Home For Hope, and Some Amazing Thea Gilmore....

Hope is in her new home! She and the kittens went to the vet yesterday, all good, shots, etc. Today, Gayle drove 2 hours each way to come and pick her up, and deliver her to her new family. As you can see, she will be loved. She comes back in two weeks for her spay, the vet said she needed to be away from the kittens, who are weaned, until then.

One kitten has a home, Agent Orange, now Sylvester, has been adopted. I still have two VERY cute grey babies, one boy one girl, who are ready for their homes....

Which brings me to this: The mail came today. THANK YOU! The Fiver For Hope Fund thanks YOU. This Teenage Mother, dumped in my yard, has a new home, a chance at a wonderful life, as do her babies. This IS making a difference, and as these vet bills are getting up there, I don't know how to tell you how much your help means to me.

Thank you. Someone needed to care. And you did.

And onto some music....

I've been listening to the new Thea Gilmore album, Recorded Delivery, for the past few days. I love Thea's music. Been listening, LOTS of listening, for a few years now. She is an amazing songwriter, with the kind of voice that can haunt you nights. Or days. She hangs around on you, she does.

I've never had a chance to hear her live, and so was interested in her new live cd, despite the fact that I don't generally like live cd's. THIS particular cd blew me away. The sound is studio quality, but the performances are LIVE. I've never had a live cd effect me quite like this.

I have been in the studio. I know what comes out when you record a song, each track separately, over a period of days.

I know what a live show is like. I know how it is different, there is an energy that comes out for the people in the audience, that can't come out on a studio track. Recorded Delivery CATCHES that sexy, seductive, magic, slinky cool live energy, but with studio quality sound.

She got it on tape, to use an archaic term. And I am not at all sure that has been done before.

Here is her latest blog entry, where she talks about record labels, and a new idea of hers. Sign up. Now.

If you can see her live, go you, and get there.

If you can't, get this CD.

You will be there.

Love, Hope and A Live CD,
Lorraine

Ah, clearly she will be loved, and hurrah for Gayle making the Long Drive!

I love Thea Gilmore's music and normally I'm not fond of lice CD's either. This sounds very worth my while.

Good things! And Fiend meet-up on the horizon. More good things.

Spiders, bears, bumbles - you lead an exciting - hope filled - life.
It's hot here in Chicago. Daughters looking for coolest spots to sleep in the house. There will be girls everywhere and anywhere.

Grumpy husband means I need to go mediate. Sleep well tonight.

Last comment for days - I'll be traveling, and meeting some of my dear fiends for the first time.

Little scared. Very tired. Tomorrow is also a day.

(Temps dropped from 97 - 71 in about an hour. Who would live in the midwest?)

Night, Fiendom. Next time I say that, I'll be in the midst of you.

At 22:29 Blogger AletaMay said...

Yeah Beez, those lice CDs are often, well, lousy.

What a little cutie set to love Hope.

I am checking out the CD for sure and I think we'll be getting a lot of our art of all types through such subscription scheme's over time.

Aline, ANYTHING by Martin Millar. Start with Lonely Werewolf Girl. Or may as well just order everything he has written, you will anyway.

Also Robin McKinnley's Sunshine.

Siri, don't be afraid. I mean, how bad can they be?

Hope SO wanted to be an indoor kitty, and now she has a HOME. I've never even met the women who took her in, but I am so beyond happy, and KNOW Hope has a good home.

I hope she reads this blog, and maybe comments here...

thanks for the tip! I will look for these books. Hope my bookshop has some of these(they have a big range of books in English), otherwise I will have to wait for 3 weeks :S
but guess it´s worthy :D

Sunshine is possibly my favorite book ever. Sigh. And she's not planning a sequel.

Got to go to bed. Got some stuff done today - planting, embroidering something for my friend Anna, and exercise.

On the minus side, I seem to have lost my iPod wall charger and my curved embroidery scissors, both last seen with daughter. They may never be found...

Sleepy now! Will start packing tomorrow.

Aline, how is your boyfriend? Still thinking good thoughts for him, and you. :)

Awwww...Hope is going to be a very loved, very happy kitty from now on.

Have a safe trip, Siri! See you soon. :)

It may be hot in Stillwater, but we're having 100+ degrees F the past couple of days with more forecast for the foreseeable future in Central Texas. Somebody want to send a tropical storm that will land between Houston and Corpus Christi so we can get some rain? Oh, well, we'll be in Washington state for a week after Fiendom Come. Just enough to get slammed by the heat when we get back. ;)

At 23:18 Blogger ariandalen said...

::sigh:: I'm already missing the Fiends that won't be at Fiendom Come. :/
This, coupled with the butterflies in my stomach at actually meeting Fiends face to face, makes for strange thoughts. Good thing I'm used to strange. ;)

Perhaps bed is in order.

Um....hello. Is this thing on?

Wonderful news of Hope. Always good to be able to say that (in a secular sort of way....)

I'm between zombie stages right now (two days off? RILLY???!!!) and realized (esp after that gentle reminder..thank you and you know who you are) that it would be good to type some hellos to all you wonderful fiends.

I do miss you. Frequently and often. (But my aim will be better next time? hehe.)

Pleased at the coming Fiendocracy, though terribly disappointed to miss it. Like to say something pithy like "there in spirit, of course!" but I might need all the spirit bits here :) Let's just say, there in heart.

You will all have an amazing time, I know this. Much photos, yes?

Okay, I'm dropping grammar again (and that stuff's heavy.) Time to revert. Zombie state in three ... two ..waaaannnnnnn......

I think Hope is in the right place. I will keep y'all posted.

I will be in Stillwater with M on Friday afternoon/evening and then be kid-less and ready for good times on Saturday. I am very excited. That said, Sat will be my first night away from M. EVER. So don't mind me if I have a few and start crying. ;)

See some of you soon! Already miss those not attending.

Na, I love the Big Roadside Egg. Now I'm hungry.

Oh god. The gutter guys are here already. They got here at 6:30. Was up by then, but not dressed yet. What is it with these guys? They come, they position ladders strategically around my house. Then they go quiet like the Dead. When I go out to check they appear to have vanished, truck and all, but the rope that anchors the ladder scaffold quivers, quivers. Now I hear footsteps above my head. What are they doing? (Apart from, you know, fixing my gutter.)

As for the bear...
I don't know. We don't see much of these in my suburb. You could keep Hans and Cabal on patrol. After all it DID work once. If you guys are worried about meeting one when Cabal is goign for a walk, maybe you can take something with you which is noisy and might scare the bear?

Hellie, never read Robin McKinley??!! I suggest starting at the beginning and work your way slowly to the present day. The Damar books (The Blue Sword, the Hero and the Crown) were her first, I believe. I'm so jealous, what a treat you have in store.

Got a double whammy of bad news last night: my boyfriend broke up with me and my 13-year-old cat seems to have a kidney problem. Yikes. Luckily, I just borrowed McKinley's _Deerskin_ from a fiend, it's a very healing book.

Hey it's Dr Paul! I've been wondering how you're doing. When last seen, you were job hunting? I'm intimately with the PhD style of doing that, seeing as how it took me 4 years to find a permanent one... not that that's encouraging, I realize. I hope you're having better luck. See you this weekend!

OSS, NO hiding in the airport. I need my roomie to knit with, and so that you can admire my fantastic new yarn.

I made it home in good time, only to find that NOTHING that was supposed to have been done was tended to. You would think that Nick could manage to take care of the things that I do *all the time* for a week or two now or then while I'm out of town. I think that *every time I travel* and yet it isn't true. I itemized them before I left: mow grass, tend catbox, etc. Not a thing, not even the catbox. *&#^$(^#!!

So I drove 560 miles, cleaned the catbox, mowed all the (exceedingly tall) grass, picked the lettuce... I'm now drinking a beer in the courtyard with the cat and laptop (dog is outside), and eating peas from the world's smallest pea patch. Yum!

And you will all be happy to hear that I'm now doing laundry. Clean clothes for MN.

Kid you not, was passed on the highway by a house today. Wondered what etiquette calls for when a house is following you on the highway at something over the speed limit -- stay right and let it pass you as normal? Or move left so the house doesn't have to change lanes? I got left, but then the truck in front of me slowed to turn left without signaling so I had to brake hard, just as the house and its attendant "wide load" pick-up truck whizzed by on the right. Etiquette fail for all, I think.

Yay for Hope the kitteh and her new family.

{{{Hope & kitteh}}}.

Sorry, road weary and fuzzy-brained, but good thoughts to all, and wishing safe travels to those traveling.

Awww... Get well soon.
And Val.

Glad to hear your BF is OK, Aline

Congrts on ouse, Beez, annd hugs and sympathy for Hope.

Gayle, I think Siri and I may be eading out to Stillwater today to see where stuff is.

Bears?! we don't usually get them in wiltshire. I think the proper way todeal with them is to not step on the crcks in the pavement, but maybe thet only works on urban bears...

I'm meeellltiiiiiiing!

Hot and humid. And we haven't crossed the border yet. Oh dear.

But we shall later today, and continue south, and be within a few hours of Stillwater come evening. Am stopping early, because I really need to work this evening for a few hours, plus we drove too far yesterday, and seems a kind thing for the monsters, who did extremely well yesterday, poor bugs.

Congrats Beez!!!!! May it go smoothly from here out.

I know there's more...

Yay for Aline's guy being better.

Lexa, hope you get to feelin' better soon. Soup is probably not in order at the mo'. {cool compresses} perhaps?

Right. Up with monsters. Put some grub in 'em and hit the road.

P.S. stayed in a hotel with actual, real, honest-to-metal KEYS.

Which monsters, Na? You are bringing monsters?

At 08:21 Blogger Na said...

Yes, two monsters what go nearly everywhere I do. But they are pretty well behaved. And cute.

Morning. Fell back asleep. Sleeping with the Royals this week. Not sure they approve of this. And let me tell you, when Lear uses the little box, it is a PRODUCTION!

I worry about the babies, Syl is going to his new home next week, but I just don't have the time that I think they need. I need a home for these babies.

Good morning, fiends!

I am slightly less shocked today, and trying to focus on Carrrrrmelita, my cat. Thanks for your hugs and good wishes! I think I will be a Single Homeowning Lady for a while, no dating. Just dancing and exploring my new 'hood.

Beez, WOO HOO for homeownership! Shall we bore the leopard-print pants off of everybody with appliance-shopping stories? :)

Na, passed by a HOUSE?! That would be crazy! And I am wanting to see Monster Photos, yes I am!

Hurray for the Fiendfest! I am going to enjoy it vicariously, and maybe find a wifi spot so I may view the show this coming weekend.

Um, bears?

At 10:09 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Sounds like a good plan, Hope. And maybe a good chance to focus on making your new home truly yours. Best wishes for Carrrrrmelita.

And, as a life-long apartment dweller, I enjoy vicarious home improvements as much as vicarious gardening, so you and Beez should definitely feel free to indulge in the subject.

Tying up some loose ends at work this morning. Then going home early to tie up loose ends there. It's been too darn hot to get much done this week, but I'll have to buckle down tonight if I'm to go play in the Fiendom tomorrow.

Thanks, OSS! I also found my current knitting project (sadly neglected since the whole house-buying/moving frenzy started, 6 weeks ago) and knitted for 15 minutes or so. AMAZING how calming that was.

At 10:37 Blogger Hellie said...

Carrrrrmelita - what a lovely name for a cat! Hope you are both healing, knitting is very therapeutic - I am rubbish at it but still it's fun!

And I agree with OSS, living in an apartment and longing for my own house, the more appliance buying /decorating stories the better!

Found another BIGASS Spider.

Sigh.

At 11:16 Blogger Arwenn said...

Any chance it's the same BIGASS spider from yesterday and someone let him back in? Maybe Birdchick can band it :)

At 11:20 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

She had better come quickly then. Orkin comes tomorrow. WHAT are they eating is what worries me most...

At 11:20 Blogger vampi said...

hahaha band a spider. lol. i am thinking of missing my flight if there are more stories of bigass spiders. i am really terrified and will scream like a horror movie victim if i see one.

today is laundry and pack day because i am a procrastinator. tomorrow is flight. *twirls*

At 11:24 Blogger Jess said...

Vampi, appaear to be living parallel lives today.

*laundries*
*packs*

I cleaned my kitchen, too, and vacuumed. Go me.

At 11:25 Blogger Arwenn said...

That's a point, what if they hunt in packs for the REALLY BIGASS spider you haven't met yet?

The Orkin man can cuz he spritzes it with stuff and makes the world bug-free.

At 11:26 Blogger Jess said...

We appear. Not "appaear". Aigh.

At 11:26 Blogger vampi said...

not to raise panic, but i didn't think the spray was effective on spiders because they have es and are up out of the residue.
gah now im' thinking about spiders:( gross

At 11:31 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

If the bugs they are eating go away, the spiders will too. It bothers me I have not SEEN any bugs in my house, but Orkin says they live where you can't see them. ICK. Ugh.

I don't mind the spiders really.

At 13:19 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Spiders are good. I like spiders myself.

Hei ho, hei ho, it's off to the airport I go ...

At 13:39 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Just bought a summer dress. Still in shock. The bodice is a halter top. I haven't worn a halter top since the 70s. I *will* be wearing something over this thing.

At 14:13 Blogger Arwenn said...

OSS - Cute little cropped lightweight sweater thingies work really well in my experience.

At 18:30 Blogger vampi said...

i just bought 2 tops, 1 sexy outfit for concert, and 3 pairs of shoes. i am out of control!

it is so hard picking out clothes for travel. i have no idea what will want to wear tomorrow let alone while on vacation. mrrrrrr.

At 18:30 Blogger Ani said...

OK! finally leaving work for vacation time, starting with a flight to Minneapolis tomorrow! Terribly excited!

At 18:39 Blogger Jane said...

Oh packing...always want to bring the entire closet...

At 18:44 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Tomorrow, work will have to stop at a certain point, as I have a concert, a very special one, to do.

Today, work does not seem to be stopping.
