Well, Hello Again....

Well Hello there...Missed you. It's been like a tomb over here and I've got to take the blame on this one, it's just that sometimes, TIME is not there and I start thinking, tomorrow, and oh, I have a great idea for a blog, need to write that, and as soon as I get home...

Today tho, there is TIME. It may not be everyone's idea of a perfect Holiday, but I've been kind of excited for a couple weeks now about the idea of having a few days with little work responsibilities, and getting ALL THE THINGS done. You know, the things there are never time for, like that cupboard that's degenerated into chaos, the Hoarder closet, the basement Laundry of Doom. And it's certainly time to move all the furniture around again. Spooky House likes order. And change.

This is what it looks like now, three Bengals in front of the fire.

I even turned down all the invites today, for company, wonderful food and fun. I love you for them, but sometimes you just need to be HOME, in your own house and you know, do things. I really like that feeling of coming home and feeling relaxed and good, rather than the "Oh-gods-there-is-so-much-to-do-what-a-mess" feeling.

SO, been a while since we were here, eh? I think there are a LOT of things I haven't been telling you except in brief Twitter and FB.

I got to go down to North Central Regionials in October, to see some amazing skating and of course, Joan of Dark and company. Here's Joan and I and the Dragon Tattoos, hers inspired mine. The seriously unfortunate green hair is no longer. I look like something that has been living IN the sea for too long with the Sea Dragons. These things happen tho...Concentrate on the tattoos.

And yes, I do want MORE...

The Chippewa Valley Roller Girls (which yes, would be MY team) have had two Bouts so far this season, with another coming up December 10th, and I have to tell you I am LOVING Bout Production. I may have been dragged into this unwilling, but now having two under my belt, I love it. I get this, and have to laugh that I joined Derby for lots of reasons, but in part to do something other than work, and get away from my day job, and ended up doing a job for the league that is EXACTLY my job.

Which I'm good with. I'm not a good skater yet. No, really. Not rocking the FIT these days, not eating right at all, and got off track on things. This can be fixed, and will, but since this blog has always been about being honest with you about the FIT journey, I have to say, yeah, one of those times I'm sure not making any progress.

But I will. In the meantime, I am very happy to do whatever I can for the league. Because I love it. And THAT is Derby.

All the skater photos are by David Dyer Bennet, who we love and has become CVRG's personal photographer. I love the photo above, as it looks like Arm and Slam'er is holding off an entire pack on her own, and doing quite nicely.

Here's Stunt Double, Slam'er, Calla Doc and Shawtown Shankher being very sure that red jammer is NOT getting by.

Derby eats your life. And if you ever get involved in it, and you CAN, no matter if you skate or not, but the way, you WILL be glad of this. I know I'm happier than I've ever been, having this family, and Derby IS family. I feel pretty normal now, which is funny if you think on it, going all the way to Derby to feel like a regular person for once.

The picture below is Medium Rare, aka Pinky Jamming. That grin on her face? Yup. That's exactly how it feels.

I'll try and Blog more, I know we like being here together, and I love you all as well, and really love hearing from you, your comments, and just what is going on with you, because, it helps me, makes me happy, and before Derby, there was YOU. Which means more than I can say. Stick with me here, ok? Wouldn't be the same with out you. I tell you things I've never told anyone else.

Leaving you with a poem by Kimm Schroeder which I saw and loved. Pretty much sums up a lot of things....She got it in one.

Toe is on the line.

One minor. Got it, Thanks ref.
The chic next to me, is she fast?
Fist bump.
Staring down the barrel...

The pack is tracking me.
I have to track 9.
I am only one.
Staring down the barrel...

What's her distance, what's her speed.
Juke her, check her. Fast, fast feet.
Staring down the barrel...

Am I the bullet or the target?

Love and Back now,

Lorraine aka Quiche MeDeadly

Glad you are loving life at the speed of skate. Your enthusiasm is contagious as always. Thank you for that.

  4. Rock on, Medeadly. Also send some hot beverage out here to the bushes. It's nippy.

And open the blinds a little more.

And put on the shark pants.

    There's a good girl.

  5. Well hey! It's funny, but Facebook, while useful, is still, you know, not the Quiche blog.

The tattoo is fully and magnificently ... magnificent.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and the Bengals!

  6. Why hello there - been missing everyone. Happy Thanksgiving to you all - your way of spending it seems perfect to me Quiche.

Annnnd. Is Boss gonna bring you down here? Can I put in that request? It will be lovely weather.

I must tell you all about the fabulous things happening in the next 2 months, to offset the awful which some of you know about. Going to a Boss talkafest on Dec 16. Dresden Dolls gig on Jan 8, Doctor Who extravaganza with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra on Feb 4 (I'm praying that we might get a surprise appearance by Matt Smith, which would make my year) and finally Tim Minchin on Feb 8. Then I might just sleep for a month.

  7. Hey there. You sound happy :-)
The adventure of your life is amazing and I never grow tired of hearing about it.
We had the family Thanksgiving at my brother's, sibs, SOs, nieces and nephews, their SO and everyone's children. There were only about 21 people, there were several missing. But we had lots of fun.
Happy Thanksgiving, all, however you spent it :-)

  8. So glad to hear from you Quiche!

I fed 10 people, too much food, lots of fun and now I'm collapsed.

But so grateful for food and friends and fiends.

(and hugs for Sally, for the awful whatever.)

  9. You'll get back on track, Lorraine! And by the way, you look FANTASTIC in those pics! Good on you! :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Of course will be here. Duh.

Glad life is going well, even if we don't get to hear about it so much.

I hope everyone had a lovely day, and is on for a lovely weekend. As for me, I will be taking my girls to see the Dark Crystal AND Labyrinth on the big screen tomorrow. (Of course they were raised on both of these movies, so they won't be 'new', but they will be ON THE BIG SCREEN.)

  13. Glad you're having fun. And that the Bengals are enjoying the fireplace together .

I'm sure the Fit will get back on track - you know it's possible, now, which is a great motivator.

I love seeing the Derby pics-it's so clear everyone is enjoying being themselves and doing their thing!

Finally - Sally, so glad you have good stuff to look forward too. And I hope the awful stays copeable-with.

  14. i'm glad you found your people ar derby:)

green isn't necessarily a bad hair colour, but i can see you not liking it. you have to be fully committed to green.

  15. Hi Lorraine! Greetings!

Sometimes life just goes at the speed of life, ya know? And one just needs to live it.

FIT can always be fixed, but you sound happy and that's the important thing!

To skating, Bengals and those things that we all need...we'll be here.

  16. Well, I worked out with a Derby SIster this morning, wasn't MY idea, but I'm really glad I went and did it, it feels so good AFTER, lol. My broken finger didn't like a lot of it, so only one arm got worked out, the Sea Dragon arm took the day off.

Then I went and did my Black Friday Shopping. At Kmart. Needed a new shower curtain. Asked the Kmart guy in the parking lot of it was still Black Friday and did he think there were still shower curtains and were they on sale. He told me there were some people camped out for them, but he thought there would be a FEW left, lol.

AND I brought in all the ceramic plant pots. AM I on fire or WHAT???

    Nap now...

  28. Yay a new blog! Hello fiends :o)

Completely agree with needing that 'oh good I'm home' sensation rather than that 'oh fods I'm home' sinking feeling. We are still in the 'transformation phase' of turning our house into our home, which means there is DIY stuff & general upheaval in most rooms. But I've given up being stressed about it, we'll do it in time, we also need to have a life and some fun!

Anyway I am going on road trip right now, to the Netherlands with my parents for a reunion with friends we haven't seen for YEARS! So excited. Happy belated thanksgiving to everyone, hope you & yours are well and happy xx

  29. My friend Slam'er is coming over this week to do ALL THE THINGS here in the Spooky House that I am clueless about, sometime this week, very exciting. They've been piling up and I need some help here, like changeing the dryer vent, boarding up the crawl space...Getting the window shade to stay UP..

You know THINGS. And Slam'er is real handy like that.

    ReplyDelete
  30. And she can handle a chainsaw. The perfect friend.

    ReplyDelete
  31. She sounds amazing, I could do with finding a friend like that...could you send her over to the UK when she's finished on your house? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. She CAN chainsaw. Very skilled women.

I am sure she would LOVE to come to the UK, Hellie, I'll ask her. She can travel from Fiend to Fiend...

    ReplyDelete
  33. i wonder what the tsa would do if someone travelled with a chainsaw...

    ReplyDelete
  34. yes 0 gtraveelling from fiend to fiend is an excellent idea. With or without a chain-saw.

  35. There was a Roller Derby girl in the "Providence Phoenix" last week. She had the classic "sexy librarian" glasses and showed a lot of cleavage and was dubbed something like, "Derby Girl of the month" ...

    ReplyDelete
  36. What? Derby takes over your life? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes, Allie Gator, it does. Trust me, if you ever decide to pursue Derby seriously, you will find this out ;)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Had a long to-do list for the holiday weekend. Got all of one thing done. Otherwise, tick and run, well shamble.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hi Fiends!

I spent the weekend making curtains: two enormous picture windows and two doors are now properly covered in matching and insulating fabric. It's Nick's mother's Christmas present this year.

I also ate a fair bit of pie, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hello! Good morning! Happy Derby practice!

What a crazy month it's been for everybody it seems. At least we wave at each other on twitter.
It's so much easier to post there than to write up a big blog, I understand that. But yes, I miss everyone here...it's different in here than out there in the tweetybox.

We were away for the thanksgiving weekend and now i have many bags to unpack, laundry to do and work to get done on the interwebs.

    Ah life.

  41. I'm home miserably sick and all alone. I need someone to come make me tea and administer some serious TLC. And bring tissues.

    ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh No Cecily! Again wish we were all closer together so we could pop by!

I like the idea of people hopping from fiend to fiend.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh me too. We need to establish a Fiend Exchange Program.

Which shortens to FEP, and I desperately want to replace the last word with one that starts with a Z so it could be FEZ, because Fez's are cool.

This is what my brain does when I am sick...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Poor Cecily. Sorry you're sick.

    Feel better soon.

    ReplyDelete
  45. But on the other hand your KEEP AMAZE and CARRY BALLS has made the T-shirt stage!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I know! I am so excited! And if I wasn't all sick I would be much more active with my excitement.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ceci, that was your idea? well then, double reason why I must now go and buy the shirt *spins in excitement* I hope you're feeling better soon. Maybe we could name the program Fiend Exchange Zone - and then we have FEZ? Yes?

Distract me my dear Fiends. I desperately need distraction.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Help - where are the sizing guides for the tshirt?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yep that was my brain child! It is one thing that has made me very smiley. :-)

I can't guarantee that this will be exactly but here is a sizing chart used for Think Geek

    http://www.thinkgeek.com/help/sizing-info.shtml

    ReplyDelete
  50. I don't have much to offer for distractions, went to the gym and now am a zombie. Long day.

Amazing rocks dropped in the Dodgeball game that is my life...

(I have a theory that Assistanting and Bout Production are like a game of Dodgeball where things get lobbed at you from all sides and you have to lob them back only sometimes to make it more interesting, a ROCK will come down from time to time and you not only have to avoid them, but you have to get the rocks off the court, without getting hit.)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Distraction: On Netflix, in the USA, there is an animated show called "Ruby Gloom." It was made in Canada a few years ago, and there are three seasons. I don't know if it is on any other service, or if it is on YouTube, but even my DH can't help but grin every time he thinks of the theme song. :)

    I want a Doom Kitty. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. If you decide to listen to an audiobook, Alina Simone's for example, on your tablet, which is not lightweight, and you're on the treadmill with it propped on the little book reader dealy, don't get your hand caught in the headphones cord and pull the tablet down on to your toe. This will be painful and make your toe purple.

Just my research for the day to help you all out just in case you were wondering.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Just stopping by to send ya love, Q -- I'm thinking about doing something fun with my hair (streaking it or dying the bottom pink -- or hennaing the whole thing), which made me think of you.

I'm glad that you're doing well -- and gosh, you look so happy in your photo. :-)

  58. I __love__ the image of Assistanting as Dodgeball ! I've always imagined Assistanting geniuses (genei??) like you to be those guys on the Ed Sullivan show who used to keep a million spinning plates from wobbling on their sticks, but you are so right about the rocks falling from above!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Just passing through to say i miss you guys! I'm so insanely busy...a lot of fun stuff but stuff nonetheless.

    Hope you're all well!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I was wondering, what color is the hair currently Quiche?

Mine is currently rainbow, but that is soon to be gone. I am going to dye my hair ...brown. I want to find a deep chocolatey/mahogany color. Which will be a first for me. I have dyed my hair every color except brown. And this is the one I most nervous about. How weird is that?!
