Weighting, Measuring, IRELAND, Roller Girls and Cabal....
Hello all! Back from the near dead. Am now part of the Only Mostly Dead. You might not want to get this Evil Virus, it knocks one OUT, but it makes me happy it didn't happen in Ireland.
This was meant to be the monthly Weigh and Measure Blog, but since going to the gym is out tonight, we're going to wait in the measuring until I get back from Ireland. (get used to Ireland being a part of anything I write for a couple weeks, Folks)
I did do the weighing part this morning, but found 16 pounds had gone. Which is good as far as it goes, but I spent the last week living on tea and chicken broth, so I don't believe it is an accurate marker of how my Eat Right Work Out Plan is going.
That said, I am down 26 pounds and an undetermined number of inches. And I do know there are inches because none of my darn clothes fit. Which is a problem for Ireland as I have nothing to wear. My pants fall off. One simply can't go around mooning the Irish. It isn't done, I believe.
I got to meet the lovely Joan of Dark last week, if you recall she was in Chicago for a Roller Derby Match and I nipped down and got her and brought her back. She does a blog about our adventures HERE, so I have little to add except this women can COOK. (And make coffee) Strong argument for eating vegetarian. (and drinking coffee again)
Cabal is healing very well! He is no longer restricted to the one room and can now walk about very well, tho he gets a little wobbly still and can't be off leash outside, but his recovery is so much better than I thought it was going to be that first week.
So now, simply to get all my Work done, find some clothes, and go to Ireland on Sunday. I have some new friends already and one of them, @nemone7 (don't know her real name yet, in fact am only assuming she is a she) has promised to take me everywhere, show me everything, and make it all magic. And meet up with Spaced Lawyer, Hellie, Lousia, Marjorie....
I can't WAIT. Ireland, I am coming.
And I will find some pants.
Love and Ireland,
Lorraine

OMG!! CONGRATS on the weighing and the inches. Buying clothes should be a real treat. Glad you are feeling better for the trip. Have a super time. I'll look forward to pics and reports. Will your phone work over there?
sorry, it doubleposted, and then removing made it even worse and, in general, i go now.
You are going to have soooo much fun in Ireland! I saw someone recommended the Cobblestone. That place is awesome. Musicians just appear and play and are so talented. It isn't in the nicest of neighborhoods though so go in a group.
I'm still preparing for HOTR. Can't wait to see you!!
In re: Mooning the Irish, my husband did a guest post on my blog a while back about how he did that very thing. During the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, no less.
http://bit.ly/bpzbWt
Moon for the Misbegotten! I had not, tho it will turn out funny if I do know you. Please don't go away!
No phone, Vin, according to Boss it will cost 1000's to use mine over there. Will have have my computer tho and be tweeting and blogging.
HOTR is something I need to ponder...
Ah. I get it. MOON. Like in MOONING. I gotta stop this cold meds...
oh wow, ireland is so near now, totally awesome! i can't wait to see pictures. i've always wanted to go
figs are evil.
actually they probably are not, but since i was drastically ill yesterday and today, i'm blaming the fig.
um, nothing to see here ¬_¬
tick
A wardrobe, a wee one, just a wee one, is so important when a big trip is coming up at the same time as big changes like twenty six pounds. Yay Cabal! I am pleased.
I love Vampi's smiley. [o_o] Safety goggles.
Recovering....
Congratulations on the weight loss. I always lose weight when I'm sick, and it always comes back, but...considering what you've lost, your efforts are definitely paying off, good for you! I promised myself I was going to lose weight by November and I have...about 7 lbs. Not the dramatic change I had been hoping for.
Welcome back Quiche! Glad to know you are finally feeling better (and Cabal too!) It's even better that you got it out of your system before Ireland...now you can just go and enjoy yourself. You're going to have a wonderful time! Look forward to your future posts...and wow! on your weigh in!
All I can say, Quiche, is that both times I landed in Ireland, I cried.
It is home. Just home.
I wish you love and luck on your trip and wish I were there.
Data, good to hear you are recovering..
Amy, it all counts, and slow is the way to go. I can tell you it is SO worth it tho. You get so you love the gym. No one can get you there. It's just you and the class, all you have to do it Show Up. And you sort of get to love eating right, bad food starts to make you ill..
That said, I have been promised CAKES in Ireland and I will eat them.
Also MANY trips to pubs, but the only pints that will happen are sodawater. Eat cake, yes. Drink, no way.
But, I'm not going to tweet, so will have to wait for stories when you return.
If you return?????
Siri, I feel the same way, been playing the music all my life it seems.
We'll weigh in AFTER Ireland for an official total.
Home with the Bengals. There are MORE feathers everywhere. They are going to slay this duvet if it's the last thing they do. Does a lot for the decor tho..
No, do not moon Dublin. But Hooray for a lack of inches! Sick-loss inches probably not the idea route to fit, but satisfying for all that.
Last week I got comfortably into a shirt I haven't been able to button for four years. I don't know what I'm doing, because I haven't actually been doing anything on purpose. But I'll keep doing it, and cling to the hope that what I'm actually doing isn't Dying Slowly of Some Malevolent Cancer, or the Scurvy, or similar.
So Wobblepup is eating and pooping again, I take it. Yay Wobblepup!
Wobblepup now has, um, it's like poop but, er, runny. Not very fun and no idea why.
Good on the shirt!
Congratulations on the 26 pounds! That is so much more impressive for doing it the sane and healthy way (illness fasting notwithstanding). With the help of your inspiring example, I'm down an entire Phoebe (that's 14 lbs, for those who haven't met Phoebe). No clothes have fallen off me yet though.
Glad to hear that Cabal is getting better, apart from the, um, runny issues. But moving better is very good.
I'm really looking forward to the vicarious Ireland trip.
Don't know Pheobe, is there a story there? But good on you!
There will be LOTS of Ireland posting, not to worry.
I'm for bed, going to try for a ride in the morning. An easy one.
Oh, it feels like I talk about her a lot. But that's mostly on Twitter. Phoebe is my cat.
I'm still pretty sure that Phoebe is actually Edie. Or Ally. Or some bizarre facsimile of both. In any case, GOT to plug that wormhole. It won't do, Sock-- you stealing my cat. Oh no no no.
Hmm. Runny not so good. :( Is it the pain meds? I assume he's still on some pain meds.
Happy!
((DataGoddess))
I got a call from the head of the English Department at the community college. She asked if I could work every day from 8-9, then said she would sign me up to teach a third class if I wanted, then scheduled me for an interview next Thursday!
I hope everyone has a fun time in Ireland. I'm gearing up for Gogol Bordello!
Wow Quiche, 26 pounds is fantastic, whether some of it was due to virus of doom or not.
I didn't realize that Ireland was this weekend - you are going to have such a ball, and I'm looking forward to hearing all about it.
Excellent news about Wobbledog.
OSS, I love that - weight by cat!
Yay for the weight loss! Well done that woman!
Fortunately the sunnier weather (I wouldn't call it warmer yet) has encouraged me to get off my butt and move around more. Walking is good. Also cheap. (GST has just gone up over here; the bus fares went up even more.)One day I might even work up the courage to walk home. You'd have to see the cliff I live on to understand why that would be a big deal.
Wendy, you're going to Gogol Bordello? I'm so jealous. :) They sound like they'd be so much mad fun. Enjoy. And congratulations on your job news.
Good night and happy AM riding!
Ireland! Holy crap! It seemed so far away. And now it is here. Can't wait to see pictures and read stories.
Damn, forgot ticky box.
'night!
I am totally excited about Ireland.
So glad that you are starting to feel better (and Cabal as well). Just in time too!
Hellie? Could you please kidnap Thea and bring her along to Dublin? PLEASE? Thanks muchly.
I shall be your designated vicarious drinker, Lorraine, while we are there.
Toni! Get better too.
Many years ago, I lost a good deal of weight. It was gradual, healthy, all that stuff. But one day, I found myself on vacation in Salem, Massachusetts with my husband and some friends, and my jeans would not. stay. up. None of my pants would. It was problematic. I was on vacation, didn't want to waste time clothes shopping (which fills me with HATE on a good day), and more important, I was not done losing weight.
I bought a belt. A very nice, simple, black leather belt. I had never had reason to buy or wear such a thing before, but it saved me having to buy an entire new pant wardrobe while I was at an in-between size. I continued to use it for the next year as I continued to shrink, even going so far as to have to punch more holes in it when the tightest hole was still too big.
Most importantly, I did not moon anyone in New England for the remainder of vacation, which was appreciated by all. New Englanders don't make a habit of that either, or so I'm told.
Belts are you friend indeed but there is a limit to what you can achieve with a belt. It will keep the pants up but can still make you look like a scarecrow if you don't give up at some point and buy some clothes that fit.
Yay for steady weight loss, recovering Cabal and IRELAND!
I was mightly bummed Thea's show was Friday night myself, or I would have nipped off to England. For her or Mitch Benn, but alas, neither was playing.
Belt is a fine idea. I want new clothes, but not until I am DONE with this. Then I buy me some wardrobe!
Hurray for wobbledog! He & Lola look fetching in their hunters orange. Hurray for Ireland (gods i'd love to go there) and HURRAYYYY for Quiche surviving the Zombie Flu from Hell!!!!
also hurray for weight loss & fit. Belts 'can' help you keep from mooning the locals, but i'm with spacedlawyer...after so much cloth gets bunched up it just looks weird, plus it's uncomfortable. Belts give me a backache.
Also, hurray for bengals duvet hunting! I'm sure they were happy to have their mom home.
Phoebe and Edie are both clones of the Ferocious Monster.
Glad Q and Cabal are both recovering!
Viable Paradise rocks even more than one might expect, if that were possible, but Fods I am never going to get caught up on sleep. Or on writing assignments! Magical ham sandwich? Right then.
Oooh! Just heard my cousin had a baby boy yesterday! (it's their 1st baby)
Babies and belts and magic hams, oh my!
Also, I am tired of it being wet and cold. You needed to know.
I'm with you, my dear Jess.
it's nice and warm and dry here! mwahahahaha.
(these weather patterns are in all the wrong places, aren't they?)
Fablor, glad to read you're on the mend. Cabal too. and happy travels!
Add me to the wet and cold and tired of it club! We haven't turned on our heat yet, nor have we ordered this year's cord+ of firewood. I went scrufting 'round the yard earlier today, grubbing for fallen wood so we could have a fire. Good thing the silver maple drops stuff all the time. (Though earlier this summer it dropped a log through my car's back window, and I was singing a different tune!)
Wonderful work on the weight loss, and I'm so glad you are feeling better. I've had a couple of those dreadful flu-beasts and they are NO FUN AT ALL. Take it easy, please. It takes time to get back up to speed.
Just watched Roy Halliday pitch the second no-hitter in post season baseball history for the Phillies. Sweet work! He walked ONE batter, or it would have been a perfect game.
I have no brain. Nothing. Went for a ride this morning BAD IDEA. Had to rest partway thru, and get this: we walked for 20 minutes total. My trainer had to unsaddle my horse I was so weak.
AAAAAAAAAARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate this flu!
Then work never stopped just kept lobbing things at me like some sort of bizarre game.
Now me and the dogs are sitting in front of the tv but nothing makes sense. I must be watching something too complicated, but funny, I've always understood COPS before.
On the good side, Liousa is picking me up in Ireland! And I owe you a letter Marjorie, just tried to write and it didn't work so well.
It went like this:
Ireland good fiends yea!
Need a hot bath and a long sleep. Sleeping at Bosses with dogs so I can have coffee in the morning.
brain mush, do not like. i hope you continue tp recover and quickly.
found out about my second interview. i will be putting together a presentation about "my product" to give to senior leadership. to test my presentation skills. i'm terrified!
Donielle, Just pretend you're talking to us. You'll do fine!
And, Ms Medeadly, when I had the flu a couple of years ago it took 9 days before I could think again. Be gentle with yourself. And figure you can do less, by at least half, than you think you can, for another couple of days. When do you leave for Eire?
Rest as much as you can now so you're well for ireland! Flu-like blechy sickness is so brutal. 5 days down, 5 weeks to bounce back! (or so it feels)
Doni - Most of my interviews have included presentations. My best advice is to read your notes over and over, until you just need to glance at them to keep on track. Practicing is a good idea too, but I have to admit I don't do that. Not aloud anyway. Will there be visuals?
i don't know. it depends on what topic i get. she mentioned powerpoint, and i told her while i can muddle through powerpoint, i haven't played with it much. i can make some simple powerpoints, but i don't know the fancy tricks yet. and practicing is a good idea. i'm hoping to get my topics tomorrow so i have the weekend to prepare.
Doni - In my opinion, simple is best in PowerPoint. Most of the fancy tricks are annoying anyway.
I agree with OSS - simple is good. No fancy tricks unless you are *positive* it adds to the presentation.
I disagree with OSS - do practice. Out loud. Especially if you don't give presentations a lot. You don't have the experience to judge pacing and length unless you practice.
Q, rest!
I think "Ireland good fiends yea" is a good letter, if perhaps a little low on detail;-)
and I so recognise that confused by the TV stage of being ill. Although I expect wobblepup and Lola enjoyed the evening. Tybalt loves it when I'm sick & he gets to sit on me all day.
I often wonder if the animals do something to our food to make us have to stay home with them. Wouldn't put it past them!
Our wee beasties also LOVE when we are stuck in bed. I usually find myself covered with cats in such occurences.
Morning Fiends!
Feeling pretty good this morning. I have been helping She WHo Owns It All choreograph a dressage routine useing Alejandro and Black Horse in a Cherry Tree.
Her horse is named Alejandro and he IS Bog and black. High level too, and this women can RIDE.
As you can imagine, this does not suck for me.
Other than that the general torture and screaming and trying to get ready for Ireland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have fun in Ireland!!!!!
I'm going to take the GRE now. x.x
Doni, I agree with Phiala's disagreement. You should practice out loud. I just have to admit that I never quite get around to it.
Wendy, good luck on the GRE!
Lorraine, good luck with the packing, etc.
You're going to be wearing black velvet rhinestone studded cords? Should I start putting together money for bail?
Woosh. Hello, I am cleaning. Yay velvet rhinestone pants! Yay dressage! Yay presentations. (?) Yay other things I'm neglecting to mention, except for those deserving a round of boo. Boo to those. And so goodbye till later. Woosh.
Home from 6 days in Maine where I mostly stayed off the Internets, so catching up here.
Yay for weight loss and boo for sick. I have found during weight loss periods that buying one or 2 items that fit (even though more loss is to come) seemed to reinforce continuing to lose.
Doni - good luck and YES to practice. It really does work.
Toni - sending healing thoughts to your new knee.
Phiala - what's a little sleep loss? You're writing :-)
Linda - weight loss by cat? I love it!
Company for dinner tonight - high school boyfriend and his wife in town for HS reunion. I'm not going to the reunion but do want to see him, so they're coming here. Not really unpacked and house is a mess, so like Jess, I am CLEANING! And Steve's toilet tank has a new HUGE leak so he is out at the hardware store. Don't know what I was thinking, guests right after we get home...
Typing here so as not to have to clean...
Wish I were going to Ireland, too...
So far so good. I got a 600 on the verbal, which puts me above the rank I need to get in the program I'm already in. I get the writing score in a couple of weeks.
Maths score was 400. Glad they're not going to count the maths score. :*(
Now I'm drinking pumpkin beer.
Way to go Wendy! Did you have to test drive an extra (un-graded) section? I did, and wouldn't you know, I got an extra math section. Urg. Enjoy your celebratory pumpkin beer!
Wendy, I got similar results when I took it. (Yay math bomb! Woooo! \o/) You'll be fine with 600 verbal. Think you only need to worry if math is below 400.
(Writing score? Is that new? When I took it it was just Math, Verbal, and Analytical. I had to send a portfolio in with my application, but it wasn't part of the GRE. Or do I misapprehend?)
I've got to get a GED pretty soon and the writing is, for me, most CERTAINLY!! the easiest and most fun. I hate critical reading. Good at it, very good, hate it very much. The math is so-so for me. It's like, boring math. I like COOL math. Like functions and systems of linear equations and a wee bitta calculus but GED math makes me snore.
Also, good luck to you, Wendy.
Home from a former firefighter's funeral. He was a great leader in the community and did a lot to keep this area safe. Huge outpouring of emotion - huge turnout of safety officers from all over the area. I am drained to the core - so much psychic sadness. God bless the men and women who work to keep the rest of us alive and their families who live with the possiblity of loss every day.
PS - it's also time to register for NANOWRIMO, again.
It's analytical writing. Two essays about stuff. Brain dead. Drinking coffee. Off to mall.
Also, thanks to everyone for the good wishes!!
Mall good.
I love the mall on a Friday night! :D
i spied Val! *looks for feather stick*
the GRE - i have to think back rather painfully far about that one... :P
happy weekending! my younger offspring has begun it by watching Nightmare Before Christmas -- In this town we call home, everybody hale to the pumpkin song!
a week ago someone rear-ended our car. it's quite badly smashed, but no peeps were, thank the universe. i'm talking daily to the insurance company, getting daily reversals as to whether it's repairable or may be totalled. they sure are taking their sweet time deciding. *mutter mutter*
oh dear. monsters are C-R-A-B-B-Y despite being entertained. early bedtime for them, i say.
Yes, yeah, quite agreed ... and wow, were the Monsters in the car when it was hit?
Noooo! Malls are evil, Evil, EVIL!!!
Whew! Okay, I'm fine. Too many jobs in a mall for me.
Had to google to discover what GRE's are. Go Go Wendy!
Rhinestudded black cords??? What did I miss?
Siri - hugs. I know what you're talking about.
Na, still no answers? Shesh are they slack.
Li Hua, yes, both monsters, both parents, all four of us in, but no one injured. *whew* although my guy's cap flew off his head, which is sort of funny. Siri, spot on regarding all the folks who do emergency work - we met a handful of E-Ville's firefighters, who were wonderfully comforting and sensible and helpful at the scene of the accident. and Sal, no, no answer yet, but i realized later today that it's Friday before a long weekend (Canadian Thanksgiving), and a lot of people likely left work early today. bleh.
so, long weekend + nice weather = time for sorting and rearranging and cleaning before the winter weather sets in. what else is everyone doing this weekend? besides travelling to Eire...
Cooking up a storm for the international food fair at work. (Well. Not yet at it is only 07:13 but later. After the shopping) and as for the rest I plan on reading and napping. Annoy silly kitties. Typical weekend things, that is.
Registered for NaNo this week.
Need at Target: Socks, pants, shampoo, purse, jacket, t's , hair ties, layered shirt thing.
Bought: 21 pairs knee socks, skull place mat, bone skull salad hands, skull plates, skull caddy, one pack spiders, 3 bats and a box of Trick or CHeese Mac and CHeese.
Pretty good night. I'd say I'm ready for Ireland.
Def focused.
Did I mention I found a ride to the airport? In a PLANE?
Pretty cool.
I've had 2 outpatient sessions of PT so far, and it's amazing how much a leg can swell up. OMG. Plus I have a lovely HUGE bruise on one of my calves that is the same color purple as the thingie my mom made for my walker.
I'm grumpy and can't get comfortable or sleep, so don't mind me over here. This weekend will be quiet with occasionally bouts of napping, if I have anything to do with it.
*gives Toni a soothing back rub*
Lorraine, that sounds like one of my shopping trips.
Lorraine! Pack your seal! I got you some purple wax!
Working a bit this morning, then cleaning and then DD comes home! First time I've seen her since Aug 7th. I expect she will mainly sleep....but still!!!!
Toni, sending nap vibes.
Sounds like most of you are having fun and relaxing weekends.
My nasty intestinal thing that I picked up on vacation (and which I thought was over) reared its ugly head last night - thank goodness we had canceled our dinner guests because Steve felt so bad. Spent the night on the couch where I still am - not much sleep. Guess I'll be calling the dr Monday if this isn't better :-(
Lorraine, I'm assuming that you found the dollar special on those knee socks at Target...I found argyles in all these crazy shades and had to stock up myself!
Have a great trip!
Feel better Data Goddess! I'm with you as I will soon be going through knee surgery myself (though not as extensive as you.) Sending healing energy your way!
And a New Post is UP! Guess what it's about????
I am so so behind here. Hard to believe it is already time for FabLo in Ireland! (My friend and mother of my godchild just got some sort of artist in residence thingy in Ireland next August. Exciting!)
Skimming through comments I seem to have seen that Lorraine is taking a plane TO the airport. Cool.
Healing thoughts to all who need them.
Hope you are having fun in Ireland!
When I lost a bunch of weight I found second hand stores a god-send. I didn't want to invest in expensive clothes till I got to my goal weight, but I couldn't go around mooning people, as you say. I particularly recommend "My Sister's Closet" on Grand in St. Paul.
