Some Good Things....

Rode Horsie AnnaMontana tonight and got cheers from my trainer. I am using my BUTT and sitting back so far my abs are challenged. (this is a good thing) You wouldn't THINK so, but the further you sit back, the more in control you are. It's way easier.

I also have the hang of sort of squeezing my BUTT on the way up, and legs on the way down while trotting. Between the abs, and legs, I believe I have discovered the origins of the Thigh Master AND the Ab Cruncher. (very good thing)

Then I did ground work with my own personal Horsie, Dim, I am taking it over now, and doing it all. (this is also a good thing) That has to do with a thing called lunging, where the Horsie sort of walks, trots and canters (and in Dim's case, bucks a bit and goes wild, like his desert ancestors, we're working on that) in a circle around you. You also have a Really Long Whip, which Horsie THINKS could smack him at any point. Interesting sport.

The trick to it is to stay in control of the horse, keep him from tangling himself in either the Really Long Lead or the Really Big Whip AND as you are sort of spinning around in a circle, to do this and not get so dizzy you fall to the ground and watch the room spin. (pretty cool thing)

On another note, remember a few weeks ago when I drank a LATTE before going out to the stable, and my head nearly exploded? Well, tonight I made an interesting discovery. I really wanted something yummy, as I had neglected to recall I would, say, want DINNER, and there was no time. I kind of, oddly enough, had liked the taste of the LATTE thing, but not the head exploding effect of all that caffeine.

Here's the secret: They can make this stuff DECAF!

No. Seriously. Decaff Skim no sugar vanilla au lait.(My new favorite thing) You just, apparently, have to know how to order. All the lovely indulgence, with no calories OR head exploding caffeine. Won't have it often mind you, but sometimes a girl has to let GO.

And finally, I have been on my new Plan, of Eat Less-Move More (more or less, more like eat RIGHT move more) for nearly three weeks now. I have lost eight pounds.

This is the best of the Good Things.

Love and Sleep Now,
Lorraine

Sleep is good - may be having snowmagedden here - not looking outside. 8lbs less of you to love - good on you.

Or, more correctly, good off you.

It's not *quite* no-calorie, skim milk still has calories. And you do need some calories for energy!

There is a horse trainer show on late at night on one of our PBS stations. I've seen him doing that thing with the wipe and teaching people to do it. Very cool. Love seeing this piece of your life open up in such a lovely way!

Way to go with the FIT. I knew riding was quite the workout; now I see why. That's a lot of muscle work. Dim is looking great too.

Congratulations! What great discoveries! And what a handsome Arabian fellow you have there. My Arab is a little portly in her old age (26 in May) and never had a dishy face, but boy-howdy can she prove her "hot-bloodedness" at the drop of a hat!

And congratulations again on the 8 pounds. That is, I have heard, the weight of the human head...

Well done that woman! :)

At 00:09 Blogger Trisha Wooldridge said...

Lunging is so much fun!! I end up loving it as much as riding, tho' I work for a horsey rescue, so most come in needing lunging before any riding can be done.

Congrats on the weight loss!! :) Riding + Lunging = LOTS OF MOVING/EXERCISE!! If you get to play in a round pen w/o a lunge-line... and free lunge, even MORE fun + running (minus the tripping hazard... I have a mustang that enjoys laughing when I inevitably trip over our lunge line.)

At 00:12 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Good on you!
Although I must say that your latte vanilla has calories in it (from milk and vanilla syrup) but much less than the normal kind.
But calories are okay.. You do need them to survive, in particular in the cold.

Yay decaf and horsies!

I have come to the realization that I don't have a kitten, I actually have a very small and furry DUCK! Ziggy's little quacks are about the cutest thing EVER!

Also, Zoraline wants to PLAY with her baby.

And a trifecta of kitten cute: whiskers, nose, fuzzy ears, and deadly claws ... wait, that's a quadfecta! Just click it ;)

I'm sorry I've probably exceeded many of your regeneration capabilities - we'll probably just have to continue in zombie mode ;)

At 03:59 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I am following all the kitty's adventure of Flickr and they make my days! I like that Zoraline wants to play (she must be quite young herself).

At 04:01 Blogger Kimberly said...

@spacedlaw yeah, the shelter paper-work says 1-2 years. Honestly, I'd be surprised at 2, and agree with the lower end of that estimate. She's past kittenhood and teenagerhood, but not by much, if I'm any judge.

Yeah - hanging out on my flickr stream isn't a bad idea if you need your Ziggy fix QUICK ;)

This time drugs have definitely been consumed. Next a hot shower, and finally some caffeine, and I'll be entirely recovered.

So... Friday night we were predicted to get 4-8" of snow and received 14".

Tonight we are predicted to get 8-12". I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean 21" of snow, but may mean a whole lot more shovelling. A day at home would be nice - I could actually get this manuscript revision finished (working at home can be so effective) - but my boss (who doesn't approve of working at home) also doesn't approve of snow days. We can take vacation days without prior approval if the weather is too bad to commute in.

Okay, I'm babbling parenthetically. Time to go stand in the shower.

Having fun AND losing weight? Good for you!

Lunging a horse? I know so little about this - off to the Internet to read more about it. I think I have a good mental picture from your description, but want to know more.

Kimberly, haven't looked at the new pictures yet but they are definitely a part of my morning routine :-) And Steve looked at Zoraline and noted that she has the worried cat look sometimes. Since she's safe now, it's kind of cute. But sad that she ever needed it...

Spending the day with Mom, lunch and eye Dr - she has macular degeneration and Dr looks at her retinas and tries to preserve as much of her sight as he can - she's lost a lot already but he has been able to do some amazing work on her, IMO.

Well, yes of course it has SOME calories. The trick is COMPARATIVE calories. Skim sugar free small vs medium or large whole milk/cream sugar syrup.

Eggs w/ spray vs cooked in butter.

Pasta w/ healthy sauce vs oil.

Personal pan veggie pizza w/ half cheese vs big meat eaters.

Tea w/ stevia and unswetened soy vs milk and honey.

Huge salads w fatfree dressing vs blue cheese.

Eat what you LIKE but make it LESS calories.

You will see, on St Pats when we live broadcast, I am on track for -20 by then.

At 09:38 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Good morning!

Quantities are also important, but reductions should be gradual to allow the stomach to return to a normal size.

At 09:38 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Trisha, good on you for the horse rescue! People forget that they are neglected as much as cats and dogs (or anything else) and few people have the resources to help with horses.

I wish we had a round pen! We have an indoor arena, and an outdoor one (for the summer, which is still a long way away, sadly)

May be feeling confident enough to ride Maisie again tonight. She is such a brat.

Actually tho, it may be more if I get out there before it is dark. Catching her in the huge cold dark pasture is not very fun.

At 09:48 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Morning Nathilie...You miss my point tho, I eat as much as ever, and I am not hungry, I just changed WHAT I eat.

If I have to go for fast food, it's not a Big Mac, fries and a coke. It's grilled chicken salad, baked potato, water.

Dinner out would be salad, steak and steamed veggies. Not pasta w/ cream sauce, deep fried app. and bread w/ butter before.

It's still really early, only been three weeks, which isn't enough to say, but the indicators are good.

At 09:50 Blogger Jess said...

Woot, woot, and woot! All fine things indeed. Dim is looking perky and happy!

Latte sounds good. Calories, schmalories-- I watch fat grams instead. Which...is why I weigh more than I should. :/ But on the bright side, I gain it veeerrry slooowwly. Learned from my doc last week that I've only gained 7 pounds in the last three years, and that it's taken me twelve extra years to get up to what my mom weighed when she was 23. So, still too much, but, erm, yay me for taking my time about it?

Maybe not.

We're either due for an extra 10 inches (snow, not bum sizes), or nothing. They can't decide. The local weather guys have decided to compensate by spreading the ten inches out over the next three days. I guess I can handle that-- if it happens in easily shovelable amounts. We're still stuck, though! Mr. Jess attempted to drive in to work this morning, and gave up halfway through. (Fine by me. I like having him here.)

HALF-Caffeine coffee and low sugar chocolate soy milk. I could live on the stuff!
I first got called fat in the third grade and have been on every diet there ever was. Here's what it comes down to:
Avoid:
High Salt
All Trans Fats
Refined Sugar
Refined Flour
High Fat
Corn Products
Enjoy:
Low Fat
High Fibre
Whole Grain
Veggies!
Lean white meat
Nuts
Peanut Butter (natural or w/honey)
Lower fat dairy
Fruits
Omega Eggs
POPCORN- try Black Jewel
Limit:
Cheese
Potatoes
White Rice (try brown)
Regular Pasta (they make it with fibre now...)
As far as fast good goes, there is only ONE answer: SUBWAY

Good for you and your horse! I can't get the Cats or the Bees to do so much......tho baby Rio cat is leaping through the snowdrifts this morning, I'm NOT likely to join her. (even the shop cat has snuck in the house today) It'll have to be a yoga dvd.

Of course, on my main Twitter it's pointless to reply to anyone like Q or Boss, since they can't see them because my tweets are locked. So I just reply to those who can see me.

Wendy, there's nothing wrong with being 'boring'. If you don't feel like partying, there's no need to. I'm all about doing the things that satisfy me, rather than what everyone else is doing. I also shake my cane at tell the kids to get off my lawn ;-)

The medical drama here at Chez Jess continues: I had to get a stitch this morning! In my finger! Due to jabbing it with a kitchen knife whilst trying to slice toast! :O

I am hurty, but I will live. Knife safety, kids. That's all I gotta say. Don't use a pointy fillet knife to slice a loaf of stale bread with nuts and raisins in. Ow ow ow ow ow ow. Also, I am lucky there was a doctor's office open within walking distance. FOR IT IS SNOMG.

I hope everyone has tea now. Mr. Jess is sad bacuse he's down to twelve tea bags, and the place he buys his tea from is shut (from SNOMG).

Twitter is weird. Half the time it feels like crashing a party I wasn't necessarily invited to. The other half feels like belming into the darkness. Mmmnngh. Then there's a tiny sunny patch with all you lot in. That bit's nice.

At 13:55 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Stale bread is a killer. It is way too easy for the knife to ripped from it. And of course there is the case of the social faux pas: Filleting knife of course should only be used for that. Not cutting bread. So it probably exacted a revenge for the slight of being made to attack an old load.

Dear Lorraine and Fiends,

My next door neighbour is a 16 year old outdoor only cat. Recently, his fur has gone from grey to brown. He walks at least four miles a day as far as I can track him and is no longer grooming himself. I have seen him nearly hit by busses and cars on many occasions. I know he gets food from around the neighbourhood but he still looks gaunt. He probably has worms...again...
I have treated the guy for fleas and worms in the past. This time it's worse. I believe if he became an indoor only cat with lots of vet care, he could live for many more years. I can't do that.
I know if I call the humaine society, they would put him down. There is no non-kill place in my county. This guy needs help. Do I call the humaine society and let him go before a car hits him? Do I let him be because he is my neighbours cat?
Do I do something else?
Please give us your thoughts.
MUCH LOVE,
yerseester.
