Poetry In Motion....

Riding this morning was full of surprises.

First off, I know I have said it before, but it bares saying again, I love this stable. I love the people, (whose sole criteria for taking you in as one of them seems to be "Do you love horses and are you a nice person?, Yes? Cool, you're in" ) I love having the chance to learn to ride in such a really lovely area, on a great horse, with a trainer as great as my friend Melissa. I love having something I have to really work at, if I am ever going to be any good.

Today was a bit different in that She Who Owns The Whole Thing was there riding as well. (Not different in terms of Cool People, she's great, very nice, I quite like her) but in that she was riding too. Let me explain...And since She Who Owns the Whole Thing is a bit long, we will call her Poetry, because she rides the way great poets put words together.

As in, she and the horse are not separate, they are ONE. Her horses are the kind we dreamed about when we were five and first wanted a pony. IE. Really. Cool. Horses. And as I said, she can ride them. I've seen her ride before, but had never quite imagined riding in the ring with her.

Sort of the riding equivalent of jamming with Bela Fleck. I mean, he's nice and fun and great and just a guy, but when he PLAYS, it's a whole different set of notes. And imagine him saying, "Hey, let's do some tunes.." Well, you sure as heck don't turn it DOWN, but what goes thru your head, as you casually say, sure, why not is something like FUCKFUCKFUCKOHMYGODSWHATAMIDOING!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the way I felt this morning riding.

I did manage not to go all Wayne's World on her, but truly, I am not worthy! (I'm kind of jaded these days, not a lot phases me, been a long time since I've gone all fan girl..)

I loved every moment of it.

A little trial by fire never hurt anyone.

Magic just came out and RATS!!!!!!!!! I let Venus and Mim down for a bit when I got home, never thinking he would come out when I was here. No hissing or fighting, but they all sort of chirriped, like birds, and he ran back down. I have go to get this Kitty back to his room and am starting to despair. I am going to put food in there tonight and come down every couple of hours and see if I can get him while he is in there. I don't want to live trap him, that will set us back, but I don't know what to do, he can't live in the basement. Playing Bouzouki for the rest of his life. (Wait, didn't mean to say that)

What else tonight, it has been a really long day, and I need to get some sleep as I can. Been listening to Thea Gilmour kind of obsessively for the past few days, non-stop. Can't stop. Not sure why I would want to. She's one, if you don't know her music, you ought to.

Love and Poetry,
Lorraine

Glad at least the riding went the way it was supposed to today. :)

Magic is being a male, isn't he. ;)

Yay for happy riding stories!

Also hooray for bengal meetings that didn't devolve into yowls or violence. Chirps are good noises! If it were me, I'd leave trapping as the very last resort, especially since he's coming up when you're around. He misses you!

Riding did go well, which makes me happy. I am going again in the morning before work. And if I ride with people who really know what they are doing, so much the better.

Magic does miss me I think. I like it that he came out. I don't want him roaming tho, as he does tend to pee, which is fine on the waterproof futon in his room, but not so much in the rest of the house....

::snort:: Been coveting a bouzouki, have yo- I mean, has Magic? Found one has he? Poor Mr. Merritt.

The ride with 'Poetry' sounds like its own sort of magic; something to wake up and shake up your soul a bit, in a very nice way. Well, that's my impression from reading your post.

Have had tea - warming and decaf. On a whim put more honey in than usual and mmmmm.

i knew the bazouki was magicked away! ;)

riding with someone whos is that good must be amazing. like dancing with a pro, you just fall into their pattern and learn so much.

hubby is on his plane heading back in time and we'll pick him up before he even left tomorrow :)

yay! being a single mom is not what i want to be!

So glad that Magic misses you. Riding with Poetry sounds wonderful. Love that it brought out your inner fangirl.

I love that the bengals chirped at each other.

I am exhausted and seeing things in mystical terms.
Poetry in gaited motion.
Bengal Magic like the Cheshire Cat, now you see him, now you don't.
Flying bouzoukis playing ghostly tunes.
Luggage skulking in the corner.

Something magical is in the air.

At 01:40 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Huh...

Guess I'm not too surprised that Neil doesn't have a bouzouki on tap.

But somehow I rather thought your Spooky Haus *would*.

Have a bouzouki close to hand, that is.

Just hanging about. I mean, I recall tripping over them like gumballs or hotcakes (or something FREQUENT like that....)when I lived in Minneapolis...

Great riding post, by the way. Much envy on my part. But I am most happy for you, that you have found this sport and this place to grow within and be happy.

Magic is having way too much fun. He's probably wondering why you think he needs to go back into his room, he's perfectly happy out!

Hope today's riding is as wonderful as yesterday's!

At 02:04 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sorry. I'm probably being difficult, but does it matter which room Magic is in?

He comes out for food, they didn't tear each other apart, it's a pain finding it if he pees, but if any visitors mind, all the better you can get rid of them more quickly!! (I had a bad experience with another parent who just wouldn't go home last night)

He obviously loves you.

Ariandalen, I know Quiche may have explained, but what the hell does Spicy Brains smell like???

Chantrelle, I hope your hubby got truly welcomed at the Anderson roundabout :)

I'm off to AFP soon. I can't wait :)

Oh, and lost bazoukis? Have you ever heard "Danny Boy" played on the bazouki? or for that matter many traditional Irish songs? It is pretty amazing. There is an Irish bar on Patmos (well there was 23 years ago) :(

I think the baggage handling staff will be having a whale of a time with it!!! (Just check for scratches)

Grr. Blogger ate my comment.

So glad you had such a great time riding - it sounds awesome, and must be lovely to have the time to do it after the hectic time you & Boss have had recently.

Re: Magic - I can see why you need him back in hi room 0 there is only so much cat pee on the carpets and furniture which one can take, and of course if he pees the others may feel the need to mark their territory too...
Id it worth delaying feeding him so that he gets hungry and using this to lure him back to his room at a time when you can shut the door? I did also wonder whether there is anything like the vaccum clener which makes him nervous - not to threaten him, of course, but something that, if you use it (say) 1 room away, might make him decide he's be safer in his own cave? (and which with luck he won't associate directly with you!)

Hooray for riding! For you, anyway - my officemate took a fall this weekend. She's okay, luckily, but bruised and sore.

I only have one Thea Gilmore album, but intend to get more. I don't think I've ever gotten a bad music recommendation from Boss.

Having to remind myself, today. I can't believe I'm on Day 6 of this thing and I STILL FEEL LIKE POOP!

At 06:44 Blogger dabbler said...

My heart wants to say let Magic find his way to get along with Mim and Venus. But my head knows that's too risky...for him, and poor Spooky House, too. Good luck, Lorraine, I know you'll figure it out...it's one of your many gifts, intelligence from a loving heart.

Good morning all! a bright and sunny day, tho very cold here. great riding post Lorraine - our local stable is owned by a poet too, and it is incredibly beautiful to watch her ride. sigh. hope the bouzuki (sp?) turns up today, as well as the rest of the luggage. Magic is such a naughty boy-partying the night away, i sure hope you can lure him back to his room soon. how about suspending food in his room so it takes him some time to try to bat at it and catch it? might give you time to shut the door? Ours was finally thirsty, that was what clinched it for us. good luck with him, and have a wonderful tuesday all!

Magic is, no doubt, preparing for his future role of Stealth Infiltrator in the Bee-Bengal Alliance.

At 07:48 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Still at large, tho he did eat his food I left in his room at night.

It's not a matter of what people would say about cat pee everywhere, it is what -I- would say. I have a lot of really nice antique furniture and I like my home, and do not want it peed all over.

And if he lives like this, h will never bond. And I want him too.

Tonight I am going to clean his room good, as it needs it, then it is a live trap for Mr Magic, unless I come up with anything better. And Hans will build him some Things for his room.

Sue, glad to hear it and nice turn of phrase, owned by a poet. Poets ride. Poetry in motion indeed.

Tea. The ride. Yes, tea.

Wake in a panic thinking I was late, but it's just this darn lock of mine that is SO high tech, I don't know how to re-set it, it's meant to sync up or something, and I cannot re-set it, so it is 50 minutes fast, for like a year now.

Apparently I forgot this this morning.

At 08:32 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Hmmph. Just little old me again, here wit m tea.

Magic came out just now, and they do CHIRP!!!!!!!!

He looked at all of us, everyone Chirped and then he went back down, but no one was angry or scared.

Could not of course do anything about getting him back, so I didn't try, would only convince him coming out would be bad....

At 08:37 Blogger Phiala said...

He is obviously having a Grand Adventure and will come back when he's good and ready.

I'm sure I wouldn't be nearly as entertained if it were my Bengal loose in the basement!

Looking forward to the general Fiendly release of spicy brains.

At 08:42 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Adventure indeed!

I am off to ride.

Chatter me nice things, Fiendish ones...

At 09:20 Blogger Marjorie said...

I guess it's good that no-one is sngrey of scared.

A Thought: if you do have to resort to live-trapping him, is it worth while getting someone else (Maybe Woodsman Hans or MerryHousekeeper or Boss) to set up the trap and take it into his room, and for you then to be the one to let him out of it and give him food treats and things to play with? That way, the trap won't have your scent on it and he may not associate you with any unpleasantness and won't casue him to lose trust in you

At 09:49 Blogger Jess said...

Hurrah for cantering poets! :) It's fun to begin to see the beauty in an activity like that, to see what makes it an art. Nifty cool. Are you riding pretty much every day, now, or is it just this week?

It is good that they're all chirruping; I think Magic's also being exceedingly polite to the girls. That's why he keeps going back down-- he knows he's in their territory, so he says hello and then gets out of their space. Part of the trick might be to make sure the girls are out of the way the next time he comes up.

Has he been peeing down in the basement? He doesn't seem that scared, really, and I think I remember you saying that he mainly pees when he's scared, rather than to mark territory. So if he's not actually peeing now, and he seems to be using his litter box...would he be likely to start? I dunno, it's a thought. He definitely wants to explore.

For that matter: do the girls have the roam the house at night? If they've seen him wandering around, that might actually be why they're inclined to chirp helloes rather than fight.

Cats. They're interesting. (Decalred Captain Obvious.)

Today I meet for the first time an author whose book I am copyediting. It's a sort of interview, I need to understand some of her thinking, in order to make some styling decisions for consistency. I feel like I am embarking on a curious balancing act.

And my house is spooking me, I don't know why. Although it may have to do with the music player that turns itself on from time to time, which I didn't think was really happening until it happened with me in the room (could previously assume the kids must have left it on). I've been home here alone before, but today it feels weird. I've been all through it with a baseball bat and my cell phone in hand, and am confident there are no other hoominz in here right now. Curiouser and curiouser.

Na - ooh, ghost stories! Is it an old house? We lived in an old victorian that had a ghost. Hubby was the only one who didn't believe in her and he actually saw her one night! I was pissed, i wanted to see her! She'd turn on/off the oven, stove, washing machine, rattle doorknobs, etc. Nothing scary (except the oven, 4 of us turned it off) so we asked her not to do anything to harm the house and she didn't do it again!

It was cool actually :)

At 10:56 Blogger Phiala said...

I have a ghost cat in my house, the Ghost ghost.

At 11:04 Blogger Jess said...

Lucky Chantrelle! You'd think I'd get ghosts in this house, seeing as the doctor who lived in the house a couple of doors down-- this was during the early 1900s or so-- used to send his patients up here to use the bathroom. (True story! A neighbor sent me a letter about it the year we moved in; the doc didn't have plumbing in his home office and didn't want to expose his family to diseases by letting them into his house. So he exposed his neighbors instead! Nice guy!) You'd think at least one patient would have died in there.

There was also a fire, something like 75 years ago. Where are the ghosts from that, I ask you? It ought to have killed somebody. Unless they all got out. I don't actually know-- I've just got charred beams in my attic. I can only speak for the beams.

No ghosts. Just and endless parade of home-improvement headaches. Meh.

The house not particularly old, built in the 70s. I still wonder about ghosts. Don't know if I'd really want to see one or not. Not utterly convinced I believe in them or not. *Dah dee dum dah-dah, and SPIN!*

I've been embroiled this afternoon in High Drama with the Library Literary Group. Feeling stabby. Thinking it might be a good idea to reassess my involvement with them. Long story short: they want to kick a guy out for being argumentative. He's only been with us for two meetings, but they don't want to "sacrifice" everything we've "achieved" for one person who's "not committed" to the group.

Sacrifice which achievements, exactly? We haven't done anything apart from host a couple of readings, then sit around patting each other on the back for writing poems. Will one annoying guy make that stop? Hey, you know what? Bring it on. Let's do something for a change. I didn't get involved just to group hug once a month.

Remember what you were telling us, Lys, about the Group of 200 Snoots who turn up at every arts event in your town? It's just like that, except there are only five of them. Led by a friggin' diva.

Argh, argh, argh. I know this thing needs to happen-- the community and the library need a group to support literary programming. But sometimes it's very hard, and I can't hep but question why I bother.

Sorry. Just call me Rantypants. :(

At 15:42 Blogger Na said...

Hey Rantypants! Been there, too. Sounds like the group needs to increase in number. More people means less opportunity for a self-appointed diva to outspeak everyone else. :) Anyone else in the group possibly feeling the way you do?

At 15:45 Anonymous Anonymous said...

Love the new blog!

That little stinker Magic...but how funny that they just chirp at each other. He's saying "hi gals!" and they are saying "eew, boy cooties, but no, let's let him live, maybe he will play kill-the-mousie with us..."

When you can't see him, he is probably sitting in the basement wondering when he gets his next "trail of tuna" treat and where are the toys hidden for later when you are asleep.

At 16:06 Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Jess, you must out fox this diva-ass. Shouldn't be hard, people like that are their own worst enemies. For Fods sake, I hate that sort. SNOOTS are evil.

There are lots in the horse world, but not at MY barn!

What in Fods name is a Malware and how did it get loose? Did it bolt from it's bedroom like my soon to be live trapped Magic?

Actually, I am going to play featherstick and have the foo acroos the room and see if I can't get the basement door closed, he'll run to his room then. Might work. Might now.

Hey Marla, glad you like ti! Yes, they Chirp, not Mew. Really weird.

Hi Jodyth, well, we would be happier if he was sitting in his room...Hans is going to build him things to make him happier...If we can get him back there.

Marjorie: He is rather an old biddy, yes. How did you know? :D

Na: Hard to say. The rest of the group generally doesn't speak up. I'm the only one who can't seem to keep her mouth shut. Big surprise there!

You'll be proud of me, Quiche: after several emails I think I did actually outfox him. Go me, eh? What does it matter that I lost an afternoon's writing when I won an email argument with a Diva? Wheee!

Tomorrow I shut off the modem, possibly dangle it out the window.

At 16:17 Blogger Jess said...

Marjorie: to be fair the guy in danger of being kicked out has been vaguely annoying, in that he won't hear criticism of his own work.

What is with cats exploring small, dark places?! Magic sounds like he is having fun anyway, love that they are all chirriping at each other. My old moggie, Poppy, only used to chirp at the birds. They were never fooled by her impressions. She also liked hiding in the airing cupboard, sleeping on the pile of freshly washed bedding & towels balanced precariously on top of the boiler. The number of times we'd go to dry our hands on a fresh towel and it would mew groggily in protest. Warm, half baked and sozzled cat - another great smell :o)

Another Thea Gilmore obsessive here. She is playing a boat and folk festival just down the road in Cheshire in the summer. I'm so excited.

My computer did the weird pixel thing just before the hard drive gave up the ghost, just saying BACK UP!

Hellie, what a delightful description! You'll have to tell us about Thea, I sure do wish I could see her, she was over here opening for someone this year, but alas, not near me.

Sent the boys out to play. After dressing them warmly. Mom or PA? My job is weird.

Right. Need to find a bouzouki. And some luggage.

Airline has positively said if they manage to find it they will certainly call but at this point it is simply too early to say for sure, tho they might find it at some point and then , yes they will call, but can't promise anything for sure........

Thinking about what Magic is going through makes me so sad.

How wonderful about the riding! It sounds like a truly awesome way to spend the winter - and, I guess, any other time of year ... I've never even thought about doing it before.

Um, Emily, Magic is having a FINE old time. He has a party at night, eats the trail of tuna, plays with the cat toys, and explores new caves.

If it weren't for the fact it will be harder to socialize him and that he pees on things, I would tell him to go for it.

Spicy Brains is yummy. :)
The sharp top note that I smell in the bottle disappears in less than an hour on me, maybe within the first 30 minutes. Then it reminded me of another scent, but I couldn't place it until right before bed. It reminds me of Tabu. Let me stress - it is not the same scent as Tabu; however, they do have a similar warmth/depth.

DH likes it, and both daughters want to wear it. DD1 doesn't care for it in the bottle, but does like it on me. She even thinks it's funny that it's called Spicy Brains, when she usually tells me to "stop!" when I go, "I smell your spicy brains." :)

Uh-oh.

I appear to have chased everyone away.

We interrupt this Spicy Brains report to bring you Mr. Peebles, the world's smallest cat.

All together now: AWWWWWWWW!

And now back to the sniffing.
