It Was Just One Thing, Really....

Didn't do the honey extracting today, the morning was all about THINGS and the afternoon was too nice except for the invasion of Lady Beetles. Did get to Skype with a very tired, but happy Boss, and he got to see his Dog, who kept running to the door to see where he was.

I got home tonight and had my chores in mind, change the sheets, vacuum the up, but I had to take the garbage out and the tree in the kitchen was in the way so I thought if it moved over where the table was, I could get out easier, so I moved the table and the chair had to follow along behind, as WHY have a table with no chair, a table with a TREE makes NO sense, but then the catbox needed to go elsewhere and the fern on the fridge needed to hang from the ceiling, as clearly it looked pretty silly sitting on top of the fridge, besides getting itself caught in the fridge every time I opened it, and the garbage might go perfectly where the vacuum was, opening up a right proper stretch to get to the door, which WAS the POINT of this all.

But I felt bad as the fridge needed cleaning out, and looked pretty bare sitting there with no fern and all, then the sink and the counters were gross, from cleaning up the bits of fern, which sheds every time one moves it. (Hanging it from the ceiling, over the stove may not have been my BEST idea ever, but it's done now)

And then I thought I sure don't USE the pans so much, what if I stuck a bunch of them in the cupboard you can't get to, now that the tree is in the way, rather than hanging them from the pot thing, THEN I could hang all the cool things I got from the Spirit Shop from it instead.

THEN I remembered I still had to change the sheets and vacuum the up.

I get WAY too distracted here in the Spooky House some nights.

Love and Kitchen,
Lorraine

That's the trouble with moving things...it avalanches!
Are the Bengals happy with the new arrangement?

Distraction is good in a Spooky House; it's just what it needs sometimes.

At 21:28 Blogger Jess said...

Lookin' good! You got much further than I did yesterday, doing similar. Got as far as vacuuming, and some laundry, then said Screw It. Man, I need a lighter vacuum cleaner. That sucker (quite literally a sucker, come to think of it) weighs about three million pounds.*

How goes the ladybug purge? Are they still winning? Last I saw on Twitter, the bugs were winning. At least it's not, erm, Bigass Spiders? :/

_______

*Estimation may involve some exaggeration.

At 21:31 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

HArd o say about the Bengals liking it. They loved the Process..

BIGASS Ladybeetles are winning.

I don' normally even TRY and vacuum, but Spooky Teen hasn't bee in a couple weeks due to flu and such, and it was getting pretty ooky up there.

At 21:57 Blogger Jess said...

What I recommend is the following: don't try to use all three million pounds of vacuum cleaner to do the stairs. You'll do yourself a Mischief. Let's just say that my back and the heat pad have got well acquainted this evening.

I'd rather have Bigass Ladybeetles than Bigass Fleas, that's for sure. The cats have fleas. The cats don't go out. How did the fleas get in?! Heck if I know. Ugh.

At 22:01 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I don't try and do the stairs any way shape or form, thats' for pros, which I am NOT, and my vacuum isn't 3 million pounds.

Well, it might be, I don't LIFT it. Spooky Teen brings her own, and I keep mine UP just for such times for the bedroom.

Fleas? Well, mousies can get in. And BIGASS Spiders. And BATS. I did think tho fleas had to kind of ride in...

At 22:06 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

How come you and I , Jess, are the only ones here? Did they hate my blog? Our excessive vacuuming motivation?

Are they eaten up with envy at our Super Getting Chores Done Evenings?

Don't you love those household rearrangements that take on a life of their own? Guess I'm not the only one who has them. :-)

At 22:23 Blogger Na said...

Q, the posts are wonderful. Loads of great pics these days. I suppose Mim and Venus were supervising that rearranging binge?

I wanna wanna wanna new vacuum! Did the house rearranging and sorting thing yesterday, too. Then woke this morning to realize I'd completely forgotten to finish a work project due today. *sigh* This is not the usual Me. No likey. But at least the house feels more homey.

Speaking of suckers, and book recs, I took the fiendish suggestion getting Sunshine and oh wowse! how I am enjoying that. I enjoy the story fine, but moreso I find myself thinking over and over, "This is so well written! Also read some of that yesterday, when I ought to have been working. *sigh* But at least I got to relax a little.

"C'mon, Simone, tell me about your big 'but'."

At 22:28 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

It does feel good when things are in order, drives my crazy when my Spooky House isn't.

Venus and Mim certainly participated. Not sure they HELPED.

Sunshine is one of my fav books ever, truly.

I love your spontaneous rearranging!

I've been trying to reduce some chaos in this house since the remodel is causing so much...i'm not good at it though, I just make piles.

Sorry I wasn't here to visit earlier, ben was throwing a fit about cleaning up star wars toys...you would have thought I was beating the kid! Good lord he was upset over nuthin'! Think i'm fighting the plague now, i can feel it in my throat and head...I will WIN!!! DAMMIT!

At 22:53 Blogger Na said...

Agree, home in order -> much reduced stress. I can relax a lot more, enjoy the surroundings, and not be noticing at all the things that need picking up / dusting / moving.

I can see why a body might enjoy Sunshine so much. Now that I'm well into it, I want to make it last, stretch it out over a week or so...

Funny, we've got ladybeetles, too. Just a few each day appear somewhere in the house, and I take 'em outside, but I doubt it's the same one over and over. I can't figure out where they're coming from, unless some got inside during warmer weather then ewwwww! laid eggs inside somewhere, and now they're coming out?

At 22:56 Blogger Na said...

Dang. It's raining. We've hardly seen the sun in weeks. No sunshine here. :(

Go Chantrelle, GO! Kick that bug!

Lots of peeps coming down with things. My guy had that Weirdo Illness thing, too, where he'd be better, then worse, then better... Also lasted about 3-4 weeks. Foo-ay.

At 22:57 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Mmmm, piles. Those things you move from one spot to another in a mad attempt to tidy up.
Our piles breed.

hahaha i did giggle mightily at the rearranging cascade.

i took tomorrow off to pack, so why am i freaking out now? oh, and my macbook battery has decided to explod:/ luckily i have appointment tomorrow. if they don't have a battery i will be one irritated bat.

*snugs siri

oh and about vacuums, i don't own one anymore, i have no carpet, problem solved.

vampi, bon voyage!

Siri, welcome home!

I just can't ever figure out how trying to do just one thing turns into creating a mess that looks like several holy hand grenades went off. At least you can remember your sequence; when you get older; you may start in one spot but the time you get the entire house in a maelstrom; I've completely forgotten what I started to do in the first place.. Which most of the time was just looking for my glasses... LOL

Avalanche cleaning reminds me of those little square puzzles where the numbers need to be put in order from 1-9. You get the three up where it needs to be, but for the two to go next to it, suddenly the three is down in the eight spot, and in moving the three back, the two is suddenly in the five spot, and the three won't go back where it needs to go.

I'm so glad my steps aren't carpeted. (Sadly, my kitchen currently *is.*)

cascading events, no that never happens to me nuh uh! (as if) Things are pesky and moveable, and then . . Moving Happens.

I knew someone whose fern was very very happy in the bathroom with the shower in it, but maybe it was a different kind of fern.

Those Lady beetles are a menace. Have lived through an uprising of lady beetles before, when living in Mad., Wis.

Good luck getting stuff done, although (correct me if I'm wrong....) shouldn't you be kicking back and resting? You are one busy lady!

At 00:26 Blogger spacedlaw said...

The kitties don't look too sure about those changes...

Awww on Cabal looking for Neil everywhere because he could hear him.
He is such a heart throb, this one.

At 00:54 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Ok. I just googled to see if ladybeetles=ladybirds. Most of them are good guys, so are the ones at Boss's house the baddies?

At 00:56 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Hem, I googled more. So these multicoloured Asian Ladybeetles are kind of the equivalent of cane toads here.

At 01:41 Blogger Marjorie said...

Oh yes, that re-arranging cascade, I know that feeling. I want to re-arrange my bedroom but am a little owrried about triggering some entire house melt-down if I'm not careful.

Am also seriously considering buying a little handheld hoover just for the stairs. I can only reach half way up, from the hall.

Hope all who are sickly get well, and all who are well stay well.

(Yay for happy Boss, and poor confised Cabal....)

If you don'[t want to use chemicals to get rid of the fleas there are some great natural remidies for them, i had to use them as i hada cat with severe allergies to flea meds and a me with a severe allergy to fleas
my favorite is to get lemons slice them thin boil them in water for like an hour add more water as needed strain the water into a spray bottle, you can spray everything the carpets furnoture the cats, the lemon dissolves the waxy coating on the fleas causing them to dehydrate and die

Hey Lorraine you got wayyy more housework done than I did, by the time I got home all I could do was write my blog.. and at least people actually read yours! LOL I thought it was a fascinating journey through the mind of Lorraine myself.

The cascade of cleaning/rearranging reminds me of doing a sudoku puzzle. When you find that the 4 goes here in this line, that means that the 4 goes there in this box, which means the 8 goes here, and it all cascades down until the whole thing is filled in. My cleaning last night was not spontaneous. I kept to the task list, but at least got everything marked off. Sister's coming to visit. I must make the house presentable!

vampi, I am thankful I also have no carpet. No carpet, no vacuum. I finally gave up on area rugs, too, with the Very Furry Animals always making the rugs look like they needed a good brushing.

Glad Boss is well. Hope HE managed to kick Weird Sickness before travelling. Travelling sick is hard.

At 08:47 Blogger Jess said...

Well they all came out in the end, Q! Which must be the magic of me swanning off to bed without so much as a good-night. Great! We thought she'd never leave! Party! :D

Fai Fai, that's a good suggestion--I didn't know about the waxy coating on fleas. I might have to try that if the flea powder-and-comb method doesn't work. It's one of those "natural" flea powders--i.e., calcium (something)ate with a bunch of herbal oil extracts--which supposedly kills on contact. Hmm. So far this study seems to indicate that the control cat is scratching less than the experimental cat. Also, the experimental cat now smells unpleasantly of concentrated lemongrass, rosemary, and lemon verbena.

Marjorie - Dirt Devil Hand Vac ftw. Best thing for stairs ever. Only they don't seem to make them any more, at least over here. But we bought one over your way, once. They may still be around.

Hello M. Fablo and Fiends -- hope all are well. I've been reading about the Bengals in need of rescuing (such a huge fan of that type of animal work!!) and feeling sad that I can't help right now. Three dogs? One very old cat? Plus four people, all in a house that's less than 1200 square feet? Uhm, can you say "already too much fur flyin'"? Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, our local indie newspaper printed a great article about rescuing animals and/or adopting them from local shelters. And it included a sweet little story, told from the dog's side, and I've no idea who wrote it or when, but I'm going to post it here becuase I think y'all will like it too. (next post, though, cuz it's long!)

From The Chattanooga Pulse, 10-1-09 edition:

I rescued a human today.

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life. She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I pushed my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

That rearranging cascade sounds very familiar. It often hits me when I should be doing actual cleaning too.

Ordered a new modem, so should be back online at home in a few days. Meanwhile, back to work...

Morning!

Ugh. Cold. Rain. E-mail. Tea.

Going for a nice rode tho before work. Well, not BEFORE exactly, as I have been working for a couple hours.

Grace, lovely! Liked that.

The Wall Thing is active this morning. Venus is on it.

Pondering cleaning out the Doom that is my Closet tonight. (I have only one here in the Spooky House, those wacky Victorians) I know I have a lot of clothes in there that will now fit again.

Might happen. Stranger things have.

At 09:46 Blogger Bulfinch's Aglaia said...

Thanks, y'all. I thought it was sweet. :-)

Ugh on the cleaning -- necessary, feels great after, but I always dread it. But I have some days off due to fall break and yes, the closet was breached! I even got youngest son to go through his drawers and get rid of old, small clothes (he's growing like crazy!). So between us both, we have bunch o' clothes to take to the Good Will. So YAY for cleaning! GO FABLO, our fearless leader. :-)

Holy Crap - Check out the glowing eyes outside the window. That's Magic, right? I feel like those eyes are sucking my soul out of my body.

yay for sweet story.

Death to Wall Things!

I had a cascade of my own last night. Mostly based around the need to switch warm and cold weather things. I like my cascades. They don't happen too often.

At 12:40 Blogger ariandalen said...

Ahhhh, yes. The moving cascade that leads to a cleaning cascade. Sounds like you made it work!

It wasn't just the Victorians that didn't like closets. The house I grew up in was built in the early 1920s, and the bedroom closets were tiny. The people we bought the house from had taken part of the master bedroom and converted it to closet space, making it a walk-in closet, though not a large one. My brother and I had closets that were just deep enough to hang clothes in regular hangers and maybe 3' wide. Formal dresses were hung on over the door hangers that held multiple dresses outside the closet.
The house also had more windows on the outside than on the inside, and at least one interior doorway had been walled over, probably when the central air conditioning was installed.

I have a situation in which I need a foster home for two bengal sisters in Cleveland, OH. Due to a domestic problem, hospitalization, divorce, and now a move, the girls have no home. I have until tomorrow evening or they will be euthanized. I have no foster homes in OH. Please crosspost any way you can and keep fingers and toes crossed for the girls. Thanks, Janet

At 12:55 Blogger ariandalen said...

Grace, that is a wonderful story. And so often true. :)

We don't usually get invaded by ladybird beetles until December. Granted, that's because it doesn't get cold enough for them to bother before then. They come inside the house so we have to gather them up and put them outside. Otherwise, we'd have lots of dead ladybugs due to low humidity. Hibernation outside is good; hibernation inside, at least for ladybugs, is bad.

At 13:14 Blogger Lioness said...

I'm amazed at your energy. All that in an evening? I'm lucky to make a good dinner for myself when I get home.

Hi Haley, and welcome. That would be Robin McKinley who wrote Sunshine. All her books are lovely, but that is the best..
