All Work And No Play....

I've been riding out every day this week on my steed here, and despite it being the Merry Month of May, nothing much has happened. Well, I am a bit fitter, and a bit better rider, but I was sort of hoping for more. Might be the leg wraps. Not sure the horses in the songs wore bright blue leg wraps, nor were they ridden by girls with lime green shirts and purple helmuts. If only we could DRESS right....

Jet came out today to help Hans with the tricky bits on my new screamed porch. (No, that's it's name now. Screamed Porch.) She is apparently some sort of Cat Whisperer, as I sure never have seen Mim do THIS before with anyone, including me. The Royals loved her too.

It was a long day, and as you can see, they got a lot done. The frames are all painted, and ready for their screaming. For both the porches. The deck still needs some staining but the stain is apparently Very Special also and has to be ordered before that can be done.

The door frames are both in, with the very special Bengal proof locks (We hope.) The Screams are going outside the railings, so the Bengals can have a little walkway all the way around. I still, you may notice, haven't found my couch, or indeed ANY patio furniture, but all in good time.

It's all very exciting, to see how much further along the project got today. I am hoping that tomorrow it might be nearly done, at least one of them, so we can see how the Bengals like their new rooms. There's not much more to do, and Hans certainly works diligently, keeping his mind of the work at hand. NOTHING distracts that man!

Maybe tomorrow I will show you how far we got on the Gardens...

Love and All Work and No Play,
Lorraine

I think I have Scream Porch envy, too.

Of course I have a hot tub. One can't have a Spooky House without one...I NEED a hot tub. Stress and all you know...

Aleta, no. No fun at ALL.

Jet says if I get a grill she will bring me as many BLL's as will FIT in my hot tub.

Cool.

Such a shame you did not have any fun, though, because if anyone deserves some, it's you.

Mim is a cuddly creature (far more than Venus). Or at least she was when she was a wee kitty, I hope this hasn't changed.

At 04:46 Blogger Marjorie said...

more tub-and-porch envy here! Hmm ..what with the bengal's liking water, are you going to be able to keep them out of the hot tub? or it it outside of the screened part?

At 05:58 Blogger Hellie said...

Oh me too! Some of the hostels we stayed in in NZ had hot tubs - the greatest feeling of relief is sinking into one after spending a day climbing up a glacier! I imagine it's similar after a long horse ride!

I had an odd day yesterday, spent most of it being trained in procurement specifications, by such a sweet man that bore such a resemblance to GK Chesterton (on a smaller scale), then I met John Barrowman (from Torchwood) in a lift!

At 06:00 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Hellie SQUEEEE John Barrowman *fans self* did you come over all fangirl?

I think I would have just gawped.

At 06:22 Blogger Phiala said...

oh, poor poor Q! Hottubbing with BLL. It is sooo rough to be you.

One more day of work, when I will finish this grant proposal AND something else important. Then three days of no work, in which I will do (incredibly long list of things that might be suitable for three weeks, if I tried really hard).

At 06:31 Blogger Marjorie said...

John Barrowman?! Did you say hello? I think I would have been dithering trying to decide whether it was really him or not (I am very bad at recognising people..)

And being trained by a GKC-alike ould be a little surreal, too...

At 06:45 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Your steed has rather scary eyes!

At 06:53 Blogger Hellie said...

I did think about saying 'you're great in torchwood' or something of that ilk but decided against it. He was shopping with his parents so I didn't really want to bother him, but he did speak to me to ask if I knew where the ladies shoes dept was!

At 06:56 Blogger Hellie said...

I must add, I did stand there thinking 'wow he is even more good looking off the telly!'

At 07:39 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Would like to visit Screaming Porch someday. Looks far more interesting than secrets-closet. Not sure about hot tub, though. Am not particularly floatable.

At 08:26 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Just promise you'll take a break every once in a while, Lorraine. That's a lot of hard work going on there.

One more day of stats and reports, then a three-day weekend! At long, long last. Like Phiala, I want to pack too much into it than three days will allow.

At 08:35 Blogger Jess said...

Lolrofls! I love this post. You so funny. :D I needed some funny this morning.

(And it's only proper for a Spooky House to have Screamed Porches.)

Want to see the garden! What is Beez planting out there?

At 08:44 Blogger Phiala said...

Latest gov't regulation. I will not be able to check my work email from any non-gov't computer. And it's forbidden to use non-gov't email for gov't business.

So if I'm out of town and my technician has a question????

In other news, I will be purchasing Steve Earle tix this morning. Last time he was in town I didn't hear until it was sold out, so I signed up for the email list, and this time I KNOW.

At 08:46 Blogger spacedlaw said...

He could phone you instead... (@phiala)

At 09:07 Blogger Phiala said...

Nathalie, that depends entirely on what the question is. He certainly does call if necessary, but there are many time-critical items that require documents. "I will be on vacation that week, but can review the grant proposal anyway. Just email it to me. Oh wait... you can't. So sorry."

It is a stupid rule, and will make it harder to do the bits of my job that I actually care about.

At 09:15 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Morning!

Hi Aspphdeline! Yes, she DOES have scary eyes. It is a small consolation to me...Gives me hope.

The Bengals won't go in the hot tub, that part won't be screamed, and they will have their own fountains. Magic is getting one today too. Same kind.

Sadly, no three day weekend, but I expect parts of it will be a lot of fun. Gayle is coming to Garden today, don't THINK Beez is too. I'm not worried tho, there is PLENTY of gardening to go around.

And rock tonight. Just tonight tho, not Saturday. No riding out this morning, too hard if I have a show, I'd never make it.

At 09:26 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Got a favor to ask. Could some fiend who has a free moment in about 6 hours (before 4:00 Central) remind me that I am supposed to walk home today? Do not accept my excuses. It's supposed to be nice out. I have my sun hat. I have comfortable shoes. No excuses. I've lived within walking distance of work for two months now and have yet to walk home from work. I don't have an accountability buddy here, and could really use a push.

Good rocking tonight! Five weeks and I can finally hear you rock!

At 09:28 Blogger Marjorie said...

that's a relief - I'm not sure that Bengals in the hot tub would be a good idea, at least for any humans who might be there at the same time!

Hope the gig, and gardening are both fun.

At 09:30 Blogger Dan Guy said...

I hope that the bengals are the only ones doing the screaming, when they discover that the screens and locks are proof against them.

At 09:34 Blogger Phiala said...

OSS, I walk every day, rain or shine. I gotta get to work, and once I'm there I gotta get home again.

I will try to remind you, but no guarantee I will remember myself.

At 09:49 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

These screams had BETTER be proof against them. They are only rated safe for dogs and cats tho...

OSS way to GO! You won't forget. And tell us, yes?

I really gots to go to work. Need to be back here when Gayle comes and I sort of forget when that IS exactly.

Someone remind me I have to rock tonight. No Sucking!!!!!!!!!!! Going to be a really great show. I am ready, and we only play the one night.

At 09:52 Blogger Ani said...

Quiche, are you *sure* it's a Spooky House and not a Spooky Water Park, Bengal Preserve and Day Spa? Looks like you & Jet were having Too Much Fun, with is only to be greatly recommended!

Happy weekend, everyone!

At 09:52 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Oh, I won't forget. But I will come up with all kinds of reasons not to do it today. Just as I have done for the past two months. I keep going backwards on this "Fit by Forty" journey.

Ani, TOLD you I would have waterfalls....

OSS, bring yr Ipod. It's like this great time that is just you and the music, and nothing can get you for that time. It's just you. Work goes away, kind of melts, until you feel like you again.

Work WILL melt if I don't get my butt off the floor.

At 10:08 Blogger vampi said...

Friendly harrassment services. Hmmm. What other services do we, Fiends that we are, provide for each other? Sympathy (and virtual tea/gin/chocolate/bacon, etc.,) encouragement, jokes, hilarious typos, inspiration (SEE! WANT!) and, er, other stuff. Amazing stories. Haiku.

I do not want le tub hot! It is redundant here. We have le Texas hot. I has the whirlpooly jets in my bathtub, which is nice because it's in the AIR CONDITIONING!

Since my muscles are still royally pissed-off at me for the workout session Wednesday, I may climb into said tub and try some hydrotherapy. I haz another session with Maria (Mistress Of Pain But Still A Nice Person) this afternoon! Aaargh! It's a good thing, I keep telling myself! The ability to walk is overrated, I tell myself! Help me, Fiends!

At 11:30 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Tub sounds like an excellent idea. And a decontractant. Thinking of an alcoholic one here, if you can.

At 11:53 Blogger Fluffy said...

Oooh. That might make today's session more fun...

The screen is, once again, showing about half the post. No matter, I can tell this sounds like an interesting way to end the week.

At 13:18 Blogger Jess said...

Emily, I wonder if it's a browser conflict. Something similar happened to me a while ago, usually when the thread hit about 200 comments. Haven't seen that happen again since Dan worked whatever magic voodoo conjurings he did, though.what browser's on the computer there, and what version? (Not that I'll know what to do then, but someone else might.)

At 13:39 Blogger spacedlaw said...

OSS! NO SLACKING! IT'S WALKIES FOR YOU. NOW.

(another fiendly announcement)

At 13:40 Blogger Arwenn said...

Emily,

I had that problem on my home computer until I switched the screen resolution. It's under settings - control panel - display - and then the settings tab. Perhaps playing around with that will fix the problem. (I'm assuming you're at a public computer which may have been monkeyed with by the public)

At 14:17 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Alas, two more hours of work. Then I hear and obey.

At 14:20 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I might be in bed by then...

At 14:25 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Thanks - it is a public computer, and probably has indeed been monkeyed with. It doesn't really bother me particularly, since at home the whole post always shows - except that at home the computer is slow enough that the website doesn't always work. Ah, library. Has it ever steered me wrong?

I am now trying to think of a time. I'll get back to you about that if I think of something.

At 14:33 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Oh, I'm glad I'm not the only fiend who is usually in bed by 10:00. I was feeling like such an early bird. Then again, maybe I have the time difference wrong. Are you 6 hours ahead of U.S. Central, or more?

At 14:36 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Seven hours away from Lorraine. It is now 21:36.

At 14:41 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Ah, good to know. The time zone map in my calendar is hard to read.

I am screaming for a screamed in porch with a hot tub.

Btw, I sent off my thesis today! Yeah me!

P.S. I'm so tired of making typos. I really need glasses. My eye appointment is tomorrow. Perhaps the world will be a little less blurry...one can only hope!

At 15:25 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Been to work and now am back for a couple hours. Loving this week of flex time!

Gayle AND Beez have turned into garden DEMONS and have shooed me away and are making Plans for my garden. They look at me sadly from time to time, as if to say poor girl, just LOOK what she has done to this place.

Mim's porch is done! I now have one screamed porch and a new angel fountain on Magic's which will be done SOON. It's not as big as the other fountain, but it cost half as much and the porch is a lot smaller, so I think it will work for the guy.

It's pretty bizzare. I'll take pics.

At 15:26 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

YOU have a thesis in, Erin, you will get a Scream porch and hot tub soon! It works like that you know.

At 15:35 Blogger Phiala said...

Erin! Congrats! What's your topic?

Q, I'm not sure, exactly: I was not rewarded for my thesi with hot tubs or scream porches. I do however have a courtyard, so I suppose it's okay. :)

At 15:36 Blogger Phiala said...

Oh, and OSS, got your walking shoes to hand? There will be no backing out on this, you know.

At 15:44 Blogger Marjorie said...

OSS Is it time for you to walk home yet? The time difference makes this hard to work out from here. But WALK. WALK, Woman!

Q, If I knew Thesis = hot tub I might have stayed at University longer...

Can't wait for photos of screamed in porch and fountains. . .and garden.

I also realised that right now, almost all the flowerws in my garden (except the king-cups and the strawberries) are purple. I ahve to admit that I didn't plant most of them, They just happened.

At 15:48 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I don't know what Erin's thesis is but I know I met her when she interviews Boss on Beowulf for it.

The weird thing is that Beez is FINDING flowers and bushes in my yard that I didn't know were THERE....She seems to be moving them different places. Cool.

And I have grandfather'd in any flowers already growing, purple or not.

Mim is on her Screamed porch. She thinks this is pretty cool. And is looking for a Way Out. Venus is hiding. Hans scares her.

At 15:49 Blogger AletaMay said...

Yay Erin! Yay!

Glad to know Gayle and Beez have things well in hand! Wish I could have been helping today, maybe some day soon.

OSS. Time to walk home no?

I am going crazy trying to prepare for a weekend on the road for family obligations. Must balance this out with Charlie's tonight! And at least one good stiff drink!

At 15:53 Blogger Cecily said...

At 16:13 Blogger Marjorie said...

Also, I meant to say - congratulation, Erin, on getting your Thesis handed in! I would be interested to hear what your subject it, too.

"In the New Fiendocracy, every fiend will have a hot tub, a screamed porch, and hot & cold running BLL's and / or Cabana Boys... "

Fiendocracy Come! Anything we can do to hurry the day along???

I think I might sneak off just a teensy bit early, head home (on foot, thank you very much), and... write fiction. *gasp*

If only I weren't bogged down in editing instead of working on the new Maggie story... *grin* But I'd like to apply for a writing workshop, and I need 8000 words of readable fiction (3 chapters) by next month. (Yikes!) Instead, I have 70,000 words of unreadable fiction. On the good side, I finally figured out what's wrong with it.

At 17:04 Blogger ariandalen said...

W00T! Go Erin!

One screamed porch down, one to go. Does Magic's fountain match the new mirror, perchance?

We need to trim back our monster bay tree. I will be trying to dry leaves. Is anybody interested in free bay leaves? The tree is at least 20' tall and 8'-10' wide.

Cecily, "BLL" is Barely Legal Lesbian. See comments in previous post. :)

At 17:28 Blogger Cecily said...

Thanks Ariandalen. I knew it was something like that, it was tickling my memory cells. But I barely have the stamina to read through all the comments on the current blog, much less go back through them. *lol* I won't forget now! I need to get me one of them.

At 17:39 Blogger One Sock Short said...

After an hour I realized must have missed my cross street, since I should have reached home by then. I blame Boss, who had kindly offered to read to me to distract me from the fact that I was exercising. (OK, it was an audiobook on my ipod, but I like my version better.) Anyway I was apparently too distracted and got lost. Doubling back almost doubled my walk, so I am well exercised now.

I missed the BLL stuff on the last post and had just thought it was a variation of BFF. heh.

I'm picturing the Gardening Babes overhauling Q's yard. How cool is that? We can add gardening to the Fiendish Support List. Wish I was there to help!
