Catiching Up On Bits Of Things.....

Lots of catching up here today, while I have a moment...

First off, the rain IS going to stop, and I am going to Irish Fair today. If you are in Minneapolis/St Paul, this is a really great, FREE, 3 day long Festival. Mainstage tonight starts a 4, The Eddies, Tim Malloys, Young Dubliners and Drop Kick Murphies. Three days of some of the best Irish (And Alt-Irish) going.

I'll be there tonight and there WILL be no rain. Come say hi!

I really want to go today, as this weekend is the last Tim Malloy's shows. Just heard the band is calling it quits with it's current line-up, and Adam Stemple is moving on to other projects. They play the Irish Fair at 5:30 today, and then Kierran's in Minneapolis tonight and Saturday night. If you'd like to catch them once more, or if you've never seen them, this would be the time for it.

Speaking of concerts to catch, I saw Tori's show the other night, and loved every minute. REALLY great concert. It made me happy. She's playing a lovely mix of old and new and sounds GREAT.

Tomorrow I am hanging with the Birdchick, always one of my favorite sorts of days. We're going over to the County Fair to take pics of our Two Blue Ribbons Honey and walk around proudly, and then down to the hives to see what's happening with the Bell Jar. Pics of that too, for you, and for Boss who is currently at WorldCon in Montreal.

I got asked to do an interview for a Brazilian site this week. My second this month. Apparently, I am huge down there. Go Brazil! I don't think it's in English, but if they don't mind I'll post it here too, as the questions are, well, not the normal sorts of questions I generally get. I think we'll be pondering the nature of good and evil, among other things.

The Royals managed to break two of their food dishes last night. A comment about SOMETHING I am sure, but what, I have no clue. Little Queen Mab is sleeping with me now, and Lear is doing drive-by bed from time to time. And they are blessedly quiet kitties. Little tiny mews when they see me, but not the non-stop conversation at top volume, like, say Magic. My neighbors three houses down have finally figured out he is my cat, and not some sort of weird new bird.

Think that's about it, except there is a strange light on my vacuum. I checked the handy manual and it seems the bag is full, which would explain why it no longer picks up the floor mess. In fact, it's kind of the opposite. It's depositing floor mess from previous vacuuming sessions. I'd THOUGHT it might be tidy of me to vacuum the bedroom floor, as my Cleaning Teen only comes every other week.

Apparently not.

Love and Mess,

I'm really bummed I forgot to interview you for foodporn while we were there! I will next time we're together though!

Wish we could pop over to the fair, sounds like much fun will be had (no doubt w/ Adam involved!).

T-2 days 'til house is overrun by 5 yr olds. Great fun and much bouncing...and chocolate cake! Chocolate Star Wars cake!!

Yay bees and Brazil! You should walk proudly.

At 11:14 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Ha. Yes. The infamous dustbag. It needs replacing every now and then.

Irish fair sounds like fun.
Are you guys playing there as well?

At 11:17 Blogger Adri said...

Hmm. I should probably empty out Roomba's dust bin, too. I was setting it up here at the new place and realized for the first time that there was a filter I was supposed to be cleaning all along. OOPS! (But I did make a sofa cushion out of the cat hair that came out)

Mother in law is still here and today we're going to take her to see the redwoods, provided work cooperates.

At 11:29 Blogger Ticia said...

I have a new vacuum that is bagless. I've been taking the whole cylinder apart to empty it. Last time I went to empty it, I noticed a funny button on the side. Being the curious child that I am, I pushed the button.

And dumped the contents down the front of me and into my shoes.

Thank Fod I had a vacuum handy to clean up the mess. *grin*

At 11:30 Blogger Cecily said...

I am going to totally geek out here.

Housemom geekness in me needs to tell you about my Dyson. OMG BEST. VACUUM. EVER. (Adri, I adore my roomba's too, but I still have to have my upright for quick cleaning.)

Faire geek in me must ask if you have ever been to the MD Ren Faire? And if not, I am inviting you to come join me anytime you want. It is in fact one of the best in the country. (starts the end of this month *squee*)

Also, Adri, I LOVE the redwoods. Seeing them a few years ago was one of the most spiritual and beautiful experiences of my life, and I can't wait to go back west and see them again.

At 11:39 Blogger Aline Martins said...

Yes, we love you down here ;)
if you want I can put it into English when they are done. :D

Cant wait! and please enjoy the Irish Fair for me LOL

At 11:41 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

You can interview me anytime Chantrelle!

One changes the bag? Fods...

I am sorry to disappoint on the Dyson, but I hate them. Merry Housekeeper swears by them and won't use any other. I had one, for a week. One needs a degree to work them, if you are good at such things, they are great, but I am so not.

I have one called "Simplicity"

I've not been to the MD Faire, tho I've heard lovely things about it. Would love to come see it, but I can't see going traveling just now.

At 11:41 Blogger Lioness said...

My vacuum cleaner is a Hoover. It is now 58 years old and it still works great. I do have to take it in 'cause the on/off switch is acting up but it does that every 10 years or so.
Fingers crossed for the no rain. I'd like that forecast for here as well. This is the only weekend in 5 that I am actually home and there is outside stuff that needs doing.

At 11:41 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Thanks Aline! It would be great to know what they will make of it...The questions are really fun, they went all out.

At 11:56 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Next time we can sit down over food, you will be interviewed Q :)

I LOVE my roomba. Hubby got it for me to save my wrists. still have an upright--roomba misses some things (like popcorn and pine needles).

At 11:58 Blogger Cecily said...

Oh you are absolutely right about how complicated they are! I still don't understand everything about it! And you should have seen me the first time I tried to empty the canister. I did the same thing Ticia did and dropped the whole damn thing all over myself. *facepalm* But as for cleaning, it is by far the best I have ever used. My dad used to sell Electrolux door to door, so I have seen a lot of different vacuums in my day. LOL. The Dyson just works the best. But it is a rocket science of sorts.

As for faire, consider it an open ended invitation. ;-) *sings* rain rain go away, Lorraine wants to play!

At 12:03 Blogger vampi said...

Oh adri, i so desperately want to see the big trees.

irish fair sounds awesome sauce. wish i could go.

i would get a vacuum, but i have no carpets. i have some chinese rugs, but they aren't rolled out yet. i need to go have them cleaned.

*squee* over BRB "Blue Ribbon Bees"

At 12:12 Blogger Unknown said...

Just popping in to say hi and I am also on Team Dyson, we got ours last year and it is the love of my life. Er...besides my husband David.

Also, am jealous of Tori-seeing. Only got to see one show on this tour (it was amazing) and REALLY want to see more.

(disappearing back to the lurky shadows)

At 12:13 Blogger Marjorie said...

I like my Dyson. It has an attchment for getting cat hair of furnture which actually gets cat hair off furniture, and when it drowned in a flood they came out to the house & fixed it for free :-) Also, my cousin helped to set up some of their foreign language websites, and she says they are nice people to work for, too.

ALthough a Roomba would be nice, too. (I don't have any carpets either, but it does laminates quite nicely)

Enjoy the Fair.

At 12:30 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Hi Adriana! Nice to hear from you again!

Tori was a really great concert, tho I missed Kitty a LOT. Would have been perfect of she had been there.

I can't make the Dyson work. Merry can, and sometimes Spooky Teen brings it over as she says it is way better than mine.

Mine will work just fine tho, if someone changes the bag thing.

At 12:43 Blogger Marjorie said...

Dyson = The Marmite of vacuum cleaners...

At 13:03 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Ok, I'll bite. HOW is a dyson like marmite?

I like marmite. Handy stuff.

At 13:08 Blogger mistressmousey said...

You need to get one of those bagless dealies. Especially with all the kitty fur I imagine your sucking up. My Hoover is simple and bagless and I [hearts] it.

Brasilians are a lovely, strange, and passionate lot. Kurt's down there now being a rock star (Brasil's about the only place I can still call him that. ;P). Very curious about that interview.

And yay! Kitties and blue ribbon bees!

At 13:10 Anonymous Lysandwr said...

Mummy bought a Dyson a few months ago. Said she'd always wanted one. Our house has never been so vacuumed. We both love it....though the cats aren't so sure. They are old-fashioned that way; they think the Dyson is an inappropriate shape and turns funny :)

Go Brazilian interview! Best sort of Brazilian, er, thing. :) I am very interested to see what questions they ask...

Aline ...reread yesterday's posts...BIG hugs....and wishing you much distraction during the recovery time...

STILL can't post to Twitter. Clearly means I am only a reader, never a ... writer

At 13:18 Blogger Jess said...

They have bag-full indicator lights on vacuums now? This must be The Future.

I have one of them thar Bagless Hoovers, through which you can watch the dirt woosh round and round. When you can see the dirt, it makes you empty the canister more often. (Thanks to cats I usually fill up the thing twice in one cleaning session. Yuck.)

And that convenient bottom-opener button? Oh, don't get e started on that piece of genius. The dirt goes all over the place whether you're aiming for the trash can or your feet. Or in my case, all down my front. Every. Single. Time. And then I still have to take the whole thing apart to get all the fuzz off the filter cone. Argh. Ick ick ick. Bottom line: I want someone else to come and do my hoovering, so I can not get dirty.

I did not intend for this comment to be all about vacuum cleaners. What might this say about me, from a Freudian perspective?

At 13:18 Blogger Jess said...

At 13:19 Blogger Jess said...

Whoa! Double post.

At 13:19 Blogger Marjorie said...

Marmite - either you love it or hate it, no middle ground....

(I did think after posting that the whole string of marmite ads making that poisnt are probably not so well known outside the UK....)

At 13:22 Blogger Jess said...

Marmite is too orangey for crows? No, that's Kiaora.

At 13:30 Blogger Uisge said...

Hearing about Lear's bed drop ins makes my heart squeeze with happiness. Truly they are blessed to have you.

Re Irish Fair - My boss is one of the Eddies (probably the shortest of them). Don't know if I'll see you there or not. Depends on how quickly I finish todays work and when tonight's Fringe begins. Have fun.

At 13:32 Blogger Marjorie said...

Marmite ....

At 13:44 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Oh no, I bought ONE vacuum, that's quite enough! Spooky Teen Cleaner will know how to change it.

Uisge, I do hope to see you there. Rain is nearly done!

Lear also chowed down on my first edtion copy of Please don't eat the daisies. He ATE the thing. No cool. Has no interest in the bad novels I leave about for this purpose.

At 13:49 Blogger Aline Martins said...

oh. yes, I am enjoying these comments, are making me laugh.

as a Brazilian, I was just "called" strange LOL
I knew I was not the most common person, but I don't think we are really that different form the rest of the world (and I have lived in 4 different countries outside South America)... it's nice to read together people's ideas, the world changes too fast ;)

I was asked (when in Europe) if I lived on a tree! LOL

can't wait to read/translate the interview!

BTW, thanks for the support dear Fiends, you are great!

At 13:57 Blogger Ani said...

Huh. Vaccuum cleaners are the topic of the day? Let's see, my Hoover has a problem of the off-switch not working, that has so far been unreplicatable in the shop. Apparently it just doesn't like *me*.

Twitter fiends--my twitter & phone problem went form bad to worse, today. I now can neither send nor receive tweets from my phone. Not. Happy.

So send me some techno-positive vibes, or it'll be a long weekend with communications down. Weren't we just talking about that, Aleta? :-(

At 14:15 Blogger Fluffy said...

Vacuuuuum cleaners! I'd be interested in a Dyson if I could test-drive one to see how noisy they are. I have a Miele upright, which isn't expensive like their canister models. I got it because you can adjust the suction down to "picks up visible dirt and can be operated if you has a headache." V. important if you get migraines and the dirty floors bother you after a week or so. It has HEPA bags, which I like.

At 14:24 Blogger Marjorie said...

Fluffy, Dyson do several which have built in HEPA filters, and I think you can get them as add ons for the ones which don't. Noise-wise I'd say it's not either noiser or less noisy than yer average vacuum...Mine doesn't have adjustments to make it quieter.

At 14:27 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Ah, how I would like to be in Minneapolis. But I'll be there in spirit.

At 14:41 Blogger Cecily said...

Jess, I luckily have not had any problems with the canister emptying since the first time. :-)

Fluffy, I could be wrong, but I am fairly sure that they get quieter the more expensive they are. ;-)

Aline, I wouldn't worry about it, we're all strange. I wouldn't want to be any other way.

At 15:09 Blogger Dan Guy said...

Beware of fleeting Brazilian fame. Molly was big in Brazil for a while, but now most of them have moved on to younger girls. ^_^

At 15:11 Blogger Dan Guy said...

Oh wait, I found a better one! For a while, those Brazilians were even poking around, digging up dirt about Molly's love life!

At 16:58 Blogger ariandalen said...

Have fun at Irish Fair, Ms. Fabulous. :)

At 17:07 Blogger DataGoddess said...

We love our Dyson. Fluffy, it's somewhat noisy, but not roaring. And Ticia, why am I not surprised you emptied it onto your shoes? ;-D

At 17:21 Blogger AletaMay said...

Woah. I did a long comment and it disappeared. In short:

I'll be at the Irish Fair on Sunday to see my lovely godchild dance! It'll be great!

Writing weekend is this weekend. Should be great!

Fod. I really need to vacuum.

At 18:14 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Dan - I don't know whether to be flabbergasted or amused by people using photos of Molly like that! Just WOW.

I have a lovely Bosch vacuum cleaner that has a power adjustment thing like Fluffy's. It warns only to use the highest setting on very dirty floors, and I can tell you that when you do use it, you get the best workout ever. And need to see the chiropractor the next day to put your spine back in alignment.

The things we do to clean our floors.

At 18:19 Blogger dabbler said...

Jess, about your vacuum post, Freud would obviously suck.:-} :-} (Ducking and running....)

At 18:20 Blogger dabbler said...

And, Cecily, was that an open invite to the MD Faire?
I've been to the PA one many times, but have been wanting to check out MD for several years....

At 18:53 Blogger Uisge said...

Sort of made it to the Irish Fair. Left work late so just ran down to the river and listened from the other side. Waved at the tiny people across the way. Will try to make it back this weekend (after farmers markets and more Fringe.)

MD Faire rocks. Used to go regularly when I lived back East. Luckily for me MN Faire is equally awesome.

At 19:37 Blogger Cecily said...

Dabbler, if you would like company/someone to show you around the MD Ren Faire, my husband and I are there, well, a lot. ;-)

At 22:14 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Irish Faire was LOADS of fun. The universe does provide.

I parked, and directly in front of me was the friend I spoke to wistfully two days ago, saying it had been too long and would we ever get together...

The Malloys rocked, and so many friends were there.

Actually, I had a lot more friends than I knew. People kept coming to me and saying hello! Very fun!

I bought an Irish serape too, as it being AUGUST it was chilly. It has clover all over it. Will wear it if I go see Salsa Celtica on Sunday.

Very stylish I was.

At 00:10 Blogger Lynda the Guppy said...

Love, love, LOVE the Young Dubs!!! They're always a very fun show. Have fun! The only Irish Fair I've been to here in Los Angeles was pretty small and it was $18 to get in for ONE DAY.

At 04:45 Blogger Marjorie said...

Irish Fair sounds great - gladyou had time to go, and to enjoy yourself:-)

At 08:20 Blogger dabbler said...

That would be great. I'll have to dig out some garb, it's been awhile...and see if DD wants to go.

Are you on FB? Rather than hijacking the list, we could plan there. I'm not able to do anything till Sept. so I should probably clarify the dates...when is it?

At 08:21 Blogger dabbler said...

And off to the festival site...back later...enjoy your day, all

At 10:21 Blogger Cecily said...

I sure am on facebook! Cecily Israel. My pic is of *cough*Neil*cough* signing my boobs *blush*

At 12:04 Blogger Uisge said...

Dabbler: Susan (who should be emailing you about clean/organizing) is a MD Faire girl, too. She works booths there. Someone else to say hi to.

FabLo: Glad to hear your Irish Fair time went so well. Hope I do get a chance to see you there on Sunday.

At 13:35 Blogger Karen B. said...

Rats! I never did get to see the Tim Malloys perform. Well, I hope that they all have good luck with their other endeavors. Glad you got to see them, Lorraine -- will you catch their other shows too?

I still have the Hoover canister machine that my three housemates and I bought back in um 1987. It uses U-shaped bags where one end always ends up folded closed after you shut the thing.

Electrolux! My grandmother bought one in the '40s or '50s. Last seen, working, in possession of my brother....

At 13:55 Blogger Adri said...

My family has a working Electrolux from the 70s!

I just have the roomba. Whenever my home needs a deep cleaning I call someone else, as this is not in either my or my husband's skillset.

Things bengals have eaten: a first edition book, two diva cups, guacamole burger off of my counter last night (then puked up right in front of me as soon as I got home), cardboard boxes... anyone have anythign else to add to the list?

At 14:12 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Went to the fair! Now for the bees and then some pics!

At 14:12 Blogger Lioness said...

I took my Hoover in once and the repair man was very exited. Said it was an Apartment sized Hoover, mostly popular in England. And it is a great machine. No planned obsolescence here!
Love all the vacuum cleaner talk and envious of those getting to go to Faires. I'm just hovering around my laundry outside, as it is going to start raining (again) sometime soon.

At 14:17 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Yeah! Bees and pictures!

At 14:27 Blogger Marjorie said...

Yay for pictures and bees. Or indeed pictures of bees!

Tybalt isn't a Bengal but things he has eaten include emery boards, cardboard (although to be fair he mostly just chews them)and newspaper.

Tigger, one of the cats of my youthg, had a passion for cucumber and once ate raw rice. And rubber bands.

At 16:33 Blogger Jane said...

Vacuums! We have a Roomba and an Oreck upright. Have wondered about Dysons but they seem so heavy - I should borrow one to see how they are.

At 18:09 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Storms trying to pop up all over!

Working on a new post, if anyone else is sitting around their homes on a Saturday night, just waiting for entertainment...

At 18:37 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Ok. So it's just me here tonight. Fine. Fiends. Huh. Going out and having fun. Well, be that way.

New post is up.

At 18:43 Blogger Aline Martins said...

you are not alone. I am home, working as a bee ;)

At 18:45 Blogger Jess said...

Well: allow me to prove you wrong. I've neither gone out, nor had fun.

If it doesn't rain, might go out for a walk later. But that's it. So there.

At 20:33 Blogger Karen B. said...

I'm home too -- went out for fun this afternoon. Four women, four cats, a swimming pool, and some TV to watch. Lovely.

Tonight is for packing and moving stuff, mostly, with some laundry thrown in for good measure. And, now that you mention it, possibly some vacuuming. Classic BSG on TV (and "Blink" after).

More rain, though maybe not as loud as this morning's storm (which woke me up). Yay for bee pics.

At 20:35 Blogger Uisge said...

I'm home, after much Fringe fun. Trying to hide from the heat and waiting for the rain to come (and watching for Tornados, 'cause the TV told me to)
