A Fiver For Hope.....
Hope and her Babies Three are here and ensconced on the big Scream Porch. If you are just joining the story read HERE first, and then HERE for the Story So Far, about the beautiful Kitty who came to my porch, she'd been dumped in the woods for being in the family way and apparently had the babies in a garage down the street. We think we have a home for her, once the babies are grown enough, and may have homes for the babies too.
Which is good.
Very good, as it appears that Miss Not Into Family Planning may be having some more babies in the not too distant future. I'd asked last night for help with these vet bills and her spaying asking if people coming out here could donate a "Fiver for Hope" and I am beyond grateful for the responses from those of you not coming out but wanting to help. (And those coming!)
I am taking the Fivers in the mail only. I don't want to Paypal, as I don't want any monies going into my account and getting mixed up. All money goes to Hope and her kittens vet bills. Any left over goes in the Fiver for Hope Jar, to be used for the next one.
The address is:
Lorraine Garland
3208 W. Lake St
#419
Minneapolis, MN 55416
I'd wanted to bring her here so that she would not be going out nights partying and having more Babies, but it may be too late, I'll take her to the vet and see what they say. I know they can abort the Babies when they spay, but I don't think I can do that.
(Which should not be taken as my stance on abortion. I believe that is a choice ONLY the women concerned can make for herself, and she is the one who should make it.)
The Babies, as you can see, are beyond cute. Cute overload. They are smaller than I thought, two grey tabbies, and an ORANGE one, who has my heart. More friendly than you would expect, and they have taken to the litter box.
This is a textbook case study of SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PETS. Here is this lovely girl, hardly more than a year old, if that, on her second litter. She had seven babies, sadly, four were found dead, she couldn't take care of them. Now I am taking care of them all.
Anyone wanting to help, and send a Fiver For Hope, it would mean so much to me.
I made a promise. If they crossed my path, I would save them. And I will. I'll see her thru this, and find homes for these babies, and the new babies. And I will not be letting her out. And she will be getting spayed before she goes anywhere.
I know this story is being played out over and over, everywhere. I know most of you have Rescued, and taken on the Pets that nobody wanted. And it means something real. Very real.
It's about making a difference.
Love and Kittens, too many kittens,
Lorraine

I'm only looking at the kitties. I am not taking one home. I'm only looking.
OMG!! They are so goddamn adorable!
Will have money for hope jar when we're there IN PERSON! Woo!
Ben's washing the days of cabin dirt, and fish, and creek water, and dog off of him in the tub now. Filthy little boy he was!
It will be on its way tomorrow.
They are so beautiful, but there is something extra gorgeous about the ginger kitty.
How are your girls taking more interlopers in their house?
What Siri said. Times one hundred.
But it's so hard to not look. Our lovely girl was adopted from the SPCA; dropped off with her litter, which I don't think was her first. She is barely 2 years old. So yes, this story is all too familiar sounding.
I knew her kittens would have no problems finding a home. It's the older ones that need us more I think. Hence why there was not a second thought about adopting her right after her surgery.
Am thinking she needs a friend. Or two. Oh dear.
I'm only looking. I'm only looking. I'm...done for. Off to look at the SPCA website. Again.
*sigh*
I would like to go and scoop up the little orange one and bring him home. I would name him Geoffrey. *sigh*
You should send some pics of them and their story to The Daily Kitten.
Fiver in the mail tomorrow--got to support Hope wherever it manifests! :)
Bless you a thousand times for making a difference. Help (at least in the form of more fivers) is on the way in a week and a day. Well, less than a day now. Hooray!
A big something from the June to-do list got postponed, since other people are just as behind as I am. I am relieved, even though it's only a delay. Now the list almost looks manageable.
Meanwhile, I am (gracefully???) aging into a second pair of glasses. Reading and computer work (which is, oh about 110% of my job) now need their very own pair. Maybe I'll be getting that librarian-stylin' eyeglass chain after all ;-)
Dinner guests tomorrow to look forward to -- the postponed event with the cute (but not too cute) couple helping me warm my less-than-new-home. Should be a lovely evening.
Wishing a lovely evening/morning to all.
You have my fiver.
On my street there was a beautiful Abyssinian who would be adopted by people when they realized she was pregant. As soon as she gave birth and the babies had been dealt with, the owners would show up. "Oh, I believe you have our cat" they would say. This tiny beautiful little thing was the mother of most of the cats in the neighbourhood.
It was criminal.
Sending Five tomorrow for Hope. And you have NO IDEA how much I wish I could be a part of Fiendfest - so I will send along my annotated copy of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies with OneSockShort and be with you in spirit.
Thanks for giving us all Hope.
Awww, lookit the preciousesssss! I am all about helping the family of fluff :D
And yes, yesterday I went to the (tiny, volunteer-run) shelter to finalize Ampersand's adoption, and the gals there had just gotten a call from a family who didn't know their dog was pregnant when they flew her over, and would they take in FIVE newborn puppies ASAP? >_<
When I read this, I happened to have a $5 bill sitting on my table that I'd been sticking in my bike bag in case of an emergency.
I think Hope needs it more!
Thank you for everything you're doing for these kitties. I am hugging my 3 (all shelter-rescue) furry ones tonight.
Beautiful babies, beautiful Hope.
Beautiful Quichie for all you do.
aw... they are sooo cute!
and all fiends are right! Bless you for making a difference...and with those new. WHAT A difference...so we are about to se more cute kittens soon! I am sure everything will be ok and they will all find great families.
now... bedtime, with a horrible migrane (I came in just to read the post and be -even more- in love with the kittens and Hope)....
Added another picture of the babies in the ficus, just now...
THANK YOU.
I am kind of nearly having tears come. You have no idea what you all mean to me. No idea.
I'm over stateside, jetlagged and braindead. But I've got my fiver ready in the envelope to send, together with a stamp. I hope I can find the postbox today so its not delayed.
Thank you for taking in this gorgeous kitty and her brood Lorraine, you really are one in the million and every time you make me cry but I forgive you because it's all good! ;)
So cute!!!!!
I hope she's not pregnant again. The poor girl, so young!! I'm a firm believer in karma, whoever dumped her will be taken care of by karma, as will you, Quiche, for taking care of whatever crosses your path. You add kindness and love to the world by helping the small voiceless fluffy ones.
You're not bringing them to any of the Fiendom Come things, are you? We will die from the KYOOOT.
Oh hai, we haz a twee?
Letter addressed and stamped with Hope's fiver. Since we have an over abundance of kittens and since she is so young to possibly have to put her body through another pregnancy I think she would vote to spay no matter what. Of course that is my opinion only.
Man, that's awesome and taxing!!
I would do the same for kids it if I could but until then I'll just neuter the kids I have.
jk
I am going to see what the vet has to say about the spay/pregnant thing. I may be wrong about it.
And Janet, I am not abandoning the Bengals, but these came (Literally) into my backyard, and I can't not help them..
Venus and Mim, by the way think this SUCKS and they want people to know that they are in NO WAY in agreement about it. And the sooner these interlopers are gone the better.
Magic of course, doesn't know about them and just wonders why he is only fed three times a day and has to get by on dry food the rest of the time.
As someone who has spayed and neutered a feral cat colony of 54 (yes, 54) on my own dime and with the generous discounts my vet was able to give me, this story touches me a lot.
I'll put a fiver for each in the mail tomorrow.
Thank you for doing this. Can rescue can be heartbreaking in some ways but utterly rewarding in other ways.
Lorraine, I am heartened and impressed with you and your wonderful, wonderful, giant heart. I would take one of the kittens in a heartbeat, but I just adopted a kitten not too long ago, plus, well, I live in British Columbia, so I'm a bit far.
But seriously, you are truly amazing and you make me believe in people.
Kimberley
I do hope she's not pregnant. When I found Kitty, she was in the family way, but she was also extremely malnourished. So malnourished that she wasn't healthy enough to get her shots. Then, we found out that all of the vaccinations she needed would kill the babies. And, the vet told us that if she had the babies she had so many health problems that she might not live through it. So, for a while I was feeding her rice and chicken cooked in broth to bring up her weight, and when she was healthy enough I made the decision to go through with the vaccinations, get her fixed, and have the abortion. It still haunts me. (Likewise not saying anything against a woman's choice to have an abortion.)
At least if she's pregnant you can decide to take care of the babies. I think that's why I'm so adamant now about saving the kitties. I have so little room in my apartment it makes it almost impossible, but it makes me happy to know that there are people out there like you who have the means and are making a difference.
They are beautiful, babies and mama all. I've taken strays; I've homed out kittens that nobody else would have wanted. You're doing good work. As soon as I can afford it, I will send a Fiver.
LOL
And Janet, I am not abandoning the Bengals, but these came (Literally) into my backyard, and I can't not help them..
Since you have 3 of your own bengals and 2 you are fostering, I had to laugh at the above, No way you could abandon them if you tried. I am so glad Hope showed up again and her kittens will get homes and she won't have to be a kitten machine in the future but will be a loved pet.
Your stories are making my heart full. Thank you for sharing them.
What a world it might be if everyone thought the same...
I will see what the vet thinks on Hope. It IS a hard choice, and I know you will all be with me on it.
At the end tho, she will be a much loved pet, which is what we are going for. And all her kittens, present and future.
And yes, Janet, taking on this on top of FIVE Bengals is kind of nuts, but what could I do?
Sometimes you just have to DO it, and not stop and think if you CAN.
Card addressed and stamped for tomorrow's mail with a Fiver from me and the Viking, and another in memory of my dearly departed Rogue, who Hope reminds me of. If I was closer, I'd be in line for re-homing, but Arizona's quite a trip for fuzzies.
~jess
My old house mate and I faced the same decision when the much missed Smokey made her home in the backyard. I know we did the right thing for her health but I always regretted that we couldn't have a litter of gorgeous grey kittens.
Smokey however found her human, and changed Craig from a dog man to a cat man, and she had years of love.
I've had two feral cats spay/aborted, but I don't know if I could do it to a friendly Mama who'll have friendly kittens. I tried and tried to find a shelter/foster that could take care of them all because I couldn't bring them home, but to no avail. All the shelters told me I'd be doing the best thing for the Chicago cat over-population problem. It's just one of the hazards of Trap-Neuter-Return. I can report, though, that both Mamas are still around and doing beautifully, and one of them is actually a grandmother and takes care of her daughter's kittens, all of whose pockets I will be picking soon. Enforced family planning.
Awww, that little ginger kitteh is the most adorable thing! Well, they're all adorable, but I have a special (and unfilled...) place in my heart for marmalade tabbies.
There's a fiver in the mail for you, and if you don't have anyone local for the orange kitten, we should talk. San Jose is a long way to go, but there's lots of love waiting here!
I made them TWO lovely safe cat beds on the Scream Porch, and where do they sleep? In the Ficus Pot. of course.
Had to laugh, working in movies, one always ends up copied on something one has nothing to do with.
Just happened again, The e-mail mention "Lorraine" and when I asked for a re-fresh, as I had no clue, did ask me to approve some travel for (Insert huge stars name here)
We had a good laugh, me and the 10 people copied when we figured out there were 2 Lorraine's and I wasn't the right one...
Where are my storms? We have a Sever Thunderstorm Watch, near a Tornado Watch, like one county over, but so far NOTHING.
Weather Girl is frustrated.
Tinkabelle, I have a feeling Mr Orange (if he is a boy, tho that is the feeling) will certainly have takers. Wish I could...
Ok, looks like I am commenting on myself. Here I am, in my blog. Just me. I like it here. Even Fiendless.
(This happens often, new people, they get REALLY chatty when I am at work and not arund, just watch them)
You're amazing. Luckily, we have a new low cost clinic open, and they'll do ferals for free. So I'll be taking "my" girl in, when I can catch her. Unfortuantely, I didn't get to her before she had her first litter. One kitten disappeared after a month, one was attacked by a dog, and didn't make it, and the third has survived so far, but is shaping up feral, especailly after the dog incident she doesn't trust people. I think if it came down to it, I'd abort a litter while getting her fixed, just because I know what they'd most likely be in for.
I wouldn't think Hope would be in the family way with kittens still with her like that. So you may have caught her in time.
I was just outside enjoying some winter sunshine and a book.
Tell me Fiends, do you also call orange cats ginger cats, or are they marmalades in the US?
Lovely post and comments to come home to. My five will be there.
This is such a happy beginning for Hope and her wee cuties.
Ah Lorraine, that's the way I've gotten most of my kitties. A fiver in the mail to you from my boys Bartleby and Ishmael.
Anon!
Reading about Hope and the babies and the stories of other cat rescues from your blog, I've realized that I've only bought one cat, and that was from a cat rescue. All the others were strays that found their way to me.
There was Miss Daisy, who wandered into my house when I was in middle school and started eating out of our dog's bowl like she owned the place. My dad woke up and found a letter about how I really needed the cat and all of the ways she would make me into a better person. He had no real chance of saying no. She lives with the new owners of our old house, because she was an outdoor cat and they fell in love with her (even though I was the only person she'd get near).
There was little Baby Amadeus who ended up having distemper and didn't make it.
There was Ki'Ten who now lives with my ex's mother. When he was a baby, our neighbors were playing games, like seeing how fast he could run if they sprayed him with a hose and sicked their dog on him. He used to sit on my pillow and munch on my hair while I was sleeping.
There's Kitty, and then I took in Hannah when her owners were deployed to Iraq. She ended up going to a cat house in North Carolina, because my space was too small and she had too many emotional and socializing problems for me to deal with at the time.
And, now there's Serious Black, who I adopted from a cat rescue group. Kitty's the queen of my heart, though. She's been described as a spoiled cat by more than one person.
I have faith that Hope and her kittens will find happy, caring homes. Perhaps the kittens names are Faith, Charity, and Providence. ;)
Hi,Ms. T, Biblio Brat, Maura Anderson, ~jess hartley, and Tikabelle! So glad you decided to join Fiendom. The white, buckled jackets are hanging just over there. Supplies for personalizing your jacket can be found on the table next to the jackets. :)

Hi, Brody, Miiru, Bubbles, and Shelly Rae! Didn't mean to leave you out, as you need jackets, too. :)
Go forth, and be Fiendish!

hee hee heheeheheheheheh
You are a good egg, Lorraine. I'll pop some cash in the mail for ya. Keep doing what you are doing - it makes the world a better place. Thank you!
- Noelle
Awww.... So precious!
What are Venus and Mim thinking of this invasion? oh. I see they object.
Why am I not surprised?
How long are you going to keep them here?
Okay,
Switching things around for a week will afford fuzzy cuteness help.
i rescued my black kitty, Taquito, 'cause black kittens don't get adopted as frequently here..
-Still 'bad luck' phobia...
How about where YOU are?
Still looking for help for Davis the FL+ cat.
Owner must leave him tomorrow.
I'm thinking chances for him at shelter= close to nil.
Thoughts?
Whoever dumped mum cat, a plague - a plague on all your houses (to mangle the Bard).
I offer a home but yes (as previously mentioned) San Jose is a long way away and I suspect my old ladies would not approve.
Instead - kitty help fund to be sent in the mail. Must be the day for it. we just donated for vet bills for a kitty hurt in a fire who jumped out of a 3rd floor and survived that and burns. http://kylejessrebuild.com/?page_id=64 Just here to make you smile at a success story.
I also heart Bengals, maybe some time in the future my old ladies may consent to a couple :-)
Thank you for being there for cats. One at a time when they cross our path makes a big difference, I'm that way too.
The kittens are so adorable,(Bed, what bed? Potting mix is so much more fun to sleep on). But as much as I have adored my cats, they have been off to the vets as soon as it's been appropiate.
My current furball, Miro, was part of an unexpected litter - the folks who had his mother had been told that she'd been spayed. At least they were responsible, socialised the kittens really well, and spayed the mother as soon as they could. Bless you Ms Q for taking this on.
And thank you to Ariandalen for the welcome. I wondered what I could see glinting in the distance. :) Ooh...buckles. Pretty. Shiiiiny.
> Sometimes you just have to DO it, and not stop and think if you CAN.
Exactly. If you think, sometimes logic prevails and you forget that there is always a way. Always. I believe that with all my heart.
My sister is the cat-rescue and neuter/spay-releaser of her neighbourhood. Her eldest son (21) called her up once to help him rescue an abandoned litter from the campground where they park their RV for the summer (he was living in it to be closer to work for the season) - someone had a cat in the campground as a seasonal pet (!!), it got pregnant, and at the end of the season the whole lot was turned out to an empty field while the "owners" packed up and left. FFS.
They were saved. I love that kid.
Fiver(s) on the way tomorrow. I even have some American cash stashed away here for trips to visit family. It will do better use in the Jar of Hope.
Good Morning! And what gorgeous cute kittens.Kittens in the ficus reminds me of a kitten I saw in Marrakech,
I shall bring my fiver with me (picked up my holiday money yesterday, and what better souvenir could there be than helping towards safe, happy kitties!
way cute!
still entertaining the kids from the hetherlands. they leave tomorrow:(
but :) for 1 week until fiend meet!
On the way tomorrow! Thank you for taking her in and looking after her and her kittens, and also for fixing her when she's ready. I have four of my own (all with a story, and all rescues!) plus a rescued puppy.
Thank you so much for doing this. I'm not much of a joiner, but this is one cause I'm glad to support!
Is that much cuteness even legal???? Kittens AND Ben eating marshmallows - why yes, it is Friday!
I'm so pleased you have found Hope again - and aren't the kittens gorgeous!!
Is there anything that people across the miles - and seas - can do regarding the Hope fund. If I can get some dollars here I can post them but some other way more tricksy like online woul dbe brilliant. (I understand about the PayPal though) Licks and purrs to all
I mustn't let Molly see me looking at this post. She will insist that we make a layover at Minneapolis/St. Paul to adopt one.
This is so heartwarming - Lorraine you're such a star!
Our cat Poppy had a similar same start as Hope, abandoned with kittens when she was barely out of kittenhood herself. She was rehomed by Cats Protection League with my neighbour, who left her behind when she moved house because she had bought 2 new kittens & couldn't be bothered to find a new home for Poppy. We started to feed her, then I'd let her into bedroom window to sleep on my bed at night! She soon moved herself in fulltime and was a happy & content cat for the rest of her life.
Oh wittle kittums. Just look at that Oh my. Oh oh oh. Must...resist...
Glad to hear that there may be homes for them already, too.
Yay people! That's a lot of fivers already.
NO BEES!!!!!!!
Getting a bit miffed about this.
Kittens are rolling about this morning, doing kitten things. Thy all seems to have taken to the litter box right away, and are both eating and nursing.
I don't know how old they are, or if they are boys or girls.
I think my next door neighbor is taking Agent Orange, I hope so, as I don't want him to go. He's HUGE, twice the size of the others...
Very suspicious, this lack of bees. Off planning the coup perhaps?
Kittens, doing kitteny things. How are you surviving that much cute? I never got to see Phoebe that young, alas.
Kewtie Kittehs ahoy! Righty-ho, yer weird foreign money on its way to you & Hope via the nice ladies in the post office, in Dave McKean-Fairies-enhanced embelote. Hopefully should be with you by the time the Fiends descend.
LOL - I've got my own straightjacket, which rhinestones and everything!
I have 7 indoor cats currently, all rescues that happened TO me. I'm completely a slave to cats.
I had to laugh when I realized some of you have Bengals. I have issues buying a cat when so many have no homes but I adore bengals. Two friends have them and I have catsitting priviledges.
One of them is so smart and so full of mischief his name went from Neo to GDN - God Dammit Neo. He's always into things :)
Hi Maura, Check out Great Lakes Bengal Rescue, (Or Bengal Rescue in your area) there are so many Bengals needing homes, having lost theirs thru no fault of their own...
Most rescue groups as for $150 adoption fee, but your kitty will be up to date on shots, and spay/neutered, and all the money goes to saving them....
Pass the word....
Lorraine - I just read your information on the Bengal Rescue and GLBR. I've bookmarked it for future reference for me but will pass it on to other cat people here in Washington. That's a great mix of adopting a cat in need of a home and the sheer amusement and mischief of a Bengal.
I think anyone who hasn't had a Manx or Bengal before should have to spend a week living in a household owned by them before they adopt. If you like tidy, predictable, calm and predictable, they are SO not the cats for you.
If you (like I did a few days ago) stare and burst into laughter when you find SomeCat has taken a skein of expensive alpaca yarn and created the cat's cradle of mischief and misdirection by weaving it in, under, through, over and among all the dining room furniture until it could have been presented as modern art - then you MIGHT be ready for a Manx or Bengal.
No - I have no idea how they got that skein of yarn out of the zipped knitting bag it was in - especially since the bag had been put inside a cabinet equipped with child locks....
I need to let my current cat population reduce on its own before I contemplate another cat, though. My husband may move me to the duck coop if I come home with ANOTHER cat.
Sigh - back to work on the current WIP and trying to forget I'm waiting to maybe hear from an agent. I'm being helped by three cats, none of which can type or plot worth beans....
Maura: they got into the locked cabinet because all cats know where the dimensional wormholes are. It's genetics. And SCIENCE.
Agent Orange! :D I love it.
Quick peek at the kittens - nooo, kittens, want!!! - and a polite request for Aline's migraine to go away or face The Wrath of Fluffy.
And Serenity - we had a city councilman who let his pure-blood Persian roam the neighborhood and get pregnant and he would never take the kittens. There were poor, scruffy, longhair matted-fur kitties all over the place. My friend who lived there was livid but afraid to kidnap the mommy and have her spayed. She figured he'd sue. Aaargh. These people will be the first to go in the coming Zombie Apocalypse. And their "pets" will go to the nice fiendish-types!
Gotta go and get in shape (supposedly...)
I think they were all snickering at me as I crawled through the room, untangling and reballing the yarn. Sure it took almost an hour but it was NICE yarn!
Then I realized it might have been a hint and am knitting them some catnip-filled sushi toys.
I'm pwned.
(And, yes, I blame typos on them. They haven't written to deny it - yet.)
Kid is not allowed to see the total cuteness on this blog. I'm having a hard enough time resisting kitties. He nearly had me convinced when we walked by a bunch up for adoption from the local shelter on Sunday. Must deal with the animals I currently have! (yeah, the ones who seem to be having bathroom problems in various areas of my house...) :sigh: How can I be so irritated by the mess and still know full well I'll have more animals some day?
Between kitten cuteness here and my friend posting pics of two puppies she found lost in the park, I'm surprised I've kept myself from raiding the local animal shelter.
Oh, such muffins! I'll pop my fiver in the post ASAP. Good on you for taking care of these little felines.
~Karla
Ok, packed. Had to do creative rearranging to not have bag be over weight limit w/ both mine and ben's stuff but i managed it. Had to move hubby's clothes to his own bag. The smaller suitcase is more manageable anyway.
Now, have to clean kitchen and then go see PJ Harvey tonight before flying out tomorrow to see the inlaws.
Fiendom come is upon us!!
Safe and hassle-free travels, all ye gathering fiends. See you in a week!
GAH, so super cute.
Believe it or not, I am going to The Prom tomorrow night.
Yep. A local group is holding a Prom as a fundraiser for my org, and I'm there to represent. Thank the fods I found a date! (well, I'm borrowing one from a friend, anyhow) Here's hoping we have fun!
Meanwhile, offline for the weekend. Everyone have a good one!
It is so hot that Paul and I are going to play naked tonight. Which could be good or bad, depending on your point of view.
The kittens are warming up nicely, not from the heat, but with knowing me. They have had lots of visitors today.
It's too hot to play.
Insist the crowd get nekked too then you'll be less self concious and all will be cool & comfy!! I hope it warms up here, we're camping tomorrow night and dancing the day away at the Middlewich Boat & Folk Festival - Thea Gilmore woooo!
I'm watching a cool Leonard Cohen documentary, but the TV guide is insisting its part of Neil Young night?!
Wishing you all fun weekends :o)
Thea??? I am so jealous! She is in my top five Rocks Most list!
I am off to sweat. I mean rock. Fine line, hopefully both will be happening. Will twitter from the show.
Remember, I can read your comments, and love it on breaks. I can't post here tho, only on twitter. My blackberry is like that.
I can't even remember the last time I felt so sticky. Air as thick as cream.
Pretty much the same in Chicago. And my apartment is a converted attic. Hope my dinner guests don't decide it's really a sauna party and start hitting me with branches.
Best of rock to you. Maybe you could take a stack of handkerchiefs to wipe your brow, then throw to the screaming fans.
Fiends! Hi! I have a tiny bit of time, and it happened to coincide with internet access, so I'm trying to catch up a bit on comments.
phiala!! Hi. Soon. We will see each other soon....
Hi Siri! Yes, very very soon! Hooray!
My a lot has happened on the interwebs while I wasn't looking.
Do you want a kitty?
I think my 15-year old grouchy boy cat probably needs to be a single cat for the (hopefully long) rest of his grouchy old life. (He's actually really sweet. To people.) My first duty is to the critters I am already responsible for (and if you've been following along, you know the dog responsibility just got a LOT more challenging).
And if not, there's a little black kitten in my area looking for a home. She's going to the vet shortly to get shots. If she's healthy, I may see if she'll fit into the household.
Six days until I leave?! What the heck happened?!! Wow!
Read all the comments.
Wrote the talk I'm giving on Sunday.
Do I dare peek at Twitter?.... I had really better not. No good can come of Twitter tonight.
Speaking of Twitter,
Phiala killed the thread, dead.
All the fiends? Silent.
Night, Fiendom.....
Night, Siri.
My dinner guests have gone home. Two librarians and an architect do not make for a wild late-night party ;-) Lovely to have good company.
Hi, Noelle, Donna, and Dina James! Welcome to the ranks of Fiend! Part of your welcome package includes a nice white, buckled jacket and materials to personalize your jacket. :)
Maura, your jacket has rhinestones? Shiny! :)
Note to self: Wear Spicy Brains next week, especially while traveling.
Ooops. I said that out loud, didn't I?
Kittens are very impressionable before they are weaned. After weaning, if they haven't been handled enough, they are probably going to be feral.
Yes, we had tons of feral females in our neighborhood when I was a kid.
Fiver(s) for Hope will arrive with me. My original cat was an older cat adoption. Such a sweet girl.
My new boys are also rescues. They are the sweetest pair and are into everything.
Good luck to Hope and her little ones.
Oh - And Rock ON, Rock Goddess. Banish the heat and sticky with the power of your music.
The eve of the Fiendocracy approacheth.
Accomplished a few or a hundred things before lunch, it seems, including finally *ahem* finding a place to stay while in MN, and getting guy to airport. Did a hundred more things after lunch, just watched some Dr Who with the monsters, and soon to sleep. Oh, I ache, and will ache tomorrow, but all worth it. Gardens cleared and planted, house gaining in tidiness, work thoroughly avoided for a day.
Have begun to collect the various items needed for long trip. I have a few books I was planning to donate to the library (or, more likely, one of their book sales, since they don't take in much that's more than 5 years old, they told me). Is anyone interested in reading "True Blood"? Or "North by Northanger"? Anyone a fan of Wm Blake? (Latter is a cute older edition of collected poems.)
Happy rocking, Q. Happy weekending, all!
The new Fiendocracy begins in T minus 7 days.
Are you prepared?
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Is it possible to be prepared? Truly? Today I am going to start making heaps (=phase 1 of packing)...
Good Morning to anyone who is up early, Good Night t anyone who is up late :-)
Well, I rocked, but I do believe my show was seriously under attended. Aleta was there tho which made up for most everything. She does great audience and found me the chords and lyrics to the Dixie Chicks "Goodbye Earl"
Which were needed.
Weird night.
Came home to Magic and his Pee Fest. ALL over the throw rugs, it stunk like I'd never cleaned a litter box. What the HECK???? Not exactly what I needed this evening.
Sounds like Magic felt he was neglected...
And, what with the heat, it would smell stronger.
Hugs.
And a Good Morning, Marjorie!
na, i'm interested in those books :) not thati need any more, but that's not the point.
i need a vacation from my vacation. i showed by dutch friends around ton and it was a blast. pity they left.
by this time next week i will be in mn meeting up with ticia and getting ready to have some fun! i'm so excited.
Maybe Magic knows about the new house guests? Or didn't like the heat? Either way so sorry that you had to come home to that.
Why am I still up?
Need to put down guitar and go to sleep. Have an idea in mind tho involving Dixie Chicks Goodby Earl. I hate it when you have to work these things out..
Nice tho that so many people are up overseas!
The Gods alone know why Magic does what he does. I love him, and am the only person who can deal with him, but it does get wearing,
tick
later, fiends.
Having breakfast with Neal Stephenson (well. His latest book at any rate).
Sleep well you all that need sleeping.
oh no, no fun, having to clean up pee in the middle of the night. guess your post-gig running around the house will not be fun. maybe, what Aleta said, he smells/senses Hope and kits?
vampi, i'll bring de books along.
so, hot and humid weather in MN? i must be the only person i know thinking of MN as "the south".
well, i've attempted to "catch up" on twitterage. that was silly.
'night/morning! see many of you very soon! *goes to sleep thinking about packing for trip*
Good Morning Nathalie. (and anyone else who is having a morning)
Sorry to hear you came back to pee, Q. I'd guess Magic is unsettled by Hope & the kittens (I guess he may be able to smell them on you, even if he can't see them)but must be very waering for you.
Your place in Kitty Heaven will be an exulted one!
Morning.
Chantrelle - you got to see Miss Polly Jean??? I want your life. OK that sounded a little more serial-killer than intended, might need another cup of tea. Tea goes well with the Be Good Tanyas.
It's Midsummer tomorrow, anyone doing anything special to mark it?
Miss FabLo, you truly are the Goddess of Cat Rescue.
Can I send a Euro fiver, or will it sit useless at the bottom of the jar? I have no idea how to get my hands on a 5 dollar bill here, without paying exorbitant exchange fees (I'm a part-time working student on a budget, unfortunately).
Lorraine- Can I just say once again how much you rock, on all fronts? You are truly a life rockstar. Hope and we are lucky to have you in our lives. I will be bringing a fiver on Friday...
Friday?? When did that happen? Fiends, I am so excited to see everyone...
And The Be Good Tanyas, Dixie Chicks, and PJ Harvey... all great rockstars as well, but not one can measure op to our Quiche.
I don't know if everyone is aware of this or not, but Quiche will be playing LIVE at Fiendom Come... I know, I know, how lucky are WE? *grin*
Alright, I've got to stop hogging the high seas internets. Just wanted to say "hi".
I hope to return to the twitter world on Monday, but may wait until after Fiendom Come... We'll see... work may swallow me whole this week...
And, I'm sorry Magic peed all over everything. Just proves that cat's are all knowing and jealous overlords.
All hail the feline overlords!
Oh, and ::POKE:: to Siri! :-D
TICIA!!!! ::waves madly:: hello! :)
FGood afternnon everyone! I have followed the lead of other fiends and now have New hair (Or at least, shorter hair)
Looking good, Marjorie.
Back from a few days in Washington to read all sorts of exciting and happy stories! The mystery of where are Hope and her kittens, finally solved.
Cat pee, always a message of some sort, hard to figure out what message, sometimes.
Fivers will be in the mail on Monday.
Nathalie. I have Anathem to read, is that the one you're reading? How is it?
Veh naaahce! Looks good on you!
I have not managed to get one of these haircut things yet. Need one, too-- it's all heavy and hangy and I'm sick of it. Not doing so well on my to-do list, here.
So just look at this thing Val did for me! Isn't it great? :D
(Hint: she can be paid to do these sorts of things. Support your local artist now etc.)
Anathem is good! A little complicated (more than your usual Stephenson) and the special vocabulary he has created does not help but th book still reads well. It is very different from his usual stuff.
That's wonderful, Jess (and Val) and sure to put your visitors at ease.
Exactly! :D
oh that's v. cool. i would buy something like that with a ye olde bat on it. lol!
Lazy day here. House things, tea, and tending all these cats.
Here's hoping the gig tonight is a bit better attended. Ought to be, it's way cooler and less humid, I think people just didn't feel like going anywhere last night. Except Aleta, who saved us.
Good on Aleta.
Here the weather was a bit moody today so we staid at home.
Been snapping pictures (am currently loading up food porn on Flickr and DA), cooking and reading.
happily lazing around here, too. kids are watching My Neighbor, Totoro (the recent better-translated version). dragonet's playing in a soccer tournament today. had one game this morning, and i thought we should all laze around and rest until the next one this afternoon.
feel like i should be doing more, working, reading, writing, anything. but gosh it's nice to just sit.
have been amusing myself watching "literal versions" of 80s videos on YouTube. my favorite so far: White Wedding (warning, the Total Eclipse of the Heart one contains some "mature" language)
Boss and Mads came over after they did Farmers Market! They brought me strawberries. And they got in some Bengal and kitten time.
The kittens are really getting friendly, and playful! One of the grey's is very shy, and one bold. Agent Orange is delightful. They sleep in piles. And INSTANT litter box trained, thanks be.
Vet for them all on Wednesday.
I seem to be melting. Need to get get that AC in the window. That requires some cleaning first -- which will make me more melty. Maybe I will just go outside where experience tells me it is cooler. I like my upstairs apartment -- but it does get HOT up here.
Yummy strawberries! Poor Dog. Kitten Pile! Sounds like the sort of restful day you want/need/deserve Ms Quiche!
Oh and thanks for all the kind words about my audience skills! I really liked that you guys were able to just play what you wanted to by the end. AND I loved that there was some stuff that was new to me. Can't wait to hear all the rock planned for next weekend and I bet tonight will be packed with good people!
'Cat pee, always a message of some sort, hard to figure out what message, sometimes.'
I think the message might be "Life is Stinky Some Days." I could be wrong, though.
Heh - less than a week! Woo!
Listening to "A Dirty Job" with the offspring. Hilarious. We are bringing our iPods and a multiple-headphone jack so we can hoot in unison on the plane. You may hear about us before we get there...
Fell asleep a couple hours ago. Good thing I woke up as I so have to leave now for the gig!
Fashion tonight will be, apparently, sporty, as that's what I am wearing.
Wish me ROCK!
hope there are more people at your gig tonight!
people, Finally I could organize a small album of my cats, hope you enjo it! they are my life...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ayslin1/sets/72157619935716941/
and Saturday is gone....
Aline, your cats are gorgeous - and you had itty bitty brand new kittens! Fun.
My envy is growing proportionately as it gets closer to you all getting together in MN *sigh*
Dragonsally
yes, when Cello got home, he was a "child"...but months later...Dana had 2 kittens (only)...and I had her spayed because as soon as she gave birth to Marie and Ying she enjoyed the "idea" and was trying again... LOL
I know how you feel about not being able to gather :(
I think we should have an on line party...can´t you gathering people at some point skype? LOL
otherwise, Dragonsally and I will have an only party for those far away! :D
Sally and Aline. I believe I heard Dr. Wicked will webcast one or the other night. I'm going to miss all the interwebs chatter from Tuesday night through the following Monday, because I don't travel with computer.
How will I live that long without my Sal?
Still can't believe Dan went on vacation with his family, rather than working 24/7 to get the transporter done. Sheesh.
siri, you'll be there? you are welcome to use my laptop anytime you need to check up.
Wishing you coolness and ROCK.
Happy Solstice Fiends!
Whew - Thanks, Vampi - I may survive after all!
Some day, when I can think again, I will consider buying one of them there laptop thingies.
Up at 4:30AM. At work before 7. Left there after 2:30. Didn't leave my desk for lunch. Weary cowboy tonight. Good think I don't have to rock.
yesss Happy Solstice... although it's the Winter one down here :D (and I preffer freezing than melting! LOL)
How will I live without my Siri? And the rest of you going to MN. I'm kinda hoping that we might set up a chat room somewhere on the interwebs when you're all together..with webcam, so w can wave madly at each other.
Oh - and Happy Solstice of the Winter and Summer variety to all.
The days get longer for me now, although the colder weather is yet to come.
Just like us, Sally, 'cept at the other end of the lengthening and shortening. Our coldest weather comes the 2 months after the winter solstice. Silly sun.
I hope will do some sort of chatting too. I don't know if WaterStreet is wireless, but....
Home after a long day out and about. Dang it's hot. A bit less humid though.
Quickly catching up, I see cute new hair and cute cats. Fun!
Wishing Lorraine a night of Rock and all the fiends a good evening/morning/I-get-confused. Hope is was a very good longest or shortest day for all.
Going to bed now - went to friends' for dinner and am tired from all that strenuous eating...
We will have at least one laptop with us in MN, so peeps are welcome to catch up if they need to. Back tomorrow.
What are the chances I'll wake up early enough to walk before it's 90F?
Glad there has been ROCK both nights, Ms. Fabulous, even if last night was underattended. I hope Magic doesn't repeat last night's, um, eliminations in inappropriate places.
Cute hair, Marjorie!
Dread Val did a lovely job on your sign, Jess. Never fear, I won't be sneaking food off your plate. In fact, I'm not sure I would accept any even if you offered. ;)
Aline, beautiful kitties!
Siri, and everybody else, Charlie's has wireless. That's what Dr. Wicked has used in the past when webcasting Paul & Lorraine in the past. :)
Sally, Aline, and anybody else that can't be at Fiendom Come, but wants to be, your turn will come. I missed Balticon four years ago, and Ms. Fabulous firbday concert last year, but I'll be there this year!
Merry Solstice everyone!
Much rock happened tonight, nice lead up to next weekend. And no pee fest from Magic.
Home now, tended the beasties and going to sleep. Not sure there is anything better after two days of gigs know one can sleep and sleep and have nothing urgent in the morning...
Happy Solstice everyone!
Siri (and others) I too have a 'puter - little itty bitty netbok I bought on the spur of the moment, so where there is wireless, we shall be fine! (I belive it can Sykpe, but i haven't worked out quite how, yet.
Today, I need to iron things and then pack them.
Also possibly reduce the heap of stuff to pack, which currently includes every garment I have ever owned. I suck at packing.
Maybe I should have coffee and get dressed first?
Note to packing people: The pub is going to be HOT. Wear as little as possible, even with the AC and the doors open, place gets warm when packed. Which it will be, trust me.
Aline, your cats are beautiful!
Q, thnaks for the advice - I'm packing summery clothes, I just have an irrational fear of packing the Wrong Stuff (and after all, it's not as though there are any shops whatsoever in Minneapolis...)
Just a quick drive-by from SF to *wave* 'cause I miss y'all.
Kittens in the ficus are killing me with teh KYOOT. Especially mister marmalade.
Hope you had a Happy Solstice:)
Oh, Marjorie, did I say how much I love your new haircut?
I just watched an episode of Dark Shadows before - so hilariously over acted, but glorious. I've not seen it before.
when i was a kid, the one station used to show dark shadows on sunday afternoons. i remember being amused .
And.... off to phase three of the Michigan adventure. I'll be in Grand Rapids until Wednesday, and then zip home just in time to do laundry and catch a plane!
I'll be working in GR, but should also have better internet access. Not that I'm ever going to catch up or anything, of course.
More advice for packing. Pack early, then day of trip, take most of it out. You will not have what you need when you get here, so why not bring less of it?
LOTS of shops in Stillwater, if you like old books, new books, cool clothes or antiques....
I will do a new post tonight. Hoping for a ride this afternoon. For now, more tea.
Good Advice! I have done step ione - packing early - wil try to unpack some of it tomorrow!
After all, if i run out of clothes some Mn bsed fiend will be able to show me the way to a laundrette, yes?
Caught up. Have had many college age visitors for past week, doing all sorts of things. Today is quiet...and, now that it's noon, I guess I should get started doing ....something.
Great, totally true packing advice, Lo.
Turns out we are not going to Old Songs due to lack of dollars. Damn car repairs and being responsible. No, this doesn't mean I can run away to Mn. Darn. But I can do the virtual party....I think.
Marjorie, the Fiends here most likely have washers and dryers. Fiends don't let Fiends go to Launderettes!
The show will be webcast both nights too! 7:30 to 11:30 PM USA Central time.
And yes, there is wireless in the pub, so you can do whatever you like online.
This fiend goes to the laundromat about half the time. The other half I use the downstairs neighbor/landlords machine.
And a very Merry Solstice to all, both here, and on the other side of the planet. What a truly amazing thing that we can communicate in real time, all that way!
Goes on my list of wonders, it does. Along with wonderous Lorraine and all the Fiends.
"do whatever you like online"
um, that could be dangerous.
i'm packing some skirts and tshirts and something to sleep in. are water activities a possible? need to know if i should dig out the swimsuit.
you guys wont hate if you see the same skirt more than once, will you? lol!
We'll be laundering before leaving the inlaws so i don't have to duplicate skirts
Chicago is lovely so far. Hotel and inlaws house is what we've seen...oh and the whole foods by my hotel, had to get wine we could actually drink (inlaws have wine, not tastebuds though) ;-)
Back to visiting now!
Added some state and county parks around Stillwater to the Fiendom Come map. A couple of these have swimming beaches.
I need to go get some breakfast. Okay. I guess I mean brunch.
People are planning outfits? Thank god I have that pair of brown jeans. Maybe that way no one will notice how similar all my tee shirts are.
Personally I'm unplugging for this event. The internet can live without me for four days. And I don't have portable gear anyway. You heard me right: I said no laptop. Though by this time next year we're probably going to have one. Manwife keeps making noises about getting a "good gaming laptop". I've been talked into it because I can take it down to the coffee shop to write. But: how much writing will I actually do on a machine that'll have Elder Scrolls V on it? I'm betting not much.
Yammer yammer. Good Sunday, everyone. Have some girly flowers.
Jess - you and I can go in a corner and be luddites.
And, may I suggest a pair of shorts, too. Temps are predicted to be in the upper 80s/lower 90s for part of the week. I'm just sayin'.
And, Jess - I'm collecting cell phone numbers for airport pick-ups. Will you share yours with me?
Vampi and Phiala, same request....
slgranbe at gmail dot com.
T-5 days.
Siri - I own no portable communication devices. We'll will have to do things the old fashioned way, i.e., agree upon a place to meet and describe what we'll be wearing. (Also, the manwife is hard to miss. He has really long hair.)
You are so cool!!!!!
Baggage claim. Everyone always meets at the baggage claim....
We'll will? What interesting grammar.
It is an old fashioned phrase, I am sure.
Luddites live...
Old-fashioned insofar as I typed one sentence, deleted it, then wrote it another way. "We'll" was part of the new sentence. "Will" is a relic of the old one. It's like writer-intent archaeology or something.
it's a palimpsest, interwebs style.
I am not planning outfits, I'm just making Heaps of Things.
Realised when I was packing that I appear to have bpought exactly the same T-shirt twice without realising it.
Now trying to decide which books I can fit in.
Don't bring books. Go to Dreamhaven and buy some new ones, silly.
No cell phone? No laptop Jess? So, what? When you have to answer e-mail in the middle of the night, you, like have to get out of bed and go to your computer????
Harsh.
Good plan, Lo -
Margo - we will have time on Thursday to check out the bookstores, and you can ship home whatever you don't want to carry home.
Woo!
i has sent siri, and someone else by accident, my flight and phone.
i don't mind all the fiends having my number for communication. :)
are we going to have name tags? hello i answer to vampi or donielle, and i'm batty!^^*^^
Lorraine. Who answers email in the middle of the night? I've never heard of anyone doing that. Nope. Never.
Then again, I don't get much email. Not too many people out there want a piece of me.
Sigh.
Hey, there's more than one trip to the bookstores planned, right? Wouldn't want to miss that. Hubby is drooling to go.
Marjorie and I can be the advanced scouts, to make sure we go to the RIGHT book stores.
Lorraine also said there are book stores in Stillwater, so there will be many opportunities!
I could go to bookstores every day...
Of course I can buy books when I get there, but I have a train journey, a night in an airport pod hotel and 12 hours travelling before I get to Siri....
I'm going to re-read American Gods so I know what to expect when I arrive
I think we should have Laminates like the one FabLo had for JoCo & Paul & Storm, to show we have access all areas to the Paul & Lorraine show. I hear their roadies and bouncerscan be pretty harsh...
(ps - I if ship stuff home, I'll ship clothes and carry books. Gotta get the priorities right!)
Speaking of which, does anyone want Pride & Prejudice & Zombies? I'll bring mine if so, if not I will release it as a bookcrossing book instead.
I do e-mail in the night, if you wait til morning there is too much.
Dreamhaven is the best, and Uncle Hugos, both in Minneapolis. Stillwater is nuts with them too, all on the main street. For books.
I'm telling you all right now too, I will never get your names right. Most of you have THREE, real, Twitter and Blog....I must be talking with lots of you on Twitter, but have no idea I know you even!
Wish I could be there...
Zombies!!! Pride and Prejudice!!! I'll take it!!! ME MEMEMEMEMEMEMEME
Gee - that's almost a Mwahahahaha...
We wish you could too Jane, in fact, I wish everyone could be. I am really happy we can webcast both nights, you'll get to see everyone anyway.
Let's not forget about our Fiends who can't come, yes? I know we are excited, but I don't want them feeling left out by the chatter being exclusively about next weekend....
Feel freee to break in at any point, there is no "On Topic" here!
There's a song in that.
Email in the niiiight, exchanging Twitter
handles in the niiiight,
140 character messages of looooove,
untik the night is throooooough...
Doesn't quite scan.
I'm notmoro on Twitter. Otherwise I'm Jess. You will know me by the long-haired British guy I bring with me. And also the arty switchplate which I will put in your hand. (Try playing violin with that, madam! Hah! ;) )
Untik? Urgh.
I'll bring it for you, Siri ;-)
(then we can practice the maniacial laughs !)
How are the kittens today? And is Magic happier?
Hey! I have been liking Notmoro's comments. See? I knew I knew some of them were you guys!
I wonder who else I actually know..
Our new Fiend from Brazil is easy, she's the same. (Tho of course I have forgotten her name NOW)
And Jess, I DON'T Twitter in the night! That would be ridiculous, the idea! Just e-mail from the other side of the world that can't wait.
I thought you knew that was me! YOu answered back and everything! :D
Someone's got to write a full version of "Twitter in the Night" now. Then we get AFP to sing it, torch-style! It'd be brilliant.
I'm Coraline73 on twitter. My real name & blog are the same. And I'll be the Brit who isn't married to Jess.
See? Another one!
Well, I answered back because you were funny and seemed cool. Intelligent even.(Both of you!)
So, Marjorie is not married to Jess. Weird, I had thought they were...
Names? Easy. I answer faster to "Phiala" than anything else, including Sarah. (Just too many of those around, you know.)
Pronounced Fee-ah'-lah. Or most any other way, but that's how I say it.
I had plans to make skull nametags. May still happen, but seems less likely since I didn't get it done before I left town. Will try, though. Skulls would be much less dorky than regular nametags. Right? Right??
Packing? Um. Launder whatever comes out of the bag on Thursday, then throw it back in for a Friday departure? Actually, not true. I will wear much more interesting things to visit Fiends than for agricultural conferences!
And I know what knitting to bring, since I have New Yarn. :)
I will wear my Mistress of Skulls shirt on Friday, so I will be easy to locate and readily identifiable. *grin*
I do now have better internet, but only with the cable. I'm not feeling inspired to pay extra for wireless. I will have the netbook in MN, since it is tiny and has lots of ebooks on it. And I have delusions of doing some writing, even though I know I won't.
there shall be twitter and posting, not because i can't live with out the internet, but because i want to share with the far flung fiends who can't attend.
the last gathering i attended, we were all at dinner 1 night. and someone passed a cell phone and you had to take a silly pic of the person next to you. it was most fun, and i think we should do it.
i'll be the quiet one in the long twirlie skirts
I shall call you simply "Mistress"
It's funny at gigs, I tend to make up names for the audience, since mostly I don't know them, who knos what you will be called by the end of the weekend..
Aleta has a friend now known as "Purple Shirt Girl" and another called "Laser Lady" and a yet another called "Mr Nice Guy"
I also have Freebird Man, the Neville Brothers, The Jager Twins,Not You Three Again, The Possee, and, oh Fods, who can say, there are too many.
I shall practice answering to that then, because Q Must Be Obeyed.
If I was of a naughty sort of mind I would say calling you "Mistress" would imply something else....
There's a definite hierarchy, and I for one am not going to mess with the Empress of No.
I'll be watching the party via electronic devices while you all are partying. Vicarious pleasure is still pleasure.
I'm Qitou on Twitter and Sharon IRL...and on Facebook.
Phiala, thanks for the pronunciation guide to your name - that sounds quite pretty.
"Phiala" is a 5th c. Irish name - I use it for middle ages recreation stuff, but after 17 years of that (including 14 yr of living with someone I met through that, who calls me Phiala more than anything else), I'm quite used to it. And it's very nearly unique, so I always know that the person yelling from across the room means me. Unlike when you yell "Sarah" and half the women in the room turn. :)
I have made it through the email, I think. May never catch up on anything else...
Just woke up from unscheduled (but not accidental) nap. Yawn.
Mmmm, books. Need more like a hole in the head. But will definitely look for more. Will be especially glad of suggestions for stores where editions of Sterne may be found.
Lorraine, I'd b glad to answer to whatever name you choose. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be That-crazy-but-dull-stalker-woman.
OSS, no chance! :)
No one here is dull.
*whew* I have nearly survived the weekend. One monster had a soccer tournament; four games in two days. And of course it's a weekend I'm all-purpose parenting.
Merry solstice! Last night we had a lovely rain storm come through. Well I'd call it lovely, as it was cooling and refreshing and I wasn't out in it. Neighbors for some reason were trying out a new tent in the yard. Under the impression they didn't sleep very well.
I have now charted a course for MN. Am planning to come via Winnipeg-Fargo-MSP. If anyone has any warnings or recommendations for that route, I'd be grateful to hear 'em.
Am yet very much keeping in mind Fiends all over who are staying home or are elsewhere next weekend.
Oof. Brain. Stalling.
Sock, I second what Phiala and Jane said. :)
I note no one is disputing the "crazy" ;-)
Well, no, crazy is not a problem, usually :-) Joking, you know. Have seen nothing to indicate craziness beyond the norm.
Starting to think about packing and realizing I don't really have summer clothes. I have work clothes, which are based on the assumption that I will be in an over-air-conditioned library. And I have ragged bum-around-the-house clothes, which are based on the assumption that no one else is around.
So I'll be the overheated, librarian-looking one.
I will be traveling laptop-less, but will have my trusty Blackberry for keeping the far-flung fiends in on the party.
"Oh, remember to pack that certain something for our fearless leader!" said the crazy-but-maybe-not-too-dull-stalker-woman to herself.
Funny? Seemingly intelligent? Excellent! Fooled you good and proper.
Marjorie's out of my league. I'd have been too shy to propose.
I've been sticking with "Fluffy" online and I think I may legally change my name to it. It seems more interesting and dignified than "Bobbee." I answer to either, or "Mom" from young teenage girls.
Thank goodness most of our clothes are for warm weather. If anyone needs cool clothes for not much $$ WalMart has good 100% cotton interlock t-shirts and lots of shorts or capri pants. I know it's the evil empire, but their clothes fit me! I also have lots of cardigans because Texans looove their A/C and stores here tend to be cold in the summer.
BOOKSTORES!!! Woohoo!
