WOOOO!!

At 11:21 Blogger Chantrelle said... #2

OK, just wanted to get in there first.

All those people who didn't know who hubby, ben and I were on the halloween before the movie release must feel silly now. OK, they probably don't but I can say I was an oscar nominated character. Not sure why I'd want to.

I need more tea.

At 11:21 Blogger spacedlaw said... #3

Congratulations and all.
Next: TEA. I think you'll need it.

At 11:25 Blogger Phiala said... #4

And probably not much time to say it in either!

Good luck with all the associated frantic assistanting.

Lovely news. Looks like the tuxedo will come in handy after all.

At 11:36 Blogger Lina M. Parra Ante said... #6

Congrats I'm so happy about the Oscar nom, I´m writing my thesis about Coraline and The Graveyard Book, so I feel it very close to me!
Greetings from Colombia, South America... I love cats too by the way :)

At 11:52 Blogger Marjorie said... #7

Very exciting!! And no doubt resulting in lots of work for the Fabulous One! I wonder whether anyone makes a special tea for this kind of occasion?

At 11:53 Blogger gaypet said... #8

Great news! Congratulations.

The painting is beautiful as is Bubba.

At 11:53 Blogger Jess said... #9

Yeeehaaa! Woop woop woop! \o/

Though I have to say (and I can't believe no one's said anything about this when it's been tweeted and all): what I'm really looking forward to is the Arthur thing. I watch Arthur, occasionally. No, I don't have kids. I just watch it. Because it's funny.

Hey, what else is a "self employed" girl gonna do at 4:00? Oh ho. Now it all comes out.

At 12:00 Blogger One Sock Short said... #10

Huzzah!

Hope the insanity that ensues stays at manageable levels.

At 12:01 Blogger Chantrelle said... #11

I missed the Arthur thing...what is it?

At 12:05 Blogger EmilyLady said... #12

This is marvelous. Go Coraline! One of the best movies ever. Really really really.

At 12:11 Blogger Jess said... #13

Chantrelle: the relevant chirp.

O tickyboo

At 12:43 Blogger One Sock Short said... #14

Kimberly, do you have to do anything to keep from going into a cute coma? Eat a dozen lemons a day maybe? These pics and vids are deadly. I can only imagine direct exposure.

At 12:46 Blogger spacedlaw said... #15

Jess. Write. Like insomniac non self employed girls do.

At 12:48 Blogger Siri said... #16

Hmmm....let the madness begin.....

At 13:00 Blogger Marjorie said... #17

I am not familiar with Arthur. Is it more or less of an honour than appearing in the Simpsons, or being a head inna jar on Futurama?

At 13:08 Blogger Jane said... #18

Congratulations on the nom.
And busy days to come...

At 13:40 Blogger Arwenn said... #19

Arthur is a very cute life-lesson sort of cartoon on public television. So not really on par with a Matt Groening nod but very cool nonetheless.

At 13:55 Blogger Kimberly said... #20

One Sock - no, I am pretty constantly in a cute coma! I come out of it every time he scares me half to death with a health issue, though - little bugger!

At least he seems to be responding, finally, to the meds for the cold. It was scarier when I thought it might be pneumonia - it sounded SO awful for a day or two! I'm just hoping he doesn't have a checklist for things to freak me out that he's working his way down!

But yeah, if I look at the HISS pic, or the synchronized yawns, or watch the nomming videos - I'm dead. And getting to pet his tiny little fuzzy head ... yeah, it's bad ;) He *fast* whapped me this morning! Only once, but he was SO hungry, and would not latch onto the bottle (frantic bottle babies can be stupid that way) and he WHAPPED me! I almost died!

At 13:57 Blogger Kimberly said... #21

Also - Congrats on the Nom!!! Here we are at the movie last year! http://www.flickr.com/photos/kimberlyjennery/3265072109/

At 13:59 Blogger AletaMay said... #22

Wee!

Hey Jess I watch Arthur from time to time as well. I really like PBS kids shows. I admit it. I really miss Between the Lions. Loved that show.

Hey Q, don't forget to breath!

At 14:47 Blogger Precision Grace said... #23

Congratulations on the nom (I keep thinking we are celebrating a particularly tasty dinner).

At 15:11 Blogger Dragonsally said... #24

*punches hand in air* woo hoo!

Now, to read the rest of the comments, ticky boxy and catch up on email and twitter

At 15:11 Blogger Dragonsally said... #25

ticky boxy...who signed me out overnight?

At 15:43 Blogger Precision Grace said... #26

umm, I know this isn't a cat thread, but as there are so many cat loving people, I thought some might enjoy a little vid of my cats making the cat food box their new playpen:

Warning: silliness is present

At 15:44 Blogger Ani said... #27

Yay! A nom is a fine and wonderful thing!

At 15:45 Blogger Ani said... #28

Kimberly, I am following you & Ziggy as much as I can, and indeed have been dying of the cute myself. Glad he has you right now!

At 15:51 Blogger One Sock Short said... #29

Thinking about how much Bengal rescue money could be raised if Boss could be talked into auctioning off the chance to go to the Oscars with him ;-) Just imagine *that* bidding war.

I suppose taking a daughter is the saner option.

At 16:19 Blogger Dragonsally said... #30

Grace, isn't it always a cat post here? I love the "MOM, I was here first look of disdain"

Poor Maddy, pipped at the post by her big sister.

At 16:40 Blogger Marjorie said... #31

Perils of having siblings!

At 17:13 Blogger Jess said... #32

Aleta - Between the Lions is gone? I had no idea. That makes me sad.

At 17:48 Blogger Laura B said... #33

That's awesome!

I didn't know Between the Lions was gone either. My daughter watches Arthur about everyday, so, that's super cool.:)

At 18:17 Blogger DataGoddess said... #34

Late to the party, as usual!

Have interesting lead on job (will be writing more on LJ under friends lock) haven't touched my current socks in over a week, and we're watching Groundhog Day.

This is not a day I'd want to repeat, however. Other than the Coraline nom!!!

At 19:39 Blogger Beez said... #35

Hoo-RAH! for the nom.

I imagine Maddy will rock the red carpet?

Really looking forward to the Arthur ep. I still hang out and watch PBS kids afternoon stuff with Spawn who is.....18. :D
Between the Lions is sad, return of Electric Company made me happy.

Ziggy is killin' me every time. I am one of the undead, keep coming back for more.

At 19:44 Blogger One Sock Short said... #36

Electric Company is back? Awesome!

At 19:48 Blogger Jess said... #37

Whatwhatwhat? The Electric Company is back?! :O That is quite literally several thousand shades of awesome.

At 19:55 Blogger Jess said... #38

OSS and I appear to be of one mind about this issue. :D

At 21:59 Blogger ariandalen said... #39

Yay!
IIRC, Maddy got to go to the Oscars for "Stardust." It's only fair that Holly gets a chance to go. :)

The new "Electric Company" is in its second season. Doesn't really resemble the original.

At 22:16 Anonymous Wendy Withers said... #40

Awesome!!!

I just finished watching "The Empty Child" episode where they meet Captain Jack. Except, I forgot how scary it was. :/

I have decided that I may now have a crush on Captain Jack. Wasn't expecting that.

At 22:16 Anonymous Wendy Withers said... #41

The previous comment was about Dr. Who.

At 23:29 Blogger Dragonsally said... #42

wendy, how could you NOT have a crush on Captain Jack/John Barrowman. He is drop dead gorgeous.

At 00:33 Blogger vampi said... #43

super wootwoot :)

tickbox.

this week is rough again.

At 02:08 Blogger Kimberly said... #44

You guys have to tell me. Is this the picture of the night, or this? I can't tell.

Even trickier question is picking between Zoraline and Ziggy having a conversation or more Ziggy self-grooming and marching around or Ziggy playing whappy paws inbetween grooming or this SHAMEFUL display of belly dots, and paws, and squeeful wriggling, as the video of the day. I really can't tell.

If you'd like to see what feeding the little feisty guy is like sometimes, especially if he's hungry, look no further! (There are several of them - that's just one... today was film day, apparently!)

At 02:08 Blogger Kimberly said... #45

OH! I forgot to warn you - all of the links I posted before - they're all deadly.

You've been warned.

At 02:14 Blogger Dragonsally said... #46

Kimberly
second photo
self grooming video, followed closely by feeding video

fave photo so far though is the synchronized yawn

At 02:18 Blogger Kimberly said... #47

Dragonsally - it's going to be REALLY tough to beat the synchronized yawns... for real!

He's growing! SO SO SO deadly cute!

At 02:48 Blogger spacedlaw said... #48

He looks ready to go and explore. And play. And even not a little mischievous... A real Bengal!

At 07:23 Anonymous Wendy Withers said... #49

Sally:

A few weeks ago, I wouldn't have said so. But, I've decided he's cute because I've started watching Torchwood. I think Barrowman's acting evolved. Or, it's possible it's because he has better hair.

Now, off to sub 2nd grade!

At 08:56 Blogger bengalgirl said... #50

Kimberley, Ziggy seems quite advanced for his tender age. Do you think that is because he is an only and has you as second mama? Lots of interaction makes for a sweet cat later on.

At 11:01 Blogger Unknown said... #51

Yay for Boss and movie!

Yay for Z&Z too! Ziggy is SO darn cute, and it also warms me to see how sweet mama is. Both of these cats will be loved and loving companions for their future people. Zora has surely been through a lot, but look at how sweet and loving she is (and she totally sees how Kimberly is being a good human mama to lil' Zig and appreciates it).

At 12:44 Blogger Rick W said... #52

Score!

At 13:04 Blogger One Sock Short said... #53

Yay, I got into the upcoming personal essay seminar at work. It won't start till April, which is good, because this month and next will continue to be insane with the hiring and training. If nothing else, maybe this class will be the nudge that gets me to revive the blog.

At 19:48 Blogger dabbler said... #54

Dead of cute. Excited for Coraline.

At 19:50 Blogger Jess said... #55

I'm on my last regeneration! Oh no, whatever will happen now?! :o

At 21:12 Blogger One Sock Short said... #56

Fell feet-first down a few concrete steps on my way to doing laundry tonight. For once, I did not skin my left knee. Instead I skinned the top of my right foot, did an unknown but significant amount of damage to right big toe, scraped the bottom of my left foot, and bruised or scraped left little toe. Oh, and pulled every muscle I have from the impact, I think.

Laundry is dangerous! Avoid at all costs!

At 21:17 Blogger Siri said... #57

Linda!!!! Owww... don't do that - clean clothes aren't worth torn ligaments....Poor thing. Pat pat pat.

Have to go look at this more cute stuff of which you speak. I shall not die - I'm having lunch with a favorite person tomorrow - I can't die!

At 21:22 Blogger One Sock Short said... #58

Siri, at least sit down somewhere cushiony before viewing the pics & vids from Kimberly.

At least I didn't rip off the right big toenail, which is what it felt like when it happened.

At 21:27 Blogger Siri said... #59

Sitting cushony indeed. Belly of doom....makes a body want a baby.

Then, a body remembers how much work they are, and trots off to bed!

At 21:57 Blogger Jane said... #60

OMG you poor thing! Really, clean clothes not worth it! Do you have ice packs and pain meds?

At 22:19 Blogger Dragonsally said... #61

OSS -ow ow ow ow. See, we should all have our own house elf so these injuries don't occur.

At 23:03 Blogger Ms T said... #62

OSS - Ow! Take care of yourself! The laundry can wait.*

I am dying from Ziggy's cuteness and spending far too much time checking out the latest updates. :) Thank you for sharing them with us Kimberly.(Especially since he shares a name with a much-loved, now departed cat of mine.)

And I am thrilled at Coraline's nomination (nom, nom, nom), but hoping that Lorraine has not collapsed under an avalanche of email.

*Unless you're me and almost at the Undies of Last Resort stage. Oh, that was waaay too much information, wasn't it? Perhaps I'll just get my coat and womble off home now.

At 23:07 Blogger AletaMay said... #63

OSS! Yicks. Take care.

At 23:28 Blogger Kimberly said... #64

OSS - ouch! Would you like Zoraline to kiss it and make it better?

At 23:51 Blogger Na said... #65

Oooh - missed this; w00t!

been off mizzin'. better now.

and teh deadly cutes. i'm thinking it's cumulatively deadly, as in, quicker-acting with each exposure to the cuteness.

Sock! must've missed this in tweets. Sorry for the ouchies - wishing you better quickly.

I love Arthur and Between the Lions, too. Wonder if there's any chance of DVDs for the latter...

Best wishes to Q and Kitty and Boss and Holly and all, with the anticipated madness!

At 00:19 Blogger Kimberly said... #66

I'm about to go feed Ziggy for the last time for the night, and I thought you guys might like to see what I'm likely to be dealing with:

Mr. Squawkbox himself, Ziggy the Zigmeister

Ziggy says, "What? You lookin' at ME?!"

At 00:47 Blogger Dragonsally said... #67

I'm going to miss these videos and photos when Ziggy is fully grown.

At 00:56 Blogger Kimberly said... #68

Dragonsally - you can pretty much count on me having kittens throughout the year - and me taking pics/video. And yeah, I'll miss Ziggy when he moves on to a forever home, too. For sure! These guys are *special*, and Ziggy especially so because of the scares he's given me!

At 01:00 Blogger Dragonsally said... #69

well phew, but really Ziggy = ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

At 08:01 Blogger dabbler said... #70

OSS, Ouch! You're supposed to throw the laundry down the stairs, not yourself!
Arnica cream for bruises and sore muscles works great...hope your less sore than you expected, today.

And I'm so glad that Zora and Ziggy are brightening these late winter days.

Me, I've got nothing but stuff I don't want to do. Taxes. Fafsa. Filing. Cleaning.

At 08:32 Anonymous Wendy Withers said... #71

Arrgghhh! I have an interview today with a principal of a school, and there's a 40 percent chance I'm going to be hours early, because I can't find where I wrote down the time of the appointment. I need Lorraine to come organize my date book and maybe stand over me with a whip while I'm taking notes so this kind of thing doesn't happen.

At 09:04 Blogger vampi said... #72

oh oss, i hope you are ok. that sounded just dreadful. this is why i make boy do the laundry.

so super excited, tonight a certain someone is speaking at ucla, and i has front row tix:) and i did not use any ticket-fu i went online and bought them like anyone else.

*twirls and sungs* to all

At 09:09 Blogger spacedlaw said... #73

I've always said that chores - as well as sports - were dangerous stuff.
I hope you recover soon.

At 09:20 Blogger One Sock Short said... #74

All the fiendly good wishes have done some good. Not to mention the Zoraline kiss. I'm not nearly as sore today as I expected. Still limping though. Darn these big toes and their role in balance-keeping.

At 09:33 Blogger Arwenn said... #75

I'm not sure about the whole walking upright thing sometimes, not sure it was a good idea.

At 09:44 Blogger Jane said... #76

But we do it so well :-)

At 09:49 Blogger vampi said... #77

arwen, that made me think of hitchikers guide, which has been on repeat in my car for the past week.
"many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. and some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the oceans."

At 09:53 Blogger Arwenn said... #78

I think that was in the back of my mind because I was actually thinking that swimming around all day sounds pretty good. Good catch - I need to reread those books.

At 11:19 Blogger Jess said... #79

I want to read those again, too. Reread the first four ages ago, but never got round to Mostly Harmless. Been so long I'll have to start all over, now.

Here is today's Tale of Mundanity: I goes to the doctor, and they gives me a tetanus booster. "I'm scared of needles!" I tells the nurse. "Then we'll be quick!" she says. "Get-ready-here-comes-a-big-pinch-one-two-three!" I get ready. Nothing. I hear a squirt. "And that's it!" she says. "Really?" I says. It's been an hour and my arm doesn't even ache. I think she just squirted me.

At 14:40 Blogger Jess said... #80

Whoa, major threadkill! (Note to self: don't mention tetanus.)

At 14:42 Blogger Phiala said... #81

I got my shot earlier this winter, so I'm safe.

At 14:55 Blogger spacedlaw said... #82

We all went rigid!
(Actually I was at my wine tasting course...)

At 14:57 Blogger Jess said... #83

Then let us skip 'pon rusty nails! We are SO immune.

At 14:58 Blogger Marjorie said... #84

We're just all worn out with the Oscar nom excitement, Jess.

At 15:06 Blogger spacedlaw said... #85

Actually... I haven't had a tetanus shot since... Oh dear, I can't remember. 1992, maybe?

At 15:10 Blogger Phiala said... #86

Well, I work on farms, so a regular tetanus shot is rather important.

It's a good idea in general, although if you have a puncture wound bad enough to need medical attention they will give you one routinely. Still, tetanus is hard to treat and potentially lethal, so a shot that will prevent it is a worthwhile personal investment.

At 15:15 Blogger Jess said... #87

I did it mainly because I can remember when the last one was. September 2000! I was a dewy-eyed newlywed. It was a special tetanus shot. :P

At 15:15 Blogger One Sock Short said... #88

I was busy at the Misinformation Desk, otherwise known as the Reference Desk when more experienced people are staffing it. But I did get to make an undergrad very happy (and very, very surprised) when I told him that he could request the 1638 map. He assumed that he would only be allowed to look at reproductions. One of my favorite things about working here -- these special collections are for everyone.

At 15:15 Blogger Kimberly said... #89

I was busy getting deadified by Z&Z ... he's cuter every day, I swear it!

At 15:23 Blogger Arwenn said... #90

Skipping the traditional prenuptial tetanus shots? Blasphemous!!

At 15:36 Blogger Marjorie said... #91

Well, on the cheery subject of medicine & marriage, I've read of people needing to get blood tests before getting married, in the USA. What do you tested for, and are you then not allowed to get married if you fail? (I could probably google this, but with all the knowledge of Fiend-dom why would I do that?)

At 15:37 Blogger Jess said... #92

Mine was post-nup. I'm very modern that way.

At 15:38 Blogger DataGoddess said... #93

The test required for a marriage license in Indiana is just to prove the woman has been inoculated against Rubella. I just pulled out my immunization records, no blood test required.

The requirements vary by state, though.

At 15:40 Blogger Jess said... #94

Marjorie, I've never heard of that. We did not have to get blood tests. Might be suggested to check out that no one has HIV, or other STD. But I don't believe it's prerequisite.

At 15:42 Blogger Arwenn said... #95

Blood testing was mostly for sexually transmitted diseases but it was also used to screen for Rh factor (+ or -) blood types. If the couple was planning to have children precautions needed to be taken if the father was negative and the mother positive in case the baby was negative (in which case her immune system might attack).

At 15:49 Blogger Marjorie said... #96

I always assumed it was for STDs, but I've mostly come across it in older novels, which are never specific on such subjects. The rubella & rhesus make sense too. (see, I knew fiends would give me new knowledge)

At 15:51 Blogger Arwenn said... #97

I should have mentioned, it was started in the 30s and has pretty much been phased out now, only a few states require testing. (I looked that bit up)

At 16:02 Blogger Unknown said... #98

Marjorie - varies by state. In Michigan you used to need one, then you didn't but had to sit through "STD awareness" class (in brief - Oh hai, there are STDs. Don't get one. If you get one, get treated. KTHXBAI.). Check your local jurisdiction.

I think I'm going to start the Church of Ziggy. What Would Ziggy Do? He would love, snuggle, snack and nap. He would not worry or have stress-related heartburn. I think this could be useful in my daily life.

At 16:15 Blogger Marjorie said... #99

HeeHee! I think maybe Ziggy is one of the manifestations of Fod...

At 16:19 Blogger One Sock Short said... #100

Lorraine (and other Bengal folks), is this a good representation of what Bengals sound like? It's so adorable! Phoebe is quite vocal, but most of the time she sounds like a creaky door.

At 16:24 Blogger dabbler said... #101

Hmm. When I got married, 30+ years ago, PA was still testing for syphilis... No idea whether they still do or not. Oh...google says no requirement for blood test, but must pay US$40-80 (depending, apparently on the county)or $90 if you want a "self-uniting/Quaker license (!). Cash only, it says. Interesting. And the license expires in 60 days....

At 16:27 Blogger Dragonsally said... #102

what is a self uniting licence? Sounds intriguing.

Nathalie, I chuckled at a French lady taking a wine tasting course. Isn't it in your blood?

At 16:29 Blogger dabbler said... #103

Ziggy is certainly a manifestation of Fod. May he never thirst.

At 16:30 Blogger Precision Grace said... #104

OSS that's so funny!

Actually, Tonks makes a very similar noise when he sees a bird. I am fairly convinced he and Mainie are of some type of Bengal ancestry but cannot figure out how much. For example, I see all Bengals have very thin short haired tails, whereas Tonks can fluff up his tail so it's literally bigger than he is - Very Fierce.
Is there any way to tell?

There are also some other lovely Bengal video's recommended next to that chripy Bengal one.

At 16:30 Blogger One Sock Short said... #105

Not sure about now, but historically, a Quaker couple was married if they declared themselves to be married. No officiating person or ceremony required.

At 16:31 Blogger Dragonsally said... #106

Thanks OSS, that splains it nicely.

Chirpy Bengal very cute - I watched Tysie to see her reaction when I played the video. She put her head up and looked.

At 16:35 Blogger dabbler said... #107

Sally, I think self-uniting means marrying each other without benefit of clergy... the Quakers do this in front of the congregation, but without a celebrant. Some of the other language in PA says:
"Marriages may be performed by:
Judges
Justices of Peace
County Clerks or their Deputies within appointing county
Persons appointed to perform the ceremony by a congregation having regular meetings in the state (i.e., ministers, pastors, priests, rabbis).

So the self-uniting license looks like it applies if the ceremony doesn't involve one of those officials. Looks like it would leave Chantrelle out in the cold, too, but I know I've been to wedding with officiants who didn't meet the criteria, so there must be ways to do it.

At 16:37 Blogger Precision Grace said... #108

Oh Oh you have to see this one - the cats are brilliant, but the range of climbing places available to them and toys is even more awesome!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ee32kM_m36c&feature=related

I have cat owner envy now.

At 17:14 Blogger Jane said... #109

I've been to one Quaker wedding. The congregation marries the couple. They are all witnesses and are supposedly the support group for the couple. V moving, I thought.

At 17:34 Blogger Kimberly said... #110

Ziggy blesses his followers in the Church of Ziggy!

Happy two week old birthday, Ziggy!

What do you guys think? Focus on video or pictures for his two week birthday? What would YOU like to see from your little saviour ;)

At 17:48 Blogger Dragonsally said... #111

Hmmm, in good Fiendish style I smell a fund raising t'shirt.

The Church Of Ziggy.

Kimberly, anything Ziggy warms my soul.

At 19:36 Blogger Unknown said... #112

His tiny paws have given us the benediction to go forth and love all furry creatures and obey all cats as though they were the Zig himself!

And now we will celebrate with warm milk and delicious fishy snacks and cheese (that's what my household manifestation of the Zig demands).

At 19:39 Blogger Jess said... #113

Aww! Ziggy needs a Pope hat. I'd 'shop one on him, except I'm all lethargic from inert tetanus bacteria.

No hurty arm. Just kinda bleh, which seems weird to me. Mr. Jess says it means the vaccine is working. I believe him, even though he is not a doctor. Because he is a MAN OF ARMCHAIR SCIENCE. That's good enough for me!

At 19:59 Blogger Dragonsally said... #114

armchair science

awesome.

At 20:06 Blogger gaypet said... #115

Coraline is on HBO right now. FYI.

At 20:17 Blogger Chantrelle said... #116

I just saw that Coraline is recording on Tivo. It looks for anything w/ boss's name in it and this is the first time it's recorded something! :)

At 20:19 Blogger Jess said... #117

Right. Here you go. Ziggy be with you all! WORSHIP HIM.

At 20:32 Blogger Kimberly said... #118

OMG Jess! LOL that's too awesome! I was actually looking for something to print out to make him a tiny little paper pope hat, but I can never beat what you did!

LOL!

I just came back from worshiping the little cutie - he was pleased to pose for yet-another-photo-shoot, especially since Aidon (my husband) came in and was able to take some that require an additional photographer :) I'll post them later :)

At 20:32 Blogger Dragonsally said... #119

*applauds Jess*

At 20:35 Blogger Jess said... #120

I'm glad you like it. I couldn't not put a Pope hat on him. And give him a Holy Glow.

Needs more heavenly choir.

At 20:38 Blogger Fiend-in-law said... #121

I need to find a fine academic institution which will accept me for a PhD in Armchair Science.

At 20:39 Blogger Jess said... #122

Popecat can give you one. Poepcat can do anything.

At 20:40 Blogger Fiend-in-law said... #123

I expect I shall need a pipe or something which I can demonstrate Armchair Science with.

At 20:40 Blogger Dragonsally said... #124

And a tweed jacket

At 20:41 Blogger Jess said... #125

He's ignoring Popecat! The nerve of him! :P

At 20:41 Blogger Dragonsally said... #126

I need some energy.

Does anyone have energy they can spare me?

At 20:44 Blogger Fiend-in-law said... #127

As an Armchair Scientist™, the best I can do is a picture of a caffeine molecule.

At 20:45 Blogger One Sock Short said... #128

What is this "energy" thing of which you speak?

Nope FIL, staring at it didn't work.

Ahh, so you need an infusion too OSS? I thought i'd take a nana nap, but the brain kept telling me about things I had to do. Damn brain

Arwenn, I think you've got the Rh of the mother and child problem backwards. If the mother is Rh- and the father is Rh+ the child could be Rh+ and cause problems for the mother.

Texas doesn't require a blood test any more, not for a long time. If two people, unfortunately only those of opposite gender, declare that they are married to each other before pretty much anyone, then it is considered a common-law marriage; no license required. There is no such thing as a common-law divorce in Texas. Don and I spent 11 years saying "We're -not- married," while living together. Now we've been married for 15 years.

Very tired, but quick Ziggy and Zoraline extra-special two-week birthday update!

Just a simple and sweet video of mostly Ziggy, with a little Zoraline from today.

A cute little pic of the little roly poly master and a lovely one of Zoraline and her pretty face.

Bonus comparison shot in my husband's hands. Remember how tiny he was the first time?

Happy two-weeks Ziggy! So glad you decided to stick around! :)

There are actually several more videos if you click through, and bunches more photos. Enjoy!

I went to a Quaker wedding once. The groom's mother was "in charge." Everyone there signed a huge wedding certificate, which had a kind of "counted crosswork" design with about two hundred signatures on it.

At 10:16 Blogger vampi said... #134

quaker weddings sound neat.
yeah, so i totally scrapped some paint off my car last night. i am so irritated. i hate driving in the area around ucla.

At 10:44 Blogger Chantrelle said... #135

My father-in-law sent this to me, you may have seen it before but i had to share ;-)

An Ode to Minnesotans ………

It's winter in Minnesota
And the gentle breezes blow,
70 miles per hour at 25 below!

Oh, how I love Minnesota
When the snow's up to your butt;
You take a breath of winter air
And your nose is frozen shut

Yes, the weather here is wonderful,
I guess I'll hang around.
I could never leave Minnesota,
'Cause I'm frozen to the ground.

At 11:45 Blogger Jess said... #136

And now those Minnesotans are sending their weather over here! Noooo! We don't want it! Abort send! Abort!

I ran out this morning just for bread and lunchmeat, in case we can't get to the store over the weekend. I'm stocking up on bread! And cold cuts! I've never felt compelled to stock up on cured meat before. WTF?!

Got wine, though. Everything's better with wine. Turkey sandwiches and shiraz for everyone! Woot!

At 11:46 Blogger Precision Grace said... #137

Um. What happened to Q?

At 11:49 Blogger Na said... #138

PG - I suspect the Oscars have happened to Q.

Mmm, turkey sandwiches and shiraz sounds good! Maybe with a thin slice of provolone for the sandwiches. And I've got these yummy salt-and-pepper potato chips... lunch at 11?

At 11:49 Blogger Na said... #139

On pain pumpernickel.

At 11:51 Blogger Phiala said... #140

I'm hungry too, let's have lunch now.

Mmmmm... leftover white bean and kale soup, with homemade bread. And some of Jess' wine, please.

At 11:54 Blogger Na said... #141

Rats. No turkey, cheese or wine. But I've got the chips, and the pain. That soup sounds delicious, Phiala.

At 11:58 Blogger spacedlaw said... #142

Our Lorraine is most likely swamped by Oscar fever, alas.

At 11:59 Blogger Jess said... #143

The shiraz is Fat Bastard, because I've always wondered what a wine called Fat Bastard tastes like. The label has a happy hippo on. I figure I can do worse than get turned into a happy hippo.

Phiala, it's 1:00. Eat!

At 11:59 Blogger Phiala said... #144

It's yummy. But I realized when going downstairs to heat it up that I had fully intended to go to today's seminar. It started 45 minutes ago.

Argh.

Argh is the word of the day.

At 12:00 Blogger spacedlaw said... #145

Oh and I'd LOVE some Shiraz. Please? Pretty please with cheese on top?

At 12:01 Blogger Phiala said... #146

Yes, Jess: I forgot both lunch AND the seminar. Sigh...

At 12:05 Blogger Na said... #147

I would like to clarify that I do not in fact have rats. Except of the plush toy variety.

Also, sadly, nothing with bubbles in except a soda. But it does have caffeine!

Phiala, is this a Friday that feels like a Monday? At least it is indeed Friday!

At 12:06 Blogger Jess said... #148

Cheese on top? Floating in the wine like a crouton? Eurgh!

Times like these call for soup, Phiala! Choose lunch.

Next time my CSA loads me down with a pile of yucky kale, I'm making that recipe.

At 12:07 Blogger Jess said... #149

Too late, Na. We know you have rats. BUSTED.

At 12:10 Blogger One Sock Short said... #150

Jess, Jess, how can you use the words "yucky" and "kale" together?

At 12:13 Blogger Na said... #151

Do not! Anyway, if we did - and I'm saying we do - but if we did, I would absolutely not be consuming one for lunch.

Although there is one of Ms. Snellings' rats I very much desire.

Akchurly - I don't think there are rats in this part of the world. Very few insects, no reptiles, about one species of amphibian. Now I have to go find out ...

At 12:15 Blogger Na said... #152

I so love the internet.
Keep Alberta rat-free

At 12:15 Blogger spacedlaw said... #153

Caos came in, soaked and muddy.
That cat used to be red and white.
Now he is a reddish shade of mud on mud. And wet.

At 12:34 Blogger Jess said... #154

OSS: Why, quite easily! ;D And I say that after having tried. Really tried!

Uh oh. Bathtime for Mudcat! Get out the big gloves and salad tongs.

At 12:36 Blogger spacedlaw said... #155

Nah. He's wet enough. I'll let him dry and give him a good brushing afterwards.

At 12:40 Blogger Jess said... #156

I suppose you named him Caos for a reason. ;)

Pfft! Alberta Rat Patrol! There's a hit TV series just waiting to be made.

At 13:59 Blogger One Sock Short said... #157

Points for effort then, Jess. I must confess that no matter how much I try, I've never learned to like avocados.

At 14:07 Blogger Marjorie said... #158

Rat onna stick - 1p
Rat with ketchup - 3p

Acocados - yum
Kale - take it of leave it.

Also, this week has been going on for about 100 years, but now it's 8 o'clock on Friday night, and I have a glass of wine and Dr Who on the TV...

At 14:13 Blogger Phiala said... #159

I agree, Marjorie, this is an interminable week. But it's only 3pm. And the snomg is due to start any minute. The sky is already that flat white that is obviously made of nothing but snowflakes waiting to cascade down on me.

Oh wait, it is snowing. Gently, sneaking up on me unawares. That's going to change, probably right about the time I leave to walk home.

At 14:42 Blogger Marjorie said... #160

Oh dear. Would you like me to have a glass of wine on your bahlf, until you can get home yourself?

At 14:56 Blogger Phiala said... #161

Marjorie, that would be very helpful. Thank you for the self-sacrifice.

Jess, are you buried in snomg yet?

At 17:09 Blogger Jess said... #162

Been snowing here like a bastard since 5:00, but we're not buried yet. There's barely an inch on the ground. Most of it still seems to be melting when it hits, which makes me happy. Though I doubt it'll last.

Leeky tater soup tonight! And wine. Dr. Who would make things more civilised (Mr. says that's a very civilised evening you're having there, Marjorie), but I think it's going to be Red Dwarf. We like Red Dwarf. It's silly.

At 18:27 Blogger Phiala said... #163

It's about the same here, except for the soup. Here it's currently beer, chips and salsa.

And hairballs, just around the corner in the house, before you reach the lightswitch, but after the point where snowy boots are removed.

Have I mentioned that the word for today is "Argh"?

And Nick just got home, and told me that he bought a laptop today, with money given to him by his parents for another much more important purpose.

Argh.

At 18:31 Blogger Chantrelle said... #164

Tonight is pizza-popcorn-movie night.

Which for us "grown-ups" means pizza-popcorn-wine night and if the kids picked a good movie, maybe we'll watch ;-)

At 18:51 Blogger AletaMay said... #165

It has been snowing here all day, but not very hard. It is warm enough that it is not bad driving on the main roads. East coast US folks, stay safe and warm.

I am reading, writing, doing a bit of work related tasks and drinking a lovely hot buttered rum. I think there will be pasta a bit later.

OSS how is your foot toe stuff?

At 19:02 Blogger One Sock Short said... #166

Mmmm, hot buttered rum. I'ts wine here tonight.

I'm a bit better, thanks Aleta! Left foot is all good now. Right big toe is the main injury. Very bruised, at least. Ankle sore, probably from all the limping. I'm sure the wine will help all that ;-)

At 19:05 Blogger AletaMay said... #167

Yes, the wine will help!

At 20:42 Blogger FabulousLorraine said... #168

HEY! I's Friday and I am back!

New post, not an exciting one, but still a new post.

More interesting one tomorrow if I catch up on sleep...
