My World Is White....

SnOMG. Snomageddon. Snopocalypse. Call it what you will, it's happening out there now. I think, hard to see even across the street currently. I went out and took some pictures, which wasn't my best idea ever, but I had fun. (Ok, no, I didn't, but I got some shots)

Tonight was meant to be me going, concussion and all, to see the Chippewa Valley Roller Girls Bout against Duluth. We would have had a GREAT Derby Blog instead. I say meant, because even if it hadn't been canceled, it was looking like me going would have been. Prius, as you will see, isn't going anywhere.

This isn't "The Strong and The Brave Will Make it thu the Storm" kind of snow. This is "Ain't No One Going Anywhere" kind of snow. I would have tried Whatever, but getting out to TRY Whatever, wasn't going to happen.

Oh, if you missed the Concussion Bit, here's a link to Boss's Blog which sums it up nicely.

The Universe is conspiring to keep me home, quiet and in bed.

Well, why not have a little fun today anyway? Can't go anywhere or do anything else. I'm going to enjoy my leisure, while resting and recovering from getting my head glued together. Clearly, first up is "let's dress up the Bengals in their SnowSuits and take them on outdoors for Adventure!"

Why yes, we have done this before!

No, really, they LOVE it outside in the snow.

Ok. And inside by the Fire, with Mousies. Smart Bengals. They wanted no part of this Blizzard Conditions White Out Cold Snow Wind Travel Impossible nonsense. Having none of it they were.

One funny thing, I knew I had at least one friend who is as Barking Mad as I am, (my riding teacher actually, nothing scares that women), and I knew if that Bout hadn't been canceled, she would have been there, so I called her to let her know: No Go. Bout's off.

We spoke for a bit, on this and that, commiserating, and then she said something like "Sure the Heck is Nasty out here, I'm driving now, OOPS, there goes the ditch again!" (Poetry, we're going to do just fine at Derby, either playing or sitting suicide! If you're there, I am so not worried.)

So here I am. Thinking about Hot Tub, and why not? Let's go out on the porch.

And get the door open.

Aaaannnnnddddd....Over to the Hot Tub. Might be TMI, but I generally do this sans clothing after dark. Not sure how that's going to work out for me today. If you can get here, and shovel a path to it today: You're so in Hot Water!

I can't come get you. I can't go anywhere. This was a couple hours ago. It's gotten worse, snowing harder, if such a thing is possible, and isn't stopping till after Midnight. You're going to LOVE tomorrows pics!

Here's some of the furniture I will no doubt be burning later for warmth. For anyone worried tho: Here in the North we know how to deal with Winter. There is PLENTY of Cat Food. The Bengals will not starve and start looking at ME hungrily. Now that they are done looking at me in disgust over the Going Outside Adventure, they are all curled by the fire. Very sensible of them.

See that little room on the right with the light on?

That's where I am now.

Not going Nowhere.

Not minding terribly.

Love and Snow,
Lorraine

  1. WHY AM I NOT THERE?? I WOULD BE IN THE HOT TUB SANS CLOTHES TOO. sorry for all caps shouty, but man, really, this snow likes to avoid and elude me,
    makes me kookoo!!
how is the noggin, seriously, girlfriend?
    i don't like a concussed compadre.
am i going to be sorry that I booked Drew's surprise honeymoon (seriously he has no idea) for HOTR and Milwaukee visit, in January? (he doesn't read my blog, let alone, yours, so i don't worry i am spilling beans..)Your photos are beautiful and i love LOVE the Bengalwear. Batman would remove one of my eyes before letting me dress him, but our Selina might go gracefully into a sweater. Too bad it's sunny & 80* outside!! ugh. i am signing myself, snow-envy

  2. She said sunny and 80*
    ....then "ugh"
    ?????

    *laughing*

Yes, the snow is making me giddy since work got canceled for tonight.

This may answer the "pizza delivery in blizzard" question from Twitter.

Answer: NO! It looks bad if people die over a pizza. Bad PR all around. :P

  3. Yet it looks so lovely!
I must say I am glad you aren't going anywhere. Rest and play with the kitties sounds so much the better plan.

And speaking of kitties, don't the girls look half dashing in their winter coats! So cute!

And I love that last picture of your house.

PS: what about the plowing rules and do they expect you to move your car?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Wow to all that snow..

Hope your head is feeling better - that was a scary tale. Take care.

Cute Bengals in that little outfits :-) And gorgeous house in the snow.

  5. Kitty, I wish you were here too! We would love this snowed in together. And yes, only you would leave sunny and 80 to come HERE in JANUARY! Hello way below zero!!!

Is it still snowing there Beez? I can't see across the street anymore here.

One wpuld have to move ones car if one was in the street, kid you not. But I am in my driveway! No tickets!

No getting out till spring either but hey, trade offs...

  6. Well, no snow here but not 80 either. 37 and cold rain :( I had a choice between riding under the cover or starting a fire in the fireplace. Guess which won? Honestly hard to motivate in this weather. I bet @poetry10 rode so I'll feel totally wussy.

Glad you are safe tho, Q. Seems the universe decided to take care you rested. Little hard on the rest of the city. Takes a lot to keep you down.

  7. Dreaming Squid15:26

Snow like that would be nice right now, at least til I had to go anywhere...

Is that one of those mice that squeaks when moved? Our Seal Point goes bonkers for his.

  8. Wow. That's a whole lotta snow. And I so want to hot tub there!

I am in a stifling hot theatre waiting for the interval to end, too watch more men in tights & ruffs...

  9. Still snowing here. Those in the know figure we've topped 12 inches at this point, but it's blowing so hard we can't see much.

The Intrepid Birdchick seems to be out and about helping the Urban Car Tribe get t'heck off the streets.

....you can work from home 'til Spring, right? Otherwise snowmobiles can be a lot of fun...er, practical transportation.

  10. I spent the afternoon baking. The banana bread should be just about cool enough to cut into.

I made granola too - homemade is easy, and I like it better than commercial. Not sure why I haven't made any for years. I like it not-very-sweet, but I think I over-compensated. It could use a *bit* more sweetening. So I'll have to eat it with yogurt and jam instead of just yogurt!

Not sure who I got this well-dressed cat from - someone on Twitter, quite likely a fiend.

We're supposed to get freezing rain and snow overnight. I'd rather have the blizzard, really.

  11. Oh, lovely snow! We just have cold rain.

Dan and I once did hot tubbing in the snow. It was so nice unless you had more than just your head out of the water!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Thanks Phiala. I think I need to go bake now too.

I did a braised beef ragu and I have no pasta, but I have eggs and flour, so pappardelle is the noodle tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hey, when better to bake than in a big snowstorm? Or any wintery afternoon, really. Or morning, or even evening.

    ReplyDelete
  14. i did enjoy hottubbing in the winter. and who needs clothes...

that is snow like i haven't seen in almost 10 years. i'm now a delicate flower

i had fun watching delirium rollergilrl coffee house cam last night :)
glad your head is getting some mending time

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah. To...um...keep the house warm!

    TOTALLY practical.

    ReplyDelete
  16. oh, there is going to be MORE Delirium Roller Girl Web Cam Coffee shop, not to worry, that was WAY too much fun hanging out there with Joan of Dark.

I have friends coming over to hot tub!!! How they are getting here I have NO clue, but they are coming.SO they say.

I have rice cooking, a jar of toms, an onion and fake meat. Some form of that is going to be dinner.

Unless we decide to go out.

(I SLAY MYSELF I AM SO FUNNY!)

    ReplyDelete
  17. SNOMG! Stay inside, Boo Boo Head! Burrow under the covers and hide till June. I sure would.

Yeah. Okay. How did you get snowsuits on those cats, again? I know they can't jump into the harnesses fast enough. But snowsuits?

This would be a bad time to mention that it was 50 degrees and sunny here today, so I won't. (Not to worry. We'll get ours tomorrow, or so they anticipate.)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Using the oven to heat the house is wrong and inefficient. Baking things while the house is cold and wintery is a clever dual use of resources.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Also: rice + tomato + onion + meat = curry. Throw in some chili flakes and garam masala if you've got it. You're doing well.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Bengals: Snow Suits: Velcro. They never knew what was coming.

Curry? Well, the Spooky House is so not Spice Heaven , but I will try...

    ReplyDelete
  21. *sigh*

    The snow looks lovely.

I am a little worried about how you are going to get in and out of the hot tub without frostbite though.

You have set me a challenge. I am going to tell Tysie that The Bengals let themselves be dressed, and garb her up in something.
You may hear the screams all the way over there.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Still snowing here, I think, sorta hard to tell with the wind.

I stayed in, took one trip down to the porch but otherwise no outside for me today! But Sally it is not super cold, like the instant frostbite type of cold. I think that comes tomorrow.

I am pleased with myself that I thought to ask the landlady if I could pull into the driveway last night so as not to have to dig out for plowing today. That would have sucked.

Hot tub sounds great! Friends to celebrate snomaggedon with even better! Hope your head is ok!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Go out? Are you kidding? Where would you go? Even my snowblower had to come inside. It's in the bathroom trying to de-ice. The snow in the sink won't melt. I'll have to flush it away. Or I suppose I could cook it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi Martyn! I have no shovel, oddly enough.

We've been hot tubbing! In the blizzard. Very fun. Who knew someone would take me up on that "Clear a path to the hot tub and you're in" offer? Someone who could make it over here!

Well they did, and it sure rocked. Photos over on twitpic, search fablor, I think.

Sally, easy: One gets in and out QUICKLY, frostbite takes time. My friend Laura did the Roll in the snow back in the tub dance, I was not so brave.

Aleta is right, not that cold, tomorrow tho ugh ugh ugh way below zero. OUR zero which is a 100 million below zero in C degrees!

I have no slue how I will get Prius out. I have a plow person for the drive, but the car is now BURIED!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Martha, er, your snowblower is in your bathroom sink trying to de ice????

That's weird even by MY standards! Take the ice back outside where it belongs and stop pplaying around! This is a serious storm here!

I have been taking it very seriously. That was a serious hot tub.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You folks have really been nailed by the storm. My daughter who lives on the west side of the Cities says it reminders her of the Keweenaw. Our big storm was over Thanksgiving and we missed it. Picked up around 20+ inches. But we are in lake effect country and are use to it. Also have the road clearing equipment to keep the highways open. I've been enjoying your blog and the boss's blog. I still remember going to see a roller derby match in the 60's at the Olympia in Detroit. They use to be televised then.
    Stay safe.

  27. Serious hot tub? Such a thing exists?

    ReplyDelete
  28. BWAHAHAHA!!!

Just saw Boss's dog video. Perfect music, perfectly captures Darling Dog and Doofy Dog.

    Lola is such a puppy.

  30. GIRL, I want summa dat snow now.

    Really.

    Please?

We got like SO LITTLE that there was nothing the next morning, not even frost. Like, we had a sprinkling at night and then poof. No snow. I cried. (No, I didn't, but I ALMOST cried.)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have been looking at your hottub pictures and Boss's bouncing snowdog video and I'm just amazed - both look such fun, but also I find it really hard to vet my head around the concept of that much snow, especially in so short a time.

I have never experienced anything like it. Lots of years we don't have any snow at all.

    ReplyDelete
  32. We got freezing rain. Ugh.

Looks like it will clear up in time for afternoon activities, which is actually a bit disappointing because I don't want to go out.

Marjorie, you should come visit in the winter. Giant snowfalls are great fun if you aren't responsible for anything during that time.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I would love to at some point, Phiala - I think I should like it in smallish doses, although I'm not sure I'd want to live somewhere where it was going to be that way for months!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sort of sucking this morning.

It would be Wonderful Digging Out Adventureland, except the temp is zero and the windchill-15.

For those of you in the UK and Aus and do C degrees, that means it is FUCKING FREEZING.

Not "oh it's chilly out" but seriously frostbite quickly out.

    And my head is pounding.

    NO FUN HERE!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but my advice to you, Lorraine, is to stay put and don't worry about digging anything out. You are concussed, and don't need to be doing anything strenuous yet.

Everything will be there tomorrow. Rest. Relax. I know it's against your nature, but....get well first.

    I have spoken.

    So it should be.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah. 0 F is about -17 C, (-28 when you add the windchill)

which is pretty much why I'd like to visit, but not live there.

As long as you as you have heat, and food, and codeine, you can stay in and keep warm, yes?

Hope it warms up a bit soon.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
    A beautiful sight,
    We're happy tonight.
staying inside a spooky house with bengals

  38. I am taking that advice, Siri has spoken, how can I not?

Prius is out and I'm working on a new post with more pics now. Nice quiet activity.

  39. My bedroom is cold and snow should come along to balance things out, make it worth it. SIGH
