An Entire Week of Mostly Bliss...
I want to start with my New Zen Crabs. They did sort of start off the week. They were sort of an accident. I mean, there I was with Kitty, who had the day off from the Gaga Tour, and there we were at the MAUL of America, which happens to us when we have an afternoon off together, sometimes a couple times a YEAR even. Right there we were. At the Mac Store. Buying Mac things. Not the computer Mac things, the make up Mac things, face things...
And it got too much. I am like putty in their hands. All of a sudden, "I'd like a jar of THIS moisturizer" turned into a discussion of toner, and face wash, and base, and what brush DID I use on my lips...(Lip Brush??? I can find my HAIR brush on a good day)
Couldn't take it. Fled. Bought the Zen Crabs.
And was happy again.
I know my narrative should flow now into the next event, which was the Gaga Concert, with my new gym friend Daisy, but I have no good pictures of that evening, so instead of Lady Gaga shots, you get one my Boss took of ME instead. You can Google Gaga and get all you want. (You can Google me too, but there are some freaky bad shots out there, I know, I did it once.)
Lady Gaga's show was wonderful. I loved it. Great concert, loved the way the violin and harp were HEARD, set was fun, best monster puppet ever, and if ever you want to see someone play a piano with a tornado of fire coming out of it (Literally) this is a really good show to catch.
(Actually if you ever want to see someone shoot fire, literally, out of her BREASTS, this is also a good show to catch)
Ah, the Fair. Went with the Birdchick. Knew it would be fun. Was fun. I want this chicken. Evolutions-wise, SOMEONE had fun, I am thinking.
Fair food gets a pretty deservadly bad rap. Mostly it's fried and on a stick. Some things you need once a year. Big Fat Bacon. Elephant ears. Cheese fried in a pronto pup case. Have them. Even if you are getting FIT. And shut up about it. No one's FIT was ruined forever in a day.
Then find the Mango On A Stick. I am uncertain they were improved by chili powder tho. We wiped it off. Best. Food. Ever. I am going to make it at home even.
Here is my Mango on a Stick Recipe: (Since I know you lot, you will ask for it)
1 Mango
1 Stick
Peel the Mango. Stick it on the Stick.
Bliss for a while. With your Zen Crabs.
A Bengal. Specificly, F2 Bengal Male, King Lear the Huge. Taken from my bed, of Lear finding his own Bliss on my dirty laundry. (Posts like this NEED a Bengal moment. My life is a series of bengal moments. I live with five. If you are new to this blog, get used to it. They are everywhere.)
And to close, another Boss shot. Tired, hot, sweaty, just back from the bees. It makes me happy too. Mostly pictures of me haven't been lately. I'm starting to love them again tho, so they too, are going to start creeping in more, like little things from the night.
Bliss.
Love and Lovely Week,
Lorraine

Love, love, love the Lear shot - he's so cute looking at you like that! It needs to be LOLCatted!
Are those *real* crabs?
What a post full of fun stuff! Kitty, Gaga, Mangoes, FIT!
Glad you are rockin' it!
do crabs havea name?
lov the pic of you & birdchick.
that's a gaga chicken
Yes, real crabs.
It IS a Gaga chicken!!!!!
Just hot tubbed. May be it for me this evening...I am a noodle.
You guys really do rock it! My life is so boring!
LOVE the pics. It's a good thing you are liking being photographed again. Ya'll are a camera crazy group. LOL No pics of me, hardly. I'm always the one behind the camera. I used to say if I had died when my kid was little he would never have known what I looked like. LOADS of him and his dad.
Uh, Vin, you are a top level Dressage Rider, who owns a Stellar Level Dressage Horse. Three of them actually..
Everything I am DOING is so I can get where you ARE.
Think about it, eh?
My life isn't exciting, I just write about it like it is.
tick
It's great to see you! I understand first-hand the deeper things at work involved in being happy with seeing photos of yourself again, and applaud all of the work you're doing to get to the point of *feeling* good from the inside out!
I've heard good things about the MN state fair ~ I'm glad you and BirdChick had such an awesome time there together :)
Were names ever chosen for the zen crabs? Did I miss it?
I had to go to the doc yet again today and my weight was a little down from the last time. It made me happy. Still not liking pictures of me though.
Excellent pictures of you! I like them.
Were the crabs ever Named?
Do you pit the mango before putting it on the stick, or do you just chomp it and take your chances?
And what about the fully air conditioned haunted house? I am full of questions, apparently.
</ticky excuse>
Mango on a stick. Mmmmmm.
My favorite way to eat a mango is over a sink, while gnawing off all the delicious bits that are hard to slice off the slippery pit.
Belated congrats to Mr. Cecily! Good luck with the move.
Doing pretty well with the FIT right now, but still can't imagine wanting to see pictures of me. So glad you are enjoying it again though.
No names yet. Still Just Zen Crabs.
No pitting the mango, stab 'em with a stick and take your chances.
Didn't go IN the Haunted House, so we must wait for next year...
'Night, sweet dreams, my Fiends. If I had gone in, I am sure you would have been there...
Thanks OSS! And to everyone else. It would have been quite the blow if he had been turned down again.
I like my mangoes still firm. I like cutting slices of them and not getting all juicy. :-)
'Night, Medeadly.
(Yin and Yang? Could call them Yin and Yang.)
"Peel the mango. Stick it on the stick" is song material, baby. Wow. Elephant ears. Wacked.
And Kitty did not take pictures of you? She normally does wonders.
Funky chicken too.
Oh yes...what the hell is an elephant ear??
I like the idea of peeling hte mango, putting it on a stick and freezing it for a summer treat. It gets gooier as it defrosts...may have to try that.
Went to the beach w/ ben today. He starts school on tuesday so it's one of our last chances! I hate the beach on the weekends but it's wonderful on weekday afternoons. Saw dolphins and seals. So cool!
Off to read more Lonely Werewolf Girl (yes, still reading it, not that i don't love it but i dont' have much book time!) and hope that i have a night w/out bad dreams.
Last sunday, this 13 yr old kid was killed in a motorcycle race at Indy. I knew about him. He was poised to be the future world champ...breaking records left and right. No fear at 13 you know. I don't think kids that young should be allowed to road-track race. They don't comprehend the danger. He was hit by another kid in the race and he died. (His name was Peter Lenz). Ralph told me about him months ago. I was disturbed by the fact that his parents would let him race at that age. He was out for months after a horrible crash that resulted in surgeries and pins in his bones, etc. He's still growing but has pins from such a bad break. Now he's dead. Not only that, the kid who hit him has to live with that trauma of killing someone.
Anyway, i knew that got to me but ever since i heard about it i've been having nightmares about not being able to see ben for one reason or another. First it was just him being on the other side of a locked door. Then it was him being w/ ralph somewhere on the other side of town but i couldn't find them. It's totally sucked.
Hoping for sound sleep tonight.
Blargh.
Good night.

also, not bored, and loving all the pics.
Oh Robyn, that is awful and sad, and I'm not surprised you've been having nightmares. Huge hugs.
Lorraine, those photos aree gorgeous and you can see how much weight you've lost! Yah for FIT.
Funnel cake - better than elephant ears. But either is good.
Didn't go to the fair this year, no fried dough for me.
I don't think my fair has mango onna stick either. But I did have a mango salad last night, so I'm good. :)
Robyn - hope your night was free of bad dreams.
Poor little boy - I do have to wonder about his parents and some of their choices.
Getting ready to read Lonely Werewolf Girl myself.
Morning! Get this: It's COLD here. Windy. DARK even. I got stuck in my BED. Thought I'd be sly and start my morning email from my Blackberry IN bed...
Woke up an hour later with the Blackberry cuddled next to me on my pillow.
Not my best move.
Had to shift the whole day LATER, which oddly enough, works for once.
Going to ride, and once I have enough tea, I think I will be excited about this. NOT sweating out half my body getting the horse ready is no bad thing.
Did I tell you I am doing my first dressage show next weekend? Doing my first 2 tests, training level one and two. You do the test AND compete, apparently. Me and Romy!
so are you keeping the Zen crabs or are they going home with Kitty? I've got three at the moment, they're fun and they get BIG!!!! Found out this summer that mine love tommie-toe tomatoes.
Good luck with the Dressage tournament!
Good morning, fiends.
I, for one, don't mind seeing pictures of our fearless leader.
I also don't mind seeing pictures of Gaga punk chickens.
And, elephant ears > funnel cake.
They are my Zen Crabs and they sit on my desk at work.
I'm with Wendy. Elephant Ears totally beat Funnel Cake.
For what it's worth...I was watching the Bugs Bunny cartoon "Transylvania 6-5000", the one with the vampire. Anyway there is a two-headed lady vulture and the heads are named Emily and Agatha and I immediately thought of the Zen Crabs.
I have to join team funnel cake on this one.
My Renn Faire has a stand that just added funnel cake fries! They are so freakin' good. And you don't become a mess when you eat them!
what is the difference between a funnel cake and an elephant ear?
Elephant ears are big and flat, and usually covered in cinnamon sugar. Yeast dough.
Funnel cakes are fried from batter poured through a funnel into a mesh basket, so they're a coiled mass of fried non-yeast dough. Usually covered in powdered sugar.
Both are yummy.
As a vegetarian, I ... don't have much to say on the subject of sugary ears ...
Wow Robyn, that sounds terrible. I hope your dreams improve. I don't blame you for being disturbed.
And wow, dolphins and seals ... such a different sort of beach from our RI ones. I mean, we're famous for our bay spots but we're frankly REALLY LAME.
I'm not a vegetarian but I do draw the line at sugary ears ;o) Mango on a stick though, mmmm - ingeniously avoids sticky fingers!
Marjorie, sorry totally missed your comment the other day - I'm flying in on Saturday morning and out on the Tuesday evening. I love Dublin so much, can't wait!
Our sofa was delivered today. My bottom is now happily rediscovering the sensation of having something cushiony soft to sit on! Although soon I'm going to unearth some more books. I have at least 3 unread ones...somewhere..
drive by tick
Wow - so much happens so fast here! Lorraine, the lines of your face have really changed. Wonderful! And "your" cold snap hit us, too - we had a COOL breeze this morning when I drove R to school - it's almost noon and is still in the 70s. Whee! I opened all the windows and turned off the A/C.
And I really like the idea of mango onna stick. I love the dried kind but it has lots of sugar added.
Robyn, that is so scary and sad. It's no wonder you're having nightmares - I hope your sleep calms soon.
Congrats to the Cecily family! Best wishes for a new era of wonderfulness.
Well, the offspring is off to Ariandalen's neighborhood today for a youth group conclave. Kati, if you hear a bunch of nuts running around (in Slytherin Quidditch Team t-shirts,) she's in there.
And I just finished "Lonely Werewolf Girl" this week and LOVED it! I went to Borders to get all Martin M's other books and they, of course, don't have any in stock. The bastards. Going to B&N later. If that's a bust, Amazon gets the biz.
Hm. Christchurch, NZ just got a 7.4 earthquake at 5 am. My friend in Invercargill said it was strong enough all the way at the south end of the island to shake the heck out of the house and wake her up.
Hera seems okay but she and her kitties are badly shaken.
Lorraine, you look great in your pics! The first one by your boss looked like a drawing tho...was it photo-shopped or some snazzy camera setting?
Love that crazy chicken at the fair!
Hope everyone is well...
Someone's just texted in to NZ National Radio saying 'Houseware all over the place, but Bourbon ok.'
Well, no nightmares last night. That's good.
Ben had a dr. appt this morning and he's still growing and healthy. That's good too.
Earthquake in NZ is not good.
What other profound statements could I make today?
I had wicked cramps this morning, took some advil and now i'm spacy and dizzy. That's not good either.
Taking ben and neighbor-boy to the boardwalk today. Ben hasn't been all summer which is just silly.
Yes, good.
Yay no nightmares, Robyn!!
Earthquakes = bad, but at least there's Bourbon...
I finally faced facts today and have ordered a walker (the kind with a seat, so I can sit when needed). Wednesday at the Farmers' Market was a bad wake-up call that I can't even walk 100 feet without massive, crippling back pain, and having this will help me do more, get out of the house more often.
I'm collecting ideas on Twitter for how to pimp it out!
Just overheard ben talking to his best friend:
"Do you want to hear JAson Webley's Drinking Song? It's not on my birthday CD. I wanted it to be but it's not appropriate for 6 year olds. I mean, I listen to it but some people wouldn't think that was OK"
LOL!
Robyn - \o/ for no nightmares!
Toni - good for you, getting a tool that will improve your quality of life. I had to ask Steve what pimp your walker meant - can't wait to see pictures.
So ... what ARE these sugary ears, anyway?
Sorry to hear about that quake.
And Fluffy - awesome to find a new book you find really fantastic, is it not?!
And Chantrelle, feel better - but at least no nightmares. Winner!
I had ugly dreams myself last night, and believe this was partly due to visiting a place of, shall we say, less than amiable memories, and mostly due to a wacked story I've been high on lately. MY wacked story. It does things to you.
Elephant Ears= many many layers of buttery pastry rolled out flat, and then coiled up into the shape of an elephant's ear, and sprinkled with sugar and baked. When you take a bite your mouth is filled with crunchy, sweet, buttery bits and flakes. (Can you tell which side of the funnel cake/elephant ear divide I represent?)
Unfortunately, no one makes them out of non-wheat flour, so I'm out of luck.
Heretic! Elephant ears are deep fried! They are of the fried dough persuasion! No baking for them, for they are fried!
And the ones at the Indiana State Fair are as big as my head, usually. Bigger, sometimes (which would make them the size of my ass ;-)
Huh! Obviously, I am beset by my east coast background and know not whereof I speak...
Ha, DG!
They sure sound unique ...
DataGoddess...glad you got something that can help you get around...there's nothing worse than feeling imprisoned in your own body. I've recently gotten a cane which initially, made me feel really old...but it's helped so much I've grown slightly fond of it. I'm planning on painting it fire engine red...I mean, if one must use something...beautify and accessorize!
Chantrelle...love that your son listens to Jason Webley!
It did it! Blogger ATE my comment about elephant ears (African vs. Indian) and puff-pastry cookies.
I think Dabbler's EEs sound like those palm cookies made from puff pastry.
And, Toni, I couldn't see everyone's suggestions for pimping your walker - what have you gotten so far?
Got it in one, Fluffy!
Dabbler's elephant ears sound nothing like anything I have ever eaten at the fair.
Fairfood elephant ears are round flat pieces of dough (think pita, but bigger and a bit thicker), deepfried, then covered in cinnamon sugar.
So far, for pimping out my blue walker, we have:
Flames! Also a cup holder.
I'd give it a custom paint job!
Curb feelers and pimp fringe.
Or go hightech with a dashmounted android tablet with satnav.
you could make a yarn bomb cozy for it. Own it with gusto and make it your friend!
I've already decided to name it and give it streamers from the handle grips.
Dabbler, read my comment in Michael Palin's voice for full effect!
I really like the flames idea. A horn would be nice, too.
And a sidecar!
I think you should have a little speaker to play "Bad Girls" by Donna Summer.
Flames are hood. Or maybe dragons or giant squid or cthuhlu ..
Bad Girls!!! Ahahahaha!!!
You should have a red push button on it with "DO NOT PUSH" written near it and when people ask you what it does tell them you don't know because it says not to push it and you know how to follow directions. :-)
I Have seen "Elephant Ears" at the Publix bakery like Dabbler described. Not the same, but good.
I haven't had an elephant ear in years, and I still think they are better than funnel cake.
Right now, I'm drinking beer and eating fried chicken. I am a real New Orleanian now!
WOW, Wendy. That sounds very cultural!
I just received a letter from Fiend Pal Lihua. You too can become a Fiend Pal. Ask me how!
Also, the chicken was Popeye's, which is very New Orleans. But, it did not include mayonnaise, bacon, catfish, okra, sausage, rice, or red beans, so maybe I am not a true New Orleanian yet. Have to ponder...
i am trying to figue my way to florida now my grandfather is going into hospice. :(
i may not be around
{{{{Vampi}}}}
I'm really sorry to hear that, Vampi.
Glad the letter arrived, Wendy!
On a final note, you know what's fun? Being ALMOST a legal adult and still aruging with stubborn parents ... auck ...
Glad you had a really good week, Ms. Fabulous. You've definitely earned it! :)
It sounds to me like elephant ears are the same thing that is sold at Scarborough Faire as peasant bread, though there you have a choice of toppings. Also doesn't sound too far off Navajo fry bread. I will say that funnel cake is evil. Eeeeeeeevil.
Oh, vampi. {{{{Donielle}}}}
Lihua, even after you are legally and adult, you will be arguing with your parents. Well, for several years anyway.
Psh, sure ... but trapped in a house with them, you know ... actually, I think it's harder with the ONE parent. There's no extra around here!
(((((((((VAMPI))))))))))
So sorry vampi :(
Lihua - my sister in law is 26 and has pretty much had to divorce her dad this year. He's a..well...ass really. Hope he realizes he's losing his daughter before it's really too late. Not saying you're in a situation that bad, just that it's not just because you're still a minor!
not much here, just checking in.
Did I tell you I am doing my first dressage show next weekend? Doing my first 2 tests, training level one and two. You do the test AND compete, apparently. Me and Romy!
WOW!!!!
Great fun post!
Lihua, Spawn sez sometimes 1 parent is much easier.
But then, his father unit seems to find a need to take a drink or 2..or 4 or 5....before he can even pick up the phone to talk.
((((Vampi))))
Chanterelle, good on no nightmares, and that Ben! Do you just follow him around chortling to yourself?
Lorraine - woo hoo! You will slay em at dressage.
(((((((Vampi))))))))
DG, when I first got my walker I pimped it with teeny toy dogs. I thought that was awesome and ironic for a little while. If you search my LJ there are pics somewhere. I also got some beaded ribbon to put on it, but never got around to it.
Yesterday at Worldcon my brand new Clarence Cluthu graced the basket and looked good.
I may appropriate your idea of streamers from the handles.
(((Vampi)))
I updated and redesigned my blog. If you want to read about my love for John Waters and my general lack of confidence, you can clickenz on me name.
Good Morning!!!!
Umm. Not VERY awake. There was meant to be more than that.
Still fall here, but a NICER fall, less wind, more sun. Perfect for todays adventures, which seem to line up as Weights, Zumba, farmers Market with dogs, riding and, most likely lying like a zombie in front of my fire with all the books I keep meaning to read.
I think Monday is a holiday too, which means three days where the US at least will be very light work wise.
Oh Vampi, *hugs*.
G'morning Q.
I don't know, having one parent is probably easier for some, depending on what the One Parent is like ... not that I don't like her. I do. But good Fods, I need a break. And the brothers were involved as well. One parent and three brothers? It gets uncomfortable. Sometimes.
We woke up to sunshine and a slow, cool breeze. Yeah, RI hurricanes are wa exaggerated in the forecast. What are we going to do when we have a REAL hurricane on the way? Like dealing with a hypochondriac whose liver actually decides to collapse one day and we can't take it seriously until ...
Oh, hi, Lorraine.
You're gonna hate me for saying it, Li Em, but there's another reason to think about college: you'd get that break.
Oh, Vamps. I'm sorry.
Hello, Medeadly! Your perfect weather has made it here. Or it might be hurricane leavings, Either way, no more oven world! Hurrah. Windows OPEN.
Watcha reading?
Reading, or about to, Kelly McCLough. Do any of you know him? He's my friend now and I had no CLUE he was a writer, with books out and all.
I suspect, from knowing him, he's good at it.
I've read one of his books, Q. The first one, WebMage. I knew he was in your geographic area, and idly wondered if you knew him.
(((Vampi)))
Can't wait to hear more about the dressage!
Lovely fall-like weather in Chicago too. Made for a wonderful trip to the farmers market. Came home with a great haul: broccoli, cauliflower, okra, itty bitty eggplants, and many other good things. Plus, 5 lbs of apples. Love in-season apples.
Food question for ya. If one set some dry beans to soak in the fridge, then, um, forgot about them for a few days, are they safe to cook?
Soaking in the fridge for a few days? I'd eat them.
As long as they don't smell bad and aren't moldy (neither of which is likely), they're fine. They might have started to sprout, but that's not a problem either (and in fact a good sign).
I didn't go to the farmer's market today. Planning on not leaving the house if I can manage it.
Good Morning!!
OSS - If you'd left the beans on the counter i wouldn't eat them but in the fridge you're probably fine.
Lihua - I never doubted going to college but the first year or 2 were less about college and more about living on my own. Struggling and poor but *my* rules.
Heading inland today to my cousin's daughter's 3rd bday. It's going to be HOT. Fun family gathering but HOT!!
I've definitely thought of college for just that ... but mostly I think more of pursuing study ... and looking forward for sure to the Community College class starting next week!
WebMage, that's the one I am going to read tonight!
Interested to hear what you both think. Wasn't aware of him before.
Hullo. Today I have been mostly weeding. Big weeds. Some as tall as me. I really let things go to hell out there this summer.
Bit tired now. Lovely and breezy and cool today, though, and Mr. Jess is off to fetch wine. So no complaints here.
Hello Fiends. Greetings from the land of Sunday, a dark and wet looking place.
LiEm -as the only gal with 3 brothers, and divorced parents I totally understand what you're talking about.
Nothing more yet - brain needs more tea. Then I have to get myself moving and in to Aussiecon, but I have a case of Sundayitis.
Happy Sunday to you, Sally! Hope you have THE MOST AMAZING time at Aussiecon ...
Thank you Em, I will!
Who ho, you ask? New post and it's UP!
Not bad for a Saturday night.
