Rock Happened...

Home from the gig and doing my "Run around the house like a crazed women thing" , as one does after rock.

And there was Rock tonight. Second set was everything one could hope for. First set is generally the warm up. It last an hour and a half, and I tend to have Zombie Brain for it, no idea what song we play next or what I am doing on stage. We don't make set lists, it all depends on who is there and what the mood calls for.

Sometimes I wish I was just a bit bigger in Rock terms, so someone else could play first set. Second tho, that's where all the good stuff is. Hour long, and most often full on. El and her friends came down for that one tonight, which made it even cooler. Ended with Running to Stand Still, my first favorite U2 song ever, from the best U2 album ever (for the record) and my lead got cheered. Always makes me feel really happy. I play the song one handed until the end then sort of pour my soul thru the violin. gffffffv. (Hmm, seems Mim had a comment there...)

If one ever does need bringing back down to earth, then coming home to five Bengals who have not had anything but dry food all day does it. Trust me when I tell you , you HEAR about it.

Magic not only Mewed me, but came running to the door and Sniffed me, which is new for him. When I brought his food, I put out my hand, and he sniffed again, then Licked it! Hello? That is a leap for him. Of course, when he realized he had done it, he backed off and hissed, but this is huge.

Way cooler than Rock. Or as cool. Hard call.

Looking forward to tomorrow, Some Assistanting, a Ride with Tess, (Or Annamontana or Catera, hard to say) and then...

Another chance to Rock.

Feeling pretty happy just now.

Love and Rock,
Lorraine

YAY for Magic and Rock!

I'm still awake because I'm watching Star Trek, the original series. It's /delightful/. (Thanks to Tor.com for inspiring me to rewatch; they're doing a re-watch and discussion thereof)

Star Trek original is so fun. How cool, Adri!

I am up because I am doing homework *and* finding ways to avoid it -- tough to do both at the same time! Oh, and my laptop keeps crashing, which is not fun. So I'm on my big huge old old OLD desktop. :-)

At 01:36 Blogger Adri said...

cbs.com has TOS available in the original uncut versions all for free.

You know, if you're looking for distractions. ;)

i think magic is reading the blog and is trying to sniff your spicy brainz.

The bit about Magic licking you hand and backing off made me laugh. Such a cutie.
Great rocking, I am glad you had a great time.
Am about to go to the market with my parents. Byeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Rock and Roll and Magic. What a perfect evening.

I had a perfect evening myself, which included none of the usual suspects. I'm drunk. Happens about 3 times a year. It makes it VERY hard to type coherently.

I must go to bed, but I hope everyone sleeps deep and well.

I am looking forward to seeing you perform in person Lorraine!

At 03:09 Blogger Marjorie said...

Yay for rock and Magic! I clearly haven't ben paying attention, I hadn't realised you had a gig last night. And tonight too? I hope that rocks as well.

I can just see Magic backing off after realising he has taken a new step, but how wonderful he trusted you enough to come forward in the first place - and coming out to shout at you for late feeding too ;-)

(Also, thank you for your e-mail - you rock in so many ways:-))

Just off to send the weekend with my parents (also, possibly, a sister) in deepest Devon, near the sea.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone.

Ticia - how long did that comment take you? Becasue it seemed pretty coherant to me!

At 06:43 Blogger Jess said...

Hurrah for Rock and Hand Licks! (You know they like you when they start wondering how you taste.) Glad the gig went so well. Actual jigging on your part, or El's? :)

Need to feel some rock of my own. I don't wanna teach today. Bleh.

At 08:09 Blogger AsISeeIt said...

Too early to form coherent thought, but that is wonderful. Congrats on kitty progress. Now where is my coffee?

At 08:18 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Sounds turly wonderful, all of it. Yay for Magic mewing and licking. Yay for rock.

At 08:18 Blogger EmilyLady said...

What the heck does "turly" mean?

Sounds TRULY wonderful ...

At 08:48 Blogger Phiala said...

Licked??? Whoo-hoo!

And we all knew there's be rock. :)

Emily, don't fret about typos here - nobody else does, and we're all good at reading typoese. Besides, if you make a good one, it may become part of the Lexicon.

Cats are so funny. Couldn't help himself - had to greet you with a lick but OMG! how could I have done that! You can just see their little brains whirring.

At 10:18 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I'm, with Asiseeit on the coffee, or tea as it were, it does feel early. And I seem to have a very awake Boss. Will drink tea until the world settles in....

Magic was suspicious of me again this morning, like "Who are YOU and what are YOU doing in here???"

At 11:19 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Yes Kitty! We need Bengal vids!!!!! Can't wait! Figured out the mystery, Boss was on tweet deck on my computer, and didn't notice it was mine, all good.

Right, tea drunk, and going into work..

At 11:57 Blogger El said...

You're right, Q, second set did have a big crowd-- it's the side effect of sitting up front, you forget there are OTHER people around also watching the show.

I'm very much of the "out of sight, out of mind" school of thought, yes.

Magic was happy to see you! Even if he's snotty in the morning. :)

Jess- the jigging was done by some nice lady in the back of the pub. I do not know who she is, but I thank her.

Marjorie- a weekend at the sea sounds pretty perfect. Hope you have a good time!

Okay. Pancakes time. Well. Maybe a shower first, don't want to be too stinky.

At 11:59 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Sounds like a magical night, between rock happening and Magic taking another step in taming you :-)

I'm spending the day resting per doctor's orders - apparently I've had a sinus infection since my cold a month ago! Said cold which I managed to pass on to my sweetie. I was just hoping I hadn't caught anything from the Husbeast, who's furiously writing this weekend - thesis is due on Monday, and he's been sicker than a dog with bronchitis all week, poor guy.

At 12:01 Blogger DataGoddess said...

El, was the jigging lady older? There was a wonderfully colorful lady jigging at the end of Paul & Q's first set in the bar on St. Paddy's day.

(and ticky box because I forgot)

At 12:08 Blogger AletaMay said...

Yay for the rock. You know that your version of Running to Stand Still always touches my soul. It is magical. Speaking of... yay for Magic licks!

It is a beautiful spring day but I find myself back in bed with the iPhone and the warm cozy sleepy feeling. Wish I could stop time for just a little while. Keep Saturday morning for just a couple more hours. :sigh:

At 12:25 Anonymous Kate T said...

Huzzah and Hurrah for last night's multiple successes! Kitty love is a wonderful thing, and Magic (big and small 'm') works both ways.

Hope tonight rocks as well. Had a killer yoga class early this AM (15 minutes in shoulder stand variations - sheesh, I don't love being upside down) so I may indulge in a post yoga coma.

Happy Saturday to all!

Friend of mine in NZ met Peter Davidson at a con last week...he was wearing a cardigan! You expect old Doctor Whos to be cool, yes? Mind you, to me he will forever be Tristan from All Creatures Great and Small, and from that view a cardy doesn't seem so odd.

At 18:45 Anonymous Kate T said...

Roll well... We will lift a glass to your evening. If we all drink at the same time, does that mean we aren't drinking alone?

Darling husband Sam just reassembled 9 unicycles for our oldest darling daughter's circus ensemble (speaking of rolling). Some people have skills that I just do not have.

So we will roll here with you. Hope tonight also has magic.

At 18:54 Blogger Na said...

turly = terrifically surly? tiny bit curly? truly furly? Not much rhymes with -urly, eh. Oh wait - whirly. Swirly.

Rock, Lorraine and Paul! Rock on!

We got our tax returns wrapped up today. We owed the IRS $8. It cost me $13 to mail it. :P Owed Canada a whoooole lot more, but 'sokay, we'd put enough by. Hurrah! Done.

And ran the landlord to ground, have a deal, supposed to get our deposit back Monday, and we may possibly have a new place to live by next weekend.

Feeling dizzy. Turly.

Can't rock out with Paul and Lorraine, so will have to put something on the stereo. I'm thinking... the Clash.

At 19:09 Blogger vampi said...

"running to stand still" is on my list of absolutely perfect songs.

leonard cohen's "famous blue raincoat"

Peter gabriel's "in your eyes"

devo "beautiful world"

Cure "plainsong" and "gone"

Velvet underground "who loves the sun"

depeche mode "somebody"

tori amos "happy phantom"

anyone else have a list of perfect songs? if i get stranded on deserted island, i want a mix tape with these songs and a tape player (ok cd and cd player for you young'uns)

At 19:13 Blogger Adri said...

I should really start downloading the new Who, lest I lose my fan cred.

I meant to catch up on some writing today, but instead have been obsessively reading the archives of Questionable Content, a hilarious webcomic.

At 19:15 Blogger Siri said...

Na - congrats on the landlord hunt - I can't imagine the stress. Good luck on the move, too... May you have excellent water pressure, and closets galore.

At 19:28 Blogger vampi said...

don't forget kitchen cabinets and counter space for all the kitcheny gadgets you want.

At 19:35 Blogger Dan Guy said...

Yay for second set rockage!

At 20:02 Blogger Jess said...

Hint: YouTube is your friend. \o/

Hmm. Songs. Genrally depends what mood I'm in, but for list purposes I'll go up to eleven:

Pretzel Logic - Steely Dan
Layla - Derek & the Dominoes
Do the Dark - Blondie
Keep Talking - Pink Floyd
Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones
Tomorrow Never Knows - The Beatles
Fly Me to the Moon - Vince Guaraldi Trio
Lady Stardust - David Bowie
Listening Wind - Talking Heads
God's Comic - Elvis Costello

I could probably get by for a few weeks of desert-island-stranding on those.

At 21:12 Blogger Siri said...

Actually, Jess, YouTube is not my friend.....I get very very lost there!

At 21:14 Blogger Adri said...

We might not be able to listen to Paul & Lorraine live tonight (though I can't WAIT for that chance again, hint hint, since I was traveling for both of the streaming music parties so far), but my friend and great musician Frogg Marlowe is playing live right now. You can listen to his mix of rock and folk sounds by clicking here.

If you're really feeling adventurous, you can join the crowd in Second Life. :D

At 22:21 Blogger Na said...

Loving the song lists, though particularly, vampi yes, Happy Phantom!!! One of my favorite songs evar. And the Who has something new?!?! I am so out of it.

Right now I can get by just listening to Bear McCreary's BSG sound tracks, over and over and over.

Siri thanks. It's been some relief, though the mess ain't over yet, so. So. I dunno. Not really relaxed about the sitch yet. Plus there's the moving. Bah. I like Lexa's idea of putting it all in a dumpster and starting over.

Re: original Star Trek, I either forgot or didn't ever know, but recently (re-)learned, the first season was redone early on, to add better special effects. Both versions were broadcast, and one can watch or acquire either. Mmmm. And watching this made me realize there's many episodes I've mostly forgotten. :D

At 22:29 Blogger Fluffy said...

'Star Trek original is so fun. How cool, Adri!' I have just one thing to say - "He's dead, Jim."

Glad rock and licking happened. << You know, I typed that a few hours ago and didn't get to post it and now I'm thinking it looks suspect to say the least.

We just saw Bob Newhart in Fort Worth. It was a lot of fun.

Hmmm. Favorite songs:
(pulls up iTunes...)
'Babylon' - David Gray
'1979' - Smashing Pumpkins
'Jesus of Suburbia' - Green Day
'Yes" - Coldplay
'One Thing' - Finger Eleven
And lots of other embarrassingly pop stuff back to the 70's.

At 22:31 Blogger Adri said...

Watching the Trek eps on cbs.com is the first time I've seen them at their original 50 minute length instead of cut to 42 minutes for current-tv time slots in syndication. It's /awesome/

Aw jess - that was brilliant! Now I can't stop singing the song of course - typical Monty Python, such earworms

Home. Strange night. First set great, second ok, then everyone left when we went on break. No third.

Weird.

More tomorrow, I am beyond tired.

At 00:57 Blogger Lexocat said...

Reading about Magic makes me smile, even when he displays how *conflicted* he is about this whole trust thing.

Glad for the rock happening last night but sorry for the weirdness tonight.

Must work on perfect song list, but for me so much of what makes a song "perfect" is the context of how I came to hear/know/love it. It's rarely a stand-alone thing (and one of the reasons that I'd probably start my list with The Plimsouls' Million Miles Away; second on the list would have to be the Any Trouble cover of Dimming of the Day).

At 00:59 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Just got home from Tahoe. Ben took ski lessons and loved it, he was so cute! Have to get to bed so i can wake up before him to deal with the easter bunny thing.

vampi - you and i have the IDENTICAL tasted in music. crazy.

That's all for me tonight, hopefully i'll have more to say tomorrow after eggs, chocolate and my annual Waffles for Jesus.

Happy Easter, Fiends. I have a Green & Blacks dark choc. egg, how'd the rest of you do?

Na, good to hear you have finally cornered landlord - hope the new place works out ;-)

Jess, I saw Dr Who too last night - Easter Special - with a big red bus and hardly any TARDIS. But now I think we have to wait until Ovtober for another one, and only that and the Christmas one before Mr Tennant leaves us :-(

Sorry for last night's wierdnes, Q - although one great set is better than some people get, I guess.

Beautiful sunshine here - we went for a 6 mile walk yesterday - lots of steep up & down, so I am feling a little achey around the knees this morning, but in a good way. Tybalt has already been out in the garden to have a Hard Staring competition with the cat next door, who considers my parents' garden his own.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, everyone.

At 06:56 Anonymous Kate T said...

Good morning all - Happy Easter - there is much chocolate lurking in the living room, waiting for the daughters to rise.

Well a good night of Rocking and a half a night of strange rolling isn't a bad average, Your Fabulousness. Wish, though, it had been satisfying for you.

I'll have to work on that desert island song list - this morning I was reminded of a song by the Buzzcocks (from my misspent college youth) - Ever Fallen In Love With Someone (you shouldn't have fallen in love with). That would end up on the list, except of course I had to be reminded of it. Musical amnesia.

Off to rattle pots and pans and put on the teapot.

At 10:02 Blogger Siri said...

No chocolate here, sigh, but happy Easter to those who want one, and Happy Sunday to those who want one and Happy Last Day of the Weekend to those who want one.
