Well, You Asked.....

Since we can't do Bees tonight, we'll do questions and some Bengal shots. Sound good? All taken with my most excellent photo skill tonight.

Coulple questions here: "How did you come to work for your Boss" "What is it like living and being in the house with him AFP and his daughter" and where do you live in relation to Birdchick and Boss, all in a row?"

I have been working for him for 17 years now, he needed someone to put his library on shelves, and I needed the work. I'd been playing music, and didn't want to do any "Just a Job" jobs anymore, so I decided to find something I really wanted, and work as I had to. Figured I would stay until it was done. It's not yet. And it's what I want to do.

Three years ago I got my own house, in a town near the Boss. We started thinking I needed some time where I wasn't "At work". I call it the Spooky House, as it looks a lot like Halloween. The Birdchick lives down in the Twin Cities, and comes out to do Birds and Bees as it seems right.

As far as being with Maddy. Joy and delight. Pure and simple. Being together with Boss and AFP is also a joy and delight. He is my Boss, and my friend, we work well together. We can even garden together. (That took a little time.) AFP is smart. And funny. And my friend too. I have never picked vegetables in the garden after dark with anyone except her.

Question: How did you get into Bengals, and how many do you live with?

AH, love this topic. I started reading about them on the internet, and they sounded amazing. I need to tell you everything you read about them on the internet is really a "Short Introduction" They are really active, very smart and need a lot of attention. And they can be weird. Truly weird. They will also get into your heart like no other cat, if you are a person who understands them.

I decided to buy a Bengal kitten from a breeder. Then quickly decided to get a second. Then I found out about Bengal Rescue, and how many needed homes.

Not on a larger percentage than regular cats, however. There are as many cat-cats in shelters, most of which won't take Bengals, because of the myths that surround them. They are NOT Leopards, wild animals or anything like.

First picture here is Mim, an F4 (Four Generations away from Asian Leopard Cat, considered domestic) The next is Venus, also F4. My first two.

I have three fosters, who I ended up keeping, as due to their history, we decided this was the best place for them. King Lear, F2, Queen Mab F4 and Magic F1, meaning he is half Asian Leopard Cat.

You do NOT want an early generation Bengal. It does work, and really well, but you need them from kittens, and you will need help understanding their needs. Someone who knows Bengals, works with a good breeder, and is prepared to make a LIFELONG commitment can handle them.

They bond. And hard. Magic went from home to home, got de-clawed on all four paws, and they had no clue what he needed and he ended up trusting no one. I've come a long way, but he will never be a pet. Lear and Mab had a student, who then moved out of the country. Lear will not be with anyone but me, so he stays.

Later gen ones? You will love them. Go for it. Most of the Bengals we take in to foster are lovely, no special needs and are great friends. And hours of entertainment. I call it Bengal TV.

Try Great Lakes Bengal Rescue
. Or rescue inn your area. Or donate to donate@greatlakesbengalrescue.com We need the help.

Ok, might have answered that enough..Next question.

(Mim on her Poop Wheel. I need to be able to slow it down, she gets going so fast, Poop comes out of her. Might be over-sharing here. Many Bengals will run on wheels. They also love water, oddly enough.)

Question: How can you wear your hair in two ponytails and look good? I would never be able to in a million years!

And why not? Looking good is an attitude. Has everything to do with how you feel. Feel good, you look good. Doesn't matter what size you are, or what you wear, or your hair. All attitude. Trust me on this.

(Magic, F1, hopping back into his room from his Scream Porch)

Question: Is it hard separating Boss's personal and professional lives in your assistant duties?

Most PA's don't. Every Boss and Assistant work out their own arrangement with what works best for them. But mostly I would say you are involved in all of it. It's 24/7. You learn quickly to be silent, you don't talk about it. If I mention something, you can be very sure Boss has already mentioned it.

(Magic again, doing his aerobics)

Question: How do you juggle being an Assistant, tending Bees, playing in a band, keeping Benglas, and having a life?"

No idea. It works tho.

Question: "Any tips on dealing with celebrities?"

Be respectful. If you see them at dinner or out and about, a smile and nod is ok. Going up to their table or stopping them is not. When they are "On stage" they are working. When they are eating or getting luggage, they are not. Trust me, they love you, all of you. But they need normal time. Like we all do.

This is getting WAY too long! I want to talk about tending bees (tomorrow!) and music (LOTS of music queries, will do a blog later in the week, needs it's own space.) and "What's on your bookshelf" (ah, Books!) but I think I'll stop now, if anyone is still reading my novel at this point.

Send questions as you think of them, this is much fun!

My sincere apologies to the nice people in Brazil waiting so patiently for their interview. I know you are sitting there saying "But we SENT you questions!" Yes, you did, you will have answers in a couple days, my dears, almost done. (GREAT questions, I'd never thought of half that stuff!)

(Lear and Mab on the stairs)

Love and Questions,
Lorraine

Interesting, thanks for sharing those. And of course, Bengal photos are always welcome.

Evening in, writing, blogging, doing stuff for the string store. But most excellent salsa for dinner made from fresh CSA produce. Not bad, really.

Except for what I'm assuming was a wad of dogfur in my water glass, now stuck in the back of my throat. Blech.

I always liked the Magic stories. Bengals are cool, which I didn't know and probably never would have if it weren't for you. Thanks for answering all the questions!

At 20:27 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Oh, and the thing I wanted to say, but was a little bit too modest to say, was you are so cool. But it's now said.

At 20:28 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Interesting stuff!!

And that's about as deep as my brain is going, although this week is hopefully going to be fewer work hours than last week. And I'm having a Day Of Pampering on Saturday.

Fabulous answers oh fabulous one, you.

I've not been able to post here much since ben's been out of school! I've been reading mostly though, i've missed quite a bit.

I think of you all a lot though and see some of you on twitter...that I can do from my phone w/out the munchkin saying "C'mon mommmmmmm!" like when i'm on the computer.

Trying to cherish this time with him since he starts kindergarten in 2 weeks and will be there all day, 5 days a week! Crazy! Can't believe he's old enough for that already!

Miss you all.

Trying to figure out when to fit off-season-disneyland-trip into school schedule. Promised it to ben but didn't want to do a summer trip, too crazy down there!

At 20:31 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Oh Ben. He's so precious. And I know, it's amazing when they grow up; and while I have not, of course, had kids of my own, I've had three brothers and one of them is nine years younger than I am - so I've watched him grow up ...

At 20:33 Blogger Jane said...

Fun questions and answers and no such thing as too many Bengal pictures.

Calvin is talking to his toys tonight and he only does that when he feels good so I feel good, too :-)

At 20:37 Blogger dabbler said...

Wonderful Bengla pictures as always! And great to hear your voice again, Fablo! Missed you.

At 20:39 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

Fun post! Thanks so much for sharing.

Those are great pics of the kitties. They have so much personality. That wheel is insane! I might have to get one for Oliver since he'd probably love it. We've got a contractor working on our leaky ceiling and it's sent Oliver into a tizzy and he's pooping everywhere. Maybe the wheel better wait.

I'm so behind on everything! Did you end up getting all of the bees you were expecting. My faulty memory is telling me that some of the bees were missing at one point. Man, I really should remember this, but stress has wiped out my memory. If I don't write a thing down, I forget it almost as soon as it pops into my mind.

At 20:47 Blogger vampi said...

that was a good round up of questions. very fun to read. Love the bengal pictures.

At 20:49 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

I think I'm probably not the only person who could ready a 50 page equivalent blog post by you about just about anything. (More bengals please! I need my kitty fix!) But, I know how much time and energy that would take.

Sometimes I wish I could get a poop wheel for my cats, but Kitty would just glare at me like I was a monster, and Serious Black has hind quarter and nerve issues, so I think a wheel would be a disaster waiting to happen. He's my special needs kitty.

At 20:50 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Thanks you guys! I feel so loved!

Erin, bees are tomorrow! And I will answer your e-mail too, and take care of it.

I reached new culinary heights for dinner tonight: Can of cream of celery soup.

At 20:51 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I'm always happy to talk me some Bengal, no worries there!

Poop Wheels are REALLY expensive, and not all cats will use them, Venus won't. Just needs to be slower. And, er, cleaned off.

I love the kitty update! And I'm glad Calvin is doing well.

Indeed, Lorraine, you are loved.

P.S., Quiche - I do have 2 skulls left over. Did you really want them for your hot tub, or shall I do with them what I will?

At 21:34 Blogger Jess said...

All right! Poopwheel! \o/

Those are some happy bengals. I love that penultimate shot. Is that Mim or Mab? I was going with MIm, but now I'm having doubts.

Bed now. Have to get up at 3:00 am to go on An Adventure. Shall be peeking in from time to time, though. Also dragging Marjorie off for a beer at some point, as it happens.

At 21:38 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Wait till Miss Kitty gets off the Jonas tour, then we will have some photos!!!

(Or Nathilie comes back. That might take some time)

Siri, not sure, it's getting to be winter, you might best do something cool with them

Great read, that.

Organizing books is kind of my idea of a dream job too. Except right now it's mostly annoying manager type stuff. Pppbbttt! I'll have to get my organizational kicks with my own collection, with which I am woefully behind.

Looking forward to the music post!

And so to bed. Can I manage to get up early enough for a FIT breakfast three days in a row? Can I walk home for the second time this week? Tomorrow will tell...

At 22:03 Blogger ariandalen said...

Yes, OSS. Yes, you can!

At 22:04 Blogger Beez said...

Lovely post, and never too much Bengally goodness.

This just cracked me up though-

"But they need normal time. Like we all do.' followed immediately by The Look On That Face.

I had to keep going back to it and laughing some more. The juxtaposition is priceless!

At 22:25 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Beez, you crack me up, hadn't caught that! Yup, my normal time. With that!

Go OSS, you can! I've started working out more and eating better in the last few weeks. Darned if it doesn't work, and I feel so much better.

At 22:26 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Determined that I'll start back on an exercise routine when ben's in school!

You are inspiring :)

At 22:28 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

Q, thanks so much. :-)

I'm looking forward to the Bee details.

At 22:42 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Must sleep. I'll most likely be dreaming, of course, of poopwheels and pigtails. Whee.

At 22:52 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

Sometimes I feel sorry for Serious Black, because I get the feeling he wants to run around but can't. When he tries to jump or run, sometimes his back legs give out and he topples over. Nothing can be done. :( Otherwise, I think he lives a pretty good life, even though he has to share a house with two bossy ladies.

At 23:00 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Well, it will be inspiring once I get there, which takes time. Saw an ad for a cream that promised to melt my fat away with no working out. Nearly ordered, then thought it MIGHT be a scam.

Eat less, move more. Feel better.

I think Serious Black is very lucky to have you. I am sure you do toys he doesn't have to move much with. Try a roll of paper towels. Cats love them. Put catnip on them.

You can use the shredded stuff for something. Uh, not sure what. Buy cheap towels.

At 23:14 Anonymous kali_licious said...

I don't see any "over Bengaling" here:)
That's a really lovely shot of Lear!

I wonder if you could put an extra washer or something in between the fulcrum/post and the poopwheel to slow it down, or maybe tighten it in some way? Just an idle thought. Anything to avoid more poop!

Hopefully sunshine tomorrow and bees.

I'm trying to fall asleep early because tomorrow's my first day of college. Nervous and excited, and a little leery of being, well, nearly 40 and dodging all those teenagers.

At 23:20 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

Both him and Kitty love to attack my afghan, but Kitty definitely goes into super-attack-laser-eye-mode a lot more than he does about the whole thing. I think I play with them enough that it keeps them from attacking me all that much when I'm trying to sleep under the afghan. He was wrapped up in it in the previous glamour shot from a previous comment on a previous post. (Previous previous previous!) It's awesome, because my mom made it with her love and bitching about how it was a gigantic blanket she was crocheting with too many colors of yarn.

And, I hope you enjoy Firefly. Twitter seems to be dead atm. Firefly's probably my all time favorite series. It's full of awesomeness.

I, for one, enjoy Poop Wheel stories and do not consider them oversharing. I've even thought of getting a Poop Wheel for my Maine Coon Cat, but then thought better of it (this might be oversharing, but poop and a big fuzzy butt and tail? not so good).

Morning!

Lear tried to wake me for breakfast at 6 this morning, by hopping on the bed and head butting me.

Not sure I enjoy this progress he makes.

Working thru morning e-mail and having that first and best cup of tea.

Enjoy Firefly! It is one of our favorites around here.

At 10:10 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

The thing with Firefly is, I've tried with the pilot several times and it's like, oh, nice, battle. More battle.

Hans, and bandmate Dr Paul, say I need to watch it WITH people. Hans has a Plan and we are going to watch it tonight.

Very exciting day. Bees with Birdchick. And Firely.

At 10:17 Blogger Wendy Withers said...

I tried the paper towel roll trick with Serious Black. It made him very happy- he was delirious with joy at being able to rub the paper towel roll. Now he's very cuddly and purrful.

At 10:25 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I say again, Serious Black is a very lucky kitty. And you can still use the shreds. They are just more shredded.

At 10:50 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

Haha, there were no shreds. He just kept jumping up to rub it, like he was saying "Man, I love this paper towel roll. This is the most awesome paper towel roll in the world, and it's my friend."

Now he's sitting next to me on the bed, purring, pawing the afghan of doom, and staring creepily at me.

At 11:04 Blogger Hellie said...

Wendy, for one moment there I thought you meant an afghan hound (poor doggy getting bullied by the kitties!)

Great blog & Lovely photos - we will all have to think of lots more insightful questions!

Don't think I've ever seen Firefly. We are catching up with Being Human, show about werewolf and ghost that live with a (decidedly yummy looking) vampire. It's great, and spookier than I expected!

At 12:06 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

RE: Firefly
It took me 3 episodes to fall in love with the show.

RE: Headbutting Kitties
Is it wrong that I'm laughing? I love it!
Oliver sticks out his paw, extends one nail, and touches my head gently - if I'm not awake by 4:00 am.

Hellie, I've been watching Being Human and enjoying it since they seem to be doing a good job with developing the characters. I love British TV.

Oh, for those of you into vampires, you gotta watch this video. Buffy vs. Edward Cullen The last 10 seconds makes the videos. Enjoy!

I'm going to have to start paying Q rent for the amount of blog space I'm taking up lately. Sorry. :-/

At 12:55 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Erin, no worries! everyone should post as much as they want. We LIKE that here! Not sure I like this new bond with Lear tho...That cat could take me OUT if he chose to. He must not learn this...

A series about a werewolf and a ghost living with a Vampire???? From British TV? Sign me UP! Where do I see this?

Bill Nighy? In Boss's film?? I knew they knew eachother (And trust me I am SO getting him on the phone and talking to Viktor!) But I need to know ...

HOW do you guys find these things OUT?

You know more about what my Boss does than I do...

Emily...Of course it is. Would have guessed. Eventually.

Flying by, fiends--disastrously long work days rights now.

At 12:59 Blogger spacedlaw said...

That is a GREAT progress for Lear. i can see it is a cause for concern but still...

I am so jealous, Marjorie. I wish I could fly and join you guys (still two weeks to go before I - hopefully - get the green light. Just in time for my first mission. Meh.).

At 13:03 Blogger ariandalen said...

"Being Human" is currently on BBCAmerica, Ms. Fabulous. Saturday nights, 7-8 PM repeat from previous week and 8-9:15 PM "new" episode. You might check their website for previous episodes, or Hulu. It's pretty good. Female ghost who died in the house that male werewolf and male vampire rent. Mere humans can't really see the ghost, especially her ex-fiance who owns the house.

At 13:27 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Just woke up. Woke up earlier with a headache, so I stayed home. I've found that when I wake up with them, meds don't do much, so might as well keep it at home.

Lots of exciting activity in the Fiendom, I see.

Lucky Marjorie, Jess, and Mr. Jess (have a wonderful time together). Little Fiends starting school. EmilyLady possibly becoming a Hobbit. Happy cats loving/shredding new toys. And I can't remember what all.

Lorraine, I'm sure you will like Firefly better in company. Like most of Whedon at his best, the highlight of the show is the dialogue. That's more fun listening to with others, especially others with a similar sense of humor.

Bill Nighy in Boss's film?! Woot! Love his stuff. Anyone else seen The Girl in the Cafe? Wonderful. Not to mention all the roles mentioned earlier.

Oh, and a cream just wouldn't be nearly as inspiring. It was your posts on FIT that got me to delurk, after all.

Okay, breakfast now. Then possibly back to bed.

At 13:57 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Uh-oh. Humiliated to be the only Fiend who has to look up Bill Nighly on IMDB. So. Excuse me while I do that. Maybe I know him from somewhere ...

...

WHOA, he'll be in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?

Oh, okay. Hitchhiker's Guide. So I DO know him ...

Gah. Every Wednesday I have a deadline for writing for a website. Every week, I miss my deadline, even with the best of intentions.

I think it's because I don't get paid for the writing. :( I think I volunteer for too much. Plus, it takes out of novel rewrite time.

At 14:10 Blogger Wendy Withers said...

This is totally unrelated to anything, but I think it's funny. My friend Arleen works for the newspaper I freelance for, and I haven't been able to get in touch with her for a couple of days, but I've been reading an awesome book I want to review, and I need the info for the books editor. Here's an email I just sent her:

Dear Arleen Spenceley,

I am a freelance journalist based out of Tampa, Florida, and I understand that you are an editorial assistant at the St. Petersburg Times. I am currently reading a great new book by Kim Chernin about the Israeli- Palestinian conflict. I think it would be perfect for the book review section of your paper. However, I do not know who the books editor is, and I'm too lazy to find this information out myself.

Seeing as you are an EA and I am but a lowly freelance writer, I was hoping you could find out who that is and maybe put in a good word for me. As a freelancer, I make very little money; however, I am the favourite kitten of the late president of Nigeria. As you know my late master was very very rich man and he left me all his tuna. But, as kitten, I not allowed to have fridge of my own. If you give me the contact info for the books editor and send my praises their way, I give you 20% (TWENTY AMERICAN PER CENTS) of each fish - including heads.

Please be writing back soon. Weather hot and there are many bad cats looking with the eyes at my fishes.

Regards,

Wendy Withers

EmilyLady, I love IMDB! I knew Bill Nighly was Viktor (I just did an Underworld marathon, yeah!), but you inspired me to see what else he's done.

What an amazingly long and wonderful career! I've seen many of his movies and never realized that was "him" in all of those roles. Now THAT's the mark of a talented actor.

I heart Bill Nighly!

Nathalie, I wish you could join us, too. We are going to a beer festival.

I love 'Being Human' - I believe that we're about to get a 2nd season - they're re-running S1 here.

Anyone watching 'Moonlight'? (Vampire private eye - seems like 'Angel' but with better cheeckbones and less humour). But if you were a Vampire, why would you chose to live somewhere sunny, and drive a convertable?

At 14:27 Blogger vampi said...

never heard of moonlight, but i do watch being human. i quite like it. being human is pretty well written.

One of the networks is going to have a show called vampire diaries this fall, i don't have a good feeling about this. i think it's a quick scramble to capitalize on the twilight crowd. the vampire diary billboards and buses around town make it seem like melrose place meets twilight.

i kind of liked it when i was the weird little gothlet who likes vampires and everyone thought i was weird. now vampires are mainstream and i am no longer a unique little black flower:(

At 14:40 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

Marjorie. Yes, Being Human got the green light for a second season. It was announced a couple of weeks ago. :-)

I'm not sure if the full season is on Hulu or not, but you can watch it on YouTube. I don't want to give anything away, but the story arc for the season really builds well and the climax is great.

At 15:10 Blogger Marjorie said...

Erin, it is good. I watched it first time around and it is sufficiently good that I'm watching the re-runs, too. (also, it's set in Bristol so I get to play spot-the-location, which is always fun)

At 15:11 Blogger ariandalen said...

The full season of "Being Human" won't be on Hulu, at least not as long as there are first run eps for BBCAmerica. You still might be able to catch up if BBCAmerica doesn't have the earlier eps on their website.

"Moonlight" was on CBS in the USA 2007-2008. There is only the one season. Alex O'Loughlin will be starring in a medical drama, "Three Rivers," this fall in the USA. There are lots of similarities to "Forever Knight," but differences, too. Mick St. John is about the "youngest" vampire protagonist on television, or movies.

"The Vampire Diaries," on the CW this fall, is from a series of books written/published around 15-20 years ago. Well before "Twilight." Having said that, yeah, the CW is jumping on the "Twilight" bandwagon. They have scheduled "The Vampire Diaries" on the same night as "Supernatural," though right now I can't remember whether it's before or after "Supernatural." That would be on Thursday nights.

I have watched far too much television in my life. ::sigh::

ariandalen, lol. i watch a lot of tv onthe weekends while boy sleeps. mostly bbca or how they make stuff/build stuff shows. there is a small bus depot in front of my apartment building, so every morning i see the buses with the vampire diaries stuff, so my opinion is not based on anything about the show other than the creepy, slutty ads.

also smoke! view of smoke from angeles forest fire taken from my office last night
