The Dectruction So Far...

Here's some pictures of the current destruction! I had wanted a corner bath, which proved nightmare-like trying to fit it in, and build around it, so we have opted for a lovely oval. It has a nice little shelves for things when it is a shower, and I think will work right well.

I needed to pick tile for the bit around the tub today, a new thing for me. I didn't want to buy an entire box, so options were limited to remnants, which got to be kind of fun. They are certainly odd, and in no way go with the floor exactly, but I think it is going to be lovely. I think. I sent the Head Destroyer over to talk to Tile Lady and see if my evil plan would work. I guess I will find out soon. I like surprises. It ought to end up a little bit of magic rocks all around the tub. If it works.

The tub was a surprise, I just told him what I wanted, and a price, and it showed up. Now I need to figure out what to paint the room, there's the wainscoating, currently pink, and the rest is ugly wallpaper, which is going. I found out too I can have new sconce lights, which I get to pick tomorrow. Yet another bit of being grownup I have never experienced.

I am going to put the fountain from the big Scream Porch up there for Lear and Mab. Venus and Mim aren't into it, and winter is coming anyway. I am really excited here about this new bathroom. If you can't tell. Another new room for the Spooky House!

Here's the Clawfoot tub, now in the dinning room. Of course. One of the things I loved about this house was that it HAD an old Clawfoot tub. My love for it until I took my first bath in it. Not so fun. I think it will go much better in the dinning room. With a Skeleton in it. The wee bookcase needs to move tho. Somewhere.

Venus and Mim seem to like it. Or not. Hard to tell. I kept plants in it when it was upstairs, it being no good for bathing. I'd like to have a couple more Skeletons, dressed in evening wear, standing around, sort of watching the Bathing Skelly. I can see it. Liven up the dinning room right nicely, I believe.

I am liking the room. Lear and Mab and I sat there for a while tonight, thinking about it. There's a lot more ROOM in it now. It's going to feel good. Bathrooms ought to be places of relaxing and refuge, I believe. Lear and Mab will have a small pool to play in, the plants will go back, on the floor now instead of in the tub. Whatever colour it ends up with enhance the relax-ness of it. And my new lights will be perfect.

Pity they can't be candelabras, but one can't have everything.

Or can one?

Love and Bathrooms,
Lorraine

Candelabras would be cool, but the new bathroom looks great so far. And the claw-foot tub? I would say that does look pretty uncomfortable.

At 19:42 Blogger Siri said...

Have to differ on the claw tub - I loved mine - I have short legs, so it was just perfect for lollying in bubbles. I envy you your tub.

I've never liked pink in the bathroom....always seems sort of 1950s to me.

At 19:43 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Awesome, the bathroom should be a place of relaxation.
I will spend much time in mine tonight after ben's in bed trying to soak away the monthly ache that the heating pad has done nothing for today. OWIE!

I do like the tub in the dining room, can't wait to see the entire scene assembled.

My adventures today were dealing w/ the pest control man (finally pulling out the big guns to get rid of ants! Well, as big as my organic hippy self will allow) and going to the farmer's market. Dinner will be simple since I'm having difficulty being upright.

I'll bet of you googled you could find candelabra lights.

I love the photos of Bengals looking as if to say "Mom, what IS this for?"

Pat pat pat, Chantrelle.

Waves Madly at Sally!! Is your inspection over yet?

At 20:00 Blogger Beez said...

It's going to be a lovely place, BUT Ms. Quichie, why can't there be a candelabra? I could see a nice floor-standing one if there's going be more room.

*waits for skelly pics to...develop*

At 20:03 Blogger turtlesong said...

a bathtub skelly? an evening wear enveloped skelly? i just have to ask, were you like this before boss or did he do something to you? lol

can't wait for additional pics.

"Pity they can't be candelabras, but one can't have everything."

Think this lady works for Neil Gaiman? Hee!

Nice to see your Bengals approve. Or disapprove. Cats move in mysterious ways.

At 20:04 Blogger gaypet said...

Ah, cool!

At 20:14 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Siri, no -its next week. I swear I'm not going to worry as much about this one.

At 20:17 Blogger Jess said...

Will the bathing skelly be wearing a shower cap? That's what Mr. Jess and I would like to know. :D

Looking very nice! Can't wait to see the Tile Plan. I love tile. It's one of the few bits of doing up a house I actually do like. (Though it's better when someone other than me does it, heh.)

At 20:19 Blogger Fiend-in-law said...

I've never purchased an entire skeleton, but I did once buy a full size and anatomically correct plastic skull as a present for my brother.

I put it in my hand luggage on the flight back, and got the most fantastic double-take from the security person doing the luggage scanning.

They didn't search the bag, mind. Possibly they were too scared to.

At 20:20 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Welcome DreamerM!

I was like this before Boss. Since I was little. I remember playing with these finger puppet glow in the dark ghost things for years. And I wouldn't be friends with people who didn't believe in ghosts.

I would watch the Disney Hour JUST for that moment in the opening scene with the Haunted Mansion. Kid you not.

It's just me. I've always wanted a Spooky House.

Beez, do the math. One lit free standing candelabra plus 2 zipping Bengals equals....

I'd have a chandelier in there if I could. I have one in the kitchen. Why not?

We'll see what's around that I won't break my poor bank account tomorrow after I get my new hair.

(YES! I will have long hair again! Long dark hair with purple! Sod on this short hair, silliest thing I ever did.)

At 20:20 Blogger Jess said...

That should have been comment number 13.

aaaaand tick

At 20:23 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

No shower cap. It is going to be NAKED. Why else would the others be watching?

I was thinking, I ought to have a couple sitting at the table too. An entire Skeleton PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(One of these days I am going to go all out and have living humans over. I might be spending too much time alone with Bengals.)

At 20:26 Blogger Jess said...

Yes. Leave some chairs for live people. :D

At 20:38 Blogger vampi said...

quiche, i'm pretty sure you can find candelabra sconces at lowes or home despot. probably best to go for the elecrtic option though, candles being so flamable.

chatrelle... diatemaceous earth and borax. worked great for our ant problem. i had a total mental break down one morning as i discovered ants crawling on me. like tears and hyperventilation and totally irrational behavior. i am not prepared for bugs in the mornings. boy did some research and found out about these 2 powders. we had powdery home for a while, but ants are gone. twit or email me for more info and see if i can give you the links

At 20:41 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Bengal math? Sounds dangerous; count me out. Not that I don't like some danger, but Bengal math?

I figure Lorraine's being Spooky was one of the things that lead her to Boss, really.

At 20:44 Blogger Siri said...

Vampi - I use plain old ordinary Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder - per my sister - she said the ants don't like getting it on their feet.

Now, if you have a huge infestation, that probably won't work....

At 21:07 Blogger Dan Guy said...

A corner bath with little shelves sounds lovely. As does a tub full of skeletons in formal wear.

At 21:35 Blogger Lioness said...

I think a candelabra in the bath sounds divine! You can't have it hanging from the ceiling? Maybe just with a chain with the wiring swooping over from the wall where the existing light is?
I have wainscoting that is green, with a slightly different green above it. I don't recommend it. I was thinking it would look cool and foresty but it gives one's complexion an awful tone!

At 22:11 Blogger AletaMay said...

New tub looks very nice!

Old tub does too! Can't wait to see what happens next.

Time to curl up with an ebook and hope for early sleep.

Such a shame the water outlet was so low on that tub, otherwise it is a lovely thing.

At 01:03 Blogger Ticia said...

ticky box.

::waves frantically::

At 03:32 Blogger Marjorie said...

It's going to be lovely :-) I see no reason you can't have a chandalier if one fits in - and maybe tea-lights in hanging holders, so you could have candle-light the bengals would not easily knock over/down (this or maybe this kind of thing, but to hang from a wall bracket or ceiling, not a free standing stand.

I love the idea of Skeletons at the table - with or without live human guests as well.

At 03:33 Blogger Marjorie said...

And Chantrell, so glad to hear the good news about your friend.

At 07:41 Blogger EmilyLady said...

That's fantastic, Robyn!

At 08:26 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

The Clawfoot was lovely, but it will be lovely in the dinning room too. And now there is a lot more room in the bathroom, for a fountain for the Royals. Lear has started playing in his water dish, using it for grooming purposes, so I think he will like the water.

My evil tile plan didn't work, which is fine, as I didn't really like Tile Lady anyway. She was kind of condescending, and wouldn't get friendly, despite my friendliness.

The place I am going to get my sconces has tile, and I found out the stuff can be CUT so, I may get my green marble yet, which is what I see in there.

New hair today!

At 08:52 Blogger Phiala said...

Hm, been at work for an hour and a half and have accomplished nothing. Today may not be the most productive day ever.

This whole loathing-my-boss thing is bad for my attitude, even on days when I don't have to see him.

At 09:39 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Ticky box now, catch up later. Oh what a week!

At 09:54 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Yeah, I'm agreeing with Lioness, you should be able to find a chandelier that can use the sconces' power source on the way but will hang from the ceiling.

Can't wait to see how it all ends up!!

At 10:20 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

The problem with the chandelier would be one would have to install t in the ceiling, and then run the wires thru the wall, so you didn't have wires sort of hanging about, and I would need an electrification to do that.

If I get sconces I can just have Head Destroyer plug them in to where the old ones were.

The kind of chandelier I want would really cost too.

Sad as it is, I am on a budget.

I am going to search for green marble for around the tub trim. I love green marble, and I don't need much, so it won't cost much. At least that is the Plan.

I'll find out today after I get my new hair.

At 11:55 Blogger Ani said...

Look around for candelabra-style sconces, perhaps? Or put up some extra sconces for candles, don't get them wired?

Just thinking there's no reason NOT to have candelabras...

Turtle, et al:
Yes, I can bear witness that the "inner Lorraine" was always there! We initially bonded over, amongst other things, "things what glow in the dark" ever so many years ago :)

Borax for ants--good
Borax for cats (and some other pets)--not good. Why I can't use the stuff inside against our aggressive fire ant rovers. I swear I have ant PTSD. Wake up certain they are crawling on me...and they bite when you move. I move alot in my sleep, sigh. Clove oil and ground cinnamon around the bed, for the moment.

Bathroom sconces: I looked about online, and they *are* HORRIBLY expensive for the good ones! Understand your dilemma, Q.

But we are going to several odd stores up in ABQ today (including High Desert Ironworks) for our stairs (balistrades and the like) so if anything jumps out, will email you. Though suspect you will have already found the perfect thing--
You do have that way about you! :)

At 14:14 Blogger ariandalen said...

Why can't you get candelabra sconces, Ms. Fabulous? I know I've seen them, and electric powered. I'm with vampi; check Lowe's, Home Depot, and maybe Menard's (if I'm remembering the name of the last correctly). You might also try Surplus Warehouse, r see if your local Habitat for Humanity has a second chance center where they sell salvage, surplus from and donations.

Just remember that all those skeletons will have lots of surfaces for dust to collect. Just a thought before you populate your dining room with lots of skellys. :)

That is wonderful news for Susan, Robyn!

Glad you got back in one piece, Phiala!

At 14:17 Blogger vampi said...

ah yes, borax for pets not good. i am petless and didn't think. cinnamin and clove is a good idea. i know what you mean lys, i also have this feeling of them crawling on me, but i'm a wuss as these are just black sugar ants. if it was fire ants, i would have abandoned my crap and just moved. i just can't deal with bugs, more so with bugs that attack me.

i'm sure Minneapolis has some funky building restoration stores. you know hte ones that ater all the bits from demolished or remodeled buildings so they have all the weird bits and bobs. i love wandering around those places for stuff. i wish i was more mechanically inclined or had room for power tools. i've always wanted to take an old door and turn it into a table.

I'm am such a doofus. I put flour, water, yeast, etc. in the newly arrived bread maker. But it was already lunch time so then i put some sliced bread I had in the toaster. I came and checked email, etc. Walked back in the kitchen, smelled the toast and thought, "How did the bread maker get to the baking stage so quickly? It already smells like bread!!!" DUH, toaster dipwad. :P

Apparently I was hungrier than I thought ;-)

Hope the remodeling search and the new hair go well! YAY NEW HAIR!

And now I have my long hair back, hurrah! I missed it, never again am I cutting it!

It's pretty long, and very dark, with lots of shades of purple. I love it.

Pics tomorrow.

Found no tile. Did find some weird sconces that remind me of the Royalton Hotel, oddly enough. It will be a bathroom like no other, I am sure.

Chantrelle: Your Tuesday article? I have rarely found something on that label I enjoy, either...but when I do, I really DO!! You certainly made the cafe sound like a necessary stop next time we're in that state, however. Probably why you are being stalked, er, followed now :)

Lorraine: Second the YAY for long hair--have a great deal of trouble imagining you otherwise. Just doesn't sound right! Look forward to pics....also look forward to seeing the sconces you did evidently find. Good luck on tile adventures.

We found iron newels and spindles today. We are probably NOT getting them forged specifically for us.....since we were given the price tag. Certainly not over priced--hand crafting and masterworking deserves every penny. Just out of our budget. Unfortunately.

sleep now....
(oooooo, PS Vampi: I'm SO with you..that is why I sleep on the couch after waking up in the middle of the night. Whether the ants can be actually seen or not. :))

At 04:51 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Hey, I could do with some scones too...
:)

At 06:17 Blogger louisa said...

Well I don't know 'bout you but I'm now eating a scone. A lovely fruit scone with a cup of tea. Yum.

At 06:24 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Eating grapes lifted from our parking lot at work (and thoroughly washed) with verbena tea (verbena lifted from my garden).
Nice but not a suitable replacement for scones. Looking into my cup, I can foresee scones in my near to midterm future. Like Sunday. Tea time.

At 06:31 Blogger Phiala said...

I too would like a scone. This may be possible sometime this weekend.

*looks at to-do list for weekend*

*wedges "bake scones" in edgewise between two other tasks*

Scones increase morale and thus productivity, right?

At 07:05 Blogger louisa said...

Don't know about morale but I'm certainly feeling much more moral, must have been the raisins.

At 07:11 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Aye, raisins (or prunes) would do that...

At 07:12 Blogger Phiala said...

Raisins are virtuous, I'm sure. I had dried cherries in my oatmeal, a bit more decadant I think.

Ooooh... I could make spiced buns instead of scones. Because, you know, they take longer and create more procrastination opportunities. (Spiced buns would be known as hot cross buns if it were springtime.)

And I have a pile of Asian pears from a friend's tree. I could make a pie.

Mmmm. Must be baking this weekend, obviously.

At 07:14 Blogger spacedlaw said...

ooooh, I haven't baked a Dutch apple pie (appel geback) for AGES! I must do one soon.
Have you had the opportunity to try these while in Holland, Phiala?

At 07:25 Blogger Phiala said...

Sounds lovely, Nathalie, and not all all like what's called a "Dutch Apple Pie" in the US. That's a crumb-topped apple pie, and is Pennsylvania Dutch (Amish) rather than Netherlands Dutch.

I didn't try that, but did try various other exceptionally good baked items. We breakfasted from bakeries both mornings in Amsterdam.

At 07:28 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I'll have to post pictures and recipe then...

At 07:32 Blogger Phiala said...

Please do. I found pics by using google.nl but I'm afraid that if I tried to follow a Dutch recipe for an apple dessert, I'd end up with roast beef instead.

I would just be happy if my tea had caffine in it this morning. Not noticing the Decaf label on tea you have bought is Not Good.

The sad thing is was I bought it several days ago and this happened yesterday too.

This morning I am going riding at the riding place, and showing a Hunter the property lines around our house.

These are happening at the same time in different places.

SEE what a lack of caffine can do?????

New blog tonight. On something exciting. Whatever it may be.

At 09:40 Blogger dabbler said...

Akin to my buying half and half yesterday for today's coffee, reminding myself multiple times not to leave it in the fridge at my office....and where do you suppose it is?

Haven't scheduled myself to be in two places at once, but am searching for a book I've sold on Amazon, which I have seen on the sale shelves in recent memory. Have now looked three times and it will not reveal itself. Guess I'll look again after I get some coffee when I take DD to work.

Does the riding place have tea?

At 10:08 Blogger Marjorie said...

So easily done. I have not scheduled myself to be in two places at once, but someone else has. Fortunately my bilocation is not required until 14th October, so I have time to try to arrange a doppelganger.

I do however have a nagging feeling that tehrewas something which I meant to do durng my lunch hour today. As it is now 4 o'clock and I still an't remember what it was, I shall have to settle for hoping it was not too urgent!

At 10:09 Blogger Marjorie said...

PS - re: Hunter - Is this so they do not come onto your property and shoot things?

(And does this mean that Cabal is sporting his SuperDog cape again?

At 10:40 Blogger Na said...

Ooooh, scones! Now there's a thought. And tea. There's another thought. I can do tea, oh yes. Just the thing. But scones, they now need to be sought out...

I don't think I've managed bilocation. But possibly I have. Might that explain the seeming semi-perpetual state of fuzzy-brained-ness I find myself in?

At 10:46 Blogger Jess said...

Oh, great. Now I want a scone. Thanks, you lot. :P

At 10:51 Blogger Hellie said...

Mmm scones. I will just have to make do with tea, trying to be good for a few weeks until my birthday holiday!

Although I do make a good scone - I honed my skills over years of my mum helping out with cream teas at the annual village festival! For some reason, I always ended up in charge of the baking!

I've been cutting down on caffeine on purpose and am very dozy this afternoon. Think I'll have to get back on the strong stuff. Bring on the wkend, is it wrong that I am really excited about having a boyfriend free one?!

At 11:08 Blogger louisa said...

Speaking of hunters, just got this from a friend - a New Yorker living in Clemson: Today marks the opening of alligator hunting season in South Carolina, but only for bow and harpoon. This has, once again, caused K and I to wonder, "Where the fuck are we"?
