Yay for Beeeeeessssss! :) Have fun! Hope they like their new digs! Take many pix!

At 09:11 Blogger Jess said...

Yay! Buzz, bzzz, bzzzzzzz.

At 09:13 Blogger One Sock Short said...

And there was much rejoicing!

Looking forward to hearing all the details. Will be thinking of you petting, patting, and smoothing out the bees in all your gloveless glory. And, hey, if that doesn't happen, I still say you're a brave and inspiring fiend.

At 09:19 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Please note that we will require a full update. With pictures.
Don't let the little buggers sting you. If they try it, threaten them of suppressing their cappuccino.

At 09:20 Blogger Jess said...

Honeybees and ticks
do not mix. Inside a box,
might they fight with sticks?

*ticks*

At 09:22 Blogger Lyndyn said...

I concur, OSS! :)

At 09:25 Blogger Lyndyn said...

"Speaking of ticks," she said, ticking the ticky box, "I found a tick last weekend crawling on my arm at 1:30 in the morning - it woke me out of a dead sleep. I picked it up during my jaunt in the woods hunting mushrooms. SoOOOooo GrooOOOoossssss!"

Hm... want video of Dan wiggling his butt.

Bees,Bees,Bees We's excited about bees.

Looking forward to longer post with pictures later.

Have lots of fun, and don't get stung

FOUR Boxes of bees....

At 10:21 Blogger Marjorie said...

This suddenly makes me think of the poem about TweetleBeetles...

At 10:26 Blogger Jess said...

That's a lot of bees! Is that all of them-- Russian and Italian bees?

All this Blue Peter talk made me go dig out the manwife's Blue Peter badge-- he got one for drawing a poster for an exhibition at the Museum of Natural History. (He says he wasn't a main winner-- his entry was one of the top 2000 or something.) It's disappointingly small, but it does say "Competition Winner", and has a ship on it. :D

At 10:37 Blogger Marjorie said...

Jess, is it round or Shield-shaped?

At 10:38 Blogger Arwenn said...

It's amazing (and wonderful) the number of dvds that have Blue Peter shows as extras. I think I've seen them for Dr. Who and David Attenborough and probably others.

At 10:41 Blogger AletaMay said...

Hurray for bees!

At 10:48 Blogger Jess said...

Marjorie - It's round. :)

At 11:19 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Bzzzzz! Buzzzz buzzzzzzz buuuuzzzzz!!

Hopefully I didn't just say something offensive in beeish!

*wanders off singing Eric the Half A Bee*

At 11:23 Anonymous Kate said...

Yay for bees! Looking forward to hearing about it all.
"That buzzing-noise means something. You don't get a buzzing-noise like that, just buzzing and buzzing, without its meaning something. If there's a buzzing-noise, somebody's making a buzzing-noise, and the only reason for making a buzzing-noise that I know of is because you're a bee." - A.A.Milne
How exciting!

At 11:31 Blogger Lyndyn said...

Yay for Pooh quotes!! :)

At 11:34 Blogger Ani said...

Do these bees know that they have a fan club?
:)

At 11:38 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Sadly, this is NOT panning out well for me. Have the mother of all migraines and have admitted defeat. Hans and Biirdchick drove me home, couldn't make it on my own.

FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Need dark room now.

At 11:40 Blogger Dan Guy said...

Oh no! =(

I hope you feel better soon.

At 11:47 Blogger AletaMay said...

Hugs Q!

So sorry. Wish you dark room rest and healing.

At 11:48 Blogger Phiala said...

Oh, Q! Ow! And horrible timing. Not that there is a good time for such things, of course.

May darkened rooms and good drugs do their thing quickly!

At 11:49 Blogger Arwenn said...

Yikes!!

What a shame..and after so much anticipation. Perhaps organs and bees within 72 hours of each other are just too much for even Fabulous people.

There will be more bees......take care!!!!

At 11:50 Blogger Lyndyn said...

Ohhhhh....I get those...they suck. I take Midrin for them - low side effects and it works for mine luckily.

At 11:51 Blogger Jess said...

Oh, ouch, Q! Get some Dark Room and Rest. The bees can wait. It's not like they're leaving any time soon. :)

At 11:52 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Oh noooo!
I think it must be the stress from yesterday playing havoc with you.
Get some rest.
Hugs.

At 12:01 Blogger Rubius said...

Happy Beeing

At 12:02 Anonymous Kate said...

Oh, Q - I had a migraine yesterday. Barometric Pressure? Tension? Boo headaches!

Dark, quiet, medications(?)

Be well.

At 12:02 Blogger Rubius said...

oh... just caught up on the comments... sorry to hear you are feeling poorly today Quiche. Hope the dark helps. Hope the migraine flits away on the wind.

At 12:17 Blogger Ticia said...

Oh noes! No migraine... ((hugs)) and a dark soothing room for you.

At 12:27 Anonymous kali_licious said...

Oh no, what a day to get a migraine!
It's horrid how they show up on days when you want to Get Things Done. (especially if they are Fun Things).

Time to cuddle up with the Bengals in a nice dark room. Feel better soon Lorraine!:)

At 12:37 Blogger hope said...

Ow, Lorraine, I feel your migraine. So sorry!

Adri, how are you doing, and are you sporting red fingernails?

Siri, how is your washing machine?

Phiala, Grendel has such a sweet face, what a nice photo!

At 12:42 Blogger Siri said...

Totally off topic - who needed a ride from the airport on June 26 really really late - after 11? I can't remember.

Q - sorry for your head. Darkened room - no noise. Yeah, right.

I'm also wondering about the Blue Peter Badge, Marjorie.

At 12:43 Blogger Adri said...

Oh, no, Q! Beejoy ruined by migraine. I hope you're in the dark with a cold compress and good drugs. If the vertigo and/or light-sensitivity isn't too bad, I usually try to read or play a quiet video game to distract. I know that's not always possible, though. (video games for pain management = win)

Hope -- thanks for asking. My nails are red and I'm feeling better today. Escapism is helping, at least in the short term. :)

At 12:48 Blogger One Sock Short said...

{Lorraine}

May it be the shortest of all possible short migraine.

At 12:56 Blogger One Sock Short said...

On a much less important note, are other fiends on Twitter getting a lot of new followers in the last few days who are then quickly suspended? I'm wondering if there's just a bunch of these overall, or if I've innocently used words that attract them. Like the time I googled for instructions on wearing a master's hood. Highly (ahem) unexpected results from that one.

At 12:56 Blogger Marjorie said...

((Q)) So sorry about Migraine. Hope darkened room and drugs help & you feel better soon.

Siri, what were you wondering?

At 12:58 Blogger Phiala said...

OSS, it's twitter spam bots. Nothing you did, they just try to get as many people as possible before being caught.

At 13:01 Blogger Marjorie said...

OSS I seem to get a lot - the few i've clicked on the profile for mostyl seem to have a single tweet with a link to a blog/page with a title about having the best sex evar... mostly I think it's random. (either that or there are a lot of words which have secondary meanings I'm not familiar with...)

Did get a discount mattress shop following me after responding to Hans' midnight man carrying mattress tweet - but as it is in the USA I suspect their promises of low delivery costs do not apply to me ...

At 13:09 Blogger ariandalen said...

Oh. So here's all the buzz. ;)

::ducking::

Hope your migraine dissipates sooner rather than later, Ms. Fabulous.

At 13:17 Blogger vampi said...

i also use midrin for my migraines, and it works awesomely. so sorry you have a bad migraine. comforting healing thoughts heading your way.

today was tough. ugh. lets just say i don't like reviews. and none werre even really bad, but i just hate the confrontation.

At 13:17 Blogger Ticia said...

OSS I had no idea you were on twitter. If any fiends are on twitter, I want to follow them.

@ticia42 me and I'll follow you.
:-D

At 13:20 Blogger EmilyLady said...

It's the bees, right? The computer is showing only half the post again. I take it from the rest of the comments that the bees are indeed coming. Or have come. Probably have come. Right?

Hooray hooray hooray for bees!!

At 13:27 Blogger ariandalen said...

The bees arrived this morning, Emily.

Today's post is just one sentence. :)

At 13:29 Blogger spacedlaw said...

Have come, Emily, Sharon twitted pictures of the boxes.

There are a lot of spambots on twitter (just had one that says "tie me up"!). They seem to come up in waves. And they disappear. Ignore or block them.

At 13:31 Blogger Phiala said...

If you block the spambots the accounts get deleted faster.

At 13:56 Blogger louisa said...

Those boxes of bees look amazing, wish we could hear what they sound like.

Hope you're feeling better Empress Q

At 14:20 Blogger EmilyLady said...

I've been getting lots of Twitter spam - women in my town who are totally into sex. I'm getting about three e-mails a day now telling me that Cassie/Alice/Nora is Following me. I Block.

At 14:30 Blogger Ani said...

Oh, Q, so sorry to hear about the migraine. I get them, too. Hope the darkness drives it away soon!

OSS-I've circumvented the unwanted followers on Twitter by locking my account. Anyone who wants to follow me or see my updates has to ask my permission. That way no one who I don't know or *do* know and don't want in My Biz-Ness (buzz-ness?) can't get in there. Check into your settings.

Fiends, BTW, are welcome. I just have to recognize you when you "knock." :) I can be found at andrearundell.

At 14:33 Blogger Ani said...

Wow--a second glance at my last post comes up with too many negatives to be followed. ummm oops? {sheepish toe dig} hope it made sense anyhoo.

At 15:01 Blogger Uisge said...

I'm so excited and they are not even MY bees. Just love them.

Night, Marjorie.

Peaceful dark and sleep to Fablo, and pain free awakening.

At 16:51 Blogger dabbler said...

Heh. the NYTimes has a brief article on a man named Stephen Johnson: "In discussing his often fantastical, sometimes silly, sometimes visionary concepts, he has said, “If I could use two words to describe what it is that I enjoy it is that I love to be sneakily outrageous . . . [It may be that] I have decided an idea has no practical worth and would never be likely to be adopted seriously (like most of my ideas), but I like it anyway.”

Perhaps he'll go down in history as Bloody Stupid....

Q, I hope by now your migraine has dissipated. OSS - have you had your name added to the twitter list Jeff set up here? And anyone else too?

Off to Twitter now to see all about bees. No, I might have my breakfast first.

At 18:31 Anonymous Kate said...

Hope you are feeling better, Lorraine.

I too have been twitter spammed a lot lately @tabor330 on twitter for others. I block quickly.

Bees!

At 18:33 Blogger Dragonsally said...

just added you Kate

At 19:04 Anonymous Kate said...

I see you there, Dragonsally and Ticia!

At 19:08 Blogger Siri said...

I'm not gonna twit - you can't make me.

Just felt the need to reiterate that.

Marjorie wrote: Siri, what were you wondering? I was wondering who wrote on a post several days ago that she needed a ride from the airport on June 26 really really late - after 11? I can't remember. I was going to see if anyone followed up on that.

Now, I know Marjorie went to bed 3 hours ago, but she'll see this sometime. Blast that whole earth turning thing.

At 19:09 Blogger Lyndyn said...

I added you on twitter, Ticia - I'm @lyndynn.

At 19:17 Blogger Ticia said...

Siri, I know that Vampi and I are both arriving (seperately) after 11 pm on Friday, but I think we're just geting a room in MN and driving in the next morning.

At 19:22 Blogger Siri said...

Well, I'm just saying that I believe there is a gig that night at some bar in Stillwater, and I'll probably be there, but I won't be drinking, and I wouldn't mind making an airport run, because I'll know the place by then, and well, if you can join the party earlier, would you want to?

(I drive a CRV, which isn't as Pretty as Phiala's Forrester, but it would fit you both.....)

At 19:31 Blogger Ticia said...

I have a CRV too! They rock! Let me see if I can get the room one night earlier.. :-D

At 19:43 Blogger Ticia said...

Yay! I have my room for Friday - Tuesday. Thanks Siri!

At 19:45 Blogger Siri said...

Now we just need to get Vampi on board, and we have yet ANOTHER party!

At 19:47 Blogger Ticia said...

I just emailed her. :-D

At 19:52 Blogger Ticia said...

Oh, and how rude of me...

I've added all of you wonderful fiends to my twitter roster. We should have fun.

At 20:00 Blogger gaypet said...

Poop to the migraine! I hope you are better soon. Like, now.

At 20:06 Blogger Chantrelle said...

Wow, that's how the bees come through the post office!? Crazy!

Sorry your head is imploding Q :(

Ben woke up at an ungodly hour this morning. We did our usual Tuesday library/lunch and swim class. Got home, read some books and both fell asleep on his bed. He's still out. I should get him up as it's 6pm and his bedtime is 8!!

At 20:48 Blogger Lyndyn said...

OK...I'm following a bunch of ya's! (or as they say in pittsburgh - y'uns. :) )

At 20:50 Blogger One Sock Short said...

I think I've caught up with adding tweeting fiends. I'll double-check tomorrow. I'm simultaneously trying to acclimate to TweetDeck, and am feeling out-of-synch. Now I think an early night is called for. Didn't get nearly enough done tonight, but did end up forming a lap more often than I intended. Once again, the cat gets her way. G'night.

At 20:52 Blogger Ticia said...

Good night OSS!! Sleep tight.

At 21:12 Blogger Jess said...

No, no, Lyndyn. That's "Yinz," not "y'uns." (But I don't say that.) :D

At 21:17 Blogger Adri said...

Don't y'all mean 'y'all'? :D

At 21:26 Blogger Lyndyn said...

LOL...you are right, Jess!!

In PGH, its y'ins Adri! :D

At 21:31 Blogger Dragonsally said...

has the princess bee survived her migraine?

At 02:22 Blogger Marjorie said...

Good Morning all.

Kate, I've added you on twitter.

At 05:28 Blogger Dan Guy said...

Good morning, fiends!

I hope all is right in the world.

At 05:31 Blogger Marjorie said...

Good Morning, Dan. One can always hope....

At 06:33 Blogger Lyndyn said...

Gooood morning, fiendlings. Why am I up so early? Cause my arm still hurts from this tetnus shot. Chances that I would have ever actually gotten tetnus? Not bloody likely.

Hope all of you are well rested (migraine free) and having a loverly day/evening!

At 06:36 Blogger Dragonsally said...

As you all rise and shine, I'm off to bed. Hope all of you on t'other side of the world have a good day

At 06:41 Blogger Lyndyn said...

Night DSally!

At 06:49 Blogger Jess said...

Good morning, Yinzers. (Hee hee! I think it might actually be Yinz on the North Side and Y'uns as you get into Washington County. Not sure.) I'm well, thank you, but I fear all is not right in the world of my poor cat, whom I had to drop of at the vet for a dental. It will likely involve yanking teeth, thanks to an oral stomatitis which seems to be reasserting itself after two years of nothing. :( Poor cat.

Ouch, Lyndyn! :( Tetanus shots are no fun. Last jab I had hurt for a week. But the good news is that you won't get tetanus.

At 06:55 Blogger Lyndyn said...

At least that's something, Jess! It had been about 25 years(!) since I'd had one - so I was due - but ouch! I had the chills and fever on Sunday, but now just the arm ouch. Glad that the nurse did it in my left one and not my right!

Hope your kitty cat is ok - mine is doing his best to drape as much of himself over my typing fingers as possible even as we speak.

At 07:45 Blogger spacedlaw said...

I hope our Lorraine is feeling better today...

At 07:52 Blogger Lyndyn said...

Me, too!

At 08:11 Blogger Ticia said...

At 08:26 Anonymous Kate said...

Good morning all (and Good Night to others)! I add my hope that the Princess of No will be migraine free today.

Good to see all of you on twitter - a treat as mostly my twitter feed is teachers and ed tech folks. Much happiness.

At 09:22 Blogger vampi said...

Now we just need to get Vampi on board, and we have yet ANOTHER party!

i'm easy, or so the bathroom wall says. im so excited:)

so i had weird dreams about sonic screwdrivers, but no doctor.

At 09:40 Blogger Jess said...

Me, um, five! Hope you're better this morning, Q.

Siri, I have to ask you: how many trips back and forth to the airport does that make for one day? I'm beginning to wonder whether Paul and I ought to think about renting a car or something, just to make things a little easier on you.

At 09:56 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Well, I now know (Ladies) whyfor the migraine yesterday and am curled on my floor with a hot water bottle. Not a lot of fun.....

At 09:57 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I was just thinking that this morning Q...... Sorry it has laid you low. Hopefully you'll feel better soon.

And, Siri, I can rent a car too...

At 09:58 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Alas, poor Q!

Hope the head is at least better.

At 10:08 Blogger Dan Guy said...

Oh dear! In your honor, I twittered haiku and hashtagged it #quiche-ku. I hope that relief comes soon.

At 10:13 Blogger Jane said...

Q hope your head is better and *hate* that after all the bee anticipation you had miss it. Grrr.

I'm Qitou on Twitter and have just added several new people - yea!

At 10:14 Blogger Jane said...

I wish I had a sonic screwdriver. Seems to be so useful...

At 10:16 Blogger Na said...

Poor Q! You really get zowied. :(

While so many have spring in full swing, and others here have fall descending, I gots red, yellow and peach tulips just opening in the past two days, and the hollyhocks have sent up their first leaves of the year. Also, rhubarb apparently does very well in this part of the world.

And I have a neighbor who would clean the entire complex if they'd let her. I was out puttering and she happened over with a rake and cleared out all the planting beds and under the back steps. Which was awkward for me, as I hadn't intended to stay out for long, but then was obliged to follow her around for an hour and haul away all the duff and trash she raked out from around our place. But ohmy what a lotta work she did. I shall have to bake her something.

At 10:20 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Mmmmmm, rhubarb.

At 10:26 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Sigh. No mahjong at lunch today. It's been forever since there's been enough of us free to make up a game.

At 11:17 Blogger Marjorie said...

Ading to the well-wishing for Q ;-)

Jess- I'm hiring a car - planning to pick it up on one of Siri's airport runs, so I will be able to help out after that, too. It makes sense for me as I am hanging around after the weekend and will need transport then, too.

At 11:26 Blogger Jess said...

As long as Siri doesn't turn into a nonstop taxi! :)

Okay, I did a #quiche-ku, and Dan did one, and Nathalie did one. Where are the rest of you lot? Make with the syllabic poemage. :D

At 11:32 Blogger Phiala said...

Okay, I'm a conformist. #quiche-ku doesn't have to be _good_, right??

At 11:37 Blogger Jess said...

Mine's not.

At 11:40 Blogger Ani said...

Phiala-- #Quiche-ku is by definition a fine and wonderful thing. :)

Thanks for finding me on twitter various fiends! So you two know, I am adding you as well Kate & Lyndyn.

At 15:20 Blogger Marjorie said...

Have you seen the birdchick's new bee-post?

At 15:22 Blogger louisa said...

Just back from seeing Coraline again - thank you Marjorie!! Realised as I arrived at the cinema that I never actually answered the question in the mail I sent for free tix! (I did know the answer though) Loved catching more of the detail, such an amazing creation. I still want to see it in 2D - why yes, I am a Coraline junky

For any not comfortable with Twitter here are all the quiche-ku's

At 15:40 Blogger Marjorie said...

Glad to know they let you in anyway, Louisa! I'm a Coraline Junkie too - may have to go again at the weekend, seeing as it will actually be officially out!

At 16:26 Blogger Chantrelle said...

I think this is quite the junkie group. I saw coraline 3 times (once in 3D, twice in 2D) and am anxiously awaiting the DVD.

For those of you not following me on twitter (vampandora), this magnificent creature is hanging around my acupuncturist's office:
http://twitpic.com/4oel8

It's beautiful!! It looks like it's out of a Charles Vess illustration.

Hope it sends magical healing powers to Q (i'm with you on the water bottle need today too...virtual cycle synching)

At 16:35 Anonymous Lysandwr said...

Twitter not to me

of Tweeting, for I....

Resist Temptation!!

Or at least until I get a)more free time and b) a better phone.

Facebook and this blog have proven too much these last few weeks, but it will get better.

Speaking of getting better: my EXTREME and empathic sympathies, Q!! I'd loan you Angus (he has this darling habit of curling up around my lower abdomen, no matter where I'm sitting, when the cramps come. LOVE that cat) but your Bengal babes would no doubt intimidate the heck out of him. Hope you are feeling much better as soon as possible.

Dan-can you send the Bee part of the Bee-Bengal Alliance to denude the Twitterverse of Spam Bots? or is that too much even for you? :)

{{Hugs}} to all who need 'em, and kudos to the many hardworking Fiends who are teaching, painting nails, lugging out garden trash, and writing quiche-kus. What a verbal lot you all are! (loud applause)

Okay, back into the lurki-verse again....(when is that shift? 2 a.m.?)

At 16:36 Anonymous Lysandwr said...

Chantrelle--Holy Chao!! That is just beautiful; plus you took a lovely picture, well done.

Virtual synching--count me in, too. What is *up* with that?

At 16:37 Blogger Phiala said...

Beautiful peacock, Chantrelle. And I'm with you and Q on the virtual scheduling thing.

Hi Lys! Glad you popped in.

At 16:41 Blogger Chantrelle said...

OK, now that's just weird.

What a hormone-fest june is going to be :P

I have dueling 4 yr olds...they are sooo like brothers, they fight fight fight over every little thing. Then they'll play beautifully together for hours. Then scream they won't be friends anymore...then cry when the other has to leave.

drama.

At 16:43 Anonymous Lysandwr said...

Hi, Phiala!! Sorry to not be participating more....I read when I can, at odd (very odd) hours....but am just taking a breather today to catch up.

Have definitely been enjoying your stirring string adventures. :) Okay, I just wanted to use those two words together like that. <3

At 16:45 Blogger Phiala said...

Lys, no pressure to participate, honest! Just happy to see you. :)

I try to provide stirring string, though lately it seems more like filler - glad you've enjoyed it anyway. (Note: stirring string makes the skeins all tangly.)

At 16:53 Anonymous Lysandwr said...

Chantrelle--

Dueling four year olds--the weapons of choice or the actual duellists?

JUST KIDDING! You simply gave me a very funny mental picture there for a moment.

Okay, I'm reading too much Tony Hillerman, Phiala. Plus the whole lack of sleep thing.

Read your last post and wondered if a Navajo knitter would be a Skeinwalker.

Oh what a tangled skein we weave....

At 17:11 Blogger Arwenn said...

Lys - you get to read Hillerman in New Mexico......that is way cool. I have to try to remember to do that next time I visit out there.

At 17:13 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Okay, gals, this is just getting scary. Me, too! I didn't realize hormones could be sent over Ethernet!

At 17:16 Blogger Ticia said...

Ooh! I'm a rebel. Read it and weep! :snort: SO kidding. But I am NOT on your schedule.

At 17:37 Blogger Na said...

I appreciate the virtual synch -- always gives me a week's warning. ;)

At 17:39 Blogger Phiala said...

Lys, you should read some Michael McGarrity too. I started reading his police thrillers when I was living in Las Cruces. They're set in the Santa Fe area, with excursions around the state.

At 17:41 Blogger Na said...

Ticia, She's a rebel/ She's a saint/ She's salt of the earth/ and she's dangerous!

Oops. Raining here. That lovely smell infuses the air, of ozone and rain on dry ground. I should prolly turn off the 'puter for a while, just when I had some legit free time... Thunder! Cheers fiends.

Full moon on Saturday ladies - that's why so many are syncing.
Sending virtual hot water bottles to Quiche and all who need it.

I've never seen a white peacock before, what a beauty.

off now to read quiche-ku and then tryto catch up on email and twitters.

At 20:23 Blogger Lyndyn said...

OKKKKKkkkkk....weirdly, I felt tres crampy today and thought...huh...isn't this a bit early...hmmm...might be something to this synch stuff..

At 20:25 Blogger Siri said...

Ticia, Jess, No Worries, Mates. I'm happy to get you from the airport to Stillwater. I love to drive. I like being helpful. I'll let you know when I'm done. (As I recall, I offered)

;)

Lys, I add my "nice to see you, m'dear" to the others. We always miss those who fine reallife taking over for a bit. We are here when you need us. How's the job?

I'm a little sad tonight; my BFF has been sick for a while, and it's gall bladder and she's better and getting it yanked out Friday, but I can't do anything to help her feel better (OK, I did pick up the drugs that made the pain stop, but) and I don't like it when my friends hurt.

On the other hand, I had a lovely day at the ball park, watching the Iowa Cubs win, and I was with my best baseball buddy, so I should be happy. Hmmm - wait - I know what this is.

I'm weary.

At 20:56 Blogger DataGoddess said...

Oh, Siri, I bet she's going to feel so much better once the gall bladder is out. I had mine out a few years ago.

Things she'll enjoy to stave off boredom while recovering would probably be something excellent you could do for her. My mom not only hung out with me, but also drove me crazy doing the little projects I had been getting behind on like sorting books, putting things in frames, my very large to-do-someday pile.

At 20:58 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Hugs and healing thoughts for your friend Siri.

At 20:59 Blogger Siri said...

OK, here's the thing with her. She's going to work tomorrow, and will go back to work on Tuesday, after surgery on Friday. With the Dr.'s OK.

I was off 6 weeks when I had mine out in 1994. Of course, part of that was I couldn't wear a bra for some time, because of one of the incisions, and I don't go out without a bra, but 1 day off work? Sheesh.

You danged teachers are all so dedicated!

At 21:12 Blogger Siri said...

And DSALLY!!! I really haven't said hey to you for a while. Was the wedding fun?

At 21:14 Blogger Dragonsally said...

OMG, I wonder if she will manage that. I would have thought it was too soon, but I'm not a surgeon. Is it keyhole surgery now?

At 21:15 Blogger Dragonsally said...

The whole weekend was fun Siri. A big blast being with family, who I don't see very often, and I enjoyed the heat up in Tropical Queensland (but not so much the cockroach on my head in the middle of the night)

At 21:15 Blogger Siri said...

Must be - mine was, and I still took 6 weeks off.

Of course, I had the time, and it was spring, and I didn't like the job I had at the time all that much. I didn't rush back.

She cried at the thought of missing the number of days she has this last 2 weeks, even though she was in such pain she couldn't teach.

It's all a matter of perspective!

At 21:16 Blogger Siri said...

Talk about OMG - Just say No to cockroaches anywhere, much less on the head!

That's the trouble with the tropics - too many icky bugs.

At 21:23 Blogger Dragonsally said...

yup, I was attacked by mozzies, ants, fleas and cockroaches.

Decided I wouldn't like to live up there after all.

At 21:24 Blogger Siri said...

One nice thing about winter - no bugs.

Maybe we just need freeze rays to kill em, kill em dead.

Dan?

At 22:25 Blogger ariandalen said...

Speaking of virtual synching...I'll start Saturday. I had wondered if you were having a premenstrual migraine, Ms. Fabulous.

Still not twitterpated. There was a look of horror on my husband's face when he thought I had joined Twitter. I was just reading tweets. ;)

Siri, the surgeons have improved laparascopic techniques greatly in the past fifteen years. If there are no complications, your friend could well be back at work on Tuesday. It will probably take a couple of weeks for the gas in the abdominal cavity to work itself out, nor will she be doing any jarring exercises for a while, but going back to work could be doable. I have a friend whose father underwent heart surgery, to correct a herniated vein, a couple of weeks ago without having any incisions longer than an inch, if that much. That was on a Wednesday, and he was home by Friday. Heck, I was home on the third day with both of my C-sections, stapled together, with the bedroom upstairs.

At 22:27 Blogger Na said...

AAAHHHHhhhhh! Tropical Queensland sounds like Central Texas. I do. Not. Miss. Cockroaches.
Or fire ants or ticks or fleas or cicadas or mosquitos...

I do miss fireflies and, strangely, June bugs.

Posting this comment, everything is in it's usual font, and no numbers.

Interesting.

Saw a poor, dead bat on the way to work this morning. And it was ... cute. I mean, I kinda wanted to pet it cute. Didn't of course. It was hard to tell what it was at first. It was on its back with wings curled up in front of it. The membranes of the wings had shriveled down to the tiny bones, but the body looked fine. It had the softest looking golden brown fur. Poor wee thing.

Siri - all my best to your friend, and to you.

DS - roach on head! I'm still shuddering.

And of course, continued healing thoughts for our fearless leader.

At 08:27 Blogger Lyndyn said...

Ah, poor little dead bat. Did you know that they call the ones that get in your house - they are usually males - bachelor bats? I guess they are usually young boy bats.

At 08:32 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Lyndyn - Did not know that. Of course my feelings about bats in the house tend not to include "oh how cute". I had them on more than one occasion in my first apartment in Binghamton. Heh, bachelor bats visit spinster household. Okay now that's funny. To me anyway.

At 08:51 Blogger Lyndyn said...

LOL OSS - that's cute!

Do hope Miss FabLo is feeling better...

At 09:14 Blogger Jane said...

OSS - have you read Stellaluna? If you want cute bat...

At 10:54 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Jane - I've seen it but not read it. The cover is cute indeed.

Just found out we've lost another mahjong player. Shoot, now we have no spares. One person's unavailability now cancels the game. Hoping to put a game together tomorrow though.

At 11:15 Blogger Chantrelle said...

OSS, too bad you don't live closer, we play mah jong. We're teaching ben (who's 4 1/2) to play. He's really good! We play no chows, he's better at matching than getting the sequential stuff.

Fun!

Poor little bat. Have you seen the video of Boss "bat training"? :P

Hope Q is recovering today

At 11:41 Blogger vampi said...

i'd love to learn to play real majongh, we always played rummikub. i think it's simplified and not real majong. i love the tile matching games. and majong tiles are so pretty.

i so want to read that bat story, i LOVE cute bats.

At 12:36 Blogger One Sock Short said...

"bat training"? -- sounds like a must-see. Is is still available online somewhere?

Thanks Chantrelle!

Must not play at work, must not play at work, must not...

Lunch break is over anyway. Something to look forward to this evening.

i'm pondering a yoga ball to use as my chair at work. any fiends use such a device? i'm a bit scared i will kill myself. i do like the idea of bouncing

At 18:01 Blogger dabbler said...

vampi, I have contemplated the same thing. Though I have this mental picture of rolling over backwards with my legs up in the air (sort of a dead dog pose, I guess.) They do make ones with frames that the ball fits in, which would work better for chicken-me. Don't know how I would accommodate the six inch difference in chair height that allows me to type without pain, and then sit with my feet on the floor when facing clients.

But I love the idea...

At 18:13 Blogger vampi said...

i too worry about the falling over. several coworkers have them here and i have been nouncing on the balls when i can. i am not going to give up my chair totally, just have the ball as an option i think. and i am going to buy a base. there is a window behind my desk, i don't want to end up outside, lol.

At 19:01 Blogger Dragonsally said...

The OT at my old work always sat on her ball.

One can never watch the bat training video enough. Bats are awesome.

OSS, Pete told me last night that there is a plague of tarantulas in a town not that far from Townsville. Thank Fod it wasn't in Townsville or I would have caught the first flight home *shudder*

At 19:14 Blogger Chantrelle said...

I've sat on a ball for 10 years! I was always "the girl on the purple ball" to all new employees :P
Way back when, the movers didn't know what to do w/ it (before they became more popular). Once they deflated it, i was pissed!

If you sit on it correctly, it's great for your back...if you don't which i no longer do because i'm lazy, it's just fun ;-)

At 19:43 Blogger One Sock Short said...

Laughing hysterically at bat video. So not how I reacted to the ones that got into my apartment.

DS - Tarantulas. A plague of tarantulas. Oh now I'm past shuddering and on to queasy. Oddly enough, as a kid in Tucson I was pretty unphased by the one that came onto the back porch. Then again, it was only one.

At 19:49 Blogger Dragonsally said...

Okay, OSS probably shouldn't look at this, but I found an article with a photo clicky for spidy

At 21:24 Blogger Lyndyn said...

Tar-an-tu-las....~~~shuddddddderrrrrr~~~

At 21:27 Blogger Lyndyn said...

Has anyone heard from Lo? I'm kind of worried...

At 21:52 Blogger Siri said...

Don't be worried - Q has a plethora of care givers. When she gets laid low, she stays quiet. Someone would tell us if aught were bad.

Just send loving fiendish thoughts.

We just tiptoe around, shhheshhing each other, so she can get her rest.

At 21:59 Blogger vampi said...

or we just keep on babbling knowing he is watching, and laughing.

so i got a ball. it is bright green. it was on sale for $16, so i don't feel to bad about the purchase if i get bored and stop using it. i'm thinking it's fun enough it will keep me occupied fr a while.

At 22:00 Blogger vampi said...

SHE omg, too much of this sangria.

tomorrow tales of the green ball. i'm off to play with my pictures of boy's sprouts.

At 22:02 Blogger Siri said...

I think maybe you were just bouncing too much, Vampi.....

At 22:06 Blogger AletaMay said...

Siri you are so on top of things for Fiendom Come! Thank you! I am sure there will be others, me for example and I think El also, who can jump in when the airport shuttle gig gets to be too much!

If there is anything anyone still feels unsure about drop me a note. I have had a very crazy couple of weeks and I'll be able to focus more on the Great Fiend Gathering starting next week!

At 22:26 Blogger Siri said...

Thanks, AM - I do what I can. As it gets closer (like, in June even) I'll start collecting arrival times and let you know if there are problems. I am so very much looking forward to the event, but my work life between now and then will be NUTS, so I'm putting off thinking about things. Fiends are my reward for a long year!

At 22:47 Blogger vampi said...

fiendish hugs coming your way.

so i hand washed my new swirlie skirts and now i have blck dye on my hands. how do i go to work tomorrow with out looking like i have gangren? bleach is not an option as i am allergic.

At 23:04 Blogger Adri said...

vampi-- try a scrub of salt (coarse, if you have it) and cooking oil. If nothing else, you'll have super soft dyed hands!

When oil and serious ex foliation doesn't help after I've done my hair dye, sometimes strong detergent-based soaps (dish soap is a good option) does.

At 23:14 Blogger vampi said...

oh adri you are the best! i am no loner gangren hands:) i never would have thought of that.

At 23:23 Blogger Adri said...

No worries, vampi! I re-dye my hair every six weeks (and touch it up every one to two weeks), so 'dye on hands' is an extremely familiar problem for me!
