A New First Floor!

First off and most importantly, I am typing this on the floor! And it is every bit as great as I had imagined it to be! I still have a few adjustments to make, but it is what I wanted.

I know that you want pictures, and I will take some, but typing this, even from the floor, is all I can manage for you tonight, and the room is BEGGING for curtains to make it perfect. Venus and Mim love it and Venus is sitting on the futon beside me.

Mim seems to be, uh, under the carpet. I think they approve, tho they certainly had a LOT of comments.

I can't claim any credit for this wondrous transformation of my first floor. Merry Housekeeper and Spooky Daughter came over while I was still at work. (only just got home, this what what we call a LONG DAY) And Merry (as I knew she could) figured it all out. (they also cleaned the entire place, IS there anything better than a newly cleaned and re-arranged house???)

The Romance Room, is now less of a something to look at and more of a Real room. Very comfy. The Sun Room got way bigger, now with no couches and only a futon and 6 foot Lov Sac.

It seems a very long time since this mornings early morning airport. Mostly I won today, kind of touch and go with some airline tickets and a couple hotel rooms, but I am very, very good. And lucky.

And very very tired.

We will be sleeping on the floor tonight.

Love and Floors,
Lorraine

Yay for clean house and floorness! Also for good and lucky assisting. I have managed to stay up til a grown-up hour for the first time in ten days. Perhaps the plague does end.

And we've actually pulled off OZ, despite death flu, 22 kids and 80 costumes, several changes in personnel, and way too many special effects. 2nd night's performance, and almost all the effects worked.....

Good night!

Quiche, even the tone in your blog tonight sounds like it has achieved much of the impossible today. It sounds tired.

Hooray for Merry Housekeeper. She sounds like a Fairy Godmother. Must be something unique up there in the Northern Mid-West.

And I knew all along those mousies had to be pretend!!

At 22:30 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Just to clarify, the blog doesn't sound tired. It's quite chatty and interesting. You sound tired.

I should shut-up before I dig myself an even bigger hole!

I am tired, no fooling you there. Sore and somewhat bruised as well, but mostly tired. It never stopped today. Been catching up on e-mail since I posted.

Up early in the morning to tend dog and do some work things, but I am still too reveling in this to go to sleep...

Hurrah for Merry Housekeepers and thier Spooky Daughters!!!!!

The perfect icing on the clean-and-rearranged home cake has to be freshly laundered sheets. :) These are a few of my favourite things, but hard to fit into the song...

Hooray, hurrah for the folks who make our lives a little nicer!

As opposed to the stupid, stupid rat (bastard) creatures ;) that annoy the @#$! out of us. (Dan, have you seen Rose?) (And excuse me all, just had my fill of the annoying ones today. Yay for tomorrow being another day.)

I definitely have Lov Sac envy..they just look so comfy!

Of course Mim is under the rug, she's gotta find some place to store all those mousies. ;)

Chanterelle that is a cute bear, but only from behind the glass I think.

Non-spoilery-- loved it. Very faithful to the book in themes and visuals and dialog. And violence. Lots and lots of violence; they don't pull the punches at all.

At 00:56 Blogger Lexocat said...

Lys, you got Korean covered? V. interesting. When/where did you learn? The Mandarin speakers, did they learn as adults or children?

At 04:40 Blogger Marjorie said...

Wow - how lovelyt to come home to a clean and rearranged house. Loud and prolonged cheers for Merry Housekeeper and Spooky Daughter, and for typing on floors.

Also for conquering (most of) rat bastard airlines and hotels.

I don not have a Merry Housekeeper so am off to do some of my own rearranging. If you never hear from me again, you will know that my Attic & Ladder fear was not so irrational after all.

At 06:16 Blogger ivenotime said...

g'morning all, just a few secs before i run off to work - Adri, saw the watchmen last night. wow. loved it - amazingly faithful to the book, rorschach was great, as were all of them. sigh. was a fun evening, dinner first with one of my twins, then the movie. twin 2 comes home monday, husband comes home sunday, youngest is in london as i type. hope all fiends are doing well, lorraine, your new arrangement sounds quite cozy, glad you are enjoying it. have a great saturday all! tra la off to work i go.

At 11:50 Blogger Phiala said...

That's a great idea, Q, and somebody should make them.

Turns out "skeleton clock" is something entirely different but also cool: a clock where you can see the cogs and gears.

How's everyone else's day been going?

At 15:29 Blogger Hellie said...

Yay Spring must be here, seems like other people get the urge to shake things up, change thins around too! Enjoy the futon, they are the best things to sleep on, mine is now folded in the corner as its only a little single one but guests get to snuggle in it! Our little flat needs cleaning & rearranging too, if merry housekeeper has a spare day....! Was going to do it this morning but stayed in bed reading 'Crimson Petal & the White' instead, just had to finish it!

But we did go and buy new furniture (big bookshelf & cd stands to deal with overflow of media!) and I have fabric to make a new futon cover and new cushions!

Off to see Watchmen tomorrow (yay), will add my opinion then!

At 15:42 Blogger Hellie said...

ps. Quiche loved your post on Thursday, made me laugh so much!!

Time is very slow today.

At 16:00 Blogger Marjorie said...

Slow time not so good. Is it productive time?

At 16:41 Blogger Phiala said...

I'm working on the lesson plan and handouts for the weaving class I'm teaching in a couple weeks.

Challenge: teach complicated concepts without letting on that people think they're hard.

At 17:27 Blogger Marjorie said...

Hmm. are the people you'll be teaching people who already weave, or are they starting from scratch? (So won't know whether something is supposed to be hard or not)

At 17:46 Blogger Phiala said...

My students are all weavers, but I expect them to be mostly unfamiliar with the material I'm covering.

I want to teach them some really neat techniques that people think are hard, and if I do it right my students will learn it BEFORE they find out this stuff is supposed to be hard.

At 17:57 Blogger Marjorie said...

That's kind of what I was thinking, that it would be easier to teach it as being do-able if they don't already *know* it's hard!

At 18:03 Blogger Phiala said...

Exactly. And I need to teach it carefully, step by step, so it never seems hard. That's the part I'm working on.

At 18:46 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Morning all.
Late to the party today - feel like shite. Blergh. Bah humbug and all that.

Gayle, I want a clock that says Nevermore on the hour now.
Off to watch clock vid.

At 18:52 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Ow wow. That clock is beautiful and wondrous.

At 20:04 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Good morning to you in Australia, Sally. It's almost time for bed here (kind of. I mean, okay, nine isn't really "almost bedtime" on Sat. night).

You know, William has a "law" in this house - no one, himself included, is permitted to dance. This is totally lousy. He and Jack have rock music playing all the time and so why can't I dance?!

He has "School of Rock" on the TV right now and I must dance! (I tried. He admonished.)

At 20:05 Blogger EmilyLady said...

And I wonder why this is. He has never given an explantion for this law.

At 20:34 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Emily, I was watching that too for a bit, despite the fact we have the dvd. What's up with this no dancing????

Very slow tonight...Is everyone out having some fun? Who is around?

No new post tonight, I am sorry, I don't have it in me. Work got a bit much today, even tho it's Saturday, sometimes we don't see it coming, but would love some lovely chatter...

Any love out there?

At 20:37 Blogger Phiala said...

Still working on my class: 4-page outline, 6 pages of patterns.

Getting kind of tired... at least of working.

At 20:42 Blogger Jess said...

Why, certainly! Hello there.

We saw Watchmen today. It was pretty damn good. (And deeply unpleasant in bits, but I just shut my eyes for those.) Now I have to read the book and see how it actually goes. :)

And that was pretty much my day, because the film was long. Planted some new basil plants in pots, washed the car, enjoyed the warm weather. That's about it.

How's everyone else this fine evening?

Emily, I don't dance either, but I don't inflict my non-dancingness on others. I say to tell Will that watching other people dance builds character, and get down. :D

At 20:46 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Mistress, step away from the work, back away....

You know, it's funny, the reviews aren't very good about Watchmen, but everyone who love the comic is loving it, havn't heard bad from anyon eyet.

Goes to show you, sometimes THEY don't GET it...

At 20:50 Blogger Phiala said...

Q, I will back off shortly, mostly because I haven't figured out what happens next. I have half a day of class yet to plan, and I'm not sure what to do with it.

Or did you mean I should stop because it's almost 10pm on Saturday? Nah.

At 20:52 Blogger Ticia said...

I too saw The Watchmen today. I loved it. I closed my eyes during the graphic violence, but I read the GN, so I can't say I wasn't expecting it. :-)

Walked 3 miles with Olivia today. House to myself. Writing and reading are in order. ::snort:: I'm begining to write like I'm on twitter! I'm SO addicted and the iPhone just enables me!

At 20:53 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Not sure what I meant, just want to chat with Fiends....

are we having a party yet?

At 20:56 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I see your Twittering Ticia! I am still so new to it.

I've been reading Carrie Vaughn again, New Kitty and the Midnight hour, I really like her voice when it comes thru, sometimes hit, some miss, but when it works it is fine entertainment.

Also a truly fine book on a rare Scottish wild cat, which I will no doubt be talking about,, very like Bengals in some ways, especially EG Bengals.

At 20:57 Blogger Phiala said...

Party? Maybe. It's March, after dark, and I still have all the windows open. That's cause for celebration.

Jess, did you see the preview for the new Star Trek? Looking good!

I think I like twitter because it is so easy for me to re-post interesting things that other people find. It makes me feel less like a computer Luddite. And, it's instant. No fiddling around with passwords and previews. It's freeing for someone who never turns on an actual computer.

And, I'm a voracious learner. I am learning SO much from the big brains and fascinating people that post there... Anyway, like I said, addicted!

At 21:19 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Good evening, lovely people. *Lots* of love, Q, just not much to say. Have decided, quite firmly and way way belatedly, to quit all my bloody complaining. Am now retraining myself on how to talk. Haven't figured out what to say yet. ;-)

He ran and howled at the moon! Probably.

Aaagh, not ready to Spring Forward.

Ticia: They didn't run the Star Trek trailer! :( There was the Nicholas Cage movie which will be like every other Nicholas Cage movie; there was Terminator: Guns and Robots; there was the stupid Dan Brown sequel, and the one about the kids working at an amusement park who become BFFs and have the BEST SUMMER EVAR. And finally one about some guys getting drunk in Vegas. But no Star Trek. Boo.

I'm looking forward to Simon Pegg as Scotty! I like Simon Pegg.

You can listen in, even if you're not in SL, here. Frogg and Jay play a mix of folk and rock, mixes and covers. It's vocals, piano, and guitar and goes on for another half hour.

I could use a Fiend party myself. Need some cheering up; just one of those unaccountable moods that makes everything that usually I'm fine with seem like zomg a huge crushing deal.

Heh heh heh heh heh

DH got to see "Coraline" in 3D today while I took daughters to "Hotel for Dogs." He was very happy to have gotten to see it in 3D. :) Of course, this means that neither of us have seen "Watchmen" yet.

Have I mentioned that I hate Daylight Savings Time?

I hate Daylight Savings Time. DH has to be at work tonight at around 1 AM so he is there for the time change. That's the joy of keeping the computer network for a hospital running means. Granted, I hated DST before he started working for the hospital, and no, I don't know what time he will be home; neither does he.

Saw our first bluebonnets today! I don't really expect it to be a good year for bluebonnets as it has been one of the dryest winters here in over a century. It is so dry I have to fight off bees in order to fill the dog's water bowl, and every day there are more bees. I haven't gotten stung though, so it's all good.

At 21:54 Blogger ariandalen said...

DD1 was asking a lot of questions about our marriage at dinner tonight. It got a bit irritating. She finally asked why we got married.

Bluebonnets. Wow.

Snow tonight here I guess.

I seem to be developing some sort of upset stomach type thing. Think I'll need to call it a night.

At 22:00 Blogger Adri said...

ariandalen -- back when I had a house in what might has well ahve been stepford, San Antonio, we were always in trouble for our weeds or a brick out of place in our trim or whatnot, but there was a house the next street over that had just COVERED their front lawn in the thickest Bluebonnet patch you had ever seen. And that was fine. I'm /still/ resentful. :D

But they are pretty, that's for sure.

At 22:05 Blogger ariandalen said...

Adri, they had to have planned their lawn to be that way as bluebonnets (lupines) are biennials. The homeowners association probably looked at that lawn as landscaping, but it would have lasted only two months at the longest. Be thankful it wasn't Indian paintbrushes.

Bluebonnets - I had to go & look these up. I don't think we get them over here - we have lupins but they are mostly much taller, and I think predominantly pink. Reminds me that I haven't seen bluebells yet this year.

Gayle - good to ssee you here again, BA - I do hope you are able to make it in June. I'm starting to feel quite excited about it all, now :-).

I have not read "Watchmen", although my friend is pushing it and pushing it and pushing it. He says it's pretty much a crime to not have read it. The only GN's I've ever read are the Sandman books.

We do need talk about our gathering, don't we? Plans need to be made.

I fell asleep on my floor last night after my long day Aleta, how's that for cool? Hee-hee..

good mid morning all fiends! Phiala, what techniques are you covering? I did quite a bit of weaving around my 30's, and still very interested in it. I still have my 48 in. 8 shaft floor loom, and a 16 shaft 24 in. loom - if I ever get to the point where I don't need to teach, I would love to get back into fiber some. I saw the watchmen on friday, a rare night out, and loved it-tho the violence was a bit tough on the eyes (like you Jess, shut em tight). Very faithful to the graphic novel, and actually, I thought, improved on it in one specific part (heresy, i know) and there was one part which was kinda boring, but the rest, wow, wow, wow, brilliant. the beginning sequence is amazing. We saw the star trek trailer too, which looks great, i am excited about seeing that - also terminator 4, wolverine, and a couple others. Grace, could to see you back, lucky you for your break being on st. pat's week- my break is now over, and maybe maybe today i will get done with taxes. Our business has been spiraling- not up either- and i have picked up a few private students and another class to try to help us thru this rough patch, along with doing more of the office work for our business. busy is almost too benign a word- frantic 12 hour days of late. but i digress - hope you get to minnie for st. pats - you will need to have a beer for me, would love to be there as well.

Lorraine, it seems some sadness has descended for your boss, and possibly you as well - hugs and love, with all my sympathy for the loss.

Thanks Sue, yes, I see he posted. Very sad day indeed. Kudos to NW airlines tho, for not only changing his ticket for free, but sending him straight to first class.

Hooray for comfy floors. I'm around, just winding silk, a task not on the list of most fun ways to spend a morning. But it's pretty silk, and if I'm winding that means that people are buying it, so it isn't so bad.

Sue, I'm teaching a two-day tablet weaving workshop. I have a floor loom, but am by no means an expert in that.

Tablet weaving is my favorite: simple equipment, but can produce anywhere from simple to wickedly complicated results.

Yes-- saw that post this morning. Many sympathies for the loss. If I'd realised last night I'd have hung around longer to give you the company! I can see why it must have been a hard day for you yesterday.

Emily-- hee! :) Will needs to see these guys.

Should the occasion call, Jess, I now have some spectacular ideas on how to drive William out of his mind, thanks to your link.

(Mom and Ben and I dance when Will's not home. Just because, you know, we can. Also sometimes when his back is turned.)

Lorraine, I do hope to talk about the Gathering - some time ago I e-mailed you our phone number, because my mother wants to know things about the Gathering. Did you get it?

Thanks Jess, couldn't say anything last night as he hadn't...I'm off to the airport in a couple hours.

Emily, I did, trouble is, I don't exactly KNOW anything about the gathering yet...

I need someone to help with this.

We need someone to get a grasp of how many we are...

I'll do a blog post later about everything I think we need and we can start talking. Must go and wrassle more plane changes.

I am up for helping out with gathering stuff. I'll email you Q.

I am 90% sure that I'll be blowing off the family thing and sticking around to be with fiends. I am torn as I do really like this group of family folk but the first ever gathering of fiends seems too important to miss.

I know the floor was not your first choice for sleep but if you slept well then I am glad. Tough day all around I am sure.

Just wanted to make sure, Lorraine - since my mother has brought it up a couple of times since I sent it. She's thinking that because June is drawing closer, she will need to have some information sooner rather than later. We will have to start planning, won't we?

Good afternoon, beautiful fiends (thanks to daylight torture time)! I am doing very little right now, and it feels so weird that I am going to put on something fun to listen to and go clean out my closet.

Quiche, all love and sympathy to you -- I'm sure that when sadness is hitting your nice boss, it affects you as well, personally and professionally. (And now I know why I was fretting about him all day yesterday -- it just seemed too weird for there to be no twitterage going on for so very long, even with the signing, and I was really starting to worry.) Anyway, I hope you are able to get some sort of rest and peace today. *hugs*

"Daylight Torture Time" - I like that, Grace. Very apt description, especially for "Spring forward." I don't think it would mess us up quite so much if they went back to the original times of changeover: first weekend in April to first weekend in October. That is, since we can't seem to get rid of it all together.

Sudden deaths of family and friends is so much harder than when you are expecting death. I am truly sorry this is happening. ::sigh::

Well here's a start, Quiche: thanks to the magical wonder which is The Book of Face, there is an event page which can give you some idea so far of who's coming:

just here

Mr. Jess and M'self are about 98 percent sure we will be there (as long as his company doesn't suddenly lay off the entire IT department, or something). We wanted to come a day early, but it doesn't look like there's room at the inn till Friday. How fast do those rooms tend to fill up?

Also, I want to try to go birding while I'm there. Who's up for birding?

At 12:44 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Th Birdchick has offered to do some Birding with interested Fiends...

New Post is up!
