My Fashion Show....

I received an invite in my inbox inviting me to be a VIP guest at a Fashion Show coming up, which is very exciting, but I am not sure why they believe I might be an asset to this sort of thing. Still, I can see me there. It could happen. Mostly what I want is to read the write up in the fashion pages the day after. PEOPLE magazine needs me.

BBBGG (Beautiful Bleached Blonde Gay Guy): Quiche Medeadly! HOW did you LOVE the event last night??? SO glad you were there! Made the evening!!

QM: (that would be ME) Oh, dude, I loved it! SO many wonderful people, really, wouldn't have missed it! Was curious about the Gift Bag, what the heck is "Eye Cream"?

BBBGG: Let's talk about your outfit, Fabulously Whimsical knee socks from Target, black workout pants, and a delicious tattered pink tank top, was it hard to decide? Or did it just come together?

QM:It was easy, came together instantly, it's an outfit that's so right for anything. And all I currently own.

BBBGG: I know you've been photographed in a variety of hairstyles, and forever you've been going with the Messy Bun look, and now, you seem to be sporting braids, why the change? We LOVE it by the way, SO five years old!

QM: The bun doesn't fit under my either my Derby Helmet or my Riding one.

BBBRG: And PINK now? Very trending, your doing I suspect, pink is the new purple! Why pink tho? What lead to the switch?

QM: My hairdresser was out of purple that day and I was wearing pink socks*. (*Actual real event)

BBBGG: Tell us about your jacket...

QM: A Naptown Hoodie. Armani, I believe.

BBBGG: Those boots were too too! Michael Kors? Jimmy Choos? Was the mud a Steampunk reference or were you going for a "Crawl out of the Ooze" evolution statement?

QM: Red Wellies. Spring in MN. Be a fool to go with anything else.

BBBGG: We SO admire your stance on not accepting any designer jewels! Diamonds are SO yesterday!!! What are you wearing?

QM: Bee earrings. Only ones I could find two of.

BBBGG: Is that a BENGAL in your bag? Most people carry Little Doggies at these events, don't see any tonight tho...And is that a CASANDRA Designer Purse?

QM: Ah. The purse. Nordstrom Rack. I was weak. And the thing IS cool. And no, there don't seem to be any little doggies around anymore, who can say?

BBBGG: We notice that you are CURVIER than most of the sized 2 and zero starlet and icons here tonight, they look positively starving beside you, do you have any comment for young women in regards to this?

QM: Hell yes! I am a normal sized women and normal sized women have curves and aren't a size zero, who would you rather go to bed with? A stick or a women with something to hold onto*? (*Map of Tasmania reference)

BBBGG: Er...

QM: Oh. Right. Point. The point is I am HOT in whatever I wear, I look GREAT, and I am FIT and happy
.

(Network/Mass Media note: We are not running those last comments, cut interview at question 8)

You know, I may well go to this fashion show at that. I got some points to make.

Love and Fashion,
Lorraine

Emily: What did you read? Something of your own creation? I'd love to take a look at it

At 09:28 Blogger LihuaEmily said...

I wrote a play and had a staged reading for it yesterday - I didn't have to speak or read, but I did have to stand under a vicious spotlight and pretend like I knew what I was supposed to do there. Fortunately that part lasted a short time. But it was my own scene with assigned actors. I would be glad to show it to you, Becca, if you want to read it.

At 10:18 Blogger Jane said...

Emily, glad it went well!

Beeca, I can't seem to find your blog site - would you mind posting the link here?

Wonderful dinner last night with Dabble (aka Katie). She's right, Mini-fiend meets so rock!

we are having a snowy, blustery (i.e., drifty) day.

and i am avoiding work work. oughta do some o' that housework. meh. i walked a lot downtown yesterday - met a friend to do yoga and eat lunch. walked more than is usual for me and all this morning had an odd twitch in my left quad. also this a.m. did a jigsaw puzzle with the beasts, a puzzle that's all BEETLES. it is brand new but missing a piece. :P

At 00:32 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Good morning, fiends (or afternoon, evening, times in between).
I opened my email to a situation where a story refused by a publisher is now being accepted by that same publisher. Which would be dandy except for the fact that I have sold it in the meantime to somebody else. Weird. This is going to be a strange day, I can already feel it.
This calls for some mad music!

At 00:48 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Not a bad spot to be in Nathalie.

I bought that CD at the show on Friday and have been playing it to death. soooo good.

At 07:20 Blogger Jess said...

ATTENTION FIENDS. THE BIG NIGHT GARDEN INSPIRATION BONANZAFEST BEGINS NOW. Jason freaking Webley, people! Go forth and make things! Send money to GLBR! Whomever gives the most money by April 30th gets a CD copy of Against the Night signed by the man himself!

And help me scream, would you. Go to the places you go to on That Internet, and jump up and down and yell your heads off and be as annoying about it as humanly possible. Annoying for a good cause! They can't argue with that.

Woohoo! \o/

At 07:51 Blogger Jane said...

GO JESS!

Thanks Becca.

Nathalie - good weird vs bad weird, maybe :-)

I haz a cold so am laying low, reading knitting and Interneting, also laundry and cleaning, but that's not the fun part...

At 08:08 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

Um... Nathalie, that's crazy. Did they forget that they rejected you? Oy!

In any case, I'm thrilled that you sold the story. Way to go!

Jess, I am now in a panic. I don't know what to make.

At 08:14 Blogger dabbler said...

Oh noes, Jane... you said you weren't going to get that cold! Hope it passes fast and you have many good books available.

At 08:18 Blogger spacedlaw said...

May I add that Jason's subject song (and lyrics) are ALSO all available on bandcamp? I'd give you the link but I am at work and I am not allowed to access bandcamp here.

At 08:55 Blogger Jess said...

Erin, relax. You've got till April 30th. Go listen to the song, have some coffee, let it cook. :)

Good point, Nathalie. All that info is linked on the page in question, and also on the contributor page. We would not ask Jason to do this without plugging the hell out of him in return. Go buy his music. And then give whatever money you have left to Janet.

At 08:59 Blogger Jess said...

And lest we forget, it's actually Chantrelle we actually have to thank for this. She's the one who did all the Webleynapping in the first place!

At 10:07 Blogger spacedlaw said...

@Erin: No they remembered that. Either they do not have enough texts for their anthology or it's a reward for giving money on their fund raiser (which would not make any sense and would be terribly embarassing). We'll see. The other publisher accepts reprints so strictly speaking I could have it published twice.
Weird. Good weird but weird.

At 10:27 Blogger LihuaEmily said...

Wow Nathalie, I totally missed that. Huh. Sounds odd!

At 11:47 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Apparently one of the selcted contributors dropped off and I was at the top of the pile.

Both publishers are fine with reprints so I have emailed a request to the other publisher to check if they are okay with this (which would mean the story published in two different anthologies !!!)

At 11:57 Blogger Jane said...

Yes, I did think I wouldn't get the cold...it's not a bad one, though.

Thanks Becca, I caught up on your blogs and must say to you - you sound amazing.

At 13:33 Blogger LihuaEmily said...

Cool, Nathalie! I hope things work out.

At 14:13 Blogger ariandalen said...

That's a nice spot to be in Nathalie! I hope it works out that you will be published in both works. :)

I received an email yesterday saying that one of my "small stone" poems has been accepted for publication! I'm still doing a happy dance. :)

IIRC, Nathalie had a couple of small stones accepted for the same publication. :)

At 14:16 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Nooo, just the one.

At 15:17 Blogger Becca said...

:D thanks, Jane

At 15:26 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

Congrats on the poetry publications!!! That is awesome. :-)

Jess, your icon freaks me out. I feel like you're hiding in my computer ready to take a picture.

Is it nap time yet?

At 17:03 Blogger Jess said...

Hey, Q doesn't call me her stalker-wife for nothing, Erin. Now open the blinds.

At 17:10 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Wow, publishing happening left and right, congrats guys!!

Thanks to Jess for really spearheading the night garden project. I asked jason to use his song but jess got the whole thing really going. Really exciting stuff. Now, as long as people make art, it will be a rousing success! :)

It also gave me an idea for a foodporn project i may have to get going so we'll see if that happens at some point too.

A friend of mine saw Jason in NZ (pre-quake) and was brought to tears by his performance of Last Song, sent me a message to find out what song it was (since he didn't announce the name of hte song) and immediately bought the album. He is so powerful live.

So, I just recently disovered that there is a library blocks from my house...i've lived here 7 yrs...i'm observant. Anyway, i just got around to looking up the hours, they're sadly ridiculous:
Sun Closed
Mon Closed
Tue 10 AM - 6 PM
Wed 1 PM - 5 PM
Thu Closed
Fri Closed
Sat 11 AM - 5 PM

Stupid budget cuts. I guess we'll try to go on saturdays.

At 19:36 Blogger LihuaEmily said...

Happy story/poem/play times for many of us. Chantrelle, I know that feeling. The library issue. I mean come ON. Sad, undoubtedly!!

At 20:32 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

Nathalie! What a great problem to have!

My brain is made of mush tonight. I am trying to write a steampunk poem.

Too much has been happening in my life, and even though it's all good, it's hard for me to keep up. After a long separation, I'm finally getting a divorce from an ex who has had a kid with someone else and was a very bad ex of the worst sort. Because of New Orleans's laws, it's happening a lot faster than I expected. Now I have to try to grade papers and write my own graduate papers with my brain reeling.

At 14:11 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Deal done: that story is getting printed TWICE. The mind boggles, sizzles, crackles and pops.

Heee.

So what is Lorraine up to?
I get nervous when she disappears.
Also: I think a post about the new Night Garden Project needs to be written. Then maybe we could bribe our dear wedgoblin (aka Dan) to link to it on a certain missing author's blog?

At 14:50 Blogger Marjorie said...

That's great news about the story, Nathalie!

Perhaps Lorraine is plotting something. World domination, or the smiting of airlines. Something like that...

At 18:08 Blogger Jess said...

For the record, I am a little nervous about what might happen to the site if we ask Dan to do that. Quichie has promised to blog it, and I have sent her a gentle reminder. Now we will be patient. And do our daily RTs like good Fiends.

At 18:09 Blogger Phiala said...

We have unlimited bandwidth, but I do not think the servers can take a mention on Boss's blog, really.

We could try it and see what explodes...

At 21:08 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

When Lorraine is missing, I assume she's rocking on purpose.

At 21:11 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Congrats Nat..and EmLi - have I said congrats on your play yet?
My memory has gone on a holiday after my Monster Weekend.
Jess, I was scribbling down my ideas for the project yesterday while listening to the wonderful Mr W. Now to see if I can make those ideas come to life.

At 00:38 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Let us hope she is JUST busy...
Someone I follow on Twitter just tweeted that article about another benefit of excercise!

At 07:26 Blogger Jess said...

I dunno. As I mentioned, I pulled my butt doing sun salutations the other day, and it still hurts.

My butt! I pulled my own arse. How the hell do you do that?!

I think Q probably is just busy.

Not sure it's a good idea to ask Dan to plug us on the blog while the Boss is away. I realise he's in charge for the interim, but it's still Boss's blog. It would not be cricket of us to move in on it, however good the cause. Nor is it our place to expect that kind of help from Boss, given that we've not approached him about getting involved.

Plus, yes, our servers would explode. They got slow yesterday, and that was just from me having a few friends retweet. Baby steps, folks. Baby steps.

At 07:32 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

Hey!~ I have an idea! Okay, when "don't" I have an idea... but seriously.... I have an idea

Most of us have blogs and Twitter accounts. What if we each take a day to promote The Night Garden in our personal social media network. By taking turns it extends our reach over time. Plus, it keeps us from having one short big internet burst. What do you guys think?

At 08:27 Blogger Jess said...

That would certainly be an enormous help to me! There are plenty of ready-to-retweet tweets over on @nightgardenart to choose from, and we also have a Facebook page with convenient-to-share posts upon its wall.

At 08:45 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I intend to do this too (on LJ). It would be a nice change to plug something else than my own work.
By the way, I have written a recipe in shape of a story for the project. It needs editing though as I was exhausted when I wrote it (so much so that I actually wrote it instea of eating the end result which is rather silly).

At 08:49 Blogger Jess said...

THAT sounds really really really cool. I am excited by the idea of a genre-bending recipe story. More of that sort of thing!

You guys know we have a "culinary arts" section, don't you? Nothing but tumbleweeds and howling winds in there at the moment. Might be a nice way for those of you who've been hesitant to send anything in to get your feet wet... :)

At 08:52 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

Yes, and I am very interested in Genre Eating at the moment. I can't wait to make, I mean read, that story!

At 09:00 Blogger spacedlaw said...

The recipe is artichokes and aubergines. Jason finds them sexy. I find them delicious.

At 09:08 Blogger Jess said...

Sexy Interstitiality will be the name of my Prince tribute album.

At 09:26 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

I was watching a local TV show the other night and they were going around to eateries in the area showing off what goodies they had on the menu.

One shop had this incredible quiche. YUM. The owner of the shop slipped the baking ring from around the edge of the quiche and said with her lovely european accent, "And this is my sexy quiche."

I started laughing my butt off. My husband thought I was crazy. However, he did agree that the quiche was sexy. :-) LOL.

At 09:28 Blogger spacedlaw said...

The Quiche is HOT. Enough said.

At 10:40 Blogger Jess said...

At 10:46 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Yay for Night Garden scribblings!

I don't think I said congrats to Em...that is rocking on purpose ;-)

I helped launch the Webley-NG thing and I don't know what I"m doing for my project yet!

Hey, my comment last night didn't post so now i'm continuing....
Jess - your cover band comment made me laugh out loud!

I know nothing about sexy food, nope, of course not.

At 10:51 Blogger Cecily said...

I'm going to throw out there a concern for Quiche too...Has she been twittering? I haven't noticed any...

Maybe it's a case of while the Boss is away the Quiche will play?

Anyway sexy quiche...yes, my husband made me a quiche once that was purple. That was one sexy quiche.

At 10:59 Blogger DataGoddess said...

I think it might be the time of the month when she gets very quiet.

At 11:00 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Oh yes, it is because it's right before my "quiet time". (right, like i'm ever quiet)

At 11:01 Blogger dabbler said...

That was my guess as well. Missing her, though.

At 11:37 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

All right, girls. I need new pants and I have had it up to HERE with Victoria's Secret. Who do you like for pants?

At 16:06 Blogger Chantrelle said...

I can never find pants I like. That's how my skirt-tights-boots combo got started. I love my Diesel jeans but they're insanely expensive---which is why I onlyhave one pair. And i like my Lucky jeans that i got at a thrift store for $2.

I'm no help.

At 16:23 Blogger Jess said...

I don't mean "pants" as in "trousers". I mean, pants. You know. PANTS.

At 16:27 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Oh right...why would you buy trousers at Victoria's Secret? I mean they sell them in their catalog but they all look like hooker pants..i mean trousers. Hooker-trousers just doesn't work.

Anyway, i'm still buying and complaining about VS. Everytime i find a style i like, they change or discontinue it. I bought about 10 pairs of the same style but they all fit differently. Turns out I like the ones made in Jordan, not in China or Mexico. Not only do i have to check the style and size but the "Made in" label.

At 16:36 Blogger DataGoddess said...

I can't help much, I buy mine at Lane Bryant. Still waiting to find a pair that says "WIDE LOAD". And, yes, I would wear them. I like my ass, big as it is ;-)

At 16:38 Blogger Dragonsally said...

I'm no help in the pants department, what with being Down Ere and all - plus I get mine from the chain store. Also I have a drawer full of them because they keep changing the fit. That's my excuse because it can't be ME, right?

I played around with drawing for the new project yesterday. Really, it isn't my forte. But I have this really cool idea in my mind. *sigh*

Sends thoughts out to frolicking Fearless Leader...we miss you.

At 16:38 Blogger Marjorie said...

Hmm. Do you have Bravissimo over there? I like them. Also M&S.
I'm not helping, am I ?

At 16:41 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Hmmmm, my mind works in clearly Fiendish ways.

We could have an Underwear For Bengals drive....

That doesn't look as good in print as it did in my head.

At 16:48 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

I found out today that the city will be pretty much shut down for Mardi Gras. Which is fine, really. But, I'm not used to having a whole weekday off, let alone two. Even the Jewish charity I work for will be closed.

Two days off...

-stares of into the distance-

And, I found the best trousers ever at Lane Bryant. They were on sale for $15 a pair a few weeks ago.

At 16:50 Blogger Jess said...

Okay, we are really not going to have an underwear for bengals drive. DO NOT SEND YOUR PANTS. Janet doesn't want them.

I usually by the VS cotton ones when they're 5 for $25. Then they wear out in three months, and I get mad. Rrgh. :(

At 16:53 Blogger vampi said...

i am also having a pants issue. mine keep rolling down. they aren't too tight, they aren't lose, they just roll down at random times.

WTF.

oh we are sharing, right? i haven't crossed the line?

At 16:54 Blogger dabbler said...

Jess,

I'm partial to 100% cotton ones from Jockey...they have a covered elastic band, and are comfy and hold up well. I wore the hipster shape til I (err) outgrew them and now am stuck with briefs. I believe they also make some fancier pants. might e worth checking out. often have an outlet store in the mammoth, not-really-outlet malls, if you know what I mean.

At 16:56 Blogger dabbler said...

Addendum: I hadn't read your comment about wearing out. the Jockey ones I like wear for a LONG time. Like years, until the elastic goes.

At 16:57 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Errr, I meant art from underwear Jess....not sending them to Janet because that would just be wrong.
And Vampi - I have a few pairs that do the same thing. Very inconvenient.

At 17:06 Blogger Cecily said...

OK about time I took a break form work and showed up to talk about underwear...I just can't call them pants, panties, sure, but pants just feels wrong. I know if my dreams ever come true and I get to live in England this will have to change, but for now, they're underwear.

Anyway, I just pick up whatever is cheap and cute at Target. I also have a few pair that roll down. I think it's just certain cuts land right at the wrong space on me and roll. *shrug* Of course all of this is assuming that I am wearing underwear, which I normally am not. Hate the things.

At 17:10 Blogger Jess said...

Erm. Art from underwear. We're not talking, erm, used, are we? Because that'd be very Tracy Emin.

In any case I think I should point out that Chantrelle recently asked Ben's teacher about doing a Night Garden class project, which I think is a fabulous idea. But opening up the project to kids means that the Night Garden is no place for pants.

And speaking of pants, does no one make decent cotton pants which aren't thongs?? Come on! Rrgh. Pretty colors and patterns, yes. Thongy, no.

At 17:16 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Good lord no Jess.

So, no adult content for The Night Garden. Must remember that. *snerk*

At 17:23 Blogger Marjorie said...

Cecily, if you make it over here & wish to talk about your undergarments, you can call them knickers if you wish. Or underpants. Knickers are always female, pants can be male or female but I'd assume male unless context made it clear that they weren't. Underwear is more general & could include bras, vests, even socks or stockings, as well.

Panties always sounds slighty odd to me, I guess because it sounds like a baby-talk diminutive of pants, & I don't have that kind of affectionate relationship with my knickers..

At 17:26 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Well yes. We call them undies here, and jocks for the blokes.

I wonder when the countries developed their particular derivatives for underwear.

Gee, I am chatty this morning. Its Sally Spam day!

At 17:48 Blogger Cecily said...

Marjorie, I have always like the word knickers, but never used it, might have to start. :-)

If I do make it over, might be best that i try to avoid the conversation on knickers all together. Maybe if pressed I just refer to them as "those damn things".

When I think of the word panties I think of lingerie. Like when college boys would do 'panty raids'.

At 17:52 Blogger Erin Underwood said...

Whether it's pants, nickers, unders, panties, etc. I say go to Gap. All cotton. comfortable. good price. :-)

Yay for pants.

I left for a few minutes to have dinner and I come back and it's like my in box exploded with pants!

At 18:34 Blogger vampi said...

when i'm doing laundry they are called unders, because that works for both his and mine.

i use knickers on a regular basis, as well as panties and pants. you really can't have too many names for underthings.

My two cents on knickers: I have no butt. I have no hips. I either have to buy at Victoria's Secret or go to the girl's section. Yes, I'm rather petite especially in the rear.

I knew Neil went to China but Lorraine TOO?! What am I going to do with myself now!? I better go over there and take care of Maddy and the dogs and cats, right? Right. Only a 7 hour drive...

Hey! I kept waiting for Quiche to return and she has not...(hope she is at least having fun!!!) I get back here and there are unders everywhere!

(I think someone even left a pair hanging from the ceiling fan?!)

I prefer Jockey boy-cut that don't leave lines on your pants (trousers.) They are not too pricey and last a good long while.
And yes, I've experienced underwear roll and it is not a good thing...

At 21:06 Blogger Cecily said...

Pi, I used to wear those, but with my ass this wide they aren't as comfy. LOL

And...um...I guess I'll get those down...I mean they're not mine, but I am at least partly responsible for them getting up there...

Lorraine, I just sent you an e-mail about a bunch of cats that need some intervention. They are living on an island in the Mississippi River that is apparently about to be flooded when the snows melt. Help! Does anyone out there have any ideas? Is there a shelter in Minnesota or Wisconsin that takes out of county strays? Are there any job openings for neutered barn cats?

At 00:14 Blogger spacedlaw said...

You guys have been a chatty bunch!
And all this about underwear. Important subject to which however I can't really contribute.
Do you fiends with kitties in your life find that the wee beasties prefer used underwear - In the sense of T-shirts and camisole this time - to lounge upon?

At 00:16 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Oh yes. Tysie goes ape shit over used clothes. She especially loves the armpits of P's shirts. And shoes.

At 00:25 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Oh, yes, shoes. Caos is the shoes fetishist in the house.

Fruit of the Loom carries many different styles in 100% cotton, lasts for a couple of years (at least), and is inexpensive.

Testing, testing.

Just seeing if I can get a comment through this time. :)

Why hello there Ms T

At 04:23 Blogger Ms T said...

Yup, seems to be working now. :)

And all I wanted to say was that being built on the more *ahem* generous side, I'm a big (oops, no pun intended) fan of the local brand Thunderwear and their Thunderpants. Not the cheapest knickers, but they're really comfy, last for ages, and come in interesting colours and prints. Oh, and they used to have the tagline "Thunderpants. They won't go up your bum."

(I can't believe I can wax on about undies...sheesh!)

At 04:24 Blogger Ms T said...

Hello to you too! *waves back to Sally*

I'm trying, but failing, to remember the title of an old courtroom drama in which the judge pulls the lawyers aside to discuss finding a term besides "panties", since everyone in the room keeps tittering. One lawyer says he knows a French word, but that like all French words for such things, it's rather "suggestive".

I like cheap old Hanes myself.

And yes, my cat like used clothes of all descriptions. I usually leave a used nightgown on the bed when I go away, so she can lay on it.

At 09:41 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

Serious Black is my shoe fetishist. Sometimes it looks like he's trying to dig head first into my shoes. Kitty prefers sitting on things when it's inconvenient, like books, newspapers, magazines, and my computer.

At 09:48 Blogger Cecily said...

Mine do love worn clothes, of course Westley really has a thing for just washed hair. He will stand on Mr.Ceci's shoulders and love his hair for as long as he can get away with. And he has been a shoe cat since he was a kitten. I have many pictures of him "hiding" in my shoes. Unfortunately for him, they are sandals, and hiding is not really a possibility.

At 09:53 Blogger Phiala said...

My cat is a freak. He prefers freshly-washed damp laundry that hasn't made it to the dryer yet.

Possibly because cat fur sticks better.

At 09:55 Blogger One Sock Short said...

His clone likes that too. Sweaters that have to lay flat to dry always get an extra coating of Phoebe fur.

At 10:18 Blogger Jane said...

Still on underwear? I looked online to find my favorites and evidently they are no long available. But as I have enough to last forever, no worries.

Susan the cat loves Steve's used T-shirts. She pulls them out of the laundry basket and WALLOWS in them - obscene, really, how she goes on about them...

Seren, while examining my head: Mom. You're getting a lot of gray hairs.

Me: Yep. You put them there.

Seren: . . . No, I didn't.

At 11:45 Blogger Cecily said...

We tell our girls they are to blame for David hair. The eldest is thinning it, the middle one turning it grey, and the youngest making it recede. The middle one has done the most work on it. ;-)

At 12:18 Blogger Pi R Squared said...

Years and years ago I had a lovely man w/ the smelliest work socks ever! (He was forbidden from putting them in the hamper where they would contaminate everything.) Our cat at the time LOVED these socks...and would roll in them...the stinkier the better! I swear he was getting high off those suckers!

I know that that's not exactly what you meant, but I'm stickin' to it!

I usually just quietly read and chuckle to myself when reading Lorraine's blog and comments, but you are hilarious with this talk of underwear/pants/undies/etc.

And the Gray. Yes, all the hairs turn. None remain faithful. My children also deny putting the hairs there, but it's most certainly their doing. Sneaky wolflings.

At 14:17 Blogger vampi said...

i don't know 'bout the gray, my hair is artificially coloured. i don't think i'd mind grey. i would probably put some streaks in it though.

back to knickers, maybe i should upgrade form the hanes/fruit of hte loom form target. i haven't tried vickie's secrets as i get irritated their cute bras don't come in my size. bras are a whole different issue. *sigh*

At 14:30 Blogger Cecily said...

Vampi, if/when I go grey, I hope to get a bright white streak right in the front.

I also can't do VS. I was told over and over again how nice they were and that every time you go in they ask you if you've been measured and help you out. Well a few years ago I had some lumps removed and I had to get a wireless bra for post surgery and I had never been fitted for a bra so I wanted to make sure I had the right thing, as to not hurt post-op. Well I stood there like a lost puppy trying to find anything in a D cup for a good 20 minutes. When someone finally did see fit to help me, she never asked about fitting me, even when I said I wasn't sure what size I needed. Then after she humiliated me by making a big deal about how big a 40D was and how unlikely it was that they had something that large, she disappeared to the back. When she reemerged finally, she handed me two bras said it was the only thing they had that big and left me standing there completely a mess. I'll stick with Target even if I never actually find out what size bra I am supposed to be in. hardly wear the things anyway. Hate them more than I hate knickers.

At 15:02 Blogger Jane said...

Cecily, is there a Nordstrom's near you? They can fit you. And their service is excellent.

Grey eyebrows, yes.

At 16:26 Blogger Cecily said...

There is a Nordstrom's near me, but I am fairly dubious about going to any store to get fitted. it was not a pleasant experience.

At 17:31 Blogger LihuaEmily said...

Gray tends to be cool. Not on everyone, I guess. But a lot of the time.

At 17:38 Blogger Jane said...

I think VS is not for everyone - I had a hard time getting adequate bra fitting assistance in there as well and I'm a 34 C. Easy to fit! But I'm not the right age group...

Nordstrom's is different. They're adults, at the store near me, anyway.

At 18:54 Blogger LihuaEmily said...

Urgh, bra shopping ... I hate it.

At 19:34 Blogger Cecily said...

Jane I will keep that in mind when I bite the bullet and go buy more bras.

At 21:04 Blogger Pi R Squared said...

Bras are evil!!!

(You so know they were invented by men...)

At 23:06 Blogger ariandalen said...

JC Penney and Dillards advertise bra fittings, too. They have specific times during the year that they advertise free bra fittings. I don't know that the fittings aren't free at other times, I'm just repeating their ad copy.

And Seren, once again, asserted that she wasn't giving me more gray hairs.

At 23:41 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Which reminds me I really should get some new black ones, as the elasticity sand support seem to have gone from 2/3 of them. I need to find a real shop. Most brands here only sell the decorative stuff (and breast padding ones too!) and I value my back much more that that.

At 07:18 Blogger LihuaEmily said...

I don't think bras are evil. I think they are helpful. This doesn't mean the folks that make them don't suck. Also, like jeans, the sizes vary too much for any normal human being.

At 08:47 Blogger One Sock Short said...

I desperately need new bras, but they're too dang expensive to get them now, when I'm not done shrinking. I plan on getting a real fitting when I'm done, so I'll keep the Nordstrom recommendation in mind.

I guess I'm weird, since I don't like *not* wearing one. They feel so heavy, and I'm small. And they were actually considered a scandalously liberating undergarment when they first came out, since they replaced corsets ;-)

At 09:05 Blogger LihuaEmily said...

OSS, to be honest, I am small and, well, I don't like not wearing one either!

At 09:59 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

I'm also in the too big category. I've wandered around without a bra then waffled because they're too heavy to be flying in the breeze. I'm the last of the late, great bra sale shoppers. I wait until bras are on sale at Lane Bryant, then buy two or three. I also wear out bras like nobody's business. The underwire will either snap or break out of its casing and stab me in the boob.

At 10:27 Blogger Pi R Squared said...

It's really hard for me to find bras that fit properly. Had a reduction nearly 10 years ago and can't wear underwires (try finding them w/out? I always have to remove them.) They also seem to believe that someone w/ my rib size has knockers of an uncanny cup size I no longer fill...so I need to buy them smaller and they are beyond uncomfortable.
I will wear a bra to work...but beyond that? The girls are free.

At 11:08 Blogger Phiala said...

My Target has sports bras right now that are (for me) comfortable and well-sized. Looks like S thru XXL, and in hot pink, bright blue, bright green, bright purple, as well as gray and black. They're champion brand. In my store they get a display table of their own right now.

They aren't heavy for running, but would be great for yoga and general wear. There's enough coverage that I'd be comfortable wearing one without a shirt for swimming/yoga/dance. I got one last week and just went back for two more, and plan to THROW AWAY the rest of my old sports bras.

Since we were on the topic and all. :)

At 11:28 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I have looked at sport bras but they look so shapeless I never could believe they might ever sustain anything of any substantial weight.

At 11:36 Blogger Phiala said...

Sports bras vary a lot. Cheap ones aren't good for much, usually. The heavy-duty ones don't have much shaping because they offer a lot of compression to prevent bouncing during high-impact activities.

The ones I got have some shaping, offer good support, and are quite comfortable. And they're VERY bright! :)

At 11:38 Blogger Cecily said...

I used to love sports bras, but now they all seem to have that silly uni-strap thing that goes between the shoulder blades. Those give me headaches from where they rub on my neck/shoulders.

At 11:47 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I tend to like turbo shaped. You know, the type of heavy engineered bras that make your breast look like they have been sharpened to a deadly weapon. They aren't particularly sexy but offer great support.

At 13:28 Blogger vampi said...

ah i do have some of those bras from target as well. i like them, but they do the uniboob thing . i wish they loked better under tshirts, because then i could wear them ont he weekend. i actually like to wear them when i go on vacation as my sleep in top. this way if i have to go walking in the common area, the girls are not throwing a dance party under my shirt.

i thought i had found soem good cotton playtex bras from target, but after a few wears, the wire misshapes and starts being all pokey.

At 13:33 Blogger One Sock Short said...

My work here is done. Mind you, all I did was say PANTS. You're a very suggestive bunch. Must use this power for good. And pants.

It's easy to say that bras are evil, till you try to run down the stairs without one.

At 14:24 Blogger Cecily said...

I spend the majority of my time without a bra on. The only time I really have a problem is when I am playing on the Kinect. I know I am an oddball, but the normal bounce without a bra just feels right to me.

At 19:08 Anonymous Wendy Withers said...

I've got a grey tshirt bra on. I'm pretty bad about wearing just my bra around the house. It's because I've convinced myself that that's all I have to wear when the window's open and the blinds may or may not be covering the window adequately.

And Q - happy to see you resurface. We get a little nuts when you go away.

I like under-wire and found a Bali bra I like so much I bought them everywhere. Every store I went in. Usually would find about 2 of my size and would buy them both. They have stopped making them (I think) but I have lots of them :-) I mean like 25 or more...can you say overkill? But I got really tired of buying 1 or 2 and then never finding them again. So not this time.

And uniboob - I have that in yoga bras. Not my favorite look :-)

Welcome back, Lorraine! See what happens when you leave us all alone. We end up in the knicker drawer. :)

And on that note...boy, can I relate to the tales of rogue underwires. I seemed to be having major bad bra karma at the end of last year, including one bout that ended in an emergency shopping trip during my lunch break, and another that had me crossing my fingers that the underwire I had just stuffed back into its casing didn't make another escape attempt while I did my turn in a very public setting. Considering we're supposed to blend in with the furniture, it would not have been a good look! (I guess it would be kind of like the upholstry coming unsprung.)
