News of the Day....

My comment was getting so long that I thought I might as well make it a brief newsy little post.

Last night when I got home from riding, late, after nine it was, after being at work since that morning, Venus and Mim came running up to the CAR! Mewing and telling me all sorts of things, one after the other in a jumble of mews.

This is bad, as Bengals do not get to go outside off leash. (Yes, they do leash walk, it's pretty darn cute) Their Scream Porch is very secure, but I'd left a Sun Room window open, and they popped that screen right off and out they went for Adventure Day.

Scary. I live in town, and they gots no clue. Most of my neighbors know my cell, and will call if they see them out (It happened once before, so I took steps) but no one must have seen them, so I had two wet kind of nervous Leopards greet me at the car.

On the up side, Venus ATE. I'd opened a cheaper can for Lear, who eats anything, and she DOVE into the thing. Then moved onto chicken. This is good as she is getting really skinny, and is going to the vet tomorrow. She looks like a Hollywood Actress, big head, lots of legs and teeny little stick body.

On horse news, sadly, Dim's back is bad again. I haven't been riding him, so that's not it, he's going to go to another farm and Mel is going to really work with him, build up some muscle and get him working correctly. We have some good hopes for him being just fine, but he needs work, and more than I can do for him.

It looks as tho I am trading with the Gentleman who owns the second farm. He has a horse that needs the sort of work I can do. It's Chanell, the horse I rode the other day. I'll take her and pay board, and work her, and they will take Dim for me, and Mel will work him. Ought to be a win-win situation, and when I get Dim back, he will be FIT.

Like me.

In other News, here's an interview I did for the Irish Scifi/fantasy Con, Octocon that I am going to in October: Read it HERE. Very exciting.

I think that's all the News for today.

Hope your day is a fine one!

Love and News,
Lorraine

fun interview!

sorry about dim, but this will be good for him. is the second farm far away, will you be able to visit?

so glad the bengals stayed close and are not hurt. but i do wish they could talk and tell us of their adventures:)

Oh poor Dim! And poor Quiche! I know that must be hard for you to be separated from your horsie soulmate. Will you be able to go and visit him there?

I have the interview open, but MUST get some work done and get the youngest to the doctor. Her fever got to 103.5 yesterday. I was almost in a state of panic until the motrin kicked in and brought it down to 102. *sigh* And of course because my body is what it is, I feel it starting to hit me. *double sigh*

Oh, less Doctor Who than anyone on the planet? I haven't even watched a single episode! And that's a great interview ... I could feel you right next to me.

I like the remark about the Hollywood actor ... lots of legs and huge head ...

At 10:24 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I will be able to visit him, they are good friends, Mel has lots of horses there, and that's where we TRAIL RIDE, so I will see him lots, not to worry.

Off to work, I am going now. Not that I have BEEN working away at e-mails, but it's the going IN time.

If you're looking for old graveyards in Ireland make sure you drive Kerry yourself! I did and stopped to explore every old overgrown graveyard there was. We saw human bones! Hooray!

Glad to see no harm came to the kitties on their Day of Adventure. Like when my Siberian gets out. She has NO street smarts at all.

Dim will heal and you will help Chanell and this is all good, if difficult.
So much is possible as it is spring.

At 11:24 Blogger Marjorie said...

Poor Dim. But glad he is being properly looked after and that you will still get some riding.
And glad too that Venus & Mim came to no harm. Tybalt will I think be visiting the vet again soon as although the sore place on his belly is better, the ones on his shoulders are not. Poor cat looks decidedly motheaten at present.

At 11:29 Blogger Jess said...

Beasts on the loose!! Run for your lives! Bit like this.

Saw that interview this morning! It is a fine interview. Though I knew a lot of that stuff. Which, as I'm your Best Stalker, is only to be expected.

(Hey, prune these lilacs out here, will ya? It's getting hard to see inside. *rustle*)

Poor Dimster! I hope he feels better soon.

At 11:54 Blogger Uisge said...

Oh-good video!

I had a similarly scary experience when I woke up last Thursday and discovered my cat boys had popped a screen and were scampering about on the roof of the house. Not being too bright, I feared them jumping off to try to catch a bird or squirrel. Luckily, I lured them back in with a crinkly treat bag and promises of chicken jerky. Then I had my heart attack.

So - How does one cat proof screens to prevent this from happening again?

At 12:30 Blogger Phiala said...

I had the screen thing happen once. One cat got out by mistake, then frantically circled the house trying to figure out how to get in. The other cat circled the house from the inside hissing and yowling. "You left! This is my house now and you're never getting back in!"

So I'm in Georgia. I haven't gotten Nick on the phone yet, but got an email from him sent at 1am saying that his father's Alzheimer's had gotten much worse in just the past couple days, and that he was going down to their house (dad is still at home with mom) then to help out.

Alzheimer's sucks. Majorly. And this is not good, and I'm out of town.

At 12:38 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Oh, this is good fun, the plague PLUS low blood sugar is really a rip-roaring good time, folks. I had to stop teaching William his schoolwork early today. He nodded wisely and said, "I understand." Yes, I'm sure. I think he was probably jumping around like a happy leetle maniac inside when I said I was all done teaching ...

At 12:43 Blogger Laura B said...

Great interview!

Cats are amazingly good at getting in and out of screens. We had some strays for a while that would bust into our back porch regularly.

Phiala, Yes, it does suck. *hugs*

Emily, feel better soon.

At 13:31 Blogger Marjorie said...

Phiala - that does suck. Sorry you're so far from home ((hugs))

Well...at least they knew th sound of your car. ::sigh:: Seems like Mim and Venus want to make escape an annual event.

{{{{Phiala}}}} No fun. No fun at all. :(

At 14:26 Blogger Jess said...

Sod's Law, First Corollary. :( Oh, Phiala, that's rotten. Good that Nick can be there, at least.

At 16:06 Blogger Precision Grace said...

Oh dear. Glad Venus and Mim are ok. And Dim. Or that he will be.

I'm having a terrible day today. Mostly I think it's due to PMT but it's industrial strength bad. pah

Just had to share - last night, after all that excitement following HOTR announcement - I had a dream that was there, and had met Q and it was all going fine but then I said something and Q got really mad at me and insisted I write an apology letter to her sister (Who I'd apparently offended) and both of them had blonde hair and blue eyes and looked really alike but nothing at all like Q actually looks like nor anyone I actually know.
It was very stressful. LOL

Hope everyone's day, evening, night etc is TONS better than mine had been.

Catch ya all again on the upside.

Healing and comforting thoughts to Phiala and family, Emily, Grace, Cecily Jr., and any other Fiends in need. Including our four-legged family members.

At 16:38 Blogger Jane said...

Sad when the cat's day out leads to the human's heart attack. My cats (when I have any) NEVER go outside except for the very rare escape. And then they never know what to do. So glad yours are safe and Venus ate.

Also glad Dim will be cared for and you have a horse to ride. Sounds like a fine plan to take care of everything.

And Phiala - Alzheimer's seriously sucks. Both my parents-in-law had it and as they lived near us and Steve's sisters live in UT and CO, we were the caretakers. Requires superhuman patience. And the ability to make some hard choices. Sorry you have to find out...

At 16:54 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Phiala -hugest of hugs for you, and Nick. Hard road.
Emily, you take care, Cecily, hope your daughter gets better quickly.

Quiche, so glad Venus and Mim were there safely greeting you. I'm a nervous wreck if Tysie ever gets out.

Thanks all. Finally got ahold of Nick (I've been in meetings all day), and they're adjusting his meds and that has helped. No longer aggressive anyway. Looks like everything is as good as it can be, which isn't all that good but better than it was or could have been. Sorry if that doesn't make sense - I'm waaaay tired.

Interestingly, David doesn't recognize his children most of the time, but he invariably recognizes Grendel.

At 00:26 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Poor Dim; I hope he can recover.
Looks like the bengals did not enjoy their outing so much that they'd want to repeat the experience in a hurry.

At 08:28 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Morning!

I was so tired last night. Went to bed. (This will get more exciting as the tea kicks in.

GMAmerica says the average AMerician drinks 450 calories of soda a DAY. How? Isn't that like four cans a day???? Do people DO this?

They are talking about taxing it. ONE CENT AN OUNCE. An extra 12 cents a can. Your average fast food meal will go up 32 cents a meal. That will put a stop to this soda drinking.

The gods forbid we stop selling it in schools and bring back gym class every day.

Sorry, need more tea, just thought it was weird.

At 08:31 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Now GMAmerica has moved on to "Our Friend the Tapir" I'm ok again...

At 10:13 Blogger EmilyLady said...

/random Bill Bailey lyric

I don't drink soda, so I'm safe. Juice from concentrate all the way! My teeth will rot soley by fruit-derived sugars.

You know what I wish they'd sell over here? Squash. Much cheaper than buying two-liter bottles of stuff every week.

Ramble ramble. Good morning.

At 12:07 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I hate soda, quite frankly!

I am going to the doctor today. Hopefully this is NOT pneumonia, because that would be soooooo not fun.

At 12:07 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Not that it's fun now but STILL, pneumonia. No thanks. Probably bronchitis like last time. Oh well.

At 12:08 Blogger Chantrelle said...

tick tick.

At 12:34 Blogger ariandalen said...

Phiala, you made sense. Glad you were able to talk to Nick. {{{Phiala}}}

A 12 oz can of soda has around 200 calories, mostly due to high fructose corn syrup. Not only does it add extra (empty) calories, the caffeine in many sodas slows calcium absorption in your body, and the phosphoric acid leaches calcium from your bones. Not a good combination.

Public schools, at least in Texas, haven't allowed sodas for several years. Ariane and Seren have P.E. four days a week. The fifth day they have Art. They also have recess if it's not muddy outside.

Emily, keeping fingers crossed you don't have pneumonia!

Miss you all - home soon.

At 07:18 Blogger Hellie said...

Lots to catch up on...in between working I've been house hunting like crazy - we had an offer accepted on a lovely place earlier this week!

{Hugs}Phiala, alzheimers is sucky, so much sympathy for you. And Emily, hope you're feeling much better.

Great interview Lorraine! I highly recommend a trip to see the mummies in the crypts at St Michans (you can stroke the mummified Crusader's finger for luck!) So who is planning a trip to Octocon to say hi?! Last years Fiendfest was a little far away for me to make but Dublin isn't far away at all! Oh and the hotel is really close to one of the best places in Dublin for live music, Whelans - I stayed in a hotel around the corner for that reason last year.

At 08:50 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Morning! Cold ugh bed sleep!

Or get up and work. Right.

I got to work really early yesterday so I could get a jump on things and worked so hard I never noticed twitter, which is generally how I know Boss is awake and ready for tea. He finally came down thinking "WHAT is with her, she is really LATE, grumble grumble!!!!!!"

We laughed because I had been working so hard I forgot to look at twitter and thought he was sleeping late!

At 09:41 Blogger Jess said...

You need to install a klaxon warning system type thing. The you could just leisurely press a button at your desk, and everyone would know you'd arrived.

Morning! Warm ugh up cough cough.

I made my own tea. I am liking this new electric kettle. My chai has never been Properer. Mmm, Proper Chai.

Cannot go to Octocon.* Cannot go to the Low Key Gathering. You fiendses will have to tell me how it all goes.

_________

*They should call it this not for the fact that it's in October, but because of the many live octopus attractions which surely must be involved.

At 09:47 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Aren't there live Octopus attractions? I mean, that was why I said yes...

At 09:51 Blogger Jess said...

For your sake I hope there are Octopus Attractions.

At 10:13 Blogger Marjorie said...

I am Octocon-ing. Would love to LowKey, too, but there's no chance of that...

At 10:19 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I ASSUMED there would be Octopi.

Thye are really dropping the ball here. I shall do a blog.

They just sent me a link to a REALLY cool full moon walk that goes on. 2-3 hours all over the countryside. I am SO there. Will link in my blog. If I am there, we are going.

At 11:37 Blogger Marjorie said...

At 16:08 Blogger EmilyLady said...

Okay, so I do not have pneumonia, which is good, but the doctor was a complete weirdo and gave me four other simultaneous diagnoses, so, ahm, I went in to work today because it didn't seem to be anything really immediate. Anyway. Whew. A solid couple hours of nonstop movement and heavy lifting. Shwew.

At 16:30 Blogger Phiala said...

Emily, you're insane. I'm glad it isn't pneumonia, but take care of yourself.

At 19:05 Blogger AletaMay said...

Be well Em.

I had a meltdown earlier today. As a result I am exhausted now. Sometimes I think frustrating things happen just so I have the release of a good cry.

I am now drinking tea and getting in touch with my calm place, of which fiends are a part.

My book club read the Hunger Games this month. It was a really quick read so I read the second in the series too. I really like them and recommend them. The third one is not out yet.

We ALMOST decided on Christopher Moore's Fool for next month, but as everyone wanted to read Lear again first we decided to save that one for later and are doing Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, which I am looking forward to. Don't know why I felt the need to tell you all that, but there it is.

AND I think I am re-inspired on my night garden idea. Hope so.

At 22:33 Blogger AletaMay said...

Yicks. Now I have become the killer of the thread. So sorry. Good night/morning dear fiends.

At 22:41 Blogger ariandalen said...

Glad you don't have pneumonia, Emily; however, that doesn't mean that whatever it is you _do_ have won't develop into pneumonia if you don't take care of yourself!

Aleta, yay for being re-inspired on Night Garden project! Sorry about the meltdown. ::sigh::

I have a question for my fellow Fiends, and it may be a rather silly one. It only requires a "yes" or "no" answer, though "Well, DUH!" is perfectly acceptable, too.
Do you know what a sylph is?

At 22:45 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Invisible, kind of an air elemental. Fly around, not generally dangerous...

Sylphs. There you have it.

At 23:18 Blogger ariandalen said...

That's pretty much what I said when asked by someone, but got a nice blank face when I said "elemental." That, and she mispronounced the word "sylph."

Yes, there is a bit more to the story, but you'll just have to wait to find out. ;)

Kitty, you should definitely come to Ireland. It's 10 days before HOTR, you have time..

At 09:00 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Kitty, we'll figure it out. We have four places to be, within a couple weeks on 2 continents. It can work. Trust me.

Didn't, obviously, get the Ireland blog up, way too tired after riding last night.

I will do it in the morning tho. Gigs tonight after work.

Actually, Just one. That would make it a GIG, wouldn't it?

At 10:19 Blogger Na said...

We have four places to be, within a couple weeks on 2 continents. I have anxiety dreams like this...

At 10:32 Blogger Jess said...

I have ones where Mr. Jess and I are already on the other continent, but he's gone home ahead of me while I pack. Only I can't pack, because it's an hour till my flight leaves, and it seems that I brought more stuff than I can reasonably fit in our suitcase-- like pieces of furniture from our house, large appliances-- and I start sobbing because I have to leave stuff behind...

Armchair psychologists, descend!! \o/

At 10:49 Blogger Jane said...

I have no armchair psychological advice to offer because sadly I have the same sort of dream - packing to leave and cannot do it - for all sorts of reasons.

And that is how I pack anyway. I have a friend who would help me pack by sitting nearby and just keeping me on target when I started dithering. I want to pack everything - how do I know what shoes I'm going to want to wear at any given moment??? Then I start panicking and no more packing for the moment. 3am packing for a 7am departure to Rome was the worst one....

Sister's MIL died last night and it was kind of sudden. I'm in still shocked mode. And sad.

On the up side, 2 Aby kittens will arrive on June 17 at my house. If all goes well. This house has been cat-less for too long!

At 12:08 Blogger dabbler said...

Hugs to Phiala, Jane and others.

Sylphs are indeed elementals and I knows 'em..er about 'em.

Bad news is Mark and I have decided we can't make it to OTOCON. Good news is we have reservations for the Low Key Event instead!!!!

Now to reread American GOds...and start thinking about costumes.

At 13:34 Blogger Na said...

Oh Jane! Sad news. Consoling thoughts to you, and also to Aleta and Emily. On the less serious note, congrats on the new Abys!

And, I have those very same dreams too - I have an international flight to get to, haven't started packing, and the more stuff I cram in the suit case, the more items I discover laying around that need to go in, then realize I've read the time wrong and my flight's in half an hour, not five hours. And usually I've accidentally (?!) travelled to Europe when I've got some important event back in No America to get to.

At 17:32 Blogger Chantrelle said...

I am so queen of travel arrangements today. Well, not compared to Lorraine, the GODDESS of such things, but I have us all booked to see our friends in NC and in-laws in Chicago w/ a stop for business for hubby in Charlotte. Planes trains and hotels.

The only thing i have to figure is how to get from airport hotel where we crash after the late flight the first night to hotel near friends' house. Then how to get from there to the train station a couple of days later. I'm guessing we'll hire a car or taxi it. Looked at the buses but there's no direct line and it's too hard to transfer w/ luggage and a kid.

Proud of myself at the moment ;-)

At 18:07 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Jane -hugs of condolence re Sis's MIL, and joy re Abys. Bitter sweet, you have it.

I can't ever recall having those packing nightmares. Odds are on I will tonight now.

Why is it that on the weekend Cats always need to eat ultra early and then throw up?
And why am I now the only being awake in the house at 9am on a Saturday?

At 18:12 Blogger Phiala said...

It just snowed on me. Slushily. Fortunately I am home now, with cat ensconced on my lap and trying to make up for a week's absence all at once by purring as hard as he possibly can.

The dog is on my feet, also purring. He was raised by cats, and has learned to imitate them. Ridiculously cute, but we frequently have to convince people that he's not growling while they scratch his ears.

At 18:14 Blogger Phiala said...

Oh, right... I actually had something to say. (Sorry, been up since 4:30 this morning. Brain not working so good any more.)

Sally, those are some of my favorite times of the week. Weekend mornings, the house is quiet, good book, cup of tea. Sun streaming in the windows. Or rain falling gently outside - both are good.

Later everyone wakes up and wants something, if only attention, but those quiet early moments are mine.

At 18:23 Blogger Dragonsally said...

I must admit - I rather like them too Phiala.
They're forecasting snow on our alps this weekend...winter is getting closer.

At 18:24 Blogger Jane said...

OMG Phiala I love your description of dog purring :-)

Calvin had a particular purr that meant I'm sucking up so you won't throw me off your lap/computer/book/newspaper/bathroom basin and it was so loud we named it the purr/growl. And it was lovely.

My attitude about early morning peace and quiet is to sleep in so others can have the peace :-)
