doing computer type things. One our first date-type-thing, he told me that he didn't want to seriously date anyone and was surprised when I agreed that I also did not want to even consider a serious relationship right now. Talking to him more made me realize that he's been in some pretty bad relationships with people who did not trust him, and it caused tension. Also, he just got out of a relationship. I think he keeps expecting me to go crazy and tell him we should get married since we've gone on 3 dates over a two week period.

I definitely do not want a relationship at this stage of the game.

Also, I wish I had honey to suck on right now. My throat is still freaking out quite a bit.

At 21:21 Blogger Fiend-in-law said...

More seriously, I'd recommend the Tiffany Aching books - The Wee Free Men, A Hat Full of Sky, Wintersmith along with I Shall Wear Midnight which will be out in September. They're a bit shorter than the standard Discworld books so are great if you don't have much free time - and, unusually for Sir Terry, actually have chapters so you have a nice convenient spot to take a break!

At 21:25 Blogger Jess said...

Silly man.

Mort is a good one to start on, too. Or Equal Rites.

Did you vanquish the Foe?

At 21:26 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Good advice. I do think I should read Sir Terry. Gene Wolfe too. I get pretty lazy reading wise. Need to fix that.

Wendy, it's been my experience that love hits you over the head like a twister, and there's nothing you can do about it but follow it thru. If it ain't there, it's not coming.

And it's kind of like mushrooms. Morels I mean, you just sort of have to see them when you aren't looking. Put yourself out there where there ARE mushrooms, but don't sit there and watch for one.

But that's me.

At 21:28 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

No, the fray has been joined by foe who are outbidding us both. But there are still nine days left...

At 21:32 Blogger One Sock Short said...

But how does one know where the mushrooms are, so one can be there to not look for them?

Don't mind me, Wendy, I don't know nuthin'. Just loopy today.

At 21:33 Blogger Jess said...

I found love on the internet, but I don't actually recommend doing things that way. I like to remind Mr. Jess that he could very easily have been a crazed axe murderer, instead of the nice guy wot he is.

Speaking of love, you will enjoy this clip of a horse licking a man's ear. Awww.

At 21:35 Blogger One Sock Short said...

But, serious congratulations one the great first semester grades. It really sounds like you've found your niche in teaching. And that is a truly wonderful thing, for you and the students whose lives you touch.

At 21:40 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Gah! The cute!

Wonder if he was sweaty and therefore salty. Phoebe sometimes licks my hands in summer.

At 21:43 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

For me, the morels tend to be in computer labs and playing nerdy role playing games. And, at nerd conventions. And, hopefully, in libraries every once in a while.

At 22:12 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

We can keep this conversation going but I did a wee little new post...

At 22:21 Blogger ariandalen said...

Congratulations on the grades, Wendy! And on the three, and possibly future, date-type-things. Even friends can go on dates, and friendship is a relationship; just not necessarily romantic. :)

Happy Firbday, Ani! Not sure my tweet got through. :)

At 22:26 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Yah Wendy, on all accounts.

At 00:09 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Love as Morel mushrooms? Does that meant that you have to cook it because raw it is toxic?

At 00:48 Blogger Marjorie said...

Congratulations on the grades, Wendy (and have fun with your guy!)
I agree that Tiffany Aching is a good place to start, or maybe Nation, if you find you don't get into discworld. Also, early discworld are not as good (IMHO) as the later ones - much less plot.
I have a very soft spot for the 'Johnny' ones, too.
