Bengals and Derby!!!

Here's great news today: Kelli Bickman has put up a shop with prints, magnets, totes, notebooks and other Goodies of the Bengal Tree Painting she did for me last year!

You can find it HERE!

AND 50% of the profits will go straight to Great Lakes Bengal Rescue. (The other 50% to the artist, I have the painting, and that's more than enough for me) So if you're looking to do a little Shopping for the Holidays, and the Bengals make you happy, you might consider a Wee Something. For a Someone. Or yourself. And help out Bengals at the same time.

This week is exciting as at the end of it I am going to Indianapolis to see my first ever Derby Bout! Live and in person. Naptown Roller Girls vs Chicago.

Look! A Handy Poster I stole off the web! Art by Aaron Scamilhorn. (I would credit the photographer too, but can't seem to find that info, here in my morning Stalking)

I've seen this sport for a while now in the Internet, and have been lucky enough to get to meet a lot of women who play Derby. All of whom seem convinced it is only a matter of time before I take up this sport myself. I love skating, and am not half bad at it. These skaters are very, very good tho. And very, very FIT.

I want that too. There's art in skating too. Or an art TO skating. Derby has a beauty all of its own. Like dance. Only they hit harder.

Seeing Derby LIVE and up close and personal, as I've been promised, may decide the issue.

I think I know the answer.

Thanks Guys. See you Friday.

Love and Derby,
Lorraine

I await the day the Bengals take to skates, too. Have a blast.

I loved skating all the way through my 20s and then somehow it got left behind...would love to pick it up again...

This is one area where I will not be following our Fearless Leader. But more power to ya, Lorraine! I roller skated in the 70s, of course. I've only skated once since then, and sprained my wrist. So I consider these crazy-high, two-inch heels I'm wearing today to be the extent of my pedestrian risk-taking.

I think it's so cute that you think you're going home after this weekend! Bwahahaa!

PS- the photogs name is Tom Klubens btw. You'll meet him this weekend!

The things I miss going away for a nice relaxing long weekend with lots of food and drink and writing and snow and no internet...

And return to complete chaos at work and home and here and everywhere! Can I have my vacation back now please?

Oh you will so be derbying in your future. ;-)

Many wonderful things at the Bengal shop!

Hoppy Bird-day Nathalie!

Wendy: I saw the Devil's Backbone...it's one of my favorite atmospheric scary movies. Guillermo del Toro is one of my favorite directors ever! Everytime I watch extras on any of his DVD's I get jealous that others have been so fortunate to work with someone so creative. (Yes. Major art crush here!)

I forgot to ticky!

Sounds exciting! Love the Bengal art.

Ah, crumbs, CafePress.
I always end up paying more tax than what I buy on that site...
Still. Must grumble, the goodies look awesome.

At 14:40 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Oh and thanks for the wishes, fiends!

At 15:28 Blogger Dragonsally said...

I don't think I'll be following MeDeadly to Derby either, other than as a spectator. That I can do with gusto.
Forgot to say I ordered a Journal/Notebook from Cafe Press the other day with the intention of using it for a dedicated Fiend address/notebook.
It should arrive any day!

Several lovely concerned fiends have been wondering if Ireland is sinking into the ocean under the weight of political incompetence. It isn't. Yet. Though we do have snow, which almost never happens, and never ever happens this early. We even had the whole snowpocalypse with thunder and lightening and hailstones. So actually maybe the end is nigh.....

The short version: Ireland is borrowing a load of money from Europe to bail out banks that intentionally screwed us, often supported by the politicians currently working out the deal with Europe. No, it doesn't make sense but sometimes you need the killer to find the bodies. As yet, I haven't been directly affected much, the benefits of having no money for them to take away.

But enough of politics, Guillermo del Toro is much more interesting - anyone read The Strain & The Fall? Vampires that *don't* want to be your boyfriend! Can't wait for the third part.

At 16:50 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Thanks for the recommendation Louisa, I've just logged on to my library and reserved them.

I am so beyond tired. My teacher killed me riding, it was like she turned into HELGA THE DESTROYER. Not only did she have a whip (And tall black boots) she got another whip and made me ride with it thru my arms, across my back, if you can picture it.

Your arms can't move forward. They stay where they are MEANT to. It's pretty much very scary, but cool when it's done.

I'll learn to ride.

But man am I tried. Turbo soon. Thinking about being asleep by 9. Yup.

If you're driving to Indy, wave when you get to the West Lafayette exit on I65. If you're flying, wave shortly before landing at IND :-)

Have fun!!

Phew. Jest done my overseas Christmas cards - later than normal.

any new fiends want one from DownUnder?

At 18:45 Blogger Jane said...

I'm not a new fiend but don't think you have my address - do you?

BLOOD SUGAR YOU JERK MAKING ME ALL NAUSEOUS ON A BLOODY SCHOOL NIGHT

At 20:24 Blogger Dragonsally said...

I certainly do Sharon, and have mailed your card already! Efficient of me huh.

Li Em - hope that nausea settles quickly

'Night, Fiends...

At 20:56 Blogger dabbler said...

Night all. I'm done in. And nope, no skates for me either, I can fall down when the shoes don't roll. But OSS, are you stairclimbing in 2" heels? Yikes!

At 21:06 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Good heavens, no! I wear sneakers to and from work and for any other exercise. The dress flats and heels live under my desk at work.

At 21:09 Blogger EmilyOliveP said...

I always have to wear sneakers if I'm gonna walk to the bus stop in the morning. Which is tomorrow. I mean bus stop morning morrow. Anyway. Shutting up and maybe doing a little math review and then QUITE POSSIBLY sleeping. nausea is a little better now. Much better, come to think of it. But I am worried about diabetes tearing my limbs off. Which these highs will do, I believe. Sigh. OKAY, math time, good time, good thing.

At 21:10 Blogger Jane said...

Yay Sally! I have your address, too.

At 21:23 Blogger dabbler said...

And tick

At 23:42 Blogger ariandalen said...

Yay! for watching roller derby in person! Add me to the list of those not about to participate in the game. I do stupid things to keep from falling, even without wearing skates.

Sally, I don't have your address, and I don't think you have mine. Which would you rather: DM on twitter, or email?

Anybody else want a card from me? I don't require an exchange. :)

Also, I still have everybody's address that I sent a card to last year. :)

At 23:48 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Still haven't read anything here...maybe tomorrow.

g'night.

At 05:27 Blogger EmilyOliveP said...

Yeah sure Ariandalen, I would love one - what's your email address?

At 08:11 Blogger Cecily said...

I don't typically send out holiday cards, and especially not this year with the crazy of this move, but I will gladly and shamelessly receive them from anyone whom wants to send em one. :-)

At 08:12 Blogger Cecily said...

OH! Also, waiting to receive the lease this morning, looks like we got the townhouse we applied for! I have to say that there has been a rock in my gut since this became more of a reality.
