The Day The Organ Came!

Today, as you know, we Moved The Organ, that I bought yesterday for $30 at a garage sale. I've always thought the Spooky House could use an Organ, and I had thought that any of the ones in the House on the Rock Organ Room, would do well. But lacking one of those, I figured one would appear in time.

One did. At a garage sale in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. The women said to make her an offer, on this old Church Organ, and I had no idea, nor inclination to spend a couple hundred $$ on it, but her daughter whispered "Give her $30, we want it OUT of here.." And darned if she didn't take it! My Horse Trainer friends Melissa and Paul rashly offered their horse trailer to move it in, and Woodsman Hans has a good nature, so off we went to get it today.

Th picture above is the horse trailer is of it in my driveway. This next one shows just how exactly difficult it might have been to get it there. Paul is my Hero of driving. (Tho in fairness, Melissa did say that I had not seen HER park a trailer yet, and ought to reserve judgement.)

Amazing. You see, this Organ was HEAVY, like several hundred pounds, and taking it up from the street was not an option. It is staying where it IS. Tho we did have to spend a couple hours re-arranging the rest of the room and the kitchen to accommodate it.

Cool or WHAT?? I love this thing! And make perfectly hideous noises on it! I want to play Bach's Tocatta and Fugue, at least that first bit, in a long black dress and veil......I shall have a party.

We brought Cabal along on this Adventure, as he likes this sort of thing. Or anything really, as long as he gets to ride along. I thought perhaps we could introduce him, in a controlled way, to the Bengals. Or not. You can't see it, but I am HOLDING that dog. Mim re-considered her position, And decided UP was good.

Her face kind of says it all. WHAT the HELL is that and WHY is it HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????

The funniest thing was Cabal trying to figure out where she WENT. Took him quite a while. Every so often he would come to me and do his Puzzled Face. Like "I found her! It's a CAT! I can get her! Help me!"

He spent the rest of the afternoon, happily, I believe, staring at her. Every so often he would run over and tell me about it.

It is good to have an Organ.

And HUGE thanks to Woodsman Hans, and Horsetrainers Melissa and Paul. I owe you guys!

Love and Music, of a sorts,
Lorraine

Spooky Organ for Spooky House is a win! Mim's face is exactly the face that my roommates' cat Kelis gets whenever we have a dog over. My cat, Mo, while terrified of dogs is used to them from when we lived at my parents'. But Kelis gets the very same "WTF is that and why is it in MY house?" She also gets the same look whenever one of my baby-having friends brings their babies over.

And you know the true test of a friend - they help you move heavy stuff...and relocate inconvenient corpses to Mexico.

At 19:27 Blogger DataGoddess said...

So cool - I can't wait to see you at it in the black dress and veil!

Cabal looks like he just wanted to play, and why won't the pretty kitty come down to play?! Silly goggie!

The last time we had a dog in our house (she was just being taken through to the back yard), my bengals hid on the cabinets and my nine pound tabby cat chased the shepherd-mix dog through the house, then stood guard at the back door growling and fluffed up until we were done with our party and our friends took their dog away again.

Hilarious.

Hi Steph! Mim fought for her territory. Venus HID.

Adri, I am not sure I wanted to know what might have happened, Bengals Do Not like dogs...

Lyndyn, a friend will bail you out of jail. A true friend will be sitting there beside you saying " WOW that was fun.."

At 20:22 Blogger One Sock Short said...

That last picture was the best.

I've got nuthin'. Slept too late this morning, had unplanned nap in afternoon, and have accomplished not one thing all day. Which would all be worth it if I felt rested; but I don't. Sorry to whine. I did enjoy the post.

At 20:24 Blogger Jess said...

Wow! Now that is quite literally several hundred shades of Awesome. \o/

Hee hee! The Staredown pic is making Paul and me giggle like loons. What you do, see, is click for full size, then pan back and forth with the scroll bar...

Mim...Cabal...Mim...Cabal.

What? Yes, I did that. Of course I did that. Why wouldn't I do that? Should I not do that?

At 20:28 Blogger vampi said...

omg the organ is even more amazing than i imagined. i had a mental image of the batshit insane woman in edwards scissor hands type of organ. that is sooo much coooler than what i imagined.

still need some pics of mouse plate :)

so, the house onthe rock looks freaking amazing. it's far away, isn't it :( i don't think i would ever leave i would be taking too many pictures.

I'm with vampi, it's even cooler than i had imagined as well!
All those pictures are so great!

We had the fundraiser auction/concert for my friend Sarah today and there was a great turnout and tons of wonderful auction items. The signed Dangerous Alphabet went (when i last checked) for $25, the custom hula hoop my sister made and donated sold for $40 and the bottle of champagne we put it also went for $40. The best bit about the hoop was the 6 year old girl out on the dance floor hooping up a storm! It was awesome.

We left w/ music lessons for ben, a cool big framed photo of chain-link and barbed wire and a Ministry poster from a show here in town we missed because ben was 2 mos. old for it.

Great, Great gig, Sarah is truly loved around here and for good reason.

Ok, done w/ my novel. Back to playing Wii :)

It was an ALL afternoon stare-down, truly!!!!!!!!!

I keep sitting in my Romance Room tonight, loving this Organ.

At 21:10 Blogger ariandalen said...

Cool pictures! :)

I had a feeling that you would need to do some rearranging to get the organ into its spot. ;)

So, what do Venus and Mim think of of this mighty musical instrument that, so far, makes a mighty noise? Are they still talking to you? What do Their Majesties think of all the noise? Is Magic hiding again? Oh, the things that go through my little fiendish mind.

And DataGoddess, cool link to webcam! You can even see them at night!

At 21:15 Anonymous Anonymous said...

That is super cool! Can't wait for the pics of the Veiled Fab Lo playing Bach! I love the pictures of Cabal. He has the same look that my GSD gets upon a Great Cat Discovery!

At 21:18 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

They TOTALLY disapprove of any re-arranging. Completely. Mim hasn't peed on t tho YET which is a good sign. Venus explored it all over, Mim ignores it, so far.

Magic MEWED a lot this evening and I went into him often. I really want my screened porches...

At 21:33 Blogger Ticia said...

I love that organ. Perfect for you. Perfect for your house.

You said no animals were killed, but what about humans? Did everyone escape unscathed?

At 21:43 Blogger Bulfinch's Aglaia said...

Coolest. Perfect. You rock and roll in so many many THOUSAND THOUSAND ways!!

At 22:48 Anonymous Kate said...

It's so beautiful! I had no idea what to expect. The organ in the church where I grew up is not at all that beautiful. Just amazing -

Yes, favorite photo is Cabal looking up and Mim looking down. Cabal is a similar shape to my dogs - I have NEVER tried to bring our younger husky anywhere near a small animal that I like (she has pursued and dispatched a possum, several mice, and taken on two skunks).

I can already imagine the Spooky House with the Spooky Music and you in the Spooky Dress and Spooky Veil.

At 22:50 Blogger vampi said...

so, i'm thinking. someone needs to take a sepia colored video of Q playing the organ with the lace and leather...that would go so awesomely on your profile

At 23:05 Blogger ariandalen said...

Tangwyn isn't fond of change, either. Especially if it's his travel box. DD2 was moving it around last week, and he was running up and down the stairs and around rooms meowing. Well, it was really closer to "Mrr. Mrr. MROW!" As soon as she left it alone, he got in it and took a nap. I won't let her move it if he's in it. Apparently he knows this.

He isn't real happy when I clean, either. At least, not until he realizes that he has a spot that he can stretch out in the sun on that he hasn't had in a while. ;)

At 23:08 Blogger Beez said...

*laughing herself silly*

Yup, in black with veils- almost crazy cat lady with organ, skeletons, cats and one ghost dog playing toccata and fugue.

Life with you is never dull Miss Q.

At 23:49 Blogger gaypet said...

Very nice!! Hours of fun.

Everyday is Halloween.

At 00:23 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Mim is clearly disapproving of Dog (and you for bringing him in).
Cool organ indeed! Lovely nest-y shape to it.
I do not know how Magic, next door, or even the other cats will like the sound of it, though...

At 00:26 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Thanks for the best giggle over Mim and Cabal Lorraine. So perfectly dog and cat.
That organ is WAY cool. You are going to have a ball learning to play it.

At 01:04 Anonymous kali_licious said...

Ooooh that's very pretty. So the romance room is where everyone will end up if you have a Halloween party..singing spooky songs around the organ.:) (I note the very cool organist miniature you have from Halloweentown there on the shelf.)

Mim is clearly disgusted that you brought That Dog into her house. I kind of figured Venus would hide. The staredown picture is my favorite though. Cabal looks so puzzled while Mim is trying to stare death rays at him. LOL

At 02:30 Blogger Marjorie said...

fantastic! That last photo is great - Mim obviously knows Cabal can't get to her there, and he's still hoping it might be possible to persaude her to play..

I wonder whther anyone has scored any music for organ and 5 Bengals? Maybe they will sing along with you when you start to play. . .

Chantrelle, good to hear the findraiser went well.

At 03:28 Blogger Marjorie said...

I also love the back-archy picture of Mim, with the incidental skeleton in a gibbet cage. every home should have one.

At 04:41 Blogger Lexocat said...

Wow. This is terrific. Congrats!

And I think it's also my favorite set of photos you've posted to date. Each one is a little story.

Were you living out here I have a friend who could teach you as much (or as little) of that piece as you'd care to learn. He plays it with shivery magnificence.

At 08:31 Blogger One Sock Short said...

I second the sepia tinted video request.

Have Venus and Mim forgiven you yet for moving their stuff?

At 08:41 Blogger spacedlaw said...

And the fishies?
What of the fishies? (provided there are any left)

At 08:47 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Morning all!

All Venus and Mim are sure of is that they want breakfast. As far as the fishies go, there are 2 left, and they seem fine. Like the Organ, they don't move.

Very sleepy yet.

We just fired our biggest/most profitable client for non-payment/late payment, which means my best employee's hours are cut down to 5-10 a week until we can find something else. He told me last week if it happened, he wanted to stay on and work commission sales, but we were hoping it wouldn't come to this.

I feel awful and I'm wondering if it's even wise to post this, as I'm somewhat identifiable here, but I need Fiend support.

At 11:52 Blogger Marjorie said...

Oh Adri, so sorry to hear that.

At 11:52 Blogger Phiala said...

Oh Adri, that sucks. But if client doesn't pay, then isn't the most profitable client, and SOMETHING has to happen. But it's really unfortunate when it cuts into the money for hiring good employees. Yuck. :(

At 11:55 Blogger One Sock Short said...

{adri}

That's a lousy position to be in, I know. I hope things improve for you and your employee soon. At least there was a backup plan already under discussion. Here's hoping it's a temporary one.

At 11:58 Blogger Marjorie said...

If the client won't/can't pay you aren't left with any choice:

It sounds as though your employee still has a lot of faith in you and the company, and you in him - that has to bode well for the future.

So sorry you are having such a crappy experience.

What Phiala said, Adri. You did the right thing-- and it sounds as though your employee understands that, which is good. I hope things work out for everyone.

At 12:32 Blogger ariandalen said...

Long, weird, tough work but the view out that window made up for it.

Just finished bailing out the washing machine. Fortunately, it broke after the 1st rinse cycle, so the clothes (underwear, thank fod) weren't soapy, and I could just dry them. 1 nightgown, 1 t-shirt, 1 pair of slacks and 1 light jacket; it could have been all slacks, or all dress shirts or all t-shirts. After an hour the underclothes are dry, and the water is all out of the tub. Water is heavy. It sloshes when you walk. I am done - 2 aspirin and bed for me.

Wonder how much this repair will be?

(belatedly occurs to me that this is probably less exciting if you're not british...)

At 07:10 Blogger Phiala said...

Yes, I got my car last night, finally. It's sitting in my driveway in that picture, really it is!

Hooray! We did go away this weekend, but decided not to camp - predicted to be rainy and cold, though it turned out not to be. over 6 hours of driving for 6 hours of fun. Even Grendel had a good time. People to pet him, you know... :)

(Anyone on Twitter last night saw these already, and anyone who reads my blog will see them again later today.)

I would like to stay here on the couch with the cat, but I suppose paying for the car would be easier if I went to work. But horrors, I broke my French press yesterday in a half-inch fall at just the wrong angle, so I'm not sure I can go to work!!!

At 07:12 Blogger Phiala said...

But I did get to be #100 all unknowing, so maybe today will be okay after all. :)

At 07:19 Blogger Marjorie said...

Ticia - that was lovely!
Phiala - yay for new cars! Boo for broken presses!

Adri - yay for red nails! Rock the scarlet, tootsie!

And, bees you say? I shall investigate...

At 07:53 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Marjorie - Seeing as Boss is a very busy person, could you please explain Blue Peter? I'm imagining a children's show that all UK children grow up knowing and loving, so getting a badge for appearing on it is Very Exciting. Am I at all close?

At 08:19 Blogger Phiala said...

A French Press is my very important and essential contraption for making coffee at work so I don't have to drink the sludge that comes out of the communal pot.

It's a glass beaker with a filter on a plunger arm. Add coffee grounds and hot water, then press the plunger down at the end of the brewing time. Also makes good tea.

My new one is not glass. And I must most urgently go and test it out now.

At 08:21 Blogger Marjorie said...

OSS - yes - pretty close- Blue Peter is a very long running BBC kids programme - started in 1958 or 1959, I think.

It typically has the presenters making stuff out of household rubbish - highlights have included dalek cakes and a model of Tracey Island from Thunderbirds - it always used to be live (hence the shock of learning the Himself was filming today, for edition to be broadcast next week)and there was a very famous show when they had a baby elephant on, from London Zoo, and it peeed everywhere...

I has always been squeaky clean and slightly do-gooding - they have a charity appeal of some kind every year.

You get a Blue Peter badge for being on the shoe, or winning their competitions. About 3 years ago there was massive public outrage after Blue Peter badges appeared on e-bay.

Not eveyone loves it, but *eveyone* knows it - and some of the carchphrases have entered the national consciousness...

Because it's only a 1/2 hour programme they didn't have time to wait for paint to dry or cakes to cook, so after showing you each stage it would be '...and here's one I made earlier' and becasue it is BBC not commercial they can't ever name brandnamed products, so it was always 'double-sideed sticky tape for speed' and 'washing up liquid bottles' rather than sellotape or fairy liquid.

So I can't help imagining "so here's a child whose eyes I buttoned earlier.."

I think the badges were always exciting and important becasue they had to be won/earned - children who have acheived something, or won competitions, could get them, as well as famus guests.

I am sinking deeper into the nostalgia so will stop now...

Phiala, I understand. They are sold as cafetieres over here. I now know exactly what you mean, and why one breaking is such a disaster. (I was imagining something v.esoteric and weaving or yarn-related!).

Marjorie, I thought that it was probably a nomenclature problem, and you'd know just what I meant. :)

Breaking this one was very annoying (half-inch drop should not be lethal!), but not nearly as traumatic as the previous one. It shattered into little pieces all over my carpeted office floor.

(And before you think that maybe I shouldn't be allowed to own glass objects: you may well be right, but I did only break two over the span of five years of daily use...)

PS - if you watch Dr Who, the 'Abzorbaloff' monster in the 'Love & Monsters' episode was the result of a Blue Peter competition - Comp was 'design a Dr Who Monster, with the winning entry being written into an episode.

Thanks Marjorie! Yes, it was that whiff of nostalgia everyone was sending out that made me suspect a kid's show of some kind :)

I've looked in vain for bee news.

I imagine that they are out Dealing With The Bees. :)

But we know that bees have arrived? Shiny!

Birdchick just twittered something about bees and packages... a bit incoherent, but apparently bees have arrived?

Ah! I see I don't twitter-stalk enough fiends. Off to add Birdchick...
