Cabal the Frankendog comes home to a Flood....

Cabal is home from the Doggie Hospital. All seemed to go well, now he just needs to recover for 4-6 weeks and then should be good to GO! The one thing we've noticed since he got back this afternoon is that he is GRUMPY, which means Lola is being told in no uncertain terms her place in the pack. She gets it. Here's a picture taken by my Boss, as I have none.

Here's another Boss picture of me and Les Klinger, walking thru the flooded woods! This is the biggest flood we have seen in, well, ever. Both sides of the creek jumped their bed, and moved out into the forest. The Bees are sitting on what we call "Bee Island" more of a peninsula really, but "Bee Peninsula" doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Lola, Les and I are walking down what is actually a path, not a river. We had the Plan to go down all the way, and see our bridge that's underwater, but backed off from the idea. Rushing water, wet, airport run coming up, sanity, take your pick. When the water got to the tops of the boots, we were out of there.

I love this picture. It's one of the coolest pictures of me in years (Except for that one when I played with AFP, nothing will top that shot) , because when I looked at it, me and my BUTT, in stretch pants, my first thought was "Go girl, looking good!" and not "Oh Gods, that isn't ME"

Yeah, that IS me.

And I'm feeling pretty happy about that these days.

That BUTT is going to skate with Roller Girls, run in a 5K, show dressage, and wear some pretty amazing clothes that have been gathering dust in my closet where the skeletons used to live.

Watch me.

(I think I meant, grammatically, "watch IT" but "Watch my BUTT" seemed like a funny way to end a blog about Dogs and Flooding)

Love and Floods,
Lorraine

Dunno. I LIKE watch my butt.

"Eat my dust, watch my a**"

You go!

Also, wise decision re: water to top of boots = OUTTA THERE. Some flood there, and Lola looks as happy as the proverbial pig in mud.

Glad Big Dog is home and recovering. Equally glad Lola is remembering her place in the pack when reminded. Cabal is owed some good Grumpy Days after everything he's gone through lately.

At 19:49 Blogger Cecily said...

Oh I completely forgot by the time I got to commenting...YAY Cabal home even if he is grumpy. I have been grumpy too, so I can empathize. :-)

At 20:01 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Yay for Cabal being home, sending him calm doggie vibes (and chill vibes for Lola).

Probably a good idea to not risk walking too far in the floodwaters. The rushing water can be dangerous. And did you get your basement dried out? What did you end up doing?

And *whispers* nice ass!!!

At 20:05 Blogger Jess said...

Lookin' good, Medeadly!

Poor grumpity Cabal. He's sick of the hospital. :( Gentle skritches to his lovely ears.

Backtracking to the other thread: I can vouch for the mouth-problem thing, though with my cat the problems seem to be genetically linked. Crunchy food's vital in her case, though, because toothbrushing is impossible. Even if she would put up with it, she's allergic to cat toothpaste.

Neither of my cats will touch wet food; we've tried. But neither have become diabetic either, luckily. We keep an eye on it.

You look great! but the flood looks terrifying. We flood around here too when hurricanes hit but we are on HIGH ground. That looks like some pretty high water. How is the basement? So damn much happened to you today the basement doesn't even rate a comment.

OK now lets see if this post and makes sense? I do NOT know what happened to the last post? It was all scambled when I re-read it after it finally posted. I generally copy so I don't have to retype after I get errors. I think the copy went wonky LOL

fingers crossed

And, we want to know - did your basement get dry?

Vin, your comment looks good from here! Well done!

At 20:37 Blogger Vinity said...

YAY it posted. I forgot. Are the horses OK?

Also, always good to clean yourself with a clorox solution after dealing with flood water. We do here but maybe that is because this area has so much farming and livestock? The flood water here is toxic.

I really want your cleaning girl!

At 20:40 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Our horses are on high ground.

Some near my house were in a flooded pasture tho, didn't have time to stop, they didn't look in danger, but I wouldn't have left mine there.

I don't think anyone here would complain about watching your butt.

I am too tired to really play catchup tonight. Last night I fell asleep while watching Where the Buffalo Roam. Tonight I have to smooth out some grad school problems. The director of my (hopefully) new program lost my admissions paperwork, so I have to email it over tonight. The graduate school itself found transfer paperwork they lost and said they would walk it over to the English department, so tomorrow I have to double check to make sure they did that. School starts in a week and a half, and I don't know if I'm in the department yet.

And, I'm sleepy.

Glad to hear the basement flood is dealt with - Yay & Go Spooky Teen.

..back to cats, the other day I was eating salad, and, you know how cats are, you have to give them everything you eat to sniff even if you Know they won't like it. *sigh* anyway, Louie was looking longingly at my salad so I just picked up a piece of olive oil drenched lettuce and stuck it under his nose. He ate 3 or 4 pieces!! (he's the one who ate a whole plate of olives)

All my three cats are free range and supplement their diet of rodent and bird catch with dry and wet food at home. And they all nibble on grass to aid digestion.

And some of them like cheese. (Mario used to adore wafer thin ham, but since he disappeared I never buy it)

Oh PS No more compliments for Q, what if compliments have the same effect on ass as they do on head?! ;)

Morning!

Jess is truly lethal as a poet! She will no doubt get famous for this ASS poetry.

Well, my Ass is going to a riding lesson soon. Not on Dim, on Romy, a lovely paint dressage mare. I need to work on MY riding, not trying to convince Dim to behave at a basic level.

Dim is actually for sale. He is not the horse for me, I'll do a post about it, but it's really the right thing to do for what I want.

At 07:38 Blogger dabbler said...

Morning! Lovely Ass...and sorry to hear you and Dim didn't work out. but, you know, first loves often don't.

At 07:40 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Too true, too true. I do love the guy, just don't like riding him.

That is WAY to weird a sentence for this early in the day.

At 08:21 Blogger LihuaEmilyP said...

Yes, you look awesome. You must feel amazing.

And that is a cool picture!

At 08:36 Blogger Arwenn said...

I think Dabbler is right, sometimes first loves teach us a lot. You and Dim fell for each other and he really needed someone at that point in his life which nudged you into the reality of owning a horse.

At 08:46 Blogger Jess said...

Hehehehe. Weird sentence for this late in the morning. ;) Sorry to hear it's not working out with him, though. I suppose it's not too practical to just brush him forever. Gotta be able to work with him.

Ass Tanka is the new free verse.

At 09:32 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Siri!!!! *happy dance*

What's a paint dressage horse? I know about dressage, so I assume she's trained for that, but paint dressage? I'm picturing a huge canvass in the arena, coating the horses hooves with paint, then creating abstract art with the pattern of dressage moves. Results suitable for murals.

Woot! on seeing a picture of yourself that makes you happy with your progress, your future, and most of all yourself.

I knew a cat once who went crazy over leeks. I never gave her any, thinking they might be too much like onions to be safe. Phoebe yowls for bread. But, then again, so do I.

Back to work...

Hi Gayle. I really should have remembered that from my horse-crazy youth. But my theory kinda took over my brain. How was the museum trip?

At 10:10 Blogger Cecily said...

As I derail from Q's fine ass...

I need advice, and I figured the fiends here were good place to ask for it. I have written a children's book Probably best for the under tens. I have looked at some different sites online and gotten not quit the answers I am looking for. Kyle did a great post with some answers about seeking out publishing, but his were more aimed for the non-children books.

So if there is anyone that could help me that would be great, if not, I will continue my search.

My main question is, should I have someone illustrate it before I send it to publishers?

My secondary question is, do you know where I should find such a person?

For those that are curious, I wrote a book based on the song Blake Says. The first time I read it aloud to the girls they didn't budge, and when I was done all three screamed in unison, "THAT WAS AWESOME!". I am very proud of this book and really want to try to get it in print.

At 10:10 Blogger Jess said...

Li Em: You won't know how afraid you should have been for at least ten years. Ask again then. :D

At 10:20 Blogger gaypet said...

The Children's Museum was so fun. Thanks for asking. :)

At 10:21 Blogger Precision Grace said...

hey Cecily

from what I've learned, you shouldn't look for illustrator as publishers tend to prefer to get their own.

I have some resources bookmarked, but they are all for the UK market, I think the thing to do is either try to get an agent who specializes in children's books or if you have no joy, approach publishers directly (though I've learned the best thing is to try and get an agent if possible).

If you check out the kind of books that are published and similar to the one you written and check out their publishers, that might be a useful first step?

I'm sure others will be along with much more useful advice soon.
Good luck!!!

This morning, before I left for work, I saw a framed painting leaned up against the table in the laundry room, so I yoinked it. Then, a few minutes ago, I found an awesome end table on top of the laundry room table, wiped it down, and yoinked that, too. It is a round table but set up sort of like a leafed table with hinges, but instead of going down, the leafs fold upand have little handles, and it transforms into a square. I think I probably should take pictures. I'm going to paint it gaudy colors.

Tomorrow I'm going to investigate reports I've heard of dead bodies coming out of the ground in one of the cemeteries. A friend is bringing her camera, and I plan on writing a piece about it. I think it's important that people know that this is happening in a cemetery that is somewhat forgotten because it's where poor people are buried.

GREAT gig! Had a pretty cool moment with a family with an autistic daughter. She LOVED the music, and me. Couldn't stop smiling, and would call out things like YOU ARE SO FUNNY! THANK YOU! PLEASE WILL YOU PLAY ANOTHER!!!!

The family thanked me after and said I had made their holiday being so nice to their daughter and treating her like anyone else.

Told them, are you kidding? How can you not love someone who loves your music so?

I kind of thought they had done ME the favor.

I get PAID to play music and make people SO happy.

They are going to wake up and talk about how wonderful the night was.

Of course, there ARE, (this I know), going to be people who wake up this morning thinking "OH GODS I FEEL HORRIBLE HOW MUCH DID I DRINK? THERE WAS MUSIC? WAS IT GOOD"

I am not clean yet. Its a wet and dreary Sunday morning, therefore I can stay in my PJ's longer.

Happy Anniversary Robyn - enjoy your snickersnoo time together *wink*

How's the rock, Goo Medeadly?

Thunderstorms rolling in here, apparently. I blame Minnesota.

i would think goo would hamper rock.

Hi Fiends!

Sadly I could not go to Charlie's tonight. Hope the rock is rocking Q!

Not sure why fiends are dirty? I think I missed something.

At 21:35 Blogger Chantrelle said...

We would totally drop in on the rock-goo for an anniversary celebration if we were 2000 miles closer. Instead we had a wonderful dinner and now we'll have movie and wine.

Hmm, now I want to listen to Sonic Youth (Goo is my favorite album) :)

At 21:53 Blogger LihuaEmilyP said...

Dirty for their love of ASS. No worries, Fiends, I hope no one took that seriously.

At 21:58 Blogger AletaMay said...

No Worries Li-Em!

Just thought I must have missed something!

I am quite clean myself. Freshly even. As for my mind...that is a completely different story. And not one I'm ashamed of!

Off topic, I am doing research into finding a writers agent. Does anyone have one or know of one that they might recommend for appeal to? I am quite worried about scams. But I am well aware that anyone that asks me for money upfront is not legit.

Also...does anyone have any interest in reading the story I wrote based on Blake Says? If there is interest I might be able to put in somewhere on the web behind a password for perusing.

At 23:06 Blogger Na said...

quite clean here. took monsters for a swim in a really nice indoor pool complete with waterfall and slide. also hot tub. mmmmm hot tub: i particularly love that first minute or so after you get in. bliss.

not too entertaining, here. we've been stateside for a funeral, so i've lived a month in one week it feels, and been wrestling with thoughts of mortality and the emotions of grief mixed with the joys of seeing many living loved ones. i kept thinking irreverently of these Lyle Lovett lyrics:

I went to a funeral
Lord it made me happy
Seeing all those people
I ain’t seen
Since the last time
Somebody died

Everybody talking
They were telling funny stories
Saying all those things
They ain’t said
Since the last time
Somebody died

although there was a reunion last summer and one of the cousins is getting married next month. and we celebrated two other cousins' birthdays the day of the funeral. there were some moments of family drama and even the revealing of secrets. like a George Elliot novel come to life it was.

life. it's just crazy.

At 03:12 Blogger Marjorie said...

Cecily, I can't offer any advice about agents but I'd be interested in reading your story. (my email address is on my blog)

Good to hear there was rock!

I am now in deepest (slow internetty) Devon - had a very tedious drive to get here, but nice now I'm here - and my parents house is much better for stargazing than mine, hardly any light pollution. The clouds cleated enough for us to see shooting stars last night!

Magic let me tickle his tummy when I came back home just now!!!!!

WAY worth getting up after 4 hours of sleep for...

At 09:16 Blogger Jess said...

He's a massive, soppy love muffin, is what he is. :D

My cats woke me at 3:45 am to tell me it was time to Go Downstairs, else they'd chew all the electrical cables in the room. So we Went Downstairs, and I rattled their bowls, which makes them think the food is fresh out of the bag. Hah! Stupid cats. Then I went to bed again.

/thrilling tale of mystery and adventure

there's a new Buffy comic out this week, and that's exciting enough for me. :D

Ceci, i'd be happy to read your story, too. i'll DM my email via some social media thingie somewhere.

At 09:24 Blogger Na said...

& yay for Magic tummy rubs! wow. seems the possibilities for him are almost limitless -- slow to develop, yes, but seems like almost anything could happen for him.

At 10:55 Blogger LihuaEmilyP said...

Yes, Magic's really come a looooong way. Yay for Buffy comics. I have a friend who is a passionate Buffy-lover. I am a Buffy-liker who hasn't seen enough.

At 11:17 Blogger Cecily said...

Na, I love those lyrics. I can't say I have heard many Lyle Lovett songs, but those words really speak to me. They actually make me want to share a story from my youth.

I was lucky enough to know my great-grandparents growing up. We put their ashes in the ground after both had passed. I was in my early teens. After the service, we all went to eat together. Going across the parking lot I was skipping and happy. My Uncle yelled at me and told me that I wasn't behaving properly for the occasion. I still don't understand it. I was surrounded by an entire side of my family. I was with my favorite person in the world, my grandmother, and we were their to honor my great grandparent's lives. Not to stop living ourselves.

It is because of that that I am able to teach my kids it is ok to have times of happiness after you lose someone, just as equally as it is ok to have times of grief.

(((HUGS)))

At 11:33 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

The Bengals tell em ofter I FORGOT to feed them, and they have not eaten. Generally, I buy that.

Went back to bed, things are much happier now. Major house choree going on!

Pleased to hear Magic is becoming so much more relaxed. It's a fine thing to know one's home.

Cecily, I would enjoy reading your book...let us know if you post or would like to send it out.

Na, I understand your being of two minds about funerals...loss is sad, but then we are surrounded by those we've not seen in ages. If I have my druthers, I'd prefer folks skipping and laughing and singing at my own...

Great live music at a friend's last night...now to laundry (sigh)

"em ofter" ?????

No more waking at down and slamming coffee after 4 hours sleep.

I did go back to bed tho. ROCK-me won.

Feel great now and am re-doing one of my bedrooms.

I think I should do Bengal pics tonight, and a new post.

At 13:17 Blogger Jess said...

FIT-you needs sleep, too. Three hours is the standard length of one full sleep cycle; once you're on to four hours, you're into the beginning of the next sleep cycle. So you're more likely to feel tired and miserable on four hours than three, or on five hours than six. In other words: if you've only had four hours and your body's telling you to go back to bed, hey, no shame in that.

I'm not accomplishing anything today, but it's Sunday, so I feel okay about that.

At 13:45 Blogger Cecily said...

Pi are you on the Facebooks?

At 17:02 Blogger Hellie said...

Hope much ROCK was had! Oh and that's so lovely that Magic let you rub his tum!

Cecily I'd like to read it to! Have a lovely time in Devon Marjorie; will be down there myself in a few weeks :o)

I am actually rather dirty, having been scraping wallpaper, cleaning carpets, building beds & all sorts of exciting things today - I second the need for a massage! But bathtime now then time to try the new bed. Night fiends!

At 17:10 Blogger Hellie said...

ps Vampi just send you a friend request on facebook (Helen Lee)

At 17:40 Blogger dabbler said...

Let's see... I'd like to read the book, Cecily, as well. I am on the book of faces as Katie Hynes, for anyone wishing to friend me.

Also, I have been seduced by Fallen London, which makes me actually want to follow Fiends on Twitter. (Siri, I feel disloyal, but began to tweet when DD went to Italy.) I am owlsmom, and will need to approve you, if you want to follow me... I don't say much, my life is not as excited as Lorraine's.

Yicks. Worked at the Festival site in the rain, had one hard cider, and now my brain is dripping out of my ears. Can't recall what else I wanted to say.

Prolly just "Yay Fiends" Oh and {{{NA}}}}

Took Lola Roller Bladeing. Successful in that no one was hurt, but it did serve to reinforce my belief that I have no muscles.

At 17:55 Blogger dabbler said...

That sounds likely to end badly. Glad no injuries...

At 18:04 Blogger Na said...

roller blading -- eeeek!

sorry. flashback. i like those other skates. what do Roller Derby folks use?

and thanks, you lot. we're all doing pretty well, all things considered. and quite right: it's good to still be here.

speaking of here, more than anything, at this particular moment, i am simply glad to be back at our abode, and OUT OF THE *bleeping* CAR.

At 18:05 Blogger Na said...

"other skates" = old-fashioned skates :P

At 18:34 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Bless you Lorraine, I just had the best image of Lola on blades.

For any newish Fiends, and others who didn't know or have forgotten we have a Fablo page on The Book Of Faces...
(goes to check address)
this is where you find it

Oh dear, its been pretty inactive...gang, lets bump it up!

At 19:46 Blogger Chantrelle said...

I haven't been on roller blades since college! I have taken ben roller skating though and i can still do that...hurts the ankles a bit but not as much as ice skating does!

On the kid-less docket tonight: sushi delivered and Zombieland (nope, haven't seen it before!). We're catching up on our movies. Ben comes home tomorrow w/ grandma and grandpa :)

WAY too many Bengal Pictures and about Freaking time I say!

New post is UP!

At 20:34 Blogger Poindextra said...

Oh, wow!

Forgive my tardiness in reply, I tend to get my head wrapped up in lots of things.

I'm glad I'm welcome here!

And thank you for loving the name. <3

At 20:54 Blogger Siri said...

I shall not tweet....in that, I am resolute.

At 21:49 Blogger Cecily said...

Real quick before I move on to the new post...I am trying to get everyone's email that wants to give my book a read.

And I adore roller blading! I tried skating last year with the older skates and could barely stand, so I decided to upgrade to the blades, which I hadn't been on since I was a teen...it came back so easily. I wish I could afford a pair, I would totally skate all the time.
