Another Way Too Many Bengal Pics!

Time for another episode of Way Too Many Bengal Pictures! This was going to be a My Little Pony Post, but My Little Camera gave up the Ghost today and I had to nip off and buy a new one. So you get Bengals, and lots of them! Look for My Little Pony on Thursday, fingers crossed.

That's F1 Magic on the Piano.

Venus, or Freaky Venus as she is called, for good reason, got way to interested in the camera strap, which gave me a GREAT idea. Not sure how well it worked out, but I thought learning how to make little movies was a fine plan. Yes, that is the dance mix of the Safety Dance playing away. I didn't know this things had SOUND, and now, my secret is out. Yup, I listen to things like that. Often.

I should explain some Bengal things, in case anyone is here for the first, or second, time. Bengals are a hybrid cross between a domestic cat and an Asian Leopard Cat (ALC) The F refers to the word filial "of or relating to a generation or the sequence of generations following the parental generation" The first three generations resulting from the ALC x Bengal are considered "Foundation Bengals"

Make sense? Not much. You can read more HERE.

IE F1 has an ALC Parent X Domestic Bengal. An F2 would have ALC Grandparents.

The early generations (Foundation Bengals) , F 1, 2 and 3 are not for people who have had no Bengal experience. I have two because of this. F4 and up are considered domestic, and are a whole lot of fun.

If you understand what you're getting into.

Enough with the science, let's get back to Bengal pics and my new camera.

Madame, another F4 Bengal is NOT amused. Mim's a bit of a Diva, and thought vid of her running on her Cat Wheel would have been much more the thing. Next time. Well worth a look, this Cat Wheel.

Here's F2 King Lear the Huge. His head anyway. In an arty little shot.

And for the full view, here's you have Lear on the couch. Yes, that would be stuffing on the couch. He once went into the back and pulled half of it out and found an old key. Very old. Like late 1800's. I wear it sometimes, thinking at SOME point I am going to need to unlock something, and having read all the old fairy tales, know it would be bad to be without this key.

Here's Lear's friend, Little Queen Mab (F4) They were both rescue's who were meant to be foster kitties, but it became clear after about six months I wasn't going to be able to re-home Lear. He's a lot to handle, and when the Foundations bond, they BOND. He also hates men. He and Mab live upstairs in my Spooky House and are quite happy with the arrangement.

Bonding with a foundation Bengal IS Magic, which is why I named my F1 Magic. It takes a lot of time, and a LOT of patience. It was a year before I could let Magic out with Venus and Mim, and it often never works, to mix them. They live on their terms. I can't stress this enough. You change for them, not the other way around.

Here he is in his water dish, preparing to go for a splash. Bengals love water. If I don't get up quickly enough in the morning and head butting doesn't work, he goes splashing and repeats the process. Works.

Here's Mim in the dining room, which I just re-did to make a dance/workout space. Moved everything out, except the Bathtub. Of course. Where the heck ELSE am I going to put the thing???

There you have it! Way too many Bengal pics. And a few fun facts you may not have known about the breed. I love them. A lot. (tho I do maintain five is too many, and would not have taken on that many had there been other options. Wouldn't trade them for gold now.)

If the idea of living with Leopards intrigues you, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Know what you are getting into. If you read everything you can find on them, and still are thinking "Sign Me UP!" consider taking one from rescue. We have many in need of homes.

And if you're lucky enough to have one come live with you, well..

All I can do is smile. You're going to love this.

Love and Bengals,
Lorraine

  3. Those Bengals ... are just so awesome.

And new cameras are way too much fun, aren't they?

  4. So CUTE!!! I love Bengal posts!

Where'd you put your Dining room table??

I did a trek to costco today to get organiz-y. Bought some shelves and stackable containers for our guest room closet which is slowly collapsing and spilling out into the room.

  5. There is no too much. Only not enough. Need more bengal pictures.

  6. Can never have enough Bengal photos.
And I love the artistic shot of his Lordship.
Where the heck have you put all the furniture Lorraine?
Now, I shall go and watch the video.

  7. I was sitting around on Sunday thinking I needed a workout and feeling really depressed about the idea of going to the gym and treadmilling, no classes on Sunday, sadly.

And I had some great music on, and thought if I only had a big space with a wood floor I could just bop around all I wanted.

Well, darned if the dining room wasn't just SITTING there!

Most of the stuff is in the Romance Room now, but the table is sort of pushed over to the side.

I can never have enough Bengal pics either.

  8. There's no such thing as too many Bengal pics! And I love your new workout space, especially the hardwood floors which are great for sliding in socks!!

  9. I agree entirely with your comment about 'do your homework'. Having owned an F8 for 13 year and been without him for 3 now, I agree they are not the easiest of cats to bond with but once it happens, there is no going back.

You put up with the wave of mess and destruction that comes with them. You live with the scars they give you and remember with fondness the utter violence of a wakeup call. People who don't understand Bengals never will - those of us who do are lost in the magic of the unique personality of the breed.

I've handled an F2 and she was so flighty it was unreal. Utterly beautiful but close to feral, she would never have settled in a house with other cats. I'll settle for a rescue at some point in the next few years but I don't want any other breed of cat. Does that make me a Bengal snob?

  10. The piano picture is quite striking.

  11. Hello rderret! Once you go Bengal you never go back, that's what it makes you!

They are amazing, but a LOT of kitty, the closer they are to Leopard, the harder they are to deal with. You'd think people would understand that.

Thank you, Mistress, I was rather proud of that one.

Little Evil killed me. Killed me dead. Need food.

    Yes, we're here again.

  12. VENUS CHEEEEKS! That is all. Well, that, and also I love the pic of Magic on the piano in particular. It is very Him. Love how he looks like he's always been there and always belonged there. (Not just on the piano.)

And the floor. Have always loved that floor. Is there really space in the Romance Room for the dining room table? Wow. Like a TARDIS I guess. ;)

Sent you an email, Q. No hurry.

  13. i would take on the Royals in a second, were it not for the treehouse escape windows and the scary tall husband. i have to come visit them SOON.
always have loved the key in couch cushion story.
    wish we knew more!

  14. Far less than way too many! The first one is my fav.

  15. I get so happy with kitty pics. I tried to pet Venus with the little hand cursor of my PC during the video but I think this did not work.
    Great artsy shot of Lear.

    ReplyDelete
  16. What did you do with the table?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Love the pics. Especially Magic on the piano, and King Lear.

Dining room workout space sounds excellent , too

    ReplyDelete
  18. The Royals would be happy with you, Kitty, but alas, this will not work.

The table is over by the wall, the one with the doors. Makes the room look funny, but I love the dance space.

All those pictures are freakin' awesome. Looks like you got a great camera.

That key story is too cool. Definitely something I'd carry around, too. You never know. *grin*

Hooray for a work out space! Also, I love that tub. I've probably said that before, but it bears repeating. ~Ali

  20. Can there ever be too many Bengal pics? Although I think wrangling an Aby is enough for me. :)

And a belated happy Australia Day to Sally, for yesterday!

    ******HELLO SHOUTING ON THE INTERNET************************

Sorry for that but I need to get your attention Ms. Lorraine. I live in the Hampton Roads Area of Virginia. Their is a Bengal female here in my local Peninsula SPCA. I tried to contact you through this blog last week. I know you have had such an influx last week, and hopefully things have calmed a little by know. I have contacted Bengal Rescue Network on Yahoo, and also through your local one as well to get started.
I can't take on any animals right know, and just wanted to let you know their is one up for adoption in Newport News, VA on the off chance that someone who reads your blog might want to a Bengal to rescue. She is located on this site under the name Jewels. Other than what is on the site, I know nothing about her, and am homebond so all I can do is call, and let people know over the internet.
    Here is the site http://peninsulaspca.com/petango/index.html
Since I have contacted the bengal rescue network, their doesn't seem to be anyone in VA who does rescue with Bengals any more. I don't thinnk she is any danger right know, but has been in the SPCA for nearly two weeks. I have also contacted the SPCA by email and phone, but have never heard back yet.
    Thank you.
    Kit

PSSS Even though intially you will spend $129 dollars for a cat to be adopted their. You get alot of good benefits such as free FIv and feline Leukmia testing, and a fee microchipping, and free food and a free vet visit. Including a free month of pet insurance. So you get at least $200 dollars worth of veternary and food, etc with an adoption from our local Peninsula SPCA located in Newports New VA for those who love bargins and to save an animal's life !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Thanks Kit, let me forward this one to Janet and see if she knows anyone who can help down there.

Most shelters won't take bengals, foolishly, so at least she is safe.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anonymous11:34

Thank you Ms Lorraine. And yes I think I have been in contact with Janet or one of her helpers. I was talking with one of my mother's friends who wants to adopt a Bengal. But I don't think he is traveling alot this year with his wife and I don't think he can adopt right know.
Though he is telling people he knows about her, as a favor for me. So thank you very much. Their is also a suspected bengal kitten in Norfolk VA, but I don't think he will have any trouble at just 4 momths old to get a home. I only saw him on Petfinder.com, and I can't get over to Norfolk, VA but he has much chance of a home. Thanks again.

PS I think our local SPCA took her, because the director or formal director has had experince with large cats. We have about six elderly mixed cougars, tigers, and others who have lived next door to the SPCA in a petting zoo type place. They have gotten everything from spiders the size of plates to a lion cub, and still have several bobcats. And deer, and chickens that have rescued or donated to the SPCA and their petting zoo. So they might a bit more experince than other SPCA's, we even had a baboon a while back.
    Kit

  27. A baboon? *Boggles* especially at the idea of the combination of baboon and chickens....

Love the pics, never too many Bengals.

Here it has snowed and is now sleeting... And I have had a productive day digging out under my bed (interspersed with digging out the driveway...)

One of the things I found was an envelope with a bunch of BPAL imps. Since I have confirmed that they don't work for me, I thought I'd see if any fiends would be interested in them. I have: Mama Ji, Spider, Bilquis, Mad Sweeney, Mr Nancy, Mr Ibis, and Mr Jacquis. They came from CBLDF a couple of years ago, I smelled them, said, "Nope, not for me," and put them aside. I would be happy to send them to someone who would like them!

Shoot me an email, if that would be you.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sounds tempting, Dabbler... But I tend to react to an awful lot of scents, so it might be rather a waste.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Marjorie, that temptation is how I ended up with them! Probably don't need to send them overseas just to be rejected again!

    ReplyDelete
  30. opps. forgot the tick.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Dader, yes, that's the conclusion I had, sadly, come to.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Have I said thank you for the Australia Day wishes? I can't remember - so thanks!

I'm sitting here trying to remember what I've been doing all day, and having trouble. I think my Kindle is stealing my brain.

The baboon was a long, long time ago, in the early 90's. When I was just nine. I remember then even having an white deer. But unfortunately they had a scare with TB with the animals and had to put several down to test them. That really brought up a scandal for the SPCA petting zoo for several years. Fortunately the big cats didn't have to be put down. But the former director is still bitter about that and does not live the city government nor those on his staff that said it had to be done. They lost several beautiful deer, goats and other animals. They have always had a diverse selection. Their was even a small kangroo for about ten years.

  34. Winter needs to stop now. I can't stay awake, fell asleep at my DESK yesterday and was in bed by 8:30, until the alarm went off at 6.

    Cold. Dark. Snow. Ugh.

At least, since I am going out it is a riding morning, and we are taking pics and doing video! One good thing about this miserable place.

(Oh, my, such an attitude this morning!)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sally, did you see my Australia Day tweet?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Good Morning, dear Princess of No. Too bad the winter isn't listening.

I'm full of songbrainworms today...Step by step it will be done.... and, The world is always turning toward the morning.

Wonder what will play in my head as I shovel through last night's ten inches.

    Enjoy your ride.

    ReplyDelete
  37. We were Fortunate, and only got an inch overnight. But even that's more than I want to friggin' deal with.

    Everybody sing!

    O I gots dem SADs
O I gots dem blues so bad
    But I'll employ relentless cheer

  38. Jess, at least it's been sunny a lot. I'll be okay until February, when we likely won't see anything but gray for 4-6 weeks.

I can handle the snow as long as there's sun at least a few days a week.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh, and:

I am reading Among Others by Jo Walton right now, and it is wonderful. I can't leave it alone (not the same as not being able to put it down: not that I want to know what happens next, but that I don't want it to end).

Highly recommended, and I think it will appeal to the majority of the Fiends. At least the ones who were teenagers once, and maybe not so popular, and read a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Think it's been sunny in Happy Valley more than it has here, actually. Last weekend we had the first subtsantial sunshine I've seen for a while. It's been grey here for weeks. Occasionally it peeps out for like five minutes. Then it goes again. :/

About to start The Time Traveller's Guide to Medieval England, m'self. Got it for Christmas. Haven't read any history stuff in a while. It'll be a nice change.

    ReplyDelete
  41. That looks interesting, Jess. I'll have to track down a copy.

I need to spend the rest of the day writing reviews and planning things, and my brain just isn't working well enough. But I must anyway. Blah.

    ReplyDelete
  42. *smacks Jess with a wet noodle to get her to stop singing.*

We had sun for about an hour while I was digging. Now we're back to grey.

I have made it to the office, where I expect one of my six patients for the day will actually get here. But I've eaten yummy left-over garlicky meatloaf and spiced butternut squash, so I'm feeling pretty happy.
And the ibuprofen dose appears to be working.

Life is looking up. Hopefully Happy Valley and Pittsburgh will follow suit. Shall I send you both left-overs? I'm back to cooking as though there were more than 2 of us, so I could....though I'm not sure how they would travel.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Today is not sunny, much, although the gray is kind of glowing right now.

Thank you for the offer of leftovers -- anything with garlic is entirely lovely -- but fortunately I am well-stocked at the moment. My officemate has apparently even made me a pumpkin pie!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sock, I don't think I did...I will go and search for it now.

    Morning everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sock, I just found your tweet, and now I have a story to tell you.
The Muddled Headed Wombat was one of my favorite books when I was small, and when I was a toddler, my parents bought my a Muddled Headed Wombat soft toy.
One day I left it outside, it rained, and the thing mostly dissolved (that's how I remember it). I was so upset. My parents refused to replace it, and I'm guessing it cost them a lot of money. Taught me not to leave treasured thing outside, and is a lesson I've never forgotten!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Here's something that might get ME slapped.

I'm tired of it being 50 degrees or colder when I walk to work in the mornings.

    Also, rain is bad.

    TMCI:

Kitty has been peeing lately. I'm going to see if adding a litter box helps, because it's always in the same place. If it doesn't, I'm taking her to the vet to see if there might be something medical going on.

    ReplyDelete
  47. How wonderful that you remember the book, Sally! Those illustrations are so very, very cute. The earliest toy I remember was a stuffed Eeyore, that I loved dearly. Like the real Eeyore, his tail came off somehow, and he lost a bit of stuffing (which was sawdust). Mom fixed him, though I think she just sewed the tail back on. No tacks involved ;-)

I will refrain from slapping you, Wendy. But I will send a Pffft. Hope the added box works, and kitty is fine.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think Serious Black stresses her out, and she has good days and bad days. But, so far, this has been a bad week for her. She's the love of my life, so I worry.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Weren't we promised a pony post???? I want PONIES!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Patience. Working on Ponies now.

    ReplyDelete
  51. OSS - my treasured toy was also an Eeyore!! It was yellow - not a licensed toy but something purchased at a craft fair I think. The tail got lost, the mane never recovered from a haircut but he was still always my very favorite.

Sally - I had a huge (to a 4 yr old) Raggedy Ann doll that was left out in the rain and ruined - and never replaced. Seemed cruel at the time but it did drive home the message of being careful!
