Cabel Does The Renn Fest....

Cabel and I had a right fine time at the Renn Fest today. I was excited because I got to hang with BFF (hey, always wanted to use that in a sentence) Best Stemple, and excited to see old friends that I hadn't seen in yonks.

Cabel was excited because he got to go somewhere in the car, and hey, whatever works for him.

Sat it with bad boys Bedlam, my very first band ever. They insist it is still my band, and whatever I say goes. Didn't bring my violin but of course, multi talented them, they had a spare for me. I love those guys. Had a fine time playing with them, and got into all the long time fans being excited I was there again.

Which lasted a very brief moment. Before Cabel stole the show from me. It was enough that we couldn't walk two steps without someone commenting, asking about, wanting to pet or going gaga over him, but then people (not ones I knew) started looking at him, stopping, looking at me, then saying "OMG! Is that HIM?????" I knew it was so not about me any more.

Dog is a rock star in his own right. He has his own fans. Obviously, this is very wearing on him, and we had to frequently nip backstage for breaks. It was simply all too much. He did handle the attention like a pro, and drank like a fish. Only, however, from water that had not been touched by any other dog. This is clearly a dog with a rider in his contract.

After hours I had the idea we might go on home, long day, very hot, I had been playing some music, rocking and such, but clearly Cabel had other ideas. He had hooked up with some Babes, and was up for some after hours tent action. Into tent and onto the bed with not one, but two of them. Even doing the old "I can make my eyes two different colours I am so cool" trick.

Hmphh.

Dog needs an entourage, I am thinking. Too much for little old me.

I finally pried him away and chauffeured him home, after pouring him into the car (he slept all the way, the sod)

Thinking we both had a pretty fine day.

Love and Renn Fest,
Lorraine

Well, you've met him Ticia, so it should not come as a surprise. The guy is a total heart throb.

At 02:08 Blogger Dragonsally said...

You should be employing him as a babe magnet more often, methinks.

He deserves his own Facebook page, some kind Fiend should get on to that!

Cabal rocks, but Betsy is SUCH a totally hot MILF. Well...um..in the archetypal, as opposed to me personally sense. So Adam can put down that cutlass.....

Nice to see you and the boys throwin' it down at Fest. Wish I'd been there to listen and dance (and perhaps have a wee nip, as I am still want to do)

You're right, Nat. I have experienced the Cabal Magnetism up close and personal. He made my heart go pitter-pat.

He does need his own FaceBook page, Sally. *grin*

if ever there was a Rockstar Dog, Cabal is it.

Renn Fest post means I've been here a year!! (well, a year since my de-lurking anyway) Happy Fiendday to me :) I love being part of this community, makes my heart all glow-y to think of what a difference you've made to me these past twelve months. [sighs in happy contentment]

Cabal is such a star, certainly glows like one, I love his ears perked up in the third pic. Truly magical to see his transformation from when he was first found, yet another furry friend miracle. Good to see him doing you proud, Empress Q.

It's a beautiful sunny morning here in Dublin town and I'm off to make the most of this sky-blue sky. Enjoy your Sundays wonderful fiends!!

Good morning, Louisa!
Here the weather is so so, a little on the cool side (20C, mind).
Baked scones, had tea and finished reading my present book. Life is mellow.

At 06:01 Blogger Marjorie said...

Love the idea of Cabal with his own entourage! He does have that whole 'animal magnetism' thig going for him, doesn't he?

My new credit card arrived so have been able to send my mite for the bengals..

'tis a lovely sunny day here, too.

At 07:24 Blogger Frounette said...

Ah, Cabal. It's the ears that do it!
Looks like a really good day.

At 07:35 Blogger Lioness said...

Well, it is good to have someone to take all the pressure off you having to be "on" all the time, I figure. Cabal is doing you a favour!
Otherwise, everyone would be crowding around you, saying "OMG, Is it You?!"

At 07:51 Blogger Phiala said...

Cabal is a sweetie. I love the pic with the ears. But it sounds like you had a fine day as well.

Hey Jess, I finally mulched yesterday, with the mulch I've had since spring 2008.

At 08:19 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Yeah, I think you should use him for a babe magnet, Q!

That's what you get for shuttling around a major celebrity. I'm surprised it wasn't more like one of those famous scenes of the Beatles running around with crowds of screaming fans running after them.

Okay - song stuck in my head, thank you lovely L. Since it made it into my brain that your band is named Bedlam all I can hear in my head is Mad Tom of Bedlam!
"For to see Mad Tom of Bedlam,
Ten thousand miles I've traveled."
I'll have to listen to it to get it unstuck!

Good morning Fiends!

I'm off to play with friends in San Francisco today!

If you're San Francisco today too, come by Borderlands Books at 3:00pm for a Mark Van Name book reading. It would be awesome if some Fiend Meetings/ Sightings occured. :)

Tea. Sleepy. Ended up staying up WAY to late.

Tom of Bedlam is where we got the name, Kate, love that song!

More tea. Then I can can talk properly. Just spoke to Boss who said he loved the Cabel pics and thought it was pretty funny he stole the show from me.

At 11:07 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Morning Kitty! Perhaps you you could tour manage for him?

At 11:55 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I would say more but I am only here to let you Fiends know it looks like I am in quite possibly gigantic trouble. My blood sugar is through the roof, as are my ketonic levels, and ER seems it might be on the horizon. Cross your fingers for me? Oh yeah, we had a festival in RI today too, Lorraine. Lots and lots of fun. Reminded me of being at Charlie's because they had pirate music playing (except for when Jack played with his band. Mostly Green Day and Beatles).

At 11:59 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Eeeeks. I hope you will be all right, Emily. In doubt, ER is always the best solution.

At 12:01 Blogger dabbler said...

Oh dear, Emily...loving and healing thoughts heading your direction....

At 12:22 Blogger Marjorie said...

Very sorry to hear that, Emily. Hope you feel better very soon, and I'm with Nathalie - better safe than sorry - it does sound as though a trip to the ER would be in order.

*Hugs*

At 12:56 Blogger Jess said...

What they said! Take good care of yourself, Emily. Hope you feel better soon.

Cabal is a ROCK DOG. Like a "Rock God," but spelt differently.

There's a picture of Cabal floating around out there with me yawning in the background, quite by accident I'll have you know. (That was one of Chantrelle's. Thanks for catching that moment. Really. ;P) I am glad that this post sets the record straight: Cabal's presence does not induce lethargy in ladies.

Sad to report that Mr. Jess Was only partly successful in his quest to impersonate Ely Cathedral as seen on that Pink Floyd album, because cameras weren't allowed anywhere but the lobby. Not sure I was really allowed to take the one I did, even though I was in the lobby. Oops, too late.

Phiala, You're a better woman than I. I'm now waiting till everything starts to die back next month, so it's easier.

At 13:18 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Oh Emily, do take care of yourself. If you think the ER is necessary, hie thee there! Healing thoughts for you.

What I saw of Cabal, he's got the Strong Silent Type down. And an air of, it's okay, you can adore me, I'll just sit back and ignore you. Irresistible. But it looks like you got plenty of well-deserved appreciation too, Lorraine. An possibly a laying on of hands (what was that about?).

Happy Fiendday Louisa! This is such an amazing group of folks, isn't it? I can't believe the difference you have all made in my life. Thank you so much.

At 13:39 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Actually, he is a big softy who loves his cuddles. And knows how to get them too.

At 14:21 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Oh and in case some of you with some of Sunday still left open want to try their hands at Appel Geback, I have posted the recipe over at my Live Journal.

In other news, I think there might be a football match on the telly (either that or my neighbours are murdering each others) and I seem to be flavour of the month for nano publishers (second anthology participation received this week!)
Oh, and I was also interviewed on which Lovecraftian Monster would I rather be...
Any guess?

At 15:08 Blogger EmilyLady said...

ER was not in order. We got things fixed. Sort of. Out of the danger zone, anyway. I'm exhausted at this point.

Anyway. I like Cabal. Fun and sweet. There should be more doggies like him.

Glad things are under control, Emily, and you did not have to go to hospital.

Any idea what caused it?

Margo - tell Dan to get to work on that teleportation device, so you can be in both almost simultaniously.

Emily - good for you. Deep cleansing breaths.

At 15:53 Blogger Marjorie said...

Do they have the equivalent of Insulin-pimp engineers, to check it's working properly? You seem to have been having a lot of trouble recently.

Siri, I think I would need the urgent clone, too, as I would need to be in 2 places completely simultaneaously. It may be easier to try to book a day off work & see whether I can get to the London show on the Monday night.

At 16:21 Blogger Siri said...

There you go, Marjorie - you probably spend too much time doing things like working and sleeping rather than playing, anyway.

I'm trying to work in 2 major home repairs, a family visiting me (2 adults/2 kids under 4) and a weekend road trip, all in the 1st two weeks of October. Good luck to me.

At 16:40 Blogger dabbler said...

So there I was, last night, sitting on hay bales under a pole barn, in a dark field, bundled up against the 50ish weather. And listening to Taiko drummers and then to Paul Winter's soprano saxophone, over the recordings of animals (whales, elk, wolves) and orchestral instruments.

Wonderful experiences. Really made me want to go and hang out in St John's Cathedral in NYC for the all night Solstice Celebration he hosts in December.

At 18:34 Anonymous Kate said...

Oh, thanks, Lysandwr - just when the earworm had taken a break -

Morning!

Just found out someone I knew and really liked died this morning while watching Good Morning America.

She was a policewomen I would talk to at the club, she took shifts there guarding weddings to earn extra money for her own. Hadn't seen her in a year, but we used to talk about our jobs.

She told me she could never do what I did, getting on stage in front of people.

I pointed out that she was a cop, and no one called her to say everything was great, she didn't stop people and say "Hey, your driving is most excellent."

She died of some rare complications from childbirth.

I'll miss her. Really liked her.

Bizzare hearing on the TV too. I mean, I see people I know on the news and tc all the time, but this was weird.

At 08:50 Blogger Phiala said...

Great interview! And very wise advice at the end there too. I noticed that Oysterband are playing in Manchester soon, I guess you'd recommend going to see them?

I'm very sorry to hear about your friend too, that's so sad.

At 12:22 Blogger Marjorie said...

So sorry to hear about your friend, Quiche, and that you found out in such a way. Did her baby make it?

On a happier note, I love your interview (and by the way *I* know what the Giant 6' Pig Pink was all about. I may even have pictures.)

At 12:49 Blogger Jess said...

Tell us of this Pig, Marjorie.

At 13:05 Blogger Marjorie said...

What, this pig, you mean, Jess?

At 13:13 Blogger Arwenn said...

In the words of our spider friend Charlotte, "Some Pig"

At 13:16 Blogger Jess said...

That must indeed be the very Pig I mean. Was it signing as well?

At 13:36 Blogger Marjorie said...

No, it was too busy being the Overlord of Everything to sign. Also it's hands aren't really suited to signing.

It was at EasterCon last year - Boss was doing a reading of 'The Wolves in the Walls' (which of course features a pig) - I wasn't able to go to the reading because you had to be accompanied by a child to get in, and I didn't have time to buy or kidnap one, but I understand that there was also a make-your-own-pig-puppet thing going on just before the reading.
At some point, someone apparently decided that it would be an interesting challenge to see whether the pattern for the Pig-Puppets could be scaled up, and if so, how far....

The answer would seem to be 'quite a long way, actually' It was snuck in behind Boss while he was drawing Wolves (so all the kids could see it, and he couldn't)

The Giant Pink Pig had a very sucessful convention. It was crowned as ..well, overlord of everything during the closing ceremonies.

I heard rumours that Holly was going to keep it, but Boss wanted to ship it back as a surprise for Ms Maddy, but I guess it didn't survive the trip (It was built in about 3 hours, by teens who had no sewing experience, as far as I can make out :-))

So now you know.

You must now eat this blog-entry to prevent the information getting into the wrong hands.

At 13:43 Blogger spacedlaw said...

That is some mighty story!
Thanks for that.

Cabel looks like he had a fine time, but maybe not as fine a time as the Bedlam group.

Well, now I know the story of the pink pig. Glad THAT is cleared up. Boss would never tell me. I suspect he forgot and didn't want to admit he had no idea WHY we had a giant pink pig in the basement.
