Coco the Hermit Crab's First Video!

This will be a short post tonight, as I am pretty tired and since I finally got home after work, I've both had to take out the rubbish for the trash service in the morning and upload my Coco the Hermit Crab video, both of which are about equally traumatic for me. (which says a lot right there about skills I may or may not posses.)

First, some Derby, as it was a nip down to see the Naptown Roller Girls Bout weekend. First photo is by Tom Klubens, you can see the entire set, and lovely it is, HERE.

And here's one by Marc Lebryk (full set HERE) of me! Ok, I suspect he didn't set out to take one of me, that's Joan of Dark, from the back, and everyone cheering her, but since it's the only photo I happen to BE in this weekend, I'm going with, yes, photo of me. She won't mind.

I won't go into a full detail on the Bout, or on Derby, since this IS a post on Coco the Hermit Crabs rare daytime scuttle, except to say Derby is beautiful like music, and every bit as strong, wild and magic. I did a post after the last Bout, which said pretty much everything I am still thinking, if you missed it, you can go back and read it HERE.

I would say the only thing I would add to it is that I am more sure than ever now that I want to be a part of this, and I am going to skate. Starting next week I believe. And trust me, there will be a post on THAT evening.

I love this sport. (and not to run a topic to the ground but: I will be that FIT)

There, that's Derby. Now, it being a Monday and me being brain dead, and Coco the Hemit Crab coming out for a rare daytime appearance, I was inspired to take some Actual Video, right there, of Crab Island. (my Boss did briefly wonder if this was exactly what he was paying me for, but this was huge, and I couldn't let it go by.)

Crab Island is not a tame, resort type Island, it's a brutal place. Coco once had a Friend, but the Friend had a bigger and better shell, and on Crab Island, it's all about the lodging. Brutal. No video of it, for which we are grateful, but suffice to say: Coco is now the lone tenant there.

Here he is ("he" is sort of guessed at, I have no clue if it's a he or a she, or how to tell, and if anyone is in possession of this knowledge, leave me ignorant, I do not want to know) in his first (and likely only) video, out for a scuttle to the pool. It's only a minute and 10 seconds, and I am sorry to say the real action doesn't come into play until around 50 seconds, so bare with us. It's worth it.

Love and Coco,
Lorraine

Thanks for the Coco video! I love hermit crabs...or even just crabs in general (we're talking sea crabs o you fiends with the wandering minds!) They're so "crabby"...they make me laff! If I'm walking along the shore and see one I always have to pick it up and squeal "Hermit Crab!" (as if they didn't know!) I'm very kind and place them back exactly where I found them...but tide pools can occupy me for hours. Anyway. I digress.
Photos from the derby were great, looks like a swell time!

i have to say, i have this idea of fit, but am doing nothing about it. i think what i need to do first is get regular sleep. i slog through a day, staying up late at night to get odds and ends done, then am so tired again the next day, i just slog through that, too...

Jess - love Marcel! also, my monsters frequently mention how they want pets. i think one like Allen would do nicely.

I'm listening to the EP Sxip's band made w/ the Carolina Chocolate Drops...it's great! I'm sending it to my sister, she'll love it. I like it when our worlds collide. She's seen Carolina Choc. Drops many times before and I've seen Sxip w/ AFP....love it.

I'm going to finish putting crap up into my attic and then jump into updating the night garden with the exciting new sekrit project :)

At 14:03 Blogger Marjorie said...

Jess dear, if you're lurking outside Q's window in hip high boots no wonder you are cold.
If you are a dedicated stalker you have to live with that kind of thing..

At 14:34 Blogger Cecily said...

This is a test to see if I comment if all the other conversation will once again stop...this is just a test...in the case of an actually emergency you will be given directions...they will probably include "run around and scream while waving your arms"

I need a hot chick stalker too. though I will settle for pictures of Jess in the boots outside Quiche's window. ;-)

At 14:44 Blogger Na said...

why hello world. i have had a nap. and this concludes my workout for the day.

Aleta, my brain's been like that too. how did your Day of Organization go?

i would posit that "hot chick stalker" and "Jess in boots" are redundant. unless you're referring to outside temperatures near Fablor's windows, in which case Jess'd become a frozen hot chick in boots.

i made an aural bliss-inducing discovery yesterday: Peter Gabriel doing a cover of a Regina Spektor song.

At 14:46 Blogger Cecily said...

Yes they are redundant, but I can't take Jess from Quiche, so I need my *own* hot chick stalker, like Jess. ;-)

At 15:07 Blogger Marjorie said...

But she was comainibg of the cold. Is it any warmer where you are, Cecily? If so, maybe Jess could stalk you in winter, and Q in summer?

At 15:20 Blogger Cecily said...

Warmer than where Quiche is? yes. Warm? no.

At 15:27 Blogger Jess said...

The worrying thing about this whole conversation is that. at some point, I'm going to have to actually go and buy some hip boots.

At 15:56 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

I will stalk you, Cecily. ^.^

All you needed to do was ask.

At 15:57 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Are we talking hip, as in trendy or hip as in very high and possibly waders? Cos I imagine being in waders in the winter in Minnesota would be beyond cold.

And Jess, how do you come across all these wonderful videos?

I only have questions so far. Deeper thoughts may arise after I've had breakfast.

Oh right. Damm husbands anyway.

I started this project in... 2008, I think.

I just now developed the first actual conclusion to go in the paper.

Science is slow.

Also, this project turned out to be much harder than anticipated, and the student I hired to do the grunt work screwed it all up. And I had to write the software from scratch, and have actually published the software and written the methods paper.

But still, three years later I have finally produced the first bit of information for which I was given a pile of money.

At 13:25 Blogger Jess said...

Yay! Go science! Slowly. \o/

Do you go to the Cheese Shoppe, don't you? Is the one on...I can't remember the name of the street. Little brick-cobbled courtyard near that Indian restaurant.

I'll have my own label there in time. See if I don't. You all can come up with the NAME for it. (it won't be blueberry) Sounds like Choc Hazelnut is what you want.

There. Settled.

Back to work. Sigh. Little Evil killed me this morning. Need. Nap.

Hubby roasts his own coffee beans. He gets the green beans from an organic free trade deal too. I drink coffee about once a month. I can't drink other coffee now! The beans that are roasted 24-48 hours before don't have any bitterness. The oil hasn't come out of the beans yet and had the chance to go rancid. He makes me a mocha with Recchiuti hot chocolate and his espresso. I'm spoiled. Just another way i'm a food snob.

At 14:09 Blogger Marjorie said...

Uh, Fearless Leader? Excuse me. Um, are those of us overseas permitted to buy our coffee more locally?

I just know I'm really really hungry and I didn't plan dinner before this moment. Not good.

Wait. Jimmy Johns. Veggie on WW. They will BRING it to me.

But, uh, first I gotta get comfortable on those skates! *laughs One lap at a time, baby! ;o)

And go YOU for having a great riding session!!! *cheers madly* Yanno, I bet being able to ride well will really help with derby too - having a strong core and good situational awareness is, I've been told, really beneficial for derby.

Hey, I've been very open and honest about the stalking. It's not sekrit at all.

And no, I didn't start the car. I was having my hair re-redded.

At 23:36 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Reredding of hair is a very good reason not to be stalking at the particular moment.

Maybe it was really the Bengals who snuck out and started the car, because they wanted the house to themselves.

At 23:37 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Well, that was strange...I'm on the desktop not the laptop, and blogger had a whole different log in procedure. Could they have changed it all in the two hours I've been out?

Working on a new post. No. Really. Trying.

Have a neurologist appt on Tue for the eye/face pain I've had since Sept. It kind of comes and goes, came to stay about a month ago. Can't decide if there is only one thing wrong or multiple things.

Eliminated sinus problems with CT scans. New glasses with correct Rx, no contacts since mid-summer. Massage therapist does TMJ work on jaws (not sure which came first, the eye pain or the tight jaw). Possible tooth issue so may have to go to oral surgeon. Eyes are healthy, not dry.

I mean really, I get so discouraged and in addition, it HURTS!

OK. Not what anyone means by chat.

On the upside, it is gorgeous and sunny, high of 50F, and it is Friday. Valentine's Day is Monday and I need to run out and buy some underwear for DH. His black thong from Fredericks of Hollywood finally worn out. TMI, maybe?

Cats are healthy. Always good. And they have a new litter box to play with, always a fun time.

The older Siamese who belonged to my friend who died, is finally eating again :-)

So most things are OK.

At 09:31 Blogger Phiala said...

Of course that's what we mean by chat: real people with real lives, not sanitized boring always-cheery people.

I hope that gets figured out fast; chronic pain is awful, not knowing why is awful. But I'm glad the kitties are all well, especially the Siamese.

At 09:32 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

HA! Found the picture I wanted. Now I just need linky things for all the cool new bengal Bits...The mugs? Erin's page???

Look, do I have to write this myself????

At 09:33 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Opps. Sorry. Stalker Wife Jess sent them.

At 09:34 Blogger Jess said...

That was quick! I only just hit send. Well. "Just" in the sense of about a minute and a half ago. Maybe more like two minutes.

At 09:38 Blogger Jane said...

I think if I knew why that would be a tremendous help.

All the kitties are Siamese, but the 2 younger ones don't have the "everyone's going to eat me" attitude and they are younger, more adaptable and adoptable.

I want the mugs!!! Love that Magic face...

At 09:43 Blogger Jess said...

That's right, Fiends. RUN! JESS HAS ARRIVED! Do you see why I'm on Twitter all the time, now? Do you?

Here is my contribution to chat: it is Day Two of Re-Redded hair and my scalp is starting to feel skanky. I am always afraid to wash it right away after having it coloured, given the Very Special Red--you know, the one that looks like I dunked my head in a vat of jam--really only lasts a couple of weeks. After that I just sort of go boring brown-with-a-bit-of-ginger. What's the point of going Very Special Red if it isn't going to stay special? Huh? Tell me that!

Do I sound irritable to you? I think I must be. I start off fine and then everything just annoys me. Im'a put my boot through the internet and send the bill to Neil Gaiman! Booyah.

Right. Stopping now. Sorry.

At 09:46 Blogger Jess said...

Oh, there's Sharon! I thought she went, but she didn't. Only Sharon is brave enough to stay!

I'm sort of proud of the Magic-in-your-face one. That was a fine idea I had, there. Not to toot my own horn or anything.

*toot*

At 09:47 Blogger Arwenn said...

Jess - I have never gone very- special-red, but when I have tried red-er, the stylist warned me not to use very hot water to wash the hair, apparently that speeds up the fading process.

At 09:53 Blogger Jess said...

Hmm. And I like a hot shower, too. Drat and bother. Frowny face.

At 09:54 Blogger Arwenn said...

Oh me too, so I just keep my hair up when I'm doing the really hot shower bit and turn the temp down for the washing of the hair bit.

At 09:59 Blogger Cecily said...

First, not knowing is the worst. I hope you get some answers soon and they are easily fixable!

Second, yes to keep the easy fade colors longer you have to wash your hair in the coldest water you can stand. It sucks, but your hair is usually healthier and softer with cold washes anyway, or at least that has been my experience. :-)

Last, my contribution to Chat...I have had a knot of anxiety in my gut and shoulder for some time now. I can't seem to attribute it to anything or anyone, but it's driving me batty. I hate feeling like this. Can someone make me some soothing tea and cuddle me while we watch frivolous chic flicks until this damned thing goes away? (I guess I could get Wendy in from the cold...unless she hasn't actually started stalking me yet)

At 10:04 Blogger Arwenn said...

Cecily - Eep! I hate that knot! As wacky as this sounds I think that sometimes for me it can be brought on by a lot of unrest and uncertainty in the world...Egypt, the economy and the weather would do it.

I would like to formally offer my services as a stalker seeing as it is 7 degrees here and we still have about two feet of snow on the ground.

At 10:15 Blogger Cecily said...

YAY! More stalker goodness! It's 32F here...so still cold but at least not in the negative numbers!

And yes, I have had this feeling before with unrest in the world, but it's usually before the unrest happens, not during. *sigh* The last time I had this feeling my husband was in Florida for work, and someone drugged him in hopes of robbing him later in the night. Let's just say that night was hell, as he was incoherent and calling me for hours whimpering for me to help him from 5 states away. And the time before that...I don't even want to consider...*tries not to start sobbing*
