Gigs This Weekend!

Ok, do you ever get one of those texts that sort of change a whole lot of things fast? I got one tonight from Bandmate Paul that said:

"Hey all set for this weekend? Can't wait to play again!"

Uh, yes!. Sure. Knew that. Really.

Or maybe I thought our shows were not this weekend but next.

Quick check of the internet shows Paul is right. This weekend. (And none of you noticed this? Ok, so it isn't on our website)

SO: Paul and Lorraine, this Friday and Saturday the 11th and 12th, at Charlies Pub in Stillwater, 7:30 to 11:30pm both nights!

If you are near, please come down, we want to pack this place, and these shows are going to be HOT! Tell everyone, pass the word! We have been on Holiday for 6 weeks now with no gigs, and we are READY! Three Bows! The Cello Bow! New songs!

Very sorry for the short notice, but if you want some fun this weekend, we are going to be IT!

Love ad Gigs again!
Lorraine

Thought of you last weekend, Q. They have a lovely new Irish pub in my hometown (Nine Irish Brothers), and my parents took me to dinner there. The waitress mentioned that they have live music on Fridays and my parents wondered where they'd have room. I told 'em, all you need for an Irish band is a corner and some chairs.;)

Awesome driving on the Bobcat too..I've always wanted to try one out.

At 01:33 Blogger Marjorie said...

Hope there is ROCK tonight & tomorrow - also that Maddy feels better.

At 05:55 Blogger Jess said...

The Cello Bow!! Yippee!! \o/ Are we webcasting?

At 07:15 Blogger DataGoddess said...

bet it's going to be a lot of fun :-)

At 07:29 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I want to be there! You know, I should check out the Paul and Lorraine sight. This is something I tend not to do. Okay, thanks for the reminder.

Again, I want to be there. I am with you in spirit! Dancing and doing Spock hands!

At 08:06 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Wishing you a couple of fabulous nights with a room chock-full of appreciative people. Also wishing I could be one of them.

At 09:02 Blogger gaypet said...

I am going to try for Sat.

At 10:06 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Yea Gayle!

No webcasting, I didn't even know we were PLAYING until 11:30 last night!

I do hope there are a lot of people, I am really ready for this!

For today: tricksy bits at work. It all works, sometimes it is just tricksy.

Wish I was there for the rock--with fiends packing the house!

At 11:41 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Wish we could be there too! Nothing helps the ROCK more than a 5yr old under a table w/ an ipod ;-)

At 12:30 Blogger Marjorie said...

OK, hypothetical question: Suppose that you had been organised enough to buy rail tickets well in advance in preparation for a trip to London tomorrow to see Amanda Palmer, and had put said tickets & your oyster card somewhere safe until it was time to pack... Where exactly would that safe place have been, do you think?

At 12:44 Blogger vampi said...

did you check the freezer?

At 12:50 Blogger Siri said...

The cedar chest Marjorie - look there.

Or in the top drawer of the dresser in the dining room.

At 12:53 Blogger Marjorie said...

But I don't have a cedar chest or a dresser (or a dinig room, come to think of it!)

Not in the freezer. Tybalt swears he hasn't eaten it.

Perhaps it is with my passport. If I can remember where that is.

At 13:25 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Good luck, Marjorie! Let us know what's happening ...

At 13:40 Blogger AletaMay said...

If it were me, Marjorie, it would be in the Indian hanging pockets thing on the back of my front door. Do you have one of those?

Or it would be in my jacket pocket. Or in the stack of the really important things I want to know where are under the stack of useless things I should throw away.

Good luck!

I hope to make it to Charlies! My friend is doing this and I need to figure out when to do what. What a crazy busy week I am having. It feels good.

At 13:43 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I like being busy, Aleta.

At 13:43 Blogger EmilyLady said...

You know I think I've been going into Fiend withdrawal lately? I miss all of you.

At 13:43 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Even though of course you're all HERE. But in some ways it isn't the same as BEING with you.

At 13:44 Blogger Jess said...

Behind That One Desk Drawer. Always happens.

At 13:45 Blogger EmilyLady said...

And what your friend is undertaking looks beautiful, Aleta.

At 13:45 Blogger Jess said...

I miss everybody, too!

At 13:48 Blogger Marjorie said...

Ooh, found them. In the litle drawer in the kitchen. You know, where the emergency back-up corkscrew and the thingy for blleding the radiators live.

At 13:53 Blogger Jess said...

Marjorie, I always lose stuff in that drawer. It's always crammed full of stuff. Sometimes I can't even open it.

At 13:56 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Oh, good, I was worried you wouldn't find them - but of course did not want to say so ...

At 15:07 Blogger Siri said...

I told you it was in the drawer. It always is.

The location of the drawer might be different, but it is always in that drawer.

At 15:25 Blogger Marjorie said...

So true, Siri! Emily, I wasn't worried I wouldn't find them. I knew they wouldn't have been thrown away, It's just that for a small house I have a lot of places where tickets might have been put to be safe, and looking can be time consuming.

I need to stop tiying up. That's what catches me out, every time.

At 15:30 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I know, tidying can really mess things up sometimes ...

At 15:35 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

All the tricksy bits worked!

I think tho, the problem with pulling off minor/major miracles is that then it is assumed that OF COURSE one can do this all the time.

Of course, one can.

I just want to be with my band on my stage. Mostly I know what I am doing there. Or not. But it always works out.

Come to think on it, that could describe my job too.

Waxing philosophy here folks, and am in sore need of a NAP.

At 15:45 Blogger Na said...

A good nap can also work miracles.

Glad to read you found your tix, Marjorie!

I love that Drawer. Didn't have one at our last place, but we have one now, and it makes me happy.

At 19:49 Blogger Dan Guy said...

Of all the weekend for my teleporter to go on the fritz!

At 20:42 Blogger EmilyLady said...

That sucks, Dan Guy.

At 20:48 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Fods, too sick to stay awake. But I'm STILL at the pub in spirit.

At 21:35 Blogger Dan Guy said...

Just got tickets to my first AFP show. Woo!

At 21:41 Blogger AletaMay said...

You are in for a great time Dan!

At 21:47 Blogger AletaMay said...

Oh fiends. I wish I were rocking out at Charlie's tonight. This week kicked my butt! Early to bed tonight but tomorrow... tomorrow night I do believe I'll be hearing the rock live!

At 22:35 Blogger ariandalen said...

I trust tonight's gig is made of Rock, Ms. Fabulous! You looked like you were having lots of fun on the Bobcat. Perhaps a full-sized tractor is next? ;)

Wish I could go to both performances with you, Aleta. The dance looks really interesting, and we all know how much fun Dr. Paul and Ms. Fabulous are!

Our next door neighbor has an Icelandic pony. Her name is Kija, though I don't know that the spelling is correct. She has a shaggy mane and tail, and is sweet. :)

Welcome, turtle, Pink and Indy! Glad you decided to acknowledge your Fiendish sympathies. If you haven't done so yet, pick up your white, buckled jacket and any personalization supplies you might need. They come in handy at times, and we each have one. :)

At 22:36 Blogger One Sock Short said...

I'm with Emily. Miss you all! Those who do make it to Charlie's will just have to Represent that much more for the rest of us, cruelly separated by distance.

Feeling weird that my former staff member is now following me on twitter. As of today, I'm not her boss anymore, but it still feels weird. Couldn't think of a nice way to say 'um, rather you didn't '. I socalize comfortably with other staff members, but this situation just feels different. Ah well, the weirdness will probably fade.

Have a good weekend, fiends!

At 23:54 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I hope the gig went well and that you have a smooth travel back home.

At 01:15 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Home. Much rock was had. I felt so loved, so many people missed us so, and they were so happy we were back! Need some serious bow repair tho, HOW I managed to forget that during our holiday, I'll never know..

OSS, block her. You don't want her following? Why should you feel weird.

What else? Who can think. I am going to Bengal, then Bed.

(Who knew they were verbs?)

At 02:09 Blogger Marjorie said...

Hurrah for Rock and for creating new verbs!

Bow repair? Do they shed horsehair (or whatever it is the strings are made from?) or something more serious?

Just passing through before I fall off the internets for the weekend.

Just checked for exhibitions etc (I have sevaral hours tomorrow before my train home) - the V&A has one about fairy stories... lookes interesting.

OSS I agree with Q, no obligation to have her follow if you don't feel comfortable.

At 07:38 Blogger EmilyLady said...

OSS, that is kind of like a therapist having her patient follow her on Twitter.

At 08:34 Blogger dabbler said...

Hey Emily...that's one of many reasons I don't twitter!
FB is risky enough...but so far, none of my patients have turned up there.

No rock last night for me, but a Broadway musical sing-along, and a Sullivan (of Gilbert and Sullivan fame) single act operetta called Cox and Box. Very fun.

I like Danth's idea of a tour... If you ever want to tour, Quiche, I might be able to find you a Philly area venue... if, of course, you needed any help.

At 08:54 Blogger Jess said...

Yay rock! I hope the cello bow could take it.

OMG, Twitter is down1!!1!! OH NOES PANIC :O

At 09:00 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I don't Twitter much at all these days. There are things about it I have grown to dislike.

At 10:30 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Morning all! Lovely day in the neighborhood.

The cello bow, uh, didn't make it, as in I forgot it. Tonight tho!

Bows need re-hairing, how often depends on how harsh one is on them. Mine have needed it for a while now, I'll take them in next week.

No touring! There isn't a point for a band like Paul and I, we aren't looking to grow up and become the next huge thing. Who would do the Assistanting? And Paul has kids and is a geneticist.

We aren't however, opposed to GOING somewhere, but it would need to be like a Convention, where people fly us in, put us up, have a set up and have us do a show.

I really like Twitter, but it depends on how you are using it. I have a lot of years experience only putting out what I want public and having what I do seen by a whole lot of people. It's great for getting stuff out, we've saved Bengals remember.

My hands suspect they have not played like they did in a very long time. Thinking hot tub.

At 10:47 Blogger Siri said...

Hot tub sounds good - got up and walked almost 2 miles this AM before breakfast. Now waiting for people to call me back so I can get on with my day. Can't do what I need to do until others do what they need to do. Tap tap tap.....

At 10:51 Blogger Fluffy said...

Paul is a geneticist. Who knew? Well, someone did, I'm sure, but not me. Tres cool.

I just want to tell Marjorie that I think vomit valentines could be VERY BIG. Think exes. Just saying.

And I just looked in R's bedroom and suddenly realized I REALLY need a Bobcat.

At 11:08 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Cool! Genetics!

At 12:56 Blogger Jess said...

Well if the other bows are hairless, it's a good thing Cello Bow ended up on call. :D

I've never really liked Twitter. Only really still on it to talk all of you guys-- but heck, I can do that here. And on Facebook. It's just one more thing to stare at that I don't actually need. Grumble. Snrr.

You all should know that I fixed the headboard on my bed this afternoon, as it was on the verge of falling apart in spectacular fashion. Go me with the glue and clamps! And a bungee cord.

At 13:01 Anonymous Lysandwr said...

Go Jess w/glue and clamps! wOOt!!

And especially with bungee cord.

Know what I mean, know what I mean?--in best Pythonesque tone....:)

At 13:09 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Paul is a molecular geneticist of some sort. He explained to me once, but I didn't understand a word. Tried to read his PhD thesis, which made us laugh. You can call him "Dr. Paul"

Hot tub worked its wonders on soreness, and now I am getting happy about playing again tonight!

With cello bow!

At 13:26 Blogger AletaMay said...

Hey fiends.

Some of you may already know about this but I thought there might be some interest here. Crossed Genres Magazine had an ad focused on their upcoming LGBTQ themed issue rejected by Flash Fiction Online.

This has become a rather big thing and you can read a good overview with links to related posts here

I slept in. It was lovely.

At 19:11 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Almost time for gig number two, I believe. I am there. I promise you, I am there.

At 22:19 Blogger Na said...

I imagine as I type this that FabLo and Dr Paul are 'bout wrapping up the evening. Should like to be there, too. Hope it's ROCKIN'.

Yeah, I'm rather hooked on Twitter, but that's just it - it's rather like an addiction. Hmmm.

Didn't Dr Wicked set up a chatroom over here for the Fiends? I recall trying something out that was chatroom like, except I couldn't really use it, something wonky with my password or account.

At 23:46 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Good mornevening, fiends...
Not quite awake here. Up but tea shall be needed to maintain the verticality of it all.

At 00:30 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Just found out my friend who's been going through chemo and radiation is clear of the hodkins they've been treating her for but they found tumors in the pelvic/ovarian area :( She is one of the kindest, most amazing people I know. Please keep her in your thoughts. She's already been through so much over the last 9 months!

At 00:44 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Oh Rbyn, that is hard. Keeping your friend, her family and friends and you in my thoughts.

Na - there is a chat area, under the Fiends tab. We really all should go there sometime and chat *grin*

At 01:05 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Home. Gig good. Long sets. Hands hurt. Bows dead.

Jess, viola. Not cello. Loved it tho, Used it for running to stand still. Worked.

Bengals fed. Wish I had tea, but used up the rest of me feeding those starving demons.

Sleep. Soon. Maybe here on couch.

At 07:13 Blogger Jess said...

Yay! :)

Viola? Weird. It's definitely a cello sitting in our living room, and that's the bow that originally went with it.

At 07:23 Blogger Fiend-in-law said...

If that's not a cello bow, then my old cello teacher was a dreadful old liar.

At 08:25 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Oh, what a nightmare, Robyn. I'm sorry to hear it.

At 09:28 Blogger Marjorie said...

Robyn - so sorry to hear about your friend - it must have been such a shock. I do hope that knowing so many people are thinking of her helps a little.

At 09:30 Blogger Marjorie said...

On a more cheerful note, the AFP gig last night was fantstic - great atmosphere - and as an added and unespected bonus, Boss sang, too! Lovely to meet Beth, as well.

I shall blog it all later :-)

Now at Paddington Station waiting for my train home.

At 09:36 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Morning!

Well, now Jess, maybe it is a cello bow, looking at some pictures here, I think I was wrong.I had thought they were larger, see how much one can still learn?

Do you now have a cello and no BOW? I thought this was an extra you happened to have! Sillies!

Tea is such a good thing.

Books today, lots of books. Aleta is coming over to help me. She says she likes the boring bits (filing fiction) and I shall deal with the mess I made yesterday of non fiction, ie pulling it all off the shelves after coming to the conclusion there was no longer ANY order to it.

Ought to be entertaining.

Oh, I spoke to Boss about this whole project (thought he was going to cry he was so happy) so it isn't much secret anymore, you can talk putting books in order all you like. I'll do a blog on it tonight.

At 10:19 Blogger Fiend-in-law said...

No, I still have a bow - that was a spare!

At 10:52 Blogger Jess said...

Apparently it's not the length, but the angle of the head, and the distance of the strings from the body of the bow. Says Mister. I told him to stick it in his comment but he didn't. I think it's interesting, but he is Being Shy. :)

At 11:41 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I think organizing books is way fun. That's why I shelve at libraries.

At 12:03 Blogger Fiend-in-law said...

I'm being Reserved, not shy - it's a British thing.

At 12:30 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Organizing books is most certainly a Good Time, in my book. (Library puns! Duck and cover!) If I had the vacation time and money, I'd be offering up both so I could help too.

The sorting-stuff-out frenzy continues here. As soon as I have been sufficiently caffienated.

Robyn, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. What's her first name?

At 13:03 Blogger Ticia said...

I've survived my first over-booked weekend of the next month.

Friday-Flogging Molly
Saturday- 8 hour woman empowering class. :) followed immediately by my husband's 30 year High School Reunion.

Robyn - Your friend is in my thoughts. :(

Q - I wish you and Paul were playing closer to me. :( I love rocking out to your music! You guys rock! And Charlie's is a great pub (and not just because of the Irish Car Bombs!) :)

At 13:08 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Charlie's was a fantastic little place.

OSS, library puns!! Let me join you!

At 13:42 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Her name is Sarah. Thanks guys!

We're having a very mellow sunday. Frittata of course (our food-church ritual!), Wii, nytimes crossword. Ben and i were going to go tomato picking but it's an hour away and ends at 1pm...it's 11:40. Not gonna happen!

Glad the show last night rocked, knew it would! Even w/out the mass of fiends drunkenly cheering and singing along.

Paul's a geneticist?!!? I don't even know what that entails and i'm totally impressed.

At 13:49 Blogger Chantrelle said...

On a completely unrelated note, have you guys seen this couch?

At 14:05 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Crazy couch!
Sorry to read about your friend, Chanterelle. I hope she has plenty of support around her.

At 14:52 Blogger EmilyLady said...

The couch! Whoa!

Sarah has Fiend love.

At 17:04 Blogger Fluffy said...

1. Best to Sarah. I have a friend who was the second full recovery (in the 70s) of Hodgkins. Things have come a long way since then. We're pulling for your friend, Robyn.

2. And, weird, but yesterday I ended up pulling the books off the shelves in the living room and our bedroom. Still have a pile to rearrange in the LR but the bedroom is spanking-new lovely organized. I realized we have a bunch of graphic novels and the old half-shelf at the end of the fiction shelves will not cut it.

3. And I listened again to "Nation," by T. Pratchett while I was doing the shelving. If you haven't read it, GO! It's amazing.

At 17:16 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I have not read it myself.

I hate being sedentary; the doctor told me to stay off my feet and get better, but I want to go outside and jump on the trampoline or at least do SOMETHING. I know I'll feel horrid if I do, but I must do something ... grr ...

At 19:11 Blogger Jane said...

i just finished Nation, liked it a lot.

Robyn, sorry about your friend. Hope there are treatments for this.

At 21:17 Blogger vampi said...

much good will for Sarah coming her way.

that couch was laffo.

hair is now "intense auburn" too soon to love/hate.

At 22:06 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Intense auburn sounds kewl.

Can't sleep. But I'm sick so I'm entitled.

At 22:35 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

HOME! And my Spooky House is CLEAN! I love clean house day. The best feeling. Especially after working all day.

Well, most of all day, the last bit was watching MTV music awards with Mads. We missed the first half hour, and Lady Gaga, but will see it tomorrow. Did get to see Beyonce Single Ladies performance. Blew me away.

That lady can dance. And sing. And put together a show.

Now I am Bengaling, and walking around in the CLEAN.

I am not clean. Rather the opposite.

At 22:50 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I think Beyonce is cool. Still haven't looked into Lady Gaga at all, not really. I don't know much about her.

At 22:54 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Oh, forgot to mention that I submitted something to Teen Ink magazine tonight. I've had my poetry in there twice before - wish me luck!

At 01:36 Blogger Dragonsally said...

you rock Emily - good luck!

Envious of your clean house Q.

And still thinking of Sarah.

At 01:57 Blogger Marjorie said...

Yay for clean!

And good luck, Emily. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Meanwhile, for those who don't twitter - Boss singing at AFP's gig here

At 08:23 Blogger louisa said...

Hello all! Way behind here, off-line all weekend as I had to stand in a park in the sunshine selling books to children (have I mentioned I love my job??). A lot of work, a lot of fun, a lot of very tired me.

At 11:24 Blogger Na said...

Surfing the interwebs, found this. The Aug 22 is pretty brilliant, too, but I particularly thought of Q and fiends when I read the Aug 18 Shoes for Bees entry.

At 11:39 Blogger Na said...

Catching up a bit...

More good thoughts to your friend, Chantrelle.

Luck, Emily.

Thanks for that link, Marjorie. Didn't know Q's Boss has such a decent singing voice. :D And is quite the Renaissance man: writer, tambourine player, singer, movie maker, etc. etc.

Happy new week, all. Unusually kind weather here: still having cool nights and warm days. This morning heard someone describe the forecast as "blazing hot" - highs in the low 80s all week. I understand if folks what know Texas snicker a little.

At 11:39 Blogger Na said...

Oh, and I found a $5 bill on the sidewalk this morning. \o/

At 12:26 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I have not yet watched the video, but I always thought Boss couldn't sing. (blush)

At 12:27 Blogger Chantrelle said...

I am trying to be such a good little housewife...this is hard! Today I'm tackling the fridge (did the freezer and pantry last week). I have my AFP and Dolls mix blaring. Wish me luck, we have an amazing amount of condiments!

Then have 2 foodporn reviews to write up.

It rained here last night, it was wonderful! I hope this means fire season is done.

Happy monday!

At 13:18 Blogger AletaMay said...

Thinking of your friend Chantrelle.

I am at work. Today is the day I have to staff an office other than my own. Every Monday for a few hours I will sit here, not really knowing what to do if anyone comes in needing anything. Oh well.

I am a bit nervous. I feel like I may be getting a cold. I really can't get sick right now. I shall fight the good fight!

At 13:28 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Fight, girl!

At 14:21 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I am beginning to get a little weary of my day. And it sure as heck ain't close to over.

I don't think it's half over.

Or even a third.

I may not even have STARTED yet, for all I have been at it since 9.

New blog tonight. May be late tho.

Or early. It's the sort of day where there are no surprises. Only situations.

At 14:29 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Ooops. Sounds like a nasty day.
Hugs (and tea).

At 14:30 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Want me to fly out there and you can come here and clean my fridge? No? Damn.

Then yes, hugs and tea to you ;-)

At 14:39 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Quite sorry to hear that, Quiche.

At 14:50 Blogger Na said...

Boooo! for interminable work days.

I have a plan for this afternoon. I have seen a lot of lovely flowers in neighborhood gardens going to seed. I and my monsters, I think, shall go out and about and harvest seeds... hee hee! Especially I hope to find some from a variety of hollyhocks, including one I've seen that's a deep purply black.

At 14:59 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Hope that didn't sound snarky...i really really don't want your job -- i'd suck at it and you are empress, queen and fabulous. Anyway, hope the day improves!

I'm off to the exciting world of the eye dr's office to get hubby's glasses fixed!

At 15:08 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Molto exciting. Don't worry Robyn, we know you aren't a snark. Wait, is snark a noun? Is it a word at all? Hmm ...

At 15:09 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Weren't snarks some sort of saturday morning cartoon?

At 15:13 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Sure Emily, it's been a noun since at least 1879. Love the supporting quotation in the OED: "Hunting for snarkes is a very pleasant occupation, if you do but make-believe strong enough."

At 15:21 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Thanks! I didn't know.

At 15:25 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Me neither. Gotta love the OED!

At 16:23 Blogger Marjorie said...

There was the hunting of the Snark, was there not? (Lewis Carroll) But it turned out to be a Boojum in the end :-)

Q, hope your day improves. Even for you, I suspect that only a finite number of miracles can be performed in any one day.

Tea and virtual hugs for you.

Bed for me. I'm sleepy and I think I've caught a cold.

At 18:01 Blogger EmilyLady said...

And Aleta too! Autumn is coming.
