Happier Post, In The Morning No Less!

Well, no, now that you ask, I do not know what Venus is after, or why Mim is sniffing her butt while she does it...They're Bengals, if you ponder long enough, you may figure out why they do the things they do. Or you may not. Generally, there is a weird sort of logic to it.

They are unhappy this morning. They got "Heart and Livers" for second breakfast. And did NOT like it. See? I can understand THAT. I Gave them to King Lear the Huge, who will eat ANYTHING, (Because he is HUGE, not fat, HUGE) and opened some Beef Feast for Venus and Mim.

(Indulging them? Surely you jest!)

I'm not very good at shooting horses yet, (Ok, that came out strange) but here's Dimil, called Dim, all wet and soggy. People at the Barn seem to like his new name, but mostly they call him "SpotImeanDim" which comes out kind of funny.

I'm still riding Maisie, and doing well at it. Skittery horse. A window was open three days ago, which was, apparently VERY SCARY, and now she does her Skittery Maneuver at odd times when ever she goes by it, remembering. I mean, it could come open again at ANY moment.

Today is important in that it is DAY SEVEN of my new diet and workout program (can't spell "excersize" in ANY way that spell check will recognize, if anyone knows, tell me) meaning tomorrow is Weigh Day. I'll tell you more about it later, if it works, but it is sort of based on an idea of "Eat Less, Move more". And the concept that if you eat more fruits, veggies, lean meats cooked right, and do NOT eat half a stick of butter on your pasta, followed by 3 or 4 cookies, every night, you may well drop a couple pounds a week.

I know, a fad, you say, will never work. If it was THAT easy, everyone would be doing it. We shall see.

That's mostly it for me this morning, wanted to move on, but first to thank you all for the love and support the last few days. It meant a lot.

Love and Light,
Lorraine

I think Venus might be looking for one of your special "mousies"...

Bengals and horses and diets oh my!

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm in the coffeeshop catching up on some reading, you see, and... well... drinking coffee. Lots of it. Possibly even too much.

Nah.

Nick's two-step diet plan:
1. Veggies or salad first.
2. No matter how much you want seconds of the main course, you must wait 10 minutes after finishing firsts. Usually by then your stomach has caught up to your taste buds and you don't want any more.

Works pretty well.

At 08:42 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Venus is looking for any treats you might have stashed in there, like steak. Because you never know where steak might turn up!

Was Dim out playing in the snow?

Good morning! Just leaving a hello before I head out. Sounds like the riding is going great, Q--can't wait until you can take Dimil out!

Great pictures. The slight blurriness of the first one of Dim makes him look all mysterious. And the purse deep dive is just plain cute.

I mean to join you in the FIT next week. Still recovering from the past couple of months. I slept almost all this weekend. So I need this week to grocery shop and next weekend to get stocked up on already made good food. If I start without that, I'm doomed by the second day (ask me how I know). The "move more" part is even harder. Walking home from work just never happens. Will try walking to work instead.

Work beckons now. Another pile of resumes to read. This time for a one-year cataloger. Part of the "OMF we got the grant!" shuffle.

At 09:47 Blogger Marjorie said...

I'm starting on the 'eat less, move more' plan just as soon as I get past the 'cough more, breathe less' plan I seem to be stuck with right now. I have had to admit that I don't seem to be beating it alone so am going to be seeing the Dr this evening & asking for antibiotics, which I hate doing.
But happy Bengal & Horse pictures cheer me up no end.

Open containers are like catnip - must always be investigated and gotten into. Never fails.

Weight Watchers works for me and I think it's because the detail work of counting food points pleases my accountant's brain. And writing down everything I eat. Amazing how that shows you what really goes into your mouth!

OSS - and quite right to plan ahead. Spur of the moment food is not usually the best :-) For taste, maybe, for health, maybe not.

Calvin at vet...waiting to hear why he has gone downhill so quickly in the last day or so. Hoping it can be fixed.

exercise!

something Bengals gets lots of! You never know "what" she heard moving down there in the depths of that bag, she'll get it tho! and defend her human. ^_^

Eat less, move more; worked for me. Course i had all kinds of stress too. Dropped 24 lbs. in 4 weeks and am not intending to gain it back.

Of course now i get told by an old school chum, "you used to have a nice ass, now you don't have one" told her it was nice to know that she was checking out the rearage and that "yes" i DID still have a nice ass, just my jeans are all TOO big now! and when you buy from thrift stores it takes awhile to find jeans that fit. ^_^

hears hoping everything evens out and is less stressful smooth sailing for all! Dimiel looks like he's enjoying his bath!

At 09:54 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

Because of my first day of substituting yesterday, I started on the "King Cake and home-made chicken tenders" diet. I don't think this will last long.

I'm hoping I'll have enough time to walk to the coffee shop down the street today before class.

Yay for Dim and becoming a more proficient rider. You're going to be great.

I wish I could find the secret to keeping my Will Power going strong.

i'm going on a cruise in march, so i'm trying to eat less. the move more is a bit of an issue with work , but i am also doing some of that as well.

Taking our kitty to the vet today for his checkup and a bath. He's 19, every trip to the vet is a bit nerve wracking.

You know what is a good way to move Lorraine? Hula hooping! I do believe there's one at the big house ;-)

OK, must start the day....after refilling tea cup.

At 10:53 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Well, that didnt' go well. Attempt one at getting the cat to take him to the vet went: run, hide, run other way, hide, stop, look at me and pee on the floor. Little shit. Will try again in a bit.

OK, I won the battle w/ my 11lb, 19yr old cat but just barely. Once I had him in my arms he succumbed. I do feel sorry for him, he's just scared. I bribed him with treats and scritches.

I wanted to share a link a friend of mine sent me.
This painting is in the museum of Shanghai. It was made during the Northern Song's Empire (1085-1145). It's over 5 meters long and only 25cm high. You can move alongside the action by moving the cursor and they have added little movies to illustrate some of the scenes (accessible by clicking on the squares).
Enjoy.

It is always nice to hear about the riding progress. When do you think you will be riding your Very Own Horse? ( I think the 18th C writers were correct when they capitalized whatever was important.)

An open window can be very scary. One never knows what may come in, or go out. I understand this fear. Love the horse tales.

Moving more and eating healthful food is a good way to live whatever one's size or shape.

At 12:43 Blogger Jess said...

What does it say about me that the first thing I wondered about that picture was why Mim was sniffing Venus's butt? No, don't answer that.

(Actually I read somewhere that they possibly do that to find out what the other cat's been eating-- i.e., if there's any new, good source of food around.)

Yeah, that half stick of butter on the pasta thing is a problem. Butter and parmesan on pasta is fantastic. I also have this problem with omelettes. And cheese. Love cheese.

Do walk everywhere, though, not enough to get back into half the clothes in my closet. Need a more serious Movement program.

Nathalie, that is amazing! Oh, man: if I had my way, the Night Garden site would look like that. This is why I keep asking if anyone knows any flash animators. Not that we can afford to commission a flash animator. :D

Hey, kids (and that also means all you new kids): speaking of Night Garden, if you haven't been getting the messages that have been going around, and you want in the loop, let me know. For some reason it looks like only about half the people on my list got the last thing I sent around; I have no idea what's going on there. Damn this newfangled "E Mail" technology.

Dude, this sucks. I had a wedding booked for a sunday in August and the bride just emailed me to say they split up for now! He's not ready for marriage. That's the first time I've had this happen since I started officiating. I've had a few couples divorce over the years but I haven't had a cancellation pre-wedding. Poor girl. I need to send her the deposit back.

At 13:37 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Mostly butter followed by cookies isn't good, and so healthy substitutes are not all that faddish.

Glad you are having a lovely time with the horses.

At 14:38 Blogger ariandalen said...

Dimil looks happy in your photos. :)

"Eat Less/Move More" really does work, though if I eat more food and less junk that works, too. I've found that, for me, accountability is a big factor in sticking to a "fit" program. I'm a member of a community on LJ where I have a weekly check-in. I started in August, and since then I have increased my physical activity, begun eating at least one fruit per day, begun pre-planning at least one meal per day, and as a result I've lost 15 lbs. Has it all been down? No; there have been losses, gains, and lots of staying the same. I report it all, and none of the people in the community does anything to undermine me, or anyone else. I got the idea to make eating at least one fruit a day from one of the other members, and it helps keep me from reaching for candy/cookies/junk.
For physical activity I started with walking for 30 minutes/1.5 miles per day, 5 days/week. That fell by the wayside when it got cold. My husband found a really good stationary bike in December, so I started riding it for at least 30 minutes/day, 5 days a week. We got Wii Fit Plus for Christmas, so I've been using it or the stationary bike for the last month. I like the bike because I can read and exercise at the same time. Wii Fit Plus is just fun, plus I can record any time I ride the stationary bike in my Activity Log. :)

Regarding the open window....
do read Temple Grandin's books Animals Make Us Human and Animals in Translation. I forget which one addresses horse and cow reactions to things like the window - or a reflection - or a shirt or blanket thrown over a fence. Horses are her most favorite animal. Both books are fascinating.

At 22:25 Blogger Ms T said...

Hah! And I'm reading this just as I'm trying to persuade myself to go the gym.

Which is all of 5 minutes away.

And my gym gear is sitting right next to me. :)

Maybe I'll just do a little cardio...

OSS, I know what you mean about having to lay in the pre-prepared healthy food. As soon as I get too tired, all my good intentions fly right out the window. Of course, they might find it a little more difficult to take flight I didn't face 3 pizza places, a hamburger place, a fish and chip shop, and a dairy (erm...convenience store?) right next to my home bus-stop!

At 22:39 Blogger Ms T said...

And in case anyone has formed any false impression from my last post, I should add that I am no delicate, sylph-like creature. I've just moved from being a complete sloth to very slightly less sloth-like. :)

Morning!

Must check that book out! Very cool!

You know, one of the best side things about riding every day is SLEEPING at night. I go to bed early, and don't even remember falling alseep and I stay that way, all the way thru.

No waking up and worrying! I love this.

Weigh day was good, got my 2. Might have been a bit more, as I used a different scale, and had just sort of picked my pounds from the last time I had checked, so that's all fine. We'll see in three more weeks. I think one needs at least a month to see if a New Plan is working or not.

Women go up and down so much, I think you have to get at least 10 before you can be SURE you are on the right track.

Feel great anyway, and didn't break diet once.

At 09:40 Blogger Jess said...

I had a doughnut. Sigh. The pleasure of doughnuts if fleeting, but the dough stays on your nuts forever, or something.

Oh, Phiala. I missed the post about your friend before. I'm so sorry. I know you knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it easier. Sending good thoughts your way.

Yay for Zora and Ziggy! I am liking the regular dose of Bengal cuteness. Ziggy and his paws od Doooooom. Yep, that works.

At 09:48 Blogger EmilyLady said...

You are a profound being, Jess.

I posted this on the other entry, but thought I'd copy it over here (and add a little) since L suggested posting updates on the most recent post:

If folks aren't too sick of getting follow-up comments on this blog post with Bengal rescue updates, I think I'd like to formally introduce everyone to the two Bengals listed here, who have been inhabiting my guest room bathroom for the last 5 days.

Both of their names honor Zoe, but especially Mama, now known as Zoraline (Zora for short), and her tiny baby Ziggy.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/kimberlyjennery/4308638142/

If you'd like to see them both in motion, including purrs, and baby-squeaks, and a little silly growling, please look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9HwsXTExTE

Warning: She growls a little in the video, and apparently it bothered a couple of people. I PROMISE that while she's not crazy about the camera, it really isn't bothering her that much - she growls while headbutting me for scritches, too. She seems to have growl in her general vocabulary. If that's going to upset you to see/hear (since the purrs aren't nearly as audible in the video) - don't watch it! She's doing great!

Actually - she can be a little bored with it all: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kimberlyjennery/4308909188/

Ziggy is doing a LOT better than he was a couple of nights ago. He nearly scared me to death, I swear! I'm glad I had the tools to help him so quickly (sub-q, formula, etc.) and that he responded so well, phew!

At 11:57 Blogger bengalgirl said...

Bengals sometimes growl for no real reason, just part of their vocabulary. Some growl while they chow on food, some also make a yum yum yum sound while they eat. One of my foster cats was a bit of a yowler like my Sam and her new owner called last night concerned about the weird noises she was making at 3 am. When I explained a bit he thought it was cool - thank goodness. Bengals make noise!
