Clean Spooky House!

The Spooky House is Clean! And the Sunroom has curtains. I knew that was what it needed, and was delighted to find a bunch of sheer white ones on clearance today. Ok, so curtains come in different lengths. Who knew? So half the room has long ones and half short ones.

EXACTLY perfect. My Floor Room is now the way I want it, and I can type on my Floor and be happy. Kind of Zen in here just now, with all these white curtains.

I am not sure there are words to describe how having a CLEAN top to bottom house feels. Merryhousekeeper, with Spooky Daughter, and Sister Terry Do Not Mess Around. Add in WoodsmanHans to put up all my curtain rods, and one achieves this Zen.

Here's Venus and Mim in the Romance Room, which is much cozier with the addition of the couches that were previously in the Sunroom. See the newly clean Coffee Table Fish Tank. (Malena found it on Ebay, no kidding) It still has no Fish, as the ones I saw for sale today were having a bit of trouble swimming, which is no good in fish. It has no heater, but will have lots of little goldfish in it as soon as I can find healthy ones. If it could have a heater, I would have Piranhas. Might investigate...

And since we are now actively looking for a home for The Royals, here's a couple of pics in their newly clean room. This is Queen Mab peeking up.

And one of Lear, licking his chops. Food motivated does not begin to describe King Lear the Huge.

And a lovely shot showing off their spots. They are ready for a new home. They trust now, and there is a Someone out there who will fall totally in love with them. Mab is sweet, but Lear is a truly special guy.

This is how I feel right now. Zen. Peace. And happy in my Spooky House.

Love and Clean,
Lorraine

Looks fabulously cozy, which is appropriate for you!

Is there an opening in the coffee table fish tank to feed them? Seems a pain to take the top off every time.

I love the stove in the sunroom, looks like it would make it cozy even in winter. And as long as the sheers reach the bottom of the windows, doesn't matter if some are longer than others.

lovely pics :) your house looks wonderful. i don't have curtains, i have remnants thumb tacked to the walls. i am such a mess.

a piranha Bengal alliance would be dangerous...

Spooky House passes Bengal Inspection.
You know, your A Team could travel the world, getting free board and food in exchange for their house wrangling services.

At 19:42 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

This fish tank top sits several inches above the tank, not enough for Bengals to fish, but enough for food.

My team could travel the world, everyone should have them over, I say!

Still Zen, even tho it is dark now.

All is good in the Spooky House, with even Venus admitting it isn't TOO bad.

At 19:42 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Truly awesome. This must feel so good.

At 19:51 Blogger Stacy Hurt said...

Lovely lovely lovely. White sheers make so much difference! Love the fish tank table too; hope there isn't room for paw investigation or the paw of doom might just meet it's doom with piranah.

Yay for Clean Houses! I'm working on mine, too.

Re: goldgish. I love goldfish. One traveled with me from TN to OH to PA. I loved that fish.

I've always relished the idea of a perfectly white atmosphere. But with four kids in the house (sigh) I don't think it will happen any. Time. Soon.

At 20:12 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

White and light are good things, and with Spring here it feels perfect.

I am going to get the Bengals a fountain or small pool this summer for them to play in. Not sure I could do live bait tho..

Hans is going to screen my porches, very soon, with Bengal Proof screens. They will have a little ca door to go out, and a tree to climb in.

Very exciting.

At 20:17 Blogger vampi said...

i can't wait t see cat proof screens. i have doubts, lol.

so the kids were yelling and playing in the halls and staiirs, and got hurt. like duh. so they wke me up and now i'm watcing mindless tv. for some reaosn i like bridgett, hef's ex. she always seemed less dumb than the others. she has a show about beaches. in this episode she took a playmate friend and this quote was priceless. "I have never heard of Croatia before, this is seriously like an unkept secret"

same girl asked bridge what a moat was.

lol. sexy girls, neat places i've never seen, and comedy stupidity. this show is actually pretty watchable.

I did enter to win, but decided that I must not have. I don't usually win good things. I won the Christmas Trivia contest at work this year. Oh. Excuse me. The Holiday Trivia contest. I sent it to my best friend, and she and her daughter looked up the answers on the interwebs and sent them back to me. Yeah. Cheated to win a $5 Arch Card. Going straight to Perdition.

That's OK - it'll be the first time the whole family makes the reunion.

Woot! Wonderful wonderful. Floor setup is sweeeeeet.

Oh! Fish tank table. Well I never. (I thought you had, see, like, a regular fish tank sitting on a regular coffee table.) That totally calls for pirhanas.

At 21:10 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Yup, really a coffee table fish tank. Needs fish tho.

The letters have gone out to the winners of the Coraline Dunks, so anyone who got a letter ought to be getting them soon..

Good eye Siri!

The Floor is good. Me and Venus and Mim are all ensconced here now. Doesn't get any better. Bengals liking the real faux fur throws.

LOL SIRI! Straight to the Golden Arches of HELL for cheating! Oh well, like they say; "in for penny, in for a pound". Next time I'd save that kind of networking for the big ticket item!

That last photo is really beautiful! All of them are -- I can almost smell the clean and the sun and the bright. But that last one is pure art.

I did not accomplish nearly as much with my home today but did get some cleaning done. More tomorrow.

After we move and figure out where we're going to be long-term, I want to keep a nano reef or other reef tank. Probably not in a coffee table, though! SO COOL!

Peter and I are trying to learn to play Go and man, the games with the simple rules are the hardest, aren't they?

Off to SF in the morning. Sigh.

At 23:33 Blogger ariandalen said...

I agree with Aleta, that last photo says it all. :)

Good job getting the shot!

I would offer the ToC to come south on I-35, but then I wouldn't be in Minnesota in June, so I'll have to deal. ;)

Yay for clean spookey house and new curtians. If Merry Housekeeper & Spooky Daughter & Terry are planning a world tour I so want them to come to visit and transform my house too!

Feeling grumpy as I got a new message from Tiscali to say they can't/won't restore my internet access so nothing until 6th april (except, like now, when I'm visiting friends - or at work!) Grrr.

And Judi Dench has sprained her ankle so we got her understudy last night....

*sigh*

At least the sun is shining!

Is it totally wrong to be so jealous of TOC? The house looks great! Glad to hear that I may still be in the running for the Coraline Dunks! Oh please, oh please... Sorry Marjorie, that sucks :(

At 09:47 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I really liked the shot of Venus in the curtain too, I knew when I saw her there if she didn't move I could take a great shot, sometimes the magic is there...

Good Morning!

Very motivated day here, and I get to get a Boss and a Mads at the end of it, so all is well here.

know there is more to say, but I am thinking it needs tea first..

At 09:56 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Oh Marjorie, way no fun! On both counts!

Wicked, don't be jealous, hire some TOC! Don't hire a "company" all you are doing there is paying some one way too much, who pays the people who clean way too little.

Find a local person who has their own small business. They will want to keep your business and will do a great job for far less $$. Or a teenager in need of a job.

We work really hard, why spend what little time off we have trying to clean the house we have not much time to spend in???

At 09:58 Blogger Dan Guy said...

Good morning!

It's another low-key day at casa de Danth. Lori, Xander, and Molly don't get home until tonight so I'm taking it slow, eating too much, and catching up on movies.

At 10:02 Blogger Jess said...

*Flee!*

Good morning! That is indeed a lovely shot of Venus.

No motivation here yet. I'm just suckin' denatured alcohol fumes, because Dad is the Shellac Master. Window trim now looks Awesome. Later today my guest room baseboards head off to his famous basement Wood Spa, and I will be baseboardless.

Later I will Laundry, and Garden, if I can summon the will.

What's everyone else up to?

I'm waiting in standby hell at the airport because I was too slow getting out of the house this morning. Partially think I self-sabotaged because I don't really want to go. Needed the relaxing weekend between conferences and didn't get it.

If I don't get on this flight I'm calling the airline to try to trade up for a first class ticket with my frequent flier miles for the next flight.

At 10:14 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Dan, perfect day!

Adri, best of luck, you so have to comment from first if you get it, no reason not to travel nice especially if you don't like where you are going.

It's so nice today I am taking the dog for a long woods walk, and then doing work things until it's time to get Boss from the airport.

At 12:06 Blogger Adri said...

Y'all, I don't remember if Q's airline travel post mentioned this, but if you do get stuck in an airport, it's totally worth it to buy a day pass to the dominant airline's elite club. Not only will your wait be much more pleasant (she says in a comfy chair, via free wifi, while eating cheese and drinking a complimentary bloody Mary for breakfast), the agents in the club will give fixing your travel plans priority.

The house looks gorgeous! There is nothing better than coming home to a nice, tidy place. Sometimes I force myself to clean just before I go on vacation, so when I come home everything's in its place. Almost nothing better.

Adri- that sounds like excellent advice. I can't wait until I'm flying again to try out helpful fiend hints.

Fiends, I have a twitter, just so you know. I have a personal one that just links with my family/very close friends, and after a long debate I decided to make a new one that could be used more publicly.

Blah, blah, blah. In short, "El-in" on twitter is me and I'll be coming 'round to find you if you don't find me first.

Hey Fiends, I thought some of you might be interested in following my friend Daniel as he blogs his experiences in Ghana. He is there doing art and learning about the country and people.

This blog is interesting for anyone but is particularly aimed at younger people. Those of you with kids might find it especially interesting.

Daniel is a dear friend who lives life in a way few people are able to. I think you'll enjoy reading about his adventure and sharing it with others.

(Hope this is okay Lorraine! You may remember Daniel from AFP and The Brookside.)

Best comnment: "I learned things I didn't even know existed."

And now... comments and twitters and emails to read....

good morning al! Phiala, congrats on a successful workshop! I bet your students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The house looks lovely Lorraine, i do love sheers on windows. I overslept, agh, and now must quickly get ready to work-have a great day all!

At 06:50 Blogger Jess said...

Good morning. Who's awake? Sue's awake. And Marjorie's awake. I'm only sort of awake, but working on that.

I'd like to know what was in the smeal. Did my Moroccan chicken tagine thing the other night and threw some yam in it because I was out of couscous (which is what we normally have with it). That was sort of smealy. Especially as the sauce never comes out as thick as I'd like.

Hooray Phiala! That's exciting. Glad it went so well. :)

Thanks to Aleta I've just learned that people hiss at each other in Ghana. Sss.

At 06:55 Blogger Phiala said...

I'm awake. I should be on the way to work right now, but am still lolling around in sweats. I don't feel too guilty, as tomorrow I have to be at work at 7am to leave for New Hampshire, but I suppose that I should shower and dress sometime in the near future.

Jess, I read that as "threw some yarn in", twice. Yarn is frequently found simmering on my stove, but it neither looks nor smells like food.

At 07:02 Blogger louisa said...

Morning all. I'm awake. I think. I had Lithuanian honey with my tea (herbal not black), it was d'lish.

Congrats on the successful weekend Phiala, so satisfying to inspire others.

Does anyone have any spare motivation?

At 07:05 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Oooh.. Tea.
I have motivation for tea.
And for art.

Not for the bullying of mad rocket engineers, sadly.

At 07:08 Blogger Phiala said...

Motivation? None here. And still no on the way to work.

I need a day off.

Worked all week. Drove to Poughkeepsie on Friday, taught weaving, drove back Sunday (5 hours one way). Worked all week, drove to Butler, taught weaving for two full days, drove home Sunday evening (3 hours one way). Work today. Drive to New Hampshire tomorrow (8 hours? but someone else will be made to drive), meet with people on Wednesday, drive back Thursday. Work half of Friday, drive to Buffalo (4 hours), judge fiber arts competition on Saturday, drive home on Sunday, go to work on Monday.

I'm missing the part where I get to sleep... who put together my schedule this month??? Oh, right - my own fault. But you see, no *possibility* of motivation...

At 07:40 Blogger louisa said...

No? None to spare at all? Well then... I'm just going to have to.... do.... something. eventually.

At 07:43 Blogger dabbler said...

No motivation here either. DS left to return to college, six hours away, at 8pm last night, driving first 45 minutes the opposite direction to return non-girl-friend's laptop which he spent 20+ hours removing viruses from.

At 1:30 am we got a call from him, wondering if there was something wrong with the registration for his car, since the State Trooper who stopped him for speeding thought there was.... Not so far as we know, says his Dad. (Phone is on his side of bed!)

Finally got back to school at 5 am. With some sort of ticket, maybe two?

I'm tired!

At 07:53 Blogger Jess said...

Yam, Phiala. Y-A-M, yam. Yarn tagine would not be tasty. :D

What we need, Nathalie, is a way to turn the bullying of mad rocket engineers into art. Would it be possible to intimidate them via some sort of interpretive dance?

At 08:10 Blogger spacedlaw said...

If it involve the wielding of large clubs and a whip, it might.
I am not feeling lucky though.

At 08:19 Blogger dabbler said...

Too bad. Interpretive dance certainly intimidates ME. If I have to do it, that is...

At 08:22 Blogger louisa said...

I'm pretty certain *I'd* be motivated by interpretive dance with large clubs and whips. Not so certain as to exactly what I'd be motivated to do though, probably not rocket engineering.

At 08:29 Blogger Jess said...

Yeah. You don't really want a rocket engineer thinking about you and a bullwhip after you've left the room.

At 08:30 Blogger DataGoddess said...

LOL - did I mention my sweetie is a rocket scientist? ;-)

At 08:41 Blogger Marjorie said...

What is this' motivation' of which you speak?

If there is to be interpretive dance I am going to go back to bed and hide under the bedclothes until it goes away.

At 09:08 Blogger Phiala said...

No motivation.

No interpretive dance.

I'm feeling negative today, apparently. :)

And Jess, who CARES if yarn tagine is tasty? The important question is whether it makes the yarn a pretty color!

I am now at work. Clean, even. And in possession of a large mug of coffee. But not in possession of any teensy shred of motivation. Fortunately I have a stack of braindead projects for just such an occasion. And I can twitter and email and comment while doing them, and nobody will notice, and it won't interfere greatly with my productivity. Such as it is.

At 09:13 Blogger dabbler said...

Off to work myself...yawning.Enjoyable unmotivated day to all!

At 09:19 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

HA! Got up, fed the Bengals, cleaned all the litter boxes, started laundry, dug into e-mail all BEFORE tea.

Weird night tho, DREAMS like a serial......

At 09:43 Blogger Marjorie said...

Sorry, I need to hang on to my motivation, at least, some of it. Got a deadline today, which as a point of professional pride I cannot let whoosh past.

I don't think I've commented on the lovely pictures much. I love the jewel earth tones all through your home, Q. And the sun porch--I get why you'd want to spend a LOT of time in there, especially now it's rearranged and cleaned and sheered.

We've fresh snow on the ground, and kitty prints in it this morning. I see that a neighborhood kitty is back to its usual route; past the garage, up a certain walk here, a turning there, always indicating the same direction of travel. Cats. >^..^<

so today i spent a day with Jon outside. We went to Olvera street, historic Los angeles downtown area, and to a public park near china town to walk in wild flowers.

a year ago today, my friend Carol lost her battle with cancer. She had been very ill for a long time. I had just moved to California and was unable to go back for her funeral. I didn't know what to do, where to go, how to deal with my grief. So Jon took me to a new La park, to walk in the sunshine amongst the wild flowers. This year we went back to that park and walked around. In May i will be walking the La Revlon 5k for women's cancer research in her honor. Today i think about how lucky i was to have carol in my life. I also take this time to reflect on all of my friends and how lucky i am to know such wonderful people.
