Anyone ELSE Want To Go To The Vet Today?

Cabel the Dog needs to go and see a Neurologist at the U of M. I've been noticing he kind of walks funny sometimes, or turns his paw around, or kind of lurches when he walks. Today he seemed to be actually limping, so I took him to the vet, and there is nothig broken, but they noticed the Funky Walking too, so off he goes to the U of M.

Doggie Health Insurance was the BEST $400 ever spent.

This is him in his Super Hero Cape, which he wears from October thru Thanksgiving. We live in the country and there are hunters everywhere. Best to be safe, as he will go running off into the woods. You can also see a fine example of the amount of hair one can brush off him daily. When I read "German Shepards For Dummies" (A real book, people) they said "German Shepards only shed 365 days a year."

They also said that this was a breed you did not want if you didn't have at least an hour a day to walk them, and that ideally what one should do was to buy 20 acres of land and fence it, and let them spend the day patrolling the perimeter.

Very true. They do not get tired. His Walker can vouch for that. (Dogs a rock Star, OF COURSE he has a Walker)

Madame Mim is also at the vet today. She has been doing some odd peeing all over, as in on the counter when I make her food, on the curtains, by certain shelves, on the dryer when I take clothes out and today, ON ME. She doesn't squat, or spray, just sort of lets loose a stream. Always in front of me

She and Venus share 4 litter boxes, and I clean them every day, she's always been happy with them. I am hoping it is medical and not behavioral. Sick we can fix. Mentally Troubled, a bit trickier.

The silver you see is the ceiling. She seems to like to be way up there. On top of Halloween Town. She knows she looks good.

My Boss comes home tomorrow! Or today if you are reading this on Thursday. This makes me very happy. So many new things to show him. His library, newly put back in order after some time in chaos. Woodsman Hans' pond which is not YET a pond, more like a pre-pond. (I wish the Skid-steer thing was still here so I could impress him with my driving ability.) And the Garden, which due to the fact that we have had some seriously weird weather this summer, is jut now starting to come into its Garden Glory.

All good. Except the bit about the Vets. That's not good.

Love, Vets and Bosses,
Lorraine

I swear I will NEVER forget when I walked away from Cabal and looked down and went, "WHOA." I was coated. Caked. Covered. Buried. And all I could do was pray to Fod that my dinner partner for that night was not allergic to dogs.

Poor guy really needed Boss, since apparently his previous owner did not care for him well. I hope whatever it is for him and for Mim is easily fixed.

At 18:18 Blogger Phiala said...

I hope that all the critters are well, and that Boss comes home safely and is pleased with all the new things.

I think our lynx point Siamese mix feline mutt must be part German Shepherd (seriously... coarse outer coat, dense undercoat, shaggy britches).

And, yes, I am with you on hoping Mim has a physical condition that is easily treated and maintained with a bit of cranberry in the diet.
We had a pee-kitty for whom it was territorial/behavioral. Litter box had to be pristine or she'd find somewhere else to go. Couldn't leave so much as a newspaper or bath mat on the floor.

At 18:20 Blogger Dragonsally said...

I so hope Mim has something easily treatable like a urinary infection...except...how is she with pills?

Poor Cabal. I hope he is easily fixed too. Maybe he needs some chiropractic treatment?

And I am in ceiling lust!

I think we will treasure a full night of sleeping in a comfortable bed on Tuesday night.

Emily, your poem was extremely lovely. Thank you so much for sharing with us! I think you're getting such a positive response because the sentiments are universal.

Q-- good luck with the peeing problem. I know first hand how frustrating those can be. (And also how un-fun it is to wake up because you're being peed on. Ugh.)

Sally, best of luck with Shiraz. **hugs**

Do Boss and Super Dog get to greet each other before Super Dog goes off to be checked over?
I am crossing my fingers that there is a problem that Mim is trying to tell you about, that is purely physical.

EmilyLady- Carry over from last post, but you should know, I'd be proud to put my name on that. Personal or no, it's also pretty universal.

Hope no more bad befalls any other four-legged fiends. Or two-legged.

Speaking of which, given Boss's usual choice of wardrobe, does he have his own cape to match Rockstar Dog's? He *should.*

At 20:41 Blogger Siri said...

Oh, and just for the record, I didn't go to the vet today.

Got my tile today. It goes in tomorrow.

Had to abandon my green marble tile plan, simply too $$. Ordering and shipping was WAY pricy, and if I bought an entire box localy it was over $200, which seemed silly as I don't need much, just for around the bathtub.

Ended up with Strange Stone, pretty cool. It was extra at the tile shop from something and cost me $10 for all of it.

Pretty cool.

Now I have to pick paint. Or rather Boss does. Man has remarkable colour sense.

At 21:06 Blogger Dragonsally said...

That's kind of ironic, a man with great colour sense wears black all the time.

At 21:06 Blogger Kitty Cat said...

Q, look at you and your extra "u"s.

it MUST be vet week. I had to haul the Batman in, and he hasn't a cool orange cape, only the invisible cloak of hatred for riding the car. He got poked and prodded, but when the blood panel came back they said...hmmm! totally normal. He was just lonely for his people.
Kylie on the other hand is doing just great. She loves to flop down next to almost any human and "hold hands". cannot thank you enough for this one, Q. Do sincerely hope that your diagnosis on both kids, comes swiftly and not too crushingly expensively...ouch.

so---my friend may get on the Gaga tour, we will make something happen. she is a strange bird, that one! which is why you like her..

scritches to all the furred ones, to Shiraz, Batman, Cabal, Mim. Oh, critters.

safe travels to those traveling.

i am having a ludicrous week. i am unexpectedly about to become gainfully employed. i wasn't looking at all, just got a call Monday, out of the blue, with a job offer. and a parent at the monsters' school, whose two monsters are in the same classes as mine, just started a leave of absence from her regular job and is planning to start an in-home care thingie. it feels like Opportunity is not so much knocking as kicking down the door. absolutely binkers.

my head is all spinny. need to go back and read Em's poem and do some catch-up reading...

At 22:25 Blogger Fluffy said...

Congrats on the job offer, Na.

Looks like things are shaking out on my end. There was a sudden chance of love on the horizon, which is awesome, but messes with my current plans to adopt a child from foster care (no major changes for a while after they become mine). That chance has gone back under the horizon, right after I decided to go for it regardless of the inherent problems. Ah well. Good test of being able to remain open to what life throws at me.

At 22:48 Blogger Beez said...

That poem is wonderful Miss Em.

Happy Birthday too.

*hugs* to all the furry ones and their humans. May it all come out as well as it possibly can.

I'm guessing that if it's buckshot they'll determine if the pellets are made of non-magnetic metal. A lot of them won't react to the magnetic field and would be okay in an MRI, or they may do a CAT scan and an electromyogram test for the neurological symptoms.

At 23:08 Blogger Uisge said...

Emily - WONDERFUL POEM! Really love the last line. Beautiful.

Sally - So sorry to hear about Shiraz.

Any news on the animools? Hoping Cabal and Mim are feeling better/diagnosed. Air kisses (rather than hugs) to Venus who is missing Miss Madame Mim.

At 23:39 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

Em: I used to not want my name on some of my best work, either, because it was too personal. Also, because I wanted to be a journalist and wrote about a lot of controversial things. One of my college prof's, who used to be the publisher of The Tampa Trib and editor at many prestigious newspapers said I should be proud of what I'd done, because a genius piece of work is a genius piece of work, and people will recognize it even if it is personal, etc. I think the same applies to what you wrote. Just something to think about.

Anyone have advice on what to do when one cat keeps randomly trying to eat the other? Serious Black keeps walking up to Kitty and randomly trying to eat her ears and her tail. Not like in a horror movie, but more like he just saunters up, notices she has appendages, and decides they might be good to eat.

Morning all!

No pet news yet today. Cabel won't be going in until the 5th October. It's not that urgent, and as he has to stay overnight, I didn't want him gone 2 days while Boss was home. We'll go while he is in Ohio.

Not sure the maybe buckshot is related to what's going on, just an interesting side.

Wendy, it's a dominance thing. Venus chomps on Mim. Sometimes one of them will sit on the other. I wouldn't worry.

I'm waiting for Mr Tile to come so I can give him the new tiles. I may have my bathroom back soon!

Venus is downright cuddly this morning.

I need more tea.

Hi Rhonda, and welcome!

I hope so too. I'll find out about Mim today. I really hope it is something we can treat. If she is simply unhappy, it will be more difficult.

I know she really wants to be outside, something that isn't possible. I can take her for more walks, she loves leash walks, but with winter coming on, it will be harder.

At 11:10 Blogger fairbetty said...

My kitty (Bangs) had a peeing problem and it ended up as crystals in his urine... switched to low magnesium food and he is fine now. Hope for an easy fix for Mim

At 11:31 Blogger Na said...

Q, though you have the screamed porches, have you thought of building a bigger outdoor enclosure for Mim? Some friends here built one, it's even connected so their cats can go in and out a window to the house, and they do, even in winter some.

Happy Firbday to Our Emily!

Thanks fiends for congrats! The job really is happening. I attended the press' editorial committee meeting yesterday, and afterwards met with the director and a few other folks to talk about when I can start (they want me last week, they get me next week), pay, etc., and this morning I think I may have solved the after-school sitch for the dragonette, and talked with my guy who of course is out of town at the mo', but I think we've figured out how I can really take this job when it goes to a longterm thing. Totally nuts.

Aaaaaaaand tonight the neighborgs are PACKING THEIR MOVING VAN!!!! Tomorrow they move! \o/

Read this lovely poem just now and thought of fiends.

After you
by Ruth Goring

Now that you are gone, I wipe
mango juice from my table,
fold up the crinkled stories

Three potatoes on the windowsill
begin to send out roots
from their sleeping eyes

I dream that I begin to travel
but the moon stops me, flicking
its bright coins against my mirror

Poems litter the path
where we walked, and all my clothes
are stained with your laughter

Granted, everything is a moving target in these days of staff cutbacks and trying to make things work with a smaller staff (and desperately hoping it doesn't get any smaller). But how many times will have to take them back to the drawing board?

Just back from three days camping with the seventh graders (my students) and catching up on things fiendish. My 17 yr old dog (shepherd /husky) just got back from the vet. He's lost over 10% of his body weight so we need to increase his food. FabLo, last year he had a leaning (tripping falling, too) issue that was related to a vestibular problem. I thought that he'd had a stroke but it was all inner-ear. Hoping that Cabel's issues are easily solved. Sorry that Mme Mim's issues seem to be behavioral. So much harder to fix than a kitty UTI. Good luck all -
