Home Again!

Home now! And glad of it, long day. Got lots done, and won mostly. Had a few surprises.

I bought some clothes a while back and got one of their credit cards, as they were offering Great Deals if you did. I then wrote a check for the full amount when the bill came and sent it off. January 16th. Got a photo copy of it today from the Post Office Dead Letter Office. OOPS!

Nice company canceled all interest and fees, but what is UP with my financial karma these days???? It's like some sort of House of Cards coming down...Think everything is sorted tho. Mostly.

There was the BEST moon coming home, hung low in the sky bright, round and gold, like a, uh, bright round gold thing. Made me happy anyway.

Magic came out and played Featherstick. The got IN his water dish (A dishpan, he likes it) all four feet to have his drink. Will get him a wading pool this summer.

I recently heard about a lady who was selling her F1 Bengal, not because of any problems with him, except she thought he would get along with her BIRDS, but he didn't. He kept going for them.

I almost don't want to say anything else.

Almost.

Move the birds to their own room. Re-home the birds, they won't care. A bond with an F1 is very strong, and very, very permanent, if it can be made. They DO NOT re-home well. WHY would someone take on an F1 (or any Bengal or even CAT) with birds?????? Cats-birds. Well documented. Not friends. Poor guy. Fortunately, I think we got him and he is in rescue with people who know what they are doing now.

Rant over.

Talked with Boss today. Tired and sad, but holding up well. Cards can be sent, for those who have been asking to Neil c/o Elyse Marshell HarperCollinsChildrensBooks 1350 Avenue of the Americas 2nd fl. NY NY 10019. We will let you know as soon as there is information on the charity of his Fathers wishes and such, for donations, again, for those who have been asking.

And in closing, I am at 290 Followers on Twitter now! Who knew!!! 10 more and there will be 300 people out there Following me! Or Flowers as one person called them.

I want more Flowers. Like that.

Love and Home,
Lorraine

Lovely moon indeed. Glad you are home... I'm going to bed, now that I've ticky boxed....

Oh and Ariandalen - I have been not speaking to you for putting that earwig in my head. Didn't you notice me shunning you?

How could you do that to us?

*facepalm* Someone seriously thought any cat was going to get along with birds, let alone an F1 bengal?? Did this person never watch Sylvester & Tweety???

I hope you get a work break soon, I'm thinking you haven't really had a chance to catch your breath since Boss won the Newbery, have you?

No, haven't had much down time. But we don't want to get bored now do we???

Talked with a reporter today who irritates me still. Explained Boss had lost his Father and was not doing media right now as he was over burying him.

He asked "Does this mean I don't get the interview."

No, this means you will NEVER get the interview.

I will pay ANYONE one million $$ if they can get the Free Credit Report .com song out of my head.

Please.

Ooooh, Magic is a wader. Woohoo! Kitty in da water! I saw that moon on my way home from rehearsal this evening. Mmmhmm.

And that is why you are awesome. Thinking warm thoughts for Boss and family and you there holding down the fort.

And bengals. Always for bengals.

At 22:26 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Thanks Bridget, Magic never fails to amaze me. Venus is in my lap, not a Bengal thing generally. I think she is going for a game of Draw Blood tho, she lies on her back and digs in with claws and teeth, lol.

I have power. And know when to use it.

Nice moon. We likes her.

At 22:30 Blogger ariandalen said...

Well, Siri, it was running through my head...

What can I say? I'm a Fiend. ::evil grin::

Hmmmmm...I wonder who else is shunning me? ::sigh:: I suppose everyone in North America.

I think someone forgot to explain Predators and Prey to that woman who gave up her F1 Bengal, and which categories cats and birds belong in. ::head desk::

Glad you finally got to get home, Ms. Fabulous. :)

I've been wrangling daughters today. Working on them to go through all their stuff in their bedroom. We need to find DD2's Leapster that she got for Christmas. It's been missing for around a month now. Three, or four, more baskets and one large toybox to go through tomorrow. Oh, joy.

At 22:33 Blogger AletaMay said...

While money can't really make you happy money problems can certainly make you unhappy!

Glad you won mostly.

Odd that someone would not think about the potential problems with having both an F1 and birds. But people (myself included) don't really always think things through I guess.

At 22:41 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I don't THINK I am against you, Adriandalen, should I be???

I know, Aleta, it was like HELLO?????

And money can't make you happy, but sometimes if you can throw some at a problem and make it good, that is no bad thing.

At 22:53 Blogger Na said...

Oh dear. Sure, ::head desk:: for Ms Birds+Bengals. But Mr Reporter just failed Humanity 101.

Moon was stunning, big and bright last night. We were getting home after nightfall. Walking toward the house I thought of getting online to see what folks were up to. I thought of Q and fiends, how we are scattered around the globe, but it's the same moon shining. Tonight it's hidden from me by frosty skies, but I know it's still there.

At 22:58 Blogger Adri said...

Reading about someone selling a bonded F1 makes me want to punch things more than I already did, which was a lot.

But, I am trying to put that aside and have been happily on the couch with two of my cats, who are flopped on top of each other and purring. Cats sure go a long way to helping me feel better. Being inside with tea on a rainy night also nice.

Hope everyone else's day was good!

At 22:59 Blogger ariandalen said...

I don't know, Ms. Fabulous. Did you read my next to last comment/song last night? Even if you did, it's possible that you didn't recognize it, but I did write an explanation on the previous post as you were uploading this one. ;)

At 23:11 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Same moon.

Wishing everyone had moons and Bengals..

Adriandalen, might have missed that...

At 23:25 Blogger ariandalen said...

Right now, we have better than moon. We have RAIN! :)

I'd offer to repeat, Ms. Fabulous, but Siri might come after me.

At 23:45 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

She might. Good for the rain down there tho, you need it...

'Night all!

At 23:48 Blogger Dragonsally said...

We had lots of beautiful rain this morning too Ariandalen - beautiful soaking rain. Now its just as humid as the tropics...but they are forecasting more rain so I am happy.

Gee, if I had to chose between birds and a F1 Bengal I'd be going for the Bengal. And as for that reporter. No brains.

At 23:54 Blogger AletaMay said...

Night Q -- Night Fiends.

I have been staying up too late this week. I blame the time change and the lovely LIGHT!

At 00:26 Blogger TommyB said...

Q- Sounds like you were able to work your airline magic on the credit card folks! Let's hear it for transferable skills!

As for the bird/cat thing- I just try to remember what Scott Adams said in the Dilbert Principle: Most of us have brains that pretty much stopped evolving once we figured out which end of the stick to point at the mammoth- but we live in a world created by the occasional mutant geniuses, so we end up being complete idiots several times a day- there's just too much going on now for us to keep track- something has to give.

Which is why I can safely operate a car for over 20 years without incident, but can't figure out how to open those stupid blister-packs without drawing blood.

At 00:29 Blogger TommyB said...

Although I have to say... "cats eat birds" ranks high on my list of "things I know without thinking about them."

At 01:05 Blogger Unknown said...

Am glad to know that the Bengal is with people who will take care of him and love him, poor sweet!

Cats and birds do not mix at ALL, though I do believe that we have convinced our Darklette and Picalili not to bring us sparrows (alive or dead) as bit gifties. Mice and the occasional rat, yes...

But never would I think of keeping caged birds in the same house as my cats. Eep!

At 01:12 Blogger Unknown said...

He asked "Does this mean I don't get the interview."

No, this means you will NEVER get the interview.

'Flowers', SO much nicer than the creepy 'followers'....

Still vehemently resisting twitter. As I get older my attention span gets worse...think I'd never have a coherent thought if I had all those messages to read throughout the day. Of course, no proof I have coherent thoughts now, but I'm pretty sure Twitter wouldn't help!

That Reporter, =no one else but me is real or matters. Good call on the Never...the degree of self-absorption needs swift, strong negative feedback to have any hope of changing, ever.

And we had the lovely moon as well. And yesterday I saw a giant Blue Heron. What a beautiful world we live in, despite our efforts to mess it up!

Have a lovely day, Fiends of the world...I'm glad to know you.

At 06:31 Blogger Dan Guy said...

I felt bad for Neil when he twittered that no, he would not be doing any signings while in the UK this trip. I *really* hope that person who twittered to ask hadn't read any of his previous tweets and had no idea about the death in the family.

At 06:40 Blogger Phiala said...

Hm. Morning. Right.

At 06:48 Blogger Jess said...

Well, now: I'm not at all sure about the wisdom of mixing birds and bengals, but evidently stranger things have happened.

Cat, chicks, PIT BULL?! Well, as long as they're happy, I suppose.

We like the moon! \o/ (I could link a very terrible-yet-coincidentally-related earworm, here, but I'll spare us all given that Sally's already subjected us to the Wiggles. Sally-- are you trying to kill us? Aargh.)

Good that Boss is well, and that you are running interference. Reporters are paid to be pushy jerks. Makes me glad that I never went into journalism.

Did drawing of blood occur? By Venus, I mean.

At 07:01 Blogger Unknown said...

I've got to stand up for my bird people -- *some* cats and *some* birds do get along.

Right after college my Egyptian Mau and I lived at home with the assorted 4 parakeets there. Gizmo wasn't that interested in the birds because they were always in cages when he was around and he wanted to hunt my mother's golden retrievers instead.

That said, I can't think of a worse combination than an F1 bengal and birds. Right up there with wanting to raise a cheetah with your goats.

At 07:37 Blogger ivenotime said...

Good Morning all! taking a quick break to say hello, and hoping everyone is well. no moon here last night, alas, cloudy and snowy, brutally cold again. Last night again i had to teach in a frigid classroom as the furnace keeps breaking down. sigh. not good for me, not good for students, most stayed but some left - they were turning blue, and i couldn't blame them. frustrating that they just keep patching up the furnace instead of replacing it. love your response to the reporter Lorraine, and I saw that too Dan, and hope that the asker wasn't aware of the details, or else it was the height of ignorance. off to work now, hope everyone has a great day!

At 08:11 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

Q, that's an awful song to have in your head. I keep humming that new McDonald's song that is sung by the fish. "Gimme that fillet-o-fish. Gimme that fish...."

Cats & Birds. *Blush!* We used to have both, but they got along really well. Then again we didn't have Bengals and the birds had their own room.

That journalist is an insensitive idiot. What is he thinking? Clearly he wasn't thinking. Why is it that some people think the world is all about "them?" I'm glad you set him straight.

At 08:21 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

In recognition of stupidity served, here is a special haiku for the journalist:

At 08:50 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I am glad to hear Boss is holding up okay. I wish I could help feeling really worried, but for some reason I just can't.

I didn't see the moon last night - sadly - but William did. He was very, very excited, being the little astronomer he is. He is fascinated by the solar system and loves to ask questions as well as spout knowledge like ... like a little knowledge-spouter. He's so cute!

At 09:14 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Missed the moon (worked late, came home oblivious) but had a lovely Cooper's Hawk in the backyard this morning.

Did you ever get your wallet back from the UK? That does sound rather inconvenient.

At 10:14 Blogger Fluffy said...

Madam, it isn't just you with the weird financials. Our mortgage payment went astray this month, causing much running about and writing of checks. They were good enough to refund the late fee, based on our record.

Then yesterday the spouse did the taxes, found that a windfall put us in a different bracket and we have to send some serious bucks to the IRS. Ow. Apparently, if you hit a certain income level you don't get to deduct all your mortgage interest and property taxes. On the bright side, he said he'd be making less this year than last year (and no stock options) so we don't have to worry about it happening again...

Whatever. He has a job, our roof doesn't leak and we're all healthy. I'm happy. Plus, we got almost 4" of rain yesterday. woot!

At 10:25 Blogger vampi said...

that journalist is an idiot.

having a google news feed set you for your company, when your company is extremely unpopular, lead to reading bogs and news articles with "< company> should die" and "< company> are all b@ast@rds"

people don't think on the internet, and it makes me sad. while i know these were not threats to me specifically, it does hurt, i've worked with this company for over 12 years now. it is sad, because the bile being produce has no basis in fact of the business, jst because you have used the service, dos not mean you understand the underpinning of the fees. some of these statements were on well respected news sites with "opinion" pieces, or just allowing reader comments. News does not need reader comments.
< /rant>
(specifically not mentioning company here, but easy enough to figure out from my facebook)

*hugs* to all i saw the moon. i wish i could have taken a picture, it was amazing. i saw it just above a mountain ridge and it was perfect.

Q, those free credit songs are horrible, but cute as well. i can think of much worse advertising, those are at least cute and required some thought.

wiggles are awful, awful, awful. why did i click. i couldn't turn it off fast enough.

At 10:40 Blogger Fluffy said...

I don't know the free credit report song - I always mute the commercials cause they're too loud. Phew. Dodged that bullet. And the Wiggles were after my offspring's time. And I never let her watch Barney.

Her guitar teacher sends me flair on FB for horrible songs that invade the brain. I retaliate with Raffi or similar. Being a good person, I won't repeat any of them.

At 10:41 Blogger gaypet said...

Honestly! How do some people even get themselves ready in the morning? Not only a cat. But a leopard cat? I wish we could ban people like that from getting more animals. Or at least make them take a class or something.

Now, in defense of the birds - if they are parrots they will form very strong pair-bonds, often for life, and if that bond is with a human then they are not good at re-homing either. All the more reason this person should not be allowed to have anything in their home but plants!

Yesterday morning on my way to work the moon was spectacular! There was some kind of effect (ice crystals or something) that made a light yellowish glow in the shape of a cross around the bright white full moon. It really was amazing. Then when the sun came up there was a double rainbow (one on each side). Again, amazing. Almost makes up for having to be at work before the sun is up. Almost...

BTW, the "Flowers" was me. :)

OK back to the grindstone. It's nice to at least be able to stop by.

I don't do a lot of this sort of reading, but for some reason I was curious that day and that fact stuck.

So today I get my receipt for the "Unicorn Donation" from Bengal Rescue- mailed from Plainfield, IL.

I'm sure this says something about the Nature And Order Of Things. Just not sure what, or if it's even important.

Paul / Paula.... I wondered if there'd been some surgical procedure that hadn't been mentioned in the blog. :-D

Comcast jingle: thank fods I don't watch TV so I've not heard it, but I bet it would sound great if Lorraine played it on bagpipes!

Hmmm.... double posts only from Quiche and Kitty? Methinks Danth has clones-in-beta and just is keeping mum about the whole thing.

The mail today brought "Let the Right One In"!! I can't wait to watch it, probably tomorrow night.

Pit bull and chicks? Love it, but I think he *was* actually tasting some of them.

Here's her monologue on how she started Twittering. P. Diddy and Martha Stewart were involved:

She is trying to get a million followers - has over 90,000 now.

Emily - Well, my husband's coming with me, so that's one. (And I think Chantrelle said her husband was coming along, too. And Dr. Wicked, maybe? Dan? Mr. Tommy Nice Guy?) But like Siri said, the best thing to do is email Aleta, and get the information from her.

So tonight, Fiendsies, I attempted to make egg fried rice, which I have never made. How hard can it be, you might ask yourselves. Well: I managed to screw it up so bad that we went for Chinese take-out instead. Wasn't one of those not-pretty-but-tastes-all-right jobs, either-- it was one of those things you just look at and know you shouldn't eat. Been a loooong time since I made a dinner that bad.

And that was my evening. How is everyone else? Hopefully you all had good food that was nothing like what I cooked. :D

Is that earworm karma coming back to get you, Ms. Hot Tamale Lemon?

I saw that Fluffy, With P Daddy this morning but was working on e-mail and didn't pay close attention.

Whats her Twitter? That one I saw had 18,0000 and had not posted...

I'll follow her anywhere!

Emily, the important thing is that Male or Female, gay or straight, whatever colour, married or single is that they are a really good people.

And you will be more looked after than you could possibly believe. Not to worry. You'll probably not have ANY fun, you will be so chaperoned, lol!!!!!!

Oj Jess, I've done that too many times!!!!!!!

This evening I am wringing my brain and searching through 2008 bills and such to give info to the tax preparer. Filing in two countries. What. A. Pain.

I also have been watching Dr. Who (First Series) this evening. The kids love it as much as I do. Tonight we watched "The Long Game" and "Father's Day". My 8yo son was sniffling right along with me on the last one. *sniff*

And I have work to do this evening, stuff I could have been working on all week, but instead I was cutting off Hydra heads. Er. And watching DVDs. And um... occasionally taking brain breaks while online. Heh heh. Oops.

That is what tv is for Q - those moments when you're brain is tuckered, but you're not ready to be asleep. :)

Million followers for Ellen? That doesn't seem likely, or? I noticed Wil Wheaton has over 222,000!

Uh oh. Thumping upstairs. There must be monsters what've escaped their beds. And now they're calling me. OH!!! I bought "Blueberry Girl" today. Read it to the monsters, with the 4-yo daughter snug in my lap. Several times. I sniffled through that one, too. A gorgeous, enchanting book. Mama. I go.

New Post is going up at 10:00pm this evening, or in 28 minutes, so no one has to do maths.

I am writing it now, watching Venus try and kill Mim. Such dears!

At 21:34 Blogger Siri said...

Is there a significance to 10PM?

At 21:38 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Yes. Er is done. And it forms a big part of my post.

Siri--I found it most disturbing when the cat was batting around a toy mouse (claws extended!) whilst surrounded by the chicks...and the mousie was rather similar to the chicks in size and shape.

'Cept, of course, that chickies don't have long mousie tails. Lucky them.

The later videos that show Sharky w/all those grown up birds, most of which turned out to be roosters, really cracked me up.
Sharky looks all-suffering and TRYING to be patient.

tiddly-poom.... awaiting next post....
