Magic's Adventure Concludes...(For The Moment)

Magic is back in his room!!!!!!!

Took an hour of Feathersticking in the kitchen lying on the floor with tuna across the room, but he came up the stairs, and Watched and then came to eat and I blocked the cat door. He ran around some, and tried to double back, but the way was blocked.

I didn't chase him, just talked softly and suggested direction. (His open bedroom doorway) Venus and Mim were of course, NOT a part of this plan, but shut in the Up part of the house. (Banging on the door like banshees) I don't think it was TOO traumatic, and he sure did have fun while it lasted.

I think he wants more contact, and I am going to see what I can do. More tunnels, more toys, a ramp to the top of the shelves, anything to make him happy. Lots more playtime. (I know, but sleep is overrated)

He is in his cave tho, and safe. With a HUGE plate of tuna right at the entrance. The silver lining in this is I did get to clean his room, so it is very nice for him.

Whew. And so it goes. Adventures.

The Adventures in riding this morning included not only Poetry, but a friend who was just as good AND my trainer Mel, who is also just as good. The three Graces. And me. I sure don't mess around when I put my mind to something, no point in riding with less than the best I say.

They were all so cool and supportive. I think I adore the entire situation.

My body is kind of screaming otherwise, but it will come around.

I don't much like to talk about my day at work, but since it seems to be the subject of much Twittering, I can tell you as of yet, I have not succeeded in finding the lost Bouzouki or luggage, but not for lack of trying. I have offered the Guest one of 4 violins, a 6 or 12 string guitar, a tenor mandolin and his choice of Bengals, but apparently they are not quite the same. We did have a lovely time pondering the mysteries of the Hardunger fiddle and just how anyone managed to string and tune it, tho.

At least Magic is back.

(Thank you Dr Wicked for the cunning Plan that resulted in Magic's return. Can you help with the Bouzouki?)

Love and Adventure,
Loraine

Good on ya for gettin him back to safety.

Now for a second there, I thought I was first ... oh well. I've had my day. Off to read the post now like the commoner I am ... hmph.

it's uncanny how i just happened to drop over from my reader page & there were no comments yet. the only luck i've had today at all! especially weird considering it doesn't show me if there is a new post up.

Marvelous marvelous news! Even all the way here in RI I found myself getting worried about Magic.

At 20:39 Blogger Phiala said...

Hooray for coming home after a Grand Adventure. I'm sure you are much relieved.

Except about the bouzouki.

At 20:39 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Oops, just read your response, Quiche, to my comment on the last post. I didn't realize Magic was okay. I figured he was afraid and reclusive. Will try and get things right next time. Maybe I need more sleep.

Ticky box, again.

Wonderful plan well executed! Patience seems to have been one of the keys.

At 20:46 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Magic decided you're magical and the basement was boring. Or something ;-)

Sounds like riding and Magic were the satisfying parts of the day, and the airline sucked the rest of it. Maybe you need to ride over them on a horse. Or beat them with a riding crop, but they might like that too much!

At 20:49 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Can that diagram be on the next t'shirt?
Way to go, getting Magic back in his room.
I seem to have caught the cold I was sending care packages around for...how did that happen? Or maybe its just a reaction to all the dust yesterday.
Now off to googlecate the odd violin.

At 20:50 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

No worries Emily, things move fast here.

I was SO tired when I left work, but so determined that this was going to work, I really didn't want to trap him, but he could not stay there, it would have been bad for all three of them.

He will be happy now. I will make it so.

Success feels good. Now me and Venus and Mim are sitting round the fire with marshmellows.

(OK, I made up the bit about the marshmellows)

At 20:52 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

That was Dr Wicked doing the drawing!

The weird violin is a Scandinavian creation, I know I am spelling it wrong but am too tired to look it up. It has 8 strings, four of which just sort of sing in sympathy. REALLY hard to tune....

At 20:53 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Having googlecated, I can see its a complicated thing - but Beautiful

At 20:55 Anonymous Anonymous said...

I love the drawing too. And the Acme product and it actually worked :)

Cats eating marshmallows - that would be hilarious :)

Did you get your laptop worked out Sal?

At 20:55 Blogger Dr Wicked said...

I believe it's called a hardanger fiddle and they used it a lot in the soundtrack for Lord of the Rings (specifically Rohan), very beautiful, haunting sound.

Very very glad Magic is back!

At 21:03 Blogger bengalgirl said...

Woo Hoo, so glad Magic is back in his room, I know what a worry it is to have one missing. Great plan, wonderful drawing, and lots of patience and tuna.

At 21:03 Blogger Dragonsally said...

laptop appears to be okay Jac.
I don't trust it now though

At 21:07 Blogger Jess said...

Quicheblog...now with diagrams!! I love it! :D Muchos lolrofls. Tee shirt: yes.

Good that the boy is back. Seems to me that the whole adventure will have been a good thing all round-- he and the girls got a bit more acquainted, which means less chance of fighting, and he got to explore, which is good for his kitty mental health. AND he learned that he misses you when you're not there, and let you know it. I say it is Good.

And hooray for riding! But boo to lost bouzoukis. The airline's asking for it. Smite them, Quiche! Smite them!

Look up Hardanger fiddle and learn both a word like Hardingfele AND about Troll tuning! That's my kind of Googlecation. You should Troll tune everything from now on and play devil music. Fol de rol. \o/

At 21:10 Blogger Ticia said...

I'm glad Magic is in his room again. There's a lot to be said for adventures though.

This is my driving commute week and as much as I love the rain, it is hard to drive long distances in pounding downpours.

Sally, I'm sending you a virtual virus busting box of badness. It kills all germs in a 50 yard radius while harming no living beings. (I am a pacifist)

The drawing was hysterical Dr.Wicked!

Enjoy your evening all!

Where is Lys? Lys, we need this on a Tee Shirt!! Help!! It's too perfect!!!!!

Maybe not glow in the dark tho...

I love the Hardunger sound, too true, haunting it is, but mine needs some work, it is REALLY hard to get in tune, needs new pegs I am thinking.

I used it a bit on the LaM cd on Personal Thing. Also played electric 5-string on that one, and regular. Showing off I was.

At 21:21 Blogger Adri said...

Yay for Magic being home! I'm about to crawl back to my bed and heating pad (infer what you will) and books, but came out briefly to catch the tail end of a live gig a couple of my friends were doing in Second Life. Ah, music. <3

Love the drawing. Love the Magic outcome. Still hoping for luggage and a bouzouki to appear or to witness a way cool smiting.

Hey, is Dr. Wicked still compiling the Fiendish Twitter list? I seem to recall skimming something that mentioned he was but never followed up.

You should post a photo of your Bouzouki. It's so pretty. Lord of the Rings indeed.

At 23:19 Blogger Na said...

LOL - the diagram rocks. And a good story, Mr. Magic's Antics.

Also love the hardanger sound. Tho' I never knew how it differed from other fiddles - neat!

Excuse me, I am low energy tonight. Long day. Went to yoga at the end of it. Going limp in 3, 2, 1... zzzz

At 23:26 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Glad you wrangled Magic! and yes, sketch tshirt.

I'm still flabbergasted at the loss of the bouzouki! I mean, what the flip?! Gate checked and all?!?

smite the smittees!!

At 01:03 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I kind of feel sorry for the little guy, he seemed to have such a great time of it all.

And I still say the bouzouki had itself checked back to Greece and is currently lounging on a beach, sipping retsina wine.

At 01:06 Blogger Lexocat said...

Nathalie may well be on to something. And if so, I can only say, "Clever, clever bouzouki!"

At 01:10 Blogger Dragonsally said...

At 01:57 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ah, yes....certes Nat-Law has it on the nose re "missing" Berzerki :)

And, hey, sorry for not answering the blog page earlier (get it? blog ... page... oh, nerks!!)

re t shirts---YES, yes, of course. We ARE going to have quite the EXTENSIVE line of Fab and Fiend approved tees available.

Easiest if digits are emailed directly to me (whatever was used to post) rather than me snatching it off the page, as that usually results in compression and loss of resolution.

Now....as for glow in the dark.. hmmmm... well, we don't know until we try, right!?! so, will see what is possible. tho St. Pat's, I think, *should* glow.

Anyway, back to feline slave day --as in, they are the felines and I am the slave. Now that I can ALMOST bread too beh doze.....there were litter pans to clean, frozen natural beef to saw up into day-use patties, and MUCH housecleaning. They are happy, and I am tired.

Night, all! (except Magic, you properly nocturnal thing, you!):)

At 02:15 Blogger Dragonsally said...

I think a t'shirt with the dastardly plan pic on it and glow in the dark pink hair, as drawn would be full of all sorts of awesomeness.

At 02:19 Anonymous Anonymous said...

So good to hear Magic is safe and sound. I've been lurking and away a few days dealing with some lousy life/work issues, but I've been grinning and giggling madly whilst catching up on the saga of Riding, Rantypants, Magic On Walkabout, the Missing Bouzouki and Spicy Brains.

Dr Wicked - Awesome diagram. LOL

Nathalie I think if I was a bouzouki I'd be on that beach.;)

You all really know how to cheer a girl up. Thanks:)

At 03:41 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Just because Magic came out of the cellar....

Doesn't mean the Bouzouki has come out of the closet.

:)

Or something like that.

DSally--???? oh my stars and garters. Now I have to go look again. So, little lady, just how much would you be willing to ante up for such an UNYOOOOOSUAL tee, anyhoo?
Cause that just sounds expensive, to be honest. But fun!!!

At 03:49 Blogger Dragonsally said...

I Love that sketch - it's so great that your hair was included properly, too! And good that Magic is back and not too traumatised, and no-one fought anyone.

I am glad I don't work for the airline. They deserve to be smitten, no question of that, but still. I feel Smiting by Quiche is somethingto be avoided...
lovd the list of instrucments offered to guest (does he know how to play the Bengals? 'Cos I heard that was a pretty specialised instrument ;-) )

You didn't offer him the Uillean Pipes?

Sally, have a virtual cold care packeage. Maybe your body is just reacting in the oly way it knows ho to the surprise of being rained on after so long.

We had sleet this morning. This should not be allowed. It's supposed to be spring. The crocuses have come up and everything. Can I put in an order for some Smiting of however is in charge of the weather?

At 04:30 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes. don't they realise this????

"Smiting by Quiche is something to be avoided..."

There is no bag that cannot be found if you ask the right people the right questions. Perhaps they need to be smitten to remind them of this.

It does remind me of an old airline joke.

When the prize was awarded by Pan-Am for the traveller with the most flyer miles, second was Mr Smith, who flew 202563 miles in a year.

First prize was awarded to his luggage.

At 04:32 Blogger spacedlaw said...

A colleague of mine regularly lost his luggage to airlines and his bags always turned out in the most incredible exotic places. He used to say that his luggage had more of a life than he ever did...

At 04:43 Anonymous Anonymous said...

It is incredible the places that luggage turns up.

I'm wondering that now, with all the damn security measures they make you go through, how can they have bags of stuff sitting somewhere they're not supposed to be??? What's with that?

Especially a bouzouki case.

It's bigger than a violin case, it could hold the mother-of-all-machine-guns.

Or an Acme bomb!

At 04:57 Blogger Marjorie said...

Jacuib - the only time (so far) that an airline lost my luggage they knew exactly where it was - they had offloaded passengers luggage to make room for freight and so it was all sitting at Heathrow. They then sent it on to Barcelona, via Paris, Madrid and Rome (in that order)It arrived in Barcelona at 10 p.m. on the Wednesday night, I flew home 8 a.m. Thursday...

Isuppose once it has been checked it has been x-rayed etc so is considered low risk to have just sitting around.

At 05:23 Anonymous Anonymous said...

You're right Marjorie. Also I thought they had this tracking thing now. Maybe that's just here.

Sometimes my luggage has ended up in the right place and I've been the one who's lost.

Always pays to pack a few things in carry-on luggage I suppose. I know this, but I never do :(

It is amazing what you can do without. Or what you can make do with, with the kindness of others.

At 06:11 Blogger dabbler said...

Awwwww. Quiche, is a bouzouki the same as a tenor mandolin? Long neck, four doubled strings? We have one in DH's closet. Long story about it, but you're welcome to it if we could get it from PA to MN....

Probably not the most practical idea, but wanted to offer. Hmmm. And of course, it isn't mine. But I am certain that DH would loan it.

At 06:15 Blogger dabbler said...

oops. Ticky box. And I can't figure out how to tell you to get hold of me, Q, if you do want it. Post here, I guess, but I won't get back to read till this evening today, as I am biting the still sick bullet and heading to dress rehearsal of OZ. Actually am far better...just not quite done. I'd say text or call, but i don't want those options public. And I can't get into the Fiends area again on the website. Sigh.

At 06:19 Blogger Phiala said...

Luggage. Right.

My intent was to fly from Lincoln, Nebraska to El Paso, Texas, closest airport to home.

Arrived at airport, flight delayed. Delay, delay, cancel due to something mechanical. Reschedule. Delay. Reschedule. They finally ship me out on an entirely sensible route, something like Lincoln to Denver to Houston to El Paso.

Finally arrive, no luggage. Big surprise.

"We have a record of it, so it's in the system and we will find it. If you haven't heard anything in 24 hours, call us."

24 hours later. "It's in the system. We know it's around somewhere."

Next morning, luggage arrives at my door, with a _British Airways_ luggage tag.

And a six-pack of beer inside - a Maryland microbrew.

Morning all! Tea is good.

Ok, o much of a start, but it's there, and ANYWAY, you will all flee, hee-hee, as soon as I post. I know your kind.

Hi Malena, the Bouzouki is not MINE, but a Guests. An dis still lost. Dabbler, many thanks for the offer but, we have a back up ukulele plan.

(Everyone should have a backup plan involving a ukulele)

It's a greek bouzouki and as I understand such things, different than a tenor mando.

FODS! The Bagpipes, forgot about those, will do so this morning. He could play them.

Magic would not come from his cave and eat this morning while I was there. And Venus pooped on my bed.

When Bengals get upset.....

At 08:12 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Having the mysterious Stephin guest play the pipes would be awesome. Try to record some of it!

At 08:23 Blogger Jess said...

*Flees!*

(Not really.)

Ukulele-bagpipe backup plans are good. Can he play both at once? I'd pay double to see that. :)

Pooping on the bed is not so good. Bad Mim!

I got me some peachy pączki. That's good and bad.

At 08:30 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Naughty Mim! I guess she did not like being ignored all the time you were chasing the Amazing Remarkable Monsieur Leopard...

At 08:33 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

HA! I see you, no fleeing!

What is peachy pazki Jess?

And oh, I am sure it was Venus tho I did not see it. WAY too subtle for Mim.

I am off for my ride. Pushed a little too hard yesterday, pulling back some today. ZOMBIE!!

Speaking of Zombie's I got the BEST Zobie drawing by Steve Bisstte from Nathilie yesterday!

Nothing screams Happy Birthday like a Zombie Drawing!

Lys, I don't THINK glow inthe dark hair works for the tees, sorry Sally, too many $$. White on a black tee, or the option of reversing that for those who like white tee's, but it should be in the shop, yes?

At 08:38 Blogger Dan Guy said...

That illustration is the best thing ever.

Quiche needs to write and illustrate a regular comic strip about Bengal fostering.

At 08:40 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Now there is an idea, Dan Guy.

At 08:40 Blogger Jess said...

A peachy paczki is a big-ass doughnut with peach filling, Quiche. Not at all good for my hips, but my inner three-year-old is loving it and doesn't care about hips.

Happy inner three-year-olds, or low-rider jeans? You give, you take, you gets what you eats paczki for.

Bad Venus, I meant. Venus was the pooper. Far be it from me to cast aspersions on Good Mim, who only poops on the poowheel.

*Flees!*

seconding, thirding? Dan Guy's motion for a Bengal comic strip!

Had to wiki the bouzouki to see what one looks like, hope it hasn't been sent anywhere too far away and finds its way back soon.

I'm going to have an early night now, work has taken over life a bit lately & I just need to charge up my energy levels (yawning). Good night!

Quiche--
re
"She also says she kind of likes "She Who Owns It All" and wants it on a Tee shirt, lol."

But of course! Email me if you DON'T want it up on the site where anyone can buy it :)

And a segue to the other art on shirt request...

Here is what I think we have open to us (please jump in and correct me at any time, Phiala!!)

*I* can EASILY do text, in a wide range of inks (metallics to glow-in-the-dark) for fairly low cost, put up on Bengal store at Spreadshirt, commission goes direct to Great Lakes Bengal Rescue.
Shirts are not made until ordered, are sent directly from Spreadshirt.

Art work (such as Diagram for Catching a Magic) can be done on shirts......somewhat higher cost....still not sure re glow in the dark potential. Still through Spreadshirt.

EXCEPT that--I can certainly have those shirts available there, and then send personal instructions on how to add glow-in-the-dark pink 3D hair to the shirt once purchased to any Fiend what requests it. You will have to buy some specific fabric paints, but the outlay is not overmuch and I have some experience with the puppies... :)

PHIALA has the ability to actually make shirts, she has the technology. I imagine the diagram art imprint wouldn't be too difficult, but cannot say what cost would be. And as she noted earlier, she doesn't have inherent GITD capability either.
I hesitate to throw this at you, Phi, because the advantage we have now is NO-ONE is out of pocket any set up expenses, and payment paperwork on the commission (i.e. donation) is entirely between GLBR and Spreadshirt.

So....I am but a willing servant to the Bengals and Fiends here. What do y'all think?

At 18:25 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Thanks Lys!

I vote for keeping it in the shop, as then it is no one's headache or out of pocket, this should be REALLY simple, as no doubt we will have more and more tee's, this way, some one else does all the work.

I mean, once Lys has done all the work, someone else does the work....

I did e-mail you Lys, but heck, if anyone else wants a "She who owns it all tee shirt", let's go for it. Why not??

Those shoes are awesome, i hope you can get ones that fit!

Man have I been gone too long. New tshirts, fiends and fiendish Bengals on adventures, poop....

All this and more, as the saying goes.

I'd totally buy a tshirt, whatever magiccal place they end up coming from. The more obscure, the better, I say, but I think Q's bengal-trap picture takes the cake.

At 20:13 Blogger Phiala said...

I'm winding silk, which may be in the top ten most boring ways to spend an evening.

On the t-shirt thing, I do HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY, as Lys said. *grin*

My technology is different than what Spreadshirt has. I have a cutting plotter and a heat press. That means I can do whatever we can draw on the computer (and text is EASY, same as for Lys), and it can be heat-set on shirts, bags, etc. I already have an online store.

Solid colors, glow-in-the-dark, and also patterns (even leopard print). The more different colors in a single design the more complicated it is.

I can also do decals.

Spreadshirt is certainly more efficient, but I can do some things they can't. I'd say let Lys do it at Spreadshirt unless we come up with something that they can't do.

At 20:29 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Mistress, my mind is thinking of Things....

You guys can work it out, if it is cool for Lys, I am good, if Mistress Skull wants to do something, I'm cool with that too.

The only thing I would offer is that I would not like anything we do with Fiendish saying to be for personal profit , for anyone deciding to do something.

If anyone wants to do something for a fundraiser of their choice and use a Fiendish Thing, you may.

It's just something we can do for the world.

Magic is still not exactly friendly. I mean more not exactly friendly than he usually is ....

I should do a new post, shouldn't I, about luggage and, well things.

Hello? I'm home!

I am here! I was off playing the worst video game I have maybe ever played, but I think I've given it up. Only question now is, send it back to the rental place tomorrow or play again for the sheer horrifying badness?

At 20:37 Blogger TommyB said...

Hi there Q. Not much going here- but love the drawing and the post. Watching an Expert in their element is always fun. Doesn't really matter what the Area Of Expertise is- it's just awe-inspiring to us in the rabble.

At 20:40 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Awww! Fiends!

Trying to think of a new post. Had so much in my head, but I can't seem to find it....

Wait, stray idea forming....

At 20:40 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Adri, play the game. Badness sometimes = goodness....

TommyB Mr Nice Guy, are you coming down for some ST Pats?

At 20:43 Blogger TommyB said...

I might at that. We have a friend coming in from out of town, and The More The Merrier! Besides, he's trying to get a job around here (reason for the trip) so anything that makes him want to be here MORE is good in my book!

Unless the job falls through- I don't want him to depressed. Tough line to walk, that one.

Thou art not alone, oh Queen Empress of Fiends, if not the World!
I've simply been wrangling recalcitrant five year old into bed.

At 20:43 Blogger Phiala said...

I am, as already mentioned, winding silk. Which is incredibly boring. Periodic email checks are my reward for winding a batch of skeins.

Let me know if you think of anything. My first thought was why give Spreadshirt the commission, when it could go to a Fiend instead (not profit, materials cost + a bit for equipment and consumables), and probably send a larger chunk to the Bengals, but ya know, I have enough to do right now. :) Unless of course someone comes up with a fun idea... I'm always up for that!

Okay, more silk.

At 20:46 Blogger TommyB said...

I just realized my first comment will seem odd- given that I was thinking of the post Re:Poetry when I wrote it. read a bunch at once and got my thoughts all crossed up.

At 20:46 Blogger Bulfinch's Aglaia said...

Quiche, I never properly thanked you for your incredibly kind message on Monday night. And thank you, everyone. Knowing that y'all care and are concerned is such a huge, wonderful help. It's been a tough week. One step up, three back, two up, oops I tipped over and fell down, dragged four back kicking and screaming, standing still like a stubborn donkey, one step back, starting again...

LOVE Dr. Wicked's cool drawing and, as always, your wonderful horse and bengal stories. :-)

I think I'll play it at least once more for the delightful splatterpunk goreiness of it. I'll probably quit after that because in the first ten minutes I played my eyes almost FELL OUT OF MY HEAD due to rolling them so hard because of costuming and gender roles. And the player character is a badass female barbarian warrior chick!

Also, the production values are really bad. I make game-like content for a living, so the crappiness makes me sort of twitch.

But you do get to cleave stuff with a HUGE SWORD and ride a lizard creature. And dismember enemy monsters. Also, lots of gore.

At 20:54 Blogger TommyB said...

Love the cat recovery story. Tuna is the magic elixir: we took in an abandoned cat a few years ago- we coaxed him into the house and as soon as the door shut he went nuts- jumping 6-7 feet in he air against the door. Until my wife got the tuna open- then he turned around instantly- started eating, and stayed for the rest of his too short life. Never tried to leave the house again for five years.

At 21:23 Blogger Jane said...

sitting on a Greek beeach sipping retsina would be my choice (can you tell I'm catching up on the comments?)

T-shirt with the great capture scenario? I'd buy one.

At 21:29 Blogger Jess said...

Huge swords and giant lizard mounts to ride: Yes. Gore, not so much, but I'm very much in favor of galloping around on a lizard with a sword. Also: big fireball spells. FWOOSH!

My level 52 Rangermonk Arch-Mage can do big fireball spells. I've also got a plugin installed which enables her to make it rain cheese. Or turn enemies into lettuce.

I'm serious.

I mean, wouldn't you turn your enemies into lettuce if you could? Mwahahahaha!

Sorry.

Hurrah for recovered luggage and bouzoukis! Though I take it this means the ukulele-bagpipe backup plan is now moot. Dang.

Hello, fiendish ones. Just realized I'm going to be single parenting for a bit, and while it's just for a few days, I suddenly feel more tired than I did a few moments ago. :P

Cheers Tommy! to you and your lady for giving a stray a happy home, even for a few years.

Today learned I have some work set up for the rest of the year. Yay! Still need to pick up a little more, but it's enough to get us through, so it's a great relief.

Oh, excuse me, I just yawned a huge yawn. Nuttin' to do with you all.

At 21:48 Blogger ariandalen said...

That's okay, Na. My spicy brains seem to be limited to my wrists right now. I've been thinking more and more about my next Night Garden piece, which means I probably should be writing it down as much as thinking about it.
Tonight, though, I am tired. So, I will probably go to bed right after the news.
