Happy Birthday Maddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is the BEST day and that would be because it is MADDY GAIMAN'S 15th BIRTHDAY!!!!! Let the Party Begin! Because it is Maddy's Birthday, it is a Holiday! No one has to work! Everyone will get paid! And everything you you do today should rock your world and the people you love because THAT is what Maddy believes in!

Maddy is a true rock star, not only in her public life, as you can see, here she is hanging by her tour bus with some close friends, but in her private life as well.

So let's not waste time! Top Ten Things That Rock About Maddy!

10. When she was born she had to lie on a glowing green blanket for two days. I forget why, but man, what a great way to start out in the world.

9. She wore nothing but Ball Gowns until she was five and let me put flowers in her hair.

8. Because of her my Ipod has a seriously cool Maddy Playlist of music I never would have known about. (Lady Gaga!)

7. She leaves Post-it notes on my computer telling me how much I rock.

6. She no longer writes these things in pen on my calendar on days that have yet to come.

5. If she ever had a party with more than ten people in the sauna and water came thru the ceiling, she would be very sorry about it.

4. Because of her I got to meet the Jonas Brothers.

3. She loves shoes as much as I do, and knows how to use hair product. (which I do not)

2. She makes everyone around her feel really good about themselves, as if a Big Huge Wonderful thing was about to happen at every moment.

And the Top Thing That Rocks About Maddy:

1. Because she's Maddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love you, girl!

Love and Maddy,
yr Quiche

I've been hanging around work to use the internets for a bit, trying to sort out Phone Ick, but now I really do have to go.

On the up side, it's haircut day! Tho Danny put something in it that appears to have morphed it into white astroturf...? Still, it's short and fun!

Have a great weekend, fiends--I'll catch you on the flipside.

Having said that, it's 102 degrees here. Its' not supposed to get that hot, we don't have A/C here, it's supposed to be 75!! So, we're going to the beach where it should (i hope) be cooler. At least we have a kick-ass escape the heat option.

Saw Tom Jones last night. He was awesome.

At 18:01 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Tom Jones? Man, that would have been wonderful. Enjoy the beach, and the fresh air you should find there.
Right breakfast.

At 07:59 Blogger EmilyLady said...

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to William, now eight years old!!

At 08:00 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Morning. I think. Seems early for it.

Horse people have this early thing going on. Never suggest you meet them for breakfast before riding. You will not like the time they suggest.

Even when you make them move it an hour earlier.

I suspect I will be glad of the ride tho.

At 08:00 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Belay that. I meant make them move it an hour LATER.

Tea.

At 08:05 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Trying to see if they would move it an hour earlier could be a good technique to shake them off but it could back-fire most viciously...

Happy birthday to William.

At 08:59 Blogger EmilyLady said...

How are you feeling today, Nathalie? ... :)

At 10:27 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Still puzzled, flummoxed and jubilant.

At 11:22 Blogger dabbler said...

Belated Birthday Happies for Maddy, who deserves a week of 'em!

And Em, if you feel old, that means it's time to get younger every year! (Believe me, I've been doing it for many years..."But I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now...").

And, huge congrats to Nat, on her Pushcart nomination...

Oh, heck, just hugs all around.

At 11:23 Blogger Phiala said...

Honestly, I think puzzled, flummoxed, and jubilant is a pretty good way to go through life.

Making slow progress on the list of things to do this week... I've heard this rumor that people relax on weekends and vacatiosn, but I'm skeptical.

At 11:46 Blogger EmilyLady said...

No, no, no, not REALLY feeling old. Maybe sometimes like I'm growing up too fast. But not old.

Not sure canning will HAPPEN this year. Still no ripe tomatoes. Weird year.

Watched all the Fireflys. The spaceship ones. Very sad it is done. But still Serenity on Monday. And then I can watch them again.

I don't need NEW things to watch, just good ones.

I think I need to go back to sleep soon..

Look forward to the TMBG album! Dissappointed that they equated paleontology only with dinosaurs, but that's just being picky, I know.

Great news this weekend - the neighborgs got a new place to live and will be moving in one month. Fod works in mysterious ways!

At 03:26 Blogger Jess said...

Happy birthday Maddy! She said, rather belatedly. We didn't know, but we had a party anyway, and Birthday was probably something to do with it. There were sausages.

Well there were.

Also Marjorie and I had noodles-- on a BOAT-- on Friday. It's been a veritable Festival of celebratory activity and I'm sure it's all down to Maddy. :D

Today: Peak District. I assume there are peaks there. We shall see. Then, maybe postcards.

How was the Bill bailey gig, Marjorie?

And what are you flummoxedly jubilant about, Nathalie? I missed something, somewhere.

And hooray for cloverlike octagonal tubs being, erm, flipped. That sounds cool.

Done rambling. Where tea? Need tea.

Lack of ripe tomatoes is part of the "eek" moment yesterday....I am now looking at green tomato chow-chow and mince and all the other bazillion-and-one things you can do with them- including green tomato salsa.

I will be channeling my grandmother for all I'm worth I guess. Luckily I got the freezing directions down for the apple things, since apples are currently occupying most of the kitchen right NOW.

Na- hooray for the neighborgs leaving! Hooray!

Good morning/afternoon/evening/dead of night, Fiends!

Why has Rhode Island suddenly become so cold? And I'm the only one in this house who will miss the days of summer. The hot weather makes my brothers really crabby, and of course that can't be fun.

At 10:01 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Morning Fiends!

A good day today. SPooky Housecleaner is coming to make my house lovely again, so I will come home to CLEAN tonight.

I am meeting up with horse friends for some riding despite the fact I am so sore I can hardly move from the riding yesterday. AND i am going to get my camera before riding so we can have a horse blog tonight.

WoodsmanHans is going to burn a huge pile of brush with the able help of NBB, the Birdchick's husband, so they will be out to.

Loving me some Sunday today!!

Oh my yes.

At 10:03 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Loving me some Sunday too.

At 11:05 Blogger dabbler said...

Beez, for apples, get a dehydrator, or use that peeler/slicey thing that makes tiny thin slices and string 'em up in the sunniest window and let them dry. Dried apples are yummy just to eat, and can be added to all sorts of stuff.

We actually got some red tomatoes... hoping for more, but we have another month, usually.

Dh is cutting the grass for the first time in weeks. We've has 9" of rain this month. That's a quarter of our usual yearly average!

At 12:07 Blogger vampi said...

Good morning fiends. It feels weird to be going about my normal business with this huge ass fire so close. Yesterday was a bit surreal. i took some pictures in an area that is now under mandatory evac, while just down the road in old pasadena, everyone was out shopping like normal. the good news is that some of this brush was long overdue, so after they control the fire, this area will be a little more protected from fires.

so far i'm still in a safe area. fingers crossed.

At 12:11 Blogger Phiala said...

Vampi, scary. We're all worrying about you and all the other people out there (especially those fighting the fires). I hope it rains unexpectedly!

At 13:46 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Those pictures looked scary. It really must be a weird experience.

AAAARRRRGGHH, got a creepy stalker emailing me again. I wish he would back off. Grooooaaaan.

At 13:53 Blogger Beez said...

Block him Emily, or turn him over to us.

I at least will make him very very sorry.

(really- don't cut these guys slack and/or feel sorry for them, they'll take advantage of it)

At 13:57 Blogger EmilyLady said...

The problem is that he doesn't live very far away, and I'm friends with his brother!

At 14:20 Blogger Beez said...

Fine. Sic his brother on him (or send him to me).

At 15:48 Blogger dabbler said...

Emily, how about sending him a completely clear (perhaps words of one syllable) email with copies to his parents, and your Mom, stating that his emails are unwelcome and you want him to stop, or you will report him for harassment.

Something like "Stop emailing me. I am not interested in being friends. Let me be, or I will take legal action."

You may have already done this, of course...

At 16:07 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I know with our crazy stalker fans, ANY response just encourages them.

I find the most effective way of getting rid of them is DELETE. They want the attention. Don't give it to them.

At 16:56 Blogger Jess said...

Nathalie - WOW. :O

Have a peak.

At 18:19 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Jess - somebody cut the top of the peak! Somebody with a very big cheese slicer.

Emily, yuk. Just yuk. I'm not sure whether you should take dabbler's approach or quiche's approach. If he's just trying to rile you -the ignore and delete is good. If its something more, get all the parents and maybe his school in on it, because it may all add up to cyber-bullying.

At 18:31 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I also think no response is a good idea, Lorraine; if only he didn't live so close to me.

At 18:31 Blogger EmilyLady said...

And I know what he wants. He's hitting on me. And hard. Gack.

At 18:33 Blogger Dragonsally said...

ahhh...delete an ignore then!

At 18:38 Blogger Jane said...

Jeez, a stalker. Yuck. I sort of like the tell everyone approach.

As for the ignore approach, when traveling in Istanbul it seemed like everyone in the world wanted to sell you something and walk with you on the street while they were selling. Totally ignoring them is the only response if you're really not interested. Then they don't waste their time on you. Any response is seen as a positive response.

But when they actually KNOW you, that is a bit different. Tell all gets my vote.

At 18:39 Blogger EmilyLady said...

It's funny, his brother is so sweet and playful and innocent and quirky. And this guy is a blunt I-get-what-I-want-any-time-I-want-it stupid kind of guy!

At 18:39 Blogger Jane said...

But I see Sally thinks delete - so hard to know. If only that crystal ball worked a little better...then you would know what's coming...

At 18:42 Blogger gaypet said...

A friend of mine who is in the fire area said it now looks like Mordor outside and she is getting out. I hope So Cal Fiends are safe! Thinking of you.

Emily, is he simply annoying or do you feel threatened? If you feel unsafe then please do not respond to him but collect what he has sent and go to the police. Good luck!!

At 18:45 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Hmmm, hard to get a guy like that off your back, except by ignoring unless it gets threatening.(Then an intervention is needed for sure)

I hope all the Cal people are safe too - being thinking of everyone.

At 19:12 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Gayle, you know what's strange - he really is more annoying than anything else, but my gut - my instincts - always tell me to stay away from him. There was one day he wanted to take me somewhere alone, and I felt disgusted and really weirdly scared. He comes into our house and hangs around for a long while - sometimes an hour or more - just sitting staring at me at the kitchen table. It's gross. And no matter how many hints I drop that I want him to leave ...

At 19:30 Blogger gaypet said...

I'm sorry that you are dealing with this, Emily.

No more hints. Tell him he is in the way and is leaving now. If he won't. Call the police. Sometimes people really don't get it and just need to be told. Sometimes people need to be told by someone with flashy lights on their car. You are strong and have the power to make him go away. It's your house. He can't be there if you don't want him there. Don't tell him he is making you uncomfortable or anything that brings those kind of feelings into it. He is just leaving. One way or another...

Just my 2 cents. I'm sure there are many other ways to deal with it.

At 19:52 Blogger Siri said...

Listen to your gut, EmilyLady - your gut knows.

On another topic, what have you heard about Pippen?

At 19:53 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

Oh, man, Vampi. How's the fire? How are you doing?

Emily, that sucks. I hope he goes away soon. I'm so freaked out for you. I wish there was something we could do.

At 21:11 Blogger ariandalen said...

Emily, I'm with Gayle on the stalker. Don't let him in the house/apartment. Tell the police. Stalking is a crime. The key phrase from him is "I-get-what-I-want-anytime-I-want-it." Under no circumstances allow yourself to be alone with this guy.

{{{{Emily}}}} Take care of yourself!

If the SoCal Fiends don't get rain, at least let the winds die down so that the firefighters can get some breaks built/made.

At 22:25 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Emily, take the power back. Why is he in your house? You let him in?

NO is a really good word. Tell him to go away when he comes, if he won't, tell him "You are under some impression this is open for discussion? We ain't talking about this" And dial 911 on his ass.

He'll get the point.

I had meant to do my new blog, and got the pictures there, but I don't have the mind for words tonight. I will write it with tea in the morning.

I am already asleep.

Lovely day tho.

Loved Serenity, really well done movie. Thought it wrapped things up nicely.

'Night.

At 22:44 Blogger Ticia said...

Night, Quiche!

I'm glad you liked Firefly and Serenity. They are special.

At 22:45 Blogger Ticia said...

Oh, and Emily, what Quiche said.

At 00:26 Blogger Na said...

Agreeing - Emily, go with your gut, and that any response will be seen as encouragement, so give none. I see no reason why you can't tell everyone AND ignore/delete/say no. Especially tell your mom, she can help reinforce that he not enter your home. Don't worry about offending anyone, either, if you are - stay safe. Nothing more important than that! {{Emily}}

At 03:57 Blogger louisa said...

Poppin' in to check on our LA Fiends, you OK Vampi?

(((Emily)))

Really hoping this week calms so I can get back to hanging out here, missing the chatter

At 08:34 Blogger EmilyLady said...

You Fiends are incredible. I can't even BEGIN to tell you how much the words of advice help and encourage me. Lorraine, what happened was more that the first couple of times, I said he could come in, and he way overstayed his welcome ... and from then on, he just came in without my asking. What a creep.

Siri, I guess maybe they were going to get back to us maybe this Thursday or Friday - I'm not sure. They don't have a cast list posted yet, and I haven't heard from them. If I don't hear back by this Thursday, or if they don't have a cast list posted by then, I'll give them a call and see what's up.

At 09:37 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

i'm still doing good. the fire is moving more north than south. it is threatening the mt wilson observatory, it's over 100 years old and has telescope that used to be the biggest in the world. also lots of communication towers up there.

it is ridiculously smokey here and hard to breathe outside. it smells like a big camp fire, but overwhelming and pervasive, no escape from it. i'm going to work, which is closer to downtown.
